I followed the links and it does list ATA as a sponsor. But I believe it is a different 'ATA'

"Africa Travel Association (ATA) is the premier international travel industry trade association, promoting tourism to the African continent and intra-Africa travel and partnership since 1975."

I will try to keep my eyes open for events in this area, though.

I've been traveling away from home a lot -- haven't been able to stay current on local events :(

But whenever I'm home -- I scrutinize faces everywhere I go in case I get the pleasure of running into Deepak or Freddy -- or anyone else you all think is in Miami

(One day I'll share about the day I thought I saw Steve Cohen in a B of A. He was too short to be Cohen, though     I don't go near that bank anymore. I think they have a poster of me     )

Sharon - yes, I knew the Miami show listed a different ATA, that's why I specified Aruba Tourism Authority.  Also, the Miami show may not be open to the public anyway.  The Caribbean Tourism Organization is an affiliate of the Aruba Tourism Authority but who knows if there will even be an Aruba booth?

I will see if I can find out anything through any of my cruise line contacts. If there's an opportunity to sell a cabin, they are usually involved.

But I agree with it may not be open to the public. If it's the venue I'm thinking of, they usually hold 'open to the trade' shows. I'll have to research.

Neither Aruba nor ATA  listed as a particpant, klaas. Should I be looking for a different organization name?

But it appears there are times this will be open to the public (if we find an Aruba booth):

Show Hours
Saturday April 28
8:30am - 9:30am | Trade Breakfast
9:30am - 11:00am | Expo Open to Trade Only
11:00am - 7:00pm | Expo Open to Public

Sunday April 29th
11:00am - 5:00pm | Expo Open to Public

Now let me follow the link to the 'sister show' in Ft Lauderdale.

Link to sister show in Ft lauderdale. No participants listed yet -- show not until November.

ATA is African Tourist Assoc.

The only possibility for an Aruban presence would be CTO. I'll check back from time to time to see when they list exhibitors.

I'll keep looking. We have so many conventions and shows down here.

Do we have any monkeys in the Orlando area??? That area is another big draw for all types of conventions.

Some tips from Justicefornatalee:

If you are going to stand up for Natalee at other venues,
here are a few general suggestions:

1) Have a permit and apply early. Richard can advise you on this step.

2) Have one big professionally made sign that draws attention and gives focus. Play it safe with the message.
(such as Justice for Natalee). You can always make your own signs later and add other messages.
Our sign didn't cost a lot and it wasn't too heavy. When you get the permit, ask how large the sign can be.

3) Put Natalee's photo on your sign. The sign maker could not or would not do this--so we just taped on the photo. Many people remembered
Natalee from her picture.

4) Have informational handouts or flyers.

5) Talk to people.

6) Wear Natalee shirts--especially with her image.

7) Make it clear that you are a volunteer.

Give out stickers, buttons, magnets, or something of that nature.
We didn't have a lot of money for that but did manage to give away a few
little things.

These are just suggestions. of course. And if you can send buttons or stickers or help someone going, please do so and get the stuff to them early. We can all help each other and Natalee in some way.

ALSO:

And the most important thing is:

OBEY THE LAW.

Also, when you apply for the permit,
you might want to call it an
awareness campaign or distribution of
informational/educational leaflets--something of that nature.

Again, Richard is the one to ask about the permit.

Richard also has some good tips:

Also, keep in mind that the name "Natalee" isn't an instant-recall thing to everyone.  We who frequent this forum have Natalee on our minds all the time, more or less anyway, but this is not true of everyone out there.

On the other hand, most people remember at least something about "the girl missing in Aruba."

One passerby had a good suggestion for a sign: "Justice for Natalee, abducted in Aruba in 2005."  Or something like that, just to bring to mind the basic facts for the people out there.  Anything more would be too cluttered, I think.

And there's a good chance that you'll be on TV locally, as we were.  So it would help to have a few things in mind, your chief points ready.

If you can sound concise on TV, and start off with something like: "For these three reasons, we think... etc.," it helps keep you organized.  Most of us have not been in front of a microphone, and hence might not come across all that well.  The same is true, I guess, even for the regular stuff: if you have the attention of someone walking by for thirty seconds, what are the key points you would want to make?

I have a very basic question, re. this "open to the public" thing.

Even if the exhibit is not open to the public, my assumption is that the shows are for travel agents and travel writers.

I will agree that that "audience" may be more familiar with the Natalee case than the general public.

But we have seen so many of these articles by travel writers who just don't seem to get the point:

Aruba is NOT very safe, and even worse, if something happens, justice will not be served.

So is there some reason to avoid the shows that are not "open to the public"? And for that matter, even if Aruba isn't participating, more awareness among agents & writers that this DOES STILL matter wouldn't hurt.

I will look into Miami. (Not a place I liked much, the one time I was there - in the 70s!)

Also, if I can't do any active participation, I can contribute a little toward the cost of handouts.

I am glad we have this thread. Thanks to klaas and to J4N for the tips.

I am so surprised Atlanta is not on the list, and I've even tried to find something myself. There are travel shows here all the time, until I'm looking for one!

msmarple --

The Miami event has a 'sister' show in November in Ft Lauderdale.

I posted the link a few posts up. I would not be surprised to see the same exhibitors as the Miami venue. I believe the dates are November 28 - 29. That provides plenty of preparation time.

It would be nice to think that we will have been satisfied with answers and justice by then.

What Vicki says up above is confirmed … Aruba has a booth at the Miami Herald travel show, to be held on April 28-29.

(The show is actually owned by and managed by a Connecticut company … that’s their words … how you “own” a travel show is beyond me. But anyway, Aruba will be there.)

Please spread the word to anyone in the Miami area. We did it for Natalee in Boston; let’s do it again in Miami. We want to challenge the ATA EVERYWHERE it shows its ugly face in the U.S.

Sharon,

That is nice of you to offer help.
I will make sure that the organizer of the protest sees it.
And if things change, it would be great
if you could attend the event!

To all monkeys living anywhere near Miami:
Stand up for Natalee and help out the small group going.
They could use all the help they can get. There are signs to hold,
leaflets and maybe trinkets to hand out, and people to talk to.
Give it your best shot and try to attend. You will enjoy a lot of camaraderie and do a good deed at the same time.

