(CNN) -- The capital murder trial of Casey Anthony continues Saturday, a day after jurors were transfixed by taped jailhouse conversations that could be damaging to Anthony's defense.

In one conversation played Friday, Anthony responded sarcastically when her mother brought up media accounts that circulated at the time about the possibility that 2-year-old Caylee Anthony had drowned in the family pool.

"Surprise, surprise," Anthony said of the rumor, which is now the primary defense theory in her capital murder trial in Orlando, Florida.

ORLANDO --

A hair found in Casey Anthony's trunk is expected to take center stage Saturday as her murder trial continues.

An FBI agent is expected to testify the hair showed signs of human decomposition.

It was found in the trunk after the Orange County Sheriffs' Office began analyzing the car in 2008.
   
Prosecutors say it proves Casey put Caylee's remains in the trunk after she was killed.
   
The defense has come forward with a different theory of the crime.
   
They also tried to prevent this evidence from being brought up at trial, but the judge ruled it will be up to jurors to decide.

Cos I ideal with with a lot of defense lawyers daily, I know a few of the secret rules. Rule #4 is " In order to use the insanity defense for your client, you yourself (the lawyer) must be sane enough to get thru a trial. You must be prepared, be polite, and above all, IF THE JUDGE TELLS YOU TO KEEP YOUR FILES IN A SPECIAL ROOM, THEN DO IT!"  ::boxingbaez::

In other words, not only is Bozo not qualified to be an attorney, he's sure as heck not qualified to make mental health calls!

HLN host Nancy Grace will host a three-hour block of programming tonight recapping the latest from the Casey Anthony Trial. The programming will be in lieu of HLN’s usual Saturday Night Mysteries block.

From 9 AM-1 PM ET Saturday, HLN will feature live court testimony, with the Grace special airing from from 7-10 PM ET, and replaying until early Sunday morning. Sunday HLN will run its usual programming.

Good morning.  I think Baez and Casey are both basking in their "celebrity".  However, once the trial is over both of their imaginary worlds will collapse.  JMO

Also will the state go after the Anthony's, in the future , for the cost of this trial, maybe  by getting the money from movie rights?

From the beginning, Cindy stating "what did you do?" from 6-16-2011.
Then covering up by putting softy sheets in the car to try and cover the smell up.  By washing the clothes and trying to clean the trunk of the car.

If there wasn't a cover up, this case would of went to trial, 1-2 years ago.

I think all chances of going after the Anthonys were greatly diminished due to Cindy's "breakdown" on the stand.  She came across as very sympathetic to many and the state might feel they would look too bad going after them.  I would like to see them pay some price for all of their BS and money grubbing.

Also if I remember correctly, why did totmom give the life jacket and bag to Jesse G.?
Was this in the plan to frame him?

I can't imagine what the jury is comprehending, I can't keep all this stuff straight.

Speaking of the dryer sheets, I thought I heard Cindy say on the stand the other day that she did put a dryer sheet in the car, hoping it would help with the smell... but then yesterday I was watching video feed from (I think?) wftv, and the female commentator was saying that there is a dryer sheet in evidence that Casey put in there, showing that she did know that there was a smell in her car.  Which is it?  ::MonkeyEek::  (Both?) 

Also, I have a feeling all of those items - tobacco?, cheese, etc..  were all left in there in an effort to mask the smell.  Make it smell as much like a mixture of nasty a$$ foods and other items as possible, so that you might not know what you were smelling.

I figure the jury began this by thinking they were being punked or on Candid Camera.  Now after watching the videos I assume they are waiting for Rod Serling to show up.

It does in all actuality appear to be a cover-up but- could these have been the actions of a desperate, panicked woman who wasn't sure what to believe, as she had her crazed daughter telling her one thing and being in serious denial?

As a parent, you want to believe in your kids.

I can't fathom how these people functioned on a daily basis with that nut in the house.

Aside from all stress and grief this family has gone through (and continue to go through) I'll bet they are relieved she's out of the house.

The state intends to call an FBI agent and recall an Orange County Sheriff's Office crime scene investigator as the 10th day of the Casey Anthony trial begins this morning.


State prosecutors told Chief Judge Belvin Perry on Friday afternoon they intend to call FBI fiber examiner Karen Korsberg Lowe to discuss hairs found in the truck of Casey Anthony's car when court resumes at 9 a.m. on the 23rd floor of the Orange County Courthouse. Saturday sessions of the trial are a half-day, and court will recess at 1 p.m.

