Trayvon Martin Case: Timeline of Events

The slaying of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, a Florida high school student who was shot and killed by George Zimmerman, a self-appointed neighborhood watch captain, has captured national attention.

Petitions calling for justice for Martin have exploded, amid allegations of racism and calls for more scrutiny into how local police  handled the investigation. George Zimmerman has yet to be charged in the case.

Below is a timeline of events:

 ARLINGTON  — Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Friday that the “stand your ground” self-defense law he signed while in office should not apply to the case of a teenager who was killed by a neighborhood watch volunteer in his home state.

 “This law does not apply to this particular circumstance,” Bush said after an education panel discussion at the University of Texas at Arlington. “Stand your ground means stand your ground. It doesn’t mean chase after somebody who’s turned their back.”

Another contradiction is his name, which would suggest that you have some link with the Jewish religion, but who lived around the Zimmerman remember them as "very Catholic."

"The media presentation about George as a racist can not be further from the truth," he wrote in a letter to the "Orlando Sentinel" his father without revealing the whereabouts of the defendant.

HISTORY OF VIOLENCE
This is a subject with a history of violence. He has received numerous complaints of domestic abuse between 2002 and 2006, and in all cases are defended by asserting that he had been attacked by their girlfriends.

At the moment, following a dialogue 911 in which a man from Peru called 'rogue' to Martin, the deceased's family and the entire American society want to see behind bars.

(CBS News) A friend of George Zimmerman, the Sanford, Fla., neighborhood watch volunteer who fatally shot Trayvon Martin last month, said that the incident was not racially motivated, although he said the shooting has inspired a needed conversation about race relations in this country.

Appearing on "CBS This Morning," Joe Oliver said, "This incident on its own is not a racial incident; this story is a racial story ... It has sparked a dialogue that needs to be made, because I live with what they're talking about every day. But in this particular instance when it involves this happening, it was not racially motivated."

Oliver also told Erica Hill that Zimmerman, who he spoke to over the weekend, is frustrated that he cannot tell his story because of impending grand jury proceedings. He said that understanding exactly what happened between the time Zimmerman got out of his vehicle and the time the gun went off cannot be known until all the evidence is presented to the grand jury.

"The hard part about this," Oliver said, is that Zimmerman "wants to tell what happened but he's been instructed not to.

The latest report of the altercation between the Miami high school student and the 28-year-old man at a Sanford gated community on Feb. 26 has been corroborated by witnesses, authorities told the Orlando Sentinel.

Calls to the FBI, U.S. Justice Department and Sanford Police weren't immediately returned Monday.

Zimmerman told police he had turned around and was walking back to his SUV when Martin approached him from behind and the two got into a verbal altercation, the report said.

Martin punched Zimmerman in the nose and began beating him on the ground, leaving him bloodied and battered, authorities said, according to the report. Zimmerman told police he shot the unarmed Martin in self-defense.

SANFORD, Fla. –  Trayvon Martin had been suspended from school for marijuana when the unarmed teenager was shot to death by a neighborhood watch volunteer, a family spokesman said Monday.

Martin, 17, was suspended by Miami-Dade County schools because traces of marijuana were found in a plastic baggie in his book bag, family spokesman Ryan Julison said. Martin was shot Feb. 26 by George Zimmerman while he was visiting Sanford with his father.

"We maintain that regardless of the specific reason for the suspension, it's got nothing to do with the events that unfolded on Feb. 26," Julison said.

Trayvon Martin Shooter Told Cops Teenager Went For His Gun

George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch crime captain who shot dead 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, originally told police in a written statement that Martin knocked him down with a punch to the nose, repeatedly slammed his head on the ground and tried to take his gun, a police source told ABC News.
Zimmerman had claimed he had called police about Martin, whom he found suspicious, then went back to his car when Martin attacked him, punching him.

The new information is the most complete version yet of what Zimmerman claims happened on the night of Feb. 26 when he shot and killed the teenager.

In addition, an eyewitness, 13-year-old Austin Brown, told police he saw a man fitting Zimmerman's description lying on the grass moaning and crying for help just seconds before he heard the gunshot that killed Martin.

The initial police report noted that Zimmerman was bleeding from the back of the head and nose, and after medical attention it was decided that he was in good enough condition to travel in a police cruiser to the Sanford, Fla., police station for questioning. He was not arrested

President Obama's press conference regarding this tragic event that resulted in the death of teenager can only be considered interference in an ongoing investigation.

There are two sets of parents who have been affected ... one son is dead ... the other son is demonized without a conviction of guilt.  However ... Obama appears to be  aligning himself with only one set of parents.  Something is not right.

I was in the green room on the 12th floor of Fox News building in New York on Friday when I heard the soundbite the first time, "If I had a son he'd look like Trayvon..."

That simple statement had been preceded by nearly two minutes of stating deep and profound "outrage" and "seriousness" in the need to "insure" that "this matter would be investigated to the fullest."

I asked commentator Cal Thomas who was sitting on one of the sofas in the room, "How many child murders have taken place since he took office?"

Cal shrugged his shoulders as if to say, "I have no idea."

"And how many press ops did the president use to comment on a single one of them before now?" I continued.

"Ah yes, but it is an election year," replied Thomas.

MIAMI (Reuters) - The mother of the Florida teenager shot and killed by a neighborhood watch volunteer, in a case with racial overtones that has resonated across the United States, is seeking trademark rights to slogans based on his name.

Sybrina Fulton, the mother of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, filed the trademark requests on March 21, according to the online database of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

In the filings, which were confirmed by Fulton's attorney Kimra Major-Morris, she seeks legal rights to the slogans "Justice for Trayvon" and "I Am Trayvon."

The request to the Patent and Trademark Office said the slogans, and the corresponding trademarks, could be used in matters involving such things as DVDs and CDs "featuring and promoting Trayvon Martin."

On Feb. 26, when Zimmerman first spotted Trayvon, he called police and reported a suspicious person, describing Trayvon as black, acting strangely and perhaps on drugs.

Zimmerman got out of his SUV to follow Trayvon on foot. When a dispatch employee asked Zimmerman if he was following the 17-year-old, Zimmerman said yes. The dispatcher told Zimmerman he did not need to do that.

There is about a one-minute gap during which police say they're not sure what happened.

Zimmerman told them he lost sight of Trayvon and was walking back to his SUV when Trayvon approached him from the left rear, and they exchanged words.

Trayvon asked Zimmerman if he had a problem. Zimmerman said no and reached for his cell phone, he told police. Trayvon then said, "Well, you do now" or something similar and punched Zimmerman in the nose, according to the account he gave police.

Zimmerman fell to the ground and Trayvon got on top of him and began slamming his head into the sidewalk, he told police.

Zimmerman began yelling for help.

Several witnesses heard those cries, and there has been a dispute about whether they came from Zimmerman or Trayvon.

Lawyers for Trayvon's family say it was Trayvon, but police say their evidence indicates it was Zimmerman.

One witness, who has since talked to local television news reporters, told police he saw Zimmerman on the ground with Trayvon on top, pounding him — and was unequivocal that it was Zimmerman who was crying for help.

Zimmerman then shot Trayvon once in the chest at very close range, according to authorities.

When police arrived less than two minutes later, Zimmerman was bleeding from the nose, had a swollen lip and had bloody lacerations to the back of his head.

Paramedics gave him first aid but he said he did not need to go to the hospital. He got medical care the next day.

When 25 residents showed up, a decent turnout, she had the residents introduce themselves; after all, people join the groups to look out for each other. She then gave a PowerPoint presentation and distributed a handbook. As she always does, she emphasized what a neighborhood watch is — and what it is not.

In every presentation, “I go through what the rules and responsibilities are,” she said Thursday. The volunteers’ role, she said, is “being the eyes and ears” for the police, “not the vigilante.” Members of a neighborhood watch “are not supposed to confront anyone,” she said. “We get paid to get into harm’s way. You don’t do that. You just call them from the safety of your home or your vehicle.”

Using a gun in the neighborhood watch role would be out of the question, she said in an interview.

According to Chris Tutko, the director of the National Neighborhood Watch Program, there are about 22,000 registered watch groups nationwide, and Zimmerman was not part of a registered group -- another fact the police were not aware of at the time of the incident.

I agree entirely.  I would like to hear that 911 call again where you can hear someone yelling for help.  When I heard it the first time (on the news) I assumed that it was TM because of how the news portrayed it...now I would like to listen again and see if I can tell.  I hate to say this...but I think that it's the truth...this is a black and white thing...AND a right and wrong thing.  Throw bananas if you will...it's just my humble (maybe right maybe wrong opinion).

But, in my defense now.  I don't know the facts of this case.  To me at one point it sounded like Zimmerman was following him around when he should have backed off and let cops take care of it.  He should not have used deadly force, he should not have been chasing him with a gun.  If I were being followed by Zimmerman I would have fought him.  So, I'm not saying it is okay even if he were the one on the ground.  I am just saying that I think that this has become a black and white thing unfortunately, instead of JUST a right and wrong thing.  AND it's sad that the media has played the race thing...they have also automatically portrayed the shooter one way and the victim another...for example the pictures that were displayed.  Now, we find out the parents lied about why he was suspended.  We find out that he was carrying burglary tools at one point and so on...this doesn't mean he deserved to be shot by a neighborhood watch guy...it should have been left for the police.  I don't know if I am getting my point across.

Your point is probably like mine...there are still questions to be answered. 

And the parents of the deceased are not the people to answer them.  They did not tell the whole truth about their son.  They supplied photos that are years old and cast him as a little innocent boy.  They've now come out and accused LE of demonizing their son. 

Let LE investigate and determine whether charges should be brought based on the evidence in the case.  But wait, isn't that what happened at the time of the incident?  Ok, let the state LE investigate WITHOUT undue pressure from media looking to cash in on a story and 'activists' looking for 15 minutes in front of a camera. 

Justice can't be served if the whole truth isn't thoroughly investigated.

