JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) -- New details in a case involving the possible disappearance of a mother and her three children now indicates the four have been abducted, prompting the Mississippi Highway Patrol to issue an Amber alert.

A news release from MHP states information has developed during the course of the investigation that the children may be in extreme danger.

Authorities have begun to issue kidnapping warrants for Adam Mayes, who is considered armed and extremely dangerous.

Mayes was last seen in Guntown, but has a Highway 9 address in Union County.

The mother has been identified as Jo Ann Bain, a white female with brown hair and brown eyes. She's 5' 3" tall and weighs 130 lbs. Her three children are Adrienne, Alexandria and Kyliyah Bain. Adrienne has brown hair and brown eyes, stands 5' 4" tall and weighs 129 lbs. Alexandria has brown hair and hazel eyes, stands 5 feet tall and weighs 105 lbs. Kyliyah has blonde hair and brown eyes, stands 4 feet tall and weighs 57 lbs. All four are from Hardeman County, Tenn., according to authorities.

The four were last seen Friday, May 4.

Investigators said the three may be with their mother and Mayes. Mayes has brown hair and blue eyes, stands 6' 3" tall and weighs 175 lbs. Law enforcement says Mayes has already altered his appearance by modifying his hair. They say he may also have cut the hair of the children and dyed it an unknown color.

MHP says the five may be headed to Arizona or other parts of Mississippi. According to law enforcement, Mayes has connections in Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida.

Tennessee Mom, 3 Daughters Missing

Authorities say three girls and their mother may be in extreme danger after they were abducted in Tennessee.

They were last seen in Mississippi. The Mississippi Highway Patrol issued an Amber Alert on Saturday morning, and Tennessee authorities also issued an alert. The girls are believed to be with their mother, 31-year-old Jo Ann Bain, and 35-year-old Adam Mayes.

The girls are 8-year-old Kyliyah Bain, 12-year-old Alexandria and 14-year-old Adrienne. Warrants are being issued for Mayes' arrest on kidnapping charges.

Mississippi Department of Public Safety spokesman Warren Strain said the FBI is in charge of the case because it involves multiple states. FBI officials didn't immediately respond to a message.

From memory up to this point...

Mayes was reported as being a friend of the family (confirmed by Gary Bain), he was interviewed by police in relation to the mother and daughters being missing last Sunday.  A warrant was issued for his arrest last Tuesday because he lied to police in the interview.

Jo Ann Bain and her daughters were last seen leaving their home on Friday morning the 27th of April.  The Dodge Durango that they were traveling in was found about three miles from their home on Sunday.  There was a report that it had been there since Friday, but wasn't connected to the missing Bain family members until Sunday. 

Police said there were no signs of foul play, but that it couldn't be ruled out.

Now new information has prompted the Amber Alert today.

UPDATE - According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the girls are from Whiteville, Tennessee.  They were last seen April 27.  Adam Mayes, the suspect, was last seen in Guntown, Mississippi on May 1.

Adrienne is 14-years-old and has a pierced belly button.

Alexandria is 12-years-old.

Kyliyah is 8-years-old.

Jo Ann is 31-years-old.

The family was moving back to Tucson in a few days, Jo Ann had posted on her facebook about packing in the day or two before their disappearance.

Jo Ann is married to Gary Bain.  IIRC they have been married about 11 years.  Kyliyah is their child, Adrienna and Alexandria are Jo Ann's daughters from a previous marriage to Mark Johnson.

Early in the case I think there was a question as to whether Jo Ann may have left with the girls willingly, that's why I wasn't sure whether to start a thread for them or not...

In the press conference that was held last week on Wednesday iirc, that seemed to still be a possibility because they didn't have any information otherwise. 

The police asked for Jo Ann to contact them and after contact could be made to indicate they were alright, this would all be over.

I've had a bad feeling about this since I first read about it.   ::MonkeyNoNo::

But there was so little information and what had been released made me wonder if maybe the mom had decided to run off with that guy!  Her husband is quite a bit older but from what I could gather from Jo Ann's facebook page, she seemed happy with him.  She was going to school also, so I've wondered if maybe some things were going on with this "family friend" and one or more of her daughters that she didn't know about?  He gives me the creeps.  And his facebook pictures with the girls is creepy too imo.

Strange case.  This suspect seems a bit too attached to be an ex family member/friend.

It does kinda sound like she did run off with him, thus the reason why the TBI has the three daughters listed as victims and the the two adults as subjects. Although I can see where the POI could have suddenly abducted them because he was losing them.

It is just a wee bit strange that the days leading up to the family going back to AZ that they would suddenly go missing? One of those cases where if I can't have you, nobody will. Although I would say that the so-called family friend might have had more intensions than just being friends.

Thanks Klaas, I'd missed that and have been wondering HOW they were connected since it seems that he has been involved with them for quite a while.

Adam Mayes has a warrant on file for false report with full extradition.  What does that mean exactly?

From the first, my thought was that someone is wrong with the relationship between husband and wife. 

I haven't been able to find a real definition of it but from my understanding of what I've been reading, the actual charge that he has a warrant for (false report, misdemeanor?) may not usually include the request for him to be extradited if he is found out of the state, but in this case they are seeking full extradition; which if I understand correctly means that they want him extradited if he is apprehended out of state.

Hope that makes sense.

The FBI says two bodies have been found in Mississippi during the search for a missing Tennessee woman and her three children, but the identities are not known. 

FBI spokesman Joel Siskovic said the bodies were found late Friday night or early Saturday morning in Guntown, Miss., in a residence associated with the man charged with abducting Jo Ann Bain and her children.

