"Seattle is Dying"

Seattle Is Dying. It's a harsh title. Someone on social media even called it a "hopeless" title. I'll admit to you that I wrestled with the name for some time. Too dramatic, I wondered? Too dark? In the end I went with it because I believe it to be true. I believe that Seattle is dying. Rotting from within.

This is so sad.  The police aren't allowed to fight crime and do their job.

Seattle was once an awesome place.  What happened?  This story is quite revealing about the homeless problem in Seattle and other urban areas.  High crime rates.  People out of control.

Where are the drugs coming from?  Do they come from south of the border? China?  Middle East?

'The more money we throw at the problems, the worse it gets.'  'Human beings living in filth and madness...'

'Families not feeling safe, protected...'

Is this the future of every community in America?  An ever increasing 'Zombie horde'?  Reduced quality of life for everyone?

Where are good people supposed to live?  Where is the refuge for good people?  Safe and drug free neighborhoods?

What is the  problem?  A few things from the film...decriminalize crime, broken system with no teeth.

Just my humble opinions, questions, and concerns.

Listening to the comments from locals is shocking.  One woman suggesting the problem is 100% due to drugs.  Another blames drugs and in rare incidents, mental illness.   People with violent criminal records are going free, ignored by the law enforcement and judicial community, going on to commit even greater crimes.  Why?

I wonder if he long term homeless have left.  The report suggests many new homeless are coming from California and elsewhere.  What happened to the local homeless population?  'Free for all, wild west, no laws, do whatever you want...'  'City council are idiots, ignoring solutions...'  'No consequences'

The tourist comments are revealing.

From the comments -

"When laws are not enforced, people lose respect for laws in general. We see this all over the western world."

"I grew up in Seattle and makes me sad Emeraldcity is dead and the politician surrounding Seattle needs to be fired and hire some people that care"

Is this the future of every community in America?  Epidemic of drugs?  Zombies that kill, destroy, and push others into poverty?

Just my humble opinions and questions.

The end of the program goes into great detail about a treatment program.  Where are the prevention programs?  Educating young people and people of all ages?  Keeping drugs off the street?  Penalties for those making drugs?  Bringing drugs over the boarder?   How long before the rest of America dies too?

Washington is one of those state that bans things like plastic straws and plastic bags.  For some reason, drugs are ok.  Liberal/Progressives talk about how climate change, oil, and human life is killing 'our' children.  What about yesterday's children?  The kind that are on drugs, mentally ill, in places like Seattle, San Franscisco, and other urban areas?  All cars have to have a back-up camera, because it 'may' save one life.  Why isn't there an amazing effort to stop the flow of drugs into the US?  Why aren't all politicians 'all in' and on board to build walls and step up enforcement?  Protect our borders and citizens?  The drugs also seem to come along with human trafficking, sexual slavery, and overall misery for everyone in the community.

Where is the government?  Military?  Border patrol?

Is this the latest Government sponsored genocide?  First the government  came for the Native Americans, they didn't come to help.  They brought the progressive sisters with them 'poverty, death, and destruction.'  Then, they came for the freed slaves and later black generations, they didn't come to help.  They brought the progressive sisters with them 'poverty, death, and destruction.'  Then, they came for the whites and other people who were 'woke', they didn't come to help.  They brought the progressive sisters with them 'poverty, death, and destruction.'

It has happened before and it will happen again.  They didn't come to help.  Why does it seem that drug cartels (prescription, recreation, legal, and illegal) run our government?

Just my humble opinions.

It all seems to be about profits.  Profits for drug cartels, likely the farmer is not living a high life.  Profits for the legal drug industry.  Profits for the alcohol industry.

Seattle isn't dying and please refrain from watching anything that is owned by Sinclair. Once you do the latter, you'll be able too understand the former.

I get my information from a variety of sources.  I don't know the difference between Sinclair or MSNBC.  There seems to be a lot of concern for Seattle's future.

Where is the will to identify problems and tackle them?  Where is the compassion for people who live in Seattle and just want to enjoy peace, quiet, and cleanliness?

I visited Seattle years ago.  There were lot of panhandlers and homeless people.  I did not feel threatened.  The streets were clean, coffee was plentiful, the city offered many attractions.  Not sure I would go today.

Where are the stories about solutions and making the city a better place to live and visit?

just my humble opinions.

I do not recall seeing homeless encampments when I was young.  This was before NAFTA.

The homeless I met later in life were people who lost everything in the Great Depression and never recovered and people with drug problems.  The generation of the Great Depression are mostly gone.  What about the lasting problem of alcohol, drug and substance abuse?

It seems like post NAFTA, job disappeared, communities were destroyed, and families were devastated.  Today there are complaints about overpriced housing,

Great amounts of money have been poured into the problem.  It seems like homelessness is increasing.  Housing prices are rising and the homeless are not able to find jobs.  On the other hand, hundreds of thousands of Americans can't find job, asylum seekers get job permits and homeless is not decreasing.

I think homelessness is big business.  More seems to be better.  Raise taxes, spend on 'affordable' housing, studies, workers.  Where are the jobs for the homeless?  Why isn't the drug problem being addressed?  Why does government continue to find drug smugglers and drugs that seemingly have no end?

Is there profit in ending homelessness?  I don't think so.  Is there profit in building and managing affordable housing?

Where are the solutions to ending homelessness?  I recall Seattle was a draw for homeless people due to the climate and friendly atmosphere.  What does society do with people who do not want to work  or contribute to 'our' shared prosperity?

If the problem of homelessness was solved, who would reap the profit?

Just my humble opinions and questions.
