Police Seek Missing Oceanside Woman

Karen Day, 38, was reported missing Thursday.

    1:36 pm

Police are asking the public for help in finding a 38-year-old woman.

Karen Day was reported missing Thursday by a sister when she missed a family gathering in Northern California, according to Oceanside police Lt. Leonard Mata.

Day's landlord saw her about 5 p.m. Dec. 18 at her home in the 1700 block of Downs Street in Oceanside, Mata said. Day's purse, wallet and mobile phone were left behind, he said.

Day's car was left at Bill's Complete Auto Repair Service at 1707 South Coast Highway for repairs the same day and has not been picked up, Mata said.

It was unclear what Day might have done, but Mata said her actions were out of character, and her family was worried. She is not expected at work until next week, he said.

Police asked anyone with more information as to Day's whereabouts to call police at (760) 435-4911.

Kind of peculiar that her purse, cell phone and wallet was left behind in home.

So was the vehicle left at the auto shop on the 18th before or after the landlord reported say her at 5 pm? Who was the last to see her, those at the shop or the landlord? How did Karen Day get home from the shop if she left her car there?

Although not directly related to the case, this was something that was posted to the front page as a crime that was committed at an auto repair shop in the same city. Seeing that she missing woman had left her car off at a car shop. Just rather peculiar.

The sister of an Oceanside woman missing since Dec. 18 said the family still has no clues as to what happened to her.

Jeanie Day of Manteca said Tuesday that the last time she heard from her sister, Karen Day, was when she received a text Dec. 17 telling her how much Karen was looking forward to seeing the family for Christmas.

Day said her sister would not have skipped the holiday gathering in Manteca without telling her about it.

"This is totally unlike her," Day said.

According to police, Karen Day was last seen by her landlord about 5 p.m. Dec. 18. The family reported her missing the following day when she failed to show up at the gathering, said Oceanside police Lt. Leonard Mata.

Mata said Tuesday that there were no suspects and no new leads in the investigation.

Police said last week that Day left her purse, cellphone and wallet behind. Her car was left at a shop for repairs on Dec. 18, Mata said.

I'm glad Karen's sister started the facebook page.  I've updated the SM front page post with the facebook link and bumped up the post to the front page again.  I just don't understand why there hasn't been more interest in this case.  I guess because she's an adult.

So what happened to Karen Day? It's always hard when a case like this comes up because there is so little information to lead to speculation. There are no readily findable details about this woman's personal life. Did she have a husband? A boyfriend? Separated from a man maybe? Was she involved in any criminal activities? The list of questions could go on and on until more details are released.
