Perhaps, but I think now the prosecution is going for a conviction of something specific, over what they can get right now. I think there's probably SO much evidence we don't know about, or so many thing still "in the works" that they may feel if they give themselves enough time, they can absolutely nail her to the wall. I'd rather they wait and do things slowly and deliberately and be SURE they can get her life in prison, no parole rather than be hasty and see her walk or get 20 years or something.
This is the case of the century for Florida, they absolutely can not screw this up in any way, shape, or form. They need to take their time.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A judge said at a hearing on Friday that it's too early to determine a trial date for Casey Anthony, who attended the hearing wearing a business suit.

Anthony, 22, remains jailed on first-degree murder charges in the death of her daughter, Caylee, who was 2 years old when she was reported missing in mid-July, a month after she was last seen. Caylee's remains were found last month in a wooded area near their east Orange County home.

Orange County Circuit Judge Stan Strickland heard several motions at the hearing, which lasted about 40 minutes.

Strickland said Anthony's defense team, led by Jose Baez, can have access to the wooded area where Caylee's remains were discovered. The private owner of the lot, who was not present at the hearing, has denied Baez and defense experts permission onto the property.

Strickland, however, said he would rule later Friday on whether the nonprofit Texas-based group EquuSearch has to hand over records, photos and videos it has pertaining to a search of the woods where Caylee's remains were found.

A motion to remove prosecutors from the case was denied. Strickland said the motion filed by the defense was "light on the facts" and called the issue a "Florida Bar matter." Local 6 News has confirmed that someone working for State Attorney Lawson Lamar sent paperwork about Baez to The Florida Bar, which investigated Baez for possible ethics violations. Baez was cleared of any wrongdoing, but he said the state is trying to interfere with his ability to represent Anthony. Baez wanted Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum to take over the case.

A trial date was not set by Strickland, who agreed with the state that it's too early in the process to determine that issue.

The next hearing in the Anthony case will be held in 45 to 60 days, Strickland said.

Anthony appeared in court Friday after being ordered to attend all hearings except scheduling and trial status hearings. She wore a gray business suit and had her hair pulled back. Prosecutors said earlier they were concerned that Anthony could later change her mind about not attending hearings and file an appeal on the issue. Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez, said his client's attendance at the hearings fuels a circus-like atmosphere that paints her in a negative light, thus hindering her ability to receive a fair trial.

Meanwhile, Brad Conway, the attorney for Anthony's parents, George and Cindy Anthony, said George Anthony could possibly be released from a hospital on Friday. George Anthony threatened to commit suicide last week.

My daughter bought the NE last night, and pointed this out to me this morning. Since I don't know how to scan anything, I'm just typing something about Kiomarie that I thought was interesting. One of their friends named Jessica, her hamster Sage died. "We put the hamster in a plastic, zip-lock bag and put that inside a paper bag." "On the paper bag, we drew five or six hearts, as signs of love, and wrote, "We will miss you, Sage," on it." They said there will be a status hearing to determine the trial date in late February or early March.

2. I think the prosecution believes that with some time, they can prove intent. Proving intent is KEY.
Don't know about you, but with her up for first degree murder, I'd rather they have that SOLID than have them rush and not be able to prove intent and premeditation. Otherwise, she'd be looking at a lesser charge and less prison time. NO ONE wants to see that happen, especially the state of Florida. Can you imagine the public reaction if they rushed the trial and she walked with a negligent homicide or freaking manslaughter charge??

Oh ... while that sickens me to think about ... I bet Jessica & Kio will be up front on the prosecution witness list!  Any jury hearing that has to convict ... she will go down.  You think we know everything in evidence?  No way, the damning evidence would be well hidden.  I know USA is different from Australia, but the damning evidence that will convict miss horseface is kept under tabs.  Yes, it is a media circus, something that never happens in Australian cases, and in a way that is sad.  The media make money, and yes, that is good, cos it gets Caylees story out there.  But, as much as we all speculate, all the info given to the media, you can bet your last dollar, LE holds the key, and that will be kept under tabs until the trial. 
I can read the defense theory from thousands of miles away, the acting dumb, dont be fooled by it all.  Except for Bozo, yes, he is dumb and stupid, but only as much as he wants you to all think.

SunnyinTX you asked in the last thread about Todd Black. TB said in a statement to Sean Krause that he had to maintain privacy and does and that he has had to do that before when acting as Michael Jackson's spokesperson during his trial. Well I have to say that after looking into it this would probably be very unlikely as MJ used the same spokesperson in the trial as he always has well at least from 2004 until 2007 with only a samll break which was after the trial anyway. That spokesperson was called "Raymone Bain of Raymone Bain and Davis, Bain & Associates. " so unless they also use fake company names as well he is at the very least lying.

Casey is a product of any defense lawyers game in court. They always do that and you can watch any news story or movie, tv show and if there is a court scene the defendant is usually made to look "professional", cleaned up or whatever needs to be. He knows this is a high profile case represented by a hispanic defense attorney so the pictures have to look good for all...including Univision network.  ::MonkeyCool::

I was joking about how the spokesperson for JB claims the media firm does not use their real names so I was just playing with the names.
Kevin Bacon the actor comment was referring to jokes people have used about him over the years of how people he works with are connected to other people and on. It is a Hollywood joke...just guess I am losing it since this case is going nowhere for awhile.

I watched on TruTV,  Didn't get to see the whole hearing from the beginning, but here's my take on Bozo...he's like a goof from SNL. 

