Today is the 919th day since Dylan was murdered. 

Almost two years since his partial remains were found on the side of Middle Mountain, in an area Mark can see from his front door.

It takes an especially cruel individual to do what has been done, and is being done here.   

Dylan deserves a proper burial, and justice.  He and his loved ones deserve peace.

It is May 30, 2015. TWO years ago today, Mark sent this text to Elaine after he harvested what he could of his son’s remains: "98%, Dots are together.....as many time you burned me you thought I was ashes.....WRONG........you introduced me to Papa Roach .... soooooo BURN!!!!!!!!!!! June 2, 2013, cocky Mark tells Tricia Griffith, after being spotted on Middle Mountain in May 2013: "I've been up on Middle Mountain several times driving through there, trying to see if there's any particular area that kinda stands out to me. It's a road about 10 miles long up into the back country, so I mean it's very heavily wooded...there's a million little side cutoffs for ya know ATV type vehicles and motorcycles er hiking trails and things like that, so there's a lot of land here that we're talking about to cover...ya know nothin specifically jumps out at me and that but ya know there have been locations throughout...cuz right now you can only get so far up, um it wasn't until recently that I realized that they even had a gate up there, but at this point in the year there's still snow up there in the higher portion of this road, so they don't even have the gates open to be able to get up there. Now I do know in communicating with law enforcement that they've been up there and that's how I know this n that but ya know I don't know exactly where to look so I mean I get out and I can wander around and I can look and do whatever...but ya know the canine team...

On June 23, 2013, a few bones of Dylan are found. No backpack, no cell phone, no hat. LE did not describe Dylan’s remains as only 2 percent. But Mark sure did.

Jun 27, Mark tells FOUR different media: "Ninety-eight percent of Dylan is scattered about the countryside," said Redwine, his voice trembling in an interview Thursday night. (Denver Post).

"It's extremely difficult," Dylan's father Mark Redwine told 7NEWS by phone. "Based on the conversation I had with law enforcement yesterday, they've only found two percent - or approximately two percent - of his remains. That means there's 98 percent of my son still strewn about the countryside."

And to Action 7 News: “They got 2% of his remains. That means 98% of him is still scattered out in them trees somewhere.”

And to People, Jul 8: "Where's the remaining 98 percent of my son?" Redwine asks, his voice cracking. Police told him wild animals likely ravaged the rest.

He knew the gates would close shortly after he extinguished the life of his youngest son and put him by the crook in the road, within eyesight of his cabin porch, under a log, marked by a rock and cliff, on middle mountain.

In my heart of hearts I feel that if a child has an aversion for visiting a certain parent, they should not be forced to go.  I am not sure that could ever be done because one spouse may say things to a child that would make him not want to go to another spouse because the first spouse made things up about the second spouse that are just not true and harmful to the relationship.  Surely, when a child does not want to go to a parent's home because of fear, they should remain where they are until a counselor speaks with the child and sorts it all out.  If this is not possible, at the very least there should be someone appointed to remain with the parent at all times while the child is in the presence of those they are fearful of.  In the case where a child cannot speak, the child should remain where they feel most comfortable or should be accompanied by a court appointed guardian at all times when with the parent the child does not want to be with until they can speak.

Bearly, "forced" visitation is not in the best interest of the child.  As you pointed out, some parents will purposely poison the minds of their children.  You are correct, supervision should happen -- what is the best interest for the child --

Two years and two days after her son's partial remains were found on Middle Mountain, Elaine Hatfield Redwine filed a wrongful death lawsuit against her ex-husband, Mark Redwine.

Hatfield filed the complaint for wrongful death and loss of consortium on Monday, June 29, in District Court in Durango.

The complaint said their son, Dylan Redwine, was visiting his father on a court-ordered visit on Nov. 18, 2012, when he disappeared. A massive search ensued, involving community members and local, state and federal investigators. On June 27, 2013, some of Dylan's remains were found approximately three miles from Redwine's home in Vallectio.

A parent in Colorado has the duty to provide proper parental care for a child, the lawsuit states. Mark Redwine breached that duty "when his conduct resulted in the death of their son, Dylan Redwine," the suit stated.

It continues, "the death of Dylan Redwine was the proximated and direct result of the negligence of defendant."

Hatfield also has suffered the loss of consortium with her son and suffered damages from that, the suit stated.

In the lawsuit, Hatfield asks that she be compensated for damages, costs and fees, and she also requested a 12-member jury if the suit should go to trial.

