Randy and his brother Ricky were encouraged to pursue their musical talents by their father, who was a fan of Hank Williams, George Jones, and Lefty Frizzell. In 1967, at the age of 8, Randy began playing guitar. Two years later, he and his brother began performing at local clubs and talent contests, calling themselves the Traywick Brothers.[1] Randy often fought with his father and soon dropped out of high school.[9] He became a juvenile delinquent and was arrested for various offenses, including auto theft and burglary. Travis has since voiced regret for his past misdeeds.[10]

In 1975, while his brother was serving time in jail for a high-speed car chase, Randy won a talent contest at a nightclub, Country City USA, in Charlotte, North Carolina. The club's owner, Elizabeth "Lib" Hatcher, took an interest in the young singer, hired him as a cook, and gave him regular singing jobs at the club.[6] During the late 1970s, Randy worked and sang at Country City USA. Still in his late teens, Travis had one more encounter with the law. At his hearing, the judge told Travis that if he ever saw the singer back in his court, he should be prepared to go to jail for a long time. 2:00 PM PT -- Travis had "bloodshot" eyes and torn clothing following the incident ... this according to the police report.

11:38 AM PT -- A source close to Randy tells TMZ, the singer was NOT drunk, nor had he been drinking. The source says Randy's fiancee and her estranged husband were arguing over visitation of their son and things got violent ... so Randy jumped in.

7:45 AM PT -- The Plano Police Department tells TMZ ... Travis was cited for simple assault. We're told officials believe Randy was the primary aggressor.

Cops say ... there was a "family argument" taking place between a man and a woman ... and Randy got involved.

Randy's lawyer, Larry Friedman, tells TMZ ... the woman in the argument is Randy's fiancee', who was arguing with her estranged husband ... when Randy entered the situation. 

Friedman says, "Randy Travis was the only man that came to the rescue ... fortunately even today chivalry is not dead”

Another man was also involved in the fight, but cops say it wasn't the husband.

She was married to Travis for 19 years and managed him for 30, until, she claims, the singer and his attorneys terminated her contract without any written notice. Randy Travis’ lawyer Larry Friedman  is defending his client’s actions in Thursday night’s scuffle, which resulted in the country singer receiving that Class C citation for simple assault. Friedman told The Dallas Morning News that the confrontation was an argument between Travis’ girlfriend, Mary Beougher, and her estranged husband. Beougher’s 16-year-old daughter was also involved, Friedman said. (Update: The police citation says the daughter was 17 years old, not 16.)

Friedman, who didn’t witness the incident but said he heard descriptions from people involved, said that Travis stepped in to protect Beougher and her daughter.

The lawyer later added: “Randy was the hero. He came in to save the day.”

Travis' attorney, Larry Friedman, said the woman involved in the incident was Travis' girlfriend, Mary Beougher, who was waiting with her estranged husband for their teenage daughter to return from a field trip in the church parking lot at the time of the incident.

When an argument over custody broke out between the wife, husband and a third male subject, Travis -- who had accompanied Beougher to the church -- weighed in, Friedman said.

A police report released Friday lists Travis and a 17-year-old female as having been cited for simple assault. Beougher's ex-husband and another male subject are listed as victims. Travis' clothes are described in the report as "torn" and his eyes "bloodshot."

Previously, Plano, Texas police spokesman David Tilley described a Class C assault as something from a simply unwanted touch to any physical contact that doesn’t cause pain or injury. On Sunday, Nashville Gab reported that Shamoun said “the story told about Randy Travis defending his paramour is a total fabrication.” Shamoun reiterated that point during a phone call with Taste of Country, adding that his client is also angry about the incident involving Travis’s truck.

The vehicle was found wrecked and abandoned on Saturday (Aug. 25). Travis’s lawyer said that the singer “hasn’t been in that truck or seen that truck in about three months,” adding that, “this has nothing to do with Randy whatsoever.”

Shamoun claims Travis frequently let his girlfriend’s 16-year-old son drive the truck, speculating that it may have been wrecked while the boy was mudding in the field. Additionally, the lawyer admits it’s possible that the son was behind the wheel at the time of the accident, but he was not sure. Shamoun said he was the one who took the photos of the smashed truck, which appeared in the Dallas Morning News.

Penn State cancelled the concert a few days after the "Birthday Suit" incident.:)
I was surprised to learn it was to be a benefit concert for St. Joseph's Catholic Academy.  The Eisenhower Theater capacity seating is 2,500.

Days after he was arrested on drunken driving charges, popular country music star Randy Travis' Sept. 2 concert in State College has been canceled.


Travis was arrested for DUI on Tuesday night and has since canceled several appearances. The concert was supposed to be at Eisenhower Auditorium on Penn State's campus as a benefit for the The State Theatre and St. Joseph's Catholic Academy.

You were magical to this country girl's heart. I am so careful because the son is minor. It does not seem to bother MB, or his family.

Yes, nice wheels for a 17 year old.  What is he going to expect when he turns 18?  In the comments he says dad sold the "beamer" so I guess this is the replacement.  Don't know who's dime was used to pay for it, but I guess that isn't important.  I am not much of a sports car aficionado, so I can't tell what make or model the car is, but he says its fast, so I guess that is all the is we need to know.   

