SHSU student goes missing in Montgomery County
October 25, 2011

After spending last Wednesday night at a Montgomery County bar, 24-year-old Thomas Murray's phone was found in a ditch near the sports bar. His car was left in the bar's parking lot. Murray has not been seen since.
Murray, a Sam Houston State University student, is from south Montgomery County. He spoke to his father by phone around 12:30 a.m. and no one has heard from him since.
James Fitch, deputy chief of the University Police Department, said UPD is assisting Montgomery County officials with the investigation in case Murray is seen or heard from in this area.
“We haven't received anything from Montgomery County that there's been any indication of foul play,” Fitch said. “He's a student. We've gone to his professors to be sure that he hasn't been in class. He hasn't been seen up here, which further shows that he is missing.”

Authorities are searching for a 24-year-old Sam Houston State University student who was last heard from by family members last week after leaving a sports bar in Montgomery County.

Thomas Murray Jr., who is nicknamed T.J., was seen leaving the bar on Sawdust Road just after midnight Wednesday, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. He spoke with his father from his cell phone about 30 minutes later, but no one in his family has seen or heard from him since.

Deputies said Murray's cell phone was later found in a ditch near the bar and his pickup was parked in the bar's parking lot.

Deputies said there appear to be no signs of foul play, but it is unusual for Murray not to contact his family regularly.

Equusearch now looking for missing SHSU student

Update: The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is looking at surveillance videos of businesses in the area where missing Sam Houston State University TJ Murray, 24, was last seen on Oct. 18 and 19, Lt. Dan Norris said.

The search now underway by Equusearch is "just a starting point," Norris said, which is why it's taking place near where Murray was last seen.

Update: Searchers with Texas Equusearch are currently meeting to look for T.J Murray, 24, a Sam Houston State University student who has not been heard from since leaving a bar on Rayford Road, in South Montgomery County, in the early morning hours of Oct. 19.

Equusearch officials are meeting immediately under the I-45 North bridge near the Rayford-Sawdust exit, according to Equusearch's automated calling system
The last time Tom Murray heard from his son, TJ, was around 12:30 a.m. Oct. 19, when TJ assured his father he wouldn't drive Tom's truck home from a bar in South Montgomery County.

But TJ's family and friends haven't heard from him since, and the Murray family and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office are asking the public's help in finding TJ, a 24-year-old student at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville who is named for his father.

"I believe somebody out there knows where he is," Tom Murray said Tuesday afternoon at MCSO offices. "I know somebody out there has to know where he is."

TJ, an Oak Ridge High School graduate, and some friends had been out at several bars in South Montgomery County the night of Oct. 18, including Rookies, located at 305 Sawdust Road in Spring, and the last place TJ was seen, at On The Rox Sports Bar and Grill at 592 Sawdust Road, Tom Murray said.

"I called him around midnight expecting him to be home already," Tom Murray, a physical education teacher at Oak Ridge High School, said. "Then I called him right at 12:30 (a.m) and he told me, ‘I'm not driving your truck."
TJ, who is 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs 140 pounds, has blue eyes and was wearing a red T-shirt with white lettering and wearing shorts, had umpired some Little League baseball earlier in the evening, then went to the bars, Tom Murray said.

For some reason, Tom Murray said, his son told him he had been locked out of Rookies, but it's not clear why.

The MCSO is checking into any service calls to the bar that night, and is looking for witnesses, Lt. Dan Norris said.

"At this point, we don't know the answer," Norris said.

Tom Murray spoke with a friend who was with his son at On The Rocks before TJ disappeared, and the friend said he had gone to the restroom. When he came back out into the bar, TJ was gone, and the friend assumed TJ had left, Tom Murray said.

TJ's cellphone was found in a ditch in the area, but MCSO officials would not say where it was found or if any other calls were found on the phone after Tom Murray's last call to his son.

TJ lives in an apartment in Huntsville, but MCSO officials would not say which apartments.

Tom Murray went to On The Rocks later in the morning on Oct. 19 and found his pickup truck still in the parking lot

Friends of TJ's have started a Facebook page, "Bring Thomas Murray Home Safely."

Authorities have stepped up their search for a Sam Houston State University student who went missing after hanging out with friends at a Montgomery County sports bar last week.

Thomas Murray Jr., called "T.J." by family and friends, was last seen leaving On the Rocks sports bar on Sawdust Road just after midnight Oct. 19 after spending time there with friends, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. Murray had just umpired a Little League baseball game and went to the club with his friends after the game.

Murray called his father on his cell phone about 12:30 a.m. to let him know he was leaving his father's truck at On the Rocks and was riding with friends to Rookies, another bar on Sawdust Road. He called his father again to let him know he had been separated from his friends but would leave the truck at Oak Ridge High School, investigators said.