(WMC-TV) – FBI officials say they have found two bodies during the search for three West Tennessee girls who have been missing since last month.

Investigators found the bodies while executing a search warrant in Guntown, MS, Friday. The FBI hasn't released the victims' causes of death or their identities.

Adrienne, Alexandria and Kyliyah were last seen with their mother JoAnne Bain on April 27 in Hardeman County, TN.

Investigators say family friend Adam Mayes is responsible for the Bains' disappearance. Mayes is believed to be armed and is wanted for kidnapping and filing a false police report.

"Contact with Mayes was initiated early in the investigation, but he later fled when law enforcement authorities subsequently attempted to contact him," said an FBI spokesman in a written statement.

Mayes, who was last seen in Guntown, MS, on Tuesday, has been added to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's Most Wanted List.

Mayes has brown hair, blue eyes and weighs about 175 pounds. However, investigators believe he has altered his appearance by cutting his hair and may have also cut the hair of the children and dyed it an unknown color.

(CNN) -- Two bodies have been found by investigators probing the disappearance of a Tennessee mother and her three daughters, with authorities pleading Saturday for help in finding their suspected abductor -- a man they described as likely "armed and dangerous."

The FBI, in a press release Saturday, did not say whose bodies were discovered. But the federal agency did identify the man who they believe "is responsible for their disappearance" as Adam Mayes, saying an arrest warrant has been issued for him.

I guess we know now why an AMBER ALERT was issued with new information that came to light. However, this case that appeared to be just a woman possibly leaving with another man and her children is now escalating into something much, much worse.

Adduction and kidnapping is one thing, now we have murder as well? It will be interesting to see who the two dead individuals will be identified as.

Well this explains the false report warrant.  But, where was this family while he was sitting in the LE office answering questions?

My bet is at least 2 were already dead.  If the two youngest are still alive, they are likely locked up or too scared do do anything.

Agreed. My first thought was who abducts a mother and 3 children? That is way too many people to have to account for all of the time. Usually its a kidnapping of a child or a mom, not both. It seemed like she might have been apart of the abduction and then something went terribly wrong.

This makes it sound like the two bodies that were found could be people other than the 4 he has kidnapped

JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) — Two bodies discovered at Mississippi residences Friday have not yet been tied to a kidnapping investigation in Tennessee because those bodies have not yet been identified.

Authorities say a Hardeman County, Tenn., mother and her three children were reported missing on April 27.  The Mississippi Highway Patrol issued an Amber Alert Saturday.

A news release from the MHP states information has developed during the course of the investigation that the children may be in extreme danger.

Authorities have begun to issue kidnapping warrants for Adam Mayes, who is considered armed and extremely dangerous.

Law enforcement says Mayes was last seen Tuesday in Guntown.  However, he has a Highway 9 address in Union County.

Hardeman County neighbors fear for missing family

HARDEMAN COUNTY, TN -
(WMC-TV) Friends of Jodi Bain have been frantically trying to find her and three daughters.

"Why wasn't something done before now?  Why did they put an amber alert on these babies last night?  This could have been prevented," said Stephanie Crowe, a friend of the family.

Crowe says her step-daughter is classmates with missing 14-year-old daughter Adrienne Bain.

Arrest warrants have been issued for Adam Mayes for the kidnapping of Jodi Bain and her three children, Adrienne, 12-year-old Alexandria, and 8-year-old Kyliyah.

Investigators say Mayes may have changed his and the missing victims appearances.  Something Crowe says her step-daughter and Adrienne had discussed.

"She sat up and said oh my God!  Adrienne told me Thursday that she was getting her hair dyed this weekend.  She said like a red, auburn color maybe," stated Crowe

Traca Bain is listed on Gary Bain's facebook page as his sister.  Isn't the suspect Gary's ex brother-in-law?  Would this woman be the suspect's ex wife?

Gary could have more than one sister.  Gary could have been married before and it could be his ex wife's brother.

So, this is sounding like the two bodies may not be the mom or the kids.  So, who would they be?  The suspect's family?

Is it possible that he murdered his parents when they found out that he had abducted the three girls? This is why their identities have not been given as they are trying to locate a next of kin? If it had been the children or the mom, the authorities would have contacted the bio dad of the two girls or her most recent husband, father of one of the missing girls?

Not that I always gibe this too much creedance because their reporting and research skills are sometimes questionable at best, but ...

This morning on Fox & Friends they keep reporting the two dead, unidentified bodies ... they keep saying that only some of the children may still be with suspect Mayes.

I've been watching the FB pages of some of Jo Ann's close friends, one that I think she was closest to has not posted anything since Friday night.  From what she had been posting she was in close contact with Gary Bain.

From that information also, I think Traca Bain (mentioned earlier) is Gary's daughter, step-daughter of Jo Ann Bain.

Also David is on the run with his daughter that he had with the lady he killed. The other two girls were the lady's by another guy. The FBI wants to find 35-year-old Adam Mayes more than ever, after two bodies were found in a home where he had been staying near Guntown, MS.

Investigators became suspicious of Mayes when they lost contact with him on Tuesday.

“We executed some federal search warrants at some residences he’s been known to stay at,” said FBI spokesperson, Joel Siskovic. “At that time, during the search, we did find two bodies at that location.”

The FBI is not saying whether or not those bodies belong to the missing Hardeman County family, only that they’ve sent them to the medical examiner’s office to be identified.

“It was based on finding those two bodies that initiated the Amber Alert with concern of extreme danger to the children,” said Siskovic.

It is worth noting that the mother, Jo Ann Bain, has been removed from the Amber Alert.