I will continue to watch this thread for updates.

I will be back in Miami tomorrow evening. Not sure for how long. If there is anything I can do to help the organizer, I will consider myself lucky to be able to do anything to help. I have been a supporter of Natalee voice since the early days of June 2005.

And if I am in town for the event -- there is nothing that will keep me away.

If you can't participate in a show, perhaps you can contribute $$ a bit to help, at least with the cost of permit, sign, handouts.

I am hoping that Richard will post a way to facilitate that.

These contributions would NOT be deductible.

Richard posted this at a Petition thread that Diahanna (sp?) started - hold on, I'll post a link after I finish this post.

Richard organized the Boston demo. He has been working for years with the Amy Bradley case, and also has wrapped his arms around Natalee's.

Quote
Please encourage anyone interested to contact me at VolunteersforNatalee@gmail.com. I'm trying to build up a mailing list so that we can keep people up to date on ATA's next appearance.

If anyone is in a position to make a donation, however small, please feel free to do so. It will be passed on to the Miami people with sincere gratitude. We who went to Boston were amazed at the generosity of those who thought the cause important.

(Please note that this is not tax deductible, and that we do not speak for or represent the Holloway Twitty family in any way.)

We think this is an important cause. And we think that these demonstrations, modest though they are, will help keep Natalee's case in the public eye. Perhaps we may save more lives and help get answers.

No justice for Natalee ... no tourism for Aruba.

Are there any FL posters willing to deliver and do we all think we can get a ton of signatures by April, if we try hard enough????

Vickie - fixed you up with one until we can find others for you.  To put an avatar in your profile it has to be on a website like photobucket.  Then you paste the url link (without the IMG tags) into the third option in your profile for avatars.  I'll find some other choices for you later today.

Vicki,

We didn't have any real problems with Aruba Tourism.
The guy in charge just wanted to stop our protest, that's all.
He thought he was still in Aruba, LOL.

Just have that permit/paper handy.

And remember, we all support you and you are doing
a very good thing for Natalee.

Plus, you are in the United States, not Aruba.

This is where YOU live and where NATALEE was born and raised.

FREEDOM OF SPEECH

JUSTICE FOR NATALEE

Vicki, you will do a great job just by being there and reminding
people of Natalee!

Interresting post by Nospinbill at BFN. I have no idea if this person has any "inside" information or if he's speculating like the rest of us:

Quote
Interesting, indeed...

...still, "a lot of questions not answered"...

...search team returning for additional searches for Natalee

...Aruba tourism still down, barely back to 2004-05 level

...additional Aruba corruption cases coming public

...U.S. tourism trade shows by Aruba publicly highlighted more and more actively by volunteers with respect to increasing Natalee case awareness to potential tourists

Hey Vicki!!! What you are doin is huge!! You should be
very proud at what you are doing. You are making a
huge diffrence just being there. Dont let anyone stop
you from using your freedom and standing up for
Natalee.

It's all about the love we have for natalee and her
family. We are all in this fight together. People need
to stop traveling to Aruba until they stop protecting
the criminals and they bring Natalee home.

Best of luck!!

Dont be afraid to tell these people in Miami that this is far from any missing person case they have ever read about. Normally Victims have a fair and honest justice system where they all dont work together to protect the criminals. What has happened to Natalee and her family is a outrage!!

Many people out there have forgotten all about Natalee and dont remember who she is. Its your time you are spending so say what you like. You know there are thousands with you in spirit.

Boycott Aruba!!!!!!!!!!

Update from Miami Travel Show from Grass..I assume Vicki will send Klaas pics later when she gets back...

Today the 28 April 2005, I arrived at 845am, left 430pm. A very long day in the sun. The signs and banners were beautiful. the banner on my van when you came off expressway, that was the first thing you see, then as you turn corner you would see the sherton marquee and under that was another banner, all entrances had signs, there were three, only one was the main one. A lot of traffic, back up from valet parking, but hotel blamed us. They called police, they came and told us we were not allowed near entrance but signs could stay. If an accident happen we would be responsible, if they had to come back we would be ask to leave. I will be back in the morning until around 300pm, then long 5+ hour drive back, have no choice I must be there for job Monday first thing, they would not let me changed until Tusday.
Take care,
grass

Also posted by ******* (I think - part of a quote stack):

Yup.. Heres a email I got from richard..It went out to Red as well..

Today there are three people there, with more likely tomorrow. But the organizer doesn't have a digital camera, and is not staying in a hotel with computer access. And 'Grass' apparently is in a hotel without it. So unless something happens, it's probably unlikely that photos will be forthcoming before, say, early next week.

The coordinator said that interest was strong, and that lots of people driving by are stopping to pick up the handouts. Apparently they have some really big signs up, and one of them is attached to the marquee of the Sheraton! (Don't ask me how they pulled that off.)

I don't want to tell their story from them, but things seem to be going very well. And as with us in Boston, they got some dirty looks from people whom they presumed to be Aruban.

Jamie reported this from BFN
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just talked to my sister Kathy, and she said the "protest" was a success, with a lot of positive response. She will be sending me pictures soon...She is worn out...Florida sun is HOT
...
She said many people pulled over to the side of the road, to get flyer's and information and I know that with the news out of Aruba, on the search, and it being on TV now, people have Natalee fresh on their minds again. Good timing, huh?

She said that she really enjoyed meeting the ones who went down there and had such good words to say about them. This group IS a very special group of people, as were the ones who went to the BostonTravel show. I am so thankful for all of you.

I will be posting pictures as I get them. She has sent me a video of what was going on and I will go watch it now, but the digital pictures will be sent to me in a little while.

Another Update by Grass.

Today, Sunday 29 April 2005 I just got home, no traffic so it only took 4 hrs 10 min, 269 miles. I do have many pics and as soon as I put them into computer they will be posted. Today was not that busy like yesterday was but we had a chance to actually talk to English speaking people lol, all the buttons are gone almost all the flyer's also, again I put the 8 ft banner up on the marquee, that was not on there property, thats why I did it, I am bold, also another one we tied to two trees. So many said they would pray, and last night we were on the Spanish news channel, they were talking about the protest, I love it. Got to show today at 10:00am, it started to rain around 2:30pm, plus no one was coming then, I went to the store and got me some food, then back to fill up van, NO ONE was even driving in place. thats about it folks, pics will be next.

