Two-year old boy missing in Bellevue

A two-year old boy went missing in Bellevue this morning near the 2400 block of 112th Ave. N.E.

According to police, the boy’s mother ran out of gas near that location, taking another child, age four, with her but leaving the two-year old in the vehicle. She returned an hour later and the boy was gone.  ::MonkeyNoNo::

Sky Metalwala is ½ Native America, ½ Caucasian with brown eyes, dark buzz cut hair and was last seen as he is in the picture, wearing a hooded sweathshirt with striped Carter pants.

Wouldn't it make more sense for the mom and both children to stay with the car until help came?  Or if she had to leave, why didn't she take both boys?  It doesn't make sense.   ::MonkeyNoNo::

BELLEVUE, Wash. - Around 6 p.m., police suspended a search in the area where a 2-year-old boy disappeared Sunday morning, saying they are confident the child is not in the immediate vicinity. But they continue to follow up on other leads.  ::snipping2::

I don't see why she would take 1 child and not the oth. Makes no sense at all. Left a 2 yr old in the car by himself for an hour? Crazy 

Bellevue has a lot of cameras around town and is quite busy.  Would be very surprised if this is not solved fairly quickly.

That said, this is just heartbreaking!!  Sometimes reading these stories I forget to filter and find myself asking why I am here?  So much sadness and cruelty in our world!

Then I look at my husband and my children and I know there is great goodness, also.

God be with this precious little brown baby named Sky.  His smile looks like it would light up a whole room.

According to court records, both parents were cited in December 2009 for leaving a child unattended.  An attorney tells KING-5 back then the child was left in the car for a shorter period than Sunday's case, but a passerby in the parking lot spotted the child and called police.
 
Court records said among other stipulations, both parents were required to complete parenting courses.
 
Bellevue Police would not comment on whether the parents' background was pertinent to this case, but said they are keeping all scenarios on the table.

FBI joins search for missing toddler

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- Sources tell KOMO News the FBI has joined the search for 2-year-old Sky Metalwala, who vanished after he was left alone in a car in Bellevue on Sunday morning.
The boy's mother told police she ran out of gas in the 2400 block of 112th Avenue NE and left the boy alone inside the unlocked car while she her 4-year-old daughter went to get gas. When she returned an hour later just before 10 a.m., Sky was gone.

Sunday evening, police were tracing back all the places the child had been before the disappearance, including an apartment complex in Redmond.

"He's still missing, we don't know where he is," said Sam Metalwala, the boy's uncle. "They just told us to wait by the phone... we haven't heard anything, they haven't told us anything."
 ::snipping2::Investigators say the boy's car seat was still in the car and there were no signs of forced entry. Police initiated a reverse 911 call in the area to alert residents to the boy, and King County Search and Rescue tracking dogs helped search the nearby wooded area.

But by Sunday evening, officials called off the search in the area where the car was left.

"They feel very confident they've been able to search the surrounding area where the child might have wandered off to," said Officer Carla Iafrate with Bellevue police. "Our detectives with the Bellevue Police Department will be looking through the night, following up on other leads."

What are the chances that a kidnapper/pervert just happened by?  It could have happened but ... it makes sense that any passing motorist intent on wrongdoing would have been interested in the abandoned vehicle.  IMO

Leaving a 2 year old in an unlocked car???   ::MonkeyMad::  Insane!  Her excuse will be that the two of them would have been too much to handle walking to get help.  She felt he would be safe strapped in his car seat.  Why lock the door, when a window could be broken if someone wanted to get in.  Which means the car meant more than her son.   jmoo

The FBI has joined the search for a toddler missing since Sunday morning after his mother said she left him alone for an hour in an unlocked car in Bellevue, Wash.

The mother, whose name has not been released by police, said she was driving with her two children when she had run out of gas on busy 112th Ave. So she and her 4-year-old trekked about a mile to a nearby gas station to Northtowne Chevron Service, leaving 2-year-old Sky Metalwala in the car. When they returned to the 4-door silver Acura an hour later, she said the boy was gone.

Holy crap, my heart was breaking listening to those kids screaming. She is not making it any easier for them. She says on one of the recordings that he ( the dad) kept that little girl away from her ( the mum ) for 7 months. I wonder what happened there.

The woman reportedly told police that the car was not locked.  

The toddler is of Indian and Caucasian descent, with brown eyes and dark hair, according to police. He was reportedly last seen wearing a dark green hooded sweatshirt and blue and gray-striped pants.

Biryukova was interviewed by detectives Sunday night, while the 4-year-old girl was being looked after by family members, according to the station.

The woman had previously been cited for leaving a child unattended in a vehicle. In 2009, Redmond police cited Biryukova and her husband, Solomon Metalwala, for leaving a child unattended in a vehicle. The case was dismissed after they agreed to probation, community service and a 10-week parenting class.

About 50 people, including police with tracking dogs, fanned out around the area Sunday in their search for the child, Bellevue police spokeswoman Carla Iafrate told the station.

Iafrate said the boy's parents were cooperating.

Anyone with information on the boy's whereabouts is being urged to call 911.

enter the parents names and accept the "disclaimer"  and you will see that there is a trial set for the dissolution on the 14th of this month.....you will also see there have been restraining orders and changes of judges and lots of things going on with this divorse.....obviously ALOT of emotion and drama.

I drove down to where her car was when she left the baby last night and there was still a Bellevue Police car, a Bellevue Police Van marked bicycle unit and a HUGE FOX news van.  The closest gas station would probably be a 10 minute walk,,not so far at all.  I use to live right near by and now I am about 2 miles from where she left the car.

I asked about the parents lineage because if they are that is some interesting dynamics going on there.  Anyway he went missing during mom's watch so far.

But when he says he is going to call the police, the truth is...the police are not in a position to handle all these types of incidents....I know, I've been in the middle of a similar situation....the police will NOT interfere in custody transfers....they may come out and speak to the people...but they CAN not enforse any custody orders.......

New Name

The S appears to stand for Sadruddin.

Altho the northwest area obviously has Native Americans but we also have a large population from India due to Microsoft.....I have looked and there is a Software Developer working for that company that "could" be the father of Julia...Does that all sound confusing?  sorry...

Search for missing boy shifts to mother's Redmond home

BELLEVUE, Wash. - FBI investigators are now lending their expertise in the case of a 2-year-old Bellevue boy who disappeared after his mother says she left him in an unlocked car that had run out of gas.
Police said this morning that there are many unanswered questions regarding the boy's disappearance.
Police say last night they obtained consent to search the mother's vehicle and her apartment in Redmond. The search continued this morning in the area surrounding her apartment.
Crime scene tape was seen on a door leading to a trash area next to her apartment.

Thanks Spodie for that information. It doesn't sound like her story holds water.....I hope she didn't hurt this baby to get back at the husband. I am more inclined to believe she is hiding the child somehow.

A shopper who heard the baby crying called police, and a responding officer reported that the car felt cold.

The couple had been together for 14 years, married since 2003 and separated in March 2010, court records show. In June 2010, the same month Metalwala filed for divorce, Biryukova, 30, filed for a protection order on behalf of herself and their two children.

She said Metalwala, 36, had a severe anger problem, was verbally abusive and that he had beat her for the first time on Christmas Day, just weeks after the incident at the Target parking lot. The reason was that she had allowed Sky to sleep later than expected, she said.

"He became furious like I have never seen him before, he grabbed me by my hair (in front of our 3½ year old daughter), dragged me into our hallway, threw me down on the floor and then threw me against a decorative column we have in the entrance of our home," Biryukova wrote. "He continued to assault me with his feet - by kicking me and then he took out his car keys and continued to scratch me in any area he could."

The abuse escalated after that, with Solomon telling her to go live on the street and work as a prostitute, she said.

"The most, most recent have been his threats to kill me if I say anything against him or if in any way I proceed with action of seeking custody of our two small children," Biryukova added. "I live in constant fear for my life and my children's life. Please investigate and help me!"

He responded that she had mental health issues and that he feared for the safety of the children when they were in her care.

A man who answered the phone at King Street Kafe and Market, a shop Metalwala owns in Seattle's Pioneer Square neighborhood, referred calls to a Leslie Clay Terry III, a lawyer who represented the couple in the reckless endangerment case. Terry did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- The father of a missing Bellevue toddler took an hours-long polygraph test on Monday night, but the results were said to be inconclusive.

An attorney representing Solomon Metalwala said he believes the reason for the inconclusive results is his client's fatigue. Attorney Clay Terry said Metalwala is "exhausted" as he hadn't slept much since his son disappeared on Sunday. Metalwala will take another polygraph test on Tuesday to clear his name, Terry said.

Investigators searched a 20-block area and even went door to door but found no sign of him. The FBI, King County Sheriff's Office and a King County helicopter were enlisted to help.

Officials also said Monday that no gas can was found near the car despite the mother's account that she went to get gas after the car ran out of fuel. The car also started for police.

According to a declaration filed by the boys' father in February 2011, Biryukova began demonstrating "very odd behavior" in 2008 when she became obsessed with cleaning. He said she had mental health problems and was involuntarily committed to a mental clinic in 2010.

What I'm reading in some articles on the internet it seems that the car was not out of gas ( despite her story) she didn't bring any gas back with her, she called a friend from the gas station to give her a ride back to the car just to discover that her son is missing and  then she starts the car without a problem! The whole thing sounded "fishy" from the get go imo, starting with the mom's story she ran out of gas and took the four year old daughter with her, but left the two year old in the car.  That's bad, but it continues to go downhill from there.  The more we read and learn, the worse it gets.   ::MonkeyNoNo::

Guys how busy is that road she left the car on? Is it possible that nobody would see an unattended child in a car? Somebody must have seen something if what she is saying is the truth. Also have you realized that she's been awfully quiet since it all happened? She's not talking with the media, no public plea to return her son. I really don't know what to think of it.

