Woke up at 3 am this morning, Patton started coughing, all I could think of is that a heart worm had moved to his lungs. I stayed awake monitoring him to see if it would get better. At 6:30 I called and asked if his vet was in, he had surgery but an appointment at 7:20. Got up, fed him, gave him his meds, hurried to the vet in my jammie pants.  ::MonkeyNoNo:: He coughed for the girls up front, constantly coughed in front of the vet tech, never once coughed for the vet. I even made the comment he wouldn't cough in front of him.

Long story short, I am doing everything right, he can walk up the stairs, walk just not get too fast and he is back on antibiotics (just finished them this morning) and back on steroids and robutussin. Vet thinks it is kennel cough, not heart worms, but the drugs help with both. His lungs and heart sound good so he doubts it is the heart worms.  ::dogwag::

We came back home, I ate and slept until 12:30 got up to take him outside and just stayed in bed I was so whooped. So that was my day, hoping all you monkeys had a great January 1st.  ::MonkeyAngel::

JSM, sorry Patton still has the cough and how much it scares you (it would scare me too).  Hope he gets much better soon so you both can get some good rest.

Now Patton is rolling on the floor acting normal. I still sleep with one eye opened until the treatments are finished. Can't be too careful.

Sister, I don't play the lottery and only bet only in a casino which is very very rare or bingo at Church (1/2 goes to the school). I think praying to win, is about the same thing as betting.  ::MonkeyNoNo::

This is really cute, amazing how she stayed up on her hind legs so long!

Prayers for all monkeys in need. Hope all had a great holiday season with family and friends. 16 more days and I'll be moving to Texas. In time I'll tell y'all (see I'm learning to speak Texan) about what happened with the Cook County BS fiasco. Baby boy Patton is learning a bunch of stuff at school- sit, shake, etc. JSM has promised me by the time I get there that he'll be able to fetch me a beer.

Yeah 16 more days and you will be here in Texas.   ::MonkeySlide::  You will be all set with Patton fetching your beer and Ruby fetching your slippers.  ::MonkeyHaHa::

Well 17 days to be exact, hopefully. Intend to leave about 10:00 a.m. from Chicago if the movers arrive on schedule. Hope to drive to Memphis on the 19th and learn some line dancing by JSM. Then drive the following day, Friday, into Irving. Movers are suppose to show up on Sunday morning. Care to help me unpack?

Hope you monkeys are warm and snuggy. It was cold last night so Patton and I got in the bed and watched some tv and talked to CC.

Had another run in with the vet tech that was rude to me the other day. She was rude in front of the front desk worker. If she hadn't taken Patton in the back so quickly I would have used the "MADAM" words with her. I did say to the girl at the front desk that that woman hates me, the girl said she just acts weird, I said this isn't the first time, front desk girl said it will be taken care of. We will see.

Yes, I do hate confrontation, and the girl at the front desk knows, I told the head of the Pet Lodge as well a few weeks ago, but I didn't want to rattle any cages so to speak in case she treated Patton badly. If I see the head of Pet Lodge I may tell her again. Hate it that she is rude because all the others are so good and kind with Patton, one was leaving to go home this morning and just petted him and said he was so sweet, she couldn't believe he was a shelter dog, then I had to deal with Alice the Goon.  ::MonkeyNoNo::

I know you aren't comfortable confronting people and I understand that. At the vet practice where I go there is a vet (part owner) who is forbidden from touching any of my animals because I don't like his attitude with my rescues. Jason (the vet I use) also a part owner knows that I will pull all 10 dogs, 2 goats and 4 donks from their practice if he comes within feet of them. Normal vet care not counting emergencies run around $ 6000.00 a year and there are always emergencies. I always pay at the time of service and if I leave in this economy it will hurt them. All I ask is that my animals are treated professionally with respect and kindness...not excessive demands. If this lady treats owners badly than I would be afraid she is doing the same thing to my animals and no way would I feel badly at least having her removed from the care of my guys.

Sorry 4 Donks that you have a problem with the other vet. I like you are not demanding, don't expect special treatment (even though I do get it as I have been going to them 5 to 6 days a week for almost 9 years), I just don't like the way she talks to me. You are right, if she is ugly to the owners, then how does she treat the animals. That is why I have kept my yap shut because I don't want her taking it out on Patton. I will see what happens when I pick him up today, hopefully there will be someone there to talk to about it. Thanks 4 Donks for your input.  ::MonkeyKiss::

I have heard it takes 9 days to catch a cold, (I caught mine 9 days after hubby got his) and 9 days to have it, then 9 days to get rid of it!

This is my 7th day of having it.

Yes, I could go, but I'd have to pay for it. ALL of it.