Hey all...man that was a rough weekend. Just sent pictures to Red... Im sure they will be posted on the FP. It was sooooo hot down there. We all got burnt even with sunblock and hats. Im sore from holding the signs and handing out flyers, but I enjoyed every minute trying to be Natalees voice. Didnt break down crying till the next day, when a blogger was helping us and she started shoutig, Natalees Mom wants her back home...Its been 2 years. Thats when we all lost it. Im crying handing out flyers. I know it touched alot of hearts. We were honked at in agreement, given the thumbs up sign and yelled at.." WE WILL NEVER GO TO ARUBA. All in all, this was a labor of love and couldnt of happened without all of your donations, love and support. Thank you all for being with us in Miami, your "SPIRIT" was felt also. Title: Miami Herald protest was a smash! Next one is New Orleans
Post by: Richard on May 06, 2007, 09:34:05 AM
I don't get to come here much anymore, since it takes my computer forever and ever to load this.  I'm not even sure that I remember how to post here ... site administrator, if this doesn't link on to the Miami Herald travel show thread, please move it there!

Anyway, I'm sure that we all think Vicki and her people pulled off a magnificent event.  The signs are beyond praise, and they found some incredible places to post them.  I don't know how they managed to put one up on the marquee of the Sheraton Hotel without getting in trouble, but they did it.  If it were in Aruba, I'd suspect a payoff....

And Vicki, hearing that phrase by that passer-by puts tears in my eyes too: "Natalee's mom wants her back home."  That itself might be good for a sign.

The next event, I gather, is the vacation.com meeting in New Orleans.  A listing at the very beginning of this thread says it will be held in June, but you refer to October.  I'll check their site.

We all know that the Dutch search team is in Aruba.  How long they will be there, whether their effort is sincere (I think it is), and whether they will find anything is something we don't know.  Regardless, let's continue our efforts.

No justice for Natalee ... no tourists for Aruba.

Let me say a bit about that condo (actually, a time share; but for all I know, it might be the same thing).

Two days ago, a self-described new poster on another forum (BFN) wrote to me at VolunteersforNatalee@gmail.com and offered to let people who were taking part in the New Orleans demonstration against the ATA stay at her time share.

I wrote back saying that this offer was more than generous, and that I would spread the word.  What I suggested, and she agreed, was that to minimize chances of any "kooks" or Aruba trolls harassing her. I would ask people to spread the word.  And anyone interested should contact VolunteersforNatalee@gmail.com to let us know, and the message and e-mail will be forwarded to this person, who will then contact you directly.

I can promise that I won't give out your e-mail or phone (if you provide it) to anyone else.

I believe that this offer is genuine, not some kind of scam.  I can't promise, but anyone interested would have to make the contact and then decide for yourself.

Today's news about the Holloway Twitty suit being thrown out of court is not the end of the road by any means, but it's depressing ... to me, at least.  I hope it will get some people angry enough to take part in the event.

Stand up for Natalee in New Orleans at the end of June!

Post by: Richard on June 13, 2007, 06:15:01 AM
With about two weeks to go until the latest confrontation with Aruba Tourism Authority, I thought I’d give an update on how things are going. And they are going very well.

From June 27 to July 1, the ATA will be present at an event in New Orleans that is open to travel agents only. Since these are the people who push Aruba (those who do), I thought it was very important that Natalee supporters show up to keep the message going: “No justice for Natalee … no tourists for Aruba.”

One person contacted me with an unbelievably generous offer: she would let participants in the protest use her timeshare in New Orleans. This has worked out.

The New Orleans protest is being led by Jamie, whose sister made those wonderful signs that were used in Miami. Jamie told me last night that things are moving ahead.

This will be the biggest turnout ever, judging from the number of people who have said they will take part.

Anyone who wants to make a donation, ask about showing up, or just wants to make a statement of support is asked to write to VolunteersforNatalee@gmail.com. Your message will be passed on to Jamie.

We confronted the ATA at Boston.
We confronted the ATA at Miami.
Now we’re facing them at New Orleans.

And we will not back down. We can’t force them to do justice for Natalee … but we can, and will, make sure that they understand the costs of not doing so.

It’s their choice.

“No justice for Natalee … NO TOURISTS FOR ARUBA.”

Regardless of Robin's letter, whether she supports it or not.  It's the principal.  People can be in danger and if we can educate them, then go for it!  I say the show must go on!

Justice for Natalee Holloway

We almost owe Robin a 'thank you' for providing a boost to our already incredibly strong determination.

I said 'almost'

Title: Get ready, ATA ... for another protest in New Orleans!
Post by: Richard on June 23, 2007, 09:55:10 AM
Remember, folks, in less than one week the New Orleans protest starts.

From June 27 to July 1, the Aruba Tourism Authority will be in New Orleans trying to sell a bunch of travel agents on the wonders and splendor of Aruba.

"No justice for Natalee ... no tourists for Aruba."

As you might expect, they will be confronted by protesters just as they were at Boston and at Miami.

The ATA must see this as a very important event, because travel agents are in a position to steer people to Aruba.  How many people, before Natalee vanished, ever thought of Aruba at all?  And if their travel agents smiled and said "Oh, aren't you lucky!  It's a wonderful little island!" how many people would have doubted their word?

No longer.  Now tragedy has exposed to the world what Aruba is really like, and brought to light other horrors that were suppressed.  The people showing up in New Orleans will not let the ATA ignore Natalee's case.

Any questions or comments, etc., can be addressed to VolunteersforNatalee@gmail.com and will be forwarded to the person in charge of things.

Beth has said outright that she continues to support the boycott.  We will NEVER let Natalee's case be forgotten!

First I just want to wish everybody going to NO,  good luck and wish I could be there to help out!

I'm not sure if you've seen all the Diario articles recently with the arrests of Lorenzo, etc.. and violence breaking out in Aruba shown on SM,  but you may want to bring all this up as well.   I believe this would add more to the cause, if people could see the current state of affairs, which is it looks like all hell is breaking loose in Aruba right now!