Detectives have questioned relatives, family friends, neighbors -- everyone close to the family of 2-year-old Sky Metalwala, said Bellevue police spokeswoman Carla Iafrate.
The last time someone recalled seeing him was about two weeks ago, she said. Iafrate said she didn't immediately have other details of the sighting, except that it was reported by someone who was not a family member.
The boy was reported missing Sunday morning in the city of 122,000 across Lake Washington from Seattle.
His mother, Julia Biryukova, told police she left him sleeping alone in her unlocked car for an hour after it ran out of gas, while she and her 4-year-old daughter walked to a gas station. When they returned to the car, the boy was gone, Biryukova reported.
Frustrated investigators said Tuesday they have no leads in the disappearance, which came amid a divorce and bitter custody fight between the toddler's parents. Investigators have invited the boy's relatives to take polygraph tests in hopes of shaking loose any clues to his whereabouts.

Police made the announcement Tuesday as detectives began focusing their search on the area surrounding her Redmond apartment.

Biryukova told police she was driving her two children to Overlake Hospital Medical Center in Bellevue because her younger child, Sky Metalwala, wasn't feeling well. She said she ran out of gas on 112th Avenue, a two-way street that borders Interstate 520, so she and her 4-year-old daughter trekked about a mile to a nearby gas station, Northtowne Chevron Service, leaving Sky in the car.

Police said she then called a friend, who took her to her car about an hour later. But when they returned to the two-door silver Acura, Biryukova said, the boy was gone.

"We continue to invite her to take a polygraph and as of yet she has not taken one," said Bellevue police spokeswoman Carla Iafrate, adding that Sky's mother did allow police to search her car and the inside of her home.

Why would a woman who had previously been cited for leaving the boy alone in a car do it again, reportedly while driving the sick toddler to a hospital? Why did her car, which she said ran out of gas, start up when examined by police? And why haven't police found any relatives, friends or neighbors who recall seeing the boy in the two weeks before he vanished?

Friend of missing boy's mom speaks with investigators

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- Bellevue police interviewed a woman believed to be a friend of Julia Biryukova, the mother of missing Bellevue 2-year-old boy Sky Metalwala, late Tuesday night.

Shelbi Owen spent four hours with investigators. Police believe Owen is the woman Biryukova called for help after Biryukova said she ran out of gas and left Sky in the car to walk to a gas station.

Owen reportedly told police she was shocked to see Sky's mother walking on Sunday morning without her son.  Investigators say the last time someone saw the toddler was two weeks ago.

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- KING 5 News has learned that authorities searching for missing two-year-old Sky Metalwala inspected two garbage transfer stations and a landfill on Tuesday and now believe there is the possibility that they may need to begin digging through 50,000 tons of garbage.

FBI agents, among other law enforcement, visited the Houghton Transfer Station in Kirkland and the Factoria Transfer Station in Bellevue, as well as the Cedar Hills landfill where garbage that passes through those facilities is buried.

No information on what they found was provided.  It is not uncommon in cases like this to trace garbage. Earlier this week authorities searched Dumpsters and trash chutes in the building where Julia Biryukova lives with her children.

SEATTLE -- As Bellevue Police struggle to make sense of the story provided by a missing toddler's mother, investigators are looking at a recent TV episode of "Law and Order: SVU."
Police admit there are some similarities between the NBC program, which aired Saturday night, and the disappearance of 2-year-old Sky Metalwala, who was reported missing Sunday.
"I know that there's several folks up in the operations center, the command post, that have taken a look at that episode," said Maj. Mike Johnson with the Bellevue Police Department.  "[They] have commented that it is strikingly similar in nature."
In the episode, a mother tells police that she left her baby in a car when she ran into a convenience store to buy diapers, then claims the car was stolen with the baby inside.
In an emotional moment, the fictional mother screams, "They stole my car, my son was in the backseat, someone stole my baby!"
As the plot unravels, investigators discover the stolen-car story was a lie, and the parents were covering up their child's death.  The parents say they made up the story because they thought they had accidentally killed the child.  But it turns out the baby died of natural causes, and the parents are never prosecuted in the "Law and Order" program.
"It's not unheard of that television or film can inspire people or give people ideas," aid Barry Mitzman, who teaches strategic communications at Seattle University.  "It's not common, but it's not unknown."

A judge Wednesday ruled that the mother of missing 2-year-old Sky Metalwala can't have any contact with her 4-year-old daughter.

Julia Biryukova, the boy's mother, was a no-show at the hearing, on advice from her lawyer. Attorney Veronica Freitas told KIRO 7 she advised Biryukova not to show up because of the media attention on the case.

The judge noticed Biryukova's absence and ruled she shouldn't be allowed to have contact with Sky's sister. The judge also ruled against a custody petition by the children's father, Soloman Metalwala, who was in attendance.

"It would be a risk to return the child to the father at this time specifically because she has not seen him since December of 2010," Judge Elizabeth Castilleja said.

That's when Metalwala was served a protection order.

I realize we do not know the specifics of why Solomon has been denied custody or visitation for the last year but I wonder how much sense it makes for the little girl to live with strangers in a foster care situation than it is for her to go be with her own biological father?

How’s this for uncanny: In the episode, a young mother leaves her son in a car when she ducks into a convenience store for diapers. When she comes back, he’s gone.

Search Continues for Missing 2-Year-Old Washington Boy

NANCY GRACE, HOST: Breaking news tonight, live, Washington state. Mystery surrounding the disappearance of a 2-year-old little boy, vanishing from Mommy`s silver Acura sports car after she says she runs out of gas. But when she leaves the Acura on the side of the road, Mommy takes the 4- year-old sister but not the 2-year-old baby. Baby Sky, allegedly asleep, still strapped in a carseat.

Bombshell tonight. Cops say no sign of forced entry and the car, no gas can -- the car starts right up. Cops confirm they cannot find a single relative who sees the baby for two full weeks.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: To put it in people terms, a lunatic.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Said she ran out of gas and walked more than a mile to this Bellevue gas station.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Why?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: She says she was taking him to the hospital because he was ill. What made him ill?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I don`t know.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: She took her 4-year-old daughter with her, but says she left her sleeping son in his carseat.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Why would you leave with him in the car, in the cold?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I can`t imagine for a minute doing something like that.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Two years ago, when the parents left this same child, then just a baby, sleeping in his carseat as the two shopped.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: But clearly, this family has had a history of doing this.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Why?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Sky, age 2, disappears this past Sunday morning.

GRACE: Good evening. I`m Nancy Grace. I want to thank you for being with us. Bombshell tonight. Mystery surrounding the disappearance of a 2- year-old little boy, allegedly vanishing from Mommy`s silver Acura sports car after she says she runs out of gas. But the cops say no sign of forced entry in the car, no gas can. The car starts right up when they try to crank it. And cops confirm they cannot find a single relative placing the boy alive in the last two weeks.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Why is Julia out there in the morning, at 8:50 in the morning?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: She said her son was feeling ill.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: She says that she left in her stalled (ph) car.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Julia Byrukova (ph) said she ran out of gas and walked more than a mile to this Bellevue gas station.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I don`t get it.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We have extended an invitation to Mom to participate in a polygraph, and she has declined.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Foul play is under consideration here.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The patrol officer at the scene did start the car and verified that there was a little bit of fuel in there.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Mom`s story has (INAUDIBLE)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: The whole story does not add up. There`s something missing.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: That a timeline is very troubling. All of the OCD issues.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Besides the mother, nobody has (INAUDIBLE) in the last two weeks other than one neighbor.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I`m going to stay hopeful. The police department`s going to stay hopeful.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Fear (ph) in my mind that she did something to Sky.

GRACE: Hello, everyone. We are live in the search for baby Sky. Mommy says that she apparently ran out of gas and walked over a mile to the closest gas station? She chose to take her 4-year-old little girl with her, leaving the 2-year-old little boy strapped in a carseat, allegedly asleep? When she gets back, she says the boy is gone.

Straight out to Casey McNerthney with Seattlepi.com. Casey, thanks for being with us. What can you tell me?

CASEY MCNERTHNEY, SEATTLEPI.COM (via telephone): Well, we heard yesterday from police just what you were saying, that the only person who has seen 2-year-old Sky in the last two weeks was a neighbor. The neighbor couldn`t pin down exactly what day he was last seen. We know that the boy doesn`t have a passport, but the mother does. And police have expanded the search to her Kirkland (ph) apartment and are also working with the FBI to try and trace him down.

GRACE: Everyone, you are seeing pictures of baby Sky. He is just 2 years old.

To you, Alexis Weed. There`s so much background to this case. Mommy has been diagnosed as OCD. And typically, I wouldn`t be concerned about that except the levels we are hearing about, where she wouldn`t let anyone sleep on the beds after they had been made because they looked perfect, she wouldn`t allow food in the home for periods of time because she thought it was dirty, would not let anyone use the bathroom because she thought that was dirty -- is it true that your research reveals she often threatened that she would not feed the children?

ALEXIS WEED, NANCY GRACE PRODUCER: Right, Nancy. This information is coming from court documents that were filed by the father in this bitter divorce case that the couple is having. The father is claiming that she had such severe OCD that she would vacuum in straight lines, that she would not keep food in the cupboards, not keep food in her refrigerator, leaving the kids with no food in the home.

He says that he would fear that these kids wouldn`t even be fed properly, that she would choose to clean the house rather than feed her kids.

GRACE: We are taking your calls. Out to Kim in South Carolina. Hi, Kim. What`s your question? I think I`ve got Kim with me. Kim, are you there?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: You mean Tim?