Agree...lots of unanswered questions..racism goes both ways. As witnessed on Anderson's show last night. Shocking how much hatred for whites that Black Panther guy has..very disturbing. and to proudly speak of it on national tv...where does all this hate come from? Mom has already copywrited (?) Trayvon's name because there is money to be made on it? At least that is what I thought that I heard on one of the talk shows...not sure how I feel about all of this except that a young man is dead and he should not be! Zimmerman should have let the police do thir job, they were on the way after all. 
I just think that some of the self appointed 'leaders' should not be so fast to jump on the 'race' wagon...and enciting further division among our people.

The lead homicide investigator in the shooting of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin recommended that neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman be charged with manslaughter the night of the shooting, multiple sources told ABC News.
 
But Sanford, Fla., Investigator Chris Serino was instructed to not press charges against Zimmerman because the state attorney's office headed by Norman Wolfinger determined there wasn't enough evidence to lead to a conviction, the sources told ABC News.
 
Police brought Zimmerman into the station for questioning for a few hours on the night of the shooting, said Zimmerman's attorney, despite his request for medical attention first. Ultimately they had to accept Zimmerman's claim of self defense. He was never charged with a crime.
 
Serino filed an affidavit on Feb. 26, the night that Martin was shot and killed by Zimmerman, that stated he was unconvinced Zimmerman's version of events.
 
Zimmerman, 28, claimed he shot Martin, 17, in self defense.

One complicating factor in the investigation was that the first detective to interview Zimmerman about the shooting was a narcotics officer rather than a homicide detective.
 
The State Attorney's office said only "no comment" when asked about the affidavit today.

The Miami Herald obtained a Miami-Dade Schools Police Department report that showed the slain teenager was suspended in October for writing obscene graffiti on a door at his high school.

Absolutely.  How sad for this couple. 

Does it make me a bad person when I say that there is something about Trayvon's mother that puts me off? Her speeches from the beginning seem rehearsed and undertones that I can not quite figure out. Have felt that way from the moment I first listened to her....then not showing current pics of her son, not wanting the true reason of his suspensions from school to come out etc..not trying to blame the victim, Trayvon at all here..but maybe the whole truth is not out there? Dunno...I still think that Zimmerman was the first aggressor here..police had been called, he should have backed off. Then neither he nor Trayvon would be in the horrible position that they are in.
 Not to take away from any of the grief that she is feeling...as a mom, my heart goes out to her. Her son did not deserve to die.  I hope justice is served for his sake.   But I also want the true whole picture to come out.

I understand what you are saying.  I try to put myself in her shoes.  I just don't know enough of the FACTS about the case to go one way or another.  I don't think it's right to display the shooter in one light (his past mug shot, right?) and the victim in another (his like 5th grade football picture)...and lie about his own criminal background and be in support of these activists shouting all of this crap...when it isn't even known if this was a hate crime.  I say crap...only because I just don't see the racism anymore.  I think if it's just left alone...and treat everyone equal and stop trying to single it out...that we will all be fine (but, that's my theory and humble opinion ONLY). I don't know why they are saying anything about black and white...because the shooter isn't even white.  I know that I would be angry...that my son was gone.  So, I don't really know what I would do.  I am also white and I have never really had to deal with being an activist for my race.  If that makes sense?  This is a subject that is so touchy and I never know if I am going to offend anyone...so please...any words that I have said are NOT meant to be offensive.

Ha!  Yeah, I was closing my eyes as I opened the reply post to this...and slowly opening them to see if I had offended anyone.  I hate that it's that way.  I edit papers for older students that have returned to school and I have several that I do for black people (I only say that because of what I am about to write) and I can feel the anger in some of their writing.  They go to an all black college and they are strong in their activism.  Which is great...go for it.  But, I can feel the anger and hostility and I want to ask them if they really do still see racism against them...because I just haven't seen it.  I would really like to know...or if they are just so use to being on the defensive that they just cannot let the anger go.  I could not imagine. 

I have been waiting of a map to get this straight in my head.  Thanks for bringing the link over!  If this map is correct...how can Zimmerman say that Trayvon attacked him as he was getting into his truck?  This would show that, if true, Trayvon attacked him then Zimmerman got up all bloody and hurt and chased him to where the shooting was.  This case is so frustrating!

I think Spike Lee should pay for security for this couple until this is resolved...since he was the one that retweeted it to his followers, most of whom would not have seen it otherwise.

Could he be an investigative reporter? 

IMO this case took on a life of it's own WAY too soon WAY before all the facts were out about the case.  TOO MANY are jumping the gun, on one side or the other without all the facts. 

I'm not going to be horrified that a white guy killed a black 17yr old until I find out all the facts in the case and what exactly happened.  As of now the case is clear as mud and it is very possible it was Zimmerman being attacked.  That said, Trayvon shouldn't have died for it no matter.

Is that what you call YOURSELF?  He is a blogger just like "RED" that happens to live in the Orlando area where many of these cases have gone down.  So he's gone to some court hearings and made every attempt to get himself in the news.

I do feel that the incident would not have happened if Zimmerman ... in his capacity as neighbourhood watchman ... had only called 911 and had not followed Martin.  In other words ... wait for LE to arrive and do their thing.  I can appreciate why Martin felt threatened.  This huge guy was following him and he reponded accordingly with the most force he could muster.  Then it was Zimmerman's turn to defend himself.  In other words ... an unfortunate chain of events.

I do not think for one minute that Zimmerman set out to kill Martin when he began following him.

A race crime?  I don't think so.  The 911 operator asked Zimmerman what was the race of the person he had been following.  Zimmerman responded that he thought he was black.

Why the demonstrations?  I cannot understand why the Black community does not let the investigative process take its course.  I cannot understand why President Obama felt the need to address this isolated incident.

ive been following on and off,i read more and i think the bad guy is the fla. law
stand your ground,the fact that george,followed Trayvon,and Trayvon saw the

I want to express my sorrow to both families. To the Martin's for the premature demise of their son.  To the Zimmeran's for having the media try and convict their son without benefit of a full disclosure, investigation and court trial.

I'm like most of you, baffled by the inconsistencies and lack of truthfulness displayed by MSM, by the celebrities and political leaders who have spread misinformation and played race cards, and by what appears to be a wrongful character portrayal of both Martin and Zimmerman.

I don't understand why MSM and certain persons have stirred the pot to escalate this into a racial hate issue and inciting vigilante street justice into action.

I have many unanswered questions - perhaps I missed the answers along the way.

~What time of night on Sunday was it? 
~How long had Treyvon been gone before he was shot?
~Why did Treyvon's family not report him missing when he didn't return home from running to the convenience store to purchase candy for his brother? IOW, why did TM's body lie in the morgue, unclaimed for 3 days?
~Why did Treyvon's girlfriend allegedly wait so long to speak up about being on the phone with TM during his last moments of life?
~Why aren't the civil liberty leaders concerned about Zimmerman's liberties being corrupted by the MSM?  (he's been tried and convicted in the eyes of the world without the benefit of investigation, arrest, or trial, imo)


One other comment - the police video showing a non bloody GZ - he was treated by paramedics, who clean up blood in order to make sure there will be no more bleeding and to check for more serious injuries

Good afternoon Monkeys--Just passing by but wanted to give you this URL for a video which shows Zimmerman after the incident.  It appears to me that there is no blood on the back of his head as there would be if he had his head smashed repeatedly on the sidewalk, no blood on the front of his shirt which he would have were he punched in the nose.  In fact, no visible signs that he was assaulted at all IMO.  Make your own judgement about it, though.

No blood on his T-shirt from a bloody nose.  I don't think EMT would wash his clothing.  Also, if he had a cut which looked as if it needed stitches on the back of his head, I think there would be some kind of bandage.  Cuts in one's scalp bleed profusely.  I don't see any blood on the back of his jacket, although that's rather hard to tell.

We then contacted the Virginia Supreme Court to confirm Robert Zimmerman’s employment.

“Robert J. Zimmerman served as a full-time magistrate from 2000-2006. Please be advised that in Virginia magistrates are judicial officers, but they are not considered "judges" and do not possess trial jurisdiction. More detailed information on the role of the magistrate in Virginia is available on Virginia's Judicial System Website .”

Following the line going dead ... did the "girlfriend" immediately contact 911 and/or either of Trayvon's parents in regards to her concerns encompassing her boyfriend's saftey?

When did the girlfriend alleged version of a troubling conversation she had with Trayvon emerge or ... was it a fabrication to further a demonization of George Zimmerman.

ABC News was there exclusively as the 16-year-old girl told Crump about the last moments of the teenager's life. Martin had been talking to his girlfriend all the way to the store where he bought Skittles and a tea. The phone was in his pocket and the earphone in his ear, Crump said.

"He said this man was watching him, so he put his hoodie on. He said he lost the man," Martin's friend said. "I asked Trayvon to run, and he said he was going to walk fast. I told him to run, but he said he was not going to run."

Eventually, he would run, said the girl, thinking that he'd managed to escape. But suddenly the strange man was back, cornering Martin.

Trayvon's phone logs, also obtained exclusively by ABC News, show the conversation occurred five minutes before police first arrived on the scene. Crump said the girl's identity was being withheld because "her parents are gravely concerned about her health and her safety." Her parents asked that only an attorney be allowed to ask her questions.

Phone records don't lie.  It appears that Trayvon Martin was talking to his girlfriend just prior to the confrontation with George Zimmerman but ... what was that conversation about.  According to the following words of Zimmerman's father ... the girlfriend did not come forward for three weeks with her version ... her version that implies Trayvon was at risk by an unknown mail following him.  The timeframe prior to coming forward indicates she was not concerned in regards to her boyfriends well-being.

What the video doesn't show, Sheaffer says, is what happened between the shooting and Zimmerman's arrival at the Sanford Police Department on the night of Feb. 26.

Without other evidence in the case and testimony from first responders, including the paramedics who treated Zimmerman, Sheaffer says the video is a piece of an incomplete puzzle.

"The problem that we're having is we're only getting snippets of what the evidence is in this case," Sheaffer said Thursday. "Obviously, the video doesn't tell the whole story."

Local attorney and WESH-Channel 2 analyst Richard Hornsby downplayed the video's impact, and pointed out that one of the officers with Zimmerman in the video "kept looking at the back of his head."