All the FBI would tell News Channel 3 is the house is located near Guntown, MS. However the house is believed to be on Highway 9 near Alpine, MS. U.S. Marshals were there investigating Saturday afternoon.

The report also stated that "the bodies may have been there for some time."

If they were found on Friday, that would have been a week after Jo Ann and her girls were abducted.

This guy looks like a nutter to me from his photos.mi wish that parents were a bit choosier about who they bring around their kids..

Pure speculation on my part but I'm guessing that this sick, perv creep had a thing for one of the children and kept his own alive?  Who knows why he did this but he deserves the harshest sentence he can get.  What is going on?  Soooooo much hatred and crime!  It makes me so sad!   I'm so scared for my teenager to grow up and be on his own.  We have taught him well and he is a wonderful young man but that can't protect him from some idiot out to do harm.  Can you imagine how scared and fearful the children still in this man's possession must be?

None of the kids are his.  It did appear in photos he was close to the younger girls.

What tipped cops off to looking at him in the first place?  There had to be something odd that pointed in his direction.  It is really a shame that LE wasn't able to track him after he left the Sunday questioning.  That may have led them straight back to the kids.

Linda Kirkland a cook at the Country Cafe in Whiteville, Tenn., said that Jo Ann Bain and her three daughters had been back in the Whiteville area to take care of some business after a death in the family. Asthma sufferers have long flocked to Arizona believing the dry, warm climate might ease the condition.

Bain had frequented the restaurant and never indicated anything was wrong.

Oh, how I agree with you on that!  I do involve him in the news and ScaredMonkeys AND discuss with him in detail what could have been prevented or not, things to be wide-eyed and well aware of!  There are some things I word a little different but because this site is kept clean and fair to all, it is a wonderful starting point for discussions on many, many subjects to keep a child safe and aware.  Thank you ALL very much and Bless each one of you!  Other than the normal things you would teach your child I started to talk to him in depth about several crimes especially Caylee.  We live in FL and I could see that he was paying more attention than normal to her case and it made him very sad.  I told him all about what LE was saying and doing and then I read him several of the posts from here to let him know that it is more than okay to have an opinion and it was fine to feel sad the way we did.  We watch the Today Show and local news every morning before school and discuss current events and I just love hearing his feelings and opinions on different subjects.  My little baby is a well mannered child growing into a fine young man.  You can just say that I am Blessed in every way, every day!  Okay, I will stop gushing because I'm getting sad thinking about all the children we have posted here that I wish I could have held in my arms and taken out of the evil situations they had to live through.  The only saving Grace is that they are in Heaven now and free from the pain and torture they endured here on Earth!  My prayers to each and every child/Mother/Father/family going through such a mess and prayers to each of my Monkey Friends!!!!!

TM - that's what's odd about her, she doesn't appear to live or be anywhere in close proximity to Alpine.  Unless you consider 10 miles a way close.

She did say she lives a mile from where the bodies were found, so I'd probably be scared too.

It surprised me that he is still in that area.

I just hope they catch him soon, and whoever is still with him is safe.

I'll put it this way, when I lived in Mississippi we lived about 5 miles from the nearest town.  We went to school there.  But our address (Rural Route) was another town that was about 10 miles away...the other direction.  When something happened near us it was usually stated that so and so happened in the (another name from either town) community!  Which at that time wasn't even on the map...but was in the name of our church.

Union County Sheriff Jimmy Edwards told FOX News Channel Sunday that the two bodies have not yet been positively identified, but one was believed to be 31-year-old Jo Ann Bain.

They were discovered Friday at a Union County residence connected to Adam Christopher Mayes, the man suspected of abducting Bain and her daughters Adrienne, 14, Alexandria, 12, and Kyliyah, eight.

Autopsies were performed Sunday but the results have not yet been released, Edwards added.

The FBI and US Marshals joined Union County Sheriff's deputies in their search for Mayes Sunday in a 10-square-mile section of northeastern Union County. Edwards said police had no indications that he had left the area.

Father of the two older girls has a facebook and he's very upset BUT he gave up his rights to the girls by letting the Jo Ann's current husband adopt the girls.  I have no idea why BAIN isn't all over the news.  I have a feeling the FBI and LE have told him not to.

As for small town life...Hubby and I lived for years 2 miles from the county border but had an address for the neighboring county.  We paid taxes and voted in one county and collected our mail and paid our phone bill another.  We were 10 miles from one town and 20 from the other.  "Going to town" really meant something.  lol

What reason would investigators be searching the backyard and garage of the family home.

I've never seen anything official on what vehicle he was in.

I did read a Facebook comment, from someone that I thought could know...that they didn't know what he was driving because all of his known vehicles had been accounted for.

I can't find the comment now.

I've wondered if he didn't buy a vehicle or trade for one just for this; one that wouldn't be registered to him just yet...and wouldn't be recognized as his?

Is it just me or is it strange to let a man take your children for overnighters?  In several criminal cases I've read about women trust their children to be taken care of and babysat by men who are not blood related and the children are eventually harmed.  Even blood relatives I would be super cautious of.  It's just not generally like a man to want to watch children that don't belong to him unless they his grandbabies.  This guy Mayes had the kids enough that he had his neighbors convinced they belonged to him.

The Sheriff says Mayes disappeared sometime after Sunday after investigators talked with him.

News Channel 3 dug up pictures from a Facebook profile that belongs to Mayes. They show he had a close relationship with the Bain’s, apparently even visiting them in Arizona.

