“Lauren! Lauren!” pierced the backwoods silence of Hoosier State Park, in the Lake Monroe area and more.

Family members descended on greater Bloomington looking for missing I.U. student Lauren Spierer, a 20-year-old last seen 4:30 a.m. Friday.

Witnesses say she was walking from 11th Street toward her apartment building at 8th and College Avenue -- she was 3 blocks away and vanished. Police say she wasn’t wearing shoes after a night out. Family also tells 24 Hour News 8 she has a heart condition and needs her meds.

The description of how/where she was walking doesn't make much sense unless she was going somewhere besides her apartment:

OK, so the friend party must have been up towards 11th street.  She was walking south on 11th street towards her apartment but never got as far as her apartment.

Family requests more volunteers to help search for missing woman

Yes, thanks Red and Klaasend for being the Super Monkeys that you are, for really jumping on this. Now lets pray for some positive news soon for the family.

Something doesn't feel right.

1.  She goes to Kilroys which is right near her apartment
2.  She leaves Kilroys (probably when it closed) and goes to a friends party (likely near 11th and College)
3.  She leaves her phone and purse at either Kilroys or the friends but neither makes sense
4.  NOTE:  she has a heart condition and is of slight build


Could something have happened to her at the party of the friends and they panicked?  Who saw her walking down 11th? 

I need to call it a night.  I'll pray they find her by morning safe. 

Get some good rest, an intense week of casey and company coming up.

Many prayers for the safe return of this beautiful young woman.

Strange that she wasn't wearing shoes walking the streets to go home.  I wouldn't walk barefoot anywhere on a dirty street.  Maybe outside my home in the grass and stuff but not on a street.  Now, if I was wasted I might shed my shoes but I don't know.  Maybe they were high heels and the walk was rough.  Do the friends say if she was tipsy or not?

It hasn't been mentioned if she was drinking.  Of course, she's 20 and under age so maybe that's why.  She was at a bar then at a friends house/party so my guess would be YES, she was drinking.  As far as barefoot, the bar she was at has like a sand/beach/pool outdoor area and normal for people not to wear shoes in THAT area.  Also curious is it's not clear if her purse and PHONE was found at the BAR or at the friends house.

Fashion Student Lauren Spierer Missing From Indiana University Since Friday

Search parties fanned out today looking for an Indiana Univesity student with a dangerous heart condition who has been missing for four days.

Lauren Spierer is a pint-sized student who weighs less than 100 pounds and is 4-foot-11 and had just completed her sophomore year at the school's Bloomington campus.

She was last seen at about 4:30 a.m. on Friday morning walking to her apartment. The Indiana Daily Student reports that Spierer was at Kilroy's Sports Bar Thursday night and then at a friend's party. She was last seen at the intersection of 11th Street and College Avenue. Surveillance footage from her apartment at Smallwood Plaza shows that she never came home.

Her keys were found a block away from where she was last seen, but there have been no other traces of the missing student.

BLOOMINGTON, IN (WAVE) - An Indiana University student who just finished her sophomore year has disappeared and the search is on to find her. It's been three days since 20-year-old Lauren Spierer vanished in Bloomington. Monday, dozens of volunteers came out to help find her. Police believe she may still be in the Bloomington area, but people in the peaceful college town fear the worst.

Spierer does suffer from a heart condition that requires medication. If she is found, Spierer needs to be taken to the hospital immediately.

On Monday, Bloomington Police said that foul play is suspected in the disappearance of Indiana University student Lauren Spierer. Police did not provided any details, or give any reason as to why they suspect foul play at this time.

"It is not impossible that she has left on her own and gone somewhere, but at this point we feel it is unlikely," said Lt. Bill Parker of the Bloomington Police Department. "We feel there has been some sort of foul play."

Family, friends and even strangers joined in the search Monday morning for Spierer. The 20-year-old was last seen early Friday morning, walking south on College Avenue from 11th Street towards her apartment building at Smallwood, which is located near 8th and College.

Spierer's cell phone and shoes were recovered from Kilroy's, a local bar in Bloomington where they have a sand pit (hence the reason she may not have been wearing shoes). Her ID was found at her apartment and her roommate turned it over to police.

I just wanted you all to know that the ids is posting everything they know. The BPD is not being very cooperative with the IDS and not releasing enough information (in my opinion) to the public. Like, for instance, where Lauren was between 3:00 am and 4:30 am. They will not comment on this. They haven't even officially confirmed that she was at Kilroy's Sports. They basically are not telling the press anything. Such as: who saw her last, where they found her phone, wallet, etc. I am ashamed of the BPD. They also told Lauren's parents to go search Lake Monroe but did not assist in the search and a Bloomington native who happened upon the parents had to show them where Lake Monroe was. They are not from here and did not even know how to get there! You would think the BPD could have at least assisted them in this trying time

OK, I am freaked out by these statistics. I think the high degree of crime (Rape!) in Bloomington is not something generally known by people looking at colleges for their kids.

In April of 2006 my daughter was raped at Indiana University in Bloomington Indiana.  The man who raped her was permitted to live on her coed floor in spite of serial offenses, the first being the felony battery of a male student 7 months prior to raping my daughter. 7 weeks before he raped my daughter he was transported by campus police for psychological evaluation for disturbing and violent speech, after a few days of observation he was returned to the coed floor the University assigned our 18 year-old to live on. (Not disclosing it in our housing contract)  The US dept of Justice research report states that 20-25% of all college women will be raped during their college carreers. Armed with this knowledge Indiana University does not have sexual assault awareness programs that incoming freshman must attend.  Their campus police who have sole jurisdiction did not have specialized training and did not even do basic police work like preserve physical evidance. Torn clothes and bed sheets were not collected.The rapist was suspended for less than one year, he was never charged with anything and there was no validation given to the victim.  After exhaustive investigation I have learned that there is a systemic indifference to rape on college campuses.  Administrators talk the talk but do not walk the walk. No Enforcment is the norm. No effort to make women understand the risks and no enforcement equals a nirvana for predators.  We often do not factor in the reason women do not come forward is that even today in the University setting this crime is swept under the rug.  Women are sent the distructive message that nothing will be done to the predator and you will go looking for another school or continue to be subjected to your attacker as my daughter was.

You are right to remind victims that the era of victim blaming must come to an end. It is true that in 75% of rapes alcohol is involved. Women should take note of this fact but it no way does it excuse the predator. Often University officials intimidate the victim not to pursue the offender if she was drinking as she could be charged with illegal alcohol possession if the offense occured in student housing or on campus.

Advise from a caring mother goes like this, let no one take away your happiness. The victim is never to blame not in any crime espically a sexual assault  Report this crime to Police and do not be intimidated. If you need help as a victim of campus rape or sexual assault go to www.securityoncampus.org. They can help you pursue your attacker and work with campus police and administrators.

Does Indiana University have a sexual assault awareness program now?  It's good that it has campus police, but they have to be trained.  I would call the police; they might take it more seriously.

I am really mad about this. Bloomington has seen a dramatic increase in violent crime, rape numbers are astounding. Along with many RSO living there also. I wonder how many parents know this when looking at IU for their kids? None of my friends who toured the campus had any clue. From doing searches on crime in Bloomington, there is a consistent theme of blaming the victim in assaults and rapes and sweeping things under the rug. A lot of businesses and jobs depend upon Indiana U. Are the students given serious warnings about their safety? Are there patrol cars on College Ave though the night? BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The father of Lauren Spierer, the Indiana University student who has been missing since June 3, described his daughter as full of life and pleaded with the public to keep helping in the search for her.

Robert Spierer was stoic as he thanked community members and police for an onslaught of support in the days since the disappearance of Lauren, 20.

"She's full of life, always on the go, fun to be with, had a very large circle of friends, both boys and girls. She's the kind of person that would spend time volunteering," Spierer said.

Bloomington police Lt. Bill Parker said the search for Spierer began Friday afternoon, less than 12 hours after she was last seen, and that either foul play or a medical condition could be involved. She is 4 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 90-95 pounds.

Investigators reconstructed the hours before Spierer's disappearance. She had been at Kilroy's, a sports bar and had been at a friend's apartment before deciding to walk to her home at Smallwood Plaza at about 4:30 a.m.

Police determined that one of the woman's male friends was the last to see her as she walked barefoot at the corner of 11th Street and College Avenue.

"We've been interviewing everybody that was with her," Parker said. "They've cooperated fully with letting us search their places, their cars."

Spierer has a heart condition and needs medication. She had also been drinking in the hours before her disappearance, officials said.

Police said Tuesday that there were no suspects, but they had "persons of interests" whom they would not name.

Meanwhile, dozens of volunteers gathered outside Spierer's apartment for the fourth straight day to continue their hunt through neighborhoods, woods, lakeside areas and construction sites near the campus.

Crews posted hundreds of "missing" posters around the area, and police had search dogs combing remote areas of Monroe County for any sign of the popular, petite blonde.

Members of the Bloomington Police Department are reportedly searching near the lobby inside Smallwood Plaza.

They are serving a search warrant and have broken down two doors to the right of the lobby of the apartment complex. They immediately began taking photos.

The two rooms are a mail room and a security room. So far, police have taken three computer hard drives and four CD cases.

Bloomington Police have removed two computer hard drives from rooms off of the lobby at Smallwood Plaza. Missing IU student Lauren Spierer lives at Smallwood Plaza.

An apartment complex resident told Fox59 News the hard drives contain security camera footage. Police said there's no evidence Lauren ever entered her apartment building Friday.

Police are continuing to search the apartment building looking for clues into her disappearance.

Bloomington Police have removed two computer hard drives from rooms off of the lobby at Smallwood Plaza where missing Lauren Spierer lives, Fox59 is reporting. Officers continue to search the apartment building looking for clues into her disappearance.

The first of four Bloomington Police cars with lights flashing arrived in the 800 block of College Avenue around 7:30 p.m., the report says. One officer was carrying a battering ram. An officer told Fox59 News that investigators were attempting to find a key to open an apartment.

At 8:25 p.m., police used the battering ram to knock down two doors near the lobby of the apartment building, according to Fox59.

Bloomington Police executed a search warrant at Smallwood Plaza, missing IU student Lauren Spierer's apartment complex, today at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Police stood inside the main doors to Smallwood Plaza and then used two battering rams to break open two doors immediately adjacent to the lobby as dozens of Smallwood residents and people walking by watched in shock.

According to several residents of Smallwood standing nearby, the two rooms that the police broke into were the security room and the mail room.

Once the doors had been broken open, police officers immediately began snapping pictures of the interior of the rooms.

Lt. Scott Oldham of the Bloomington Police Department confirmed that BPD was serving a search warrant for the two rooms, but would not comment on what the police were searching for.

BPD will discuss the warrant Wednesday morning during a press conference at the Bloomington Police Station.

Elizabeth, Natalee, Chandra, and now, sadly, Lauren. We all know their awful stories: Stolen from her bed in the middle of the night; a tragic turn over spring break; an internship full of promise then suspicion.

Now it’s a beautiful young woman, a ‘fashionista’ as her friends call her, who went out for a night of fun in a college town only to disappear just before dawn. Lauren Spierer is from Edgemont. She’s one of ours. And no one can find her. And it’s awful.

On Tuesday night, Scarsdale Synagogue held a Service of Hope in honor of Lauren and her family. Rabbis Klein and Gordon and Cantor Becker led the hundreds of friends and neighbors and former classmates in prayer and a chance for the community to join together in this difficult time.

Tonight I went with a close friend, my husband and daughter to a local synagogue for a community "Service of Hope" supporting Lauren and the Spierer family. Some of the inspirational words...

Kilroy’s Sports Bar is under investigation for serving underage Lauren Spierer the night she disappeared.

The popular bar on North Walnut Street could be cited for allowing a minor to loiter there and for selling alcoholic beverages to a minor, Indiana State Excise police officer Travis Thickstun said Tuesday. Video surveillance shows 20-year-old Spierer at the bar past midnight Friday. Assuming bouncers let her in without a valid ID, and that bartenders served her, Thickstun said the bar could face a monetary fine, several days’ suspension or a revoked permit.

But he said excise police won’t dig too far at this point, because “the most important thing right now is to find Lauren. We’re not going to get in the way of what Bloomington police are doing.”