Poor RT does look "hot" in that picture, but not in a good way.  I think he needs to invest in some Grecian Formula or change the picture of the marquee.  ::CowboySmiley::

Perhaps, he had some Verk done on his mug?  His face looks different...IMO

If he did have "verk," he needs to ask for his money back.  In the picture from the jumbo tron, he has more wrinkles than a Chinese laundry could get out.  He actually, to me, looks a little bloated.  Compare the two pictures and I see much sharper, angular features on the Caesar's mug, along with much darker hair.  Steroids can make you bloat and he could be taking those to help with the rib injuries.  Or he could just be porking up a little more with his little honey bun.  Maybe MB is a great cook -- she has to bring some assets into the marriage, ya know! ::CowboySmiley::

I don't think he wanted to anymore "bad" press and especially if they weren't even having to pay their way in.  I think it was somewhat petty of him.  The press is going to attend if they think a story is to be had.  They will just have their corporation pay for it.  I certainly don't think the show was a sell out and RT revoked the press privileges just to make more seats for fans.  I also think press credentials give them more access backstage.  I am sure RT didn't want to get ambushed before or after the show with a  bunch of embarrassing questions about his recent escapades.  MB and family were probably backstage as well, and it may have been a way to keep them from being "harassed"  by any one who could procure a press pass.   ::CowboySmiley::

TY, Seahorse, for the instructions on inserting a photo into a post.  I must admit to a little laziness on my part in learning how to do that here at SM.  However, so many of the threads I have followed already have monkeys posting great pictures, so I have never really felt the need to find more. 

As for 'ol Blue Eyes and the press, I am not sure I would try to get into any event where he had made it clear that I, i.e. the press, was not welcome.  He had some big muscle (and lead) behind  him. and I wouldn't want to cross his wishes.  The same thing with anything that might have his copyright -- think the Mob may still have his back. I am not sure RT has near the clout that FS did.   ::CowboySmiley::

LOL - yep, lots of dough getting kneaded for that young man.  I saw last week where a Hebron High School (in Carrollton, I think) had a 15 year-old student driving a $150,000 Lamborghini to school.  The last time I checked, you need a hardship license to drive at 15 in Texas -- what kind of hardship is claimed if you can give your kid a Lamborghini to drive.

I guess I am just jealous -- When I was in school I drove a '55 Chevy (15 years old at the time) and was lucky to have that.    ::CowboySmiley::

 I saw a 1955 chevy the other evening on (I believe) on the Speed Channel.  It caught my attention, because my saintly, grandfather, owned, a 1957 gray Chevy.  I am not sure if this is the car on the show or not.   ::MonkeyEek::

RB would much rather have a cool vintage car other than that ugly Caddy, that is my opinion.

That is a '55 Chevy Nomad -- very rare and very pricey today!  Tim the Toolman (Tim Allen) bought one for his wife (Patricia Heaton) on the show Home Improvement.  They were a strange combo vehicle--basically a two door station wagon.  In  either one, I would still have had to look through the steering wheel because I was/am so short.

1957 Chevrolet BelAir - I always thought these were nicer looking than the '55's. 

None of the above mentioned would have made a good mudding vehicle.  I got mine stuck in a friends dirt driveway after a gully washer.  I evidently hit some piece of metal which lodged in my transmission and kept the gear shift from changing gears.  Her dad had to pull me out in his tractor and I doubt I ever got all the mud off Ol' Yeller (the name of my car).   ::CowboySmiley::

What happened to Ol' Yeller?  I understand Chevy parts are interchangeable, and this is why many Chevy's are still running, as long as (LOL) you avoid the mud. What fun you must have had cruising around.I bet all the kids wanted to drive your car.

Singer Randy Travis arrives at a crossroads

TIOGA - Nearly an hour from downtown Dallas, U.S. 380 runs east to west and unofficially marks the end of the city's northward sprawl. Turn north off 380, and the speed limit rises while most everything else slows down. Restaurants change from national chains to family-run places. Dense housing developments give way to spacious ranches.

Twenty miles north of 380 on U.S. 377 is Tioga, the birthplace of Gene Autry. A town of 803 people and a formidable number of horses, it is a fine place for a private person of note to disappear onto one of those ranches.

Anonymity, however, is harder to come by when a private person of note goes on a cigarette run without any clothes and, for lack of pockets, any money.

Randy Travis - the country star from North Carolina who made his name in Nashville in the '80s and now lives in Tioga - is accused of drunkenly doing just that Aug. 6. The incident was widely reported, and much of the coverage had a comical tone, what with the nakedness and all. But it was, at the time, the latest incident in what has been a troubled period for the one-time hit maker.

In February, Travis had been arrested for public intoxication in the parking lot of First Baptist Church in Sanger, 20 miles from Tioga. Then, two weeks after his arrest on charges of driving while intoxicated and threatening police officers (while naked), he was cited for assault after an altercation in another Baptist church parking lot, this time about 45 miles south, in Plano. The following day, a truck registered in his name was found rolled in Frisco, which is between Plano and Tioga. Reports placed the truck in "a field." But that field was hemmed in by two housing communities and a shopping center. It was hardly the middle of nowhere. Travis' attorney said an employee was driving the truck at the time of the accident.

The expanse of miles between the sites of these incidents suggests an almost desperate lack of control.

t’s hard to tell if anybody’s home at the ranch Randy and Elizabeth Travis once shared, 15 miles west of the Plaza, off Caja del Rio Road.

The expansive residential compound — with a swimming pool, gym, shooting range, bowling alley, an air-conditioned horse barn and separate “barn” for a touring bus, all valued for tax purposes at $13.5 million — is still owned by the Randy and Elizabeth Travis Trust, though the country music star and his former wife and manager divorced two years ago.

No one answered the push-button speaker box at the grandiose masonry arch with fake viga ends and a bell tower that frames a locked metal gate at the end of Avenida de Rey. Neighbors say the only vehicles they’ve seen entering the gate lately are the housekeeper and an occasional maintenance man.

The luxurious residence isn’t listed for sale in the Multiple Listing Service. The Haber Corp., an accounting firm specializing in celebrity clients, is listed as the source of tax payments, but no one at the Nashville, Tenn., office responded to inquiries about the ranch’s status. Local Realtors say that if the property goes on the market, it might be best not to link it to its former celebrity occupants.