“It’s sad because you just never know what’s in someone’s heart and what they’re capable of doing because you just don’t know because any situation can turn somebody’s personality like that,” Watkins said as she snapped.
With Mayes on the run and wanted by the TBI, Watkins is praying he will have a change of heart and turn himself in.

“Just let us know where the kids are, let us know where that mom is,” said Watkins. “It’s that important that we need to know because these are somebody’s daughters.”
The family was supposed to be moving to Tucson, Arizona before the disappearance. Law enforcement agencies there were unaware of the missing person reports when News Channel 3 called them today. That could tell us the FBI is focusing their search efforts around here.

Why haven't we heard any thing from Jo Anns family? Or any family member from either side.  Something "bring them back" nothing. Nothing from Mayes family. It's just to weird. Nothing from any of the LE or FBI. I know we don't need to know everything. No hint on any vehicle we might have been driving.

I'm wondering that too.  Nothing from her parents, siblings, cousins???

 Does Mayes have someone he was close to at one time?  Someone that he might listen to?

UNION COUNTY, TN -

(WMC-TV)  Union County, Desoto County, the FBI, and US Marshals have set up a command post in Alpine, MS for what is now being called a manhunt for 35-year-old Adam Mayes.

"We feel like now that we may have enough evidence to go on the man hunt," said Union County Sheriff Jimmy Edwards.

Sheriff Edwards says the search is now on in Northeast Mississippi for Adam Mayes, the man investigators believe is responsible for the disappearance of Jo Ann Bain and her three daughters, 14-year-old Adrienne, 12-year-old Alexandria, and 8-year-old Kyliyah Bain.

"We believe he is extremely dangerous," stated Edwards.

Mayes was considered a friend of the family.

Nearly 90 miles from where the family was last seen at their home in Hardeman County, TN, a break in the case came when the FBI announced developments in Alpine, MS on Saturday.

"We started Friday morning conducting search warrants when we found out that this person was in our county from Hardeman, TN.  He lived here, his family lived here, and of course we ended up recovering two bodies," said Edwards.

The Union County Sheriff confirmed that the bodies were found behind the home of Adam Mayes' parents in Guntown, MS.  He would not release further details, but did say the bodies were found in a shallow grave.

Monday, Gary Bain, Joann’s husband told us he wanted to wait to talk until Hardeman County deputies said it was ok.
But he did post a message on Joann’s Facebook page saying he loved her and the girls and “Please call or just come home. There is nothing we can’t work through together. We always have and I hope we always will.”

As the Shelby County Medical Examiner worked to identify two bodies discovered in Mississippi over the weekend, authorities planned to continue their manhunt today for a suspect in the kidnapping of a West Tennessee mother and her three daughters.

Law enforcement officials are searching for Adam Mayes, 35, the key suspect in the disappearance of Jo Ann Bain and her three daughters, Adrienne, 14; Alexandria, 12, and Kayliyah, 8, all of Hardeman County.

Aided by K-9 and SWAT teams from DeSoto County, authorities are sweeping the Guntown area of Union County, about 15 miles north of Tupelo and some 105 miles southeast of Memphis.

"We're not sure he's still in the area. We're not sure he's left," Union County Sheriff Jimmy Edwards said late Sunday afternoon. "But before we rule out his presence here, we want to make sure we've exhausted all means."

Searchers found the two decomposing bodies buried in a shallow grave behind the rented double-wide trailer of Mayes' parents in the Alpine community, about eight miles northwest of Guntown.

FBI spokesman Joel Siskovic in Memphis said the bodies had not been positively identified late Sunday. Initially, an Amber Alert was issued for all four of those missing; the mother's name was later removed from the alert without explanation.

"The bodies are still with the medical examiner. There hasn't been an identification," Siskovic said Sunday. "Mayes is still on the run, We're still actively searching for the Bain family."

I have a feeling it is going to get worse.

Maybe the 2 bodies are those of his parents? Maybe there is a 3rd body which will be his wife? Maybe he killed them before he took this family? Maybe this mom left willingly with this creep? Not knowing that he had already murdered these people? We don't know at this point. Anything could be possible. I just hope that the children are still alive...
Or maybe he murdered the mom and his parents and he and his wife ran off with the kids? So that they could have the children as their own?

Exactly Cookie. I haven't heard any thing about the parents or wife but the one article that the landlord gave saying they had lived there 2 years.  Find it strange that Jo Ann was taken off the amber Alert. That's what I keep coming back too why haven't any of the family been on TV asking and begging him to give himself up and bring them all back unharmed.

I googled Earth it and when the view was taken in 2010 there was no home there. I don't know when the street view was done but the over head was done in 2010. Just trees and shrubs from what the street view showed. Of course Google some times misses the exact address. But there isn't much there that's for sure

Jo Ann Bain and her daughters were last seen in their home early April 27, according to Kristin Helm, a spokeswoman for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Mayes and Gary Bain had long been acquainted, having once been married to sisters. Helm said he was viewed as an uncle.

“Mayes is a family friend who was staying there that night to help the family pack and drive a U-Haul to Arizona the next day with Gary because the family was planning on moving there within the month,” Helm said. “Gary was asleep at the home that night and woke to find them gone in the morning and the car gone. Mayes was gone too.”

Gary Bain woke up after the kids typically went to school so he didn’t expect to see them, Helm said. But then he tried calling his wife on her cell phone during the day and couldn’t reach her.

When the girls didn’t get off the school bus, he reported them missing to the sheriff’s office that evening.

Helm said Gary Bain’s adult daughter and his granddaughter had also spent the night at the family’s home, but that the grown daughter didn’t see Jo Ann or the girls the next morning. And the car was missing.