And he said excise police don’t plan to increase their presence at Kilroy’s after the discovery, because their officers patrol downtown Bloomington bars already more than any other bars in the state. That includes once or twice weekly appearances at Kilroy’s, where officers check IDs and sometimes ticket underage people who try to come inside.

Great comments by a lot of people here. Its most likely the BPD issued the warrant AFTER they received the account of the male that was with her last. His account puts them outside, or possibly within Smallwood's vestibule, almost an hour before previous accounts. None of the news reports have quoted that the BPD actually viewed the surveillance cameras. It's possible that no one looked at the video between 2:30am- 2:40am (just after the bars actually close, and when the male said they left.) The BPD issued the warrant, then went and recovered all the video to survey it themselves. The parents were called in, most likely to ID her on the video, before they took it.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) - “We don’t have any big breaking news on the case. I wish we did,” said Bloomington Police Lt. Bill Parker as he updated the media Tuesday on the search for Lauren Spierer.

Officers seized computers Tuesday while executing a search warrant on her apartment building. Parker said those computers contained surveillance footage of Lauren leaving the building with people he described as acquaintances.

Perhaps the biggest details Parker offered Wednesday were that police found “items of value” in their search for clues and evidence in the case. He also indicated that polygraph tests were given to acquaintances.

“I don’t have anybody that we could characterize as a suspect,” Parker said.

OK something obviously seems suspect there. When 4 police cars arrive, an employee had strict orders to refuse opening the door in question? Drugs, peeping on tenants? Many photos were taken of the room or rooms. I wonder if they put police tape up to prevent entry after police left.

My daughter lives in Smallwood. I sent her a prescription via Next Day Air UPS so she could start taking her medication right away. The management team would not allow her to pick up the package until 4pm (it didn't arrive early enough for the 9:00 pick up). I tried to talk to the asst. manager, the manager and tracked down the management company and got no where. We have found they have terrible customer service. If we could do it over again, we would have her live in the dorms.

This sounds about right. I had a large package of food sent to me by my grandparents on a Thursday and I didn't have the time to get the package until Monday at 10. I even told them that it's a box of (now rotting) grapefruits but they still wouldn't get off their lazy asses to get the package. To avoid this, send a package via USPS ONLY, that way it's placed into your private mailbox and you can pick it up at your leisure.

Do not sign a lease here!!!! I did and have regretted it more and more every month. The management is horrible and will not assist you in a decent way unless you are forking over cash without hesitation. As soon as you disagree about something they turn on you. No customer service. EVERYTHING is extra and they keep the cameras watching you all the time. They truly only care about money. I know that they are a business and that's what they do but to the extent that they do it is ridiculous. If you must sign here, READ your contract and try and change it around because you WILL get charged for something you didn't even knew existed. I say only rich kids that dont give a hoot will stay for a second year. NOT the place to live!

Anytime I call the rental office, all that I get is rudeness and hostility. I have been hung-up on twice by mangement (including one time by the regional manager), which really doesn't say much about their customer service. In my opinion, if Smallwood Plaze treats all residents in this manner, why would anyone choose to live there'

The building is brand new and well kept. Each room has a high speed data port, cable outlet and plenty of AC plugs. Kitchen is fully furnished and larger units have a washer/dryer. However, the management staff are the worst people ever. If you have a problem, they're not going to help you and they make it very obvious that they don't care about you, just your money. If you can deal with that, you'll enjoy it, otherwise, DONT MOVE IN!

She was alone, and the male friend was the last person to see her, Parker said.

"The acquaintance watched her walk away, because she said she wanted to go home and he watched her to make sure she was making it all right," Parker said.

Cops were using polygraph tests during interviews with the man, as well as several other unidentified "associates and acquaintances."

Sorry hit post. Assuming LE doesn't consider this man a POI, So this male friend watched her walk down the street but didn't go with her? Who would be out at that time of night and see a girl walking by herself? Creepy, like he was just waiting until the time was right.

Hmmm.  Something doesn't sound right about this statement:

Frankly, I just couldn't imagine either of my sons (one in grad school, the other in  second year college) not escorting a female home.  Even if she tried to decline and say it was alright, I know they would insist on getting her home and in the door.  It wouldn't be enough to "watch her to make sure she was making it alright"  That part "watched her to make sure she was making it alright" sounds like she may have been impaired.  Does that mean he was checking to see if she was staggering or falling down?  I mean, geesh.  How far could he see her walk from where he was?  Maybe he had nothing to do with her disappearance, but to me he missed an opportunity to help a young lady stay safe from the sounds of things.  She may have been grabbed simply because someone saw the opportunity.   ::MonkeyNoNo::  JMHO

Missing IU student Lauren Spierer was seen in an altercation on Smallwood surveillance video obtained by the police, Lauren’s father Robert Spierer told The Journal News.

“My daughter and these other boys are on the video. There was an altercation between the boy my daughter was with and some boys here at Smallwood,” Robert Spierer said.

Bloomington Police officers have confirmed that Lauren was seen with a male acquaintance the night she disappeared. She left Kilroy’s Sports Bar at 2:30 a.m. Friday morning and briefly returned to the Smallwood Apartment Complex — where the altercation took place — before leaving to go to another friend’s apartment complex at 11th and Morton Streets.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Video footage from security cameras at Lauren Spierer’s apartment building show her and several men in an argument the morning she disappeared.

“My daughter and these other boys are on the video,” Spierer’s father, Robert, said Wednesday.

“There was an altercation between the boy my daughter was with and some boys here at Smallwood,” he said, referring to his daughter’s apartment building, Smallwood Plaza, in Bloomington.

Spierer vanished early Friday after a long night of partying with friends. The 20-year-old fashion student at Indiana University grew up in Westchester County, N.Y.

Bloomington police said Spierer and a male companion were seen leaving a nearby bar about 2:30 a.m. and entering her building, just a few hundred yards away.

Smallwood’s security cameras caught the pair leaving the building about 10 minutes later, but police have not described  what else the video shows.

If the apartment she left at 4:30 am with the unnamed male watching her walk away then maybe he is telling the truth and the boys she had and altercation with happen to see her on the street and nabbed her or they were waiting to pounce on her when she came back that way.  I hope LE can identify them and talk to them.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Three of Lauren Spierer's closest high school friends drove 12 hours from Greenburgh and began their search for the missing Indiana University sophomore minutes after they pulled into the city last night.

Operating on just a couple of hours sleep each night since their friend went missing Friday, they felt the only way they could be useful was if they came here to help find her.

"We didn't feel right sitting around at home," said John An, 20, who shared driving duties with fellow Edgemont High School graduates Jonathan Reback, 20, and Frank Merante, 21. "We have hope, mixed with urgency."

At this point, they refuse to entertain anything other than positive thoughts, even as they search the fields and wooded areas that could turn up a grim discovery.

"We wouldn't be here if we didn't think we could make a difference," said Merante. "We're three more sets of eyes, and we have a different viewpoint."

After driving around remote areas of the city Tuesday night, then sleeping in a friend's apartment, they awoke at 7 a.m. and resumed their search hours before the larger, organized efforts began. They they joined hundred this afternoon who met at Spierer's apartment building, before heading out again in the sweltering heat.

"We all stink, we all feel like (expletive)," Reback said. "But none of us care."

They all befriended Spierer in high school.

They said they plan to stay in Bloomington until she's found.

"We're here because we will find her," Merante said.

"The only scenario we're thinking about is finding her," said An, who attends IU.

"We will cover every single inch of earth," said Reback, who went to the senior prom with Spierer. "No rock will be left unturned before we leave."

Merante made a fresh appeal for others to join the search.

"I want every local person who can put out the time to come out and help us," he said.

I wonder what the altercation was about? Why didn't the apartment manager want the tape viewed by police? Something is strange about that place and all of that. My money is on the boys who fought with them, they waited until the pair returned, only he didn't go with her?

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The student who was with Lauren Spierer in the hours before her disappearance has no memory of their last moments together, his lawyer told The Journal News on Wednesday night.

Corey Rossman, Spierer’s companion early Friday, was punched in the face after the two returned to her apartment building, Smallwood Plaza.

“At Smallwood, someone confronted them,” his lawyer, former Monroe  County District Attorney Carl Salzmann said.

“He got punched in the face. He has no memory of that, or of the 15 minutes leading to that moment. The first memory he has is the next morning when he wakes up in his bed, and that’s collaborated by several people.”

Police have said Spierer was with the student — who they have not identified — at a nearby bar and that the two were seen on videotape returning to her residence about 2:30 a.m. They then left the building about 10 minutes later, police said.

“She was helping him home at that point,” Salzmann said, because Rossman had been punched.

The two then went to a building complex up the street, where Rossman lives. Police have said she visited two apartments there. Salzmann said there was another “confrontation” that morning at Rossman’s building, but he would not elaborate.

Spierer was last seen rounding a corner on her way back to her apartment — a half mile away — at about 4:15 a.m. Salzmann said Rossman was not the last one to see Spierer that morning; three or four others saw her after Rossman.

Asked what he thinks happened to Spierer, he said, “I have my theory.
“I hope they follow all the leads we’ve given.”

BLOOMINGTON - Eyewitness News has learned that police are now searching Lake Monroe for 20 year old Lauren Spierer.The Monroe County Sheriff's Department says its dive team is searching at the request of Bloomington Police.

That search will likely resume Thursday morning, after crews spent hours in the water Wednesday evening.

As the search went on Wednesday night, there came word of possible new answers in the disappearance of the missing IU student.

A suburban New York newspaper reported that security video police seized from the Smallwood apartments where Lauren lives, may reveal new information about what happened the night she was last seen. The newspaper in Westchester County reported that Lauren's father told them that the surveillance video shows an altercation between the male acquaintance Lauren was with that night and other boys in the building.

But in an interview with the Today Show, Robert Spierer strongly denies the newspaper's story.

In fact, he says he's never even seen the surveillance video.

Investigators believe Lauren's disappearance is a result of foul play.
They're now talking to the acquaintances who saw her last, verifying their stories.

"We're working on the polygraphs now,"  Lt. Bill Parker said in a news conference Wednesday morning.

Eyewitness News has learned Sheriff's department dive teams used boats and sonar to search Lake Monroe Wednesday night, at the request of Bloomington Police. They'll likely be back on the water Thursday.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) - Bloomington Police Department had little to say Thursday at its daily update on the search for missing Indiana University student Lauren Spierer.

Bloomington Lt. Bill Parker said the department is receiving a lot of information, but wouldn’t get into details about the case. Parker wouldn’t name names of people the department was speaking to or putting through lie detectors.

Parker also wouldn’t address media reports that a student Spierer was with was punched while the two were together.

“Lauren was not involved in the altercation,” Parker said, continually emphasizing he wouldn’t comment further.

The search continues for Spierer, who has been missing since 4:30 a.m. Friday. On Thursday, Parker said officials haven’t narrowed the search to a particular area.

“We’re still needing to look pretty much everywhere,” Parker said.

Lauren's father, Robert Spierer, continued thanking people and urging them to continue to help with the search for his daughter on Thursday. He said the family is now offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to Lauren's safe return.

According to reports, Lauren Spierer's companion on the last night she was seen, has no memory his last moments with her. At some point, Corey Rossman, Spierer's companion Friday evening, was punched in the face after the two had returned to the Smallwood Plaza apartments.

In an interview, former Monroe County District Attorney Carl Salzmann who is representing Rossman, stated that at around 2:40 am Friday Rossman and Spierer were involved in a confrontation with another group of young people. At some point during the altercation Rossman was struck. It was at that point, according to Salzmann, that Rossman and Spierer left and returned to his apartment. Spierer was last scene leaving the apartment building at 4:30 am, heading back to her own apartment.

Salzmann went on to say that Rossman, who is from Sharon, Massachusetts, was not involved in Spierer's disappeance and that he was cooperating with the police. However, Salzman stated "there is a lot more to this," alluding to the conditions that lead up to the initial confrontation. Salzmann said he has provided additional information to the Bloomington Police.

Meanwhile, Spierer's mother said the family is offering a $100,000 reward. Charlene Spierer told FOX 59 News Thursday morning that the reward is for any information that leads to the safe return of Lauren.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) - The student with Lauren Spierer before her disappearance was punched in the face and says he doesn’t remember parts of the night, a lawyer tells a New York newspaper.

Attorney Carl Salzmann told the The Journal News that his client, Corey Rossman, was punched in the face after he and Spierer returned to Smallwood Plaza, where Spierer lived.

