Utah lawmaker looking at running Caylee's law
July 12, 2011

In wake of the acquittal of Casey Anthony, one Utah lawmaker is looking at running legislation that is modeled after a proposed Florida law called "Caylee's Law," named after Anthony's deceased child.

Rep. Johnny Anderson, R-Taylorsville, has opened a bill file for the proposed law. He said he has received more than 150 emails from his constituents asking him to run the bill to ensure a Casey Anthony situation could never happen in Utah.

The bill is in the early stages of being crafted; currently legislative staff is combing through Utah code to see what provisions of the law may already be in place within the state code.

The proposed law is being considered in multiple states across the country. Utah joins Florida, Oklahoma, New York, West Virginia and Ohio as states that are looking at passing some form of the law.