Randy Travis, 53, who lately has been living at a ranch near the North Texas town of Tioga, keeps on touring, but his personal life has been rocky since his divorce from Elizabeth, 70.   ::snipping2::

Randy Travis didn't kick the holy crap out of anyone outside of a Texas church back in August ... at least that's what the country singer is telling the judge.

Travis just appeared in court in Plano, Texas ... where he plead not guilty to simple assault for allegedly attacking another man in the church parking lot around 1 AM on August 24.

TMZ broke the story ... cops say Randy was the primary aggressor after getting involved in a "family argument" between a woman and another man.

Randy's lawyer, Larry Friedman, had told us the woman is Randy's fiancee ... who was arguing with her estranged husband ... when Randy entered the situation.

Friedman claimed Randy had simply "come to the rescue" and did nothing wrong.

The case is now slated to head to trial -- which is set to begin in March.

He was not arrested, but given a citation for a five hundred dollar fine.

Travis says he was only protecting himself, and his girlfriend, when her estranged husband attacked them in the parking lot.

Randy Travis was in court in Plano today, pleading not guilty to assault following that August dust-up in the Prestonwood Baptist Church parking lot. The case is set for trial March 11. Travis, you may recall, wasn’t arrested at the time, but issued a citation for Class C simple assault. His attorneys, Pete Schulte and Larry Friedman, say they’re anxiously awaiting March 11 — if nothing else, to clear their client’s name and prove what really happened the night of August 23.

At the time of the incident, Plano police said that officers at the scene “determined there had been an argument between an estranged husband and wife.” That woman, turns out, is Travis’ girlfriend.

Friedman says today that there were actually two men involved, and that they were harassing the woman and her 17-year-old daughter.

“Randy was a Good Samaritan,” Friedman says. “He was the Good Samaritan. He intervened in an assault by two men who were beating two women, one of whom was a minor. When he intervened, one of those two attackers attacked Randy, and he defended himself. When the police arrived, one attacker was on top of Randy, and the police pulled him off Randy. But Randy was trying to protect the two women from further harm.”

And despite earlier accounts that said Travis was drunk, police said there was nothing to indicate he’d been drinking alcohol. Just weeks earlier Travis had been arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated up in Pilot Point following a similar incident in Sanger. But Friedman says Travis is now clean and sober.

“Randy is no longer drinking any alcohol,” he says. “He’s committed to a new fitness regimen that includes a strict three-hour workout every day and a new high-protein diet.”

The country superstar is finally facing the music over last August's infamous naked arrest now that prosecutors in Sherman, Texas have filed a DWI charge against him.
Travis' attorney, Larry Friedman, confirmed to E! News that the 53-year-old singer was charged with one count of driving while intoxicated after he was found in toxicology tests to have a blood-alcohol content greater than 0.15 (the Lone Star State's legal limit is 0.08).

This after police say Travis crashed his car on Aug. 7, 2012, and was found lying in the road naked and reeking of booze. After spending a night in the clink, the musician was released after authorities lent him some scrubs and a baseball cap (though no shoes).
The DWI count is punishable by a maximum two-year jail sentence and a $4,000 fine. A separate possible charge of felony retaliation, for allegedly threatening his arresting officers, remains under investigation.
A local CBS station quoted Grayson County DA as saying: "The case has taken some time because of blood tests that have been completed by both the prosecution and the defense."
Brown added that both sides were working on negotiating a possible plea deal to resolve the matter quickly.

No word yet on the next court date, but here's hoping he's got the wind at his back.
The DWI isn't the crooner's only run-in with the law.
Last month, Travis pleaded not guilty to a charge of simple assault resulting from a row he got into outside a church with a man after he waded into an argument the estranged husband was having with his wife, who's a friend of the Grammy winner.

Days before Christmas, Randy Travis was in Collin County court pleading not guilty to assault following the Aug. 23 dust-up in the Prestonwood Baptist Church parking lot. Long story short, for those who’ve forgotten, the country singer got into it with Ritchie Beougher, the estranged husband of Travis’s fiancée Mary Beougher, and Mary’s brother, William Barnes Davis. Travis’ attorney, Larry Friedman, has always claimed his client was a “knight in shining armor” who got involved only after the pair began accosting Mary and her 17-year-old daughter Cavanaugh.

Today, he made those allegations official with a nine-page lawsuit filed in Collin County district court on behalf of Travis and Mary and Cavanaugh Beougher. The suit alleges that Ritchie “orchestrated” a “scheme” with Davis “and others,” the object of which was to “physically injure” Travis and the women; help Ritchie “gain leverage over Mary in their pending divorce case”;

DALLAS - Country music singer Randy Travis has reached a plea agreement in a misdemeanor assault case arising from an altercation last summer in a Texas church parking lot, KTVT-TV reported on Saturday.

The Grammy winner will serve 90 days of deferred adjudication under a plea he entered on Friday in a municipal court in Plano, a Dallas suburb, the CBS-affiliated station in Dallas/Forth Worth reported.

SHERMAN (January 31, 2013)—Country singer Randy Travis, 53, pleaded guilty Thursday to driving while intoxicated in an incident last summer in which the naked country music star crashed his Pontiac Trans Am north of Dallas.

Travis received a 180-day suspended jail sentence, 24 months of probation and a $2,000 fine.

He could have received as much as two years in jail and been fined as much as $4,000.