Bloomington police have said Spierer was seen on camera with a friend entering and leaving the apartment building around 2:30 a.m. The student’s attorney said Spierer was helping his client home when the security camera caught them leaving the building.

Salzmann also said his client doesn’t remember being punched in the face or the 15 minutes leading up to the apparent altercation. The attorney maintains Rossman had no involvement in Spierer’s disappearance.

In a statement released late Thursday, McRobbie said he and Provost Karen Hanson have pledged IU will do all it can to help find out what has happened.

It seems like a false lead to focus on Corey. After Leaving Smallwood with Corey assaulted,  Lauren "escorted" Corey to his apt. where he passed out til the next morning. I could believe he was blackout drunk. Then she went to another apt. in the same building or complex where there were multiple friends. One of which is the one who watched her head back to Smallwood. In that next 5 minutes she was abducted. It seems hard to believe that something happened in the multiple friends apt, someone would have confessed by now. It goes back to something sinister at Smallwood or a coincidental abduction by some creep.

What about traffic cameras at stoplights? To remove Lauren from the area and drive at that hour the police would be looking at every car. Just had a horrible feeling she is in one of the apts in Smallwood. Is there a parking garage attached?

New details have come out regarding the altercation that took place shortly before the disappearance of 20-year-old IU student Lauren Spierer.

Fox59 reports Spierer returned to the apartment building with her friend Corey Rossman after leaving Kilroy's Sports Bar at 2:30 last Friday morning. Rossman was in the fifth floor lobby when he was punched in the face by a friend of Spierer's boyfriend Jesse Wolff.
 
Witnesses say Spierer and Rossman left the building and went to Rossman's apartment nearby where they stayed until Spierer left around 4:30, the last time she was seen.
 
Rossman's attorney Carl Salzmann tells The Journal News in Westchester, New York that after the two arrived at Rossman's apartment, his roommate put Rossman to bed. Rossman says he woke up with no knowledge of the events of the night before.
 
"The first memory he has is the next morning when he wakes up in his bed, and that's corroborated by several people," Salzmann told The Journal News.
 
Bloomington Police say they have persons of interest in the case but would not say who or how many. Police have searched Rossman's apartment and car as well as his credit card and cell phone records. Salzmann would also not say if his client was a person of interest but that Rossman is cooperating with police.
 
"The difference between a person of interest or a suspect, I've never been able to quite figure out what that is," Salzmann said.
 
Meanwhile, friends of Spierer say that Wolff has not been part of the search team because he was told he couldn't.
 
"He really had nothing to do with this. If anything, he was the first person to be concerned by the fact that he hadn't heard from her," Sarah Gorman says.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) - As the search for Lauren Spierer continues, so does the outpouring of financial support - and the controversy.

"Whoever harmed her should be put in prison, and I'm offering $25,000 for information," said Bloomington Attorney Ken Nunn.

He also expressed frustration that the city didn’t have its own surveillance cameras at traffic intersections and is instead having to rely on private businesses’ security systems.

Police on Tuesday night used a battering ram to break in doors to security rooms at Smallwood Plaza, where Spierer lives, to obtain computers with surveillance footage on them.

And Carl Salzmann, the lawyer of one of the students who was with Spierer the night she disappeared said police contacted him on Saturday requesting to view surveillance footage from outside his downtown Bloomington office.

Still, police have said they have little information to release .

"I'm sorry that we don't have surveillance cameras in every intersection,” he said Thursday. “I mentioned it to them in 2006, and they said Bloomington doesn't need surveillance cameras."

Such municipal cameras could've helped authorities find out what happened to Spierer, 20, missing since the early morning hours of June 3.

BLOOMINGTON - As searchers canvassed Bloomington again Thursday night in the Lauren Spierer disappearance, Eyewitness News caught up with childhood friends of the Indiana University student.  They just flew in from out of town to find information, help with the search, and hope for a break in the case.

"It's just absolutely frightening to me,"  said Becca Leskowitz, Lauren's friend.  "Anything that's moving forward is something because someone knows something. She didn't just disappear into thin air. She's somewhere."

Potential new leads are going out from Smallwood Plaza, where Lauren lives.  The apartments require key cards for entry.   That security data could be key for Bloomington police.

"We have more than 4,000 key swipes in the 48 hours surrounding her disappearance," said Smallwood spokesperson Ernie Reno.  Reno says they offered that information to police right away, as soon as Lauren was reported missing, but didn't get a response.

Now, after reaching out to investigators again Thursday, police say they want the data.  Smallwood plans to deliver that information to police Friday morning.

"It's one more piece to the puzzle, and whether or not Lauren had her card at that time, we don't know, but perhaps someone else did that may have been with her or whatever, and we can track it that way, so we're hopeful that something will be found,"  Reno said.

My Johnny Cochran alarm is going off. Corey Rossman's lawyer is too slick. A roommate put Rossman to bed and he doesn't remember anything? Yet, other stories say he is the one who saw her on the street at 4:30 am and watched her head for home.

Take away what Corey Rossman and the lawyer say and you have Lauren last seen for sure, on video,  in the lobby of her apartment building with Corey Rossman. Both were drunk. He got in a fight. Her keys and other items were found a few blocks north, in the direction of Corey Rossman's apartment building.  Were there witnesses at the so-called party? Who were they? Were they also drunk?

I hate this lawyer: says Corey Rossman can't remember because of getting punched in the face. Earlier reports say his friends say he was in an alcoholic blackout. Lawyer is a former prosecutor. Looks like family got the best lawyer they could get, in a hurry. Why?

Police have no suspects in the disappearance of missing Indiana University student Lauren Spierer, but said today that her long time boyfriend is one of 10 persons of interest.

"We continue to speak with him. He's cooperative," said Bloomington Police Lt. Bill Parker at a press conference.

Spierer, 20, has been missing for a week. She disappeared after partying with friends at a sports bar.

Spierer's friends say that the missing student and her boyfriend have a loving relationship. The unidentified young man, also a student at Indiana University, was one of the first to become alarmed when Spierer didn't return his text messages on June 3.

"He really cares about her. Lauren was his life, his number one priority. He would never do anything to hurt her," said Hadar Tamir, Spierer's roommate.

After returning Rossman to his apartment, Spierer left for another friend's apartment. That friend saw her walk towards her own apartment at about 4:30 a.m. last Friday. The pint-sized student who weighs less than 100 pounds and is 4-foot-11 was last seen three blocks from her apartment.

Surveillance video also shows Lauren in an alley walking with an acquaintance on the morning she disappeared. The alley is the same place where her keys and coin purse were found by authorities.

Bloomington police Lt. Bill Parker provided a few new nuggets of information in a news conference Friday morning, the fifth since Spierer's disappearance on June 3.

"We continue to speak with him. He's cooperative," Parker said, referring to Spierer's boyfriend, adding "certainly" when he was asked if the boyfriend is a person of interest.

There are a couple of people Parker said police want to interview, but they haven't received return phone calls. Parker stressed that there are no suspects in the case.

"We don't have anybody that we characterize as a suspect at this time," he said.

Both police and volunteer searchers continue to comb Bloomington and surrounding areas in search of Spierer, but they said they haven't found anything of significance.

Police conducted a checkpoint at 11th Street and College Avenue on Friday, looking for people who regularly drive through the area who might have seen anything related to Spierer's disappearance.

Her boyfriend looks like a nice guy but I have to admit, I look at the pic and to me he is "possessing her" His hands are on her in a way that shows everyone, she is his. I find it very odd Corey was hit in the face by one of Lauren's boyfriends friend. Who was that and why did he punch the guy? Was it for his friend? How did the boyfriend feel that his girlfriend wanted to help Corey home?

I have to agree with the whole changing story of Corey though and the time frame of his memory loss, sounds strange.

The picture's gone now but the fb page is still there. Yes, he is "possessing" her -- good way to put it. I thought the same thing. I thought he looked slimy, not nice, but then no one looks like Robert Redford any more. He is from NY. Did they know each other before college? Is he the reason she went to IU?

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) - One of the people with IU student Lauren Spierer the night she disappeared has submitted to police requests for a DNA sample.

24-Hour News 8's Jay Hermacinski confirmed Friday that Corey Rossman voluntarily supplied a DNA sample. We've also learned other "persons of interest" have been asked to give samples as well.

24-Hour News 8 contacted Bloomington police department about the DNA sample collections. We have not heard back.

Did he graduate this spring? Why is he still in Bloomington? Has he known her since high school? Did he not want to leave her at IU to have fun while he moved on to get a job? Did the friends at the apartment building tell him where Lauren had gone? Was he waiting for her in a car when she headed home?

People reveal a lot about themselves in their fb profiles. Another guy might have closed the page entirely when Lauren went missing. This guy is flaunting his role in the story.

Good questions. He may have nothing to do with this at all, that pic did stand out to me. His arms are around her, with one hand on her rump and one blocking her front, it just says to me this is mine. It doesn't say, "I love this woman, I respect her, I care for her and and I care about her". I bet if he had a lawyer he would tell the boy to take that pic down.

Corey seems as though he is fully cooperating with everything. At this time I am not thinking he did anything to her. Just not setting off that hinkey meter

Corey might be just an ordinary drinking college student, kind of hapless, doesn't know trouble when it bites him. His choice of attorney is unfortunate.

Maybe Lauren dropped her keys when boyfriend, who had been lurking and watching for her, pulled up and grabbed her and dragged her into his car. Cops don't know whether she lost the keys on the way to the apartment or on her way home from the apartment. I think she lost them on the way home; even drunk she probably wouldn't head home at that hour (no apartment staff on duty to let her in) if she had earlier lost her keys; she would just crash where she was.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Nobel winners and award-winning business and music schools attract some of the world's brightest students to Indiana University. A reputation as one of the nation's top party schools attracts others.

Into this mix walked Lauren Spierer, a bubbly 20-year-old from Greenburgh, N.Y., with a flair for fashion who friends say was drawn to IU because she liked the school spirit and big campus. Spierer went missing last week after drinking with friends at one of the town's most popular bars. She was last seen walking home alone.

Her disappearance highlights the danger drinking can present in college towns and calls to mind similar cases from elsewhere. Wisconsin police have never made an arrest in the 2007 slaying of 22-year-old Kelly Nolan, who disappeared after a night of bar-hopping near the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her body was found weeks later in a ditch south of the city.

Male students at Iowa State University, Middlebury College in Vermont and the University of California, Riverside also have gone missing after drinking, although in those cases their deaths were ruled accidental.

As police and volunteers continue their search for Spierer, questions have swirled about how a young woman who isn't even 5 feet tall got into a bar and served alcohol in a city that Indiana excise police patrol more regularly than any other place in the state.

Indiana University's nearly 2,000-acre campus about 50 miles south of Indianapolis is a picturesque mix of tree-lined paths and limestone buildings dating to the late 19th century. The school touts top-notch academic programs, but it's also consistently ranked as a top party school by the Princeton Review, earning the top spot in 2005 and consistently making the top 15 since then.

The city's nightlife centers on a main drag just steps from the stately campus, with bars and clubs offering live music and drink specials within easy walking distance. Students say they weren't surprised that Spierer felt comfortable walking to her apartment alone, even late at night.

"We usually take short walks for granted," said Anita Megha, a 22-year-old in optometry school. "We're not really used to this kind of stuff happening in Bloomington."

Police say Spierer spent the evening with friends at Kilroy's Sports Bar, a sprawling complex with a sand-covered outdoor beach area, rooftop deck and nightly drink specials that are so popular that lines to get in often stretch around the building. She left about 2:30 a.m., leaving her cell phone and shoes in the bar.

Police have said Spierer was last seen by a friend, who they did not name, as she walked to a corner near his apartment about 4:30 a.m. June 3.

They have dismissed media reports that Spierer was involved in a fight the night she vanished. An attorney for a friend who was with Spierer after she left the bar said his client was punched in the face by someone at her apartment complex.

Attorney Carl Salzmann said Corey Rossman doesn't know who punched him and doesn't remember the incident or what happened after.

But Salzmann said Rossman was not the last person to see Spierer. He said Spierer accompanied Rossman to his apartment after he was hit, his roommate put him to bed and she left. The roommate and others saw her hours later, the attorney said.

Rossman is cooperating with police, who have searched his Jeep Grand Cherokee and examined his credit card and cell phone records, Salzmann said. He said his client gave a DNA sample Friday. Police have said they are talking to 10 people "of interest" in the case but declined to call any suspects.

