Klaas how did you do with the rain? I know Northern Calif got hit the hardest this  time.  Yikes South LA had a tornado. Crazy  ::MonkeyNoNo:: Hope IBE is okay.

It rained really hard here for a while early yesterday morning, in fact, I didn't go to work. Worked today instead of yesterday.  I have about a 30 minute freeway drive early in the morning and wasn't about to risk it in the rain.  Other than that, no problems here, just a lot of rain and wind for a while.  Big rain and wind didn't last long.  I'm sure IBE is fine, I don't think she's in any of the evacuation or mud slide areas.

Hi folks.....this is a busy time here and I bet for everyone else.

Bella is in obedience classes, decorations are still going up, company arrives on Friday, big family
Christmas party at daughter's on Sunday.

It is different to have Christmas with the temps in the 70's.

How many of you have Hallmark movies on in the background?  Think I know them by heart.
This one is A Dog Named Christmas.....and then there will be Christmas with Tucker.

I made a casserole last night.....corn casserole.....to be sure it would be good for the family dinner.
Well....it really wasnt....I think because I put two of them together....so off I go to follow a recipe....lol.

Hi Monkeys.....

Not sure how cold it is in your neck of the woods, but the deep South was 18 degrees overnight.  I was feeling good about
my nice warm home until I found out that there are electrical outtages all around.  I do hope everyone who is out there is
warm, and your electricity is holding out.

No TV and no internet so I dug out the old MiFi....lol. 

This looks like it might be a good year.  Gas is under $2 a gallon.  Must be time for a road trip...!!!

It is bad when it is so cold.  There are a lot of vulnerable people in this weather.  This summer, we needed to replace our heat pump, it was really hot in the house until it was replaced, but every time I get out of the car to go in the house, I thank God that it died in the summer, because we would never have survived without heat in this weather.  My prayers go out to all who are cold and have nowhere to go.  I hope someone takes them in.

Have a good time planning your trip.  Be careful of the weather and keep your gas tank full.  Keep some blankets, scarves, hats, and gloves in your car.  Don't forget to have a good time!  It is always good to see you Mere.  It is nice to see you are happy in your new place, it was a big move.  I am in awe of how fast you got things put away in time for guests.

I once made a caramel pie for a get together.  It tasted terrible.  I never thought to try it before I presented it to other people.  I was so upset.  The woman whose house it was asked me if I had tried it first.  When I said, no, I had not thought to do that, she kindly explained to me that it would be better to try things before bringing them anywhere.  I was very young and believe me, I never made that mistake again.  You could not even pretend to like that pie.

The League City "killing fields" sit behind the Magnolia Creek Baptist Church on Calder Drive. Four female corpses were found here between 1983 and 1991, back when people dumped trash and building materials in the abandoned oil field. Tim Miller planted the first cross here around Christmas 1986, more than two years after his daughter, Laura Lynn Miller, disappeared after using a pay phone at a nearby convenience store. She was 16. Her body was found in the clearing in February 1986.

"They kept Laura's remains for three years before we could bury her," says Miller, 68, "so there wasn't a cemetery plot or headstone. That was Laura's little spot."

"I never wanted to start Equusearch," Miller confides. "I really didn't. I'd go out to that place on Calder Drive and I'd stand in front of her cross and break down and say, 'Laura, I can't come here anymore. I've got to get on with my life.' I'd be walking away, and I'd hear a voice that said, 'Don't quit, daddy.'"

Last September, the 30th anniversary of Laura's disappearance, Miller and his Equusearch volunteers wrapped the trees surrounding the crosses with gold ribbons tagged with the names of missing persons. The ribbons and tags still are here, weary survivors of the elements. Miller and his crew also planted crosses for the other three bodies found in clearing.

Heide Villareal Fye, a 25-year-old waitress and bartender, left her parents house in Dickinson on Oct. 7, 1983, to hitch a ride to Houston to see her boyfriend. The following April, her corpse was found in the clearing.

The other two bodies found here have never been identified; their crosses read Jane Doe and Janet Doe. But Mark Roland Stallings, already sentenced to life behind bars for a series of crimes, remains a prime suspect in the Janet Doe murder and two other murders in Fort Bend County.

Stallings was one of three men Casey interviewed in prison for her book. He told her he killed the woman now identified as Janet Doe, a teenage prostitute he strangled and dumped in the clearing.

"He was terrifying," says Casey, 64, who is married and lives in northwest Houston. "He's kept in a small prison in Woodville. He just sat there and in a very matter-of-fact tone told me why he murdered these women. He said these women didn't count. They didn't matter. He felt entitled, and he was unremorseful."

Kathy Mae Brownfield Goad
Missing Since November 11, 1982


Kathy was married to my brother's best friend.  They moved from here to Texas.  Her body has never been found.  They had a suspect but back then bringing a murder charge without a body just didn't happen.

I really don't know if Kathy's parents are still alive but if one or both are I know it would be a great relief to know what happened to her.  Most articles I read about her disappearance was the police were not very concerned with solving this case.  A local sheriff made several trips down there with a dog from a Pennsylvania policeman to see if he could find what lake her body was disposed in.

I know her disappearance happened before Tim's daughter was murdered but I have always wondered if he had ever handled anything with this case.

One more thing.  Both Kathy's parents are dead.  The detective from here, Glen Wood, is dead also.  Kathy was an only child.  It really doesn't look good that this will ever be solved.