Country music star Randy Travis has sued the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Office of the Attorney General after some evidence from his drunken-driving arrest last summer was ordered released to the public.
Travis in January pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated. The arrest video was collected Aug. 7 after Travis was found naked after crashing his Pontiac Trans Am near Tioga, a town where Travis lives that is about 60 miles north of Dallas.
He received two years probation, a $2,000 fine and a 180-day suspended jail sentence, and the judge presiding over the case ordered Travis to spend at least 30 days at an alcohol treatment facility, complete 100 hours of community service and have an ignition interlock device on any vehicle he operates while on probation.
The judge also agreed with a defense motion asking that the arrest video and transcript not be released to the public. The judge also issued a ruling ordering the destruction of the video, saying that it may not be released, Travis says in a lawsuit filed with the Travis County district clerk on Tuesday.
However, the attorney general issued a ruling earlier this month saying that some of the information should be released under a public information act request, the suit says.
DPS received a written request for information about the arrest and sought a ruling from the attorney general, the suit says. Agencies often request such rulings from the attorney general’s office after receiving public information requests.
On May 3, the attorney general ruled that a portion of the information must be withheld and the remainder should be released to the requestor, the letter says. The lawsuit doesn’t specify which information the attorney general said should be withheld and which should be released.
According to the suit filed Tuesday, the singer is seeking $100,000 and a declaratory judgment that information about his arrest not be released under a public information act request.
The August accident was among a string of recent run-ins with the law for Travis.

A judge originally granted a defense request to block the video from being released. But media groups requested the video from DPS, and the attorney general's office ruled this month that the judge didn't have discretion to bar the video's release.

Randy Travis delivered one of the standout performances at George Jones‘ funeral, and he’s just released a new single, ‘Tonight I’m Playin’ Possum,’ as a tribute to the iconic singer. In a new interview, Travis says he had a lot in common with Jones, both musically and otherwise.

“Both of us are obviously just country boys who came up through years of playing at nightclubs before actually having a record deal,’ Travis tells the Chicago Sun-Times. “We were both, no doubt, traditionalists all the way through. And I learned so much about singing from George Jones just by listening to him. There was a stretch of years where every hit he had, I was learning them to sing in clubs.”

That’s not all they had in common. Jones’ penchant for alcohol and erratic behavior was almost as much a part of his legend as his music, earning him headlines again and again over the course of decades. Travis has often admitted to a troubled youth that included drugs and alcohol, arrests and fights, and after decades of sobriety he slipped in recent years, resulting in a series of arrests and public embarrassments that trace back to alcohol.

Country singer Randy Travis has been admitted to a Texas hospital and is listed in critical condition, according to his public relations firm.

The six-time Grammy winner is suffering from complications of recently acquired viral cardiomyopathy.

"Cardiomyopathy is the term for any disease of the heart muscle that interferes with the heart’s ability to pump blood with sufficient force," according to Johns Hopkins Medicine. Travis' condition, which is viral, was caused by an infection in the heart.

Good news!  He's been a stinker at times, but I didn't want anything to happen to him.  I hope Randy has cleaned up and gets on a good health regimin and stays on it.  It appears others in his life tried to help him.  From what I've read here (thank you, seahorse) Elizabeth Travis tried to help him, with nutritious meals etc.  Maybe he had to have this big scare in his life for the message to get through.  Hitting the bottom before coming back up?  Anyway, I hope Randy improves and makes some more great music.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The publicist for Randy Travis says the country music singer has suffered a stroke in a Texas hospital.

Publicist Kirt Webster said Wednesday night that the 54-year-old Travis suffered the stroke while he was being treated for congestive heart failure because of a viral illness.

Webster said Travis was undergoing surgery Wednesday night to relieve pressure on his brain. He has been in critical condition.

Doctors said earlier Wednesday that Travis was in good health until three weeks before he was hospitalized, when he contracted a viral upper respiratory infection.

The viral illness led to a weakened heart muscle that eventually worsened into heart failure.

Travis was taken to the emergency room on Sunday. The singer underwent a procedure to have a pump inserted by catheter that helps increase blood flow.

Randy Travis has suffered a stroke. Reports issued early Wednesday (July 10) indicated that the singer’s condition was improving. But by nightfall, he was rushed into surgery to relieve pressure on his brain after suffering the stroke.

The singer’s medical woes over the past week have been well-documented, with his publicity team keeping both the media and Travis’ fans abreast of how he is doing via informative press releases, even including a conference video from his team of doctors. The medical staff explained that Travis was suffering from congestive heart failure after being admitted to a McKinney, Texas hospital on Sunday, and that he has since been transferred to Baylor’s best heart facility to receive specialized care.

The stroke was apparently a complication of his congestive heart failure. Travis was in surgery as of 9:30PM ET on Wednesday. He remains in critical condition.

This is not sounding good today.  I am certainly sending my prayers for Randy and his loved ones.  How sad.

I'm watching "Today", on tv, and it was said Randy Travis's doctors are having to relieve the pressure on his brain "hourly".  So frightening.   They didn't go into detail, but it just doesn't sound good at all.  I believe in miracles, and Randy could use one now. 

It so sad, because he should be still on tour, if only he had someone who looked out for his interests, and not their own. IMO. Greed, comes to mind, IMO. :(

If RT could turn back the hands of time and not have fired Lib Travis, as his manager, his life would still be good in my opinion.

Yesterday we noted that Nancy Jones, the widow of George Jones, flew in from Nashville Thursday to visit Travis at the hospital, where the singer’s fiancee Mary Beougher has been by his side since he was hospitalized Sunday. The Associated Press reports that Nancy played some of Jones’ music for his old friend.

“Randy and George Jones were good friends,” Nancy Jones told the AP via email. “When I was dealing with George’s issues a few months ago, both Randy and Mary were right there for me. I had to get on a plane and come see him. I love him, and I know that George is looking over him during this time.”

But Baylor officials said Friday afternoon that there are “no changes in his condition,” which remains critical.

Randy and his brother Ricky were encouraged to pursue their musical talents by their father, who was a fan of Hank Williams, George Jones, and Lefty Frizzell. In 1967, at the age of 8, Randy began playing guitar. Two years later, he and his brother began performing at local clubs and talent contests, calling themselves the Traywick Brothers. Randy often fought with his father and soon dropped out of high school.[9] He became a juvenile delinquent and was arrested for various offenses, including auto theft and burglary. Travis has since voiced regret for his past misdeeds.