There was a man sitting behind the prosecutors who kept shaking his head and chuckling when Bozo would talk.  And, what was it about when Strickland told Nejame that he wasn't laughing at him but with him.  (I think it was Nejame & not Conway).  Wonder if Bozo ever realizes how many of his colleagues (oh I hate to use that word in comparing them to him) laugh "at" him when he's in court.

The cameraman (person) had a closeup of the notes that KC was writing.  I hope that someone can interpret them from upside down.  Also, wonder if a lip reader can interpret what KC said to the he/she/it (with a bad blonde wig) attorney.

And, did anyone else pick-up on the cold looking like a devil in the eyes look that KC was throwing at Nejame while he was defending Tim's records on the volunteers to Strickland and talked about the volunteers looking for a dead Caylee.  My God, she could have melted Mt. Everest with that gaze of hate.  I was waiting to see if the veins in her temples would pop out, but they didn't.  Guess that's because she has so much hate from the heart. 

Did anyone notice the prosecution when Baez is talking about TES looking at him with a look like "what is this fool talking about?"  

It is very interesting to me to watch the visuals without sound and the body language.

My eyes are going, I didn't notice any gray hair but I did notice her jacket fit like crap. I also noticed that when she tossed her pen at JB's paper, he didn't take it and tried to act like it didn't happen. I am sure he will tell her not to be helpful or cutesy again. Crazy looks like George from the side or 3/4 profile. I also noticed that whem MN was at the podium talking about 4000 people looking for Caylee's remains, she was tearing up, not for Caylee we know that, just add your own reason and you are correct!

I am very curious what you think about, as far as what else is going on in this case.

Turbo, I go along with your logic.  I'm still on the child porn thing, although I don't think it is a direct connection to KC murdering Caylee.  There was something in the last document dump that I wish I would have copied or bookmarked...something that had to do with the computer and coming back to it at a later time.  Do you remember anything like that?

When MN was discussing TES and was mentioning "remains" several times, Baez wrote something on his legal pad for Casey to read and that's when she threw her pen down on his pad in a teasing sort of way - they do have a very close relationship, imo. 

Baez is so clumsy in court.  I also get the impression Mrs. Baden thinks he doesn't know when to sit down. LOL.

I was happy with todays outcome. This has already been discussed but did you see the TAMPON order on NG last night. I am glad that rumor is put to rest. My big question is why they broke protocol? When my daughter was a "guest" she was not allowed to wear regular clothes unless going before a jury. I also read a while back in the regs for the jail that it was a true statement? I wanted to see her in the blues. My daughter never went to trial or anything but she knew the rules.
I am also confused as to why the defense did not go to the scene when the state first turned it over to them? They sure where there after the judge told them they couldn't go until the state was done with it. Why wait til a month later then ask for access? By that time I am sure the owner of the property had every right to object to trespassing. I guess it is another ploy to make sure that it is know that they weren't allowed to go to the "pristine" site.
I am not a lawyer by any means but it is my understanding that the state, as well as defense, can delay receiving written results, like from the FBI for as long as they want so that it is not bound by discovery. Is this pretty much true? If this is the case the that is probably why we are not seeing a lot of stuff. Hope a smarter monkey can answer.

I knew i forgot something!! George taking pills and the whole suicide note saying that he took them and was starting to feel the effects is total BULLSHIP!!!! They said his writing got sloppier etc.. BS BS BS I have 2 daughters that are paramedics here in daytona and they would never allow a patient that is suspect of taking an overdose ride to the hospital with Chief Chitwood. They would have started treatment on him immediately, IV's and everything and transported him to Halifax with lights and sirens.. He may have taken his BP medication and drank a beer but that is it. I don't think he had any intention of doing himself in and I still say if he did he would have taken blame for the murder to finally have done something good for his family. Total ploy IMO.

Personally I would have stayed in the jail scrubs. She seemed more comfortable last time when they forced her into the court room at the last minute.

I love to watch her squirm in any way. I feel so bad for hating someone that much, but i do truly hate that woman. How can she sit there and smile and make little notes on her notepad while they are talking about her dead child? A little remorse would make me hate her less but she has NONE. Jose Baez comes across as the most incompetent moron every time he speaks! Still wondering if his wife left him during the midst of all of this since he still does not wear the ring he used to wear.

I am always surprised that Baez seems so clueless as to how to present his client in court- ie, not smiling, laughing, indulging in private little smiles between them- but as a serious, quiet,concerned mother.  Where did he get his degree?  Online?

thats exactly what i said. Im a nurse and as soon as they said that he had taken some of the medication and was drinking alcohol, i knew there was no way that was true since he was taken to the hospital in a police car. An ambulance would have had to have been dispatched if for no other reason than for legal ramifications. He had to have told them that he took nothing or how else would they have known that?

The parties involved have till noon to get him the information and he said he'd have an answer by the end of the day.

I think the officers on duty thought he was in good shape because of the walking out and transportation not in an ambulance... really speaks volumns. Plus..Chittwood said he was good and they talked about little things other than case so he could tell if he coherent during the ride. Thanks for posting about your daughters and their work so we have a good reference of info on that.

I keep checking the Orlando Sentinel site to see if there are comments from the body language expert (Susan Constantine) they noted was waiting for Casey's arrival this morning.  Nothing.  Am I doing something wrong ... or are they very very slow?