Justice for Caylee!!!

I was thinking about the progression of Casey's lies throughout the life and death of Caylee.
There have been rumors she lied in high school but after Caylee's Caylee's birth it sounds like she did actually work for a period of time.  Being generous with the first year of Caylee's life and estimating time frames, I figure it is something like this:

0-1 Casey actually had a job and there was a real babysitter

1-2 1/2  Casey pretened to work and that there was a nanny.  Was Caylee with G&C when she      
             talked about the nanny?  Doubt it b/c she also said her mom watched Caylee alot.

6/15 - 6/16 Caylee dies and Casey never returns home to live.  She continues telling everyone, including friends, that Caylee is with the nanny typically doing fun things.

7/15 (?) - Casey gets caughts, continues with the nanny having fun time w/ Caylee to Caylee being kidnapped.  Admits only after being caught with no other options and no place to run b/c Cindy would follow her.   ::MonkeySlide::

7/15 - up till we see no further jail videos of Casey speaking - continues with the Caylee is kidnapped story. Not only continues but embellishes the story with things to make her parents (who she knows is releasing info about Caylee to the media) continue to believe that Caylee is alive.  She is clearly wanting to continue this story, i.e., I believe in my heart she is alive. This is the point that the defense theory of ugly coping falls apart.  She is going to great lengths to continue a KIDNAPPING story regarding her daughter as she sits in jail.  Coping in a way that lands you in jail when there is an explanation that would set you free doesn't make sense.  Not when your coping story is such a negative one as your child is KIDNAPPED.  

December, i think  - Caylee's body is found.  The next time we hear from a Casey representative is in Court.  Her new explanation is Caylee drowned.

I can't be sure but I would think that a coping mechanism of denial and lies of the type that the defense is claiming, wouldn't be formed PRIOR to the event that caused the need for coping (an accidental death).  Furthermore - it is clear in the progression that what she did isn't coping but rather a continuation of lies that are morphed into new lies (growing, changing and being MODIFIED) to serve whatever purpose she needs them to serve.  I would imagine the whole concept of coping would be a self-serving one (not meaning that in a negative way but rather literal) but not to the extent that the ONLY purpose of each lie is to serve an agenda.  She made up really bad lies but never any lies that didn't further her purpose of covering her bottom.  

I know this is long and a lot of it is obvious but laying it out helps me put it in perspective for myself and I hope the jury will think in a similar fashion.

Good morning All!! With all the items from the trunk brought in to evidence yesterday, liner etc, i did not see the part where investigators could see the outline of a child in a fetal position. I know some of the items were wrapped in plastic so the items that have the "death smell" could still be revealed, right? I don't think the pros would risk something not having a smell, if they were planning on using that, they would know for sure that it still does. I am hoping they will pass that can around & pull out that stained piece of carpet & the entire courtroom will be filled with that horrible smell!! Maybe people will gag or run out of the courtroom!! Just hoping!!

I am worried that the people on the jury will not be able to keep all this information straight.  There is just SO much to hear and retain and sort and weigh.  I am not confident that many folks have the attention span required.
Maybe my concerns are due to my lack of any experience with court room proceedures, but I am really worried they may lose the 'big stuff' in all the details.

My husband (who is being forced to listen!) said a similar thing. Baez is not only stalling because he does not know what to do.  He is being a per day fee for the trial and his goal is to get paid until he is old enough to retire - and if he can keep this case going forever he gets paid forever.

Baez is renewing objections based on Frye Hearings, JBP is telling him he is kind of crazy and tells him why, has to do with a mini-Frye hearing, that is what they have Frye Hearings for.  Baez is trying to cite law but I can't understand him and I don't think the judge can either.  Something about a voir dire and a predicate.  JBP will just renew Baez's objections and it will be his previous rulings.  The state must lay a proper foundation.  If there is some problem they will voir dire her. The judge says I will just renew your objections.  Baez wants to voir dire the witness and JBP says well we had that at the Frye Hearing, so the simple answer to that is no.  Unless she testifies to something totally different than at the Frye Hearing about her qualifications at the Frye hearing, we have established that already.  Judge is trying to school Baez but it isn't working, JBP says you can maintain your objections but I have RULED!!!!!  JBP says we have wasted enough time.