In 1975, while his brother was serving time in jail for a high-speed car chase, Randy won a talent contest at a nightclub, Country City USA, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Randy Travis’ Condition Is Chronic, Will Require Long-Term Care

Dr. Michael Mack, the medical director of cardiovascular disease at Baylor Health Care System in Dallas, reveals Travis was on life support for the first 48 hours after he was  hospitalized last Sunday (July 7), suffering from viral cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure. “His heart did respond positively to that and after a 48-hour period of time we were able to wean him from that support,” Mack states.

It was after that support was removed that Travis suffered a stroke on Wednesday (July 10), necessitating emergency surgery to relieve pressure on his brain. Dr. Mack adds that the singer’s illness was initially viral in nature, but has now become a chronic condition.

“He has what’s called idiopathic cardiomyopathy,” Mack says, “which means he has scarring of his heart muscle that is causing his heart to be weak and not able to support his circulation without help of either medical devices of medication.” The doctor states that Travis’ heart shows scar tissue, but no active infection, and that his condition does not appear to stem from alcohol or drugs, pointing to his family history as the main contributing factor.

Dr. Gary Erwin is an intensivist at The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano, where Travis is being treated. He says Travis has responded well to his surgery, and that scans have revealed an increase in brain activity. The singer is currently on IV meds to help support his heart, but will soon start on the oral medications that he will have to take long-term.

“As a result of his heart condition, acutely, and the stroke, he was put on a ventilator to help him breathe during his hospitalization,” Erwin says. “He remains on that, but we are decreasing that support daily.” Travis is awake and alert, interacting with family and friends, and beginning the early stages of physical therapy.

Travis will remain hospitalized for two or three weeks to stabilize his heart. He will begin an aggressive course of physical therapy during that time. After he transfers to an inpatient facility, he will continue to receive intensive physical therapy. “We anticipate it will take months to recover from the stroke,” Erwin states.

MARSHVILLE, N.C. -- The brother of country singer Randy Travis is in the Union County Jail after deputies said they found a meth lab inside his home in Marshville Tuesday night.

Investigators searched the home of 50-year-old David Traywick on Fountain Hill Church Road and said they found a working meth lab inside.

Deputies arrested Traywick, his wife Jessica and two other women, charging them with conspiracy to traffic meth.

This is not the first time the country singing star's brother has been in trouble with the law.  In September of last year, Union County deputies arrested him for cooking meth in a makeshift lab near his home in Marshville.

Randy Travis has been discharged from the hospital, more than three weeks after he was admitted for a heart condition. But the singer won’t be returning home yet.

According to a statement from his publicist on Wednesday (July 31), Travis has been released from Baylor Heart Hospital in Plano, Texas, and relocated to a physical therapy facility.

Travis has already been undergoing physical therapy. He will continue with a very intensive regimen now that he is in a private care facility. His doctors expect that it will take months for him to recover from his stroke.

It’s possible the context in which Randy Travis releases his new single ‘Tonight I’m Playing Possum’ could cause fans and critics to overstate its impact. Then again, maybe not. There are, after all, only so many words available to heap effusive praise on this brilliantly composed and performed traditional ballad.

You’re not alive if Travis’ deep bellow doesn’t touch every raw nerve on your body. In a world of musical snack food, his song (written by Keith Gattis) is a 16-ounce T-bone. He’s talking about George Jones, of course — a man Travis called a friend and idol. “So find a drink or find a road, I’m ’bout to drop a needle on some ol’ No Show,” he sings to begin each chorus of ‘Tonight I’m Playing Possum.’ A better lyric likely won’t come in 2013.

“You’re gonna want an ashtray and a bottle / I’m going deep, I’m going long ’til I run that needle through every last song, he ever sung / So pour ‘em strong and smoke ‘em if you got ‘em / Boys, tonight I’m playing Possum.”

Jones died on April 26, about 10 weeks before Travis entered the hospital with heart troubles. Joe Nichols recorded the song as a duet with Travis, but his voice is left off this new version, as often happens when artists from different labels collaborate. While the Nichols version is special, it’s a new experience listening to Travis pour his heart out across the full three minutes and forty seconds. And he truly does pour everything he has into the track.

With so many questions about Travis’ health, it’s fair to wonder if ‘Tonight I’m Playing Possum’ will be his final recording. The song will either prove to be a fitting end for one of country’s all-time vocalists, or the start of a very exciting chapter.

He has recovered from the double pneumonia and is breathing on his own. He sat up for the first time in late August. He is seeing close friends and family. Was finally able to start rehab and is enjoying chocolate milkshakes,He has come a long way but still has a long way to go.I have posted several updates on him because I knew people wanted to know how he was doing. You don't have to doubt my word. my sources are reliable - not speculation. What I have said in these updates are limited. It will be up to Randy how much of his struggles he shares. Maybe his Rep will make a statement soon and it will be here on is page. What I don't understand is why people are not satisfied to know that he is making progress.

Randy Travis Still Needs Prayers, But Is ‘Doing Great’

Over the summer, Randy Travis stared down a serious health scare. The country legend had congestive heart failure and suffered a stroke, and things were touch-and-go for a while — he was even placed on life support.

Thankfully, Travis has been resting and recovering since. His pal and ‘Evil Inclinations’ co-star Billy Ray Cyrus opens up about the ‘Tonight I’m Playin’ Possum’ singer’s condition during an interview with ‘Entertainment Tonight,’ revealing that the singer is doing well, but still needs prayers.

“If you love Randy Travis, keep praying for Randy Travis,” says Cyrus.