Though difficult to see in the video, some form of injury was "at least obvious to that person," Hornsby said, adding that the video "is absolutely not a game-changer by any means."

Hornsby also pointed out that Florida law wouldn't require Zimmerman to suffer serious injuries before using deadly force. A reasonable belief he was preventing such injuries would be justification.

Are you serious?  Is this from a Charles Bronson Death Wish movie?  Can we go ahead and throw in the next scene played by Clint Eastwood where mild-mannered community hawk George says, “make my day punk” or do we have him reply “look, I’m not wantin’ no trouble here”.  Give me a break.


Brother Robert chimes in and now completely flips George over.  Trayvon was beating George’s FACE against the concrete.  Of course both Daddy Zimmerman and Brother Robert are completely disregarding the part where all the witnesses place the scuffle in the grass, but that’s okay.  Robert now describes George as so brutally injured that George was a veritable vegetable.  It was a wonder he wasn’t sipping tapioca pudding through a straw.  Robert tops off George’s story by proxy by stating George had every right to find Trayvon suspicious because it was raining outside and apparently nobody in Florida but criminals go outside when it rains…which means George would, in fact, be out in the rain bein’s he has committed criminal acts in the past.

From what I have read and heard, I do not believe that trayvon was the aggressor or that he said to Zimmerman upon seeing the gun, you are going to die tonight or what ever was supposedly said at that moment. Trayvon was probably scared that he was being followed in the first place and then when he was confronted with a person with a gun, he may have tried to fight back at that point. Zimmerman should have left things in the hands of the police and left this kid alone! Jmo....I think that Zimmerman's brother was unbelievable. Jmo again...maybe Trayvon did fight Zimmerman but he was probably trying to save his own life. I do believe that it was Trayvon yelling for help that night...wonder how things would have turned out if just 1 person who heard the commotion would have shouted out their window, 'Hey, what is going on out there?  Would it have stopped anything that happened?  Scary maybe, but .....hard to say what any of us would do in a situation like that.

Apparently Roseanne Barr didn't learn anything from the Twitter misadventures of Spike Lee.

Lee apologized on Wednesday evening and offered to compensate an elderly Florida couple who had to flee their home after he tweeted their address on March 23, claiming it was that of the parents of George Zimmerman, the man who killed teenager Trayvon Martin.

But according to the Smoking Gun, on Wednesday, Barr tweeted the correct address for Zimmerman's parents, then deleted the tweet, then threatened to tweet it again.

 “If Zimmerman isn't arrested I'll rt his address again. maybe go 2 his house myself," Barr tweeted.

Criticism came quickly from the comedian's more than 100,000 followers.

Tweeted rob b, “Apparently Roseanne Barr is even dumber than Spike Lee, tweeting the correct home address of George [Zimmerman’s] parents.”

In response, Barr wrote on Twitter Friday, “The 'witchburnings' will continue despite apology…Decent [people] move on, indecent ones like to keep slinging mud [because] they r morally damaged.”

According to the Smoking Gun, the information Barr circulated was correct, however she later admitted, “I don't know if the address is accurate or not.”

The shooting in Sanford, Fla., confirms the value of "stand your ground" laws. As information trickles out, we learn that the shooter, George Zimmerman, had lost track of Trayvon Martin during the course of his service with the gated community's neighborhood watch.

When on his way back to his truck, there are reports that Martin came from behind and slugged Zimmerman, dropping him to the ground. Zimmerman had no way to retreat. The grass stains on the back of his shirt would seem to corroborate that he was simply acting in defense of his life.

If anyone has wondered why the police did not arrest Zimmerman, it's because they were looking at his broken nose and bloody head wound--plus the eyewitness reports that he was the one being pummeled--as objective evidence that Martin was the aggressor.

If George Zimmerman is not arrested in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin soon, theRev. Al Sharpton will call for an escalation in peaceful civil disobedience and economic sanctions.

Sharpton would not say the efforts would be taken against the city of Sanford specifically, but he has been critical of the police department's handling of the case.

Saturday's scheduled 11 a.m. march from Crooms Academy of Information Technology to the Sanford Police Department headquarters was organized by National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Coordinators said people will be bused in from other states to participate.

The civil rights activist and syndicated television show host said he will elaborate on this plan Saturday.

"I will speak about how the National Action Network will move to the next level if Zimmerman isn't arrested," Sharpton said, who founded the organization. He added that it was the Martin family and lawyers who first asked him to get involved and nationalize this story.

TheRev. Jesse Jacksonis also expected to participate in the event.

I think that all of the facts need to be out so that we all can know what really happened. Trayvons parents and zimmermans family and us. At this point, it appears that Zimmerman was the aggressor and followed trayvon when the kid was doing nothing but walking home from the store...but I am waiting with a pretty open mind...would it have been so much different if trayvon was the shooter and Zimmerman was the dead person? I think that trayvon would be in jail right about now. Are we ever going to know what really happened? Sad scenario cause trayvon is dead and Zimmerman is going to be forever looking over his shoulder.....

Both photos are a few years old and no longer entirely accurate. Yet they may have helped shape initial public perceptions of the deadly shooting.
"When you have such a lopsided visual comparison, it just stands to reason that people would rush to judgment," said Kenny Irby, who teaches visual journalism at the Poynter Institute, a journalism think tank in St. Petersburg, Fla.

The most widely seen picture of Martin, released by his family, was evidently taken a few years ago and shows a smiling, round-cheeked youngster in a red T-shirt. But at his death, Martin was 17 years old, around 6 feet tall and, according to his family’s attorney, about 140 pounds.

Zimmerman, 28, is best known from a 7-year-old booking photo of an apparently heavyset figure with an imposing stare, pierced ear and facial hair, the orange collar of his jail uniform visible. The picture, released by police following the deadly shooting, was taken after Zimmerman’s 2005 arrest on an assault-on-an-officer charge that was eventually dropped.

In a police video made public this week of Zimmerman being brought in for questioning a half-hour after the shooting, the 5-foot-9 man appears much slimmer.

I just listened to the 911 call. 

"These assholes always get away." (as quoted by George Zimmerman)  "There's something wrong with him."  (really? he can determine that in the dark and rainy night?)  "He's in his late teens."  (he murdered what he knew to be a teenager)

I'm hearing motive and prejudice. 

The kid was minding his business, getting candy for his brother, and was being followed by some man, first in a truck, then on foot.  The man following him, George Zimmerman, has been arrested for domestic assault, attacking a police officer, and lost a job for being too hostile. 

George Zimmerman instigated the entire scenario.  He alone is to blame for what happened that night.  I don't care about Trayvon's parents, I don't care about George's parents, I don't care that Trayvon smoked pot, or was suspended from school.  Children grow and change and many a young brat can turn into a very productive citizen.  We will never know if Trayvon had great things ahead of him because of some chase and trigger happy vigilante wannabe who thinks he knows what a person is up to just because they are walking around in the rain.

That said, this culture of looting stores, treating females like trash, robbing the homes of others, and looking upon the white race as the enemy is certainly a root cause of what ails us.  In light of that, George Zimmerman still needs to face a court of law for what he has done.

According to a poster at Websleuths, MSNBC said that the Zimmerman's lawyer said that his brother had not spoken to George Zimmerman for two years and just wanted to be on TV.  I believe it was Trayvon yelling for help and I also believe Zimmerman intended to shoot him from the moment he got out of his truck.  If anyone was entitled to "Stand your ground," it was Trayvon.  Zimmerman instigated the entire encounter and was the agressor.  I don think you can be the agressor and then claim self-defense.
Also Zimmerman has no apparent injury one can see in the tape and looks neat, clothes unruffled, but most importantly, if Trayvon punched him in the nose, there would have been copious amounts of blood on Zimmerman's clothing.  There is none.  If one's nose is bleeding, the natural inclination is to lean forward to prevent the blood going down your throat.   Had the blood gone down his nasal passages to his throat, he would have choked.  That's grasping for straws.  EMTs could have stopped the bleeding by packing his nose, but they would not have laundered his shirt for him. That, too, is grasping for straws.
As to Trayvon's parents seeking the help of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, they were getting nowhere with the Sanford police, just a run around.  Who else could they have turned to?  I do not admire either of these men, but I do not blame Trayvon's parents for seeking their help.  Further, if they had not done so, there would have been no action taken, no grand jury, no special prosecutor, no Justice Department, no FBI.
Trayvon would have ended up just one of many young black males murdered under mysterious circumstances and his parents would just have to live with it.  Thank God, those days are over.
Of course Zimmerman and his family are going to say "self defense."  What else would they say?  Certainly not, "yeah, I murdered him, so what?"  In fact, that's just about what was said by George Zimmerman in the beginning and the police said, "OK, you are free to leave."
I also don't believe that Trayvon said, after having been shot, "You got me."  Sounds like a grade B Western.  But, of course, that came from his brother, who, if we can believe MSNBC, knows nothing about what happened because he hasn't talked to his brother. Anyhow, he likely was killed instantly and was unable to say anything.

Now, before anyone again wants to comment on my "Unhappy life" and my "Bitterness," may I say that I didn't think that kind of disrespectful post to another poster was allowed here and am disappointed that it was.  I am extremely happy right now because of circumstances in my life and not the least bit bitter.  Have nothing to be bitter about.

What I pray for in this case is the TRUTH to come out.  I don't care about the race of either of the two (even though in my world if I could pull some white activist out when things weren't being heard in an investigation...that incited riots and crap...I would be an outcast).  I am so glad that we can post our opinions on Scared Monkeys...because I might be pretty upset right now...if we were forced to be one sided.

A leading expert in the field of forensic voice identification sought to answer that question by analyzing the recordings for the Orlando Sentinel.

His result: It was not George Zimmerman who called for help.

Tom Owen, forensic consultant for Owen Forensic Services LLC and chair emeritus for the American Board of Recorded Evidence, used voice identification software to rule out Zimmerman. Another expert contacted by the Sentinel, utilizing different techniques, came to the same conclusion.

SANFORD -- Sunday evening, Feb. 26: It was raining in Central Florida while the NBA All Stars game and the Oscars were about to begin on TV.

