 EDGERTON, MO (KCTV) -
The Platte County Sheriff's Office is attempting to locate two young women who went missing from Edgerton, MO, Friday.

Britny Haarup, 19, and Ashley Key, 22, were last seen in Edgerton on Friday morning.

Saturday afternoon, a truck matching the description of the one they were believed to be in was found unoccupied along Clinton County Line Road, just west of U.S. Highway 169. The truck was found two to three miles southwest of Trimble, MO.

The Edgerton Police Department received a call of two young children that were left at home unattended Friday evening. Haarup, the mother of the children, and Key had been watching the young children. Both children are fine and in the care of their father, but the Edgerton Police Department has asked the Platte County Sheriff's Office for help in finding Haarup and Key.

The young women were believed to be in a white 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 series pickup truck with Missouri license 3WP-832. The truck has chrome wheels and a chrome brush guard and has the word "union" on the back.

Haarup is described as 5'3" and weighing about 130 pounds. Key is about 5'5" and weighs about 100 pounds.

Anyone with information regarding the location of either missing young women or the vehicle should contact the Platte County Sheriff's Office at 816-858-3521 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.

I wonder what happened tupelohoney?  I pray that they both will be found unharmed.  They are sisters, correct?  The last that they were seen was Friday morning? I wonder where they were going?

I wonder who took them? Infant left behind and toddler....now the truck looks like it's left in the country, or some isolated place. Sort of sounds like Denise Amber Lee's abduction.  Praying for them.

This sounds a little odd?  Maybe they left the kids alone to run out and do a quick drug deal, convenience store, something for kids?  But why both of them.  Did one go pick up the other from a bad situation?  Was someone at the house and forced them to drive off?  We are missing a whole bunch of facts I do believe!  I hope they are okay!  I would prefer a bad trip and ran off to what may have really happened.  Poor little kids need Mommy!

So, if THIS were the girls...then why would they just be wandering around from early Friday morning to Friday night...with the babies unattended and the truck ditched?  Did one of the girls take the truck and go and pick the other up and then ditched it...that makes NO sense whatsoever...I don't believe these were the girls that she saw.  The report states that the belongings were left behind, right?  Wouldn't that mean purses too?

Family members said the women would have never left the children alone. They also said they found blood inside the house, but sheriff's deputies aren't releasing any information about what kind of evidence they've found there.

The two women are sisters and they live together. Their family said Key had been running with a bad crowd recently and they believe someone abducted the young women Friday.

The police, for whatever reason, are not giving out much information.  Until this article, I hadn't seen or heard they are sisters.

The two women are sisters and they live together. Their family said Key had been running with a bad crowd recently and they believe someone abducted the young women Friday.
 ::snipping2::

The police, for whatever reason, are not giving out much information.  Until this article, I hadn't seen or heard they are sisters.
Oh Carp!  Blood was found in the house!  ::MonkeyShocked::  I hope there is some good forensic evidence in that truck!

Never a good sign that there was blood; however, should be interesting evidence that if there is blood in the home but not in the truck chances are the truck was driven to the location after the fact as a diversion. How many people purposely just leave babies in a crib?

Britney and Matt are NOT married as is being reported on social media sights, it appears...not that this accounts for anything.  Just correcting what is being said...they are engaged per his FB.  Plus their last names are different.

If I provide a link it will be to his FB...and if he is not involved...I don't think that I should.
::rhino::  I see there is a candlelight vigil being held tonight.

Edgerton Girls Missing Ashley Key and Britny Haarup - Kansas City News

 ::snipping2::
Britny Haarup is 19 years old, is 5'3" / 130, and Ashley Key is 22 years old and 5'5" 100. No further information has been released about the girls and their typical social lives. It is not uncommon for girls that age to pull an "all nighter" and drink themselves through one day and night (Friday) and keep partying on into Saturday. Although the discovery of the abandoned truck on the side of the road definitely raises a flag of foul play. The road that the girls' truck was found on today was a gravel / dirt road and the truck appeared to have been carefully pulled over to the side of the road and parked neatly off to the side of 200th street near 169 Highway and about 3 miles away from Trimble, Missouri. Police are searching for Britny Haarup and Ashley Key today in the surrounding areas near the abandoned truck.