Murray's cell phone was found in a ditch near the first bar and his pickup was parked in the bar's parking lot.

Deputies said there appear to be no signs of foul play.

"We are examining the surveillance from nearby businesses and talking with friends," said Lt. Dan Norris of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. "Right now there's no new developments."

Dogs, ATVs and helicopter brought in on search for missing SHSU student
October 26, 2011

Search crews seemed to focus on two areas of interest Wednesday in the search for TJ Murray, a 24-year-old Oak Ridge High School graduate who has been missing since Oct. 19.

The search, open only to EquuSearch members, law enforcement and Murray's family, centered near an area off I-45 at Spring Creek and another area near Borough Park Drive near Sawdust Road.

The area being searched near Borough Park Drive is less than a mile from the last place Murray was seen, a South Montgomery County bar.

"Our detectives are involved in this case," Montgomery County Sheriff's Lt. Dan Norris said. "They have interviewed friends and family, they have reviewed surveillance tapes to see if (Murray) could be spotted. The physical searches you're seeing (Wednesday) are only starting spots. They're places close to the last place (Murray) was seen."

Searchers on foot and on all-terrain vehicles, and officers with police dogs scoured the areas, as did a helicopter flying just above the treeline near Spring Creek.
 ::snipping2::
Prior to visiting local bars Oct. 18, TJ Murray had umpired at an Oak Ridge Woodlands Area Little League game. He is an umpire with ORWALL.

"We're devastated," said Dawn Becker, president of ORWALL. "He's a great person. He has exemplary umpiring skills. He was always on time. People enjoy working with him.
 ::snipping2::
TJ is 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs 140 pounds. He has blue eyes and was wearing a red T-shirt with white lettering and wearing shorts. His cell phone was found in a ditch in the area, and the truck he was driving was found in the parking lot of the On The Rox bar.

Anyone with information about TJ Murray is asked to contact MCSO Detective Keith Funderburk at 936-760-5876, MCSO Dispatch at 936-760-5800 or Montgomery County Crime Stoppers at 800-392-STOP (7867).

Drivers Spot Large Search Effort For Missing Student In The Woodlands
October 26, 2011

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Law enforcement officers and dozens of searchers fanned out into new territory, and drivers along I-45 spotted quite a show in the search for a missing college student, Local 2 Investigates reported Wednesday.

A helicopter dipped down below the tree line and scanned a wide area of land along I-45 North between the Hardy Toll Road and Sawdust Road for more than two hours.

Volunteers from Texas EquuSearch were in action to look for any traces of 24-year-old Thomas "T. J." Murray, a Sam Houston State University student from Huntsville who was reported missing on Oct. 19.

Montgomery County sheriff's deputies said he was last seen leaving the Rookie's Sports Bar on Sawdust Road after being locked out of the bar and becoming separated from a friend.

His father told deputies his son called to say he would not be walking home from the bar. His cellphone was then found in a nearby ditch and his pickup truck was also found in the parking lot.

"I have a feeling someone did something with my son," said the father, Thomas Murray Sr., a coach at Oakridge High School for 31 years.

The father said he has heard of no new leads or clues that led search parties to the swath of land just south and east from the bar.
 ::snipping2::
Along with the low-flying helicopter above and beside I-45, other search teams fanned out on all-terrain vehicles while others prodded with poles on foot in the heavily wooded areas near the freeway.

The father told Local 2 Investigates that he believes searchers are simply covering new ground in the nearest secluded spots where bodies have been found in the past.

He also said sheriff's deputies asked him to turn in his own cellphone on Wednesday as they search for any new leads.

He said he handed over the phone and deputies then returned it to him. He was then planning to return to the search site to watch for any new developments.

Authorities are still searching for 24-year-old Thomas Murray Jr., a junior consumer sciences major from Sam Houston State University.

Murray was last seen late Tuesday, October 18 night at Rookies Sports Bar & Grill located at the Woodlands, Texas.

Murray last spoke to his father on the phone around 12:30 a.m. and no one has heard from him since, said the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. His cell phone was later found in a ditch near the sports bar, and his pickup truck was in the bar's parking lot.

Rookies Sports Bar & Grill refused to comment on the situation.

"He told us he was going to the bar with his high school buddies as one of his friends is in the military and was going to be shipped overseas," said Ian Hollifield, senior psychology major.

Hollifield and Jake Mayfield, junior construction major, live in the same apartment building that Murray lives in and said they just started hanging out with him not too long ago.