Blue Moon.....I came looking for you....lol.  Friends are sending pictures.  It looks like everything is covered.  Hard to
tell where the streets are, and I am sure that only the major streets are plowed.  Wonder how the hospital staff
got in to work.

Tomorrow is Mardi Gras.  How my life has changed.....but I think of you often.

I just learned this afternoon how I am not a spring-chicken anymore.  My and hubby got out and shoveled the driveway.  I cleared a path from the garage to the road.  We waited until the plow truck came through before we started. Well I was so proud to make it to the end of the driveway (big accomplishment for an old person) and what happens-----the plow comes through on my side of the road and he was going so fast it threw the snow up in the air right back into the path I had just cleared.  Time to start over!!

Wednesday night it is supposed to get down to -11 degrees.  Now that is just plain cold.

The roads are a mess.  The interstate and the parkway is not clear and they have a state of emergency out for Kentucky.  Tennessee got freezing rain and sleet and it is perilous down there.  Of course no one around here knows how to drive in this.

Well good afternoon....Mardi Gras started in the 30s but no rain....so that counts as all good.
Bourbon Street and the Quarter are packed.  I know this because I watch TV....lolol.  I have bad knees and could
not make it into the Quarter without a walker....and the crowds would think that is my costume...!!!

I would like to ask my monkey friends if anyone can tell me about experience with total knee surgery.  I am facing
that next month....and I would love to begin some notes on what to do to get ready.

Blue Moon....I cant believe you were shoveling so much snow.  Could you just kill the snowplow man when he comes back right after you are finished.  I believe the movie is Snow Day.  I had it on in the background recently.  Your experience reminds me of that movie.  Dont go get it though...I think it is a one star movie.

 ::HelloKitty::Hi Blue Moon....I came in this morning to talk about the knee surgery and saw the notes about CBB.  I am praying for her.  She has been such a good friend over all these years.

I am on day 11 Knee Surgery and the pain is pretty awful.  Just pray that the prosthesis is in place.  Having difficulty walking,  I will be going to see doctor on Thursday and have x-rays done.

Hugs to all of you. 

Have thought a lot about you and the knee surgery.  Have you started physical therapy yet?  The pain will subside over time.  You are well on your way.  Will keep you in my thoughts.  Hopefully you will be as good as new soon.

Yes, I just went back and read a lot of CBB's posts.  The last was about Waylan and the progress he has made since coming into their lives.  It is so strange to have never met her at all but to feel like you know them personally.  I guess that is how it is with all our monkey friends.  Breaks my heart to see anyone go through such difficult times.

Take care, keep us updated on your progress.  You will be amazed at the progress you made one month down the road.

Me too!!  I have a dentist and eye apt over the next couple of days, then I think I might fly out there. 

Oh KCJackie that would be wonderful.  ::MonkeyKiss:: CBB and her family I am sure could use all the support they can get right now.

A friend of mine had knee replacement in January and is doing well now.  Driving and living her life.  She was in a lot of pain initially and had difficulty walking just a few feet to her ensuite bathroom.
My cousin has had his second knee surgery and is doing well. 
Sorry you are in pain and hope it subsides soon and you have a full and complete recovery.

Mere, I hope you get better day by day and the pain will subside soon.  Hope you have good news at the doctor Thursday.  This pain will get better over time and you will feel like a new person.  My sister has had both knees done and she travels the world now with her husband.  Her first one was bad---lots of pain.  Her 2nd one was a breeze because she was scheduled to go to Australia and she fought to get well and she had a quick recovery.  Good luck at the doctor, will be thinking of you.

Mere, praying that the pain will subside and you'll be good as new soon!  I have two friends that have gone through knee replacement surgery, one had quite a bit of pain at first but it didn't last too long and she's fine now.  She even went skydiving a few months ago, and made me a nervous wreck.  The other had both knees done at the same time, and was out on the golf course in record time.  But he's just crazy and tough, lol.

Hi monkeys......what a very long day, but the results were good.

Went into the city and had 30 staples removed, had the leg xrayed with good results.  The PA is very happy with the looks of the leg and so am I...!! 

Now for pain.....there is still swelling and pain on pressure.  I become exhausted so quickly.  One more week of inhouse
physical therapy.....and then on to out-patient.  Everyone says I will not remember this......like after childbirth....lolol.

Isn't modern medicine great? Daughter has gestational diabetes and hbp and was going into pre eclampsia. Baby due date is May 5 so she was 5 weeks early. The steroid shot worked at maturing her lungs. Mommas bp should go down and hopefully her diabetes goes away too.

Hi Monkeys.....I am so happy that CBB has been discharged, and I hope that she is feeling better.

Today is the fourth week after surgery on my knee.  I would not say that I am doing so well, but I hope to improve each day.

I slipped in my room and slid down on the carpet.....had to have two people help me up.  You know the TV ad...."I've fallen and I can't get up".   I would have laughed if I hadn't been crying....lol.  Later the same day, I had another incident with bending the knee too much. 

A man at rehab told me that he was three months post op and that "it just takes time".  He did say that the first month to six weeks is the toughest.  It is too funny to see that all "knees" are able to spot each other and all want to talk about their experiences.

Am transitioning now to out patient physical therapy for two months.

I personally think that prayers work.....so I would love to ask for prayers until I get up to speed.