Sociopaths do not cry because they have remorse, but because they are caught and they feel that is the front to present to best portray what they need to get what they want. It is another example of them presenting what they guess is a normal reaction. They do not have normal reactions, to they have to take their cue from what they have seen others do that worked.

Casey was squirming quite a bit in her "outfit".  She was not comfortable in the jacket at all, and it looked to have been pulled from Cindy's clothset, not her own.  The prison pants looked a bit tight in the bum, and she seemed to be carrying a lot more weight in that region as well.  The jacket was tight around the midsection and bust causing her to fidget quite a bit.

All in all...I was amused!

OK, I just watched the hearing video.....now this is just my interpretation......at the very end Conway says to BOZO something with the word "mother" in the conversation....Bozo then says "I'll ask her"....Bozo then whispers in skanks ear and asks her yes or no, she says yes. Bozo then goes to tell Conway she has agreed......

Worse still, Baez looks at least as uncertain, hesitant, inexperienced & uneducated as a nervous 2nd year law student appearing in a court of law for the first time as a volunteer with their school’s legal clinic.

(Crying, “Not fair!” in the course of a court proceeding is proof that Baez is not only woefully uneducated and unprofessional, but so lacking in basic intelligence that ‘common sense’ can elude him - even the most casual TV viewers, deluged as they are in ‘Law & Order’ reruns and ads for Court TV, could probably surmise that this particular childhood refrain has no place
in a court of law!)

The fact that 8 years elapsed between the time Baez finished law school and the date he first wrote the bar exam is not the only curious aspect of his dubious standing as a lawyer.

The fact that he has misrepresented his legal experience by listing the outcomes of cases he was involved with AS A STUDENT with his school’s legal clinic (where a student’s work is closely supervised by review counsel, and often involves little more than putting on a suit and observing experienced lawyers ‘do their thing’) is beneath contempt.

If such deceit is not grounds for disbarment in Florida, it ought to be!

Alas, the sooner Baez can be marginalized in this case (for example, via court appointed counsel), the better.

Indeed, it would be a terrible miscarriage of justice to allow the monstrous Casey Anthony to avail herself of the patently foreseeable ‘ineffective counsel’ claims that lie in almost every move that Baez makes (e.g. hiring incompetent, fly-by-night PR ‘firm’ that undermines his client on CNN) or fails to make (e.g. motion for speedy trial).

Give it up Baez! Even lowly St. Thomas law school grads are smart enough to see right through YOU and that tacky ‘coat of arms’ you lifted from the internet! (Apparently, your grasp of IP law is even weaker than your ‘knowledge’ of criminal law & procedure!)

I have said from the very beginning it was another "script." NO ex-cop would ever take pills to commit suicide. All that bs about being at the ocean was for public sympathy and nothing else. He was staying right in the middle of "crack town." Not on the ocean. Not to mention ANYONE who truly plans suicide texts everyone about their plans. He KNEW they could find him and just sat there an waited to be found for the "script."  

He was never in any danger or he would have been transported by ambulance.

I am not sure what the ploy was in his fake suicide, except for public sympathy, but knowing that family in their distorted reality they had a reason.

Except it would not matter if George confessed, or for that matter if Cindy said she did.... remember, go back to the Grand Jury -- there were TWO indictments, one for Casey, and a second one for person or persons..... so George would go to jail, but Casey's trial would still go ahead.  LE has dotted the i's and crossed the t's on that one!  So, there will not be a sudden "I did it" from Cindy after Casey is convicted, because Cindy or George or whomever, would go to jail as well but not instead of Casey!

After listening to NG, she says they often allow the defendants to have some contact with family members when there is a break etc.

My brother who is an attorney here said she would not be entitled to an appeal on ineffective counsel in this state because he is a privately hired attorney. He said that only applies to court appointed attorneys because a client has the right to change counsel at any time if they do not feel their best interests are being represented.

I hope the CSI took 'after' pictures...and how in the hell can the defense expect to find anything relative to the crime?....the scene has been open to them and to the public for over a month now...in fact IIRC they were offered the crime scene shortly...within hours...of the crime scene being released and they didn't want it then....I think they are going to try to plant something..everyone involves needs to be VERY CAREFUL...IMO they are all in the gun sites of the defense...Jesse, Ricardo, Tony......and more....

I was just thinking as I watched Nejame, what a strong example of differing ability between him and Baez.  Nejame was prepared, had an entire folder of documents, and Baez had one little file folder with about 6 papers and he could not even seem to find the one he wanted in that.  Nejame had each marked and pulled them out effortlessly to present to the judge.  Nejame walked to the podium and Baez just stayed at the defense table.  Just a total difference in professionalism.

That is exactly why I believe that Strickland ordered her to apear from now on.  I do not think the apeal would be due to insufficient counsil, but maybe having been mislead by counsil?  Is that possible? 
Strickland sees what an idiot Baez is and realizes that he is in way over his head.  Now Strickland is hoping that Casey will see that, after all according to the law she has the right to sufficient counsil, however I believe Baez does suffice for this piece of sh!t sorry excuse of human existance we call Casey.

I agree 100%.  At the beginning Baez handed Casey a pen and pad of paper, I assume for note taking to keep her hands busy and stop her from fidgetting as well as to make her look interested in the case rather than that vacant stare she is so good at.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Attorney Jose Baez said Friday he will file a motion to move Casey Anthony’s trial to another city, even as prosecutors said it could be later this year before the case is ready.

Baez made his comments at the end of hearing on several motions on Friday morning.