"We have no idea what happened to him," said Mayfield. "I texted him to see if he wanted to come over and play zombies [part of Call of Duty] but he never texted back."

 ::snipping2::

Tammy Milum, an official from SHSU Registrar's Office, confirmed that Murray is an SHSU student.

Although there are no indications of foul play it is unusual for Murray not to have contact with family members. According to the MCSO

I wonder how much he'd had to drink.  Maybe he got confused and thought his friends had left the bar when they were just in a different part.  Maybe there were security cameras in the parking lot.

locked out makes me think he went out the emergency exit and it locked behind him.  thrown out would mean the bouncers asked him to leave and won't let him back in.  And, if one of the 'friends' went to the restroom, where were the others?

Vigil for TJ Murray set at Oak Ridge High Saturday
October 27, 2011

Friends of T.J. Murray's, the 24-year-old Oak Ridge High School graduate and Sam Houston State University student who went missing Oct. 19, are planning a vigil for him from 6-8:30 p.m. Saturday on the football field at Oak Ridge High School.

The MCSO and Texas Equusearch began searching for TJ on Wednesday, concentrating their efforts – on foot, ATV and by helicopter – near Spring Creek at Interstate 45.

The search Friday will "probably be a much reduced search," MCSO Lt. Dan Norris said, as investigators work out what the next step will be.

Lipscomb and other friends of TJ Murray's also have put together a Facebook page, "Bring TJ Murray Home Safely," and bracelets with that same message will be sold at the vigil for $4 apiece, she said.

Funds from bracelet sales and any donations received at the vigil will go toward putting up a reward to bring in any information that might help locate TJ, Lipscomb said.

"Someone knows something, and isn't big enough to come forward," she said.

Vigil for missing SHSU student brings hope, but still no leads
Posted October 29, 2011
Updated October 31, 2011

The Oak Ridge High School football field was aglow Saturday night with family, friends and supporters lighting candles, waving glow sticks and praying for TJ Murray's safe return home.

The 24-year-old ORHS grad and Sam Houston State University student went missing Oct. 19 after he was last in contact with his father Tom Murray, an ORHS teacher for 25 years, around 12:30 a.m. while at the On The Rox Sports Bar and Grill located at 592 Sawdust Road.

Murray told his father that he would not drive his truck while he was out drinking with friends, and later that morning Tom Murray found his truck still in the bar's parking lot.

TJ was nowhere to be found. His cell phone was later found in a ditch in the same area.
 ::snipping2::
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Equusearch began searching for TJ on Wednesday, concentrating their efforts – on foot, ATV and by helicopter – near Spring Creek at Interstate 45.

But after two days and no leads, Tom Murray said searchers would discuss the next move after more interviews and evidence was examined. He's hoping to hear word on Monday about the plans to find his son.

But even as a student with a busy schedule living in Huntsville and studying business and psychology at SHSU, TJ always managed to call or text his parents almost daily, Tom said.

"This is not like him," he said. "To just fall off the face of the Earth, it's way out of character."

Searched several areas today and didn't turn up anything, as of 5 o'clock there were no plans to resume tomorrow, said there weren't any more leads at this time. If another search is scheduled, it will be put on the Texas Equusearch website. Just thought I would pass that info along, I know people were wondering...

Search Continues For Missing SHSU Student
Posted November 16, 2011, Updated November 17, 2011
Reporter: Rashi Vats

It's been one month since T.J. Murray, a Sam Houston State University student, went missing, and his disappearance has left more questions than answers.

While the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office says no physical searches are underway, the search is still very active.

"I touch it everyday before I go to work," said T.J.'s father, Tom Murray, while putting his hand on T.J.'s car.

T.J.'s car has been parked at his fathers house in Conroe for the past month. It's the amount of time that has passed since he went missing.

"It doesn't look good, but you got hope and you got prayer. That's what we are banking on. We just want him home," said Tom. "Last night I went to bed at quarter to 9 and woke up at 1 and couldn't go back to sleep. Just pacing, and where are you, and there should be something I should be doing and I am not doing it."

To take steps to help find T.J., his friends created a Facebook page to raise awareness. Over 4,000 people subscribe to the page and everyday someone comments.
 ::snipping2::
Tj's dad believes someone may have hurt his son and running away is something he would never do.

"He has to talk to someone in our family---me, his mother, his little brother who is his best friend. Theres no way that he would do that to him or us. No way," said Tom.

There's a $5,000 reward the family is offering for anyone with information on T.J.

Mom of missing SHSU student holds out hope

“It was the first night of the World Series,” said Janelle Murray. “People were out. We just believe that people saw something.”

It was Oct. 19, T.J. Murray was bar-hopping with friends on Sawdust Road. The truck he was driving was left in the parking lot and his cell phone was found in a nearby ditch.