A 17-year-old high school junior from Miami Gardens serving a 10-day suspension went to 7-Eleven to get candy. It was the third time Trayvon Martin was disciplined at school, so this time his parents sent him up to a quiet, racially mixed gated community in Sanford with his dad to get his priorities straight. He was black and wore a hoodie.

George Zimmerman, a 28-year-old neighborhood watch volunteer who routinely called police to report anything awry, had just made dinner and told his family he was headed to Target. He was Hispanic and wore a holstered Kel Tek 9mm semiautomatic handgun.

The brief encounter between the two at the Retreat at Twin Lakes community would leave one dead and the other in hiding, give rise to a social movement and, at least temporarily, cost the local police chief his job. In the next 30 days, the name “Trayvon” would be tweeted more than two million times.

In a fast-paced world of 24-hour cable news and nonstop social media, what happened that night has become both common knowledge and a blur of unattributed rumor accepted as fact. A controversial police report incited conspiracy theories and failed to definitively resolve what everyone wants to know: Who picked the fight? Armchair crime scene investigators around the nation insist on access to the evidence, and millions more demand an arrest in a case now being looked at by at least three different agencies, including the FBI.

The protagonists in the saga gripping the nation are Zimmerman, a man with a history of going after suspects in hot pursuit, and Trayvon, a chronically tardy teenager who liked aviation, was making plans for college and got suspended for having an empty baggie containing marijuana residue. Their story begins when Zimmerman got out of his vehicle and pursued Trayvon on foot.

But in the tale pieced together from 911 calls, witnesses, police, Zimmerman’s family and the girl who was on the phone with Trayvon in the last minutes of his life, a key one-minute gap remains a mystery that may never be solved: Who approached whom? Who threw the first blow?

And the key question a special prosecutor in Jacksonville is now tasked to investigate: Did Zimmerman justifiably take Trayvon’s life to save his own?

The encounter

Trayvon, a junior at Dr. Michael M. Krop High, was a lot like most teenagers: He spent an inordinate amount of time on the phone. On that Sunday, he talked for nearly five hours.

Earphones in his ears, Arizona iced tea in hand and a cellphone, Skittles and $22 in his pockets, he chatted the whole way back from the store. It started raining harder as he walked, so he pulled up his hood and sought shelter at one of the buildings in the townhouse complex, the girlfriend he was chatting with on the phone told attorneys.

At 7:11 p.m., Zimmerman, who was in his truck, spotted Trayvon. There had been a rash of burglaries in the neighborhood attributed to young black men, and Zimmerman was wary of someone he did not recognize walking along the path that goes through the back of the townhouses, his father later told a local TV station.

Zimmerman called police. Records show it was the fifth time in a year that he had alerted authorities to the presence of a black male he found suspicious. This one, he said, looked high and had something in one hand while he kept the other in his waist as he peered at houses.

I'm wondering why the Martin Family needs money? They have raised almost $20,000 already for their foundation.

Their lawyer is also a wrongful death lawyer, So do they need this money in order to make a wrongful death case?

That's a fair question and one I almost always ask myself when a child is murdered or missing and the parents set up foundations in their name.

There are times when it is warranted as in the case of the 15 year old girl who was held in the basement of her home by abusive parents.  The parents are being held and she is in foster care... absolutely donations could help the girl rebuild her life but the Billie Dunn's and Casey Anthony's? 

It's sad we have to be cynical but it's the reality of the world we live in.  Frankly, I'd rather mow an elderly neighbors lawn, volunteer at the animal shelter, or pay the utilities of a down and out family member than donate cash to an organized foundation whose expenditures and cash flow are not made public.

Please.  From what we know this kid has no history of violence AND he was not the one with the gun.  My guess is George Zimmerman is the one who told Trayvon he was going to die tonight.  In fact, he was so frustrated with strangers in his neighborhood getting away he was not about to let that happen again on this night.

A newly enhanced version of police video taken on the night of the Trayvon Martinshooting more clearly shows a possible gash or injury on the back of shooter George Zimmerman's head.

ABC News debuted the new video today. In it, an apparent wound of some type can be seen on Zimmerman's head when he turns away from the camera.

The video is an enhanced version of surveillance tape released by the Sanford Police Department last week. It shows Zimmerman being taken into SPD headquarters after the shooting.

Zimmerman was seen by paramedics after the shooting, officials have said, and was released without being arrested that night after he was interviewed by detectives.

In the original version of the video, no injuries were visibly apparent. The video was enhanced for ABC News by Forensic Protection, a California video and audio enhancement firm.

In the enhanced video, as in the original, no blood is visible on Zimmerman or his clothing.

Reuters) - George Zimmerman will turn himself in to authorities in the event he is charged with a crime in the shooting death of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin, his defense attorney Craig Sonner said on Monday.

"If he's charged, he will be arrested and he will turn himself in. However it goes, he's not hiding from the authorities. If he is asked, he will turn himself in. There's not going to be a manhunt or anything like that," Sonner told Reuters in a telephone interview.

The Washington Post's Erik Wemple reported this weekend that NBC is investigating why the "Today" show edited the 911 call from Trayvon Martin's shooter, George Zimmerman, in such a way that it appeared more racially inflammatory than need be:

Two independent forensic voice identification experts found that Zimmerman’s voice did not match the voice crying for help recorded on the 911 calls, according to an Orlando Sentinel investigative report. Sonner replies that throughout the case, “The facts of the evening…have been spun by the media.”

Sonner, who is representing Zimmerman for the first time, took the increasingly high-profile case after Zimmerman’s father reached out to him on his son’s behalf. He did not say whether his client is employed, but he did say that threats against the volunteer watchman are so great that he and his family (he is married but has no children) may never be able to ever return to their home at the Retreat at Twin Lakes. Sonner too has received threats, and his phone is jammed.

Thus far, Sonner says he has had zero communication with Trayvon Martin’s family attorneys. A criminal trial, he explains, would be between the State of Florida and George Zimmerman and would not involve the family lawyers.

Did anyone hear on a morning program when a black speaker talking about Trayvon, said something like, 'Florida, you may have let Casey Anthony go free but you bet not let George Zimmerman go free.'..not word for word but the gist of it...anyways, it caught my attention when he mentioned Casey Anthony. Her case will be brought up forever and ever...The injustice of it all...

This alleged doctoring of the 911 tapes and the "enhanced" police video tapes brings to mind all the scams & conjecture with the Skeeter's / Deepak tapes.  Meanwhile that lawsuit is still dragging on in the courts.

Msnbc.com reports that in 2005, Zimmerman was arrested and charged with “resisting officer with violence” and “battery of law enforcement officer.” He was 20 years old at the time and both charges are third-degree felonies.

It’s bad enough to see the media make assumptions in advance of the facts. What is so depressing about the coverage of the Trayvon Martin shooting is the extent to which the media made assumptions not only before the facts were available but in spite of contradictory evidence that was already available.
The 911 call George Zimmerman made on the night of Martin’s death is perhaps the most crucial piece of evidence cited by the media to drive the narrative that Zimmerman attacked Martin. Yet listening to reporters and talking heads discuss the case, it is as though not a single one of them has ever bothered to listen to the full call. In fact, as Breitbart.com has already revealed, NBC deceptively edited the tape of the 911 call to make it look like Zimmerman was motivated by racial animosity or bias, something that has been widely reported as factual from the beginning.

To this day, even relatively responsible journalists and commentators begin their commentary by saying things like, “There is a lot about the Martin shooting we don’t know, but what we do know is Zimmerman continued following Martin even after the police told him to stop.” The original story, still maintained by various CNN analysts, was even worse: that Zimmerman hunted down and murdered Martin in cold blood.
I have no idea where this assertion of fact could possibly have come from, but it is absolutely universal. Even now, pundits on every channel maintain that Zimmerman disobeyed a police order (though it wasn’t even an order) and continued chasing Martin. Zimmerman’s story from the beginning to police and to the media has been that he stopped following when the dispatcher told him to. There have been no witness statements to the contrary. For that matter, there are no witnesses claiming to have seen what happened before the physical altercation took place. But what does the 911 tape tell us?

From the call released by the Sanford Police:

At 2:07, Zimmerman tells the dispatcher, “He’s running.”

At 2:09, you can hear a car door open and an alarm begins that is undoubtedly the “door open, keys in ignition” warning on Zimmerman’s truck.

At 2:13, you can clearly hear the car door slamming shut, and the alarm stops.

At 2:17, Zimmerman’s voice wobbles and he starts breathing heavily into the phone, indicating that he has started running.

At 2:22, without any prompting other than the aforementioned noises and breathing, the dispatcher asks “Are you following him?” to which Zimmerman responds, “Yeah.”

At 2:26, the dispatcher says, “Okay, we don’t need you to do that,” to which Zimmerman responds, “Okay.”
Zimmerman proceeds to give the dispatcher his name. Then he says, “He ran.”
Zimmerman can still be heard breathing into the phone until about 2:39, at which point the heavy breathing stops entirely, a mere 13 seconds after the dispatcher asked him to stop following. A very calm and collected Zimmerman then proceeds to give the dispatcher his own information, directions and a description of his location for another 1 minute and 33 seconds.
The difference between someone running while on the phone and not running can be heard quite clearly, and I encourage readers to listen for themselves.


There’s another reason to believe that Zimmerman stopped following Martin: After he gives the dispatcher his personal address, at 3:35, he says, “Oh crap, I don’t want to give that all out. I don’t know where this kid is,” meaning he is worried Martin might hear where he lives. If Zimmerman doesn’t even know where Martin is, would it even be possible for him to still be following Martin at this point? Would it even be possible for him to have continued following Martin after hanging up the phone — a full two minutes after he first got out of his car and a minute and a half after he fully stops breathing heavily — unless Martin came back and revealed himself?
It was a mistake for Zimmerman to leave his car in the first place. But while the audio may not decisively prove that Zimmerman stopped following Martin when the dispatcher asked him to, it is very strong evidence that he did, especially when coupled with his testimony to police the night of the incident. But that isn’t even the point.
The point is this: With no witnesses stating that Zimmerman defied the dispatcher’s wishes and continued following Martin and no evidence to suggest he did, how did the idea that he pursued Martin after the dispatcher told him not to become a universally recognized, undisputed fact?