FBI CSI for FBI Quantico, VA

BA in Science, Master's in Science, various courses.  Spent over a year in training with hair and fibers.  She was qualified as an examiner for 13 years.  She has been an expert at trials all over the country, most of her testimony is about microscopic trace evidence, mostly hair.

Baez doing brief voir Dire.

This is the first time you have ever testified on hair banding?  Yes.  Side Bar.......Side Bar over.....
The topics you are going to cover today in your testimony, it was a 6 month course?  Yes.  The courses that you have taken on this topic you are going to testify on today, was it 3?  Yes, the year long training had 3 just on hair.  The rest is on the job training?  Yes.  Sustained no further questions.
End of voir dire, she is an expert on trace evidence and hair.

Jeff Ashton is up..............

How long has trace and hair evidence been around? Late 1800's. Hair from the 1930's.  Hair is done in the steps, Collection, Comparison and Identification.  Hair is not like DNA, one hair can not be said to come from one hair but they can be excluded with different characteristics.  Microscopically hair can be examined to find out race, how they were taken, other characteristics.  Are there signs of decomp related to hair, yes the first papers were in 1988, hairs that showed hair in apparent decomp.  A decomp banding made of air spaces.  Post mortem root band seems to be between soft and hard carotene.  In 1998 there was another case study on this.  Another paper was done on this same thing.  Another paper a two part paper done by Lych, they used 22 samples for decomp, they saw root banding at 2 days, 4 days etc, etc.  Hair under all kinds of weather and circumstances.  These were taken from known decomposed bodies.  One of them was hair taken from live hairs to see if they would get the same banding, they did not.  Does the research show what causes the post mortem decomp banding, no it just shows the banding.  Jeff is going to use a chart with this witness, the witness will step down to the chart.  The chart shows different Human Hair Roots and pictures of them, microscopically. 

Using the chart, Jeff asks her to explain the chart, antigen is active growth stage, the hair cuticle reacts with the internal root sheath.  They are shed before death and show no root banding.  The only hairs that we see with root banding is antigen hair, hairs still growing out of the head.  Decamp hair is tapered and can be hardened and come to a point.  The appearance of decamp can not be replicated by any known process other than decamp.  Shows four examples of apparent decamp root banding.

Witness is taking the stand again.  Done with the chart.  Is it a mathematically precise process, no it is a visual process, although they have found some math related, just not a standard yet.  When your doing an examination of a hair, are you looking at the hair in 2D or 3D.  She is looking at the hair through 3D.  She has hairs in a reference collection to compare hairs to.  They use known hair examples.  Guesstimate of decomp hairs over 2000 cases is a fair number, doesn't even want to guess at the number.  When you have seen decomp banding, where they already known to be of dead people?  Yes.  How frequently have you seen post mortem banding?  Yes.  Were you provided hair in the Caylee Anthony case?  Yes.  Showing her items.  She is shown a sample and recognizes it with her lab markings, shown another and recognizes it, shown another and recognizes it, shown another and recognizes it, shown another and recognizes it, shown another and recognizes it, shown another and recognizes it, shown another and recognizes it.  Where you given certain items from known individuals?  Yes.  Shows her item, she recognizes it, shows her another item, she recognizes it.  Shows another item and she recognizes it, from Cindy Anthony.  Shown another item and she recognizes it, from George Anthony.  Were you also submitted a hair brush as a purported hair brush and comb from Caylee Anthony.  She is shown a purported hair brush from Caylee Anthony and recognizes it.  She is shown a purported comb from Caylee Anthony and recognizes it.  How many hairs did you find from these items.  She is referring to notes.  At least 11 or more hairs.  In any of the hairs did you find any that showed decomp?  Yes, one did, Q-12.  Shows her Q-12, state exhibit 99.  the hair is a Caucasian hair that had a post mortem dark band.  She examined it with a stereo microscope and another microscope in 3d.  It was 9 inches long, light brown.  She compared it to a sample from Casey and Caylee, it did not compare to Casey's but it did compare to a hair from Caylee's hair brush.  She concluded they were similar.  Based upon that examination do you have an opinion that the hair in Q-12 had apparent decomp?  Yes.  Has that ever been found under other circumstances?  No, only decomp has been shown to show that root banding.  She re-mounted the hair and sent it to another lab.  Showing her another exhibit, she is opening with scissors.  She recognizes it as the portion of Q-12 that she sent for Mitro DNA.  Introducing that into evidence.  Why do you use the word apparent decomp?  Because that has not yet been shown to be replicated under any other circumstance so they still use the word apparent to be scientific.