Oh Mere, Prayers headed your way for a timely recovery. I have learned that we all are different in our ability to do things. Some heal faster than others.  I am sorry to hear you fail. At least you can laugh or giggle about it now. I am sure at the time you didn't think it was funny. One day at a time and you will get there.  ::MonkeyAngel::

Sorry you took a fall.  A reminder for sure, how fragile your knee and likely your balance, still is.  Glad you are not bruised and broken.   ::MonkeyAngel::

So sorry to hear about your slow recovery.  That man was correct, it does take time.  My mother sat and cried when they were doing her therapy and it was all I could do to stop myself from yelling at them to STOP IT NOW!  She never did get the full use of that knee because she had nerve damage before the surgery.  The 2nd knee replacement went rather smooth for her so even with the same person the results can be different.  You have to watch yourself and always have a cane or walker in front of you until you get the full use of that knee back.

Be careful and keep telling yourself every morning "One more day behind me".  I will keep you in my prayers for a speedy recovery.  Be safe!

Mere - Thinking of you and hope this past couple of weeks since we last heard from you, has
           brought substantial healing and advancement to your full recovery.   ::MonkeyAngel::

Well....today was six weeks post op and I went into the city to have my leg checked.  Got an A+ from
the P.A. who could not believe how well I was walking and how much I could flex and extend my leg......it was back to normal...... and she told me that I could stop PT unless I wanted to continue for strength purposes. 

I am walking now and using a cane for longer distances.
I will continue with PT and learn some new tricks....like climbing stairs to post office and going into Olive Garden....lol.  I do expect another six weeks of muscle strengthening.  They took x-rays of both legs.  It certainly shows the difference.

Okay....off to week 7 of total knee replacement.....

  ::HelloKitty::    This is a tough surgery, but it is getting so much better.  I am walking without assistance...although I keep the cane in the car in the event I see a curb that might need some help.

I have a small ice chest with Zip-loc bags right next to my bed.  Ice is just super for pain management. 

On the plus side, I have lost 30 pounds.  This really helps as I needed to knock off some extra weight.

At the height of pain management.....I was taking 1/2 pain pill about every 4 - 6 hours.  At the last doctor's visit, the
P.A. told me to change meds and go to a stronger dose and see if I could take one whole pill every 10 or so hours.
She was so right.  I now take one pill every 12 hours....and it works.

Of course, pain medicine is not good for staying "regular"....so I can speak on that subject also....lolol.

I feel pretty old for all of this, but I think it will be worth it.

You know, I haven't even bothered following the derby this year.  All I know is the traffic between here and Louisville is absolutely horrible.  I have never gone to the Derby (my parents would never allow it---too many wild parties in the in-field.   ::monkeywine2:: ::monkeywine2::
I have only been to Mammoth Cave once (when I was a freshman in high school).  Lots of great sights in Kentucky but I guess living within driving distance takes the fun out of a "road trip".

Hi Bud's Girl!  We haven't had any recent updates but she was very sick and in the hospital in ICU with a lung infection.  She got better finally and went home and last I heard she is doing OK but like I said, no recent updates.  I'm hoping no news is good news.

Just read we are done until tomorrow afternoon, then more nasty stuff coming in. One of the lakes was down something like 27 feet. It's now down maybe 3 feet. That is just in the last 2 weeks. It seems the Trinity river up here is flooding all over in Northern Texas. The whole state is getting hit. Hope all our Texas Monkeys are safe.

Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama are getting hit too. 

All you in the storm areas be safe.  Even my son in Colorado has had an unusual amount of rain.  Crazy!  I guess Texas and Oklahoma are the worst!

When it was realized how much water was coming, the emergency group tried to do reverse 911 calls to get people to evacuate.  For some, they couldn't get out or it was too late.  There were a lot of rooftop rescues once the weather allowed the helicopters to get in the air.  I feel so badly for the two families that are missing and their relatives.  It's not looking good for them.  I'm in an area that is much higher elevation, so the water hasn't been a problem, but the winds and such caused trees in the neighborhood to snap, to fall over, and there's a good amount of roof damage.  Most important though is there were no injuries in my neighborhood.  One of my son's lives in San Marcos and so far his home is safe.  We have more rain coming today.   ::MonkeyNoNo::

If the weather channel is right. Today should be the last day of rain here in Texas & Oklahoma for awhile. If their math is right about the amount of rain here. It's raining in my area in Texas right now.  I was hoping it would let up, so the searches along the Blanco River could continue...

Hoping to be able to have youngest grandson spend some time with us this summer. So proud of my second oldest granddaughter in California. She is going back to Haiti on her second missionary trip. She has blossomed into a loving caring young lady.

Hello Monkeys....been missing everyone.....

Have family in Katy and San Antonio and have been spending much time reading weather reports the past few weeks.  I do hope that everyone is okay.

Daughter is in Texas now.  She and hubs are attending wedding (soon), and daughter is decorating the wedding cake.
She told me she was going to go to Austin and then San Marcos and then San Antonio.  Of course the plans were made well before the rains, and I was worried about them.  Apparently the traffic in that area is awful, but the water was not a problem on the Interstates.  They are enjoying themselves..!

Would like you all to know that I am almost three months post-op total knee replacement and have been
to see surgeon this week.  Got an A+ on everything.  Seems to be better each week.....no cane or walker for some time now.....and I saw him tell the residents to look how well I was walking....lol.  He does want
me to use the Mederma scar cream ($25 a tube) and also to use sunscreen whenever I am out.  Poor man does not realize that I will probably keloid and that the red scar will be here forever....lol.  Anyhow....I do not see him again for three months.  The only thing I can say is that I do not have the same stamina I had before.....but hoping to improve.