In one case, he said, Zimmerman, who is white of Hispanic descent, mentored a black woman's daughter and son. He asked the woman if Zimmerman was a racist and whether he used racial slurs, and she answered no. "She had good things to say," said Sonner adding that both that woman and another black friend of Zimmerman's won't come forward because they are afraid of backlash.

— Sonner said the 911 tape released by the police department is "not the whole 911 tape." Sonner did not elaborate on what that meant.

— Sonner continually said that the portrayal of this case in the media has been misleading.

"Let law enforcement do their job," he said. "Let the court system do its job. Let's get all the information the legal way not just some of things that come out in blurbs. There are legal requirements as to what's admissible evidence and what isn't. And when it comes down to that we'll see the facts from the legal perspective and we'll see what happened."

— Paragraph 3 of the stand your ground law will be relevant to Zimmerman's defense if this case goes to trial, said Sonner. Paragraph 3 of the statute states that a person has a right to stand his ground and "meet force with force."

— Sonner would not comment on any previous arrests in Zimmerman's background. He said those, if they exist, would likely be inadmissible in court anyway.

I don't think that this was racial on Zimmerman's part....the media and a group of people have made it racial IMO.... I just think that he was/is a Barney Fife who let it go to his head that he was important and powerful because he was carrying a gun....a wanna be cop if you will...

Zimmerman supporters are blaming the victim

A full month after the slaying of Trayvon Martin, there is still no arrest in the case. The shooter, George Zimmerman, is in hiding, saying he fears for his life amid mass protests and the New Black Panthers' $10,000 bounty for his “capture.”

And as calls for justice in the case continue to swell, Zimmerman supporters, seeking to add credence to his account of the shooting, have begun to dig up disparaging information on Trayvon, based on his school records and Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Zimmerman supporters criticized early pictures shown in news reports that depicted the teen as young, fresh-faced and innocent, so they have presented what are purported to be more mature and unkempt images of the young man -- one in which Trayvon is seen with a mouth full of gold teeth; in another he is shirtless and with pants sagging. In one purported Facebook picture, Trayvon is allegedly seen with his middle finger erect on both hands.

Zimmerman supporters, in online blogs, point out to protesters that they weren't present when Trayvon was killed, so they are ignorant of the facts. They also point to Trayvon’s alleged marijuana use, gold teeth and his demeanor on alleged Facebook pictures as proof that he had a thug mentality and was fully capable of the violent behavior that Zimmerman accuses him of.

I believe it is fair that Trayvon's past be investigated, just as George Zimmerman's past is being scrutinized. But the irrational attempts to justify the killing of this young man by insinuating that he brought death upon himself because he looked, dressed or posed in a certain way is repugnant and evil.

Meanwhile, we don't know whether George Zimmerman was intoxicated on the night of the killing because Sandford police failed to test him for alcohol or drugs. We do know that Zimmerman was a cop wannabe and that he had made numerous calls to 911 over the last several months.

We know that Zimmerman made disparaging and possibly racist comments as he stalked Trayvon through the housing complex.

I don't need to defend or justify Trayvon Martin against these accusations. It is irrelevant whether he smoked marijuana. It is irrelevant if he wore a gold grill. It is even irrelevant if it is indeed him pictured giving the finger on Facebook. As a parent, I condemn these practices. But if we were to execute all who have been guilty of any or all of the above, I dare say, the world would be a decidedly empty place.

What is relevant is that on the date of his death, Trayvon was in his family's neighborhood. He was on common property. He was not in the act of committing a crime. Police have not claimed that he was anything other than sober.

What is relevant is that by George Zimmerman's own admission, Trayvon was profiled based on his clothing and his race and assigned the label "suspicious." He was followed, questioned by an adult who outweighed him by more than 100 pounds and who was armed with a gun.

And finally the boy was killed.

When I think back to the Natalie Holloway murder and how it consumed America's news for months, I don't remember hearing attempts to sully her reputation. No one asked why she was drinking. No one asked if drugs were involved. No one questioned what she wore. No one asked why she would leave a bar with a complete stranger. No one tried to say that she brought about her own demise because of her looks or behavior. And rightfully so.

It is never right to blame the victim for the crime committed against him or her. The deranged and evil killer who took the life of Natalie Holloway killed her not because of who she was but because of who he was. Yet Joran Vandersloot was protected and sheltered from the law by his parents, his supporters and by the Aruban legal system that seemed bent on protecting it's own while devaluing the life of the "outsider." The killer, Vandersloot, was saved from prosecution by those who perverted the law and used their influence and money to stand between him and justice.

The result was that five years to the day after Holloway's disappearance, Vandersloot savagely claimed another victim. Justice finally prevailed in that instance, but the price paid was the life of another young girl.

It is said that the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior, especially recent past behavior. And given the information that has surfaced thus far, I am more concerned about the erratic and irrational behavior of the adult, George Zimmerman, than I am about the teenage behaviors of Trayvon Martin.

Laws exist to punish criminal behavior, to deter crime and to protect society from those who would go outside of the law to abuse and harm us.

Zimmerman's supporters are using irrelevant information in an attempt to muddy the water in this case, thereby allowing a killer to escape just punishment for his crime.

And to George Zimmerman supporters I say, if Vandersloot tactics are used to keep George Zimmerman from answering for this crime, the next child he kills might well be yours.

This case is a prime example why I feel that the "Make My Day" law is WRONG!! In an instant two families lives are changed forever. There truly are no winners in this case.

Frank Taaffe, George Zimmerman’s neighbor and former Neighborhood Watch captain, tells CNN’s Soledad O’Brien that prior robberies in area were by young black males and that Zimmerman protected his residence from a potential burglary on February 2nd. Taaffe denies telling The New York Times that the prior burglaries were done by “Trayvon-like dudes with their pants down."
 
Taffe says, “We had eight burglaries in our neighborhood all perpetrated by young black males in the 15 months prior to Trayvon being shot. It would have been nine - there would have been nine, but George Zimmerman through his efforts of being a neighborhood watch captain helped stop one in progress, documented in the 911 calls February 2. Dispicable.  The only regrets they have is because they got caught imo.  The really sad thing is, damage is done. Martin turned to Patricia Jones, his sister-in-law.

An attorney herself, she knew whom to call: Benjamin Crump, the state's best-known civil rights attorney, based in Tallahassee. Crump and law partner Daryl Parks had previously gained renown representing the family of a black teenager who died in a boot-camp-style youth detention center in 2006, winning the boy's family $7.2 million in damages from the state of Florida and Bay County.

"I told him to believe in the system," Crump said of that first call. "I really believed they were going to arrest Zimmerman. I said, 'He's a neighborhood watch person with a gun. Of course they are going to arrest him just for that.'" "Then 48 hours passed and they still hadn't arrested him," Crump said. "After that we just had to do what we had to do."

He took the case pro bono. Realizing he needed a lawyer who knew Sanford and Seminole County, Crump turned to Natalie Jackson, a former Navy intelligence officer who founded the Women's Trial Group, which specializes in cases for women and children. Her mother lives in Sanford.


Now Crump and Jackson needed a media strategy. On March 5, Jackson brought in Ryan Julison, a publicist who had worked with her on a number of high-profile cases. After speaking with Tracy Martin, Julison said he also took the job for free and went to work pitching the story to national media.

"I got on the phone with Tracy Martin and I told him, ‘It's not going to be any fun, but this is the only way to find justice,'" Julison said. "You are going to have to bare your soul and express your emotions and your inner grief." Martin and Fulton agreed. There was only one problem. At first, the media weren't interested. Julison pitched the story to a long list of media contacts.

Eventually, on March 7, Reuters published a story titled "Family of Florida Boy Killed by Neighborhood Watch Seeks Arrest." The next day, CBS News aired a segment on "This Morning," and by 10 a.m. a crowd of reporters gathered at Natalie Jackson's law office for a news conference with Ben Crump and Tracy Martin. A media firestorm had begun.

NBC's "Today" show ran the edited audio of Zimmerman's phone call to a police dispatcher, seeming to show Zimmerman saying, "This guy looks like he's up to no good … he looks black."

A transcript of the complete 911 call shows that Zimmerman said, "This guy looks like he's up to no good. Or he's on drugs or something. It's raining and he's just walking around, looking about."

The 911 officer responded saying, "OK, and this guy — is he black, white or Hispanic?"

"He looks black," Zimmerman said.

The abridged conversation between Zimmerman and the dispatcher that NBC ran on March 27 has been blasted by media watchdog groups as misleading. Critics have said the edited version was made to suggest that Zimmerman targeted Martin because he was black -- an accusation by many that is still under investigation.

Enhanced video of George Zimmerman being led into a Florida police station appears to show possible injuries to the back of his head, lending credence to his claim he was in a struggle with Trayvon Martin when he shot the teen.

ABC News initially released video of Zimmerman that did not clearly show marks on his scalp, but had the video enhanced digitally and released a new clip on Monday. That clip appears to show a gash.

Tonight driving through our neighborhood to home...3 kids were walking with hoodies on...dark out, not raining, not cold here, could not tell what race they were until I was right even with them...they were white, I am white...but honestly, I do see how this looks kind of, what is the word...not suspicious as much as why are you hiding your faces? What are you up to...this does not make me racist, this makes me cautious...does that make sense to you all? I am not saying that anyone who wears a hoodie on their head is up to no good, but most of their face is obscured...at our bank there is a sign posted, no hoodies on the head, sunglasses  on when entering this bank. Most of the robberies in our town has involved someone wearing a hoodie...whether white or black committing the robberies, I do not know...but hoodies have been involved..
Mind you, I wear hoodies all the time myself, love them, but not where it covers my head or face although I would pull the hood onto my head if I was out in the rain....

So what's the Martin Family going to do If this goes to trial and the jury says "Not Guilty' or the GJ decides there is not enough evidence to charge?

Hi Seahorse.  I can only speak for myself... a mother of an 18 year old son preparing to join the Coast Guard.  If he were to die defending his country I would be no less heartbroken but at least his death would not feel senseless.