On April 30, the vehicle was found abandoned in Hardeman County, which is about 70 miles east of Memphis. Jo Ann Bain and her daughters had left most of their personal belongings at the house, Helm said.

On Friday, the TBI reported that the girls were with Mayes in Mississippi, but there was no evidence that a crime had been committed.

He was in the house that night.  Wow, how creepy!  He could have been planning something for weeks. 

Could Mayes be a survivalist?  If he's good at living in the woods, he could have them in a tent or cabin somewhere far from a town.  That may explain why they've not been spotted.

I wonder this too and am also puzzled at how 5 people could have left the morning he kidnapped them without the rest of the family hearing them.  I wonder if AM told them that they could make a trip to Az before Gary and his other daughter got up.  Somehow he got a woman away from her husband and 3 girls out of the house and on the road with him without waking up the others.  Very puzzling and as you said creepy!

GUNTOWN, Miss. (AP) — Authorities searching for a Tennessee mother and her three daughters are stopping motorists in northern Mississippi and checking inside the trunks of their vehicles.

Mississippi state troopers near Guntown said Monday they are conducting a manhunt.

Police have launched a Mississippi dragnet for Adam Mayes and that when they find him they also find two members of a Tennessee family that disappeared 10 days ago.

The members of the family have already been found slain.

A "receipt of retrieval" on the trailer that was searched Friday is from the U.S. Department of Justice FBI and lists two items: "One tarp blue/silver with rope" and "one small blue tarp."

A neighbor FOX 13 spoke with who did not want to go on camera at this time says he knows the man who rents the trailer that was searched on Friday and says it makes him sick hearing about what events occurred there.

Melvin Herron, who lives next door to the Bain family, said Mayes apparently "thought the world of those little girls." Herron, 42, recalled seeing the girls playing outside, running and going down water slides.

Gerald Long, 60, of Jackson, Tenn., said he last saw Mayes about two years ago. He said Mayes lived across the street from him for about a year with his wife, Teresa. He described Mayes as a "sociable person."

He was helpful, Long said. "He didn't seem violent or anything."

As for his relationship with his wife, Teresa, Long said "they were always up and down about things." Long would not elaborate.

The neighbor said he thought Mayes and his wife are no longer together.

The mother's aunt said she was waiting Monday for authorities to tell her that her niece and the girls are safe.

"I pray for Jo Ann and the girls to be OK and for them to come home," said Beverly Goodman, who works at Whiteville City Hall.

She said that her niece was not the type of woman to run off with someone.

Beverly Goodman (Jo Ann's aunt) says that Gary Bain was married to Adam Mayes' sister at one time, that's how they became close.  After Gary and Adam's sister divorced, they remained friends.  They were both mechanics and worked on cars in a shop together. 

Beverly said that she doesn't believe that Jo Ann left with Adam Mayes willingly.  She said Jo Ann is a very good mother.  Adrienne had been having problems with her asthma and needed her inhaler two or three times a day...no medicines...no clothes...no cell phones were taken with them.  The only thing they can tell that is missing is Jo Ann's purse.

Beverly said the only thing that makes sense is that Adam Mayes was obsessed with Jo Ann or one of the girls and couldn't accept the fact that they were leaving for Arizona.

She said he always had a gun, and she thinks maybe he held the gun to one of the girls to get Jo Ann and the others to go with him without waking anyone else.

Beverly said if the youngest was Adam Mayes daughter, she had no knowledge of that.

Action News 5's Janice Broach spoke with Adam Mayes sister in law, Bobbi Booth.

Booth said Mayes' wife, Theresa, is being held in the Hardeman county jail.

We cannot confirm Theresa Mayes is in the jail.

Booth said she knew at some point last week Mayes was in his backyard in Alpine digging a hole.

The sister-in-law also said Mayes dated Jo Ann Bain before she married her current husband, Gary.

A reward of $50,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest of Adam Mayes.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the bodies found near the home but an FBI spokesman told WMC-TV they hope to do that soon.

Adam Mayes Was Babysitter of Missing Bain Girls

A close family friend of the mother and her three daughters says they moved back to Whiteville from Arizona last year when Jo Ann`s father died.

The Bains were just days away from moving back to Arizona where Jo Ann was going to finish her last few classes and become a teacher.

Investigators have not yet said whether the bodies discovered were those of Bain or her daughters, but the discovery led them to issue an Amber Alert in search for the family. Siskovic said officials are waiting to comment further on the case until they receive identification information from the state's Medical Examiner's office, where the bodies were sent.

I tried to look up that address on the Tennessee Property Records, I think it is showing that address on the other side of the road from the junkyard, and it is not currently listed in a Mayes name.  I can't find a Mayes that matches up with the parents names in that county.  But it's possible they don't actually own the land, and just run the junkyard?

If Adam Mayes has anything to do with the junkyard, that would give him many options for cars.  He could have been parking cars at different locations if he'd been planning this for a while.

I hope they will release the names.  Too much speculation, they need to just go ahead and tell us who they are.  People are arguing about others talking about it just about everywhere I've read today!  Surely they've had ample time to notify next of kin.  But I do keep wondering if maybe they're afraid of the survivors that may still be with him seeing the reports and causing more problems for them?  That is if the talk about who they probably are is correct.

Since the Mayes family moved in, Patterson said, they have maintained the property and often stopped by for neighborly visits. She said she can see their house from her front door.

"They were just friendly – friendly to everybody. Never met a stranger, that type," said Patterson, who spoke to the Daily Journal by phone Monday.