Good luck and God Bless!

There was good exposure for the cause today in New Orleans!  Although some protestors were unable to come, last minute, and there are just 3 of us, the banners and signs are being noticed and are as well placed as possible.  (Some of them are shown on the photos below.)  We can only place signs on public property and Hilton Hotel security made us take down a banner they thought was too close to their property.  The World Trade Center made us move signs in their lawn, near the sidewalk.  Otherwise, there were no problems.

People were walking up to us and talking about the case, asking questions.  Some were arrogant or rude and refused to take the nice brochures we were passing out.  Others seemed extremely interested in the case and very sympathetic to Natalee’s family.  Several even made it a point to tell us THEY are not going to Aruba!

Among the most interesting people we spoke with was a travel agent from Ontario who has 5 children and who showed a great deal of interest in this case.  Another man, a Native American, works in the Caribbean as a boat captain, and he was VERY angry about the anti-American sentiment he encounters that when he goes to countries in the Caribbean…and about Natalee’s case.

We’ll be going back tomorrow and Sunday to continue our protest...

This Riverwalk entrance is next to the Hilton, where the travel agents are meeting.  Many people are passing through this large gate and taking time to read the banners.

One of our cars is parked between Harrah's Casino and the Hilton, and most attending the travel meetings have to pass by...on foot or by car.

As people cross the streets in 4 directions, to and from the meetings, they are faced with signs...and/or us  :D

The text in the center reads:

Aruba
Where is Natalee Holloway?

On May 30, 2005, Natalee Holloway, an 18 year old young woman was celebrating her high school graduation with other students in Aruba, and after leaving a local establishment with three local young men at 1:30 in the morning, has not been seen or heard from since

After 24 months, the Aruban police and Aruba Legal Entity have not solved this mysterious disappearance.  It appears that the government of Aruba is interested only in tourist dollars rather than the life of a person and the heartbreak of her family.  The island of Aruba is not the safe place that is being promoted by the Aruban government and the Aruba Hotel and Tourist Association (AHATA).  A review of the statistics of crime on the island over the past several years has been suppressed in favor of promoting a safe place for tourists.

Aruba wants this to go away and be forgotten.  But, this will not happen until they come forth with what happened to Natalee and where she is right now.  Someone there knows the answers and refuses to come forward with the truth.

Until there is justice for Natalee Holloway, there should be no more tourists going to Aruba.

Post by: Karo on June 30, 2007, 08:37:33 PM
Greetings from Louisiana!
You wanted pictures, so I took more today  :D

This is the Hilton, where the tourism meetings are being held.  This picture is taken at a strange angle to fit in the garage (front) and the tower behind it.  The tower is where the tourism meetings are being held.

Moving around to the left is the Poydras Trolley Station, next to the Hilton’s tower.  I drew an arrow in red above the station.  This is where we tried to put a banner yesterday and Hilton security would not permit it.  It would have been the perfect spot for a banner…

But we had a banner behind this white gate, which is the entrance to the River Walk Market Place, so that people crossing the tracks between 2 parts of the Hilton with rooms for guests, and people riding the Trolley could see it.  The trolley in this picture is heading away---and just has passed the gate.

A man from security for the River Walk Market Place approached us about 3:30 this afternoon and made us take down the 2 large banners we had on this gate.  It is not considered public property.  At least we got to keep it there for 2 days.  Many people were stopping to read these banners.  Two people today even were taking pictures of them.  One was a young woman who asked many questions about the case and seemed very interested.

This is a picture of the whole gate, standing back further from it.  In front of it one of our signs is visible, on the crosswalk which many convention attendees were using.  "Aruba- Find the Truth.  Where is Natalee?"

To be continued...

Title: TOURISM TRADE SHOW LISTING
Post by: Karo on June 30, 2007, 08:43:22 PM
We have planned where we will put the banners tomorrow, and they still will be very visible.  Tomorrow is the last day of this convention…and gatherings also will be held in and near Jackson Square, on the edge of the French Quarter, so we will try to put a banner on the car in a way that it still can be driven safely, then drive down the street which borders Jackson Square.

In this next picture is a man from Haiti (right side- sitting on the while post) who showed much interest in Natalee’s being found and the family getting answers.  He is holding a Natalee brochure.  Behind him is the World Trade Center.  Some of our signs also are visible.

I am turning left again, toward Harrah’s, where you can see more signs…and some of downtown New Orleans in the background.

We had thunderstorms today…and it was raining so hard this morning we had to set up a bit later than planned.  We got drenched…  I sure wish northern Alabama could have had this rain instead!

But it overall was another good day…for again, people were coming up, expressing concern about Natalee and her family.  We met a number of people from Birmingham. Some have relatives or family members who went to high school where Natalee did.

Some people came up just to ask us if there is any news about Natalee, because they haven’t heard any news for a while.

I hope you get some TV interviews, and that those amazing signs and pamphlets are put on air to remind everyone about the cause.

Each time Aruba Tourism Authority rears its ugly head in this country, we have a chance to improve and expand our response.

Did you get any responses from anyone in the Aruban camp?

Best wishes, and congrats on a tremendous job!  Amidst all the dismal international news, this effort lights a candle in the darkness.

Thanks, Karo, for your post.  Some of what I say you have already said, but I will post it anyway.

I just talked with grass.  The vacations.com show agenda is wrapping up today at 12:00 and then the attendees are going over to Jackson Square for a walkaround and tour.  Jamie, grass and Karo will be there waiting for them with signs and brochures.

Many people have seen their T-Shirts and come up and ask about Natalee - seems more know about her than you realize.  They have even met some people from Mtn Brook, one who went to school with Natalee.

They have taken a lot of pictures which should be posted on BFN and SM either late this evening or tomorrow.

Thanks, grass, Jamie and Karo for a job well done.  Your time and efforts will help to ensure that Natalee will not be forgotten.

A huge thank you to all who are taking part in the New Orlean's protest.  Thank you for being a voice for a voice that has been silenced.  Natalee Holloway is an American citizen ... an American citizen who has been denied justice by a corrupt Aruban agenda ... an agenda established to to distance their own from implication.

Thank you for not only "talking the talk but walking the walk."