Officials at Kilroy's, where "missing" posters with Spierer's photograph now hang, won't say whether she was asked for identification to make sure she was of legal drinking age before she entered the bar.

Students in Bloomington say it's common for those who are underage to have fake IDs, and Travis Thickstun, the public information officer for the Indiana Excise Police, said about a third of the alcohol citations the force issues are for possession of a fake ID.

But it's not known whether Spierer had one. Police have said she was drinking but declined to elaborate. A police spokesman didn't immediately respond to a message inquiring whether she had a fake ID, and her friends have been reluctant to talk about the issue.

Campus officials and police have tried to curtail drinking, although it appears they've had little success.

IU students must take an online course about alcohol before enrolling, and students hear about the topic again at orientation, said Pete Goldsmith, the university's dean of students. IU has banned alcohol and drugs on university property, and its penalties for those who violate the policy include expulsion, referral for prosecution and completion of rehabilitation programs.

Thickstun said excise police check bars in Bloomington more than those in other cities because of a history of arrests and alcohol citations there. Bloomington and the surrounding county had the most alcohol tickets issued to individuals in 2008 — nearly 1,500, most of them in the city that's home to 40,000 college students and 70,000 permanent residents. In comparison, Indianapolis with nearly 786,000 residents and its surrounding county had only about 1,000 citations.

Yet Goldsmith said Bloomington is generally a safe place, and U.S. Department of Justice data back that up. The city reported no violent crimes in 2009, the last year for which information is available. Its police department has a motto on the side of its headquarters: A safe and civil city.

Until Spierer disappeared, most students shared that feeling and said they thought little of walking home by themselves after a night on the town.

"It hit close to home," said Michelle Slaughter, a 22-year-old criminal justice major. "We do the same thing that she does."

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The search for missing Indiana University student Lauren Spierer is now a week old, with not much new known about the investigation and with volunteer searchers vowing to trudge ahead.

One of the few new nuggets of information Thursday surrounded an altercation at Smallwood Plaza that involved at least one person associated with Spierer in the hours before she was last seen.

Spierer was seen on surveillance video walking with Corey Rossman, who had been involved in an altercation, to his apartment.

Rossman's attorney, former Monroe County Prosecutor Carl Salzmann, said his client has no recollection of the fight, or events after that.

"There's been some significant details that the police were aware of recently, some things that I found out, some things that they've been told," Salzmann said. "I'm sure that they're going to follow that up, and I'm sure all the people involved are cooperating as best they can."

Police said Thursday that they are considering releasing surveillance video of Spierer walking on the morning of her disappearance, hoping it might spur more tips.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Police investigating the disappearance of Lauren Spierer were given DNA samples Friday afternoon from Corey Rossman, the Indiana University student Spierer was with the morning she went missing, and his roommate, Mike Beth.

The two gave the samples at the police station.

Upon exiting with his lawyer, Rossman told reporters, "I was not the last person with her. That's all I can say. Sorry. I hope they find her as soon as possible. I am praying for her and her family."

Asked whether he had anything to do with her disappearance, Rossman said, "Absolutely not."
Ronald Chapman, a lawyer for Beth, said his client was re-interviewed by police Friday.

"There was no reason for him not to," said Chapman, who described it as a "wrap-up" interview and suggested police would have no further interest in talking to his client. He would not elaborate. He declined to comment on details of the investigation or reveal what his client said about Spierer's visit to the apartment.

The search for Spierer, 20, of Greenburgh, has drawn hundreds of volunteers, including her parents and sister and several of her classmates from Edgemont High School, where she graduated in 2009.

She was last seen on video with Rossman shortly after 3 a.m. June 3 after they left her apartment building. Jay Rosenbaum, a friend of Rossman's who lives in his building at 11th Street and North Morton Avenue less than half a mile from where Spierer lives, told police that he saw Spierer leave his building between 4:15 and 4:30 a.m. and turn the corner onto North College Avenue.

Roude said Spierer's boyfriend, Jesse Wolff, 21, of Port Washington, Long Island, became worried the morning of June 3 after she did not respond to text messages he sent to her cellphone.

She had left her phone and her shoes in a bar before she disappeared.

"He was waiting for her to text him, to say, 'Come over and hang out,' " Roude said. "Jesse was really worried. He went to Hadar's class to get her key."

She said Wolff was not part of the circle of friends Spierer had been with the morning she disappeared.

"Her boyfriend loves her more than anyone in this world," Tamir said.

The lawyer said Spierer was seen by at least two other people after leaving that apartment, and that Rossman was not the witness police said saw Spierer rounding a corner on her way home. ::snipping2::

It's being said that the boys in the apartment lobby, who got into an altercation with Corey Rossman, were friends of Lauren's boyfriend, Jesse Wolff. Wolff was texting her to find out where she was but she didn't respond. Let's say the friends were posted in the lobby to watch for her, while Jesse drove around to find her. The police should be able to track a cell phone call from the friends in the lobby to Jesse's cell phone right after the friends had located her.

Lauren and friends met Corey Rossman only one week before, at the Indy 500. Maybe he is like Nicole Simpson's Ron Goldman, a simply friendly guy who was drawn into the woman's complicated domestic situation innocently.

This is what I am thinking too. I think we might be looking at a jealous boyfriend here. A possible scenario: Jesse's friends are probably feverishly texting (the boyfriend) because Lauren is with some other guy they don't even know. Meanwhile, Jesse is fuming and the friends say we will kick his rear. They assault Corey, someone intervenes and breaks it up. Lauren escorts Corey back to his apartment. She leaves, and on the way back "Jesse" finds her. I really think we will have an arrest soon, jmo.

Bloomington, Ind., police Friday morning conducted a checkpoint stop of 135 vehicles at an intersection near Spierer's apartment just off campus. Police asked motorists if they had been in the area about the same time last Friday hoping to find new witnesses.

Police also passed out fliers about the case to motorists. So far their efforts haven't yielded any new tips. Police said they may repeat the checkpoint approach but didn't specify when.

The search for Spierer on Thursday focused on southern Indiana lakes as her family announced a $100,000 reward for information leading to her safe return.

FWIW, Mr. Wolff's friend count is going up. Yesterday he had 1043 friends. Then he added Lauren Spierer Missing. Now he has 1049. Becoming a minor celebrity? Enjoying the media attention? So much like other psychopaths, OJ and JVDS to name just two. A decent boyfriend would have shut this page down days ago.

It seems a few of us are on the same page? So if we are correct... A crime of passion committed at the hands of the jealous boyfriend. So if this is the case, he "loved" her, possessed her, she was his. so what does someone do in that case? Does he stash her? If so, where? Does he do the unthinkable? If so, where would he place her?

He does have a lot of facebook friends, I noticed that too. I find it odd he has that pic of him and Lauren rather then the missing poster or something which would say she is missing.

Police are searching a particular lake and, I think, a quarry. The area south of Bloomington is very hilly, rustic, picturesque, very much like New England. Quarries are common because the area is known for its limestone.

I hope they are checking places which have been "special" to them as a couple. Maybe a place they spent some time together? I bet if he placed her some place it is not far from him. Of course if he did this and given so little is known at this time, I have no idea if he is involved or not.

Corey Rossman, who was seen on surveillance video walking with Spierer, 20, to his apartment last Friday morning, was asked by police to provide DNA, which he did voluntarily, said his attorney, former Monroe County Prosecutor Carl Salzmann.

Tracygirl Great question about who found the phone, if the finder wasn't a bar employee then the fishy factor increases greatly, IMO.

The overly possessive pose of that facebook photo is worrisome.  They don't look like they belong together, it seems so posed or forced.

IMO Corey giving his DNA is important and should help focus the investigation where it should be, on the BF and/or his friends.

Bloomington sounds like just about every other college town, to blame the bars is a copout and a distraction. Fake IDs are almost a rite of passage, doesn't necessarily make it right, but it does make it "normal". 

Why do the authorities these days think that withholding information from the public is the way to go?  Are they hiding evidence and protecting perpetrators?  Or is it an effort to maintain job security...being able to take credit?  Returning Lauren to her family is all that matters, how that happens is inconsequential. 

Great post and I am glad they are willing to give DNA samples but they do no good w/o a body.  I do hope they find her soon!!!  I would search where  Tracygirl suggested but if BF (or ex-bf) did it and him being a fan of Dexter then who knows.  Seems like LE is going about things the right way even thought we don't really know much from them.  I don't think it's a take credit issue or hiding.  If you have a good LE crew they know just how quick people lawyer up and don't want anyone to know which way they are going due to them wanting all the cooperation they can get openly.  We all know just how quick a lawyer can cement their clients mouth!  T. Volunteers, family and friends said they're determined to find Spierer, who was last seen in the early-morning hours of June 3, blocks from her Smallwood Plaza apartment.

Yes, I heard that. One of the police sources made that comment one time, earlier in the week. I don't think it reflects what the police are currently thinking. They're looking in lakes and reservoirs, not for a kidnapped girl.

Lauren Spierer’s mother Charlene said she wakes up every day and asks herself what do I want to accomplish today.  

“I want to say to the person who has Lauren or has harmed Lauren: Shame on you! In relationship to that, the person who knows this person who’s not coming forward with the information, I beg you to come forward.”

She also spoke to her daughter at Sunday morning’s press conference saying, “Lauren, I love you with all my heart and soul…I am here for you 100 percent. I will never leave you. I love you with all my heart, and I need you back.”

She also told her daughter that she doesn’t want her appearance of despair to mean that she’s not as strong or as determined as ever.

Sunday is the tenth day that 20-year-old IU student Lauren Spierer has been missing. America’s Most Wanted aired Lauren’s case Saturday night.

Although it only lasted a few minutes in the hour-long show, the Bloomington Police Department received between 30 to 40 tips from 9 p.m. when the show aired to 3 a.m. Sunday morning. BPD Capt. Joe Qualters said they expect tips to continue to come in for at least 24 hours after the show aired.

“We are very hopeful we’ll finally get that phone call to find Lauren,” Qualters said.
Qualters also said that every person of interest BPD has interviewed has been compliant, but there are still persons of interest that BPD has not spoken with.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Police said today that some of the 10 "persons of interest" who interacted with college student Lauren Spierer the morning she disappeared have yet to speak with authorities, despite efforts to contact them.

"There are indications that individuals not available will make themselves available," Capt. Joe Qualters said at a media briefing. "There's nobody at this point that we can prevent from leaving this community. We certainly cannot compel anyone to come in and speak with us."

Qualters, meanwhile, revealed that Jesse Wolff, Spierer's boyfriend, was the one who walked into the police station the afternoon of June 3 and reported her disappearance.

Several students who saw Rossman in the period after Spierer vanished questioned the "memory loss," saying he had no bruising or redness to his face that would support the claim.

"Supposedly he had that big altercation, but he didn't look like anything happened to him," said senior Chris Malone, who saw Corey the next morning, June 4.

Rossman was outside his apartment, asking Malone if he'd seen Spierer.
"What's up boys?" Malone quoted Rossman as telling him. "Did you happen to see a little blond girl?"

Hadar Tamir, Lauren Spierer's college roommate, shared new details Sunday about the morning her roommate went missing.

She said she was with her roommate for much of the previous day and remained with her until shortly after midnight the morning of June 3.

They were "just hanging out" in a friend's apartment down the hall at Smallwood Plaza around 12:30 a.m., when Spierer left.
That's shortly before Spierer went to a bar and met fellow student Corey Rossman.

Indianapolis 500. Tamir was also at the auto race, as was Rossman's roommate, Mike Beth, and Jay Rosenbaum, a mutual friend who lives elsewhere in Rossman's building.

Rosenbaum was the one who introduced them, Tamir said.

"I've been good friends with Jay since our freshman year," she said, and added "we always used to be at his apartment last year."
Tamir said she's not certain what Spierer's boyfriend, Jesse Wolff, was doing early June 3.

"From what he told me, he was watching the basketball game at his house and was then supposed to come over to hang out with Lauren," Tamir said.

But Spierer left her phone at the bar.

"She could no longer get in contact with (Wolff), so he never came out," Tamir said. "He ended up just sleeping at his house."

More than a week after Lauren Spierer's disappearance, Bloomington police have yet to interview all of the persons of interest in the case, officials revealed Sunday.