Baez is pleasing the court.......

This goes back to the 1930's in the FBI Labs? People still have hair but the science has changed?  Yes.  What has changed is the FBI's position?  There have numerous trials.  Baez is asking stupid questions, I can't understand they are Sustained.  You have read reports organized by Congress, that is respected, is it not? She doesn't know how to answer.......going to side bar.  I am having a hard time typing for Baez, he is not making sense, so I can't type it by ear, lol.

Do we know who the duhfense witnesses are? I can't imagine what they've got that could make the jurors forget about all the forensics and credible witnesses the prosecution has. The thought makes me nervous.

You raise a very good point.  Simms was brought on as she has her "Dr in a Box" where she has foreign Dr's listening to testimony and giving points to question and attack.  I have not seen anything indicating they are using this. 

Dufense has brought the Eikelenbooms from Holland to speak to touch DNA. The other expert that only read things (sorry I cannot remember him from the Frye hearings) that is a scholar rather than a expert to refute Dr Vass, but no one to challenge the hair death bands.

I never wear shoes around the house, but what is with Casey taking off her shoes?  Hmmmm, remember the crazy lady with the outburst during jury selection, she had her shoes off!  Is Casey trying to show that she has similar problems by taking her shoes off in court, because that is certainly not a "normal" thing to do???  I think this is really odd........

To be technical, the witness said that it is "apparent" from a dead body. That while they haven't seen it from anything other than deceased bodies, they cannot conclusively say it was "only" from a dead body. Why Baez didn't jump all over that, I do not know.

I hope it is not lost on the jury (when they return) that Baez on one hand says George put Caylee in the car, yet is arguing whether Caylee was ever in the car. He argues every single thing.

Casey had a black binder in her lap. She just closed it and put it on the desk.

In the past hearings and at jury selection, Casey wore black ballet type shoes with white socks.  I often wondered if the socks would make the shoes to tight but because it is 'cold' in the room she wear socks.  At one point in the past, JB, made a comment that Casey's feet swelled from sitting so long.  That is what I saw and remembered.

According to my records, Karen Lowe is the State's #34^th witness. I think Linda said they would call 47 or 49 and be done at the end of next week.

Looks like they are right on schedule to me, even if they spend all day with Karen Lowe.

I am willing to bet this case will be over in the 8 weeks that Judge Perry has scheduled for it.

My guess would be that the hair samples from the duct tape were so disintegrated the banding would be long gone. I am guessing that banding is only specific to a certain length of time.

...and whether that would be granted remains to be seen.

I was listening to the talking heads on TV who were attorneys and all of them said that would be her last resort for an appeal because of the number of the other attorneys. They all agreed bozo was is doing a terrible job, but because the judge has asked her on more than one occasion on the record if she was satisfied with her counsel this would never work in an appeals court.

From what I gather, not all post mortem hair shows the decomp banding. Finding it is fairly rare. On the other hand, hair with that type of banding has never been found from a live person's hair, so far. And it hasn't been replicated by other means although some tests may have partially mimiced the banding.

Spectators told me that a fight almost broke out at 530am when 2 women tried to cut in ticket line. Check YouTube for vid.

I think I figured out why KC let her hair grow........the sample from the trunk with postmortem hair banding analyzed was 9 inches long. She prob thinks the jurors will think it might be KC's hair. BUT, hair expert stated the hair was not consistent with KC's.......Fail

Linda Kenny Baden. She was on the defense team early on for the purpose of forensic science. You may have seen her husband on various News Networks. He's a well known Forensic Physician, often compared to Henry Lee as one of two really Big Guns in the field.

Dr. G's report does not state it was placed there PRIOR to death, it states it was placed there prior to decomposition.

They need to rethink the procedure how the public is getting tickets, for one disabled persons are at a disadvantage & also it could very well result in an injury.  It would be much more fair to do it by number & a random drawing.

This was over ten years ago! I suspect many of these jurors might have even failed their first driving test (happens often) and they might give her a pass.