GE I am so happy for your grandchildren.  Please let us know how GD does in Haiti.....and GS visiting you.
We never could go see anyone when we were kids as everyone lived within a few blocks of us....!  Maybe that is why I love to get in the car and go....whenever I can.  In fact, thinking of where the next road trip may take me.   ::HelloKitty::

We are planning our next road trip back out west.  Going to take highway 89 from Glacier National Park all the way down to Arizona.  It runs through 6 national parks from the border of Canada to the border of Mexico.  Can't wait. 

I was really worried about my cousins in Texas.  Emailed her and she finally responded a couple days later.  Said they were o.k. Both her and her father live at areas near lakes but she said because they had droughts the last couple of years they both are full now but not flooding.  Said that is the only thing that saved them.

Green Eyes, I know you have to be so proud of your GD.  In this day and age it is so refreshing to hear of young people doing so much good in this world.

What a morning. Took granddaughter to work and on the way home stopped to fill the gas tank in my car. Then I couldn't find my bank card.  ::MonkeyEek:: Came home dumped my purse out going though everything no card. Starting to panic just thinking about the hassle of cancelling and changing all my accounts. Trying to remember when I used it last. Thinking I hadn't used it since the beginning of the week. When duh I used at the gas station by the house to get hubs his beer & cigs last night. So I hopped back in the car and went to the station. As soon as I walked in the young man smiled and said we were wondering when you were going to come get it. Thank you Lord. Living in a small community as it's perks.   ::MonkeyCheer3::

That is such a horrible feeling!  Happened to me once too and luckily, I had just left it at a watch store I had been to the same day and the owner kept it safe for me.  What a relief you were able to get yours back!

Crystal Rogers, 35, was last seen July 3 by her boyfriend. He reported her missing from their Bardstown home two days earlier.

Police found her maroon Chevy Impala with a flat tire abandoned near the Bluegrass Parkway. Inside, police found her purse, keys and cellphone.

"Fox & Friends" reported Sunday that the boyfriend, Brooks Houck, has declared his innocence. He has taken a lie-detector test with inconclusive results.

Family and friends suspect foul play. Rogers' mother, Sherry Ballard, is among those who fears the worst................................................

Yes!  We have had constant fairly light rain here all day along with thunder and lightening.  They have evacuated several of the beaches in Southern California due to lightening strikes!  The rain is so needed! 

That said, I'm sure glad we didn't decide to go to Vegas this weekend!  Between that horrible fire on the 15 in the Cajon Pass and now the flash flood warnings in the San Bernardino area and Las Vegas area, it would have really been a mess!

That fire was horrific!  I can't imagine what it was like for people who had to leave their cars and run up or down that freeway just to escape the flames!

The fire was awful. By the Grace of God no one was hurt. I feel bad for the people facing the cost of getting their cars back after being towed off the freeway. The tow companies should be fined for their outrageous fees,  ::MonkeyNoNo::

It's comical how that story about the tow trucks has spread, when the original article even has a quote from the tow truck company saying they will be reimbursing everyone that they towed (9 cars).

So here's what happened.  The CHP called several tow truck companies in the area and asked for their help clearing the freeway.  It had to be done.  As you can imagine, normal regular employees may not have totally understood what to do and simply charged as they normally would.  It's being rectified.

I am glad to hear that the towing Company's going to reimburse the people they towed.

Thanks Klaas.  That's good to hear.  I have facebook but I don't like it.  I come from a large family and there is always one in the family that ruins it for all the others.  She takes FB too serious and gets mad and blocks/deletes us (me in particular) when we don't comment on her postings and pictures (she has over 2000 pics of all her worldwide travels).    I hate FB because some (like my sister) use it as a bragging tool.  I only use FB to keep in touch with my family members and best friend who all live out of state.

I feel the same way you do about Facebook.  I really don't care for it and spend very little time on it.  I also believe it's very intrusive and un-secure.  People post way more than they should about their lives on facebook IMO. 

These days, all social media especially Facebook and Twitter are crucial to get information out their about missing persons.

Hope all are doing okay. Prayers for all in need. I can't believe how fast summer is passing. Grandson here in North Texas starts back to school in a week. Grand children in California have already started back to school. Seems way to early for school to start. 

Between driving granddaughter to and from work, driving hubs to his doctors appointments. Had to call 911 a couple weeks ago, to take him to the ER as he couldn't breathe. Thank God he is okay, but scared me. Have had youngest grandson here with us most of the summer. Just because  ::MonkeyHaHa::

Good Morning all......went into the city for my 6 months post-op check-up on knee (total knee replacement) and received gold stars....lol.  To be truthful, I found it really tough at the beginning and now I dont think about the knee at all....unless the dog jumps up to play.  I saw the doctor look at the other knee, and I told him to just "forget it"....the right knee has been a winner, and I am walking up and down steps and doing so well, there is no need to have another.

Since I have been in the city for the doctor visits and also for the high school ladies luncheons, I have seen much of the renewal of the city which has taken place after Katrina.  I should take pictures next time
as the houses are now being built higher in areas near the levees....but the homes are beautiful.  This is
in the suburban areas.  I have not been into the inner city, but friends tell me that some parts are doing well and others not so much.