Janelle Murray said her son’s friends don’t seem to know what happened.

Texas EquuSearch stopped looking at the beginning of November, and officials with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said they have no leads.

But Murray’s mom said family and friends were asked to give DNA samples to authorities. Officials were also combing through phone records for clues.

“We don’t know what we’re looking for,” Janelle Murray said.

Janelle Murray, who is the mother of four boys, said she has to believe her oldest is OK. She said he was diagnosed with a rare type of Leukemia at the age of five and beat it.

Years later, T.J. Murray would barely survive a car crash.

“We have to believe, if he’s anywhere, he’s fighting or surviving,” his mother said.

The missing student will turn 24 on Wednesday, Nov. 23.

His family and friends plan to honor him that night at 6 p.m. at Papa’s Ice House on Pruitt Road in Spring.

It’s been a month since the father and son were in contact in the early morning of Oct. 19 when TJ called his father to inform him he would not drive his truck after an evening of drinks with friends. The next morning, Tom found his truck in the parking lot of the On The Rox bar on Sawdust Road.

While TJ’s cell phone was later found in a nearby ditch, all investigators have clear is that the 24-year-old had umpired at an Oak Ridge Woodlands Area Little League game on Oct. 18 before drinking with friends. An umpire with ORWALL and a student studying business and psychology at Sam Houston State University, TJ seemed to simply vanish after a friend returned from the restroom and he was nowhere in sight, Tom Murray said.

A “TJ Murray Fund” has been established at Woodforest National Bank so that donations can offer a reward for information leading to the discovery of TJ. So far $5,000 has been raised, with more later from Crime Stoppers if the status is changed from a missing person to a criminal case with the determination that a crime was committed, Murray said.
 ::snipping2::
Investigators with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Equusearch scoured near an area off Interstate 45 at Spring Creek and another area near Borough Park Drive near Sawdust Road in the days that followed the announcement that declared TJ a missing person on Oct. 26. Manpower, all-terrain vehicles, search dogs and a helicopter turned up nothing, not even on the next Friday when the day was open to family and friends, drawing in more than 100 community members desperate to find something.

But there was nothing.

Now the ground searches have ceased, Murray said, as investigators continue to assure him when they call him every Friday and Monday for an update that they are interviewing witnesses and anyone who saw or spoke with Murray in the days leading up to his disappearance.

“Right now the search is pretty much at a standstill,” he said. “The investigation part is still going on.”

Still hopeful to find a clue leading to a more concrete trail of what happened to his son, Murray said several psychics have contacted his family with locations to search, tips Murray said he follows because of the rare chance they could be correct.

“If someone throws something out there, we’re going to look into it,” he said. “We’re not going to rush to the police unless there’s something.”

With ties in Corpus Christi, where TJ attended school after graduating from ORHS and before moving to Huntsville in July to attend SHSU, Murray said there is a possibility that he could have gone there, though Corpus Christi police have been contacted and have few answers. And Murray now doubts that searches are likely to turn up anything in the area.

Regardless of the possibility that finding TJ now means he will not have survived, with Murray submitting a DNA sample to investigators Monday in case they find a body, he has not lost hope that his fighter of a son will return to him.

Holidays difficult for families with missing loved ones
November 24, 2011

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Two area families spent the holiday giving thanks and praying for answers as they search and hope for any clue of their missing loved ones. They mysteriously disappeared nearly two months ago, and this day just isn't the same without them.
 ::snipping2::
In a separate case, another family is struggling with the loss of their loved one. TJ Murray went missing from a Spring sports bar back in October. On Wednesday, the Murray family held a vigil for TJ's 24th birthday, and they spent the Thanksgiving holiday with still no word of his whereabouts.

You could see the pain in the eyes of TJ Murray's mother. Like so many who love him, she wants to see him come home.

TJ was born the day before Thanksgiving 24 years ago.

"Today was hard," said his mother Janelle Murray. "Today was hard."

Janelle's son has been missing now over a month.

She said, "I didn't want to get out of bed. I laid there and cried some more and I thought, 'OK, it's Thanksgiving."

She got out of bed because she thinks TJ is still alive.

"I do believe that. I have to believe that," Janelle said. "I'm not ready for the alternative."

TJ Murray was last seen leaving a Montgomery County sports bar on Sawdust Road during the early morning hours of October 19. There were no signs of foul play. But his cell phone was located in a ditch nearby. His father's truck was still parked where he left it.

In the weeks since, searchers have scoured the area for clues that might lead to Murray. So far, they've had no luck. Even sheriff's investigators have struggled to figure out what happened.