What kind of reporting is that?  ::MonkeyNoNo::   ::MonkeyMad::

I am the father of these girls. There was NO partying involved. There were taken against their will and blood at the scene means atleast one of them was injured.

All I can say is no one deserves this. But you as their parent should have gotten Ashley help for her drug addiction years ago instead of her little sister doing it alone. I just feel really sad for their babies. I really hope the people that Ashley had been hanging out with didn't do this. This is truly sad! U girls are in my thoughts and prayers.

Blood in the home, children left alone, cell phones and purses left behind, truck abandoned ...this one will have a terrible ending, imo.

Authorities search for two missing Platte County sisters
Hunt is under way, but family and police fear they have become victims of violence.

Relatives of two missing Platte County sisters fear the worst.

After all, 19-year-old Britny Haarup never would have left her 6-month-old and 18-month-old daughters alone in a crib. Yet that is where Haarup’s fiancé found the youngsters when he got home about 4 p.m. Friday in Edgerton, Mo.

Haarup’s cellphone was there — along with her purse, her sister’s purse and the shoes her sister had been wearing.

Worse yet, blood soaked a comforter left on the couch, according to her father, Paul Haarup of Smithville.
 ::snipping2::

 ::snipping2::

After Meyers reported the women missing Friday, authorities began searching for a white 2002 Dodge Ram pickup truck that had been parked outside until about 9:30 a.m. Friday. The truck belongs to Meyers’ father, Jay Meyers, who lives within sight of his son’s house.

If the women vanished when the truck did, 18-month-old Aleah and 6-month-old Adilynn would have been alone in the crib for hours.
 ::snipping2::

 ::snipping2::
“We were hoping we would find it (the truck) moving, not standing still,” said Paul Haarup, who went through four tanks of gas looking.

A Platte County sheriff’s deputy spotted the truck about 11 a.m. parked in a shady area along a gravel stretch of 200th Street, about a quarter mile east of the Platte and Clay county line, or 1.5 miles west of U.S. 169.

Searchers from the Platte, Clay and Clinton county sheriff’s offices were joined by park rangers, Missouri Highway Patrol troopers, Kansas City police and agents from the Missouri Department of Conservation.

For hours, they searched a bean field to the south and a pasture and cornfields to the north. They called in the Kansas City police helicopter for a look from the air.

But they found no sign of the sisters, who attended school in Smithville before graduating from Park Hill South High School.

Investigators towed the truck to the Kansas City crime laboratory to check for evidence.

Kansas City crime lab crews spent part of Friday and Saturday inside Haarup’s one-story home on Perry Street. Crime scene tape marked the home as off limits to visitors.

Key, who has a 4-year-old daughter, had been through a rough year, her father said. He described her lifestyle as “colorful.”

She had reached out to her sister a week ago, asking to move in while getting back on her feet, he said. Now he fears someone from Key’s past abducted both of his girls.

He described Britny Haarup as a dedicated mother who was taking classes to become a registered nurse.

Alexis Sweeny, a friend of Key’s since third grade, described her as “really outgoing, funny, carefree.”

Jay lives close by and one picture from his FB shows the truck in the garage.  Maybe Britney borrowed it often.  He is active in the vigil and posting on his FB for people to be on the look out.

Police continue search for missing women, find truck abandoned

he women's father, Paul Haarup, spent his Saturday at the search site and begged for his daughters' safe return at a vigil in Edgerton that night.
"Wherever they're at, whoever's with them, whoever has them, just give them a phone, have them call us," said Paul Haarup. "Put an end to this."
Britny is a mother to two young girls. Aleah is 18 months old and Adilynn is six months old. Family members said that Ashley is a mother to a four-year-old girl.

Haarup's fiancee, Matt Meyers spoke with 41 Action News after the vigil. He said his daughters need their mother back home.
"She stays at home and plays with them all day. They love her to death," said Meyers. "She was so mad when Aleah said 'dada' first. Now we can't even get her to say it. It's always 'mama, mama, mama.'"

Family members said they do not know who could be responsible for the disappearances. However, they said Ashley had been involved with drugs and was running with a bad crowd.

"That's why she came to Britny and Matt's house. To get help, to get out of that lifestyle. She was very serious about getting help," said Cassandra Meyers, sister-in-law of Matt Meyers.