How is everyone now that kids are back to school.  It is cooler here after having days of 100+.  I think
October is our nicest month and it is right around the corner.  Today is sunny and 80 degrees and the A/C is off...!!!

I am cooking again, and today is a shrimp and crawfish etouffee.  I also copied a recipe for "the best potato soup ever".  It is a large batch, and I dont think potato soup will freeze well, so I will be adjusting
it.

Does anyone have any recipes that are "the best"?

It's a little cooler here but not much, still have the a/c on full blast.   ::MonkeyHaHa:: 

We had one really nice breezy day when it wasn't hot at all, but that's it.  Back to hot and humid, and just enough rain to make it more humid.

One of our favorites for when it does cool off is taco soup.

I use about a pound and a half of ground chuck, brown it with a chopped onion and minced garlic.  Drain.  Add a can of (pureed) whole peeled tomatoes, and a can of rotel tomatoes and stir, add a taco seasoning packet and a packet of Hidden Valley Ranch Original Dressing Mix, and stir real good.  Then I add a can of (I drain and rinse these) black beans, red kidney beans, and shoepeg corn.  Let simmer until it comes to a good boil, and it's ready to eat.  We like it with cornbread or corn chips.

It's been a long summer here. Just busy with family with one thing or another.  My youngest son is coming for a visit in Nov. Just a short one will be here on a Thursday evening and leave Sunday morning. Looks like we will be having our Thanksgiving early this year.

Hi Green Eyes.....speaking of Thanksgiving....lol....some family members have hinted about Thanksgiving, but I told them about the absolutely wonderful buffet at the local french restaurant.  It seems so worth it except that there are no left overs for turkey gumbo.  I went with DD and SIL last year.  Maybe roast a turkey sometime during the holidays and then bring batches of gumbo to family party.

There has been too much news for this old lady.  Oregon was/is awful.  I am praying for those children and their families.  I am not sure of the answer. 

And then there is politics round the clock for months on end.

I finally began looking for something else and ended up with "Doc Hollywood"....and now the "Parent Trap".....and then "Grumpier Old Men".  It begins to matter not that I know all the words to these movies....lol.

I had handed over the Holiday cooking to daughter a couple years ago. But with hubs health it's easier now for me to cook and for them to come here. The buffet sounds good. That way you can spend time visiting.

We seem to have gone from summer right into winter.  I love the fall, hope we get to enjoy some of the nice fall weather before the white stuff is upon us.  How is the weather where you live?

I just got home from Mammoth Cave Natl. Park, checking on the trees changing color. Not so much.  Drove back by the lake here and the trees were ablaze with color.  I don't know what the difference were in locations cause they are not much over 20 miles apart.  I love the trees changing colors.  But I always spring more.  My mums this year are beautiful and full.

Flibanserin, the first and only medication available for use in reproductive aged women with low libido, becomes commercially available this week after a rocky and controversial road that led to its FDA approval Aug. 18. The view on the medication whose brand name is Addyi (pronounced ADD-EE) ranges from a historical achievement in women's health care to an epic failure of commercialized medical propaganda. Despite the lengthy debate that has surrounded flibanserin, what most people want to know is whether it will help their sex life or not now that it is here.

I am not sure what the difference is either, except maybe they were different kind of trees.  I love the trees changing color also and the hope of a new school year.  I also love spring and the warmer weather coming out of the harsh winter.  I love to watch the flowers peeping out of their hiding places.

Son came for his visit had a wonderful time. We had our Thanksgiving last Sat. We all ate way to much. It was so much fun having everyone together. Laughed so much at their silly banter. Hi friends...going out today to get the last of the Thanksgiving items.  This is not my year to have it at the house.  This year is Texas...!!!  So I am bringing appetizers and snacks....and a couple of bottles of wine.
Will be driving over....maybe 6 hours....depending on whether it is possible that Houston could still have highways under construction....lol....!!!

A police report obtained by WBKO has listed the cause of Gabbi Doolin's death as strangulation and drowning.

It explains that police made contact with Madden at his home the night of the crime. From there he agreed to be swabbed and turn over his clothes to police.

The report said those were the clothes he was wearing Saturday night at the football game.

The report also explains that Madden's bond has been set at $1,000,000.




I can't find the charges against him but he was charged with: Rape, Sodomy, Kidnapping and Murder.  He has 5 children of his own-a girl who was a cheerleader with little Gabbi, a son who plays soccer with Gabbi's brother, and he went to school with Gabbi's father.  They moved him from the Allen County jail to the Barren County jail-probably safer for him right now.  The comments on Facebook (WBKO) are like a lynch mob.

Lots of snow in our area. I think we got around 12 inches..hubs and I look at each other over coffee this morning and say, why the hell do we live in Illinois lol..
Can't remember the last time I was here. Doing lots of things with grand daughters..traveling and spending way too much time on face book. Most of my friends are on there too and we end up doing too much chatting. Fb makes it easy cause we post and friends see it and comment. Saves texting and calling each other lol.

I honestly stay away because reading and hearing about all the mean things that happens to children was getting me down. Then after Casey got off from murdering her daughter I really lost faith in the court systems and jury's decisions.  I still follow some cases but not like I used to.
I miss talking with everyone here though! I need to check in here more often!

I had a wonderful day with many family members.  Lots of cooking, lots of stories, much fun with the kids....

Part of the group is going shopping....and a few of us are "doing genealogy".

I am doing genealogy tonight.  Had to take a break from it.  How does an entire family disappear after the 1900 census?  I have looked everywhere and cannot find a single one of them.  Frustrating.