GRACE: Hi. Hi, Tim. What`s your question, dear?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Oh, yes, and I`m in South Dakota, not South Carolina. Well, my question was -- well, recently, there`s a kid that went missing for six days in Virginia, Robert Wood (ph). And I was wondering, are they still looking for this Sky? I mean, what if she really did leave him in the car? I guess it`s happened before. Maybe he wandered off. Because I know my 2-year-old could unbuckle one of them carseats.

GRACE: You know what, Tim. That`s a great question. Two years old, he could possibly have unbuckled one of the -- the carseat. It was one of those seats that have five different points of restraint. Also, it`s my understanding that the Acura sports car was parked up a hill, which would have made it more difficult for the boy to get out, open the door and shut it. But your point is good.

By the way, on Robert Wood, the missing boy, autism -- he was found six days after vanishing, found alive.

Back to you, Alexis. What can you tell me in response to Tim in South Dakota`s question?

WEED: Nancy, I can tell you that the police did search immediately when this boy was reported missing. They searched around where the vehicle was left. They used search dogs, and they say they feel -- police are very, very confident that he is nowhere in that area, Nancy.

GRACE: Joining me right now is a special guest, Major Mike Johnson with the Bellevue police. Major, thank you for being with us. Major, what can you tell me about what police have done to find the boy?

I mean, I`ve got twins, and we actually do practice runs where one gets on my back and I hold the other one. One`s 50 pounds. One is about 43 pounds. I can still carry each of them in each arm, if I have to.

Tell me what police are doing to verify her story, if you can.

MAJ. MIKE JOHNSON, BELLEVUE PD (via telephone): It`s a great point and one that many parents have mentioned to us in regard to -- you know, you make it work. If you have two kids, you need to abandon your vehicle, you make it work and you take the kids with you. We get that.

To the caller`s point -- the indications are from the search and rescue dogs that, you know, are experts at this kind of thing, that Sky did not climb out of the car and walk away. There`s no indication of that and there`s no scent to indicate that that happened.

GRACE: So -- everyone, with us, Major Mike Johnson, also taking your calls. So that says to me that you have actually used scent dogs, bloodhounds, right?

JOHNSON: That`s correct. King (ph) County search and rescue -- dozens of them, literally, were out there Sunday afternoon and evening, canvassing that entire area, looking for signs of Sky without any luck.

GRACE: To Dr. Patricia Saunders -- I want to ask you -- clinical psychologist joining us out of New York -- Dr. Patricia, what can you tell me about this level of OCD, obsessive-compulsive disorder? I also know that on one occasion, she was involuntarily committed. I also know that at one juncture, she was prescribed lithium.

PATRICIA SAUNDERS, CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST: Well, OCD refers to obsessive-compulsive disorder, obsession to thought, compulsion to act. It`s usually fairly contained to ideas about dirtiness and filth and disease. But this woman was diagnosed as severe OCD. It`s highly unusual for people to have dreams of killing and strangling their children.

Also, Nancy, she was on anti-psychotic medication when she was in the hospital. Sometimes OCD is prodromal, meaning the tip of an iceberg of more severe psychology, such as a schizo-affective disorder. In other words, this woman may have been delusional and possibly murderous.

GRACE: When you say -- what did you say, schizo what?

SAUNDERS: Schizo-affective disorder. It`s kind of a cross between manic-depressive illness and schizophrenia. It`s highly dangerous and very difficult to control.

GRACE: You know, I originally said, Somebody get me a DNA match on the boy. I want to make sure that this is the boy`s biological father. But when you see the father holding this boy, I don`t need DNA. He looks like he spit him right out of his mouth. He looks exactly like his daddy.

I want to go out to Victoria Taft, radio talk show host joining us, AM 860 KPAM, joining us out of Portland. Victoria, a real pleasure to have you with us. Victoria, it`s a real pleasure to have you with us. What can you tell me about the status of their marriage?

VICTORIA TAFT, RADIO TALK SHOW HOST, AM 860 KPAM: Well, thank you very much for having me on, Nancy. I appreciate it. And the status of the marriage was almost a dissolved marriage. It was acrimonious, to say the least. There was a power play between the husband, clearly, and the wife. He would call her crazy. She would pretend she was crazy, she said, in order to get his affection. In other words, on several times, it says in the court papers that she...

GRACE: OK, wait a minute!

TAFT: ... tried to say that she was...

GRACE: Wait a minute, Victoria!

TAFT: What`s that?

GRACE: That`s a surefire way to hold on to a man is act like you`re insane! OK, go ahead.

TAFT: Suicidal. She claimed she was suicidal in order to get his affection, she said. This is what she told the psychiatrist when she was voluntarily admitted. And by the time she got out, her scale that psychiatrists apparently use to determine how affected someone is, was reduced significantly.

But the fact that she feigned suicidal tendencies in order to keep her husband, which is what she claimed to have done, is something that should be troublesome to everyone.

GRACE: Everybody, take a look at little Sky. Sky, 2 years old, 2 feet, 2 inches, 39 pounds, dark brown hair, brown eyes, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, black and aqua blue Carter (ph) sweatpants and white socks. Tip line, 425-542-2564. We have an all-star panel taking your calls.

If we know the people that were supposed to have been there, we can eliminate them and match them up with the DNA that we found and eliminate that as a possible lead or suspect.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: The investigation of a missing 2-year-old boy.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Julia Byrukova said she ran out of gas and walked more than a mile to this Bellevue gas station.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Leaving Sky, who was buckled in his carseat.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: They got back to the car, and the child was gone.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: This stinks to high heaven.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: It didn`t run out of gas, according to the authorities.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: She told us that Sky was not feeling well.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: She was on her way to a local hospital.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: The mother`s story doesn`t seem to add up.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: You don`t leave a sick child, supposedly, in a car.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: So far, we`ve only been able to locate one person that`s seen Sky within the last two weeks, and that was a neighbor.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: That`s the blockbuster there. Nobody has seen this child?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: The whole story does not add up. There`s something missing. And find out what`s missing, that will lead us to our child.

GRACE: Welcome back. We are live and taking your calls. Baby Sky missing. Mommy says she runs out of gas, but only takes her 4-year-old little girl with her, leaving the 2-year-old on the side of the road, strapped in a carseat?

I want you remind you, Mommy is not a suspect. Mommy has not been named a suspect.

Let`s go out to the lines. Crystal in Kentucky. Hi, Crystal. What`s your question?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Hi, Nancy. Just briefly, I`ll miss you on "Dancing." I love to see the twins. My question is, it was reported last night that both the parents had left the child before in the car alone. Do you know why they were still in the home?

GRACE: You know what? Good question. Out to Alexis Weed. Weigh in.

WEED: Nancy, the parents previously were cited for an incident in 2009. This is December out in the Northwest, so temperature`s 27 degrees. The couple was cited for leaving little Sky at 3 months old in their car, in their Cadillac Escalade, while they shopped at Target.

The parents told police when they arrived on the scene after a fellow shopper called 911, saying they heard a baby crying in the car -- cops arrive, parents say, Well, we were just in Target for about 20 minutes. But it turns out from surveillance tapes that shows the parents were in that Target for more like an hour.

GRACE: You know what? It`s just so disturbing. All the signals were there that there was a problem. Repeat, Mommy not a suspect.

Unleash the lawyers. Joining us out of Atlanta, Kirby Clements, former prosecutor now a defense attorney. Out of Miami, Lorna Owens. OK, Kirby, give me your best shot.

KIRBY CLEMENTS, DEFENSE ATTORNEY: Well, I think that this is a mystery. The mother is not a suspect. There`s no evidence linking her to a crime. There`s no evidence that the baby is deceased. Someone else could have taken him there. The father doesn`t have these clean hands. Everyone`s making him seem like a concerned dad, but he also left that boy in the car, in 27-degree weather for, like, an hour.

So I would suggest that what we have here is a genuine mystery of a missing child, and people ought to be more sympathetic to this woman.

GRACE: You know what, Kirby? Everything that you just said was true, but your argument doesn`t make any sense because you`re trying to point the finger at the daddy. The daddy wasn`t there at the time the baby went missing, so he`s not even an issue. And he agreed to...

CLEMENTS: Oh, no...

(CROSSTALK)

GRACE: Yes, you just brought him up. You just said he didn`t have...

CLEMENTS: OK, and by the way, he didn`t pass a polygraph, either.

GRACE: As I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted -- his polygraph was inconclusive, and he`s agreed to take yet another polygraph, while Mommy refuses to take even a single polygraph.

But let me get back on track to respond to what you said. You said you`re not pointing the finger at the daddy, but you did say Daddy doesn`t have clean hands because he`s left the baby alone before, too. Well, you know, that`s bad enough in itself, but that he`s not involved in any way on the day the baby goes missing.

We have no indication that the baby has been kidnapped, as you just said. And you reiterated Mommy`s not a suspect. That`s not what I asked you. When you go in to defend a case in court, is that what you tell a jury, Kirby Clements? They`re not a suspect. I don`t think so. I just said she`s not a suspect. I want to hear your theory!

CLEMENTS: My theory at this point, is, like I said at the beginning, which was we have a genuine mystery. That`s what I said. And as to the father, I`m not pointing the finger at him, but we are sitting here talking about the mother`s mental health...

GRACE: Back on him.

CLEMENTS: ... the mother`s mental health...

GRACE: OK...

CLEMENTS: ... issues because the Daddy...

GRACE: OK, never mind, Kirby. The daddy was not even around that day.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: All he wants is his son. Solomon Metalwala says nothing prepared him for the news that Sky has disappeared.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Where is he? Who`s he with?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We have never had trouble reaching her. She has responded to every question we`ve asked. Whether we like the answer or not, that`s neither here nor there. But the point is, she`s available, she`s responsive, she`s cooperating in that sense. You`re as frustrated and the public, I`m sure, is as frustrated as we are in the fact that Mom isn`t willing to come in and provide a polygraph. To be quite honest, that looks suspicious, and we`re puzzled by that.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: The case of a missing 2-year-old boy in suburban Seattle.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The whole story does not add up. There`s something missing.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: The mother told police her car ran out of gas and she walked to a gas station with her 4-year-old, leaving Sky, who was buckled in his carseat.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: She says that Sky was missing when they got back to the car.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: People have come forward and said they saw the vehicle and no child in it.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Police are finally saying, yes, they suspect foul play in this disappearance.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Really, really bizarre case.