Sincerely, Janet

Meetings for the travel convention were between 9:30 and noon.  We set the banners up in new locations this morning.  Many were able to see them as they drove to and from—or near—the Hilton.  The travel agents themselves were coming and going on tours of the French Quarter and had to pass by the banners…

About 12:30 we moved our efforts to the French Quarter, where there were organized tours for the attendees.  The Quarter also was crowded with tourists and locals, as is usual on the weekends.

Grass had talked with a woman who runs the horse and carriage tours through the Quarter, and she was persuaded by him to allow us to place signs on the back of 3 carriages for one hour.  That enabled many people to see the signs as they walked or rode through the Quarter.  The carriages are quite visible.  Jamie and I rode in one of these 3 carriages….and even were able to pass out a few brochures as the carriage stopped at several points along its route  :D

All in all, we considered the weekend efforts a success.  Many have not forgotten Natalee.  Many were reminded she still is missing.  Many showed great interest in the case.  And hopefully, many travel agents got the message that Natalee is still missing, so Aruba is NOT a safe place to travel.  There even were some brochures brought into the Hilton.  We believe the Aruban delegates were well aware we were there!

I looked around at this site, trying to figure out what the heck a Motivation Show would be (in the context of Aruba ... )

The Motivation Show is divided into two sections:

The National Premium/Incentive Show (NPIS) featuring branded merchandise, promotional products, recognition awards, gift cards, online and performance improvement services.

The Incentive Travel & Meeting Executives Show (IT&ME) featuring travel destinations, cruise lines, meeting services, and event logistics suppliers from more than 60 countries.

I posted this on the first page of this thread, but I didn't want it to get lost.

It's the link to the travel show in Ft Lauderdale at the end of November (27th - 28th I think). Aruba has a booth.

I believe this may be one of the ones that the 'management company' is referring to in your post J4N. Not sure though -- because I thought the Ft Lauderdale show was the 'sister' show to the one we had in Miami end of April.

******* posted this on the LCD 07/19/2007; just wanted to keep all the travel show information together.

Morning Monkeys..A couple of people at BFN had asked me to post my experience with ATA members in Boston..Originally it was goin on the FP at SM but it was erased by accident

Some of you asked me to tell my story with ATA members that we talked to in Boston so I will do my best to remember as it has been a few months. Dadof1 I am sure can add to this. Nothing extraordinary was talked about and it was pretty much what I expected but this is my experience.

I arrived on Saturday morning and it didn't take long before I had my first encounter outside. Carrying the big sign that said Justice for Natalee a lady came up to me and said in a loud tone Natalee Who?? I said Natalee Holloway, she went missing in Aruba almost two years ago..She cut me off and said so what people go missing all the time and acted like she didn't know who Natalee was....Look at all the crime and missing people in the U.S. She said this Natalee whoever is just one missing person.. As I was explaining to her that Natalee never got a fair Investigation and this was no ordinary missing American. She cut me off again and I could tell this was someone very cold who didn't want to hear me talk as she was mentioning crime/missing people in the U.S. I said look the parents have been fighting a foreign govt for two years and just want the truth and justice about there missing daughter...The Father of the main suspects was friends with Investigators and Govt officials......She cut me off again and said the U.S Govt isn't corrupt? I said this was about a young girl who was most likely murdered, the crime covered up and the family has no answers or there daughter..She said and Bush and American Govt doesn't cover up murders? She then walked into the building.

We were not sure who she was but when I did go into the Travel Show she was front and center in there large section. Her name was Katie who looked to be American or Dutch..My guess would be American(Blonde and Blue eyes). Someone at the travel show saw me with a  Aruba brochure and commented to me how rude she was..Said he had a horrible time at a certain resort and she told him well you get what you pay for.

I knew that talking to these people from Aruba would be pointless but I did it for my own curiosity and to show them we were loving caring people and why we were there. Not ignorant animals who wanted to hurt everyone in Aruba. Every time I talked to anyone at the Booth I made sure they knew who I was and why I was in Boston. I believe I talked to most everyone except for one or two ladies around Katie and the guy I heard about on Friday. Also I wasn't in Boston on Friday to see the bad looks that the Arubans gave or the attempt to get us kicked off the property.

Because Gabe Leo said he would be in Boston and was looking forward to meeting us I went looking for him..He was a no show!! I talked to a few members of the band a bit as they looked to be the youngest..They had no opinions on anything..Talked to another member and she had explained to me that there Govt that was bad and what can they do? She compared it to the U.S Govt and if I had any control over there actions.. I had a similar talk with another member and she told me the same thing..They admitted there Govt was not on the up but said it was out of there control.. They were both nice people and they both clearly understood why we were outside being a voice for Natalee and they had no problems with it. We met the Aruban dancer outside and she told me she was instructed or restricted not to talk about Natalee Holloway or the case.

Day 2:I was feeling a bit tired, cold and it was a much slower day so I spent a bit more time inside talking to the Arubans. It had snowed overnight and that may have scared off some people who were gonna attend the event. However Organizers had told us though that they had met there goals for attendance.

A few times when the Arubans would come out to smoke I would smile and wave and they would do the same. We had talked to a very nice lady who managed one of the resorts. She was very charming and like most of the ATA members were fine representatives. Judging by there webcam I dont believe the numbers she had told me for occupancy are correct. I would suspect that what they discuss with me is quite diffrent than a travel show attendee. Especially when it was obvious they were coached or told not to talk about the case. So much of the time it was small talk about Aruba or the States.