“It’s too far out in front of us,” Circuit Court Judge Stan Strickland said during the discussion about a change of venue, but added that he would set a hearing once Baez files his motion.

Anthony arrived in court in a gray suit, a contrast to recent times when she arrived in jail garb. Before the hearing began, she smiled and motioned to several people, but mostly sat without emotion. (Images From Court)

Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of her daughter, Caylee Marie, whose remains were found in east Orange County last month.

The case has generated widespread local and national media coverage, which Baez has said could make it difficult to find an unbiased jury. He said he plans to file for the change of venue soon, which could move the case to another city in Florida.

During the hearing, prosecutor Linda Drane-Burdick said the case might not be ready for trial until later this year. Earlier, the case was set for trial this month, and then changed to March.

Drane-Burdick said the time frame made the discussion of a change of venue premature, but Baez disagreed.

Strickland ruled on other motions on Friday, including denying a defense motion to remove prosecutors from the case.

He did agree to give the defense access to the woods where Caylee’s remains were found, but he put off a defense motion to get evidence from Texas EquuSearch, the group that searched several locations for Caylee.

Strickland said he would rule on that motion later Friday.

Caylee Appears Again On Cover Of People

This Friday's issue of People Magazine features a cover story titled "Caylee's Family Secrets."

The article, written by Steve Helling, Bill Hewitt and Amy Green, delves into issues within the Anthony family.

The article addresses alleged marital issues between Casey Anthony's parents, George and Cindy Anthony, which go back several years, before Caylee went missing. It also discusses the strained relationship between Casey Anthony and her parents, the connection between the Anthony family home and the items found with Caylee's remains and George Anthony's suicide scare.

The author promises a shocking new twist and new information from a law enforcement source.

Here is an excerpt from the article: "It may also turn out that the items found with Caylee that can be linked to the Anthony home, such as a blanket and a toy horse, undercut Casey's contention that she dropped her daughter off with a babysitter, then went a month while the child was supposedly missing before authorities were notified."

"It just means that whoever did it would have had access to the home. That makes you wonder about a nanny who would have had to enter the home many different times to get that to happen and that's why the police feel that they have the right person in custody," Helling said.

I also wondered if he didn't deliberately mis-pronounce NM's surname at one point.  It was shortly before I got the impression Mrs. Baden thought he should cease talking - Judge Strickland wanted to get the show on the road and Baez just insists on having his way, imo.

That is a good point. He may want her to see how stupid the man is rather than Baez coming into the jail and telling her made up stories of how he was so great in court.

i wish theyd double check what they write. she had a jacket on over her prison scrubs. thats allowed for everyone, theres been plenty of defendants with sweaters on over their scrubs in the past.

Casey Anthony's look was big news on noon newscasts Friday.

"Back in court and dressed to impress," WFTV-Channel 9 anchor Vanessa Echols said.

"Casey Anthony has a whole new look now," WFTV's Kathi Belich said.

"Casey Anthony traded in her jail jumpsuit for a blazer and pants this morning," WKMG-Channel 6's Jessica D'Onofrio said. "Sitting with her hair pulled back in a bun, she sat quietly during a court hearing for her murder trial."

WESH-Channel 2's Amanda Ober said Jose Baez wouldn't comment on client Anthony's mood. Ober described Anthony's "noticeably different appearance," but Baez wasn't highlighting that change.

"What you saw today is Casey," Baez said. "I don't know what you mean by different, maybe the clothing was different. But she's the same person." 

What did you think about her appearance?


WKMG consulted a body-language expert, who saw a changed Anthony. "She seemed to be very depressed, there's a lot of sadness, lots of anxiety," Susan Constantine said. "I saw her take a lot of deep sighs. ... She seemed to be in very, very deep thought."

WKMG's Mike DeForest quoted Baez as saying there's been too much attention to Anthony's appearance. DeForest highlighted contradictory statements by Baez and his public-relations person, Todd Black. Baez said there was no strategy to Anthony's appearance, yet Black said her look was crucial. Why? The defense might appeal the case because Anthony had been seen in court in shackles and a jail uniform, DeForest said.

"We don't know what to think about what the defense is saying on this," DeForest said.


That's a line to remember.

Beyond appearances, Baez said he would file a change-of-venue motion soon.

And when might the trial begin? WESH's Bob Kealing said the two sides hope to go to trial later this year. It could be a year or more before the case can go before a jury, WFTV anchor Barbara West said.

In court, Judge Stan Strickland denied a defense motion to kick prosecutors off the case but granted a defense request to visit the place where Caylee's remains were found.

I absolutely, positively agree with you.  Had he ingested anything suspicious, he would have had immediate medical attention involving EMTs, ambulance, emergency room, the whole nine yards.  The fact that he rode with the chief in the chief's unmarked car and according to the chief they chatted along the way, indicates to me he was in no danger whatsoever from taking any medication.  Yep---Total BS. Not that I blame him from wanting to get away from Cindy.  As he said earlier, you can't shut her up even by placing your hand over her mouth.

I thought it was humerous that Conway announced on Monday that George had "Regained his will to live."  That was fast. But since he is going to be transferred to a hospital nearer home today means he must have lost the will again.

I dont know, I guess that would depend on what shape he is in.  I was in therapy for three years following 5 car head on wreck and of course could come and go as I pleased on an out patient basis, but the girls who were there on suicide watch wore scrubs and were chained together!!!!