This weekend I'm working on my ornaments.  I have 18 painted and another 24 ready to paint.  Then I'll write each person/childs name on them then spray varnish.  Obviously, this years theme is Minions, LOL. I've been making ornaments for my family every year since the 80's (flour, salt,water).  This year I have to make approximately 40!:

My normal ornament is a Christmas bear.  But I have done Cabbage Patch, Christmas Moose, Elves, Alf, I'm sure I'm forgetting others.  Here is last years elf:

I have 24 Minions to paint today.  Then I have to personalize each then spray varnish, let dry then package for shipping.  I have an OLD Seal a Meal (from the 70's) I use to make envelope/pockets out of bubble wrap.  I put each ornament in it's own pocket, staple it closed and put one of those small bows and a name tag on it.  It's a long process.   ::ElfMonkey::

Making these ornaments is great fun for the kids.  Here are the directions:

2 cups flour
1 cup iodized salt
1 cup water (or coffee to tint the dough)

Mix or sift together the flour and salt completely.  SLOWLY add the water a little at a time while stirring.  You might need a little less or a little more water depending upon the humidity.  Note:  you don't want the dough to be too sticky.  KNEED the dough just like you would for bread dough until smooth.  Put in a plastic bag.  You can store it in the refrigerator for a day or two but any longer and it gets too sticky to work with.  It's easiest to work with at room temperature.

Working on the cookie sheet you are going to bake them on, shape into desired shapes.  I roll balls then flatten, etc.  OR, you can use a rolling pin and cookie cutters but that's cheating, LOL  ::DancingSantaMonkey1:: ::snowmanlaugh::  You can use toothpicks or other things to make impressions in the dough.  For the Minions I used the end of a sharpie to make the round eyes for the glasses so I'd have a better chance at making them uniform and round.

Once you are finished with your shape, take cutters and cut a paper clip in half and place in the top of the ornament for a hanger.  Put in the oven at about 265 degrees or so until hard, about 2 hours, depending upon your oven.  Take out and let cool.

Remove from cookie sheet and paint with desired paints.  You don't have to varnish, they will be fine without varnish.  I use water base Craftsmart paint from Michaels but any water base paint will work fine (you should see how much paint and how many brushes I have, LOL).

If you are going varnish, hang on a metal hanger and take outside to varnish.  I use Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane Clear Gloss but Krylon or any urethane will work.  Let dry completely before handling or packaging.

P.S.  It's actually harder than it looks BUT it is a blast.  I did it with my grand daughter a couple weeks ago and she had so much fun.  She made a Mickey Mouse face.  ::MonkeyReindeer::

Ryan Christopher came safely into the world last night.  He is beautiful.

Thank you for your prayers for Baby Eric.  I am not understanding how a healthy baby goes from healthy to very ill so quickly.  I saw it happen to my son after he was born.  He caught something in the hospital and ended up on a respirator and I still can't believe this happened.

Hope all those monkeys who have had weather problems are doing well now.  I am watching the lower Mississippi.
They will open the spillway on Sunday to relieve any additional pressure on the levees.  And then the fishermen are
trying to get there crabs and shrimp out of the water before the spillway opens.  I had not thought about anything but the levees......but now I read that the large ships may be affected also.....in moving and docking.

I know that some of us are interested in genealogy.  I will be having coffee with two second cousins next week.  The three of us are the great grandchildren of the same great grandparents.  We are bringing iPads and intend to share.
There is so much available on line now.  Will let you know how this goes.... :smt054

Happy New Year everyone!

Well reporting back on the genealogy ladies coffee.

You know this felt something like meeting someone from Craigslist.  You are supposed to meet in a public place in the
daytime, etc.  While I could see that the two ladies, according to Ancestry, were cousins, I also am skeptical of
meeting strangers.....but......the day was beautiful.....and the three of us were driving about an hour to a central point to meet for coffee at La Madeleine's. 

The other two already knew each other.  I knew the color of one car, and the picture of both of them, and they knew I had on a red sweater.  It turned out to be a really nice time.  One husband came along as that couple was going to be going into the city.  We shared information on iPads or small laptops.

They are both so far ahead of me, but I really enjoyed seeing what was important to them.  There are wonderful
cemeteries that are above ground in our area, and I have been invited again to either coffee or to "do a cemetery run" where you identify relatives and take pictures of these beautiful old graves.

I wish I had started sooner....lol.... ::HelloKitty::

This is my 26 year old Red Maple tree today.  The limbs are bowed over by 3/4" of ice before the 13" of snow.  I don't know if the tree will make it and it's the only one in the yard that did this.

Mere, I work on my Genealogy family a lot.  I never realized when I started this how time consuming it is.  I use Family Treemaker and they just announced they are eliminating the software by Jan 2017 so I have a year to move all my records over to a new software.  Not going to be easy as there are 17 years worth of records in there (backups are done regularly because of so much info and records).  I have met several "cousins"  in the past few years doing this.  We have become good friends with a couple from Michigan, a cousin from Oregon, and a family from Texas, Florida and Delaware.  I have really enjoyed meeting them and getting to know them.  As for visiting old graves, my husband will not go with me anymore to visit old cemeteries.  I have no shame when it comes to getting into old cemeteries---I climb over fences, I have to remove electric fence gates to get through, I have to watch out for copperhead snakes.  He said it is too dangerous going with me anymore. But I enjoy it.