Dadof1 introduced me to a very outgoing and extremely friendly gent who wanted to talk about the case. I immediately brough up PVDS and he told me that he was a dirtbag or dirty and a outcast on the island..That was shocking to me as everyone else at the booth didn't have much to say as I expected..I told him I thought there was a conflict of interest involving PVDS friends who were high ranking members of the ALE. He said who? I mentioned "Papito" Edward Commencia..He said No No..He is a very good friend of mine and is a good cop and did nothing wrong. I asked if that was Jorans God Father and he told me no. Then I asked about Van Der Straaten and he shook his head like he was a good cop as well and doesnt think that is Joran's God Father either but it was possible..he never finished his thought..He wanted to talk more but was working and asked for me to come back later..It was late on sunday and unfortunately I didn't

On the other side of the booth were two younger lookin Aruban girls..I introduced myself and she said she knew who I was with a smile..I explained to her it wasn't like me to be at a protest but what was done to Natalee was outrageous. Like everyone else she was quiet and either agreed or didn't know. When I brought up people involved in the case around her age she told me she was from Curacao originally so she doesnt know them. We talked about the Curacao making the LLWS in baseball and daily life in Aruba. We had talked for a while about places in Aruba and I brought up C&C and she had told me its a fun place and she has been there alot. I had told her what lead investigator Dennis Jacobs had told Dave Holloway on the first day looking for his daughter about watching his drink as people put things into drinks...etc..SHe had told me she never heard of people being drugged and that she doesnt go there much now as she is married. I could see that I was drawing attention from the center of the ATA Booth. After that something was handed to her and she looked underneath it. Dadof1 asked her if that was a note meaning to be quiet and she slightly acknowledged.Dadof1 made a joke about visiting the Curacao booth and I was joking around so I said yes she is trying to break Joran's record of 22 straight lies. We had a good long talk about many things here and in Aruba and she got a kick out of the accents from where I am from as they dont use the R'S..Pawk the Caw..Wotten Wabbit Etc..

The ATA had a nice setup with mostly warm friendly Arubans and they spent Big Bucks at this travel show. Front and center they had the dis-information people and those most suited to answer questions the way the Aruban Govt wanted them answered. I believe everyone else was instructed not to voice there opinions or talk about Natalee Holloway. They knew we were coming and I noticed on sunday the older looking Aruban Gentleman who watched us closely for several hours.

Looking back on the event I am very happy I attended and I know we made a impact in Boston. I hope in the near future this case is solved so that we dont have to actively Boycott Aruba and get organized. We all know Aruba tourism depends on cities like Boston and NY Let's all keep the faith until Natalee is brought home and justice is served.

Title: TOURISM TRADE SHOW LISTING
Post by: msmarple on July 27, 2007, 02:26:43 PM
klaas posted this 07/27/2007 on the LCD:

Today the Centrale Bank van Aruba publishes its 2006 Annual Report. The statement by the
President, which is also included in this report, is presented below.

http://www.cbaruba.org/cba/readBlob.do?id=1071

(snipped)

After a subdued performance in 2005, activities in the tourism sector turned negative in 2006, as both stay-over visitors and their nights spent on Aruba fell by 5 percent and 4 percent, respectively, compared to a slight 1 percent rise in 2005.

The Aruba Tourism Authority attributes this contraction to increased hotel rates in combination with a decline in room availability during 2006, due to renovations and upgradings. Higher airfares caused by a rise in fuel costs also had a negative impact.

The performance in the cruise tourism industry was more upbeat. Cruise passenger arrivals and port calls rose by 7 percent and 1 percent in 2006, respectively, following a decline of 4 percent and 2 percent in 2005.

In total, almost 1.3 million stay-over and cruise tourists visited Aruba in 2006. Fortunately, the period December 2006 through February 2007 showed a positive recovery in stay-over arrivals.

The sluggish performance in the tourism sector was also reflected in a 2 percent decline in registered gross tourism receipts, compared to 2005, when a 4 percent increase was registered. Consequently, the contribution of tourism receipts to the current account receipts of the balance of payments of the rest of the economy (excluding the oil and freezone sectors) declined to 74 percent, 4 percentage points lower than in 2005.

Therefore, the partial offsetting effect of the tourism sector income vis-à-vis the large other current account outflows of the rest of the economy became smaller and, thus, contributed to a further deterioration of the current account balance of the rest of the economy.

Vicki
I was hoping to go.. and even visit with daughter ... but..sorry to say  I can not swing it at this time.

Also wanted to leave this for those that read here
Posted this in the Musings... yesterday..

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok... Monkey Buddies  This just rubs me the wrong way. I have this idea and looking for some help on how to make it work.
"Every year, the Aruba Poker Classic has grown in both participants and prize money. The 2007 event will offer an estimated $2,500,000 in prize money! "
From http://www.arubaclassic.com/

If you check out the schedule of events it starts Saturday September 29, through October 6th. http://ultimatebet.com/promotions/aruba2007.html

I can think of NO way to try to boycott this event. Where would we go to do it ?

Wouldn't be great to see someone on  TV at the final table some way supporting Justice for Natalee.

A big old polo shirt with Natalee on it and J4N  would be great  but they may have some sort of dress code.
I would settle for a 2" button pic with Natalee or just J4N on it.

How do you contact the potential players?

Just an OldFart Wondering

I keep pondering how to do something  .. and hope who ever reads will pass this  along
Thanks
OldFart
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How do you contact potential tounament players and ask them to show some support for finding Justice for Natalee?
Maybe.. Just maybe.. we have some Poker Playing Monkeys/ readers

JMO of course

Hello,
Are you or do you know someone that is planning on attending this tournament?

Does the name Natalee Holloway seem familiar to you... does it ring any bells?

Do you know her story... where the case stands today...  2 years + after she went missing in Aruba ?  What are your feeling about it if any?

I'm not going to attempt to educate you about Natalee's case.  If you do not know it , you will have to search the Internet and make your own decision and apply your own common sense on what you do find.

Bottom line is, if you happen to think that Justice for Natalee and her family is still missing,  please try to make some small statement that reflects that while you are there.

Justice for Natalee /  J4N on a shirt, hat or button would work for me.

No --- This is not a Boycott Aruba letter!  If you are going, hope you have safe trip and keep Natalee in your heart and mind while there and let the people of Aruba know it.

Thank You

If we can get a list of the Pro's attending then we can contact them at there myspace, blogs or search for there email..I believe this event will be on ESPN and the Discovery channel..Phil Laak and Jenniffer Harmon may be attending and they seem like good people who may show sympathy for Natalee Holloway..I am not the best writer so if someone can write a quick draft to send to these people it would be appreciated..We arent asking for them to boycott just a button, hat or shirt with Natalee's image on it..

These two are well connected pro's that are good people..Not sure if they will be in Aruba though..

." Event organizers expect 750 players for the championship event. Somewhere around 100 or so will be amateurs who win there seats online.