Travis’ rep also tells the news program that the singer is off life support and making progress. The singer, who released ‘Under the Influence: The Man I Am’ earlier this month, is “currently in Texas in physical therapy and doing great!”

As it stands, Travis plans to return to his Texas ranch this Friday (Oct. 11).

The deferred adjudication plea may end the criminal case, but Travis and Beougher have taken the case to Collin County civil court. They sued her estranged husband, Ritchie Dean Beougher, and his uncle, William Barnes Davis.   ::MonkeyEek::

Yes, anyone can say anything!  I have serious doubts that any of this is true, good reading for entertainment, in my opinion.


The complaint states:

 "Randy was sitting in Mary's car waiting for Mary. When she didn't return right away he turned around and looked for her. From Mary's car, he saw Ritchie bouncing Mary off of his truck and saw Cavanaugh on the ground. He immediately exited the vehicle he was in, approached Ritchie and told Barnes to back off and leave Cavanaugh alone and exchanged some choice words with him. Barnes, who had already warmed himself up by assaulting his sister, Mary, and his teenage niece, Cavanaugh, grabbed Randy and wrestled him to the ground.

Hmmm.  It would appear MB's ex and her brother were trying to set RT up for arrest and a possible financial payout.  (Settlement)  Or maybe they wanted to embarrass/disgrace Randy & MB?   It's pretty crappy when your own blood relative is in with your ex to attempt to extract money from you and/your your significant other.  I wonder if the cop in the parking lot was in on this?  If so, if it can be proven, he too can be a part of a civil suit. 

If the events as alleged in the article are true, then perhaps a civil suit was the way tto go.  Sometimes these things aren't so much about money, (like when Ron Goldberg's family sued OJ) but about justice.  And I wonder, depending on how the civil suit works out,(besides attorneys getting richer) how does that affect the outcome of any future ? 
 
I was just thinking about how a conversation would go for a patient to go get their teeth cleaned and the dentist Dr. Beougher comes in and you make small talk.  "So doc, how was the parking lot rumble in the
church parking lot last week? "  He should stop acting like some little league coach (I've seen plenty of them getting they're jocks in a knot over less) and brawling in public, no matter what. He and MB's bubba pulled in behind RT and MB in a church parking lotand started something, (and it wasn't prayers) it would seem.   Stop manhandling women folk, doc.  Just because she was your ex doesn't give you a right to do that.  And frankly, I can't imagine too many men (and a lot of women) that would stand there while a woman was shoved up against a car.   ::MonkeyNoNo::  It does look bad on RT's part, because he's had some, uh, uhm, issues previously.  However, if he stepped up in MB's defense, more power to him.   ::CowboySmiley::  JMHO

(Bolded by me) Hmmm...  it could be "insider information" or it could be something one might assume with the type of surgery he's had, I'm not really sure.  Sometimes the NE is pretty far out, but then other times it can surprise us and be correct. The "sauces" (love that term!) could be the friend of a friend of a friend, someone that has worked in the home, someone at the hospital etc.  I guess the NE gleans their information from passing around enough $$$.   ::MonkeyWink::  and I guess as long as some folks don't break confidentiality agreements....

William Jan Berry (April 3, 1941 – March 26, 2004) and Dean Ormsby Torrence (born March 10, 1940).

I saw Jan and Dean perform on stage about ten years ago.  The crowd loved Jan, he was sitting throughout the performance
and he chimed in on the songs, it was a memorial performance.  I think there is hope for Randy, too! IMO. :smt054

But wait. The Texas Department of Public Safety, which has a copy of the video, objected to the judge's order and, on Monday, a state appeals court agreed.

   In this case, the attorney general has opined that, while parts of the video were confidential, the remainder of the video was public information and was required to be released. By the clear language of the statute, the trial court would err by ordering relator not to produce this public information. It follows that the trial court erred by ordering relator to destroy it.

That's not to say the dash-cam footage will be released immediately. Travis filed a lawsuit in Travis County seeking to overturn the attorney general's decision that the video has to be made public. But it's comforting to know that it still exists.

Randy Travis is set to add to his acting credentials with a part in the Lifetime movie ‘Christmas on the Bayou.’

Travis plays Mr. Greenhall, a local store owner, in the film, which is set to premiere on Saturday (Dec. 14) at 8PM ET. The film also stars ‘One Tree Hill’ alums Hilarie Burton and Tyler Hilton.

The story centers around Burton’s character Katherine, a marketing executive in New York who realizes that her work is taking a toll on her son and decides to go home to the bayou to spend Christmas. Hilton plays Caleb, a former flame of Katherine’s who tries to convince her to move back home. Katherine is struggling with the decision, but will have help from Papa Noel (played by Ed Asner) to make her final choice. More information about the film and a preview are available on Lifetime’s website.

Today is a monumental anniversary for Randy Travis. It was on this date 27 years ago (Dec. 20, 1986) that he became a member of the Grand Ole Opry.

His induction came only six months after the release of ‘Storms of Life,’ his first album on Warner Bros. That record spawned four No. 1 hits, including ‘Diggin’ Up Bones,’ which reached No. 1 only a few weeks before he became a member of the revered organization.

As Randy Travis continues to battle his ongoing health issues, a previously unheard recording of the singer performing an unreleased song has surfaced online.
The tune, called ‘Childhood Sweethearts,’ was written by Travis and Bonnie Paul, a songwriter and good friend of Travis who has been providing updates on his medical condition.
“We co-wrote it together,” Paul shares in a tweet. “I was jogging pushing my 4 year old son at the time, one hand on jogger other hand by my ear writing this song with Randy … We spoke for 3 hours writing it. I never jogged so fast one handed, and being on top of the world writing with such a country legend.”
Paul released the song on her own in 2011.
Meanwhile, a new photo of Travis has surfaced, showing the singer in a wheelchair but smiling and seemingly in good spirits. The 54-year-old was originally hospitalized for viral cardiomyopathy on July 7, before suffering a stroke and undergoing brain surgery. He was released from the hospital on July 31 and admitted to a physical therapy facility.
While news of his current condition has been sporadic, Billy Ray Cyrus hinted in October that Travis still needed prayers for his healing.
The Grand Ole Opry member released his latest album,  ‘Influence Vol. 1: The Man I Am,’ on Oct. 1 on Warner Brothers. The record includes songs by artists Travis says were influential in his own career, including tunes by George Jones, Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings.