In an often-combative session with the media Sunday afternoon, Police Capt. Joe Qualters suggested some people involved in the case may have left the city before investigators had a chance to question them.

"There's no one we can keep from leaving the community," Qualters said. "No one's under arrest, no one's a suspect. There's no one we can compelling to come in to talk to us."

Qualters refused to say how many people have yet to be interviewed by police or have been asked to submit DNA samples. Police have refused to discuss specific individuals connected to the case or share much of the evidence collected, including video footage of Spierer hours before she disappeared.

"Jesse was texting Lauren the next day to see where she was, but he got no answer because the bar had her phone," Tamir said. "After a few texts, the bar texted Jesse back saying your friend left her phone here, tell her to come get it."

Does anyone else find this strange? Why would he need a key? Why not just knock on the door? Why would he want to check if she was sleeping if they all sleep late? Then after not finding her at the apartment his next thought is to go to the police? Sort of jumping the gun in my opinion. It as the early afternoon.

Spierer wasn't there, "and that's when we all realized she was missing and it became a whole lot more serious," she said.

Police today said Wolff went to the police station to report Spierer missing. However, Tamir said two friends — Sara and Amanda Roude, a student from Chappaqua — went there to fill out a missing person's report.

If the boyfriend Jesse Wolff turns out to be a suspect, I will assume that he went to Lauren's apartment to clean up some loose ends such as evidence of his anger, jealousy, and control issues.

Also, he was alone in Laurens apartment when he needed the key to go check on her because supposedly, knocking on the door would not work? hmmmm something is not sounding right. To me it sounds like he wanted to get in there, not that he wanted to check on her, for that he would not need a key.

Bloomington Police confirmed information first reported by Fox59 News last week about evidence discovered in the investigation of the disappearance of an IU coed.
 
Captain Joseph Qualters told reporters that Lauren Spierer's keys were found on the railing of an apartment building near where she was last spotted early on the morning of June 3rd and surveillance cameras may provide important clues as to the young woman's disappearance.
 
"We have information from that video that again gives us an indication not only of the direction (of her travel) but the activities that have taken place from where that video shows," said Qualters who told reporters that surveillance cameras in the vicinity of 10th Street and College Avenue and adjoining alleys may show Spierer walking from her Smallwood Plaza apartment building to 5 North Townhomes at 11th Street and Morton Avenue.
 
"I believe that was in the area of 3:15, 3:30," said Qualters. "That would be somewhere north of 10th Street."

I don't suppose the apartment has been sealed since then or searched in any meaningful way? Just beer and pizza as usual with all the other students dropping in as they please?

Did Jesse also pick up the phone at the restaurant, before or after he got into the apartment? If so, he probably erased some of the angry text messages he sent the night before. Ditto for cleaning up emails and so forth on her computer inside the apartment. I hope the BPD thinks about retrieving those messages from the phone and internet providers ... but BPD is not looking real sharp right now.

Yes, they have to have an eye on him. Looks like the family does: the boyfriend is not standing with the parents in any of their interviews.

Information is coming from different people and media; official news from the police might be the most accurate.  The police said that "the keys were found on the railing of an apartment building where she was last spotted..."  I guess that some of the information is coming out before the police hold their press conference?
 

Perhaps the railing is near the ally or leading to the ally or outlining the ally? I suppose both reports can be correct?

Both reports could be correct if the keys were dropped in an alley or along the street and some neighborly person found them and put them on the railing where the owner could come back and see them. That would be conventional in a college town, I think. The report doesn't say whether this is a ground level railing.

BLOOMINGTON - There are new developments to report in the disappearance of 20-year-old Lauren Spierer. Bloomington Police say they have video of Spierer in an alley, but they won't say if she  walking alone or with another person.

Bloomington Police Captain Joe Qualters said, "I'm not going to get into specifics about what we have seen at this point. We have talked about the video we have received and we are not going to release it or talk about it."

Police have asked the volunteers to start looking down, go through the grass and the dirt . So far, searchers have turned up a woman's bra and part of a cell phone. Police have taken both.

The search for her has turned up little. In an interview with NBC Sunday afternoon, her parents say they are still hoping for the best but preparing otherwise.

A witness told Fox 59 News that Rossman was punched during a confrontation in the 5th floor elevator lobby of Spierer's apartment building at approximately 2:45 a.m. That confrontation was with a group of friends of Spierer's boyfriend, Jesse Wolff. Rossman's attorney, Carl Salzmann, told Fox 59 News that his client has no memory of the fight but was told that Spierer walked him home and turned him over to his roommate Mike Beth. Salzmann said Beth claims he put Rossman to bed while Spierer asked him if he wanted to party. Salzmann said when Beth demured, Spierer left Rossman's apartment to visit Jay Rosenbaum, a mutual friend, two doors down. Confronted outside their apartment Sunday, Corey Rossman and Mike Beth denied their identities to Fox59 News, then complained that media coverage of the investigation was ruining their life. I guess I had not noticed that she left Rossmans' and went to the apt of Rosenbaum and he is the one who states she left at approx 4:30 and HE saw her leave after trying to get her to stay.  He didn't help her get home either!  If their is video of her on her way home then I think some unknown perp grabbed her or the BF (or ex-BF) found her walking and really wanted to know why she was out with other guys and at their home.  She may not have considered him her BF at that moment but judging from the way HIS friend had an altercation with Rossman whom she was with, he might have believed she was still his 'property'!  I say put BF in check!

I forgot to add that this guy is Lauren's roommate Hadar's friend.  I don't like that she didn't come home after being with her very late and her not saying she even checked on her.  Something sound a little hinky there too.  I know Hadar isn't responsible for Lauren but I just wouldn't let someone go out with guys she just met only once and not worry when she didn't come home, just sayin'.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) - Bloomington Police may soon reveal some of the details they’ve gathered from security camera footage in their investigation into the disappearance of Lauren Spierer.

“There is a vehicle that has come to our attention,” Captain Joe Qualters said as he explained that the department is waiting on enhancement of the video that shows “a vehicle or a couple of vehicles” in hopes of being able to identify the drivers.

“That is not to say that …this person is responsible for Lauren’s disappearance. This person is not to be identified as suspect vehicle,” Qualters explained. Detectives rather, hope the driver or drivers may have seen something that could generate new leads.

Police would not say when the video would be available.

Bloomington police were enchaining a video that shows at least one car in the area when IU student Lauren Spierer disappeared, a spokesman said today.

The video may show one or two cars, Capt Capt. Joe Qualter told reporters. The drivers are not necessarily suspects, but may have some information about the sophomore's disappearance early June 10 after drinking with friends.

Police hope to release the video to the public to stir up new clues in the case. Investigators hope further video analysis will show a distinctive marking to the vehicles. Police worry that a vague image will prompt tips of little value, Qualter said.

Qualter also told reporters not to cling to the idea that there are 10 persons of interest. That number was used at an early news conference and it can change daily.

Robert and Charlene Spierer continued their practice of briefing reporters about their daughter's disappearance.

Charlene Spierer pleaded with anyone with information about their daughter to set aside any fears and contact police. "What are you waiting for?" she asked at the police department briefing. "What are you waiting for?"

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Police for the first time today acknowledged that they have received information that college student Lauren Spierer may have overdosed on cocaine and that the student or students who were with her panicked and disposed of her body.

Bloomington police Capt. Joe Qualters was asked by a reporter about these "rumors" during a morning media conference.

His reply: "Have we heard information along those lines? Absolutely."

But he said detectives have not ruled that, or any other possibility, out in their investigation into the missing student.

"It's absolutely critical for us to be open minded," he said. "There is no shortage of information coming in."

the way I read it was LE is not ruling anything out, even rumors. I suppose that is possible, she did have a heart condition.

I think it is interesting he is out of state and LE commented on they can't make anyone stay in town. Did they question him? I am sort of taking it as they didn't because LE is quoted as stating they are sure even those out of the area will volunteer to give statements, but perhaps I missed something.

Bloomington, Ind.— A lot of manpower and resources have been going towards the search for Lauren Spierer, and now a specialized search team is in Bloomington. Private search group Texas EquuSearch came at the request of Spierers' parents and authorities involved in the case.

"I think there is a lot of strength in numbers, and there has been a lot of numbers," said Texas EquuSearch founder and director Tim Miller.

The search and rescue group will be bringing some of the most advanced technology available to Bloomington beginning Sunday.

"We got an awful lot of experience. We got our own sonar equipment. We got our own drop down cameras, ground penetration units, and drone airplanes," said Miller.

Miller told FOX 59 the group that is dedicated to his daughter is more than a thousand volunteers strong. In 1984, Laura Miller was abducted and murdered in north Galveston County, Texas.

"His compassion is a real compassion. Unfortunately, it was derived from an unfortunate circumstance," said Robert Spierer, Lauren's father. "I think to have the breath of those kinds of resources with the level of sophistication and the skilled search people is extremely important."

The group's expertise includes some high profile missing persons cases, including Stacey Petersen, Natalee Holloway and Caylee Anthony.

Bloomington, Ind.— Bloomington police say they are investigating a report of a vehicle seen multiple times in the vicinity of 11th and Morton Streets, as well as 10th and College on the morning Indiana University student Lauren Spierer disappeared.

Police said the vehicle may not have anything to do with Lauren's disappearance but they would like to speak with anyone in the car who may have seen something in those early morning hours of June 3rd. Police did not release any further details, saying investigators were currently working on enhancing the video before saying anything more specific.

The search continued Monday for the 20-year-old Spierer. The daily searches went down from three to two this week. The first search began at 11 a.m., the second is scheduled to get underway at 5 p.m. Volunteers are asked to gather at Spierer's apartment building, Smallwood Plaza. Smallwood is located near 8th and College in Bloomington.

The search has so far consisted of volunteers canvassing the Bloomington area and beyond. Helicopters have been looking at roof tops, train tracks and waterways. Divers searched Lake Monroe. The U.S. Marshal's Service and the FBI are involved. Just recently, the private search group Texas EquuSearch came at the request of Spierers' parents and authorities involved in the case.

When Lauren Spierer’s uncle called Texas EquuSearch last week, Tim Miller said he couldn’t help unless law enforcement asked him. Within a few hours, Miller received a call from police and booked the next flight to Indiana.

Spierer, a 20-year-old IU student, has been missing since June 3. Community members and investigators are in their second week of searching, and Miller said he and his group are just a small part of the search.

Texas EquuSearch started 11 years ago with only volunteers on horses searching for people reported missing. Slowly, people came to Miller saying, “I don’t have horses, but I have ATVs.”

Now the organization has more than 530 trained members in Texas and more than 1,400 members nationwide. Each member brings their own skills with them, allowing the organization to bring dive teams, aerial searches and other technical equipment with them to make their searches more effective.

BLOOMINGTON - The FBI is enhancing surveillance video of the area where missing Indiana University student Lauren Spierer was last seen.

Spierer disappeared on the night of June 3rd from downtown Bloomington. Hundreds of volunteers have mobilized to help Bloomington Police find her.

A Texas equine search group will cover wooded areas on horseback Tuesday.

Experts from The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children will be combing the area where Spierer was last seen. Although detectives and volunteers have searched that area many times already, national experts will also be searching again for any clues that might help the investigation.

Lauren's mother Charlene Spierer became emotional while speaking at Tuesday morning's news conference from Bloomington Police headquarters. She said she felt she had failed her daughter because she has not yet been found.

Monday, police began using unmanned drones to assist in the search.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Police said Tuesday that they are sifting through mountains of rumor and innuendo as the search for Lauren Spierer rolls through its second week.

Investigators had little new information to provide in their daily news conference Tuesday.

"There is a lot of rumor, a lot of speculation. All of that is being taken in and evaluated," Qualters said. "Sometimes rumors … kind of grow a life of their own. Somebody may have heard it third- or fourth-hand. We really have to be careful about evaluating the information that's coming in and how we heard about it."

New investigators have been brought in to provide fresh eyes to a case that is growing cold.

"We're going to start back at the known last location," Qualters said. "We'll begin searching outward with new personnel to make sure nothing was missed."

Police said they have received about 1,000 tips, 350 of them in recent days.

Qualters also released a more detailed description of the clothing Spierer was wearing when she was last seen.

Spierer had on a white, V-neck shirt with sleeves to her elbows. The shirt was scooped in the bottom at the front and back and had bell or butterfly sleeves, Qualters said.