The championship event is sure to draw a good mix of name players, including UB endorsers Phil Hellmuth, Annie Duke and Antonio Esfandiari, with other players such as Phil Laak and Jennifer Tilly expected to attend. One celebrity already signed up is Anthrax guitarist Scott 'Not' Ian, who won his seat by taking down VH1's "Rock Stars of Poker" event.

Haven't read all the way back yet, are you guys talking about poker players? I e-mail one a couple of weeks ago who was in Aruba for a tournament. I misread his website though and he was already back. He e-mailed me back!! Real sweet kid from Alabama. Let me know if you want his e-mail address and i will get it to you.

Klaas, can you give Old Fart my e-mail address?

And Richard, great to see you again!

Thanks for all your efforts--you put a lot of time and work into this event--and also stood in the freezing cold to be a voice for Natalee. You are all Natalee's angels.

Jamie of BFN, once again, thanks for going out of your way to get those beautiful banners and signs to PA. Many, many people saw them and remembered Natalee.

Jodi, I'm sorry ... I had no idea whatsoever that you made the sweatshirts!  I was there for two days, and either you never mentioned it or I never cottoned (no pun intended) on to it.

Anyone who reads this ... I was a very minor figure at this event.  The credit goes to Vicki, Jamie, Jodi (whose contribution I didn't quite understand until I found out that she made the sweatshirts), and of course 10061906, whose lavish hospitality allowed me to appear.  He refuses to take any credit for this, but deserves it immensely.

I got a short message from Beth ... I won't put it here, as I don't feel privileged to disclose what she says ... but you can be certain that she is very happy about the continued support given to her.  These gestures do not go unnoticed.

How privileged I feel to work with such fine people in such a worthwhile cause.

If only more could be done.

Some of the participants were interested in my 'Song for Natalee' that I wrote around Memorial Day, so I'm going to put it here.  It goes, very roughly, to the tune of 'John Brown's Body':

(and I'm not saying that I think this must have been the actual course of events)

Her precious life was taken by those filthy three;
The devil chuckled at the torments they will see.
The angels sobbed with grief -- but then joined hands in glee
To welcome Natalee!

(chorus:)  Glory, glory, Hallelujah,
               Glory, glory, Hallelujah,
               Glory, glory, Hallelujah;
               HER truth is marching on!

Now our boycott leaves Arubans all afraid --
Wretched curs, to cry to those who you betrayed!
Let our message leave you trembling and dismayed;
We'll fight for Natalee!

(chorus)

Fellow Americans, it's up to me and you;
Sing this message loud to Oduber and crew:
To save your island, this we demand of you --
Justice for Natalee.

(chorus)

We'll stand side by side with Beth forevermore,
Urging people to avoid Aruba's shore.
Let them moan and whine, on them we'll slam the door,
For love of Natalee!

(chorus)

I just want to thank everyone who went to Pa. Boston, Miami and New Orleans to any of these tourism trade shows. Also, my thanks to all who have donated or contributed in any way they have. Thank you to scared monkeys, Dana and other pro Natalee forums like BFN for their continued support of Natalee and her family. We all need to continue to keep the pressure on Aruba until someone steps forward and tells the truth. Those involved in Natalee's disappearance has caused Aruba to be in the position they are today. Not any one of us and they are the only ones who will be able to save their reputation, their livelihood. The longer this is drawn out, the worse it will stay for them. There are just TOO many people now, that have grown to love Natalee and be a voice for her. There will be NO backing down now, on our part. The longer this takes, the stronger we become and I don't think they expected that. It is my belief that one day Justice will be served for Natalee. Please don't give up that hope. WE are all in this together and we will not give up until her parents have the truth and answers they so deserve.

Thank you again for what everyone has done and may God bless you all.

Welcome HOPE,and for your avi...Im sitting here reading and the tears wont stop flowing...We are all Natalees angels trying to get JUSTICE for her. The love and compassion is what will do it. When ppl are EVIL they cannot comprehend LOVE. GOOD always wins out...We are growing stronger, and it truely is a blessing to be a part of this BOYCOTT. What happened to Natalee should never had happened, but what happened afterwards to her family was just plain disgusting. Im proud to live in a country where we can get together and protest INJUSTICE..and fight for what is RIGHT. Thank you all for caring and loving NATALEE and her family and for not giving up. God is on our side. The wrong that was done must be made right...and if by doing this, we save one child, as Beth says, than Natalee didnt die in vain...aruba is not safe and ppl need to made aware of this. Its a seedy, drug infested place, where anything goes...Youll be hearing from me for the next show...Its in Vegas, the 4th-6th....of DECEMBER...

Vicki, anyone, when is the next date that Aruba will be in the states for their promotion of tourism? With the latest events, it's seems that they will want to come here even more so now. The MSM reports are working in our favor with the reporting of the bros and Joran's release. The more coverage, the more Americans will know AND remember how this case has been handled! Continue your hope and that justice will one day be served!

Hi All  :smt006

I was not sure where to post this link... but this seems like a good spot to at least save it in.

This appears to be Travel Agencies that are on the Aruba's Preferred list?

"The Aruba Tourism Authority has a listing of authorized experts that are specialists in helping you plan a trip to Aruba"  that you can locate by Zip Code
http://www.aruba.com:80/reservations/acefind.jsp

Besides protesting at Travel Shows ... maybe some signs around Travel Agencies?

To those that are going...  Just a thought...
Maybe some can check with local authorities on what is required to post hand-bills and where they can be posted...so that some could be put up around the travel agencies that are listed on Arubua preferred list for zip code 02210 which I think may be semi-close to the convention center.

Just a thought...

Boycott? Did someone mention boycott? This is a perfect segue for my great news:

Permits have been secured for both Boston and NY. In fact, in NY, we have the fine
cooperation of NYPD Blue! They will set up a special spot.

We also have excellent brochures, fabulous message giveaways (pens, totes, magnets),
and those same beautiful signs and banners you have seen plus maybe 1 or 2 new ones.

Jodi will create a Natalee/Missing sweatshirt in your requested size for any attendee.
They  look great and are very warm.

Thanks to all monkeys for your generous help!

One special favor: We do need more people to add to both groups going. ESPECIALLY NY.