(Bolded by me)  I guess I'm just curious as to what is considered a "full recovery" as noted in the headline of the article compared to what we we read inside the article "there is not anyway to predict if Randy Travis will ever be able to perform again".  I assume that to mean he may recover some of his normal functions of health and everyday living, but as to whether he can perform again isn't known. This must be very difficult for Randy Travis, not only as a performer, but also he will have loss of income.  This is very sad.   ::MonkeyNoNo::

A life-threatening cardiac event and stroke almost took the life of country icon Randy Travis last year. In a rare public appearance, Travis and fiancée Mary Beougher attended a Dolly Parton concert recently. Travis needed a cane to walk from his bus into the venue and to his seat, but a full recovery is expected.

Mary Beougher decided to surprise Randy Travis and took him to see Dolly Parton's concert in Thackerville, Okla., according to a report on June 4. The couple was accompanied by their close friend, country music singer Janie Fricke. According to Dolly Parton’s publicist, Randy Travis is doing great and is expected to make a full recovery. Sources say that Travis has been undergoing hyperbaric treatments three times a week and has made significant progress over the past several months.

Dolly Parton acknowledged Travis’s presence at her concert, joking that Randy Travis was hiding somewhere dressed like Kenny Rogers. Dolly said that Randy has been a long-time friend and one of her favorite singer/songwriters of all time. Parton also said that Travis looks good and is doing great.

Although he has made significant strides in the healing process, there is not anyway to predict if Randy Travis will ever be able to perform again. Seeing him in the photo taken over the weekend with Dolly Parton and Janie Fricke, fans gained new hope that Travis will indeed perform again, given time. The singer, who is smiling in the photo, looks healthier than he did in photos posted on Twitter in January. He even appears to have gained back a bit of the significant amount of weight he has lost since July 2013.

In March Randy Travis’s New Mexico ranch was put on the market for $14.7 million. The 20,000 square foot gated estate has stitched leather ceilings, horse stables, 10 fireplaces, hand-carved doors and more amenities. There is even a place that Travis had specifically built to park a tour bus. Randy Travis and then-wife Elizabeth purchased the home from former New Mexico Gov. Bruce King in 2002. The couple lived there together until their divorce in 2010.

Randy Travis made one of his first public appearances since his health crisis last year, and it was to attend the concert of his good friend Dolly Parton.
The singer showed up at Parton’s recent Blue Smoke World Tour stop in Thackerville, Okla., where he was greeted warmly by the songstress.
“There are some people you just love and admire for their talents. Tonight, one of those people [is] here,” Parton said in between songs. ”Randy Travis, wherever you are, I hope you are enjoying the show.”
Parton was clearly thrilled by her friend’s visit.
“It was so great to have Randy at my show,” Parton tells People magazine. “He was looking good and doing great.”
Travis has stayed mostly out of the limelight since struggling with complications of viral cardiomyopathy and subsequently suffering a stroke that required emergency surgery to relieve the pressure on his brain.
The ‘Three Wooden Crosses’ singer did appear in the beginning of the year in a picture with his fiancee and two others, and joined his good friend Neal McCoy at a show in his home state of Texas.
Travis’ latest album, ‘Influence Vol. 1: The Man I Am,’ came out in October. The 13-song record features tracks by some of the artists he says were the most influential in his life, including Merle Haggard, George Jones and Waylon Jennings.
Hopefully, even more music from the country music hitmaker won’t be far behind. His father, Harold Traywick, says his son is anxious to keep making music.
“He’s getting his voice back now, little by little,” he says.

Randy Travis is gearing up to release a new 13-track album, ‘Influence Vol. 2: The Man I Am,’ this August.
This album from the seven-time Grammy winner follows Vol. 1, which was released last year. Similar to the first, the ‘The Man I Am’ sequel will showcase in-studio cover performances from the singer and his band. On the record, Travis pays tribute to artists and songs that helped shape his legendary country career.
“We had such a great time putting together ‘Influence Vol. 1,’” the singer explains in a release, ”but there were still so many musical heroes of yesteryear that I learned from and wanted to honor. We had no choice but to release a second volume.”

28 years ago today, on July 26, 1986, Randy Travis was undoubtedly doing plenty of celebrating. That day the singer earned his first No. 1 single with ‘On the Other Hand,’ from his freshman ‘Storms of Life’ album.
The song, which was written by Paul Overstreet and Don Schlitz, depicts a man who is wearing a wedding band on one hand, while being tempted by another woman.

The song almost never made it onto the charts for Travis. It was originally released as the debut single from ‘Storms of Life,’ but stalled on the charts without coming close to the Top 40. After releasing ’1982,’ which peaked at No. 6, the song was re-released again, where it quickly soared to the very top.
The song can also be found both Travis’ ‘Greatest Hits, Volume 1′ album, as well as his ‘I Told You So: The Ultimate Hits of Randy Travis.’

Randy Travis Makes Rare Public Appearance

Randy Travis made a rare public appearance this week, marking one of the few times the country legend has been seen in public since his stroke last year.
Travis and his fiancee, Mary Davis, turned up at a banquet and fundraiser for the Four Rivers Outreach in Texas on Thursday (Sept. 18). According to its website, “Four Rivers is one of the largest nonprofit, faith-based organizations in Grayson County, providing both residential and non-residential programs for men and women who have life-controlling problems such as alcohol, drug abuse and homelessness.”