Would be cheaper to pay for a doctor's visit.

But I won't go unless i am at death's door, since I'd have to pay for all of it.

Last I looked, doctor visits were not cheap.

I am okay, just have to wait for this cold to run its course.

But you are right, cookie ... most people on state and federal programs would have some kind of "benefit" for medical treatment, I suppose.

We don't qualify for those. We just have no health insurance anymore from hubby's job. And cannot afford to get it on our own.

Brandi, if you get worse check and see if there is some kind of clinic that doesn't charge but what you can afford. We have one here called the Interfaith Clinic. Different doctors give up their days off to work at this clinic, it doesn't get goverment funds, only monetary donations and donated time. Just a thought if you feel you are getting worse. I sure hope you get well.

Brandi, I am praying for you that this remains just an aggravating cold.  I know what it's like to have no insurance.  My sister Connie has no insurance and it has been eye-opening.  Because of her disability, she will be eligible (after 18 months) for Medicare this month.  Was determined not to eligible for any state or government programs.  I don't even want to go there.  Simply put, if you're not willing to lie, many folks never get assistance, although I am not saying all people lie.

can, I understand about your Mom.  We get it in our heads the best way to handle things and though so stressful, we just can't see other ways, even when it is pointed out.  I think the deciding factor for me was realizing I was "killing" myself in order to help, then where would the loved one be -- cause no one else was going to do what I had been doing.  Letting go of "our" way is not easy, but I have noticed a change in my own life and though still stressful, not at the level it once was.  If you must (and you will), lead her to the water over and over again.  Eventually she will get at least a little thirsty.

Unfortunately my Mother is dying of thirst.  My daughter has been nagging her and insisting she take measures to relieve some of her stress/burden.  They are very close and I hoped she would take my daughters words of concern to heart.  Daughter has become very frustrated, lives far away, has a demanding career and two little ones. She was shocked when she saw her Granny at Christmas.  There is only so much one can do. 
My Mom has been passive all her life.  It is her way.
Her doctor suggested over two years ago that she put her husband in a day program a couple of days a week and ask his daughter if she could take him on weekends.  Nada.

I don't my Mom to feel I am pushing her and want her to enjoy the times we are together.

yes! it is great weather here! high 40's today and tomorrow is expected to be warmer! I could handle winters like this every year!

As Popeye says, "I yam what I yam."  We have a lot in common, Sister.  I like a person who is not afraid to admit his/her faults.  God made me human and is very aware of that and knows where all the weak spots are.  There is no fooling God, who else would I need or even want to impress?  If I am good enough for God, I am good enough... You don't even need to spin me around and I am lost.  I always manage to get there and I am not intimidated by the scenic route.  God is my co-pilot, and that is a belief, not just a saying.  About herself, my Grandmother always said, "As long as I have a tank of gas, I'm good."  We used to call her Wrong-way Nanny. 

She loved those nicknames we gave her.  She was so proud of being so close (not in proximity she was a half hour ride and she made it often, but close in heart) to us.  When she would come over we would say, "Hey Nan, where did you park your broom?"  She always told these things at her Senior Citizen meetings (her old ladies she would call them).  She was their age, too, but she was the driver.  She was way ahead of her time, and young at heart until the end, but was never disrespectful or anything but a woman.  We were never disrespectful either, but she loved those nicknames and we loved her.  When her car pulled up, we would slide down the steps or the banister, run up the basement stairs, run in from outside or run in from the kitchen.  We loved that woman and she felt it.  She said she was going to die with her boots on and she did.

Good morning,
Headed out early to take Connie to the state Department of Rehabilitation Services (DORS)this morning.  She was qualified in November to get help for different programs.  After she was found qualified, we heard nothing.  So after the first of the year I called using my best "Madam" voice and so we have an appointment this morning.  Connie is excited -- she wants, among other things, to drive again.  Don't know how that will go, don't know how any of it will go.  They constantly say they have no money for programs, but someone must be enrolled, otherwise they would shut the office down or so I mentioned.  Anyway, say a few prayers for us this morning, probably me the most.  I hate it when people raise her hopes and then do nothing.  What was the purpose?  To use her as a statistic?  In any rate, may I have the calm to motivate them to help her.

What beautiful memories Bearly. I had to laugh about the "old ladies" comment. My grandmother would call the ladies in her Sunday school class "old", but she was older than all of them. She sounds a lot like my Moo.  ::MonkeyAngel::

Unfortunately Madamzilla has been the one to take him back yesterday and this morning. She is so cold, but seemed to be nicer than previously. I hope beyond all hope that his vet will be doing it or they other one that usually takes care of him.
