SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) - Saginaw Township Police investigators need the public's help tracking down a missing Mid-Michigan woman.

Authorities said Leigh Swanson, 45, was last seen on Nov. 17. Swanson's family tells TV5 she was going out on a date with a new man she met through an online dating website.

Swanson's family has reached out to the man she went on the date with, but they say he was rude and hung up the phone. Now they say that man has disconnected his phone, and they're afraid something has happened to her.

Authorities said Leigh Swanson, 45, was last seen on Nov. 17. Swanson's family tells TV5 she was going out on a date with a new man she met through an online dating website.

"... We have been trying to reach her since," said Donna Johnson, Swanson's cousin.

Swanson's family has reached out to the man she went on the date with, but they say he was rude and hung up the phone once they indicated that they were going to contact police.

"Leigh told me that she had a bad feeling about going on the date ... I said, 'don't go,'" Swanson's mother, Beverly Kane, explained.

"But when she got there ... she called me ... and said everything was OK," her mother added.

I feel so bad for this family that they are struggling to get the media and PD to help get the word out that their loved one is missing.

Saginaw Township Police are working with Midland County Sheriff deputies looking for a missing woman. Relatives say Leigh Swanson who was last seen November 18th. Officers say the 45-year-old Saginaw woman was said to have gone on a date with a Midland man she met through an on-line dating service.

Police investigate suicide, find second body

The investigation of a missing Saginaw woman led police in Midland County Wednesday to a home where they heard a gunshot, later found a suicide victim and later a woman’s body nearby.

Sheriff’s officers received a tip that Swanson was in a home in Sanford, according to a press release.

Deputies collected DNA evidence at the home, and found a woman’s body at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to police.

The body was found in a wooded area across the street on a neighbor’s property in Edenville Township, police said.

MIDLAND, MI — Police investigating the disappearance of a 45-year-old Saginaw Township woman have recovered bodies of a man and woman during the course of the investigation, Midland County Sheriff Jerry Nielsen announced Wednesday, Nov. 28.

At the home on Tuesday, Nov. 27, deputies found the body of a 28-year-old man believed to have committed suicide, Nielsen said.

They later found a woman’s body, which has not yet been identified, in a wooded area nearby the same property, he said.

“We’ve obviously got investigators out there,” Nielsen said. “We do not have a positive identification.”

As two deputies arrived at the home, Nielsen said, they heard a loud “boom.”

A man came out of the house, according to the sheriff, and told deputies, “My son just shot himself.”

Nielsen said the cause of death for the unidentified woman, whose body was found in the woods of an adjoining property, has not yet been determined.

He declined to release any further details about the identity of the man whose body was found inside the home.

Swanson set up the date through MeetMe.com, according to a report from WNEM TV5.

Police investigating the  disappearance of  a Saginaw Township woman were waiting to confirm the identity of a woman's body found Wednesday afternoon in Midland County's Edenville Township.  The body was found near the home of a man who shot himself to death Tuesday as Midland County Sheriff deputies approached his house.  The home's phone number was the last one 45-year-old Leigh Swanson had used to call her mother, two days after she left her Saginaw Township home November 16th to go on a date with a man she'd met online.

Woman dead, man kills self in online date probe

EDENVILLE, Mich. (AP) — Central Michigan authorities searching for a woman who disappeared on a date with a man she met online say a man killed himself as deputies arrived at his house, and a woman’s body was found nearby Wednesday.

The body was found in Edenville Township but wasn’t immediately identified as the missing woman, Leigh Swanson, Midland County Sheriff Jerry Nielsen said during a news conference that was originally called to seek clues in the search for Swanson.

It was postponed for 20 minutes after the body was discovered.

In the house, deputies found a 28-year-old man dead from a gunshot wound. Nielsen withheld the name of the dead man. They also found human blood in another part of the house, he said.

.Autopsy set for today on body found in Edenville Twp. woods

An autopsy on the body that was found in a wooded area near an Edenville Township home where a suicide took place Tuesday is taking place today.

Midland County Sheriff Jerry Nielsen said it is hoped the autopsy will result in identification of the body, which is that of a woman.

The body was found at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday on wooded land in Edenville Township by sheriff’s deputies who were investigating the case of Leigh Catherine Swanson, 45, of Saginaw Township, who has been missing since Nov. 16.

I am not shocked but sad anyway. This is not far from me and not far from the home of a good friend.  Scary the type of people that hide in plain sight.

So was the 28yr old the one she met?  Why do I feel like there's more to this?

As of now local media is not saying if the 28 year old is a suspect. One story did say that the police were looking at him. Strange story. The guy that she rented a room from said he did not know about this date. The 28 year old's dad was apparently out of town the week before hunting. I will keep an eye out for more information.

Police have named the guy who killed himself when they arrived and is the suspect in the murder

Slain woman's friends can't make sense of why she was killed

FREELAND, MI (WNEM) - Friends are still reeling from the loss of their friend Leigh Swanson. Swanson went missing nearly two weeks ago after going on a date with a man she met online.

And just this week, police discovered her body near the home of 30-year-old Michael Fabi, who has been named as a suspect in Swanson's murder. This case is far from over with many questions still remaining.

But in the meantime, many say they just want to remember Swanson for the person she was - their friend.

Friends of Swanson are at a loss.

"She was a great person, she had a heart of gold," said her ex-boyfriend Randy Lovell.

"She was a very loving, caring person," said friend Becki Rau.

Many of Swanson's closest friends met Friday night at The Log Cabin Bar in Freeland, not sure of what to make of the news or why the horrible thing happened to her.

Details of apparent murder-suicide slowly surface while police wait for lab results

After meeting Fabi online, Swanson was dropped off by a taxi at the home on Sanford Lake, Nielsen said. Swanson arrived on Saturday, not Friday, as investigators originally believed, he said.

The sheriff's office continues interviews and once the investigation is complete they plan to submit the case to the prosecutor's office seeking a warrant related to Swanson's death, even though the main suspect is dead.

These statements strike me - first it is out in the middle of no where - I very rarely see taxis in metro areas this far north much less out in the sticks. Also, wonder who the warrant is for? My guess, the dad.