GRACE: Welcome back. Where is baby Sky? We are taking your calls. Now out to Marc Klaas, president and founder of Klaas Kids Foundation. Marc, what do you make of it?

MARC KLAAS, KLAAS KIDS FOUNDATION (via telephone): Well, Nancy, I have great faith in search and rescue professionals. If there were dozens of them around the car and they say that the little boy did not exit the car on his own or did not exit the car and move off in another direction, I firmly believe that. That does not mean that they shouldn`t continue to search that area, however.

But if nobody`s seen Sky for two weeks, I think it`s quite possible that she has spent that time writing her script as to exactly how she was going to explain this away. And if she has a cleaning compulsion, I think it`s really unlikely that the authorities will find anything in her apartment.

I suspect that the true answer to this lies with the little girl, the little daughter that is now in protective custody, I think in a foster situation. And I think the authorities will be very, very careful as they continue to question her and try to elicit information to find out what really happened because she knows whether or not that little boy was in that car that day.

GRACE: Yes, and at that age, age 4, she`s able to communicate that. Alexis Weed, what do we know about the little girl and her story?

WEED: Nancy, the little girl was interviewed the day immediately after that Sky was missing. At that time, she said, yes, Sky had been in the car that day along with her. But then the child was re-interviewed yesterday, and police said yesterday that those results were really inconclusive, that nothing significant came from that interview.

GRACE: To Sheryl McCollum, crime analyst, director of cold case squad, and with the Institute of the Polygraph Analysis Expert. (ph) Hey, Sheryl, when you are OCD -- it`s tough to have a 2-year-old if you`re OCD. Two-year-olds are not neat as a pin.

SHERYL MCCOLLUM, CRIME ANALYST: They are not neat. And Nancy, to me, where you start with this case is her trash. You look in every trash can, every trash bag. You go to the dump, if necessary. If there is no evidence of diapers or wet ones or anything in the last two weeks, that child has not been there.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: What I`m trying to do is get the context of why the court had left two children in her custody.

UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: But that`s a huge --

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: This stinks to high heaven, which, of course, is why we`re talking about it.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: What they said was, that the mother had told them that she was on her way to a local hospital.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: My stomach is telling me this is not good for baby Sky.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Well, did the mom have a working cell phone and if she did why didn`t she call the police, 911?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: There`s a lot of things about this story that they`re still investigating that don`t seem to add up.

JANE VELEZ-MITCHELL, HLN HOST: Is it possible for a 2-year-old boy to get out of a five-point restraint car seat?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I guess if your name is Houdini, it`s possible. No. Absolutely not.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Besides the mother, nobody has seen this child in the last two weeks other than a neighbor more than one week ago.

NANCY GRACE, HLN HOST: Let`s go back to the facts as we know them. The search for baby Sky goes on. Mommy says that she`s driving along with baby Skye, 2 years old, and a little girl, 4 years old, when her car seemingly runs out of gas. She gets out of the car, gets the 4-year-old girl, starts walking, leaving the 2-year-old strapped in a car seat on the side of road.

She walks a little over a mile to a gas station, gets back over an hour has passed. She says Sky is gone.

With me, Major Mike Johnson from the Bellevue Police Department.

Major Johnson, again, thank you for being with us. Am I missing something in this -- in this recitation of the facts? Isn`t it true that cops went back, and when they turned the key in the car it cranked up just fine?

MAJOR MIKE JOHNSON, BELLEVUE, WA POLICE DEPT., INVESTIGATING CASE: That is true. It did start for us. And we noticed there seem to be a little bit of gasoline in the car. We`re working on the forensic examination of the vehicle now and will have more on that later.

I also wanted to add that the other part of the story that puzzles us a little bit is that mom tells us that the little boy, Sky, was very sick, and the reason she was traveling to Bellevue was to get him to a hospital. Sort of adds to the troubling nature of the fact that she leaves him behind in the car.

GRACE: What was the nature of the illness, Major Johnson?

JOHNSON: I don`t have any details on what was wrong with him yet.

GRACE: Huh. OK. Did the father, Alexis Weed, know anything about the child being sick?

ALEXIS WEED, NANCY GRACE PRODUCER: No. We`ve heard nothing from the father about any knowledge that this child was ill. Just that she told police officers when she went back to the car after that 911 call was placed, that that`s where she was going. She was headed to a hospital.

And mind you, Nancy, this is not the closest hospital to the mother`s home.

GRACE: And again, to the nature of the illness, Alexis, what do we know?

WEED: We don`t know. We only know that the mother told police that`s where she was headed. She was going to get her boy help.

GRACE: And to Victoria Taft, talk show host, AM 860 KPAM -- Victoria, did she not have a cell phone?

VICTORIA TAFT, RADIO TALK SHOW HOST, AM 860 KPAM, COVERING STORY: No. Apparently she did not have a cell phone and in fact had to get to the gas station to call her friend to come back and get her, to go back to the car and get baby Sky presumably with a gas can which was nowhere to the found.

The other thing I`d like to know, Nancy, and I know this is something that`s right in your wheelhouse, was there any surveillance tape at the apartment? Did she have Sky in her arms? When she left the apartment she`s supposedly go get him some help at a hospital? That might tell us something as well.

GRACE: You know that`s a good question, Victoria Taft.

Back to Major Mike Johnson. I`ve been wondering about that and whether roadside video, practically everywhere you go. At red lights, at toll booths, all along the highways. You see those cameras on the highway. Were there cameras in this stretch of road?

JOHNSON: There are cameras within the area. What we`re trying to pin down right now actively is, is there some images that were captured between the time she left her apartment in Redmond Sunday morning and the time she arrived to that stretch of highway in Bellevue a short time later.

We`re canvassing the area, were searching for every possible option for camera footage that may have been captured along the route that morning but so far we have nothing.

GRACE: Major, when she got to the gas station, did she speak to anyone?

JOHNSON: She did. She spoke to the attendant at the station. Asked for a gas can. She was told that they didn`t have one available to give her. And I think it was at about that time that her friend arrived that she had called for help.

GRACE: OK. Did she call from the chevron telephone?

JOHNSON: Yes. I believe there`s a pay phone in the area that she used to communicate with her friend who ultimately called us for help.

GRACE: This is what I don`t understand.

Everybody, with me, Major Mike Johnson out of Bellevue.

She`s driving an Acura sports car. I heard that they had an Escalade back at the Target. That that`s a very expensive Cadillac SUV. They can afford that but they don`t have cell phones, Major? What`s that all about?

JOHNSON: What mom told us -- what Julia told us was that she had a cell phone but she left that at home along with her purse that morning.

GRACE: Well, wait a minute. Wasn`t she taking the baby to the hospital, Major?

JOHNSON: Yes, that`s what she told us.

GRACE: Well, then, where`s all the insurance information and the driver`s license and all that you`ve got to show at the hospital? You just can`t walk in the hospital. I can`t, anyway. I can`t even cash a check without five kinds of ID much less go to a hospital.

JOHNSON: Well, that`s questions like those that have us concerned about mom`s story. You`re exactly right.

GRACE: Repeat. Mom not named a suspect at this juncture.

To Derek in Montana. Hi, Derek. What`s your question?

DEREK, CALLER FROM MONTANA: Hi, Nancy. Great to be here with you. Thank you for all you do --

GRACE: Likewise.

DEREK: For crime victims. My brother Ryan was abducted and murdered in 1987 here in Montana, and so I sure appreciate everything that you do for victims around the nation. So I appreciate that.

GRACE: Thank you.

DEREK: My question is, what is the level of mom`s cooperation at this point? Is she still cooperating with authorities?

GRACE: Good question.

Major Johnson, I know that dad has taken a polygraph. It was inconclusive and I think he`s going to take another polygraph, because it`s my understanding he wants to get himself cleared as a suspect so he can get the daughter who`s in Child Protective Services.

What about mommy? Has she been cooperative?

JOHNSON: She has been to a certain extent. She has allowed us to drive the route that she took that morning with her. She gave us consent to search her apartment, she gave us consent to search her car. She is represented by an attorney and stopped short of cooperating with the polygraph at this point.

GRACE: So she won`t take a polygraph? Have you asked her to take a polygraph?

JOHNSON: We asked her specifically through her attorney to cooperate with the polygrapher and she declined that invitation.

GRACE: Major, have you guys checked the trash?

Our cold case expert, Sheryl McCollum, and we go way back in the trenches fighting crime, Major. Good question she had about, if there were diapers or wet wipes in her trash? Because with a 2-year-old, you`ve got to have that.

JOHNSON: Yes. That person is absolutely correct. Trash tells a lot of the story, and it`s something that we`re looking at. Something that we`re still looking at from multiple locations and will be a key part of the investigation as we move forward.

I cannot talk about specifically what we found in the trash yet.

GRACE: Yes. And you know what, Major, you`re right, because sometimes if you don`t have a sighting of that child for two weeks, with this lady being OCD, you know she put her trash out. So you`re headed to the dump, Major.

I know you climbed all the way up the ladder to become major, now you`re going to be peeking through trash.

You know, this is not the first time this has happened in a Cadillac Escalade, the child was left outside of a Target. Now mommy says she left the child on the side of the road, and the child is gone.