Janelle Murray says the hardest part is when she is alone with her thoughts and fears.

"Then it gets quiet and you think can you do this," she said.

Janelle just cleaned out TJ's apartment at Sam Houston State University, finding his cherished Sunshine Kids pin that he received after beating leukemia at age five. She wears that now -- a symbol of his strength, giving her hope that one day she will know what happened to her son.

"We just plead, plead with anyone that has any information," Janelle said.

Strangers Come Together To Find Missing Student
November 30, 2011

 ::snipping2::
T.J. Murray was last seen at a sports bar in October near the Woodlands. His parents say it's as if he just vanished.

For $5 each, T.J. Murray's classmates are selling wristbands in hopes of raising awareness and money.

"He's a Bearcat here, and I love the Bearcats, so it's our duty to help in any way we can," said Paiten Chriss, a SHSU student.

These volunteers are actually providing the service for a complete stranger.

"I don't know T.J. I don't know his family or anything like that. I heard about it on their Facebook page. They have a Facebook Page called 'Bring TJ Murray Home Safe'," said Colleen Byrd, a student at SHSU. "I really don't want it to just fade away and for people to stop thinking about it. I'd like to keep it as an active thought in everybody's mind until we have an answer."

All the wristband proceeds will go towards increasing the $5,000 reward for information that leads to finding T.J.

The reward amount can soon be found on I-45 between Conroe and The Woodlands. Lamar Advertising donated the billboard space to help raise awareness. No one in the company knows T.J., but they are determined to help.

"There's no reason to give up until we've accomplished what we need to do. We need to find him regardless of the situation--if he is alive or well or not. The family needs closure. There's no minimum of what we can do," said Jackson Felty, a SHSU student.

Wristband sales so far have brought in more than $6,000.

I think you're correct.  This story of his buddy going to the bathroom and he just disappeared just doesn't seem realistic.  I mean, common on.  If they were into something they don't want their parents to know about I'm pretty sure the parents won't care now if they can just get their son back.  Just start talking.

All bracelets are being sold for $5 on the LSC mall area from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. by the SHSU Optimist Club.

A missing student is getting support from the campus community as the seventh week of his disappearance begins.

The SHSU Optimist Club is selling bracelets for $5 to raise money and awareness of the search for Sam Houston State University student Thomas (TJ) Murray.

"I started the booth in an effort to spread the word about TJ's disappearance," member Colleen Byrd said. "Despite the fact that TJ has been missing for a month, many students had not heard that this had happened."

"I wanted to change that, and give some support to the family. It's really all for them. I don't know TJ, and neither did any of the students who have been working at our booth."

A Facebook page, "Bring TJ Murray Home Safe," was also setup and shows the reward poster and several pictures of Murray. There is a $5,000 award for information "directly leading" to finding Murray, according to the reward poster.

Byrd, and the other members of the Optimist Club, are doing this not only for Murray, but his family as well.

"They deserve to have their family member home," Byrd said. "They deserve closure. Someone in this world knows exactly where (Murray) is. They need to come forward."

Family and friends are still hoping that Thomas Murray Jr. will return home safely.

The Sam Houston State student has been missing for close to two months and law enforcement officials have not been able to find any solid leads in the case. Now a group of Murray’s friends are going to take to the streets to try to find the 24-year-old who was last seen at a sports bar in Montgomery County on Oct. 19.

On Sunday, a group of close to 50 people will be searching an area in Spring from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and they ask that anyone with ATVs or horses join in on the search.

“We just hope to bring T.J. home,” Hannah McDonald said. “We are not sure where we are going to meet, but we are going to search and we have his family’s blessing.”

Anyone who is interested in joining the search party can email McDonald at h_frc@yahoo.com and she will provide the meeting place and any other information as it becomes available. The search group does ask that volunteers be at least 17 years of age or older.

TJ's billboard has been spotted. It is located up in the Willis/New Waverley area. North bound. Not 100% what exit though.

Although this should not have even needed to happen, I'm thankful that this sign was donated to get the word out and keep it out there.

Let's hope it can come down in the near future because someone will speak up! Keep praying.

Thank you!! I dint know that this boy is missing and I live in this area. Something is really weird, he was leaving his "dad's truck" in so many places, I know he was with his friends but after the last call he called the "dad" and told him that he coulnd go back to a club and he got separated to his his friends..it means that he went back to the first bar to get his truck and then go where? he told his father in his second phone call that he was leaving the car at a high school right? why he dint go home if he was alone? or  where he was going that he "had" to leave the truck in the high school parking lot? ...something is very weird....

