(Family photo) Nearly three months after his son was killed in a pit bull attack, a Victoria County father has been indicted on charges in the death, including negligent homicide, the Victoria Advocate reports. Kylar Johnson, 4, reportedly wandered away the evening of March 25 while his father, 28-year-old Cole Johnson, was cleaning a car. After an overnight search that involved more than 100 people, the child’s body was discovered in a neighbor’s yard — less than a half-mile away. An autopsy showed Kylar was mauled to death by a dog. In addition to negligent homicide, Johnson has also been charged with endangering a child and injury to a child, according to the Advocate. Law enforcement had looked into problems with the family before the child’s disappearance and death. Victoria County District Attorney Steve Tyler told the Advocate that officers once found the child wandering in the area. And the Chronicle reported that the Johnson home was twice investigated by CPS regarding Kylar and was the location of a fatal shooting last year. More... Negligence in mauling death of boy, 4 Father was detailing his truck VICTORIA, Texas (AP) - A South Texas man has been accused of negligent homicide in the mauling death of his 4-year-old son by a neighbor's pit bull. Court records show 28-year-old Michael Cole Johnson of Victoria faces arraignment June 15. ::snipping2:: Johnson was indicted last week on charges of negligent homicide, injury to a child and child abandonment. He was arrested Thursday at a refinery where he works. Court records did not list an attorney for Johnson, who's free on his own recognizance. The dog was euthanized. |