JOHNSON: When you hear this story that mom has told, you have to scratch your head and wonder, why? If that`s really what happened, why? You know, this kid was sick, is what we know. She was on the way to the hospital with him. Why, then -- forget about the sickness and being on the way to the hospital. Why would you leave a 2-year-old in the car? But add that in, and it`s certainly -- it certainly looks suspicious and we`ve got to look at that and figure out what all that means.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Everybody in the area knows the story, ran out of gas, got out of the car, left Sky who was sleeping in the car at the time in his car seat.

SOLOMON METALWALA, FATHER OF MISSING 2-YEAR-OLD SKY: Why? I don`t get it. Sky, he`s 2. He can walk.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: And she and her 4-year-old daughter walked to a nearby gas station. It was about a mile away.

METALWALA: Why would you leave him in the car? In the cold? For hour and a half?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: When they reached the car, the child wasn`t there.

UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: Officials are scrutinizing the mother`s story. They say when they arrived to find the vehicle in question they were able to start the car.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We`ve only been able to locate one person that has seen Sky within the last two weeks and that was a neighbor.

METALWALA: She has done something. I don`t know what she has done.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I don`t know if there`s been a crime yet.

METALWALA: The whole story does not add up. There`s something missing.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: It`s been over 48 hours, and there has been nobody that`s come forward telling us where Sky is.

GRACE: Welcome back. Where is baby Sky? We are taking your calls.

Straight you out to Dr. Dorothy Wiggins, pediatrician, joining us tonight.

Dr. Wiggins, question. Sky was strapped into a five-point safety restraining seat in the car. What does that mean as far as a 2-year-old being able to get out of it?

DR. DOROTHY WIGGINS, PEDIATRICIAN: I mean, that`s why you put a 2- year-old in a five-point restraint. So that they cannot get out while you`re operating your car. It will be very difficult for a sick 2-year-old as well to get out of a five-point harness. Now, they may get out of one portion of that and not the other portion, but to completely get out of that and a child is ill, that would be difficult for me to rationalize.

GRACE: You know, Dr. Wiggins, the thing -- hey, Liz, let me see that restraining -- that car seat again.

A lot of times the hard thing for them to do is to push down hard enough with enough force to release the seat belt.

WIGGINS: The bottom, yes.

GRACE: Would you agree?

WIGGINS: I totally agree with that. That`s exactly what`s difficult, and in a car seat that has those five-point harnesses, I mean, you`re going to have difficult points in more than one access. So that`s -- that`s definitely true.

GRACE: Yes, let`s see -- let`s see it again. Liz, it`s got -- Dr. Wiggins I think is talking about, she said the one down at the bottom. The ones across the chest you just snap, but the one that goes between the child`s leg, usually snaps into something, you have to push it really lard to get it released.

And Dr. Wiggins, let me ask you this. What does it mean to you that someone has been on lithium? What is that used for?

WIGGINS: Well, it can be used for multiple psychiatric illnesses, but the fact that the mom has been on hospitalized, has been on the medication, we obviously know she has some type of psychiatric illness. Where she is along the entire spectrum we don`t know, but there can definitely be points of time where she`s undermedicated, overmedicated and she`s just definitely at a risk for her children.

GRACE: Joining me right now is a special guest. Michael Tomkins, D. Michael Tomkins. He`s the divorce attorney for baby Sky`s father, Solomon.

Thank you for being with us, Mr. Tomkins. At what stage was the divorce?

D. MICHAEL TOMKINS, DIVORCE ATTORNEY FOR DAD OF MISSING 2-YEAR-OLD: The divorce was at the mediation stage, which, as you know, is an attempt by all the parties to avoid a trial and see if we can settle all the issues by all the parties, which was done November 1st at 1:30 a.m. after a marathon mediation that lasted 10 to 12 hours.

GRACE: My goodness. Ten to 12 hours? Is that normal?

TOMKINS: That`s -- that`s my personal record, and no one -- and everybody stayed, and the 50th floor of a downtown Seattle office building trying to hash it out, and within 24 to 36 hours after that mediation, the document was signed.

Julia wanted to have it overturned by the court, and sent us a letter indicating that she had been coerced and this was not her intention to sign off on the deal.

GRACE: Wow. OK.

TOMKINS: Very strange time.

GRACE: Given the fact that she no longer wanted to abide by the mediation, where did that land the whole thing?

TOMKINS: Well, it would have landed it in the middle of a contract battle, rather than a custody battle, as to -- with the validity and the enforceability of that agreement, but now everything is on hold and custody is the least of dad`s issues.

GRACE: Had it been acrimonious, D. Michael Tomkins --

TOMKINS: Very. Finger pointing for 18 months. Accusations of abuse, physical, mental, emotional. CPS, Child Protective Services got involved, reviewed everything. Helped that the father had never done anything improper. The finger pointing was continuing, and more aggressive, and more vociferous until the end of the mediation where everybody was exhausted, in tears, but done. That didn`t last very long. Did it?

GRACE: Unleash the lawyers in addition to D. Michael Tomkins joining us out of Seattle, Washington, tonight, he`s the divorce lawyer for baby Sky`s father Solomon.

Kirby Clemens and Lorna Owens. Also with me, clinical psychologist, Dr. Patricia Saunders.

OK, first to you, Dr. Pat. Have you noticed that when divorces are brewing or breakup is about to occur, incidents occur, like children go missing, violence occurs?

Again, mommy is not a suspect. Weigh in, Dr. Patricia.

PATRICIA SAUNDERS, CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST: Well, abduction of children is often part of parental alienation. One parent will try and punish the other by removing the child from them, and in some extreme cases, will kill them.

GRACE: Kirby Clements, Lorna Owens, again, mommy has not been named a suspect. Daddy agreeing to take another polygraph in order to get his little girl out of child custody.

What does that say to you, Lorna Owens, that they are in the middle of a very contentious divorce?

LORNA OWENS, DEFENSE ATTORNEY: It says to me that any of the parents could in fact be a suspect. What we know is that the father did his polygraph. It`s inconsistent and they want the mother to do it. If I were her attorney, based on his medical history -- her medical history, I wouldn`t do it.

GRACE: OK. Kirby?

KIRBY CLEMENTS, DEFENSE ATTORNEY: She`s absolutely correct. I mean several things. Number one, if a polygraph is done properly you should either get a real answer. The fact that the dad`s came back inconclusive - -

GRACE: That`s not true. You get inconclusive a lot of times.

A big congratulations to Leslie Miller. My friend who completed the New York marathon November 6th. To do it she has to miss her daughter`s 10th birthday on November 7th. Now that is dedication. But notice the doll in the photo. Sidney, her daughter, made an action figure. That`s mommy complete with bib number, ponytail, and the color of the outfit she wore in the race. She tells her daughter, you know, you`re never getting this Barbie back because I`m going to keep it forever. Along with that finisher medal and bib number.

SEATTLE -- The father of a missing Bellevue boy says he's holding out hope his son will be found and pleaded with the boy's mother to provide more information about where Sky Metalwala might be.

"I believe my son is coming back and I'm focusing on that," Sky's father, Solomon Metalwala, told KOMO News. "I don't focus on other kinds of theories, I'm just focusing on he's coming back and that's where I'm receiving my strength."

He says it's important that everyone hear about his missing son.

"I want the world to know to... find my son," he said. "Anything can happen, the more people know, the better it is."

Sky's disappearance came amid a bitter divorce and custody fight between Biryukova and Solomon Metalwala. During a tough mediation session that lasted about 12 hours last week, the parties reached a tentative agreement that would allow Metalwala to have some visitation with Sky and his older sister.

But two days later - and two days before she reported her son missing - Biryukova decided to pull out of the agreement, Metalwala's divorce attorney, D. Michael Tomkins, said Wednesday. In a letter sent by her attorney, Biryukova insisted that everyone at the mediation session had been against her and the settlement was unfair, Tomkins said.

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- Investigators are focusing on Julia Biryukova's car as they continue to search for clues in the case of Biryukova's missing two-year-old son, Sky Metalwala.

At a Thursday morning press conference, Bellevue Police Department Maj. Mike Johnson said investigators are testing the car Biryukova was driving Sunday when she said it ran out of gas, prompting her to leave Sky alone in the car.

The car, a silver 1998 Acura Integra, is at the police department's secure vehicle lab, Johnson said. It will be taken for a test drive so investigators can determine if any mechanical problems would have caused it to stop running on Sunday. On Wednesday, Johnson said police found a "sufficient amount of gas" in the car, enough to run it "for a considerable distance."
Johson continued to stress that police want more cooperation from Biryukova. "Our goal is to find Sky, and we believe Julie holds the key to that."

Biryukova is answering police questions through her attorney, and she has declined repeated requests that she take a polygraph.
A source close to Biryukova told KING 5 that Biryukova left both her children unattended last Thursday when Biryukova attended a lengthy divorce mediation session with Metalwala.

Bellevue police are taking into evidence a small child’s shoe found near where 2-year-old Sky Metalwala’s mother said the boy vanished on Sunday.
 
A girl walking along 112th found the shoe Thursday evening, Bellevue police told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.  It was found in the area where search teams looked for Sky after his mother, Julia Biryukova, reported him missing.

Bellevue police said a passerby found the shoe around 8 p.m. Thursday near Hidden Valley Sports Park, just several blocks from the location where Sky Metalwala was last seen.

But investigators determined the shoe doesn't belong to the boy after police dogs failed to pick up the boy's scent on the shoe.

"'Law and Order' was Julia's favorite show, and the similarities are pretty similar," he said. "And if she got that idea in her head that 'I can make this happen,' she's not going to fear the consequences because she doesn't fear consequences."

On Thursday, rumors of a ransom note that had allegedly been sent to the missing boy's family surfaced on a Facebook page titled "Find Sky Metalwala - Missing From Bellevue, Washington". The page administor posted what was called a "ransom e-mail" that he or she had received earlier in the day. The author said the e-mail, which allegedly demanded $25,000 for the safe return of the missing boy, was forwarded to authorities. However, Bellevue police said they'd not been told of any ransom note, and were not investigating any such e-mail.