I think everyone who works with, lives with, loves, or is related to a teen should know what is happening with our kids online. They may be inviting strangers into our homes in real time, and worse, recording themselves; these videos can be saved by strangers forever.  They are walking through houses showing potential thieves what you have and worst of all, they are opening up ways that predators can see your teen, where they live, what they do, where they go to school, etc.  The  filmers are not (usually) doing this to hurt you or themselves, they are only thinking about the demographic they are targeting or maybe the girl(s)/boy(s) they are looking to impress watching them.  I remember when Britney Spears was younger and wearing sexy outfits.  She said something along the lines of I want the 18 year old guys looking at me, but I don't want 40 year old men looking at me.  If you put something up for public display, it does not discriminate between those you want looking at it and those you don't.

Kelly Jarrett said her daughter Emily recently connected with strangers from all over the world on a website called YouNow.

“I was blindsided,” Jarrett said.

Emily received more than 400 comments from people, including random men who complimented her looks.

One of those men friend requested Jarrett on Facebook, and that is how she found out what her daughter was doing in the bedroom.

“It scared me on levels that I did not want to be frightened on,” Jarrett said.

YouNow is just one of many tools for live-streaming. Facebook recently introduced live-streaming to all of its users.

 

That's wonderful, Mere.  We are friends with 5th+ cousins on both my Mother and Father's side of the family.  Our family is very close and just never lost contact with each other.  My third cousin was my Maid of Honor at my wedding, I was also in her wedding and am Godmother to her first child and she is Godmother to my second child.  The children are now friends and it goes on...

Thank you for all your wishes for Eric, my Great Nephew who passed away from meningitis.  It threw us for a loop, not only because of his age of 11 months, but we also lost my Father 2 months before that.  We lost the oldest and youngest member of the family within 2 months.  As soon as Eric passed, my DIL went into labor.  Eric was my Brother and SIL's only Grandchild and my Niece and NIL's only child.  They are devastated.  Feelings are all over the place.  I feel guilty about being happy about Ryan with members of my family so very sad about their baby.

Eric has done more in his lifetime than many of us will.  He saved three lives with his organs.  He raised $30,000. in the first 2 days after he passed, and at the same time raised money for contagious diseases.  His fund is now joining with the county where he lives to build a playground in his name.  Our family is still devastated, but we have something positive to focus on.

Please, be an organ donor. 

I was talking to a man tonight who was originally from Africa and is now a US citizen after many years.  He said at first he did not feel right about donating his organs, but after some thought and some time passed, he felt it was the right thing to do.  Some people feel that they cannot donate organs because of their religious affiliations.  I urge you to go to a leader in your faith community who you trust and ask that person what the current teachings of your denomination are.  You may find their views have changed.  That is what happened to this man.  He is now very excited to be an American after many years.  He wanted this badly so his daughter could get a good education, and he is also proud to have 'organ donor' written on his driver's license.

Don't take your organs to heaven, heaven knows we need them here.

This little girl lived less than a block from where I lived at the time.  This case is so sad for this family.  I wish our local station had put up the video interview that was done with Morgan's mother and her 2 sisters--it was heartbreaking what this family has gone through knowing after 19 years that they will never know who or why their daughter/sister was murdered.  We had left for vacation the day she was abducted and all I could think to do was look at every van on the interstate to see if Morgan was in one.  This little girl was so innocent and so young to have had her life taken away from her family.  After 19 years it is safe to say her murderer will never be found.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - "It's a haunting case because it's such a horrific tragedy. I think we all put ourselves in the place 'what if it were my child' and as a community, it just drilled down to the core that this could actually happen in Bowling Green, Kentucky."

That's how former Bowling Green Police Chief, Bill Waltrip described Morgan Violi's case. It all began just after noon on July 24, 1996.

"Morgan and another little girl were walking from a play area that they had just inside some woods back towards Morgan's apartment when the perpetrator grabbed Morgan, put her in a van, and drove off with her," said FBI Special Agent Dick Glenn, the agent assigned to Morgan's case.

"I heard the scream, I came around. He was just sitting in the van. He smiled and the other little girl was running through the apartment buildings and I didn't ... I thought they were playing," said Morgan's oldest sister, Heather Coleman, who saw the kidnapping occur.

7-year-old Morgan Violi had been taken from the yard in front of her Bowling Green apartment complex in broad daylight.

"I'm the oldest. I told her go put on her shoes. And that was the last time I ever saw her," Heather told WBKO.

It was the same area her two older sisters were playing in at the time.

"When it first happened I just went to bed on my own and thought it was a bad dream, but you wake up and there's cops everywhere, strangers," Heather said....................................

Hi all and thanks for the weather warnings....the university has closed and daughter is on the Interstate coming home from work in southern
Mississippi. 

The street in my circle is flooded as are the ditches, but the lawns are okay so far.  My real worry is the flooding of rivers and streams.  I do have one behind me....a stream....and it was way down yesterday, but we have had a fair amount of rain.

 The dog is answering every thunder or lightning with a bark, so it can get loud....lol.  ::germanshep:: The local river is flooding and the campgrounds have been evacuated.

Anderson Cooper had a repeat of his CNN coverage of Katrina today.  Now that was a horror.....this is just "weather".

I don't know if any of you have ever had the need to check on electrical or cable outtages......but www.entergy.com and www.charter.net will show you
exact outtages.....when they occurred and when they are expected to come back on. 