If my child were to be murdered the way Trayvon was murdered and the police were taking no measures to investigate or prosecute the man who stalked my child on a rainy eve then shot him, I would be beside myself with agony and frustration.

There is a lot of passion about Trayvon's death and I totally agree with your assessment about why... to let the life of a 17 year old boy be discounted so easily would be an indication of how low our society has gone.  I for one am thankful the public has taken this on.

I hope investigators don't focus so tightly on Trayvon's civil rights or possible racial profiling by George Zimmerman that they lose sight of the fact that a murder was committed.

It's possible George Zimmerman would have done exactly the same thing if a white boy in a hoodie was walking through his neighborhood.

Amy's sister, I do think that Zimmerman would have reacted the same way to anyone he saw in the neighborhood walking around with a hoodie on...black people are not the only race who wear hoodies..a previous post of mine, 3 youths were in my neighborhood walking with their hoodies on, I could see that they were all 3 white only when I was even with them while driving next to them...one of them was a girl, which I could not see from behind them...
Their faces were almost covered as the hoodies were pulled pretty far down on their faces...

Just wanted to express my thoughts about this case and Thank God I can come here to do it  I am shocked that a 28 year old man is allowed to walk around a neighborhood armed and his self proclaimed title of neighborhood watch captain supposedly makes this alright.  A young man is now dead (I personally do not believe the self defense story). If Zimmerman was afraid for his life why the h3!! didn't he keep 911 on the line until the police got there? Why didn't the 911 operator keep him on the line anyway? I just don't understand a 911 call that hangs up before the police get there except that Zimmerman did not express any life threatening fear to the 911 operator and seemed to be in no danger at all.  Why didn't he call 911 back the moment he felt threatened?  He didn't hesitate to call about his suspicions why wouldn't he call if things had escalated to the point that he was afraid for his life?

I find it interesting that in order to be a security guard in Florida you have to jump through a bunch of hoops and to be an armed security guard you have to jump through a bunch more.  You have to be licensed and there are several Classes of licensing - for example the following

I hope this post isn't too long and apologize if it is but I just wanted to point out all the regulations that apply to professional security and police officers and wonder why someone like Zimmerman can voluntarily do all of those things without licensing or consequence.  IMO he is nothing more than a self appointed vigilante who believes he can take the law in his own hands and get away with it. IMO he is getting away with it so far!!!

George Zimmerman has hired attorney Hal Uhrig, stations reported tonight. The name will be familiar to people who followed the Casey Anthony coverage, because Uhrig offered analysis for Fox-owned WOFL-Channel 35.

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A decision could come in the next few days on George Zimmerman's fate. The state prosecutor is close to finishing up with her investigation.
 
Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin on Feb. 26 in a Sanford gated community. Zimmerman claims Martin physically attacked him after Zimmerman questioned why he was in the neighborhood. The two clashed in circumstances that remain unclear, which led to Zimmerman shooting the unarmed Martin, killing him. Though he was taken into police custody that night, he was never formally arrested and has not been charged with any crime.
The case has sparked outrage in central Florida and across the country.
 
The grand jury is just days away from convening and everyone wants to know what will happen to George Zimmerman? What will happen after the decision comes down?
 
Some are more optimistic than others. "I have all the faith in the city there will be no violence," said Sanford resident Hank Dieckhaus.
 
But still others wonder if there will be fights? Will there be riots? Or will there be a sudden calm.?
 
Sanford is a time bomb but Mayor Jeff Triplett says he is not worried…yet, "That's the concern you really don't know. It's really truly out of our hands now. We have done everything we could to get here."
 
And that everything means a contingency plan or two. City sources tell FOX 35 that the Seminole County Sheriff's Office and Sanford Police Department have put some of their staff on stand-by and the emergency operations center is ready to activate when and if they need it. A half a dozen public information officers are already in place and both Sanford and Seminole county fire are preparing.
 
Last week, Seminole County Fire Chief's met with the Department of Justice to figure out what to do if the city comes unhinged. Looking at the map, and correct me if I'm wrong, but one can see the location from where George Zimmerman finished his 911 call and the path back to his pick up.  If F on the map is where the murder took place does it seem like George went way off the path back to his truck?  In the same direction that Trayvon would have been walking to get back home?

If I'm right this is further evidence that George Zimmerman was in pursuit of Trayvon and remained so even after the 911 operator told him not to.

Thank-you for the map.  Websleuths.com also asked questions (a few days ago),
a WS sleuth, posted, a very detailed map on their forum.  I was tempted to bring the link over here,(they are a little stingy), I decided not to. The WS poster even detailed the timing of the phone calls, map, including the trip to the station, it was impressive.

A Florida Grand Jury is scheculed to meet this coming Tuesday, I think it will be interesting.

The man who shot Trayvon Martin has been in hiding since the story made national news. Now, George Zimmerman’s family is setting up a website, www.zimmermandefense.com, to raise money for “their living expenses and for his defense,” the family’s attorneys said in a statement Friday. Zimmerman has said that his shooting of the unarmed 17-year-old Martin was in self-defense, and the neighborhood watch captain has yet to be charged with a crime. The website was not live as of Friday morning.

A voice stress test is like a polygraph, but instead of measuring heart rate and blood pressure, it looks for changes in an individual's voice patterns that are thought to suggest psychological stress. With the help of software, investigators record a suspect answering baseline questions and then compare them to answers about the case.

This technology is not unique to Sanford. The National Institute for Truth Verification, a manufacturer of the technology, claims that over 1,800 local, state and federal law enforcement agencies use their product. They also claim to have trained U.S. Military personnel.

Expert opinion is mixed, but a study commissioned by the Justice Department suggests that a voice stress test is "no better than flipping a coin." For this reason, like its cousin the polygraph, George Zimmerman's voice stress test probably wouldn't be admissible at trial. However, it can still be used in the investigatory phase.

George Zimmerman's voice stress test came out clean, according to attorney Hal Uhrig. If the Sanford Police Department is willing to spend more than $10,000 on the product, then it probably trusts its results. And those results probably corroborated what officers initially saw at the scene.

NBC News has fired the producer it says was responsible for creating the deceptive audio recording of George Zimmerman communicating with a 9-1-1 operator, according to the New York Times.
 
The network is still refusing to release the name of the producer, although according to Times reporter Brian Stelter, the producer is based in Miami and has worked there for a number of years. According to Stelter's network sources, NBC is still insisting the deceptive edit was not done deliberatiely. The network has refused to say how exactly someone could accidentally have edited the tape to make Zimmerman appear to be racially motivated:

Navi Pillay, the U.N.'s human rights chief, has called for the organization to launch an immediate investigation into the case.

Unless those findings don't result in a charge, George Zimmerman is keeping quiet.

“As soon as he is either dismissed, or they decide not to charge him, or he is eventually vindicated, he’ll come out,’’ said attorney Hal Uhrig, who is defending Zimmerman along with Craig Sonner. “If they charge him, then you’re not going to hear from him until it’s over.’’

Uhrig and Sonner expect to meet with Zimmerman this week. The neighborhood watch volunteer, who shot 17-year-old Martin in what he claims was self-defense, has been in hiding because of threats against his life.

Zimmerman's quick release by the Sanford police and the state attorney — just seven hours and 50 minutes after the shooting — has come under scrutiny. Within a week, the state attorney had ruled that Zimmerman feared for his life and should not be charged.

He loved rap music and enjoyed cracking jokes on Twitter about street culture.

The 17-year-old high school junior known as “Slimm” tweeted thousands of times over a period of months. His last 140-character message came just two days before he was gunned down in a gated townhouse community in Sanford.

But in the racially divisive media hype that has followed the teenager’s controversial killing, pages of nonsensical Twitter updates written back when Trayvon’s biggest concerns were getting a call back from a girl are now being examined and scrutinized by bloggers around the nation.

Critics call attention to his tattoos, an empty marijuana bag found in his school book bag, and a photo that purports to show him with gold teeth — “grills,” in hip-hop parlance — to show that he had a violent nature and that his family deliberately tried to keep this image from the public. His email accounts were hacked by white supremacists and his tweets were exposed by the conservative website The Daily Caller.

But friends say Trayvon wasn’t into violence.

“When I heard about the tragedy and the initial story, I knew it wasn’t true,” said Ricaysha Milton, 17, who knew Trayvon from Carol City High School, and corresponded with him over Twitter. “Trayvon is the ‘walk away’ type of guy. He’d rather walk away than fight.’’

Prosecutor: No grand jury

But in highly controversial or difficult cases, prosecutors often defer to a grand jury, leaving the politically charged decision to a panel of citizens

Corey’s office pointed out that the decision not to take the case to a grand jury should not be taken as an indication of which way she’s going to decide.

Benjamin Crump, an attorney for Trayvon’s parents, issued a statement after Corey’s decision Monday.

I agree with what you are saying.  My question is pretty simple:  Did GZ stop chasing him once he called the police and they told him to stop?  (Now it gets complicated.) If so, then what happened AFTER that; was HE then attacked?  Did it turn into a self-defense case?  If he didn't stop, then he is guilty IMO.  If people make their decisions because of all of the hoopla then I'm going to be angry.  Look at the evidence on this case like ANY other.  If they didn't do this from the beginning then shame on them.

Updated at 6:29 p.m. ET: George Zimmerman, the Florida man who claims he shot and killed Trayvon Martin in self-defense, has set up a personal website to collect money for his legal expenses, his attorneys told NBC News on Monday.

Several sites purporting to raise money for Zimmerman, 28, have popped up since he shot Martin, 17, on Feb. 26 in Sanford, Fla., but "I cannot attest to the validity of these other websites," Zimmerman writes on therealgeorgezimmerman.com.

Attorneys confirmed to NBC News that the site, which domain records show was created Sunday, is real and is operated by Zimmerman himself. It solicits donations through PayPal with a promise that "any funds provided are used only for living expenses and legal defense, in lieu of my forced inability to maintain employment."

Access to the site was hit or miss as it appeared to be having trouble handling a heavy stream of visitors after msnbc.com's initial report Monday afternoon. It wasn't known whether any of those visitors had used the provided link to make a donation.