UPDATE
Authorities speaking with person of interest in case of missing sisters

Updated: Jul 15, 2012 12:35 PM EDT

EDGERTON, MO (KCTV) -
The Platte County Sheriff's Office is speaking with a person of interest in the case of the two missing sisters from Edgerton, MO.

Authorities have also executed two search warrants in the case of the two women, Britny Haarup, 19, and Ashley Key, 22, who have been missing since Friday morning.

Loved ones are now leaning on each other and on prayer to cope.

"Whoever has them, give them a phone, have them call us, put an end to this," the missing girls' father, Paul Haarup, said.
 ::snipping2::

 ::snipping2::
"The truck was gone, the girls were gone and Matt has some personal guns that had been missing as well. That is all he had to tell me, and I knew something was wrong at that point," the missing girls' mother, Taresa Haarup, said.

The family also says there was blood on the couch, and the girls left their purses, shoes and cell phones behind. However, deputies won't confirm that while the crime lab is still processing evidence.
 ::snipping2::

 ::snipping2::
nvestigators are not sure where to turn next. Their search of the pickup and surrounding field yielded no signs of foul play and no evidence of what happened next.

"We are going to follow up on some other leads, friends, acquaintances, people they've been in contact with," said Capt. Erik Holland with the Platte County Sheriff's Office.
 ::snipping2::

 ::snipping2::
"There is just too many things that took place yesterday that don't add up to anything other than an abduction," the missing girls' father said.

So now he is asking for the public's help to bring his girls home.

"Just look in the car next to you, look at the restaurants, look at the faces," he said. "They are mothers. They are humans. They are people. They are everybody's daughter."

Authorities talk to ‘person of interest’ about missing sisters

 ::snipping2::
The investigation of two missing sisters from Edgerton, Mo. has led authorities to a person of interest.

The Platte County Sheriff's Office said Sunday that it is talking to a "person of interest" in the disappearance of 19-year-old Britny Haarup and her 22-year-old sister Ashley Key. Two search warrants also were executed, the sheriff’s office said in a press release, but details of where authorities searched and for what they were looking were not available.

Haarup's father, Paul, said the family was on "pins and needle" as it awaits the results of the investigation, which has included sheriff's offices from Platte, Clay and Clinton counties as well as troopers from the Missouri Highway Patrol and the Kansas City Police Department.

Haarup said while family members are eager to get out information about the case, authorities are stressing to limit what's said publicly so the case isn't jeopardized.
 ::snipping2::

As an FYI - KCMO Police generally don't speak about cases and asking for the public's help seems not to be a genuine request, but rather a formality.  I am beginning to think that it's political maneuvering - if we don't talk about, then it didn't happen and converesly if we say it then it is so.

This story says Trimble which is relatively the same area as Edgerton.  Clinton County is south and slightly east.   Also to note that Joe Lauria is a great meteorologist, not a reporter, which makes this really breaking news.

This story says Trimble which is relatively the same area as Edgerton.  Clinton County is south and slightly east.   Also to note that Joe Lauria is a great meteorologist, not a reporter, which makes this really breaking news.

Oh no.  So so sad.

Yes, it is extremely sad.  KMBC said that an arrest had been made.  There is nothing yet on their website, but they are on scene with a satellite truck.

An arrest...wow...so much happening so fast.  I am so glad that an arrest has been made...just so sad for the loss of these beautiful girls.

I was completely wrong about Trimble and Clinton County.  I was thinking of the town of Clinton which is south and east.  I apologize for the error!

I only see five people booked into Platte County on Sunday...one female and four males.  None match up with friends on either FB.  But, wouldn't they be booked into Clinton County if the bodies were found there?  Clinton County does not have a roster.  Maybe they haven't been officially booked?  Or it is one of the five?

There were comments on different pages and article comments saying that they were taken because of snitching...just something I noticed.

Also, I scrolled further down on Ashley's page and saw this:  (There is a guy in Platte County jail with the same name)  Maybe this is who they (or she) may have told on?