Cecilita, I agree with you, there's a lot in TJ's  case that isn't making sense nor is it adding up.  I don't know if we just don't have enough information or what.  Some of it just doesn't sound right.  And one of my son's attends SHSU and I've asked him about the case several times and his reply has been that there's no news coverage about it. He never hears anything about it. There's been a bit of news from the local paper The Huntsville Item itemonline.com, but no real follow up, other than the initial report.  That's not surprising, because even though it's a college town, it's more of a prison town, and a lot of the older generation act like they can barely tolerate the students, and this has been my experience from spending time there.  I was glad to see some of the students at Sam make an effort to raise money by selling bracelets  and encourage an awareness of TJ's disappearance.   Of course, TJ's family aren't from Huntsville, and neither did he go missing from there.  So that leaves other news sources from areas such as The Woodlands or Conroe.  Not much there either.  The largest city nearby with big news agencies would be Houston, and news sources such as www.myfoxhouston.com, Khou.com and chron.com would be possible sources.  Not much in that either.  There's the facebook, and of course the new billboard near New Waverly, and that's an area a lot of students going to The Woodlands, Conroe or of course, Houston would pass, so that might be good, depending on which side it's on and if it's readily visible from the highway.  I haven't been down that way lately, so I don't know.  I look for any news I can find on this case and I post it here.   At the end of the day, I think there are people that know things about TJ's disappearance and they aren't coming forth.  And it's leaving TJ's family in the dark, with their son missing.  Someone needs to man up imo.

I think that he was with somebody when he called the dad. He supposed to leave the car in a high school to go to another bar and somebody had to be with him in order to take him to another place.

Searchers hold out hope at finding missing Murray
By Jennifer Bell
December 15, 2011

It’s been almost two months since Sam Houston University student TJ Murray went missing in the Spring area, but a search party of family, friends and those who never even met Murray held out hope for clues to his location Sunday.

Hannah McDonald lives in Walker County, and never knew Murray. But she organized an all-day search Sunday with several others because she’d “like to see him come home.”
 ::snipping2::
Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office investigators and members of Equusearch searched near Interstate 45 and Spring Creek and an area near Borough Park Drive near Sawdust Road in the days after TJ was declared missing on Oct. 26, but nothing turned up.

Upon hearing about TJ’s disappearance, McDonald contacted the Murray family and organized Sunday’s search, which focused on areas near the ORWALL Field and the Montgomery County Wildlife Preserve.
 ::snipping2::
As of Sunday afternoon, all the search had turned up was animal bones, Koumonduros said. While searchers aren’t sure what exactly they’ll find of TJ, McDonald said “eliminating ground” is still an important part of the search.

“It’s hard when you don’t know what you’re looking for, but it gives you hope when you know he’s not here, so we can go on looking somewhere else,” McDonald said.

Koumonduros said that she knows there was an altercation at On the Rox, the night Murray disappeared, and the people who were with and around TJ have since been questioned. But no one is suspected in his disappearance.

“Somebody knows something,” Bench said. “It’s just a matter of getting the word out to the right person.”

Father of missing student doubles reward money
By Andrea Bolt
Posted February 23, Updated February 24, 2012

After the disappearance of his son Oct. 19, Tom Murray has doubled the reward for information on his missing son T.J. Murray from $10,000 to $20,000.

The first reward amount Tom Murray offered was for $5,000, which he then raised to $10,000. He just increased the reward again to $20,000, he said Wednesday.
 ::snipping2::
The case is still open and under investigation. Montgomery County Sheriff’s Lt. Dan Norris said increasing the reward amount could be a positive factor in getting leads that might help find T.J. Murray.
 ::snipping2::
Texas Equusearch is waiting on more information, office administrator Sherry McKinney said, so law enforcement can proceed in the case. Texas Equusearch has conducted three searches for T.J. Murray, she said.

“We need more credible information,” she said. “But already, we have searched and searched and searched.”

Authorities believe foul play involved in Murray disappearance
June 14, 2012

THE WOODLANDS, Texas –– Authorities are still searching for T.J. Murray, who disappeared off Sawdust Road last October, and now have confirmed that foul play is suspected.

Murray, 23, met a friend on Oct. 18, 2011 at Papa’s Ice House before leaving to go to another bar and then ended up at On The Rox in the 300 block of Sawdust Road. While there, Murray was involved in an altercation with multiple patrons, according to Crime Stoppers. Staff from the sports bar asked Murray to leave the bar and escorted him off the property.

Murray was last seen on video surveillance outside of the bar at about 12:30 a.m. that night.