Travis did not want to speak on camera, as he is still recovering from his stroke, but Davis tells local news station KXII that he is still making progress, after she says doctors told her to pull the plug on him when he was at his worst.
“He’s not even bedridden anymore,” she relates. “He’s been through the wheelchair phase of it and just today they took his cane from him and gave him a walking stick, so it’s one more weaning process.”

DENISON — Randy Travis walked into a hangar at North Texas Regional Airport Thursday night to attend the Four Rivers Outreach banquet. While up and about, Travis's fiancée Mary Davis said they've still got a long way to go on the road to recovery.

"Every day we go to speech therapy and physical therapy and occupational therapy," she said. "We're learning words and phrases; learning to sing. Of course, the music and the songs come easy for him … he's working on it. He's got the heart of a warrior, and he doesn't stop."

Davis said Travis can talk a little, and has been working hard since suffering a stroke in July 2013. "He knows that the road ahead of us is long and tedious, but he's up for the challenge," she said. "He's never, never shied away from it… never asked, 'Why me?'"

Four Rivers Outreach said last year's performance by Travis helped them raise big money, and that's why they were glad he was able to return for the 2014 event.

"The second year we raised $105,000; last year we raised $169,000," said Arthur Horn, co-founder of the charitable organization. "Just being able to be here is a big improvement, because he couldn't even get out of the hospital and travel for a long time."

Travis was sentenced to two years' probation and 100 hours of community service after pleading guilty to a 2012 drunk driving charge near Tioga. Police said his blood alcohol level was 0.21, more than twice the legal limit.

Since that time, he had only performed at the 2013 Four Rivers benefit concert. The county's probation director said under an agreement with the court, Travis had planned more performances until health issues sidelined him.

"If Four Rivers were to have to pay him to come and do a performance, it would be pretty astronomical," said probation department spokesman Alan Brown. "If you broke that down into an hourly wage, then he's more than fulfilled his requirements as far as his community service if you looked at it that way."

Mary Davis said Travis is working to get back on stage doing what he loves to do.

TIOGA, Texas — It's proof that inspiration comes in many forms.

"He wakes up with a smile on his face; he goes to bed with a smile on his face. He inspires me daily," said Mary Davis, Randy Travis' fiancée.

Davis says every day has been trying and yet fulfilling.

Randy Travis was admitted with viral cardiomyopathy and suffered a stroke in July, 2013. His rehabilitation since then and the fight within has Randy Travis making remarkable strides.

"There's never that, 'Why me Lord?' It's always, 'Why not me, Lord?'" Davis said.

She has been a witness to those strides from the beginning. Travis appeared at a benefit in September using a walking stick. This week, Davis tells us he walked 300 yards without it.
"He's starting to write," she said. "He signed some guitars with his left hand. So Randy Travis has a new autograph!"

His recovery is a long road, but it would be wrong not to mention that part of that road runs through Tioga. That's the town where the country music star now lives, and where there is still a sign that reads: "Pray for Randy Travis."

Randy Travis was among the guests at Joe Nichols’ concert at Billy Bob’s Texas in Fort Worth on Saturday (Nov. 22). The country legend visited with Nichols, and even treated the ‘Yeah’ singer’s family to a barbecue dinner.
Nichols calls Travis a hero. The two became close shortly before Travis suffered a life-threatening stroke in 2013. Together, they recorded ‘Tonight I’m Playin’ Possum,’ a tribute to George Jones. On Saturday, Nichols sang the 1989 Travis hit ‘Promises’ as the 55-year-old watched from the side of the stage.
Appearances from Travis are becoming increasingly common as he continues to recover. At first he was limited to a wheelchair, but his fiancee, Mary Davis, now says he can walk up to 300 yards unassisted. She adds that they both believe he’ll perform again. In fact, Travis has begun working on new music, even learning to write left-handed.
While he still struggles with communication, he’s taken to song.
“The music does come easy,” Davis reveals. “He plays every single chord and he knows all the words.”

Randy Travis Returns to the Grand Ole Opry

More than two years after the medical crisis that almost took his life, Randy Travis made his return to the Grand Ole Opry on Friday night (Sept. 25).
The country legend suffered a debilitating stroke in 2013, and has been slowly making his way back to health ever since. Public appearances have been sporadic, and the singer has not spoken in public since his stint in the hospital. Travis did not perform at the Opry on Friday evening, but the pictures above from the Opry’s Facebook page show him enjoying the show, and also standing alongside Tanya Tucker.
Travis made an appearance at the ACM Awards in April, standing and acknowledging the cheering fans after being introduced by Lee Brice, who performed his classic song, “Forever and Ever, Amen.”
The singer was so touched by the outpouring of support that he posted a heartfelt letter on his website, saying, “It has been a hard fought and miraculous journey since my stroke two years ago. I have gained a greater understanding of God’s grace and how quickly events can change us.”
He says he is working toward the goal of performing for his fans again.
“As I work through music/speech/occupational/physical therapy, it is my hope that my songs of yesterday continue to touch your life in some way,” he writes.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) A federal judge has denied a request by country singer Randy Travis to stop the state of Texas from releasing footage of him naked and ranting during a 2012 DUI arrest.

The ruling on a request for an injunction issued Thursday paves the way for the Texas Department of Public Safety to release the footage on Friday, which was requested through an open records request.

Travis' family has been in a long legal battle to stop the release of the footage and argued in a federal filing that it should be considered private under health record privacy regulations. But the judge said he did not show a substantial likelihood of success on the claims.

The Country Music Hall of Fame singer suffered a stroke in 2013 and has limited ability to speak.