I agree with the notion that treatment would have begun immediately if in fact GA had taken anything. Now, here I go speculating.....The news comes out that clothes found with Caylee's body were a shirt(no color mentioned) and white shorts. Now, if in fact the shirt is BLUE, then those clothes are most likely the shirt and shorts she was wearing at the nursing home and she most likely died while wearing them. GA's story about what she was wearing on June 16 would be proven to be a lie. Just a bit embarrassing for ole GA. And how about the request for immunity? I'm thinking the color of the shirt found at the site was intentionally omitted and I'm impatiently waiting to find out just what color it was! There doesn't seem to be much mention of clothes since GA's suicide episode.........

N2, I never believed that George saw Casey and Caylee on the 16th.  There were too many minute details about what they were wearing, backpacks, etc.  I know I wouldn't have remembered what they wore after a month and in fact, neither did he IMO.  I believe that Casey took Caylee and stormed out of the house on the night of the 15th, stuck around the neighborhood, hence the cellphone pings, and killed her that night.  I know what a horrible thought it is, but I believe she killed her by putting the duct tape over her mouth and nose and suffocated her. 

And although it didn't look like it in my earlier post above, I do know how to spell "humorous."

DAYTONA BEACH -- The motel where George Anthony was found last week is now turning into a bit of a tourist attraction.

It has gotten national attention in the latest issue of People magazine.

As News 13's Saul Saenz found out, some people are calling the motel, or simply showing up, wanting to stay in the same room.

The issue of People magazine hitting stores on Friday has a picture of the Hawaii Motel, where Anthony stayed in room 106 on Feb. 23, trying to find some time alone to sort out his thoughts. While he was there, Daytona Beach police said he sent text messages to his family saying he didn't want to live. It was also reported that he may have started a suicide note.

He was taken to Halifax Regional Medical Center where he remains on psychological evaluation under the Baker Act.

The hotel owner said Anthony brought with him a blanket and a pillow. The owner said he has received a number of inquiries from people wanting to stay in the same room George Anthony rented.

The owner said that no member of the Anthony family has called to retrieve the blanket and pillow.

The motel's owner said he had issues with People calling his business a "seedy motel."

He said he has not increased the price of his rooms because of the increased interest.

N2, I never believed that George saw Casey and Caylee on the 16th.  There were too many minute details about what they were wearing, backpacks, etc.  I know I wouldn't have remembered what they wore after a month and in fact, neither did he IMO.  I believe that Casey took Caylee and stormed out of the house on the night of the 15th, stuck around the neighborhood, hence the cellphone pings, and killed her that night.  I know what a horrible thought it is, but I believe she killed her by putting the duct tape over her mouth and nose and suffocated her. 

And although it didn't look like it in my earlier post above, I do know how to spell "humorous."

Spokesman for Casey Anthony's attorney defends 'professional name'

The spokesman for Casey Anthony's defense team just issued a statement about using what he calls his "professional name."

The email from the person who calls himself Todd Black is in response to an article in the Orlando Sentinel about his recent admission that Todd Black is not his real name.

The person has not provided his real name.

The person told the Orlando Sentinel this week that his last name is an "abbreviated" form he has used professionally in the past. It is unusual because spokespeople typically use their real names.

"In what semester did they teach that gossip and rumor has any place in legitimate and ethical journalism? When the media has a serious case to cover, instead of digging in search of any lies and distortions by law enforcement, like frogs prodded to jump - the media has actually used orchestrated leaks to promote their lies and distortions. Rather than working to report on issues that truly matter in a criminal case, the media attempts to assassinate the GOOD AND HONORABLE character of Casey Anthony's lead defense attorney, Jose Baez. In all these months of Tabloid Tramps slinging mud at Mr. Baez, not a single thing has been proven against him. And when the prosecution's whiny complaint gets thrown out by the Florida Bar - the media then tries to attack the messenger by ignorantly suggesting that a professional name is supposedly a wrong thing to do. Friday morning in court (hearing images | unedited video), Casey's legal team won the right to inspect the site where Caylee's remains were found (read search scene motion), but lost the battle to get the prosecutors kicked off the case (read Baez motion to recuse).

Eyewitness News also learned it could be a year or more before the case even goes before a jury.

Judge Stan Strickland gave very little time to the defense motion to get prosecutors off the case, filed by Casey's attorney, Jose Baez, over a Florida Bar complaint that was made against Baez's public relations firm by the State Attorney's Office in October. The judge said it's a nonissue at this time.

"These three aren't involved. I don't know that this affects us. And that's it for that," Judge Strickland said.

Judge Strickland denied the defense request to kick the three prosecutors off the case. His ruling came after the defense made an impassioned argument that the State Attorney's Office was trying to put Jose Baez at a disadvantage by painting him in a bad light.

"Your Honor has an obligation to make sure there wasn't a motivation to try to hurt the representation of Mr. Baez or Miss Anthony. Your honor needs to know, if even not us," defense attorney Linda Kenney-Baden argued.

Judge Strickland agreed that the three prosecutors on the case were not among any of the other 190 prosecutors in Orange County who might have lodged the complaint against Baez's PR firm. In a news release distributed by Press Corp Media in mid-October, Baez's PR firm called Casey's indictment a political move by State Attorney Lawson Lamar, who was running for reelection at that time.

"If they are suggesting that a Bar complaint is embarrassing to Mr. Baez or time consuming or requires him to hire a lawyer or to take other action, that inures to him not to Miss Anthony," prosecutor Linda Drain argued.