More hands, please! If you need a ride or gas/train fare, sometimes there is help for that. Just ask Vicki; she will help if she can. Don't be shy. We need you! Natalee needs you!

Just show up; that's all you have to do. Let Vicki know if you can:

JusticeforNatalee@gmail.com

All donations greatly appreciated and
put to good and proper use.

Thank you!!!!

I think this the the news article msmarple  was refering to
This is the translastion Getagrip at http://getagripmonkey.blogspot.com/

Quote
Because of abuse Diario Online suffered
Diario stops all Google Ads
DIARIO Aruba
02/05/2008

ORANJESTAD (AAN): The youchoose.net web site purchased ads from the Google Ads service and their promotion[al campaign] was to ‘Boycott Aruba’.

By misfortune, DIARIO Online was also running Google ads and on the weekend, various visitors to DIARIO’s web site ran into the campaign to ‘Boycott Aruba for Natalee’.

The content of the ads depends on Google and DIARIO doesn’t have any say in it. They are fed to DIARIO every time with hundreds of ads related to ‘Aruba’

By bad luck, the one of ‘Boycott Aruba’ appeared on the DIARIO web site. The DIARIO Daily has clearly indicated that it does not support the boycott. Because of this, management is upset that Google Inc. used space obtained on DIARIO Online to promote the propaganda of Boycott Aruba.

Various DIARIO Online readers reported what was happening and showed that they understood that DIARIO has no say in the content of Google Ads, but they found that something had to be done.

For this reason, the decision was taken that DIARIO Online will stop using Google Ads on its web site.
I am sorry to see the one Free voice in Aruba get bitched at but at the same time if the pepole of Aruba were made aware that the boycott has not gone way and WILL NOT until they seek Justice for Natalee too.... well then that was a good thing.
Just wish I knew what the Ad was..

Newspapers
Just throwing this on the table...

I noticed that the Boston Herald http://www.bostonherald.com/ had a number of news articles on Natalee and the hidden tapes
http://www.bostonherald.com/search/?topic=+holloway&searchSite=recent

Some items have comments attached.  The paper also has a Letter to the Editor section http://www.bostonherald.com/news/opinion/letters

I did not find this at the Boston Globe Site(s) but may have missed it too
http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/
Forum Site  http://boards.boston.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?folderId=1&listMode=13&nav=messages&webtag=bc-news

Any chance of getting something in the newpapers or their web sites about the protest and request that "Locals" participate.  Even a want Ad that I will contribute to the the cost of.

If Boston & NY are major market areas and given the latest info..  Maybe just maybe some people would want to help but just do not know how to.

I would also like to the see the financial statements for ATA  (Aruba Tourism Authority) for 3rd quarter 2005 through 4th quarter 2007.  Why?

ATA's purpose as a government entity is to promote tourism for Aruba using donated public funds ( I think ).  So how much money was spent and where versus offering some incentives for the truth to come forward

JMO of course

This is JMO... and from Clinton Nelsons's MySpace sights which are listed at http://scaredmonkeys.net/index.php?topic=1318.540

If the music could be played and  part of these lyrics could displayed it would not hurt the  Boycott  effort.   JMO  of course

Somewhere by Within Temptation

"Lost in the darkness
Hoping for a sign
Instead there's only silence
Can't you hear my screams?

Never stop hoping
Need to know where you are
But one thing's for sure
You're always in my heart

I'll find you somewhere
I'll keep on trying
Until my dying day
I just need to know
Whatever has happened
The truth will free my soul

Lost in the darkness
Tried to find your way home
I want to embrace you
And never let you go

Almost hope you're in heaven
So no one can hurt your soul
Living in agony
Cause I just do not know
Where you are"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6aqBvedQvE#  is one video...with the music

Just a thought for those able to make it to the trade shows and my thanks to them

This is a enormous show in NY! Aruba is not a major sponsor but they have a jumbo sized booth. The protest will be just for one day so if you want to do something great for Natalee this is your chance!

Vicki! You are THE BEST!

I haven't seen them try to do a South Florida show again since last year  ::MonkeyHaHa:: Maybe they are registering the island under a different name (POS Island??)  ::MonkeyLaugh::  ::MonkeyLaugh::

Let me know if you find out about a S Florida location again. I've been trying to keep an eye on West Palm -- thinking that Pesquera might still have PR 'ties' -- but I haven't run across anything.

SITE selects Aruba as destination of 2009 international conference
Wednesday, March 19, 2008

The Society of Incentive Travel Executives has selected the island of Aruba to be the host country of the SITE International Conference 2009, set for 3-6 December. The event will bring the top minds in incentive travel, a multi-billion dollar global industry, to one of the Caribbean's most celebrated destinations.

"SITE's membership is rich with innovators who greatly influence not only the evolution of the incentive industry, but also the business outcomes of client organizations," said SITE President Padraic Gilligan. "The SITE International Conference is a superlative forum where professionals from around the world gather to share insights that help them achieve professional goals, surpass client expectations, and have a meaningful and positive impact on economies of destination cities around the world."

These principals of community, leadership and growth guide SITE's vision - as well as its commitment to selecting distinct locales for its own events. Aruba, situated in the southern Caribbean just 15 miles from the South American coastline, is a tropical paradise with a rich heritage. Residents proudly showcase the island's cultural and environmental diversity, and are equally devoted to respecting and preserving the island's pristine marine and terrestrial ecosystems.

"Aruba is ideal for SITE's constituency," said SITE CEO Brenda Anderson. "Sharing experiential knowledge is imperative for incentive and travel professionals who wish to enhance expertise and better understand this worldwide industry. Aruba offers a unique setting; it's a model for promoting economic development with a keen eye toward cultural and environmental sensitivity - both of which are top-of-mind for SITE members and the organizations they work with to implement programs that drive business success," she added.

"We were thrilled to hear of SITE's decision to make Aruba its host location for the 2009 International Conference," said Minister of Tourism and Transportation, Edison Briesen. "The incentive travel industry is an important one for our island and we are looking forward to showcasing the many things that sets Aruba apart from the rest of the Caribbean region throughout the conference. We are confident that SITE's commitment to bringing together the most influential minds in this field, coupled with Aruba's dedication to delivering an unmatched travel experience to all our guests, is a recipe for success."