When my kids were smaller I always had a stroller in the car, most of the parents I know also have or had one with them. There's so many holes in her story it became one big hole of lies. 'Ransom' email sent to Sky Metalwala's family looks like email sent to missing hiker's family

BELLEVUE — KIRO 7 has uncovered what appears to be a scam email sent to the family of Sky Metalwala claiming that the boy is alive and demanding a ransom.

The note is similar to a ransom note sent last week to the family of missing hiker Patti Krieger, KIRO 7's Deborah Horne reports. The two notes have the same grammatical errors, but demand a different amount of money.

The email says Sky is alive, but suffering from "shock and mentally unstable." The writer then demands $25,000, "if you sure want your child back alive."
 
KIRO 7 was alerted to the email by the creator of a Sky Metalwala Facebook page who wished to remain anonymous.

We showed the email to Alan Patterson, Patti Krieger's son.

"There's a lot of similarities in this email that there were in the ones that were sent to us," he said.

Patterson said he knows the pain a note like that can cause.

"I feel sorry for the parents of that kid," he said.

And he had this to say about whoever sent it: "It's the most cowardly thing I think I've ever seen. Cowardly and disgusting. And preying on a family's misery."

Bellevue police say they are investigating the note.

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- In the early minutes of Friday morning, Bellevue Police detectives set out on a road test of Julia Biryukova's 1998 Acura Integra. The car which Biryukova said had run out of gas made a round trip from Bellevue to her Redmond apartment, KING 5 News followed the squad of investigators as they navigated the side streets and there were no apparent problems with the car.
Earlier, Bellevue police and crime scene investigators had gone back to the area near where 2-year-old Sky Metalwala disappeared.
A shoe of a toddler has been found about a quarter of a mile from where Sky disappeared. A couple who was walking on 112th street found the shoe.
Bellevue police told KING 5 there is no definitive word whether this shoe belongs to Sky. Police say dogs did not pick up on Sky's scent when they compared the shoe to an object of the 2 year old. However, the shoe has not been fully analyzed yet.
"My daughter spotted a shoe by the side of the road and I wondered if it had anything to do. I came up took a look at it, yeah, looks like a two years old better call it in," said Paul Hurd. "This is something it's probably nothing, but who knows something small may be the key to to solving the whole case."
Police say they were told Sky did not have shoes on when he went missing. But at this point they are checking on anything that might be a clue into Sky's disappearance.

The father of a missing 2-year-old whose mother's story has come under scrutiny by police believes his estranged wife may have had something to do with Sky Metalwala's disappearance.

"I do believe that Julia has a, she's responsible …," Solomon Metalwala said Wednesday, speaking of Julia Biryukova, the boy's mother. "It's sad. Because if she can just cooperate, we can find where, where is our son."

He also talked about a strange dream his wife had and which she related to him.

"In this dream she, she was strangling Sky," he said. "And it was very alarming."

Weird and cruel.  I'd like to smack the parents who birthed and raised the individual responsible for this evil fake ransom note.  They dropped the ball somewhere along the way.  WTHeck is wrong with people?

I can imagine the terror of not only being left alone when you are a child under five years old, and for many hours at a time, but being left alone to care for yourself and your toddler brother.   ::MonkeyNoNo::

Now, add to that the fact that mommy is a psycho and any tiny speck of dirt or dust or food sets her off.  So you and toddler brother cannot play, eat, run around, or barely breathe for fear of something being out of place or broken when mommy finally returns.

What a terrifying and largely loveless childhood.  So sad that mom's psychiatrist did not take her symptoms and diagnosis more seriously in terms of the impact on her children.

Mental illness can be worse than drugs or alcohol when it comes to family dysfunction if it is left untreated.

I know what you are saying.....and so many questions come to mind if this mother is seriously mentally disturbed.  Her husband, her family, her friends, her Dr.......have let these children down in so many ways, if they even for a moment thought she was unfit to care for them.   

With that said.....I have a step-sister with Bi-polar/manic depression and when she takes her meds, life is good for her, she is super responsible and such.  When she feels good for some period of time, she then decides she doesn't need her meds, goes off of them, and then all HE77 breaks out.  She just does it without discussing the situation with her Dr., her hubby, or family. Unfortunately, this has happened too many times, dozens of times. She full well knows the meds keep her in line, without them....disaster.   But I guess that is part of the disease.  We may never learn just how ill she is, but we all know it will be her defense. moo

I think that something was wrong with her car and she went to the gas station to call her friend. Some times the media likes to make things bigger and propably Sky left the car and he is lost or somebody took him. I didn't want to believe that his mother could kill him!!!

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- Bellevue Police alluded to activities this coming weekend that will aid in their search for missing toddler, Sky Metalwala, who disappeared last Sunday.

"There are some things in the works," Bellevue Police Maj. Mike Johnson said at Friday's afternoon press briefing, "we'll be out in the communities around this incident this weekend doing some things that will be helpful to the investigation."

Johnson said details of the activities would not be revealed yet.

"There is some activity coming this weekend that you'll know about when its time," he added.

Also Friday, Sky's father, Solomon Metalwala, prepared 1,000 flyers to distribute to the public, showing pictures of his missing son.

Police are searching near a suburban park for a missing Washington state toddler.
Seattle television stations reported Saturday morning that investigators had arrived at Marymoor Park in Redmond, where the mother of 2-year-old Sky Metalwala lives. She reported him missing six days ago, saying he vanished in the nearby city of Bellevue when she left him alone in a car for an hour after it ran out of gas.
Police say there was plenty of gas in the car and it had no other apparent mechanical problems.

Investigators declined to reveal what led them to the park.

Bellevue Police spokeswoman Carla Iafrate (ee'-ah-frah-tay) tells The Associated Press only that "we're still continuing with our searches."

REDMOND, Wash. -- Bellevue Police said Saturday afternoon that they have no significant leads to follow-up on in the search for missing two-year-old Sky Metalwala.

 “We’ve had a couple of ‘almosts’ but neither of those panned out to anything,” Bellevue Police Dept. Maj. Mike Johnson said at a 3:30 p.m. press conference.

When asked if police would charge Birykova with neglect for leaving her son alone in a car, a move that would force Birykova to meet with investigators, Johnson said police appreciate the cooperation they've gotten from Biryukova and her attorney and they don't want to jeopardize that.

“At this point, I am not going to say that we're going to rule out that option of making an arrest for a crime that occurred Sunday morning, but at this point we're not going down that road,” he said.

Johnson said his team is examining the issue of criminal investigation versus missing person investigation and he'll have more answers about that on Monday.

The FBI is assisting with international and national support.

“We've been in touch with some of Julia's family members overseas through the FBI, and they've been a big help to us on that," he said.

At Saturday morning's press briefing, Johnson said:

* 140 personnel are involved in today's search. Agencies involved in the search include Bellevue and Redmond police departments, the FBI, King County Search and Rescue, Ski Patrol and Rescue Team, 4x4 Rescue, Explorer Search and Rescue, Northwest Horse Rescue, King County Search Dogs, Seattle Mountain Rescue and the King County Dive Team.

* Bellevue Police have still not heard from Julia Biryukova regarding their request that she meet in person with investigators. Investigators are confident that she remains in the area and that she has no plans to leave the area

* Police are considering the possibility that a family member or close friend may be caring for Sky in an unknown location.

"It's one of the possibilities we have up on the board in the command post," Johnson said. "If there are those that know that, we don't know that, and if there are family members or friends secreting Sky for some reason that we don't know of, we would just implore them to cooperate with us and let us know that so we can put an end to this."

* Investigators have been able to narrow the time period of interest to them. Sky was last seen by a person other than Biryukova two weeks before he was reported missing. Johnson said police have been able to narrow that two-week window of interest, though he declined to offer more specifics.

"We're working on everything available to us to sort of paint a picture of what happened leading up to ... Nov. 6, when Sky disappeared," Johnson said.

Besides police officers standing by, big placards with Sky Metalwala's picture and description are posted on the road. Some drivers are stopping to talk, but police would not elaborate on what information they are receiving.

While the search continues on a number of fronts, speculation about possible charges against the mother grows. Bellevue Police Major Mike Johnson saying "on Monday we will be talking to prosecutors and will determine then if anything will happen, but that won't happen until Monday."

On the page, which was created July 25, a person identifying herself as "JB" says she is "looking for financial stability and assistance. I am looking for a successful mentor. I am looking for a REAL man. YOU tell me YOUR 'ideal' arrangement!"  The profile says "JB" expects "US$3,001 - $5,000 monthly."

SEATTLE — The father of missing boy Sky Metalwala made a plea to his estranged wife while at the KIRO 7 Eyewitness News studios.
 
 
Solomon Metawala was live in the studio during KIRO 7’s hour-long special on the search for his son Wednesday night.
 
When KIRO 7 reporter Alison Grande asked Metalwala about his estranged wife, Julia Biryukova, he turned to the camera and pleaded with her.
 
 “This is your son who’s missing.  It’s our son who is not there.  If you know anything, please let the authorities know so they can go and get him,” said Metalwala.

Biryukova has been conspicuously absent in the search for her son and has only been in contact with police through her attorney.
 
When Grande showed Metalwala a brief interview KIRO 7 did with Biryukova’s brother, Stan Biryukov, he had a hard time finding the right words.
 
KIRO 7's David Quinlan approached Biryukov outside his Belltown apartment Wednesday afternoon.

Quinlan: "Everyone is worried about Sky.”
 
 
Biryukov: "Yeah of course, but I don't have anything to say.   I don't know what I can do to help. I feel like everything is out there already."
 
 
Quinlan: "How's your sister doing?"
 