As for the case itself, Zimmerman says, "I cannot discuss the details of the event on February 26th" to allow authorities "to proceed with their investigation unhindered."

In a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder on Monday, obtained exclusively by The Daily Caller, a family member of George Zimmerman asked the nation’s top law enforcement officer why he has chosen to not arrest members of the New Black Panther Party for their rhetoric — some of which may fit the federal government’s definition of a hate crime — throughout the Trayvon Martin case.
 
The family member believes the reason Holder hasn’t made those arrests is because he, like the members of the New Black Panther Party, is black.
 
“I am writing you to ask you why, when the law of the land is crystal clear, is your office not arresting the New Black Panthers for hate crimes?” the family member wrote to Holder.
 
“The Zimmerman family is in hiding because of the threats that have been made against us, yet the DOJ has maintained an eerie silence on this matter. These threats are very public. If you haven’t been paying attention just do a Google search and you will find plenty. Since when can a group of people in the United States put a bounty on someone’s head, circulate Wanted posters publicly, and still be walking the streets?”
 
The New Black Panthers have issued ultimatums to the Sanford authorities, saying they want Zimmerman arrested “dead or alive.” They have placed a bounty on Zimmerman’s head, and have called for the building of an army of vigilantes to track him down and effect a citizen’s arrest.
 
Most recently, the New Black Panther Party has called for violence.

The special prosecutor who's deciding whether to file charges announced today that she's not going to take the case to a grand jury. That's a step that would only be required in a first-degree murder case.
 
Angela Corey could still charge Zimmerman with a serious felony such as manslaughter, which can carry a lengthy prison sentence.
 
One Florida defense attorney says the decision not to go to a grand jury means Corey won't have to rely on potentially-unpredictable jurors. David Hill says Corey may know that there isn't enough for a first-degree murder charge, but she wants to charge him with something else -- and she now can "maintain control" of that process.

I'm of the opinion that no matter what George Zimmerman does, he's screwed.  If there are no charges laid, his life is still screwed.  I've seen plenty of Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Black Panther's, shutting down a police station, threats of violence if charges are not brought.  Is that justice?  Is it a form of lynching?  Where is the legal process?  I don't know if George Zimmerman is guilty or not of anything at this point, because I don't have enough information. I'm very concerned by some of what has been incorrectly reported and then found to be untrue.  People tend to believe the negative and what they've been told first, imo.  This includes the editing of the audio.  I'm not taking either side here, because it pains me greatly to know a young man died.  But what were the circumstances?  We need to know that.  There has been some finely crafted PR, including using young, innocent child pictures of Trayvon, while George Zimmerman's along side it and he looks scruffy.  It has impact and effect. 
So one of Trayvon's attorney blasts George Zimmerman's website.  George Zimmerman has the right to free speech, he has the right to get help for his legal expenses imo.  We haven't heard a lot from George Zimmerman, but look what happens when he does make a statement.  I am very concerned that since Al Sharpton and etal got involved, it brings out the skinheads on the other end.  None of this is good for any one.  People are using this for their own personal agendas.

NBC selectively edited George Zimmerman’s 911 call to make him appear racist.  NBC heard about the story after everyone, they claim:
 

Sources at the network told Reuters on Thursday that NBC News executives did not know the emergency call was misleadingly edited until news reports surfaced days later on blogs including newsbusters.org and Breitbart.com.
 
So, there’s that. And you’re welcome, NBC. They also apparently fired someone but said that the editing was "a mistake"--yet we don’t know who they fired and we don’t know how it was a mistake.
 
CNN’s Racist Audio Fiasco
 
The CNN show Anderson Cooper 360 ran a report on March 21st that showed, with a dramatic technological flourish. that George Zimmerman had muttered a racial epithet under his breath as he pursued Trayvon Martin. That was the main piece of actual evidence of racism in the story.
 
Except, a week later CNN had another expert on who said that Zimmerman didn’t say ‘coon,’ but said ‘cold’ instead. Except, then an expert said the word was ‘punks’ not ‘cold.  And now what does CNN say?
 
Sometimes we hear what we want to hear.

(CBS News) SANFORD, Fla. - Shots were fired at a Sanford police car parked near the scene of the Trayvon Martin shooting. According to authorities, the cruiser was found Tuesday morning with bullet holes in it and at least window blown out.

Police said no one was inside the cruiser, which was parked across the street from the Retreat at Twin Lakes apartment complex, near the front of Bentley Elementary School.

CBS affiliate WKMG reports witnesses said they heard six shots. At least two bullets struck the patrol car.   ::snipping2::

is a problem.  We've already seen what 'news reports' show in this case and it isn't always the truth.  When the State's Atty says the man was drunk, I'll believe it.

Oh my goodness...why don't they stop this crap...and that isn't by backing down!  I agree that an investigation should be ongoing...like ANY other case.  If my child was taken in this manner I would demand an investigation...but, in no way would I be okay with the violence.  I would get on national television and demand that everyone stop the violence and if protest were needed it would be quietly done.  I would use my resources not THIS!

The case of Martin, an unarmed black teenager who was killed by Zimmerman, a Hispanic crime-watch volunteer, has stirred conversations across the country about race, crime and profiling.

Investigators believe that case was the catalyst for the beating Saturday in Gainesville.

“We do believe that the crime was racially motivated,” Gainesville Police Department spokeswoman Cpl. Angelina Valuri said.

The assailants were black, while the victim is white, Valuri said.

(CNN) -- On the basis of the evidence currently in the public record, one likely outcome of the case against George Zimmerman is a mixed one: There may be sufficient evidence for a reasonable prosecutor to indict him for manslaughter, but there may also be doubt sufficient for a reasonable jury to acquit him.
 
Any such predictions should be accepted with an abundance of caution, however, because the evidence known to the special prosecutor, but not to the public, may paint a different picture. It may be stronger or weaker.
 
Media reports suggest that police found Zimmerman with grass stains on the back of his shirt, bloody bruises on the back of his head and other indicia that may support his contention that Trayvon Martin was banging his head against the ground when Zimmerman shot him.
 
We don't know what Martin's body or clothing show, other than the fatal bullet wound. If there are no comparable bruises or grass stains and if the bullet wound and powder residue establish that the gun was fired at very close range, this too might support a claim of self-defense.
 
Then there is a recorded cry for help, which, if it turns out to be the voice of Martin, would undercut the defense -- if the voice analysis passes scientific muster and is deemed admissible into evidence.
 
There may be additional forensic evidence -- or witnesses -- of which we are now unaware, though it is unlikely there is a "smoking gun."
 
Finally, there is the overarching and historically painful reality that an unarmed black teenager lies dead at the hand of an armed Hispanic man who ignored a dispatcher's advice not to follow and engage the "suspect," and who may have -- and this too is forensically unclear -- uttered a racial epithet while chasing him.
 
These "facts" give rise to several possible scenarios of what may actually have occurred on that dark rainy night. Under the Florida self-defense statute, it matters greatly what happened, most especially who "initially provoke[d] the use of force," and who started the physical encounter.
 
If Zimmerman initially provoked the deadly encounter, then he cannot invoke any "stand your ground" defense. He would then be under a legal obligation to "exhaust ... every reasonable means to escape."
 
Though this statute is anything but a model of clarity, it does suggest that whoever "provokes" a deadly encounter has a heavy burden of justification in claiming self-defense. But the statute doesn't define "provokes," and that ambiguous word may hold the key to the outcome of this tragic case.
 
If provocation is limited to a physical assault, and if Zimmerman's account that Martin blindsided him with a punch is believed, then Zimmerman did not provoke the encounter. But if provocation includes following the victim and harassing him, then Zimmerman may well qualify as a provocateur. Moreover, a jury may believe that Zimmerman started the physical confrontation by grabbing Martin. This would almost certainly constitute provocation.
 
But to complicate matters further, even a provocateur has the legal right to defend himself under Florida law if he can't escape and if he is in imminent danger of death or great bodily harm, as Zimmerman claims he was.
 
All this goes to show how factually driven this case is under Florida law. And we don't yet know all the facts. The special prosecutor, who has said she will not use a grand jury to decide whether to indict Zimmerman, has an obligation to consider all the evidence and to apply the law to the facts.  ::snipping2::

RNN) - Attorneys for George Zimmerman said Tuesday they have lost touch with him, and are withdrawing their counsel. They have not met the embattled neighborhood watch captain face-to-face.

The last time they heard from him was Sunday.
 
"He has not returned phone calls or text messages or e-mails, which has led me to believe that I cannot go forward speaking [on his behalf]," Craig Sonner, one of Zimmerman's former attorneys, said.
 
Hal Uhrig, Zimmerman's former attorney, said Zimmerman has contacted Fox News' Sean Hannity, as well as prosecutors working on the case.
 
"We were quite astonished at that," Uhrig said.
 
The pair helped Zimmerman set up a website to raise funds for his defense with money set to go directly to Zimmerman's father. However, when the attorneys began getting questions from reporters about The Real George Zimmerman website, they realized he had gone off on his own and set up the website himself.

Uhrig said they know where Zimmerman is; however, he will not return phone calls from them.
 
"We have a pretty good idea of where he is. We have his phone number," Uhrig said. "It goes to voice mail. That's the number he's used to contact the prosecutor's office."
 
Sonner said his former legal team cannot represent Zimmerman under the current conditions.
 
"We cannot ethically go forward and say we are representing George Zimmerman when he's giving interviews and things, and setting up wesites that I don't know about," Sonner said.
 
Uhrig said he was concerned about Zimmerman's condition, indicating Zimmerman has lost weight and is probably suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
 
"Our fear is not so much about the money. We were initially concerned about the website that someone else had set this up and was taking advantage of the situation. Our concern runs deeper than that," Uhrig said. "This has been a terribly corrosive process"
 
Both lawyers indicated they strongly believe in Zimmerman's innocence, as far as his claims that he acted in self-defense.
 
"We absolutely stand by everything we've said about this case. We hope for the best for George Zimmerman. We hope for the best for the Martin family," Uhrig said. "He's gotta reach out to us. We are his legal representatives. He's got to affirm that. If he does that, we'll help him."

They also said he contacted the Florida special prosecutor investigating the Feb. 26 shooting death of Martin.