The judge said he will help Baez gain access to the private property where Caylee's remains were found, but the judge has not decided whether to force EquuSearch to hand over its records concerning its Caylee searches (read State's response to Baez EquuSearch motion).

An attorney for the search group, Mark NeJame, called the request a "fishing expedition" and told the judge he didn't have jurisdiction to issue a subpoena for the records because the search group was based in Texas, not Florida. None of the volunteer searchers were in the exact spot where Caylee's remains were found, NeJame said.

The judge was expected to rule on the request by late Friday.

"I think you guys are paying so much attention to it, it really goes back to my objections. It's irrelevant about what she's wearing, what her nails look like, and it has nothing to do with her guilt or innocence," Baez said after the hearing.

Casey's look Friday is a far cry from the last time we saw her in court, clad in a jail jumpsuit. WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer told Eyewitness News it's all about public perception and trying to humanize a woman charged with killing her own daughter.

While in court Friday, there was talk about a change of venue for the trial. Baez spoke with reporters about when he might file that motion.

"I anticipate it being soon, because we feel our client is innocent and we want to have her day in court. She wants to have her day in court. I know that's hard for everyone to believe, but she is innocent," Baez said after the hearing.

As for when the trial could be scheduled, prosecutor Linda Drain suggested it won't be anytime soon.

"I don't expect this to be ready for trial until later this year, hopefully," Drain said.

No trial date was set, but Judge Strickland said a status hearing may be set for the end of February or early March.

Baez didn't want Casey to have to show up Friday morning for the hearing (read defense's motion), but late Thursday afternoon Judge Stan Strickland ruled otherwise.

"Being duly advised in the premises, the defendant's Notice of Objection is overruled, and the defendant will be required to appear at each and every court hearing with the exception of those matters previously noted," Judge Stan Strickland wrote in an order issued Thursday afternoon (read order).

Eyewitness News legal analyst Bill Sheaffer said he believes the judge wants Casey present in court so she doesn't later say she was deprived of her due process rights.


"TODD BLACK" WAS MADE UP NAME

The mystery PR man, who triggered a Florida Bar investigation into Casey's attorney Jose Baez has admitted Todd Black isn't his real name.

Eyewitness News first questioned Black's identity last August, when no information could be found about his company, his former clients or colleagues.

The spokesman admitted to the Orlando Sentinel, there is no Todd Black, but he would not say what his real name is.

JMO, but I thought Casey looked creepy today.  To me, it seemed that it helped her cause more to be all chained up (i.e.  we hear her chains coming before we see her enter the court), she's so small (5'2" I believe?) that I actually could see the potential jury feeling pity for her all chained up...this little short small girl.  I'm 5'9" so I can imagine myself looking more guilty because i'm taller than most women...or maybe I'm just looking too deeply into this. However, I think she looked frumpy and evil today in court and I did not feel sorry for her nor could I in any way relate to her more sitting there today in plain clothes, I say cover her in chains! ::MonkeyDance::

Random thoughts:

KC had on a very ill-fitting jacket...looked uncomfortable (probably purchased by someone on the defense team) and jail-house pants, which are bulky and make her look more puffy that she really is.

Baez just cannot put together a coherent sentence.  It's almost painful to listen to him try to explain something to the judge.  He'll never make it through a trial.  Another defense team member will have to carry the burden of prensenting the defense strategy.

Really glad Cindy did not show up.  KC seemed nervous....picking at her hands and jacket.

Stunning how unprepared the defense AND the prosecution are to answer a simple question from the judge about timing for the trial.  Judge wanted a "status update" in 30-45 days and prosecution wanted it pushed to at least 60 days.   

Baez made scarastic remark about getting all his information from reporters instead of from LE; however, there was nothing in my opinion that was really requested from Baez to really get the information quicker.

Wow...defense won the motion to see the property where the remains were found...what on earth do they think they're going to find there?  The place was cleaned out by LE weeks ago.  Defense could have seen the lay of the land, taken pictures, etc. from the street.

From the initial PCM press release, it was clear that something was not right with Press Corps Media and Todd Black. Anyone that has ever sent a business letter knows that the appearance and grammar of your correspondence sets the tone for how you and/or your company are perceived. A letter represents you and your business, so it should be pristine and error free. Press Corps Media’s first press release made it look like a second grader had sneaked into Dad’s office and played grown-up with the fax machine. There were three additional press releases which maligned the press, as well as State Attorney, Lawson Lamar. As a result, Bar Association complaints were filed against Jose Baez.

Mr. Black has now informed the Orlando Sentinel that his real name is not Todd Black, but he will not divulge what it is. Mr. Black has been accused of being Gil Cabot in the past because of Press Corps Media’s connection to Arrested Media which is a company that Mr. Cabot works for. In the response of November 21, 2008 to the Bar Association, Timothy Chinaris, the attorney for Baez, stated that Press Corps Media

    “…was retained by a family, in Connecticut, after they saw media coverage that disturbed them about a case Mr. Baez is handling…”

    We were approached by that family, offering to donate the cost of our services (for the life of the case) to assist Ms. Anthony. We had an obligation to contact Mr. Baez, and advise him of our intentions with regard to media, which we will be doing with or without his help.