As a child of the 1949 hurricane in NO, Dad had all of us in a small hallway that had four doors.  We each had a door to hold on to as the wind whipped
the house.  That is my first weather memory, but there were so many more.  While I am working on my family tree, I am writing these "stories".


Next subject......total knee replacement.....coming up to the one year anniversary and doing extremely well.  Walking up and down stairs, etc.
If you are faced with the same surgery, do your homework first.....on surgeon, hospital, therapy, etc. It has been worth it...... ::HelloKitty::

Five people have been killed in Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana since the deluge began earlier this week, and the heavy rain promises not to let up for at least another day.

More than 20 inches of rain has already fallen in some places, the Weather Channel reported. In all, some areas will receive two feet of rain by the time the storm winds down Friday, the National Weather Service said.

In addition to Louisiana, the hardest-hit state where three deaths occurred, parts of Arkansas, western Tennessee and southern Illinois will also be drenched by locally heavy rain into Friday, according to the weather service.

Good Morning.....I am fine so far, but there is flooding in many areas with lots of electrical outtages.  TV just said we had
10 - 16 inches of rain.  People are out in boats on residential streets assisting with evacuating families who are flooded.
There are 50 closed streets just in my town/area.

Remember that little stream behind me....lolol.....it has flooded some areas that are lower than I am.  Bet most of you don't know
that I am "high" at 9 feet above sea level....!!!  If you have a GPS, you can use it to determine whether your area is above or below sea level....and this can change from block to block.  It is a good thing to know about when you are looking for a home.

I feel so fortunate as I have electricity and cable and very little water on my street.  This should be over soon.

Hi all.....much has happened in the area.....rain, thunderstorms, and flooding of the rivers and streams in four parishes in southern louisiana.   The weather channel says that the rain level is 20 inches over three days.  The rivers are flooding some of my favorite little towns and some nice rural areas.

I thought I could take a break today and drive to the grocery, but the rivers are still collecting rainwater and many will crest over the next 24 hours.  The small river behind the house has flooded the street leading to this subdivision.

The good news....no loss of electricity or cable.

Fingers crossed.....this should be over by Sunday evening.   ::HelloKitty::

Glad you're still hi and dry but sucks that you can't drive to the grocery store.  Hopefully by tomorrow the water will recede enough so you can get out.  They keep talking about El Nino in California but so far it looks like other states have gotten it much worse than us.  We had a huge downpour yesterday for about 10 minutes but that was it!  Today it's sunny and beautiful!  ::stpats::

Klaas you guys need the rain for sure. But in Southern Calif. most of it just runs off and into the ocean. They need it a little bit at a time so it can soak into the ground and not just run off. I know up North in the Sierras they have a large snow pack which should help some.  But I don't think the local mountains have much. At least my sons haven't said much about them.  Some times I really miss the weather out there.  ::stpats::

Hello to all monkey friends.....
I recently heard from a classmate who heard that I had died and was looking for my daughter to tell her how sad she was.....lolol.  I guess there is someone with a similar name.  We classmates really do keep up with each other.  The group eats out together every three months, and some of us even more often. 

Have you ever had the experience of meeting up with people you have not seen in 50 years and can pick up right where you left off...???  Every now and then someone from California or New York or Washington will drop in to one of
these lunches.....and the conversation is remembered and resumed.  I love it.

(This if off topic, but I do need your help with treatment for a cold...cough....nausea, etc.
Just so you know....I am taking Mucinex liquid (maximum strength), Dimetapp, Delsym, Excedrin in a sort of rotating basis....and none of it more than allowed.  Right this very moment (3:02 am) I am awake and sitting in bed as I cannot sleep in a flat position.  The coughing gets so awful.  Last night was the recliner.  I figure I am about close to a doctor visit.  Does anyone have a miracle drug for colds and coughs?)

Before I go I would like seahorse to know how much I appreciate the political thread.  I have learned a lot...!!!

Shout out to Mere!!  I hope you're feeling better by the time you see this post.  Coughing isn't only annoying, it an also cause a rise in blood pressure, so be careful.  I don't have a miracle drug that's over the counter, but I do know sometimes doctor's will prescribe medication with hydrocodone in it to suppress coughing. One of my brothers was coughing a lot, and the doc prescribed cough meds with hydrocodone and it seemed to really work.   Believe it or not, my vet prescribed it for my elderly dog that suffered from congestive heart failure.  He would cough (actually it sound liked throat clearing) because his heart was enlarged and pressing up his esophagus.  I would give him a 10 mg tab as needed. 

Hydrocodone can be very effective, but with some of the new laws, it is hard to get because there have been folks that abused it, and it's ruined it for those that need it. 

I hope you get some relief soon, Mere.

I'm so sorry you're sick, Mere!  Hope you were able to get some rest today, and are better soon.  It sounds like you're doing some good things, but if you're not better maybe you should go in to the doctor.  I know you already know to drink a lot of fluids while taking the mucinex, and that chicken noodle soup has magical powers too, lol.

P. S.  I recently reconnected with some long lost cousins because someone told me their mother had passed away.  I was very relieved to find that it wasn't their mom; it was their mom's sister in law with the same name.

Delsym is strongest for cough.
Mucinex liquid tastes nasty.
Excedrin makes you feel better.

Smart water with flip top works best to prevent spills....lol.

It actually hurts to cough and feels like it is coming from my toes. 

My real wish is to go to sleep tonight and wake up all well...!