She was also wearing black leggings with silver zippers at the ankles.

Police said they believe they have talked with the people they wanted to talk to in the investigation.

"We feel comfortable and confident in the people that are coming forward and speaking with us," Qualters said.

Police searching for a missing Indiana University student from Westchester County in New York have received nearly 1,000 tips from the public so far about what might have happened to the young woman.

Bloomington police Capt. Joe Qualters said Tuesday about a third of the tips received by telephone and email were collected after "America's Most Wanted" aired a segment Saturday on Lauren Spierer's disappearance. The tips were collected with a new system set up with FBI assistance before the broadcast.

Spierer, 20, of Greenburgh, N.Y., was last seen early June 3 walking toward her apartment after a night of drinking with friends.

Qualters did not say how many of the tips investigators consider legitimate or promising. He has said previously that police are trying to keep an open mind in the investigation. Police also have said they've talked to a number of "persons of interest" in the case but have no suspects.

Qualters said investigators are waiting for the FBI to complete an enhancement of security video footage of the area where Spierer was last seen and hope it will be ready to release to the public Wednesday.

Monday, police said Spierer's roommate filled in more details of the morning the fashion major disappeared.

Hadar Tamir, Spierer's roommate at Smallwood Plaza apartments, said the 20-year-old woman from New York was hanging out with her until 12:30 a.m., then went with another Smallwood resident, David Rohn, to friend Jay Rosenbaum's apartment up the street.

Spierer, Rohn and Rosenbaum watched a basketball game at Rosenbaum's, said Tamir, who is friends with Rohn and Rosenbaum. They were joined there by Corey Rossman, who lives two doors down, she said. Tamir said Mike Beth, Rossman's roommate, was also there.

A while later, Rossman and Spierer went to a bar, Tamir said, and Rohn returned to Smallwood.

About 2:30 a.m., Spierer -- who left her cell phone and shoes at the bar -- and Rossman returned to her building, where other students confronted him.

One punched him in the face, causing him to lose memory of the exchange and his interactions with Spierer after that, Rossman's lawyer said.

They then went to Rossman's building, where Beth, his roommate, put him to bed, said Beth's lawyer, Ronald Chapman.

Beth watched Spierer leave. She then went to Rosenbaum's apartment.

Tamir, who has spoken with Rosenbaum since then, said Monday that he had tried to prevent her from leaving.

"He told me he tried to make her stay and sleep on his couch but she refused, so finally after trying to convince her, she left," Tamir told The Journal News.

"He told me he watched her leave and told her, 'If you stumble then I'm going to make you come back in here.' But he watched her leave and she seemed fine so he just let her go," Tamir said.

Before leaving, Tamir said, Spierer used Rosenbaum's phone to call Rohn to see if he knew where her phone was.

Chapman, who represented Rohn in a prior public intoxication case and spoke with him in recent days about his interactions with Spierer, would only say that that "somebody" called Rohn at 4:15 a.m. and that "he didn't answer his phone because he was in bed."

He did say that police questioned Rohn.

"It's pretty clear that the police looked at his phone," Chapman said. "They wanted to talk to him and everything seemed copacetic."

Rosenbaum told police he last saw Spierer rounding a corner toward her building. Police said they have no video evidence of that.

According to Tamir, Spierer's boyfriend, Jesse Wolff, had been planning to get together with her that night. But he couldn't reach her, or she him, because she had left her phone at the bar.

He was texting her hours after her disappearance. The bar, noting that, called him that afternoon. Wolff then tracked down Tamir in class, retrieved her keys and checked her apartment for Spierer. She wasn't there.

Two of Tamir's friends went to the police station to file a missing person's report. Wolff, who met Spierer in summer camp as a child and has been dating her for a couple years, alerted her parents that she was missing, Tamir said.

Neither Wolff's lawyer nor Rosenbaum's lawyer returned repeated calls. Wolff's parents, on Long Island, have refused to comment.

Bloomington, Ind.— Bloomington police spent Tuesday canvasing a neighborhood near where IU student Lauren Spierer vanished 12 days ago. Neighbors said it's first time they've been questioned.   

"It was a question in the back of our minds," said Zach Leffers as he stood on his porch at the intersection where police say Spierer was last seen.

"We are so close. We wanted to know if they were going to come talk to us. It's a question everybody around this blocks been asking."

"They didn't specify what we could be doing around here. They didn't come up to us asking any questions," said roommate Kyle Newcomb. "I'd probably be going around door-to-door just around the areas where the person went missing."

A neighbor at 5 North Townhomes, where Spierer was last seen before walking toward 11th and college, told Fox59 news he was questioned by police last week. Other businesspeople in the neighborhood said they haven't been contacted or that police were slow to recover surveillance video from security camera systems.

"We are very much in the information gathering stage," Captain Joe Qualters of the Bloomington Police Department told reporters Tuesday.

He indicated detectives are re-interviewing initial witnesses and reaching out to other associates of Spierer's whom he described as "2nd tier" contacts.
One of those contacts may be a roommate of Spierer's boyfriend Jesse Wolff.

If I remember right, our monkey "Cheerio" has a daughter that is friends with Lauren and she was involved in the searches.

Hi there cartfly! We live in Edgemont, NY and my daughter knows Lauren through High School, a grade apart They also went on a school trip to Japan a few years ago. My daughter told me a story of how Lauren stuck up for her against some bullies! Can you imagine 4'11", as well as sweet and kind. My d was not involved with any searches. I would be there in a flash if I didn't have to take my mil for her chemo treatments and assorted related issues. I'm a Monkey!! Just checking in before bed, I can't believe nothing new? Spierer's parents appeared on NBC's 'Today" show this morning to appeal for the public's help in finding their daughter. They were asked whether they think Rossenbaum and Wolff -- a young man they described with great affection early in the investigation - are cooperating with police and telling the truth about what they know.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Bloomington police Wednesday released surveillance pictures of a truck captured circling the block in the area the night Lauren Spierer was last seen.

Spierer, 20, was last seen at about 4:30 a.m. on June 3 walking south on College Avenue from 11th Street on her way to her Smallwood Plaza apartment near 8th Street and College Avenue

Bloomington police Capt. Joe Qualters showed pictures of a white truck first seen on surveillance video at 4:14 a.m. driving westbound on 10th Street approaching Morton Street.

The truck appeared to drive northbound on Morton before reappearing on video at 4:24 a.m., again driving westbound on 10th Street approaching Morton, police said.

Qualters stressed that the times associated with the video have not been verified by police and may not be exact.

The truck was described as a Chevrolet Silverado full-size truck or a Chevrolet Colorado mid-size truck, believed to be a mid-2000s year model with four doors, a short bed and distinctive wheels.

The truck does have a bed liner and had equipment in the back, police said. It's believed to have a logo or writing of some kind on the doors and on the tailgate.

"It's significant in the proximity and the timing," Qualters said. "Hopefully it's someone who can provide information to us, who may have seen something in that particular area."

Qualters said police are trying to determine if the truck might be connected to construction in the area. He said police have identified another place that may have video of the area.

"We have not ruled out any possibility. This is just another piece of the puzzle," Qualters said. "We're very much in the information-gathering stage."

Police also released a new surveillance picture of Spierer from the night she was last seen.

Why do these stories have trucks? strange.

So it seems the truck they caught was looking for something, by the way it was going around the block, that makes sense. Could have been looking for an address? A person? A job site? a person alone to kidnap? No telling I suppose. I have a hard time believing they don't know who owns that truck or what the logo is on the side of it. With technology today it sure seems they would be able to clean it up enough to read it. 

In the comments section of today's Indy Star news story, one person comments that the truck in the police photo looks a lot like one in Indy Star's own photo 12. Additional comments say Wow, do the police know this? One commenter (hmmmmm) says the truck in photo 12 is much older.

The significance would be: (a) the white truck lives in the neighborhood and should be easy to find; (b) the white truck had something to do with the disappearance and was cruising around to see the current reaction.

I don't know what to think at this point. Random? Friend? Boyfriend? In the news report showing the route Lauren took, the reporter mentions Laurens purse was found in the ally way, is that true? Was her purse and keys found there?

Can't believe they don't have the technology to not read the logo on the side of the truck. I bet they know what it says.

The purse was found in the alley, and the keys were found on the railing.  The FBI enhanced the picture making the markings on the truck blurred.  They need the driver to come forward or someone in the community to identify it.

During Wednesday's Bloomington police press conference, Capt. Joe Qualters said police are "absolutely" looking into the truck. "Why? Because it circles the block," Qualters said. The truck is not considered a suspect vehicle at this time, as police are still in the information gathering stage, he said.

The truck is captured on video heading westbound on 10th Street, approaching Morton Street, at 4:14 a.m. Friday, June 3, according to the time on the camera equipment.

The truck then heads northbound on Morton Street.

It is seen another time heading westbound on 10th Street, approaching Morton at 4:24 a.m.

Had the truck stopped at a stop sign, police would have gotten higher quality photographs, Qualters said.

It’s June in Scarsdale … a time for proms, moving up ceremonies, end of year activities and fun. For parents, it is a time for milestones in their children’s lives -- the completion of a grade, the end of elementary school and for some, high school graduation. However, the recent news about Lauren Spierer at Indiana University has cast a pall over this joyous time and a shadow across the entire community.

In a school district as small as Edgemont, with only 144 students in the graduating class, the Spierer’s are well known and their daughters have crossed paths with a wide swath of their neighbors. Everyone seems heartsick about her disappearance and after they express concern for her, they often say something like “there but for the grace of God go I.” Lauren’s disappearance has highlighted the fragility of our lives and the inability of parents to protect their children, especially when some attend college hundreds of miles away.

Many families are planning to attend a fundraiser for Lauren at Edgemont High School on Thursday night. June 16 to send positive thoughts to the Spierers. Here are the details:

Bloomington, Ind.— The mystery surrounding Lauren Spierer's disappearance has raised serious questions as to whether Bloomington taxpayers should pay for surveillance cameras downtown.

Prominent local attorney Ken Nunn asked the city on two different occasions to put the cameras in to keep students and residents safe, but he said the city turned down the idea.

Bloomington police chief Mike Diekhoff said he'd rather use the money putting more officers on the street, though.

"It's not practical to put cameras at every intersection, " Chief Diekhoff said. "I'd rather put the money towards hiring officers."

The Mayor's office told Fox59 News they couldn't comment on the ongoing police investigation.

Fox59 News has learned that one prime person of interest who was among the last people to see Spierer before she vanished has passed a polygraph test.

So assuming either Jay or Corey are telling the truth, I would think the boys are not directly responsible for Laurens disappearance.

Corey and his roommate, Mike, gave their DNA.  Jay was the last one to see Lauren before she disappeared; I think that Jay passed the polygraph test.  We'll see.

BLOOMINGTON - Bloomington Police released new information Wednesday concerning a truck seen in the area where an IU student vanished 13 days ago, and a picture of what Lauren Spierer was wearing before she disappeared.

It was the first photo of Spierer released from surveillance videos since the investigation began.

"I think if you look closely, you'll see who Lauren is," said Lauren's father, Robert Spierer. "Happy, smiling, beautiful. On her way out to meet with friends."

Police also went door-to-door in the area where she vanished, canvassing a quarter mile radius Tuesday night. Because the area included apartments, the large number of doors slowed their efforts.

The searches continued Wednesday, despite rainy weather in Bloomington. It was an obstacle volunteer searchers were willing to overcome.

"We still have a number of teams going out," said organizer John Summerlot.

At the operations center on the Indiana University campus, where professional search teams mapped their course, the mission continues.

"The lightning, thunderstorms, does affect whether or not we can use horse searches or boat searches or those sort of things," Summerlot said.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) - “This could be you,” Charlene Spierer said Wednesday as she held up one a picture of one of the last known sightings of her daughter Lauren, “Picture yourself in her place, what would you want your friends to do?"

Lauren’s mother directly addressed those who know the answer to where her daughter is saying “This could be you going out on a night with your friends to just have a good time and be happy and share your life with everybody,” she said, I’m begging you to put yourself in Lauren’s place, what would you want your friends to do.?”

Bloomington Police Thursday released a map and revised timeline of the last places Lauren Spierer was seen when she vanished on June 3.

The timeline outlines “Lauren’s known movements and locations” Captain Joe Qualters said. The timeline was constructed based on a combination of surveillance video and witness statements.