 
Stan: "She's upset with the whole situation, but we are just hoping for the best."
 
 
When it was over, Metalwala sat in stunned silence.
 
 
“I don’t even have a response.  That’s not the guy I know,” he said.
 
 
Metalwala said he's known Biryukov since he was 5 years old.
 
 
“He’s very innocent, he’s very lovable,” said Metalwala.
 
 
But in the interview, Metalwala said Biryukov seemed different.
 
 
“He looks very cold in this,” he said.  “Stan is the one who picked Sky’s name.  I would hope if Stan knows anything, he would think about his nephew.”
 
 
Before Metalwala came to KIRO 7, he had been at a long meeting with Bellevue police, who have him advice as to how to move forward, he said.

I can't help but notice that of the few pictures of Sky that JB has posted on her FB and other online albums, the pictures are all of what looks to be group settings:  with family, on a vacation, or in a hotel, etc.  The pictures of her daughter, however, are just of her without brother or any other people.  I don't think JB took pictures of Sky unless there was an audience to view her or perhaps the pictures of Sky were taken by someone else.

I don't know if this says anything about her as a mother, but to me it adds to her being disattached to Sky especially in comparison to her daughter.

And I still want to know if there was a stroller in her car.  I don't go anywhere without one for my granddaughter.  I hardly ever use it, but it has been there since she was born.   ::CowboySmiley::

Could it be that Julia Biryukova met Solomon Metawala through an international dating site?  Could it be that Solomon was Julia's ticket to America?

Hi Monkeys.  Unfortunately this one is right in my backyard.  Actually, yesterday I went to market at Costco (Issaquah) and SM was there with a group putting together fliers and he conducted a news interview.  It was heartbreaking...He just looked like a totally broken man.  Also, given their financial situation, I'm surprised JB can afford to live in her apartment complex-very nice and prime location. Makes me wonder if she has had some success with her website endeavors...

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- More photos of a missing 2-year-old Bellevue boy and his mother were released by authorities and appeared online Friday.
Bellevue Police compiled about a dozen recent photos of Sky Metalwala and Julia Biryukova from the days leading up to Sky's disappearance.

Investigators said they hope the new pictures will help people who may have seen the family remember more specific details.

Images of Sky show him with a more recent hairstyle. Biryukova is shown in surveillance photos from an unknown store.

The images of Biryukova show her with darker hair, as well as a gray sweatsuit that detectives believe she may have been wearing on Sunday, November 6, when Sky was last seen.

"This is the woman that was out there Sunday morning with her child," said Major Mike Johnson with the Bellevue Police Department, gesturing toward a storyboard of photos. "She does look considerably different [than on social media sites]."

Johnson said Biryukova has still not been interviewed by police since Sky was first reported missing.

"We have continued to reach out and ask for information from Sky's mother, as recently as today and through her attorney," said Johnson. "But unfortunately we have yet to get any information."

When asked whether detectives continue to pursue the option of arresting Biryukova, Johnson said the primary concern remains finding Sky but that, "[his] statement stands about her story falling apart."

Additionally, 35 photos of Sky and his sister were added to  Biryukova's Flickr account. The photos appear to have been taken earlier this year.

we really don't know the last time that Sky was seen by another person do we? he could have been 'missing' longer than the mother is saying. The father saw the little daughter at the foster home that she is staying in the other day and he said that she wanted to go home with him but was happy where she was at..bless her heart..at least she can play and eat a snack in peace without being yelled at by her clean freak mother!

Crime scene investigators uncovered several items that are being sent in for analysis but warn there are still no signs of missing 2-year-old Sky Metalwala, whose mother claims he disappeared while she walked to get gas for her car.

The items of interest were found Saturday during a search of Watershed Park in Kirkland - and one discovery was important enough to call in a forensics team.

"They found something of interest," said Carla Iafrate of the Bellevue Police Department. "We called out our CSI investigators, they showed up and looked at the items."

The search teams used rakes and shovels - a potentially grim indicator of what crews were doing in their search for Sky.

"I think that's just standard equipment for any search and rescue," said Iafrate. "There's a lot of leaves, it's pretty wet and damp. There's a lot of rabbit burrows, so the land is soft back there."

Teams closed the park to the public and worked through the day and into the night - then called in crime scene specialists when they stumbled upon possible evidence in the case.

Correspondent Neal Karlinsky says he's exchanged several emails with Julia Biryukova this weekend through an email address that Biryukova's family says belongs to her.

The first e-mail was in response to Sky's father, Solomon Metalwala, and his allegations that Biryukova is responsible for Sky's disappearance.

"My former husband is a sadistic Muslim Pakistani," Biryukova wrote to Karlinksky. "No one has any idea. This is all too difficult."

Solomon Metalwala is Pakistani, but not Muslim. He and Biryukova have been involved in a bitter divorce and custody fight.

When Karlinksy asked for more details about Sky's disappearance, she replied: "My attorney has forbid me from speaking about the ongoing investigation. My former husband's allegations are without merit. Solomon is deceptive."

Karlinksy then asked, "Julia, please, do you know where Sky is?"
She replied, "No."

Karlinsky's next e-mail asked her if she thought her husband had anything to do with Sky's disappearance, and she replied "yes."

When Karlinksy steered the conversation back to what might bring Sky home, she replied "Prayers. Faith. I'm praying to Jesus on my knees night and day for my Sky," she wrote, signing it, "Kindly, Julia."

Karlinksy tried one more time to ask Biryukova what really happened the day Sky went missing, since police have discounted her original story, but he never received a reply.

If his allegations are true, then she is definitely a risk to her children.  But her fears about hm taking the children out of the country could be compelling IF the children had passports which I don't think they did.  If parents are divorced, it is not easy to get a passport for a child without both parent's consent.      ::dogwag::

Mom is a threat to these children..did she dress the daughter in Sky's clothing since his disappearance?  Daughter is in foster care...she looks to be around 2 or 3 when that pic was taken...am I confused about something?

While living in their Kirkland home, located in the South Rose Hill neighborhood, neighbors said the couple was very friendly.

“Solomon is a very kind man,” former neighbor Nicolas Collins told the Reporter. “Very soft spoken, what you see on TV is how he is.”

He said he would mostly speak with Solomon, who was often outside doing yard work. He also saw Biryukova on occasion taking her daughter for a walk.

“They had a new baby and it was summer so she was not very comfortable,” Collins recalled. “It was a stressful time but you deal with things. They had their moments when they were vocal but I haven’t had neighbors that haven’t had those times.”

But according to Biryukova, the couple’s marriage began to breakdown in 2009 when she learned of their financial issues.

“I learned about the extent of our debt from my husband when we were six months behind on paying our two mortgages, utilities, credit cards and all other bills,” she said in court documents. “This is the time when my husband’s anger and his true character began to show.”

Their Kirkland home was foreclosed in the fall of 2009 and they moved out. They then were forced to move back into the smaller Bellevue condo.

Solomon claimed in court documents that Biryukova had psychological issues, which led to the breakdown of their relationship.

In court records, Solomon said because Biryukova had Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and bi-polar in 2009, “living with her was difficult before our separation.”

He described some “unusual things” he did to comply with the demands of her disease, including eating meals with his children outside his home to keep the apartment clean and sleeping on the living room carpet or in his car.

“I am not exaggerating when I state under oath that Julia cared more about cleaning a countertop than she did about feeding our daughter,” said Solomon. “The child was ignored, and it became a matter of great concern.”

After the foreclosure, the couple and their two children moved back to the condo in Bellevue where neighbors complained about issues related to Biryukova’s condition.

The general manager of the Astoria at Meydenbauer Bay Condominium Association, issued the couple a notice on June 29, 2009 stating they were in violation of noise regulations.

The notice stated that other residents were disturbed by vacuuming noise inside the couple’s unit between 11-11:20 p.m. on June 27, 2009. This was their third citation, adding up to $300.

Those around the couple had conflicting views of Biryukova’s condition, including her own psychiatrists.

Her first psychiatrist put Biryukova on anti-depressants during her pregnancy with Sky, despite her objections.

In court documents, Biryukova argued that her psychiatrist had a “history of prescribing powerful psychiatric medications to people who do not require them.”

Biryukova was also committed three times, twice involuntarily, for her mental-health issues.

Solomon stated that: “By March 2010, Julia would not leave the house on time to go anywhere. She was like a prisoner who locked herself into a cell block. She began to have dreams about killing our children, even telling me of her dreams about strangling our youngest child. This became very scary and I knew it was time I had to do something.”

Julia’s own mother, Nadia Biryukova, at one point believed that her daughter had serious issues: “Neither your husband nor I would like for you to live with us at your current conditions … All of us (your children including) are suffering from your abuse," the documents continue.

But her mother would later state that Solomon “little by little, he convinced me that my daughter was sick.”

Other doctors would later disagree with the severity of her psychiatric issues.

Dr. Stephen a. Sholl, a clinical psychologist in Seattle, said in a July 2, 2010 statement: “Although Ms. Biryukova is dealing with a severe form of OCD, I do not believe that this interferes with her ability to be a compassionate, effective parent to her children.”

In court records filed on Sept. 23, 2010, Julia declares: “I do not suffer from severe OCD and I never have.”

A report provided to the court by a separate psychologist with 38 years experience found that Biryukova is “an intense young woman whose only interest is to provide a good life for her two children.”

The issues with Biryukova’s mental state came to a head on March 10, 2010 when the couple officially separated, thanks to an incident involving police.

According to a Bellevue police report, Biryukova made suicidal threats via text message to Solomon. He called police because she was home alone with 6-month-old Sky.

Biryukova wrote: “Please, please I’m begging with my whole heart help me find a peaceful way to die. I cannot live ANOTHER day and cause you, Maile and Sky anymore suffering. I’m dead inside anyway and have been dead for a long time. You will not miss me at all and Maile and Sky have the best daddy in the world so I know they will be okay …”

She admitted to police that she was suicidal, the report continued.