Bodies of Ashley Key and Britny Haarup Found
July 16, 2012 12:11 AM EDT

The bodies of missing sisters Ashley Key and Britny Haarup were discovered in a field near Trimble, Missouri, this evening, and a suspect has been arrested. The search for the two missing women has lasted just over the weekend, bringing a quick end but bittersweet feelings. It was hopeful that the two would be found safely, but those dreams are dashed.So who is this suspect? Reports are not releasing the details of the person responsible for the disappearance and murders of the two sisters, but it's being speculated that it could be someone from Ashley's "colorful" past. Ashley Key had recently reached out to her sister for a place to live so she could get her life back on track, but it appears that all she did was put her sister in fatal danger.

 ::snipping2::

Still, it's interesting that sources are flat-out refusing to name the suspect in the case. The only other name that's been mentioned since the girl's vanished was Matt Meyers, the fiancé of Britny Haarup. He claimed to arrive home to find both women gone and his two children alone. There are also reports that there was blood on the couch. What kind of alibi does this young man have? Was he at work? Was he at a friend or family member's home? Does he have an alibi that removes him from any possibility of being connected to this crime? If there was blood on the couch, it's likely that a struggle ensued in the home, so could he at all had been involved? These are all valid questions, and until sources release the identity of the suspect in this case, the questions will remain valid.

A sad, but not unexpected conclusion to this case the way the story was developing.

Two bodies Found in Rural Field in Search for Missing Missouri Sisters Britny Haarup & Ashley Key … Suspect Under Arrest

http://scaredmonkeys.com/2012/07/16/two-bodies-found-in-rural-field-in-search-for-missing-missouri-sisters-britny-haarup-ashley-key-suspect-under-arrest/

Kind of peculiar that the name of the suspect who is under arrest has yet to be named. If that individual is the only one involved one wonders why if arrested, no name has been provided. I would presume arraignment would have to be pretty soon. The only thing i could think of is the authorities needed to follow procedure and make a positive ID of the sisters.

Man charged with beating, suffocating sisters
Clifford D. Miller charged with 2 counts of first-degree murder

UPDATED 12:00 PM CDT Jul 16, 2012

PLATTE CITY, Mo. - A man was charged Monday in the beating and suffocation deaths of two sisters from Edgerton, Mo., last week.

Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd said Clifford D. Miller, 31, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

Britny Haarup, 19, and Ashley Key, were last seen Friday morning. Their bodies were found Sunday near a tree line on a Clinton County farm.

During a news conference, Platte County Sheriff Richard Anderson said that Miller was picked up at his girlfriend's Parkville apartment.

Anderson said that during questioning, Miller told detectives that he was high on methamphetamines and went to Haarup's home in Edgerton at dawn with the intent of having sex with Haarup.

According to investigators, Miller said when he entered the house, he found Ashley Key asleep on couch, and that Key awoke and confronted him. Miller told detectives that he started beating her until she stopped moving and then smothered her with a pillow.

Miller then told detectives that he picked up an object and walked into Haarup's bedroom and hit her in the head. There was a brief struggle and then he said  smothered her, according to Anderson.

Investigators said Miller admitted smoking more meth and cleaning up the house before moving the bodies.

Miller is being held on $500,000 cash-only bail. If convicted, Miller could face life in prison. Zahnd said the case is being reviewed as to whether the state will seek the death penalty.

I was able to see a short portion of the press conference and it looked like their dad was standing with LE when they gave all the details of the injuries to the girls.  Also, according to radio news they aren't releasing the killers connection to the girls yet, only calling him an acquaintance.  It seems Ashley fought him with all she had.  So very very sad.

ospainter, thank you!  It is so odd that they didn't want to disclose that info earlier.

Your welcome.

It's odd to me also, doesn't make sense really, unless he didn't tell them exactly how he knew her in the beginning. dunno.

It's just a damn shame, not safe sleeping in your own house anymore. grrr

Mother mourns murdered Edgerton sisters
July 25, 2012

PLATTE COUNTY, MO (KCTV) -
The mother of two sisters killed in a double murder is focused on honoring the memory of her daughters and providing for their girls.
The two young mothers were reported missing earlier this month. After an intensive search, investigators found the bodies of Britny Haarup and Ashley Key in a field two days later.

Clifford Miller is charged with killing both Haarup and Key. Miller was schedule for a routine court appearance Tuesday, but Tareasa Haarup had nothing to say about him.

Tareasa Haarup now carries her daughters by her heart. Their ashes are in a necklace around her neck. And the fact that they are not coming back is only now beginning to hit her.