It looks like some information may be coming in from Crime Stoppers.  Hopefully LE can get to the truth of what happened to TJ.  I hadn't seen anything previously indicating TJ was involved in an altercation or asked to leave the bar.  The article above indicates that information:  http://woodlandsonline.com/npps/story.cfm?nppage=47872

And next, I'm going to post a news article that sounds the opposite to me.

Really?  No new news?  Has it been common knowledge but not previously reported that TJ was involved in an altercation at the bar and asked to leave?  It's new to me.

No new information in TJ Murray disappearance
June 14, 2012

Officials with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office say there is no new information in the disappearance of TJ Murray, the 24-year-old Oak Ridge High School graduate and Sam Houston State University student who went missing Oct. 19.

TJ was last in contact with his father Tom Murray, an ORHS teacher for 25 years, early Oct. 19 while at a sports bar at 592 Sawdust Road.

Montgomery County Sheriff's Lt. Dan Norris did not confirm that foul play was involved in TJ Murray’s disappearance, but it has not been ruled out, he said Thursday afternoon.

At this time, there has been no new information concerning his disappearance, Norris said.

Heather McDonald, a friend of TJ Murray's who has worked to organize searches for TJ and benefits to raise reward money for information, also said Thursday that there are no new developments in the case.

Father waits for answers in son's disappearance
June 15, 2012

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- There have been eight months of concern and helplessness for one family in Montgomery County. That's how long it's been since they've seen or heard from their son.
The young man went missing after getting into a fight at a bar on Sawdust near I-45 in Spring. Now investigators say they suspect foul play.

It will be eight months on Tuesday since 24-year-old TJ Murray, Jr. disappeared. Investigators suspect foul play was involved, but with so few answers they haven't ruled anything out.

"Faith, hope and family that's what you got," said Tom Murray, TJ's father. " That's how we are dealing with it one day at a time."

Time ticks on with no answers, and no TJ.

Murray said, "Someone knows something. The Lord knows what's going on and whoever did what they did knows what's going on."

The Sam Houston State student has been missing since last October. Investigators have retraced TJ's path and found he met a friend at a bar on Sawdust Road. The two left his father's truck and went to other bars in the area before ending up at a sports bar down the street. TJ was seen on surveillance camera leaving just after midnight on October 19.

"It's not like him to just disappear and that's what happened," Murray said.

Montgomery County Sheriff's deputies have determined there was some type of fight before TJ was asked to leave and escorted off the property.

Katherine Cabaniss with Crime Stoppers explained, "It's one of those cases, unsolved, a complete mystery, no leads about what has happened to this young man.
"

His vehicle was found the next day in the parking lot of the bar and his cell phone was discovered in a nearby ditch.

Murray's father says he hopes Crime Stoppers involvement will help give him and TJ's three younger brothers the answers they've been waiting for.

"He's on our mind every minute of the day," he said.

Foul play not ruled out in SHSU student disappearance

In contrast to recent reports, investigators say foul play has not been confirmed in the case of missing Sam Houston State University student Thomas "T.J." Murray, Jr.

According to Lieutenant Dan Norris of the Montgomery Police Department, while foul play has not been confirmed, it has not been discounted as a possibility in Murray’s disappearance.

The 25-year-old has been missing since Oct. 19, 2011. He was last seen leaving the On the Rox sports bar located in Montgomery County, shortly before midnight on Oct. 19.

Officials say Murray called his father’s cell phone at about 12:30 a.m. to let him know he was going to Rookies Sports Bar & Grill. While there, Murray was allegedly involved in a fight with several bar patrons and was asked to leave. He was last seen on surveillance at On the Rox. No one has seen him since.

His pickup truck was found in the bar’s parking lot while his cell phone was found in a ditch nearby.

Norris said the investigation is ongoing.

Maybe this is where he was asked to leave the bar?  But why didn't his "friends" tell TJ's Dad there had been altercation/s and TJ was asked to leave the bar?

So TJ was last seen at On The Rocks...and had been kicked out of Rookies earlier in the night?  If this is correct, then maybe the friend did go to the bathroom and TJ decided to go and finish whatever it was that was started at Rookies earlier?  Just thinking out loud.  I wonder how far apart the bars are?  I wonder how he acts when he drinks...my brother gets kind of argumentative.  I agree that it sounds odd that the friend went to the bathroom and TJ just disappeared though.  And, I thought there were friends and not just one.  So did they ALL go to the bathroom and TJ disappears?

Missing student’s brother drowns in Guadalupe River
July 18, 2012

The younger brother of a Sam Houston State University student who has been missing for nine months drowned Tuesday in an accident on a Comal County river.
William Murray, 22, of Huntsville, was swimming with friends in the upper area of Camp Hueco Springs on the Guadalupe River on Tuesday when he attempted to swim downstream and disappeared under the water.