Adam Mayes worked odd jobs, she said, and often left for weeks at a time to go back to Tennessee. Facebook pages for the suspect and the victims all link to each other, as well as to that of Teresa Mayes, and show various photos of them all together.

Patterson was shocked to learn two bodies were discovered Friday in the backyard of Mayes' parents. She said it doesn't make sense.

"Oh, it scared the fire out of me," Patterson said. "It worried me to death. The whole neighborhood is shook up about it."

Local, state and federal agencies now are searching for Adam Mayes in connection with the Bain family disappearance. In the meantime, the FBI has yet to release the identifies of the bodies found in the backyard.

The rest of the Mayes family has since moved into a motel, Patterson said.

Adam Mayes' sister-in-law, Bobbi Booth, lives outside Chattanooga.  She had shocking things to say about what her sister told her about the murders. Teresa Mayes, who is married to Adam, is behind bars in Hardeman County.
 
"My sister told me things, yes," Booth said.
 
Booth said Teresa told her Jo Ann and Adrienne Bain were murdered by Mayes.

"She knew he dug the grave. That was my understanding of the conversation with her because I was yelling at her. I'm like 'You what ?  You know.' What she said, 'I saw him digging a hole,'" Booth explained.
 
Adam and Teresa Mayes lived in the Alpine, MS, home with Adam's parents Mary and Johnny Mayes. Action News 5 learned that Mary Mayes is also in jail, according to Vinelink.  Hardeman County will not say what she is charged with.

I have been reading along on this case since the beginning and so appreciate all the hard work all do to keep it updated.

I am speechless that his wife knew he had killed the mom and the oldest daughter and did not report it. I have been wondering how he buried two bodies in the backyard and no one inside knew anything. I hope they slap some bug charges on his wife and mother. I also wonder where his Dad is.
I just don't see this ending well for the two little ones. My thoughts are that he has been molesting the two younger girls and if he can't have them no one else will. I pray to God that I am wrong. But he has nothing to lose by murdering them. The only way LE can save the girls is by catching him by surprise and taking him out. My heart just breaks thinking of what those precious babies have been through.

Bobbi Booth says that Adam has relatives in Florida and they believe he is coming for a visit. Booth says investigators are now in Florida now looking for Mayes.

Both women were booked Monday by the Hardeman County Sheriff's Department, which filed the charges. Their court dates are set for 9 a.m. on May 22 at the Hardeman County, Tenn., General Sessions Court.

Both women have been appointed attorneys during their arraignment this morning with General Sessions Judge Charles M. Cary: AttorneyTerry Dycus for Mary Mayes; attorney Shana Johnson for Teresa Mayes.

Fulghum didn't know where they were arrested.

Both women remain in jail as of noon Tuesday.

Best I can remember is that LEO pulled Adam in on Sunday the 29 and questioned him. His wife admits to driving the family to Union Co. Miss. Where did they find Adam on Sunday? Was he still in Tenn. or in Miss.?

If this report is true, do they now know how he is traveling, with what type of vehicle, etc.

Certainly wish they were more informative and forth-coming, it would certainly help the public to know.  I imagine they are keeping much under wraps, not wanting citizen's to try and stop him on their own.......

In an interview with The Associated Press on Tuesday, Teresa Mayes' sister, Bobbi Booth, said her sister told her last week that she knew about the killings, but Booth thinks Teresa Mayes may have been too scared to call the police.

"Teresa started to call, text and Facebook constantly on Thursday," Booth said.

Booth told Teresa Mayes to call the police and was assured that she had, but by Saturday Booth had become suspicious about that claim and called police herself.

"I told them exactly what she had told me: Who the bodies were, where they could be dug from," Booth said.

As it turned out, investigators had begun digging in the Mayes' backyard the previous day.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Kristin Helm said she was unaware of Booth calling about the killings but said she might have called a different law enforcement agency.

Adam Mayes' sister-in-law, Bobbi Booth, lives outside Chattanooga.  She had shocking things to say about what her sister told her about the murders. Teresa Mayes, who is married to Adam, is behind bars in Hardeman County.

Mayes Sighting Being Checked

Law officers across the Mid-South are chasing leads in the manhunt for Adam Mayes.

In the police affidavit, it is revealed that Teresa Mayes admits that she was involved in taking the Bain family from Hardeman County by driving them to Union County, Mississippi.

The affidavit also says that Mary Frances Mayes knew about the crimes.

So if LE believes they were killed in TN then she helped transport the dead bodies.

Southwest Florida billboards feature man wanted in Tennessee

FORT MYERS, Fla.- Adam Mayes, wanted for allegedly kidnapping a mother and her three daughters, has connections in Florida, and his face now appears on more than a dozen billboards across Southwest Florida.

Authorities found the mother and oldest daughter dead and believe the younger girls may still be with Mayes.

UNION COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) --Police remain tight-lipped about their search for Adam Mayes.  Roadblocks continued along Highway 9 as police searched cars for any clues leading to Adam Mayes or the two missing children.

With guns drawn, police searched Zion Hill Baptist Church on County Road 183 in the Alpine community looking for Mayes.

Church officials said authorities received a tip that Mayes could be hiding in the church because it's located off the beaten path and remains vacant throughout the week.

After a brief search, authorities found no trace of Mayes.

Anderson Cooper says the story is coming up...commercial break right now...we'll see.

The wife and mother of a kidnapping suspect have been arrested in connection with the disappearance of a family of four from Tennessee, according to a Hardeman County, Miss., court clerk.