WHAT? LOL This is akin to not getting hired for a job, but you really want to work there, and you just show up one fine Monday morning and pick out an office and start working. If Jose Baez didn’t hire Press Corps Media and Casey Anthony didn’t hire Press Corps Media, then in all reality they have no legal ties or contractual agreement with either of them and would have no right issuing press releases for them. This is the craziest thing I have ever heard of. My hunch is that the family from Connecticut is really a journalist that lives in Connecticut who may have an exclusive story rights deal with Baez and Casey Anthony. Perhaps Press Corps Media is the middleman. That would explain why Todd Gilbert Black Cabot is involved and wasn’t canned when he said on television that Caylee was dead. Isn’t Geraldo from Connecticut? Aren’t he and Jose cozy? This is opinion, mind you. It’s just food for thought as anything is possible with this case and some of its players.

I was surprised at that going through. I guess the state didn't feel like arguing. Even if they think they can find something else out there it won't fly. That place has been contaminated in the last 6 weeks. They have pictures of the scene and that should do...they are just grandstanding not liking that the property owner hasn't responded to the request.

i like the way the cops immediatly slim-jimmed his car to get what they could. it clearly was act, as some monkeys have said, or george was feeling really depressed & contemplating suicide and this was his cry and a way to get away from the nuts in his family.  i've been depressed and can relate to georges emotional state so tend to cut him slack here.

CASEY'S APPEARANCE :  I wonder if that jacket is one that she used to own, because it seems so tight and she clearly has put on weight.  I recall Cindy saying in an interview that Casey was about 5 foot 1 inch, which is very small.  The gray really washed her out and she looked quite pale with no make up.  Her hair also needed fresh color.  In short, this was not the sassy, strutting Casey that we have seen before, but she still had a hint of the smirk and acted as if she knew a secret that she was not telling and that she still has little idea how dire her circumstances really are.

Ohhh.....sounds very defensive. Doesn't this person know they aren't fooling anyone and will be found out..this is a national story. You don't threaten the media because "they will find you."

Even thought they would like to point the finger at prosecutors office in turning him in if they had proof they would have had it in court. Baden told the judge that JB's attorney found out it was their office but of course it was anonymous and he was on a plane from AL as court was happening. Come on...today's court date was set for days...if they could prove that he would have been there since the motion to recuse was being handled today.

I read the people article, and it seems clear that George had not ingested any pills before he was admitted.  I assume he wrote that he had taken pills in the letter because that is what he intended to do.  We cannot know if he really would have followed through with that threat.

I'll be so glad when Baez quits coming up with discovery requests. I am so weary of my own compulsion to watch this train wreck. The moment Baez stops requesting discovery, the trial will commence; and he can't request anything incriminating because then the world will see it before the trial. Please let him be running out of cockeyed stalling techniques.

Since George had his own blanket and pillow, pictures and lots of meds I have to feel he knew when he left the house that morning that this was his intention.  I also have wondered if maybe he confessed some undisclosed info to LE at any point in time. 

I can't help thinking about Drew Peterson's brother who unknowingly at the time helped Drew, in the Stacy Peterson case.  He then went home had a drink, took some pills and called a friend.  From the hospitol he was placed in protective custody. 

I keep wondering if GA is also in the same position now.  He may not have helped in this..but I think he knows alot more then he has said previously.  I also think he out and out lied aboout the 16th, seeing them , etc.  The last doc dump supports the fact that he and Cindy gave two different accounts of which backpack was in the car..GA said the white backpack with the monkees.  Cindy said she had removed the backpack to clean it out and the one she gave them was the one in the car..which was not white.  Someone is lying here.

I bet Georges Doctor advised him to stay away from Cindy and extended his stay at a facility for this reason alone.  She will be the death of him, with her nit picking whinning ways in fantasy land.  I hate that b, even if she is innocent, she destroyed and gave wrong evidence, how do you do that?  Choose one, the obviously evil one, over the sweet little innocent?  If I were George I could not stand to be around someone so blatantly ignoring the guilt of Casey, family or otherwise, baby killing is not something one can take. 

And I believe w/the first whiff of that car George knew in his heart what was done. Especially after listening to his interviews with police.
 

A side note about George - he probably just needed to sneak away from Cindy to get a alcohol buzz on, she probably is so neurotic she wouldn't even let him have beer.  Sometimes alcohol is good for medicinal purposes.  I say cry for help for more than anything and a way to get out of that house.

Today's updates:

4 p.m. Orange Circuit Court Judge Stan Strickland denied Casey Anthony's defense team's request for records from Texas EquuSearch, a volunteer group that helped look for Caylee Marie.

He issued the two-page order this afternoon after a morning hearing on the issue. Strickland wrote that the court does not have jurisdiction to order a subpoena as requested.

He also pointed out how the defense failed to show how the witnesses are important and didn't provide enough evidence to prove the group was used as an agent of the state by working with and taking money from the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Wasn't much more--nothing we didn't know except Conway admitting, finally, that George and Cindy just don't know if Casey is Guilty.  Had the emails from Cindy's brother Rick and Cindy's replies--nonsense we now know about the proof they have that Caylee was alive.  Cindy and Casey's difficult relationship and Cindy grabbing her by the throat and Lee separating them.  The most interesting was the confirmation by George that he hadn't taken anything, which many of us always thought to be the case.  Not much new.

Zenaida's Attorney Submits Questions For Casey Anthony

ORANGE COUNTY, -- It seems everyone has questions for Casey Anthony, but Zenaida Gonzalez's lawyers will get answers. Eyewitness News obtained a list of questions (read the questions) Casey Anthony will have to answer in a civil suit filed by a woman with the same name as Caylee's so-called nanny.

