Kinkade died at his home in Los Gatos of what appeared to be natural causes, David Satterfield said. His wife Nanette discussed his family's shock and sadness in a statement. "Thom provided a wonderful life for his family," she said. Kinkade was known for his use of light in his scenic paintings. According to his website, he attended UC Berkeley and worked as an artist in the film industry before shifting his focus fully to painting. By Lori Preuitt May 8, 2012 The Santa Clara County Coroner released details of famed-artist Thomas Kinkade's autopsy and found that he died of "acute ethanol and Diazepam intoxication." In layman's terms, he died of an overdose of alcohol and valium. "Mr. Kinkade died of respiratory depression as a result of a high concentration of ethanol combined with benzodiazepine use," the report stated.