The wife and mother of Adam Mayes were arrested for "especially aggravated kidnapping" in connection with the kidnapping of JoAnn Bain and her three daughters, who were reported missing from their Tennessee home on April 28

Details in the arrest warrants show that on April 27, Adam Mayes and his wife, Teresa Mayes, worked together to take Bain and her daughters from their home in Tennessee to Mississippi, where Adam and Teresa share a home with his parents.

Teresa and Adam's mother, Mary Mayes, both confessed to police during interviews that on April 27, they witnesses Mayes digging holes in his mother's backyard, where the two bodies were later found.

Police said they believe that Bain and her daughters were confined on the Mayes property. At some point in their confinement JoAnn and Adrienne died and were buried on the property.

Friday, the bodies of Joann Bain and her 14-year-old daughter were found buried in a shallow grave behind the Mississippi home Mayes lived in with his parents and ex-wife.
 
In the rented trailer, the FBI found property belonging to the 8 and 12-year-old missing Bain girls. They believe the 2 girls are with Mayes and are still alive.

I know...so sad.   

It breaks my heart to think of what he's going through, grieving for Jodie and Adrienne and waiting, worrying, hoping that Alexandria and Kyliyah will be found alive...not knowing what they're going through.  Wondering if they saw what happened to Jodie and Adrienne.

I wonder if the rented trailer is the U-haul that Jo Ann rented?  Not sure if she had actually rented it already since Adam was there to help move.  If so, maybe Jo Ann and the oldest child died of exhaust inside of the trailer...from Tennessee to Mississippi.

You'd think if it was the Baines rented trailer that Gary would of questioned it being missing right away?  Unless it was already hitched to the SUV I guess? 

Tonight Bobbi Booth stated on Anderson Cooper that her sister Teresa Mayes suspected that Adam and Jo-Ann may have had an affair and ... that Adam may have been the biological father of the youngest girl/s.

Could the Bains upcoming move to Arizona have been the catalyst that triggered the tragic chain of events?

Friend of Jo Ann Bain Has Message For Murder Suspect

(Bolivar, TN) Becky Bryant said she had hoped it wasn’t her friends buried in a Mississippi backyard.

But, she learned, along with the rest of us, that it was.

“I am just praying that he turns himself in,” said Bryant. “If you are watching this, please give the babies back.”

Becky’s plea goes out to a man she says she never knew or heard of before, even though Adam Mayes’ Facebook page shows he had a close relationship to the Bain children, “I just see that he looked like a close friend and they trusted him.”

Becky told us the last time she spoke to Jo Ann was the day before she disappeared, and that Jo Ann had booked a U-Haul to move to Tuscon, Arizona with her children and husband.

“She was happily married?” asked Reporter Sabrina Hall.

“Yes. Very,” she said.

Becky said she has no idea why anyone would want to harm her friend that she describes as a wonderful and independent woman, and a friend to everyone she met.

“She was unforgettable. She was a fighter,” she said.  “She was very playful. She was happy.”

And while Becky is coming to terms with the death of her friend and 14-year-old Adrienne, she prays Jo Ann’s two other children come home, “The family can’t deal with not having anything after Jo Ann and Adrienne have been ripped from our lives.”

That's true...that should have been noticed and likely would have been.  I wonder if Gary knew of this "rumor" of Adam being the father of the two younger ones...maybe he did notice things out of place and just thought maybe she left with him....In his note to her on FB he does say that they could work through anything...just please come back.  Something like that. 

Oh wow...I wonder if this is true.  This has been hinted to throughout...this may mean that the girls are alive too.  I sure hope so.  Maybe everyone thought that it be best to keep it a secret and allow him to remain an "uncle" figure.  Maybe he couldn't take the thought of his two girls moving so far away.  Just a thought.

After re reading my statement...I want to make it clear that I in no way am showing sympathy for him...he is evil.

Bobbi Booth ... Adam Mayes SIL ... made the same plea tonight on Anderson Cooper (CNN).

I wish that Gary Bains had reached out through the media from the getgo and pleaded with the longtime family friend for the safe return of his family.

However ... the FB comment posted by Gary seems to indicate that he believed that his wife may have left willingly with the girls.

During the investigation, police also found a trailer that Mayes had rented from Union County, Miss., which containedill  property of the two girls who are still missing and thought to be in Mayes' custody.

Now the only trailers I see on that property are the home/trailer AM and TM lived in with AM's parents that they "rented"  and the blue travel trailer in the backyard?  So I am still confused and don't know the exact answer yet... ::MonkeyNoNo::

I refuse to believe that Jo Ann had any feelings for the murdering pedophile until LE releases evidence to prove otherwise.  Right now all we have is a woman remarking on what her sister with (in her words) mental issues suspected.  Maybe that suspicion was her way of dealing with the inappropriate feelings her husband was having toward the youngest Bain child.

And it scares me to death to think of what went on in that rental trailer on the ride to MS.

I think it's more likely that Adam wanted it to be the case and told/acted as though the girls were his. 

I tend to agree.  I mean he obviously gets around numerous states so moving to Arizona should not have been a problem.  And it appears up until he took them that the Bains family was still fine with him on the surface.  TM made mention of her meds and staying on them on her FB page...take that how you want.

The search is on for Adam Mayes, accused of kidnapping a woman and her three daughters, two of whom police think may still be alive. In a 360 Exclusive, Anderson Cooper speaks with Mayes' sister-in-law who has inside information on the case.

ITA, from everything I've read about Jo Ann...I don't believe one word of that.

I could be wrong, but I'm not going to judge Jo Ann based on the word of someone that participated in crimes against her and her precious daughters. 

Mark Johnson says that Adrienne and Alexandria are his children.  The early reports stated that Gary Bain was the biological father of Kyliyah.