This marks the second day in a row that police have released information about the circumstances surrounding Spierer’s disappearance.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Police investigating the disappearance of Indiana University student Lauren Spierer today released a timeline that is their best estimation of her last known movements.

The timeline tracks Spierer from a sports bar to her apartment complex, through an alley and back onto College Avenue, one of Bloomington’s main thoroughfares.

Much of the early morning of June 3, her movements were caught on surveillance video and are documented down to the minute. The timeline thins out considerably after 2:51 a.m., when police say they have only witness accounts of her movements -- including the last sight of her at 4:30 a.m.

Here’s the timeline:
1:46 a.m. — Enters Kilroy’s Sports Bar.
2:27 a.m. — Exits Kilroy’s
2:48 a.m. — Enters a North/South alley between 10th and College Apartments and 10th and College Village.
2:51 a.m. — Exits the alley, heading toward an empty lot north of 10th & College Village Apartments.
4:30 a.m. — Last seen at 11th and College Ave.

Meanwhile, Capt. Joe Qualters told reporters at daily briefing today that about 150 people on loan from law enforcement agencies and others with searching experience are at work in the Bloomington area.

These searchers swept a quarter-mile and half-mile radiuses around the Bloomington apartment complex where Spierer was last seen after a night of partying with friends.

Bloomington police released Thursday a timeline and map of missing Indiana University student Lauren Spierer's last known whereabouts, based on surveillance footage and witness statements.

Based on video surveillance footage, Spierer was seen entering Kilroy's Sports bar at 1:46 a.m. Friday, June 3. She is seen exiting the bar at 2:27 a.m.

She is then seen entering Smallwood Plaza at 2:30 a.m. and exiting at 2:42 a.m. According to Capt. Joe Qualters, she entered and exited from the front of the complex.

From there, she enters an alley between 10th and College Apartments and 10th and College Village that runs north/south at 2:48 a.m. Security cameras mounted to apartments in the area also show her exit the alley toward an empty lot, north of 10th and College Village at 2:51 a.m.

Spierer's purse and keys were found in this alley, Qualters confirmed.

From there, statements from witnesses provide the rest of the timeline, according to Qualters. At this point, she visits the apartment complex on the southeast corner of 11th and Morton — Five North Townhomes.

A friend told police he last saw Spierer as she started to walk home to her Smallwood Plaza apartment from 11th and College at about 4:30 a.m. that morning.

What if a couple roommates were making a pretty good living slinging powder to the college crowd, ran into a problem when a customer/friend pulls a Lenny Bias right in front of them, then the upper tier supplier/problem-solver gets called in to clean up the problem (truck driver) so as not to expose the longstanding profitable business? At this point, according to the press conference, le is showing a map and timeline based on video captures of her going to Corey's apartment building.

Le explained that the timeline shows video captures--last one at 2:51 a.m.--and the 4:30 a.m. is based on a witness (Jay?).  IIRC, Lauren was with Corey, Mike, and Jay during that time period--2:51 a.m. and 4:30 a.m.

One question I have that I wish can be answered. Why does Wolfe, who claims to not have been with her that night at all, why does he have a lawyer, is not making any attempt to find his girl friend, he and his family are not commenting? I would assume if he was at home all night long as he has claimed he has nothing to worry about.

Oh, cheerio, my eyes are going crazy from reading all of these articles that just don't add up.  ::MonkeyEek::  Soooo, the description of the  mystery man doesn't match Corey; the video of Corey and Lauren show them at the empty lot at 2:51 a.m.; Lauren is supposedly with the guys in the apartment building during the manager's timeframe; I think that it is not Lauren.  :smt102

The writter of the article refered to the witness as "she" so I am going to assume the witness is a female. hmmm

So she says she saw Lauren being carried away by a man who flung her over his shoulder at exactly 3:38? She heard him ask if she needed help getting home? She claims Lauren hit her head? Why didn't this person get involved? She is claiming she saw Lauren stumbling drunk, being taken away by an unknown man and she did nothing?

But according to the new witness, Lauren was stumbling drunk, was slung over some mystery guys shoulder at 3:38 and was carried away? Jay claims she was with him and left at 4:30? 

Maybe she didn't want to get involved?  Also, is it really Lauren? 

From the comments section of today's Indy Star. New name to add to the cast of characters. If true, confirms that the people at the Smallwood apartment building where she lives were friends of Wolff. Were they waiting for her to come home? Did they notify Wolff when she showed up? Was he or were other friends out cruising around looking for her?

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The tips keep coming in, two weeks after Bloomington Police received a missing persons report for Indiana student Lauren Spierer, but progress seems to have stalled.

Police have received more than 1,000 tips since the fashion major was reported missing on June 3. A police handout of a white-four door truck has been responsible for a flurry of more than 500 tips, many pertaining to the vehicle, since it was released on Wednesday. But so far, there has been little news on where Spierer could be.

With the investigation into college student Lauren Spierer’s disappearance two weeks old, police said today they’ve received more than 1,000 tips, including hundreds related to a mystery white truck, but still no big break in the case.

“The bottom line is at this point we still have a missing person, and our effort to try to find Lauren will not stop,”  Bloomington police Capt. Joe Qualters said during today’s news conference.

Just wanted to mention that America's Most Wanted is preparing for their last show airing. I am heart broken that FOX is cancelling the show. They pulled this back in the 90's (been a faithful watcher since the 80's) and miraculously it came back. Friday morning, police were called to the Smallwood Plaza, the apartment building of missing Indiana University student Lauren Spierer. Officers came out the Smallwood Plaza Apartments and removed a bag of clothes. The bag was found behind a dumpster on the 6th floor of the apartment building.

It's unclear if the bag has anything to do with the case. It was first found by a courtesy officer while he made rounds that morning. Reps for Smallwood Plaza said the items could not have been there the day before. Though people are currently moving into the building, reps added the bag was suspicious because it was tucked away.

"Given the circumstances we're dealing with right now, we thought it was absolutely prudent thing for us to do, to call police the be safe and sure," said a spokesperson for Smallwood.

Yes Val, I really believe Wolff was out looking for her that night, it is possible he was sooooo pizzed at her for being around the other guy and then going to his apt whether anything happened or not, found her and dragged her into a vehicle.  Things went further than he wanted and he had to get rid of her.  MOO! 

To be fair, my scenario above could have been anyone driving around and found a tiny, pretty coed out way past her time, alone and maybe had the fubar look/walk.

Sounds thin, this is getting more ridiculous. My heart aches for the family.

So little information from the police. Who made cell phone calls to whom that night and at what times? Where was Jesse Wolff that night? What did Jesse Wolff do or take when he entered Lauren's apartment that Friday afternoon? What are the names of the boys whom Lauren and Corey encountered at Smallwood that night? The police have video of that encounter - so why haven't they shown it?

I'm starting to think the Indiana police do not really want a criminal case involving a whole lot of New Yorkers and their lawyers. They might be justified in this position: better for them to get ahead of the drug trade in Bloomington than to mop up after overdoses. In the same way, Aruba would never have been in the spotlight if the Natalee Holloway case had been an American-on-American problem.

They reported on Lauren's case again, because callers flooded the hot line after last week's show.  The callers mentioned the white truck.  It was shown and described.  "Police need your help in finding the truck; or, if you know anything about the disappearance of Lauren, call the hot line.  You can stay anonymous."

Laurens poor dad, I pray someone will come forward. They need to know the first one to admit whatever happened, will get the best deal. Someday it will be discovered what happened, they will not be able to hide from it forever.

I have looked at the pic of lauren walking down the hall. To me it seems she had a said something to the man in the pic whos legs we see walking away from her. I wonder who that was and what they said.

Yes, Tracygirl, her father looked heart broken.   Her friends will be forever haunted by the memories of such a wonderful, fun-loving friend--Lauren; the first one to come forward will get the best deal.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — When Lauren Spierer arrived at college, the popular freshman already had a network of friends.

Spierer, two of her three Indiana University roommates, her boyfriend and several other friends all went to the same group of Jewish, co-ed sleepaway camps in Wayne County, in northeast Pennsylvania. Spierer, a student from Greenburgh, has now been missing for two weeks.

At Camp Towanda, the petite fashionista had a summer romance with Jesse Wolff, a slightly older kid from Long Island who would become her college boyfriend. There, she also met Blair Wallach, who became her freshman roommate.

Meanwhile, she played inter-camp soccer and lacrosse against Amanda Roude, a Chappaqua girl at Indian Head Camp who became a close friend, and Hadar Tamir, a Long Island girl at Camp Chenawanda who moved in with Spierer and Wallach during their sophomore year.

By the time many of them arrived as Indiana freshmen in September 2009, they'd already met or were preparing to meet via Internet social networking sites.

"We pretty much had our group of friends made out before we came here," said Tamir.

Spierer search moves north near Martinsville

BLOOMINGTON - The search for missing IU student Lauren Spierer continued Sunday despite a stormy start.

Officers from Indiana State Police, Bloomington Police and a number of sheriff's departments have been searching an area around State Road 37 south of Martinsville since early Sunday morning. Police came to the area acting on a tip from someone who had been in the area.

Bloomington Police have an evidence technician on the scene. Eyewitness News reporter Richard Essex says police have been digging in an area near SR 37.

Members of the Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team were also among those searching Sunday. Crews have been combing the area with police dogs, four-wheel vehicles and helicopters most of the day.

The fact that the search was continuing on Father's Day was not lost on the troopers and others who volunteered to help look for Spierer.

Spierer search moves north near Martinsville

BLOOMINGTON - The search for missing IU student Lauren Spierer continued Sunday despite a stormy start.

Officers from Indiana State Police, Bloomington Police and a number of sheriff's departments have been searching an area around State Road 37 south of Martinsville since early Sunday morning. Police came to the area acting on a tip, reportedly from children who were riding ATVs in the area.

Bloomington Police have an evidence technician on the scene. Eyewitness News reporter Richard Essex says police have been digging in an area near SR 37.

Police stopped their search around 7 p.m. Sunday. Bloomington Police have yet to comment on what they learned from the search effort.

At about 3 p.m., the BPD received a phone call on a tip line that said there was a suspicious odor in the area, BPD Capt. Joe Qualters said.

“We went up into the area that was described. We also checked by air the whole area up there, and while checking apparently someone found what appeared to be a fresh mound of dirt described as two feet by four feet,” he said. “They then began checking around underneath that ground and found absolutely nothing.”

Qualters repeated that absolutely nothing was found in relation to Lauren Spierer’s disappearance.

“I think the conclusion is perhaps it might be related to some kind of utility work in that area,” Qualters said.

Thanks for the update, PV.  It sounds like they've been following up on leads and such and finding nothing.  It looks to me like they feel there are people holding back information and are asking them to step forward and share what they know.  I hope there are some answers soon.

Police Say White Truck Not Connected to Indiana Student’s Disappearance

Bloomington police dismissed what had appeared to be one of their most promising leads in the search for Lauren Spierer Monday, announcing that a white vehicle they had been trying to identify has no connection to the missing Indiana University student.

“The white truck…has been eliminated from consideration of having anything to do with this case,” Capt. Joe Qualters said at a news conference Monday.

After receiving more than 500 tips about the vehicle, police identified and made contact with the owner, who Qualters said was “extremely cooperative.” He said the driver was just in the area of 10th Street and Morton Street around 4:15 am on June 3 to pick up an employee and video evidence does support that story. Still, police conducted an extensive search of the vehicle and nothing was found.

Qualters also noted that the primary reason they were interested in the truck was because it appeared to have driven down that block twice in 10 minutes around the time the 20-year-old student was last seen, but that has turned out to be inaccurate. In releasing times for video sightings last week, Qualters had cautioned that police were relying on the cameras’ timestamps and could not independently verify them. They have now confirmed that the two images they captured of the vehicle were actually taken at the same time and it only passed through that intersection once.

Bottom line, there was no mysterious truck or any other mysterious "outsider" beyond the core cast of characters. No one ever saw her leave the apartment building except the last man she was with. Or so he says.

Smallwood Plaza works to improve image in wake of Spierer disappearance

Smallwood Plaza doesn’t try to deny that it attracts East Coast students with apartments named Manhattan, Soho and Carnegie.

Ernie Reno, the spokesperson for Smallwood Plaza, describes the location as a Class A property that is an investment for residents who can afford to live there.