Updated at 5:06 p.m. ET: Addressing the question of, "Is George Zimmerman a racist?", Uhrig cites Zimmerman's mixed heritage -- his mother is Peruvian -- and his having friends of other races.

"He's not a member of the Aryan Nation," he says. "He's a neighborhood-watch guy."

Update at 5:04 p.m. ET: Sonner and Uhrigh both reiterate that they believe that the evidence shows Zimmerman "was acting in self-defense that night."

I've just spoken with my father who is a retired law enforcement officer.  He said absolutely, if you have a suspect at the scene of a homicide you can do drug and alcohol testing and it does not have to be at their consent.  Florida may be different but in our state it is standard procedure.

I have a cousin who is a LE officer in Massachusettes and I'm going to check in with her as well.

Whatever the money does, it won't bring back their child who was taken from them.

Although it may be done without consent, I would think a warrant would be necessary if it is to be used in a court of law.

Frank Taaffe tells Local 6 he spoke to Zimmerman after grand jury announcement

In the midst of attorneys saying they couldn't reach George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watchman who shot and killed Trayvon Martin, Zimmerman's neighbor says he talked to him Monday.

Frank Taaffe told Local 6 he spoke with Zimmerman on Monday afternoon around 1 p.m.,  just after special prosecutor Angela Corey decided not to send the case to a grand jury. He said Zimmerman called him and they talked for about 30 minutes.

Taaffe didn't go into huge detail about their conversation, but he did say Zimmerman's former attorneys weren't accurate when characterizing his emotional state at a news conference Tuesday. Zimmerman's attorneys Hal Uhrig and Craig Sonner have stepped down, saying they couldn't get a hold of Zimmerman and hadn't heard from him since Sunday.

"I was a little irate when I heard afterwards that people were concerned with-I guess one of them mentioned they were concerned for his mental well-being," Taafe said. "Of course he's going through some fluctuations in his life right now, but I can assure you that he was, once again, lucid, concise and clear. He wanted to share with the public that he called me."

Sonner cited ethical concerns in withdrawing as Zimmerman's lawyer. Under Florida's Rules of Professional Conduct, a lawyer may withdraw if "the client insists upon taking action that the lawyer considers repugnant, imprudent, or with which the lawyer has a fundamental disagreement."

There are also situations in which a Florida lawyer must withdraw. They include when a client engages in criminal conduct, or when a lawyer is too physically or mentally impaired to do her job.

Again, Zimmerman hasn't been charged with a crime. But if proceedings had already commenced against him, his lawyers likely would have needed the court's permission to withdraw. In the end, it's the judge's decision.

Attorneys Craig Sonner and Hal Uhrig said they may represent George Zimmerman again, if he asks them to. But Zimmerman has not returned their calls, text messages, or emails. "He's gone on his own. I'm not sure what he's doing or who he's talking to," Sonner said, according to the Associated Press.

Florida's law states that a person who is not engaged in an unlawful activity and who is attacked in any place where he or she has a right to be has no duty to retreat and has the right to stand his or her ground and meet force with force, including deadly force ... to prevent death or great bodily harm.

So even if Zimmerman killed Martin, he was justified in doing so if he believed he was in danger of being killed himself or of suffering great bodily harm. It seems the Sanford Police certainly believed Zimmerman's claims. But there is an exception.

If Zimmerman was the initial aggressor, he cannot avail himself of the protection of the "stand your ground" law. Former Florida State Rep. Dennis Baxley, the co-sponsor of the law, told me by phone that the law doesn't apply to Zimmerman if he pursued Martin and was the initial aggressor. And he is right.

Florida's statute makes it clear that the justification is not available to a person who initially provokes the use of force against himself, unless such force is so great that the person reasonably believes that he is in imminent danger of death or great bodily harm and that he has exhausted every reasonable means to escape.

And that is what this case ultimately boils down to -- who started the fight. And the answer to that question is far from clear.

The special prosecutor in the Trayvon Martin shooting has set a deadline: By Friday night, she will make an announcement about the case.

There is widespread speculation that Angela Corey, state attorney in Jacksonville, will announce her decision in the case.

She'll either say she's filing criminal charges against George Zimmerman, the Neighborhood Watch volunteer who killed the unarmed black 17-year-old, or that her investigation is done and there's not enough evidence to arrest him.

Her office sent reporters a news release Tuesday at 8 p.m., saying she would make her announcement in the next 72 hours.

It's not clear whether she'll make it in Sanford, where Trayvon was killed Feb. 26, or in Jacksonville, the site of her office. She's the elected state attorney for Duval, Clay and Nassau counties.

Reporters and news crews appear to be gambling that she'll have Zimmerman arrested and jailed in Sanford.

Florida special prosecutor Angela Corey plans to announce as early as Wednesday afternoon that she is charging neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman in the shooting of Trayvon Martin, according to a law enforcement official close to the investigation.

It was not immediately clear what charge Zimmerman will face.

Martin, 17 and unarmed, was shot and killed Feb. 26 by Zimmerman, who said he was acting in self-defense. Police in Sanford, Fla., where the shooting took place, did not charge Zimmerman, citing the state’s “stand your ground” law.

Corey told reporters Tuesday night that she would hold a news conference about the case within 72 hours. A news release from her office said the event will be held in Sanford or Jacksonville, Fla.

Benjamin Crump, who is representing the Martin family, said earlier this week that Corey’s office had asked where Trayvon’s parents would be each day this week. They arrived Wednesday in Washington for a civil rights conference organized by the Rev. Al Sharpton, where they are scheduled to speak.

The announcement of a charge against Zimmerman would come a day after Zimmerman’s lawyers withdrew from the case, citing their inability to contact Zimmerman.  ::snipping2::

A decision on whether to charge Florida neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman with the shooting death of unarmed teen Trayvon Martin has been made, sources told ABC News.
 
The decision by Florida special prosecutor Angela Corey is expected to be announced at a 6 p.m. news conference in Jacksonville, Fla.

Tampa, Florida - It was an emotional interview for Michelle Williams.
 
As a community activist and chief of staff for the New Black Panther Party, Michelle is used to addressing many issues.  But when it comes to her passion in the Trayvon Martin case, she get especially upset and tearful.
 
Through tears, she said, "If my words, my words that I had to say out of anger will make the American people address this issue, let it be my time, Melanie. Let it be my time to address this issue with America, that we say enough is enough. We can't have any more killings."
 
Michelle is now offering an apology for her controversial comments.
 
She spoke openly, "My words were out of anger. I did not incite, I did not promote, nor did I encourage anyone to go and pick up a gun."
 
In an online interview this week, Michelle Williams spoke openly of her frustration with what she calls the massive racial problem in this country, especially over the Trayvon Martin case. She admits that her sadness over the case was overwhelming and that she spoke harshly during the online segment.
 
Her words were not taken lightly and were replayed Tuesday morning by nationally syndicated radio talk show host Bubba the Love Sponge.
 
Michelle said during the interview, "Let me tell you, the things that's about to happen, to these honkeys, these crackers, these pigs, these pink people, these ---- people. It has been long overdue. My prize right now this evening ... is gonna be the bounty, the arrest, dead or alive, for George Zimmerman. You feel me   ::snipping2::

Of course he will be charged with something. If she does not, there will be mayhem ! I do think that a jury is the one to decide his guilt or innocence after seeing all the evidence in this case.

Today, Attorney General Eric Holder spoke at the National Action Network Convention in New York. Its tagline: No Justice, No Peace. He was introduced by Al Sharpton, the rabblerousing, race-baiting MSNBC host who has inserted himself into the Trayvon Martin shooting case and threatened the city of Sanford, Florida with civil disobedience.

Now I know that many of you are greatly, and rightly, concerned about the recent shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, a young man whose future has been lost to the ages. As most of you know, three weeks ago the Department of Justice launched an investigation into this incident which remains open at this time and prevents me from talking in detail about his matter. But I can tell you that in recent weeks Justice Department officials … have traveled to Sanford, Florida to meet with the Martin family, the community, and local authorities.

The FBI is assisting local law enforcement officials … the Justice Department’s peacemakers are continuing to meet with civil rights leaders, law enforcement officers, and area residents to address and to help alleviate community tensions …

Carney: No More From Obama on Trayvon Martin

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney today said President Obama will make no further comments on the Trayvon Martin case.

“I certainly don’t think you’ll hear from him,” Carney said, noting that there is an “ongoing investigation” in the case.

Carney suggested the White House is now imposing a wall of silence on the matter. “He and I and others will refrain from commenting on it,” he said.

Carney did not say that Obama had erred in addressing the case last month when the president suggested sympathy for Martin and remarked that if he had a son, he would look like him. The case was also under investigation then.

Martin, who is black, was shot and killed by George Zimmerman, who is half white and half Hispanic, during an altercation February 26 in Sanford, Florida. Zimmerman has said he was acting in self defense, but many African Americans and black leaders charge he was the victim of a racially motivated attack

The charges that Zimmerman could face include second-degree murder and manslaughter.

According to MSNBC, first-degree murder is not an option because Corey did not take the case to a grand jury.

Murder in the second degree, under Florida law, is defined as “the unlawful killing of a human being, when perpetrated by any act imminently dangerous to another and evincing a depraved mind regardless of human life, although without any premeditated design to effect the death of any particular individual.”

To charge Zimmerman with murder in the second degree, the state would need to prove that he committed the act regardless of human life.

Zimmerman’s attorneys, however, could argue the shooting was “lawful” because it was done in self-defense.

A conviction of murder in the second degree is punishable by life in prison under Florida law.

The other possible charge, manslaughter, is defined as a killing done without premeditation, and is often handed down when the killer is judged to have been caught in the “heat of the moment.”

Under Florida law, manslaughter is described as “the killing of a human being by the act, procurement, or culpable negligence of another, without lawful justification... and in cases in which such killing shall not be excusable homicide or murder.”

An argument of negligence in this case could be made if prosecutors proved Zimmerman followed Martin, even after a police dispatcher told him not to.

A conviction of manslaughter is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

I think that the charges by the special prosecutor will be similar to those in the police report.  We'll see... :smt102