Jo Ann seemed to be a good mother, and from her Facebook all indications were that she and Gary were happily married.  She was going to school herself, and had been for a while from what I could tell from her posts on Facebook. 

I think the Bain's were kind and too trusting of Adam Mayes.

Until I read Gary Bain's FB comment your thought reflected mine.  Now I am on the fence.

Why didn't Gary reach out to Adam.  Why plead with Jo-Ann to retrurn with the girls  while assuring her that everything could be worked out.

I doubt that Adam considered Alexandria his, as she was a Johnson and he was related by marriage to the Bains. 

Somewhere it was stated that Adam dated Jo Ann before she married Mr. Bain and that was where he got the idea that Kyliyah was his.

Why did the Bain's let this guy into their lives ... into the lives of the girls?  The red flags were all there.

BOBBI BOOTH, SISTER OF TERESA MAYES: That's true. The investigators -- I actually called the investigators on Saturday because the statements she was making were concerning me.

Because my sister is -- I don't know how to put this, she's a slow learner and she's very dependent and I just felt like the comments she was making were scary. So I called the Hardman County Sheriff's Department and they stated that they were already aware of what she was saying. So it made no sense to me why it took so long to tell who the bodies were.

COOPER: What else did your sister tell you?

BOOTH: The main thing was just about the bodies and she did say that Adam had threatened to kill her and that she was scared to death.

COOPER: If Adam is guilty of these crimes, do have any why he do this?

BOOTH: No, I don't. I have known Adam for at least 25 years, and he has always been weird and unusual, and when I say weird, listens to a different type of music. He's just a different type of personal together, the whole family is, but I never dreamed he would do something like this.

COOPER: What type of music does he listen to? What raised your suspicion?

BOOTH: Like hard rock and just crazy music.

COOPER: Adam used to date Joanne Bain before he married your sister, Teresa? And you say that Teresa suspected the two were having an affair?

BOOTH: Yes, sir. She suspected that for quite a while. And there's actually question as to my sister has made numerous statements as to the paternity of those children.

COOPER: And so according to the arrest warrant, your sister admitted to helping drive Joanne and her three daughters from Tennessee to Mississippi where the two bodies were found. Any idea why your sister would do that?

BOOTH: Her attorney called me today and my sister had already made the statement that Adam had threatened to kill her as well.

COOPER: So you're saying that's why she was involved because she feared for her own life?

BOOTH: Right. Yes. He is a very aggressive. He has beat her several times, very aggressive person.

COOPER: I want to show our viewers a picture of your sister with the three daughters of Joanne Bain. Were the families close?

BOOTH: Yes.

COOPER: What else can you tell us about Adam that authorities believe he still has the other two daughters?

BOOTH: He likes to drink a lot. He does a lot of drugs. He's just a loner. He has never had a legitimate steady job. He's never lived out on his own. He's always been with his mom and dad. He didn't finish school. He's not trustworthy, but like I said, I just never pictured this.

COOPER: What's in your gut, what do you think went on here?

BOOTH: I think there's an affair of some type going on, I just don't know what.

COOPER: So you think he was having an affair with Joanne Bain?

COOPER: Yes. Is there any explanation why he would kill her or why he would kill her daughter?

BOOTH: No, I have no clue why anybody would kill a person.

COOPER: Do you think Adam is the father of the children? Did your sister think that Adam was the father of the children?

BOOTH: My sister has stated that she felt he was. And he had made those statements to her, yes.

COOPER: So if Adam or anyone that knows him or his whereabouts who is watch right now what would you want to say to him.

BOOTH: Adam, do the right thing and just let the children go. This is gone way too far. We need to figure out what's going on and it's not fair to the children.

COOPER: Well, Bobbi, I appreciate you coming forward and thank you for talking to us. BOOTH: Thank you. I hope I could help and again, Adam, if you're watching or anybody who knows where Adam is, get those kids to safety.

HARDEMAN COUNTY, TN - (WMC-TV) – In Hardeman County Tuesday night, it was a night to remember the mother and daughter taken too soon and two young girls still at the center of a desperate search.

As the families mourn the deaths of Joann Bain and Adrienne Bain, they also sit and wait hoping for news their missing daughters are okay. Tuesday night the town came together to pray and show support.

Hardeman County residents put green ribbons on their cars and wore them. They say green was a favorite color of the Bain children. They gathered to remember and bring hope.

"Just praying for them and hoping the other two girls come home safe," said friend Kristin Tettleton.

This vigil was held near the same ball field where the Bain children played.

Megan Ervin was on a team with 14-year-old Adrienne Bain, discovered dead with her mother buried in the backyard of the trailer in Union County where suspect Adam Mayes lived with his wife and parents.

"She was really quiet but she didn't have trouble making friends. If she got to know you she could talk with you," Ervin said.

People wrote notes and attached them to balloons that were launched in the air.

"To show her how to get to heaven," friend Sabrena Frame said.

Frame played baseball with 8-year-old Kaliyah Bain who is still missing along with her sister, 12-year-old Alexandria.

Gary Bain, the husband of Jo Ann Bain and the biological father of 8 year old Kaliyah is too upset to talk right now.  Mark Johnson the biological father of 14 year old Adrienne and Alexandria is also too upset to talk. Relatives say they are devastated.

I have been wondering the same thing. This whole thing has been odd from the beginning. With so many rumors going around and not very many facts. I keep wondering how he got them all out of the house without someone hearing something. He had to have planned this for a while. I hope they find the two young girls soon. Again why haven't we heard any thing from the dad or about the dad.