Witnesses said Murray had feigned drowning in this manner several times throughout the day in attempt to frighten the group he was with, according to officials with the Comal County Sheriff’s Office. The last time he disappeared under the water, no one was immediately alarmed, but when too much time had elapsed, Murray’s friends called for help. Authorities said they received the call at 4:57 p.m.
Someone from Murray’s group was able to retrieve him from the river and bring him back to shore, where a Comal County Sheriff’s Office deputy began to administer CPR. Once Canyon Lake Emergency Medical Service arrived at the scene, technicians took over the attempt to resuscitate Murray.
Murray was pronounced dead at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in New Braunfels at 6:12 p.m. A Comal County justice of the peace determined cause of death as drowning.

::snipping2::The 22-year old Murray was originally from The Woodlands, but was currently living in Huntsville. According to reports in the Sam Houston State University newspaper, The Houstonian, Murray was a Sam Houston State student studying criminal justice. And, they report, that this is the 2nd time that the Murray family has faced tragedy in recent months.

Last October, Murray’s brother TJ went missing from a bar in Montgomery County and hasn’t been seen since. Authorities there have still not ruled out foul play in that case and a reward for information on TJ’s whereabouts currently sits at 20-thousand dollars.

According to Facebook posts on the "Bring TJ Murray Home Safe" page, the funeral for William Murray has been set for this Saturday at Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Spring, Texas.

Guadalupe River death of missing man’s brother ruled drowning
Posted: Wednesday, July 18, 2012 10:31 pm | Updated: 1:21 pm, Sun Jul 22, 2012.

The death of a young Montgomery County man whose brother disappeared months ago and still hasn’t been found has been ruled a drowning, an official said Wednesday.
Will Murray, 21, who lives in the Oak Ridge North area, was swimming with friends Tuesday at the Guadalupe River in Comal County. He disappeared under the water and was pulled out by friends about 30 minutes later, just as emergency personnel arrived.
Will Murray is the third oldest of the four sons of Tom and Janelle Murray, who both teach and coach at Oak Ridge High School, said Hannah McDonald, who came to know the family after the disappearance of T.J. Murray, 24, in October. McDonald said she has conducted several searches for T.J. Murray.

The funeral of the Sam Houston State University student who drowned in the Guadalupe River was held Saturday at Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Spring.

William Murray, 21-year-old criminal justice major, was swimming across the Guadalupe River near New Braunfels near Camp Hueco Springs when he went under and did not resurface, according to the Comal County Sheriff’s office.

He is the brother of TJ Murray, another SHSU student who went missing more than nine months ago.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Woodforest National Bank care of William Murray Scholarship Fund.

William is the second youngest of four sons. His oldest brother who also attended SHSU, Thomas “TJ” Murray, went missing from a bar in Montgomery County last October after being seen in an argument. Their parents are coaches and teachers in Conroe.

TJ Murray’s truck was found the next day still in the parking lot of one of the bars he visited, and his cell phone was found in a nearby ditch.

The reward for information on TJ has been raised to $30,000 according to KHOU.

Foul play has not been ruled out in TJ Murray’s disappearance.

Missing student TJ Murray remembered one year later
October 18, 2012

A candlelight vigil will be held tonight for a Sam Houston State University student who has been missing for one year today. The vigil and a 5-minute moment of silence will take place today at 8:30 p.m. at Rookies Sports Bar in Spring.
Thomas “TJ” Murray, Jr., disappeared from the parking lot of Rookies Sports Bar on the night of Oct. 18, 2011. He had borrowed his father’s truck to go barhopping with friends that night.
The truck was still in the parking lot, but his cell phone was found in a nearby ditch.
“I still can’t believe it’s been a year. I am told, ‘time heals all wounds’, but for me the pain and sense of loss hasn’t diminished much over the last twelve months. We all miss him so much,” Justin Snyder, Murray’s cousin, said.
::snipping2::There is still an on going investigation according to Lt. Dan Norris of the Montgomery County Sheriff Office.
“We would desperately like answers to what happened that night and to know where TJ is,” Snyder said. “The ‘not knowing’ has been the hardest part for me personally.”
This isn’t the only tragedy to strike the Murray family in the last year- on July 17, William Murray, one of TJ’s three younger brothers, drowned while swimming in the Guadalupe River near New Braunfels.
“With TJ missing and then losing Will in July, our feelings of loss and grief have been overwhelming,” Snyder said. “The last year has been very hard, an emotional roller coaster.”
Snyder often updates a Facebook page dedicated to helping find TJ. The “Bring TJ Murray Home Safe” page has more than 6,000 people devoted to finding him and praying for the family.