Zenaida Gonzalez is hoping the list of questions will shed some light on how Casey Anthony came up with the name Zenaida Gonzalez. Zenaida believes Casey saw her name on a registration card at an apartment complex and then used her as an alibi.

Casey Anthony will have to provide a written response to the list of questions, ranging from "State you name" to "Were you involved with the death of Caley (sic)?"

"If there is information that she can share and shed light on who caused the death of this child, and it's not our client, than that certainly clears our client's name," Gonzalez's attorney, Keith Mitnik, told Eyewitness News.

Zenaida Gonzalez is suing Casey Anthony for defamation of character. Casey told authorities Caylee's nanny, Zenaida Gonzalez, kidnapped her daughter.

The Zenaida Gonzalez who is suing Casey is from Osceola County and happened to have her information on file at the apartment complex where Casey said she left the child.

Other questions included in the "Notice Of Service Of Interrogatories" ask Casey to describe the babysitter and how much she paid her and "Do you know anybody who has worked at Sawgrass Apartments or lived there?"

"We're tunneling in to find any connections Casey Anthony, on any connection, to see if she could have gotten our clients name at Sawgrass. We don't know, but that seems to be an area we need to investigate," Mitnik said.

Casey's attorney, Jose Baez, did not want his clients to answer any questions because he's afraid she may say something incriminating, but a judge ruled she had to respond to a written deposition. Gonzalez's attorneys, John Morgan and Keith Mitnik, think she may not answer willingly and a judge may have to get involved.

"If you want out of this lawsuit, answer these questions and help us clear our client's name," Mitnik said.

Casey has 30 days to respond. George and Cindy's depositions in the civil suit are set for February 26 and Lee's deposition is set for February 27.

Casey Anthony's look was big news on noon newscasts Friday.

"Back in court and dressed to impress," WFTV-Channel 9 anchor Vanessa Echols said.

"Casey Anthony has a whole new look now," WFTV's Kathi Belich said.

"Casey Anthony traded in her jail jumpsuit for a blazer and pants this morning," WKMG-Channel 6's Jessica D'Onofrio said. "Sitting with her hair pulled back in a bun, she sat quietly during a court hearing for her murder trial."

WESH-Channel 2's Amanda Ober said Jose Baez wouldn't comment on client Anthony's mood. Ober described Anthony's "noticeably different appearance," but Baez wasn't highlighting that change.

"What you saw today is Casey," Baez said. "I don't know what you mean by different, maybe the clothing was different. But she's the same person."

WKMG consulted a body-language expert, who saw a changed Anthony. "She seemed to be very depressed, there's a lot of sadness, lots of anxiety," Susan Constantine said. "I saw her take a lot of deep sighs. ... She seemed to be in very, very deep thought."

Casey Anthony is charged with daughter Caylee's murder.

WKMG's Mike DeForest quoted Baez as saying there's been too much attention to Anthony's appearance. DeForest highlighted contradictory statements by Baez and his public-relations person, Todd Black. Baez said there was no strategy to Anthony's appearance, yet Black said her look was crucial. Why? The defense might appeal the case because Anthony had been seen in court in shackles and a jail uniform, DeForest said.

"We don't know what to think about what the defense is saying on this," DeForest said.


That's a line to remember.

Beyond appearances, Baez said he would file a change-of-venue motion soon.

And when might the trial begin? WESH's Bob Kealing said the two sides hope to go to trial later this year. It could be a year or more before the case can go before a jury, WFTV anchor Barbara West said.

In court, Judge Stan Strickland denied a defense motion to kick prosecutors off the case but granted a defense request to visit the place where Caylee's remains were found.

Evening monkeys !

Channel 6 just reported that LE had to remove contraband from Casey's clothing before she was allowed to put them on.  In the clothing that Baez brought to her at the jail, LE found a small white rubber bracelet, similar to the ones that Cindy and George were selling, with supporting words about Caylee Marie Anthony on it, tucked into the white socks that she was seen wearing in court.  The bracelet was confiscated before she was allowed to put the clothing on.  Channel 6 is unsure if Baez was the one to tuck the bracelet in there, or if it came from her family.

That's true except he was missing from 8:30 AM until the police were called at 10:30 PM and he was not found until 2:00 AM. He had hours and hours to do away with himself. Frankly, if I were married to someone like Cindy, I'd do just about anything to get away for a while and get some peace and quiet which is what I think he did.  Now I think when the subject of releasing him comes up he tells them he wants to be released so he can kill himself.  No doctor wants to be sued for malpractice in the unlikely event he should commit suicide, so they say "OK, George, you can stay,"

4:00 p.m. - Late Friday afternoon, Judge Stan Strickland denied Casey Anthony's attorney's request to subpoena the records of Texas EquuSearch.

Mr. Morgan's interrogatories have the whole case in a nutshell !   Her wings are pinned to the wall. 

Today's  Sentinel updates:

5 p.m. George Anthony remains hospitalized today in Daytona Beach, said his attorney Brad Conway. Anthony is choosing to stay in the hospital while Conway tries to find a treatment center closer to home.

Conway also said the family is still waiting for the defense team to release Caylee's remains before memorial plans are made. Her remains could possibly be turned over to the family as early as next week.

I don't believe it can be done. I have been researching other lawsuits and non profits and there has never been a successful lawsuit against a non profit in Florida that I can find. The court has always upheld them as being only purveyors of volunteers which do not come under court jurisdiction.  

Not saying I haven't missed one, but if there has been I can't find it.