Biryukova later stated at a psychiatric facility that she threatened suicide to get her husband’s attention, the documents state. She was then involuntarily committed at Overlake Hospital and then Navos in West Seattle.

When she was admitted to Navos, she was found to have a Global Assesment of Functioning (GAF) score of 15. When she was released, she had a GAF score of 40.

GAF is a numerical scale from 1-100 used to assess psychological functioning of adults. A 15 meant that she was in danger of hurting herself or others; a 40 meant she has some impairment for daily activities.

Upon her discharge from Navos, her husband and his brother took her to the University of Washington Medical Center, where she was voluntarily admitted.

Solomon filed for divorce in June 2010.

During her stay at the UW, their Bellevue condo foreclosed and Solomon moved into his mother’s Kirkland home with the children.

Nadia, the boy's grandmother, has requested privacy since the search for Sky began on Sunday, Nov. 6. But on Tuesday, she broke her silence in an email to KING 5 reporter Chris Daniels.

“Sky reminds me my own son, who’s always content and happy with everything he has, even if it isn’t much. As long as he isn’t hungry, he’s easygoing, relaxed and laid back boy. Sky has very adaptable and not easy to upset temperament,” she wrote to Daniels, responding to his request for an interview.

Forgive me as I do not know how a grand jury works. With that said, can a grand jury make the mother talk or take a poly? What do y'all think is the hold up in this case? Why are they treating the mother with kid gloves? Do y'all think LE is tiptoeing around her because they think she is mentally ill? So frustrating that there has been nothing in this case at least publicly.

A grand jury can issue a subpoena for you to testify.  If you don't appear, you are in contempt of court and can be jailed for that.  If you appear, you can not be forced to testify, that is your Fifth Amendment protection, and you can't be made to take a poly against your will. 

They are treating her this way because of the presumption of innocence.  If they thought it would do any good, the police would be pressuring her hard to take advantage of her mental state. 

Personally, I would have water boarded her on day one because her story was so asinine from the beginning.  But that's just me being tired of kids going missing and parents clamming up because they have that right.  The longer a child goes missing, the less chance there is that he/she will ever be found or if the body is found, the less forensic evidence that can be recovered.

Solomon Metalwala was reunited Friday with his four-year-old daughter, Metalwala's attorney confirmed to KING 5.

Maile Metalwala was placed in foster care early last month after her two-year-old brother, Sky Metalwala, was reported missing by their mother, Julia Biryukova.

A court ruled on December 5 that Solomon should have custody of Maile. He had been separated from her for nearly a year as a result of a bitter custody dispute with Biryukova.

SEATTLE- The father of missing Bellevue boy Sky Metalwala is expanding the search for his 2-year-old son up and down the state of Washington.

Groups of volunteers will begin driving in all directions across Washington Wednesday making repeated stops to hand out flyers along the way.

Sky's father Solomon Metalwala will join a group in Lacey about 10 a.m. and begin heading to Seattle. Other groups will go from Lacey to Vader, Woodland to Gresham, Oregon and from Seattle to the Canadian border.

The investigation into Sky's disappearance has yielded few leads but Metalwala believes one piece of information could bring his son home.

"We may find one person, just one, who knows something, so we are going out as far as our resources will allow us," Metalwala's lawyer Clay Terry said.

SEATTLE -- Tuesday marks 100 days since 2-year-old Sky Metalwala disappeared in Bellevue.

Police now refuse to comment on the case, a drastic difference to the daily press conferences that happened during the first week Sky was gone.

However, attorneys for Sky's father, Solomon Metalwala, said they receive an update from Bellevue Police every two weeks.

Sky was last seen Sunday, November 6 by his mother, Julia Biryukova, who said her car ran out of gas on the 2400 block of 112th Avenue Northeast in the early morning hours.

Biryukova has not been named a suspect, and has refused to be interviewed by police or take a polygraph test. An apparent posting by Biryukova recently appeared on a dating website, ChristianMingles.com.

A vigil for the toddler is planned on Saturday, February 18 at 5:30 p.m. at Bellevue Park.

It doesn't sound like Julia is interested in being much of a parent if she can't show up for a custody hearing.  Why would Julia need to submit a parenting plan?  Would it need to contain things like not lying to LE, not allegedly leaving Sky alone and seat belted in a car at the side of the road and etc.?  How can the court even consider Julia having custody of either of the two children, when one is missing because she claims he was abducted after she abandoned him with  her alleged broken down car along the road and the police could't find anything wrong with the car, that it worked and had enough gas?  Where are the laws to protect children.  What a farce!!

Solomon Metalwala granted full custody of kids

Two-year-old Sky Metalwala has been missing for 134 days now, and even though there are no leads in his disappearance, a judge has decided to give full custody of the boy and his 5-year-old sister to the children’s father, Solomon Metalwala.

Solomon’s attorney, Clay Terry, said the judge in the case has good reason to keep Biryukova away from her daughter.
 
“There’s only two witnesses: The 5-year-old daughter and the mother. They’re the only two witnesses in this case to what may have happened to Sky,” Terry said. “There will be no visitation with the 5-year-old daughter by the mother until the daughter is cleared by police as no longer being a witness in this case.”
 
Terry also said that on the day Biryukova reported Sky missing, she gave up looking and fighting for custody in her divorce with Solomon.

Divorced finalized for parents of missing boy, Sky Metalwala

Solomon Metalwala and Julia Biryukova, the parents of missing 2-year-old Sky signed a divorce agreement on Monday.

Metawala was given custody of the boy’s 5-year-old sister, and Biryukova was allowed no visitation rights.

The agreement stipulates that Metawala will pay the couple’s credit card debt of $47,000, but there will be no child support payments from either side.

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- The father of missing boy Sky Metalwala asked investigators to release additional information in the case on Wednesday, but detectives refused, saying doing so could jeopardize the case.

The request was the latest move in Solomon Metalwala's desperate search for his 2-year-old son, who vanished last November.

"It's sad for us that we can't release (any more information) but good for us to know the investigation is still going forward," said Clay Terry, Solomon Metalwala's attorney.

Lawyer for Sky Metalwala’s father says it’s time mother’s family came forward

BELLEVUE, Wash. —
An attorney representing the father of missing toddler Sky Metalwala said at a news conference Wednesday that it was time that the family of the boy’s mother came forward.

Clay Terry, the lawyer for Sky’s father, Solomon Metalwala, said he wanted to release what he called “interesting information” but because the investigation was ongoing, police preferred he not release any sensitive details.

Terry said that the mother, brother and two close friends of the boy’s mother, Julia Biryukova, seem to be protecting Biryukova, and while those people have been interviewed by the police, they haven’t spoken to publicly or been as forthcoming as the boy’s father has.

The father of missing 2-year-old Sky Metalwala, along with his attorney, on Wednesday called for Sky's mother, her friends and family to share information about the case.
 
An attorney for Sky's father, Solomon Metalwala, was expected to reveal new information about the case, but police advised against it because of the ongoing investigation.
 
Attorney Clay Terry said police in Bellevue, Kirkland and Redmond continue to investigate the case.
 
Terry said Sky's mother Julia Biryukova, her brother and two of her friends have not helped in the search for Sky.

REDMOND – Solomon Metalwala sits at a corner table of a Redmond restaurant, his soft voice wavering, “Sky, wherever he is, he’s not home…”

It has been nearly one year since police declared his 2-year-old son, Sky Metalwala, missing.  The boy’s mother, Julia Biryukova, told police her car ran out of gas and she left Sky in the car while she, and Sky’s sister, went to get help.  She told police when she returned, Sky was gone.

“I think her story is a bunch of crap,” says Solomon. “I think the whole story about her running out of gas is a bunch of baloney

Search for Sky continues: Toddler's father has faith that 'we will find him'

People sang and prayed, hugged each other and cried and released 369 blue balloons to mark the amount of days Sky Metalwala had been missing as of last Saturday during a gathering at Downtown Park in Redmond.

Hope was in the air among the 65 attendees who joined Sky’s father, Solomon Metalwala, at the event.

“They came by to receive some strength that he is out there — and we will find him,” Solomon told the Reporter on Thursday morning. “It’s my job as a father to make sure that people hear about Sky day and night. I talk to people every day about Sky. I cry with people I meet at least once a week.”

The Bellevue Police Department (BPD) investigation is still open and active and the effort on this case has never stopped.

A BPD press release stated that while it has been hard for family members to cope with the disappearance, it is not uncommon for new information to come to light even after a year or more.

Solomon noted that he commends the police for doing all they can to find Sky and keep the case in the public eye.

“It’s a very hard case. There’s not too much evidence to find Sky,” said Solomon, a Kirkland resident.

Next week, Solomon will be among a group of people visiting the capitol building in Olympia to meet with legislators and discuss whether police officers everywhere should receive extensive training to help find missing children.

In the majority of solved child-abduction cases, children are abducted by a parent, according to the FBI. While Sky Metalwala's case is still unsolved, his father and his father's attorney, Leslie Clay Terry, have been very vocal about their opinion of Sky's mother's alleged involvement in his disappearance. His mother denies involvement but has not been cooperative with police.

Monday marks six years since the disappearance of 2-year-old Sky Metalwala and Bellevue police are still looking for tips to help find him.

Sky was reported missing by his mother, Julia Biryukova, on Nov. 6, 2011. Bellevue police say Biryukova reported she left Sky in her car after it ran out of gas and that he was gone she returned.

Police say their investigation found the car had gas and there were no mechanical issues. They also say Biryukova has refused to talk to investigators for the last six years.

Sky's father, Solomon Metalwala, has been actively looking for his son since his disappearance, police say.

Bellevue police say the search has cost over $2 million and has garnered more than 2,500 tips.