At the apartment complex on College Avenue between Eighth and Ninth streets, a two-bedroom apartment can cost as much as $1,250 a month, and a four-bedroom apartment can cost as much as $2,550 a month.

More than 700 students live in the 223 apartments at capacity, all of which are occupied by students, creating a dorm-like atmosphere.

Sydney Myers, a 2007-08 resident, said when she signed with Smallwood her freshman year, she didn’t even look at the apartments first. All of her friends signed at Smallwood, so she thought she would too. She said it was an easy transition because it reminded her of an extended dorm.

But as the year progressed, Myers had to deal with the partying of other residents.
She remembers falling asleep on the bathroom floor to the sound of the fan to escape the booming music coming through her apartment’s thin walls.

She said she remembers the smell of alcohol lingering in the air Wednesday through Saturday nights, and the atmosphere wasn’t for her. She said you also sometimes could smell marijuana and other drugs in the hallways.

“It was great having the people I was so close with a floor above me or a floor below, but I could only do a year,” Myers said.

However, Reno said the party reputation that Smallwood often receives is an unfair portrayal of the building. When the owners built Smallwood in 2004, they spent $700,000 on its security system.

Smallwood is lined with 156 cameras in hallways, corridors, elevators and garages. There is also a member of security personnel on duty about five nights a week during the school year, Reno said.

“You’re talking about a property that has more than 700 young adults in it,” Reno said, commenting on talk that Smallwood is known for parties. “A certain amount of that is
 going to happen.”

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The continued search for missing Indiana University student Lauren Spierer is on the minds of many incoming freshmen and their parents in Bloomington this week for orientation.

As new students meet roommates and navigate campus, they're also learning about the 20-year-old's June 3 disappearance and how to protect themselves, 6News' Stacia Matthews reported.

"It would be like the 500-pound gorilla in the room, so we just want to deal with it," said Dean of Students Pete Goldsmith.

He said the case is being addressed with incoming students and at all parent information sessions during orientation.

"We think we have a good story to tell, but we want to answer those questions and also make sure people are aware of the programs and services we have to help students be safe," Goldsmith said.

Administrators will also address critical issues facing college students across the country, including sexual violence, alcohol and drug abuse.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) - The mother of missing student Lauren Spierer made an emotional plea to her daughter’s friends to come forward with information on Wednesday.

Charlene Spierer appeared upset with her daughter’s friends and offered a post office box for people to send tips to if they’re worried about calling police. It was the first update given this week on Lauren’s disappearance since Monday.

“I am extremely disappointed by the fact that only one of Lauren’s friends have called the Bloomington Police Department with information,” Charlene Spierer said, adding if the tables were turned Lauren would be the first to call.

The Spierers opened a post office box for “confidential, anonymous information” about their daughter’s disappearance. People should address their mail to Find Lauren, P.O. Box 1226, Bloomington, IN 47402-1226.

BLOOMINGTON - The mother of missing Indiana University student Lauren Spierer expressed frustration Wednesday that only one of her daughter's friends has come forward with information for police.

"On June 3rd, my life changed forever," said Charlene Spierer, describing the moment when she got the phone call that her daughter was missing. "What I can tell you is that I am extremely disappointed by the fact that only one of Lauren's friends have called the Bloomington Police Department with any information."

Bloomington Police Capt. Joe Qualters said there was no evidence to support a report of an additional person showing up in surveillance video on the night she disappeared.

Spierer went missing June 3rd. Reporters asked Qualters about a "mystery man" reported by a witness.

"We have reviewed the video, not only the timeline we have been using but also where Lauren does in fact appear in that video with someone who is already known to investigators," said Qualters.

Qualters said everyone in the surveillance video is known to investigators, and that out of 300 hours of video evidence, some were still outstanding.

"I know that our meetings here have become less frequent, perhaps from your perspective, we have what seems to be less to talk about. The message we would like to convey is despite those two factors this investigation is an ongoing situation," Qualters said.

He said investigators completed "secondary tier" interviews and that detectives would compile all of the information gleaned from interviews.

He added that there was "no shortage of resources being utilized by the Bloomington Police Department in the continuing effort to find what contributed to Lauren's disappearance. Rest assured there are many things going on with this investigation behind the scenes."

I feel sad for her, too; and looking at the father during the press conference, when Charlene was giving her message, brought tears to my eyes.   :cry:

My guess is the so-called friends were new in her life, not the ones she came to IU with. (She was kind of in a downward slide.) Neither the old friends nor the new friends want to tell the police everything they've been up to even if the activities are relatively innocent though illegal.

Bloomington, Ind.— Bloomington police said Wednesday that their search for missing IU coed Lauren Spierer has moved into a new phase now that most of the young woman's friends and the witnesses to her last hours in town have departed for the summer.

"There are many things going on with this interview behind the scenes," said Blommington Police Department Captain Joe Qualters. "(There have) been a number of interviews that have been completed not only with individuals that we knew to be with Lauren prior to her disappearnce but also with people in that secondary tier as well."

Qualters said there are one or two potential witnesses that investigators have not yet interviewed. Based on the information from that ring of sources, detectives may decide to re-interview what they are calling first tier individuals. That would include Spierer's boyfriend Jesse Wolff who was the person to report her missing on the afternoon of June 3.

Wolff returned home to Port Washington, New York, within days of Spierer's disappearance but his roommates cleared out of their off campus rental home this week.

Last week, one of Wolff's roommates told Fox59 News he had not been interviewed by police but last saw wolff at 2:30 a.m., just a couple of hours before Spierer was reportedly last seen.

This case sooo reminds me of Brittanee Drexel!!  She was walking home alone and disappeared into thin air like Brittanee.  The friends aren't talking and going on with life, just like in Brittanee's disappearance.  This is crazy. 

It does sounds to me like her boyfriend went home first....although it is still up in the air for me if he had anything to do with it.  I don't buy it about the accidental overdose possibility.  Lauren knew she had a heart condition, so I do not think she would intentionally put herself at risk with that.  I just wonder about her being in an apartment with all guys on a night when she was drinking.

Hi!  We don't have enough information to conclude one way or another as to what happened to Lauren; the le is still gathering information from interviews to put the puzzle together.  The quys were not strangers; so she probably felt comfortable around them and trusted them.  Hopefully, enough information is gathered to solve this case--and Lauren is found.

Wolff has an off campus rental home?  Hows about they search near there...and to the last place she was seen all the way to his home?  Too hinky he went home first!  All IMO!

It is strange to me too. There must be something that points to him or his alibi is not holding up because he has a lawyer and has not spoken to police. Why is he being resistant to at least speaking with them? Since he lived in that area he must know the area pretty good, why is he not out looking for his girlfriend? As far as I know there has been volunteer searches, right? Well why is he in NY and not helping? He maybe perfectly innocent but man is he making himself look bad.

Lauren Spierer's mom on Wednesday called out her daughter's friends, wanting to know why they're not coming forward on their own to talk to police.

Police say they've interviewed the friends. But Spierer's parents seem to think the friends have more information they can share.

A body found in a plastic storage bin, wrapped in duct tape and in a red cloth sack, has been identified as a 26-year-old woman who recently moved to Indiana from the Far South Side, police say.

An autopsy has found that Cynthia Funches from Highland, Ind. was beaten to death, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Highland police were called to Funches' home at about 8 p.m. Wednesday by her relatives to conduct a well-being check. When they arrived, police found evidence that she was was in danger, said Highland Police Cmdr. George Georgeff.

The body found bound and beaten to death inside a plastic container in Chicago’s Roseland community has been identified as a missing northwest Indiana woman.

The remains were discovered about 4:20 p.m. Wednesday in the 10000 block of South Normal Avenue, police officer Darryl Baety said.

The victim, tentatively identified as Cynthia Funches, 26, of Highland, Ind., died of multiple blunt force injuries from an assault, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Massive Search for Missing IU Student Lauren Spierer Planned for Saturday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) – Bloomington Police are organizing a massive search this weekend for missing IU student Lauren Spierer.

The 20-year-old New York native disappeared June third and detectives are asking for volunteers for Saturday's search.

Aditionaly, police are still sifting through thousands of tips in the case and conducting searches with volunteers.

Reports say remote aerial drones are also being used in the search.

Spierer's parents refuse to give up, Lauren's mother said she has two things she wants to accomplish.

"My first thing is to say to the person that has Lauren or that has harmed Lauren: Shame on you. Shame on you. In relationship to that, the person that knows this person that's not coming forward with this information, I beg you to come forward," Charlene Spierer says.

The second thing she wanted to accomplish is to tell Lauren she loves her with all her heart and soul.

In the meantime, investigators have wrapped up their search of Lake Monroe after receiving a tip that Spierer could possibly be located there.

"Anything small could be big so speak up and contact the Bloomington Police Hotline with any information you have regarding Lauren," said Lauren Spierer's Father Robert Spierer.

Three weeks after Edgemont's Lauren Spierer went missing from Indiana University, the lack of information from the sophomore's college friends has been frustrating her family and stalling local police.

Five of those who've been involved in the investigation — Jesse Wolff, Lauren's boyfriend; and friends Corey Rossman, Mike Beth, Jay Rosenbaum and David Rohn, who all saw her during the last few hours before she disappeared — have retained lawyers.
But the closing of the ranks among these young men and women might be more than just simply following legal advice.

Experts say there's a psychological condition that often kicks in during these types of crises, which prevent people — typically those of college or high- school age — from doing the right thing.

"My guess is a lot of those kids are a bit confused and afraid at this point," said Jeff Cohen, program director of the Mercy College School of Social and Behavioral Sciences in Dobbs Ferry.

OT: No apology needed Buckeye ::MonkeyAngel:: After looking around, the media at first said it was someone in their "late teens", then said the victim was "26 yrs old" and then another media source said "36 years old"......So I would bet what your dear daughter heard was from one of these media sources that was reporting. About Holly, why does it seem like these "witnesses" are calling all the shots? Why isn't LE demanding that all of the witnesses (the ones who haven't been interviewed) line up with their "hired attorneys" and answer questions from LE. I am not very familiar with how this kind of thing works but three weeks ago Lauren goes missing and LE hasn't interviewed all of the witnesses? That is ridiculous! Lauren's parents have every right to be frustrated.

IIRC, the le has interviewed all the people that had contact with Lauren that evening; they have interviewed the "second tier" people--except one or two.  It seems that her "friends" are giving limited information.  Why?  Maybe out of loyalty, covering something about themselves, etc?  The le said this morning at the press conference that the most difficult and challenging cases are for missing persons.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Three weeks into the search for Indiana University student Lauren Spierer, her parents pleaded Friday for someone to do the right thing so they can find their daughter and go home.

In what Bloomington police said would be their final scheduled news conference in the case, Capt. Joe Qualters stressed that investigators would not cease until they find the 20-year-old sophomore.

"We are not finished. Not only will the search efforts continue, but efforts to find out what happened to Lauren and how she disappeared, will continue. We're not going to stop," he said.

Spierer's parents, Robert and Charlene, made an emotional plea for any information about their daughter's whereabouts.

"Perhaps it was a terrible accident that happened. We can deal with that. We can deal with whatever happened," Spierer's mother said. "What we can't deal with is not knowing what happened."

The couple, who is from New York, said they will stay in Bloomington as long as it takes, but want to take their family home.

"We just need our daughter. We just need somebody to stand up and do the right thing," Charlene Spierer said.

Thanks for this article, Grace-land. I hope it will be more difficult for the five to "close ranks" now that they are all at home in separate places. They can't even be certain that all will return to IU to regroup; I think some parents will want their student to transfer to a different college now.

In short, if this group stays together in "close ranks" it will have to be via phone, email, and internet. I wonder if le has acquired the judicial permission to track these communications. Now that would be interesting!

Natalee Holloway's Mountainbrook high school group pretty much closed ranks during the first summer. But they were younger; they were not suspected of involvement; and they were all in the same small community.

Lauren's group should crack once people are separated and begin to get paranoid about what the others might be saying.

Again, I hope le is tapping phones.

 

I believe that Jesse graduated--so he's gone.  I don't think that Corey, Mike, and Jay will return; they were the last persons to see Lauren, and it would be too "uncomfortable" to face the students at the university next school year.  The other cast of characters might return.  If le has enough of evidence against someone, they might go after them and do a little "communication" tracking. They'll always be worried about information getting out--stress!