The criminal investigation into Redwine's disappearance also is continuing, according to Lt. Dan Bender, a spokesman for the La Plata County Sheriff's Office.

"I have no new information to release at this time," Bender wrote in an email response to a request for an update on the case. "However, there are several activities that have taken place recently and investigators are putting a lot of effort forward and planning additional actions in the coming weeks."

Dylan Redwine, who was 13 when he disappeared, was on a court-ordered visit with his father for Thanksgiving in 2012. Mark Redwine lives on County Road 500 north of Vallecito. Dylan was raised in Bayfield and had moved that summer with his mother to Monument, near Colorado Springs. Law enforcement confirmed that Mark Redwine picked up his son at the La Plata County Airport on the evening of Nov. 18, they went to Wal-Mart and McDonald's in Durango, and that Dylan was at his father's house that evening. He texted some friends in Bayfield that night and made arrangements to meet with them the next day. The next morning, Mark Redwine told investigators he had to do some errands in Durango, and his son wouldn't wake up, so he left him sleeping on the couch. Redwine said when he returned that afternoon, Dylan was not home. He contacted his son's friends, who said they hadn't seen him, then he texted his ex-wife, asking if she had heard from home. She contacted the Bayfield Marshal's Office.

Hatfield, fiancee Mike Hall and her eldest son, Cory Redwine, then left the Front Range for Bayfield and began searching for Dylan, joined by family friends and numerous community volunteers.

Law enforcement joined in a few days later. At the heighth of the search, local police and sheriff's agencies, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation were involved.

No trace of him was ever found until some of his remains, reportedly bones from his foot, were discovered 18 months later by police and volunteers searching Middle Mountain. They were often on their hands and knees and using ropes to climb in the steep terrain.

Elaine Redwine, who now uses her maiden name, previously blamed her ex-husband for their son's death.

In November of 2013, before a memorial service for her son was held at Pine Valley Church, she said she thought Mark Redwine had killed Dylan.

"Yes, I always have from day one, when he was missing," she said in an interview with the Times. "Those who know me, who knew Mark, who knew my boys, knew that as well."

The complaint was filed by Amber Harrison of Durango, who has been Hatfield's attorney since 2008 and handled her divorce.

"I cannot comment on any other specific details, other than those in her complaint," Harrison said. But if more information becomes available from investigators, "we will certainly be amending or modifying the complaint."

Reached on his cell phone on Wednesday afternoon, Mark Redwine said he had not heard about the lawsuit.

"Good luck with that," he said. "We'll all see how it turns out for her."

Redwine said he was not in Vallecito, but declined to say where he was.

"Don't bother asking me, and I have nothing more to say to you," he said before hanging up. "Have a nice day."

La Plata County Sheriff’s Office investigators said Wednesday that they have identified a “person of interest” in the Dylan Redwine case after a former FBI criminal profiler was hired to help create a behavior analyses.

“It’s a fair statement that we are very encouraged that we have crossed the bridge from the unknown to the known,” said Pete Klismet, who retired from the FBI after decades with the agency.

Investigators declined to name the person.

Investigators also said they have found “items of interest” after conducting a search on Middle Mountain Road, where Dylan’s remains were found eight months after he went missing Nov. 19, 2012, from his father’s house near Vallecito Reservoir.

Until now, investigators have not named any person of interest or suspect. On Wednesday, they were firm in saying that they do not yet have a suspect.

Saying that they have a person of interest and found notable items during a search in early June give the case momentum it has not had since the teen’s remains were found.

“There is a level of excitement right now that has not been previously felt before,” Klismet said.

Investigators say based on what they found during the search last month, more searches are planned.

DURANGO - Investigators have identified a person of interest in the murder of 13-year-old Dylan Redwine.

The La Plata County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday that Peter former FBI profiler Peter Klismet helped investigators create a behavior analysis that led to a person of interest, whom authorities have declined to name.

Klismet was brought on six months ago to review evidence with a fresh perspective. He declined to give any details about the person of interest or the profile that he help develop. He stopped short of calling this person a suspect.

"There's a distinction between a person of interest and a suspect, and we are at the person of interest stage right now," Klismet said. "I have done a lot of these. I have not been wrong on any of these over the past number of years, and I'm not wrong about this one."

"Items of interest" were also collected from a search in June on a desolate side of Middle Mountain where the boy's remains were found in 2013. Dylan was last seen at his father's home in Vallecito in November 2012. Vallecito is about 30 miles east of Durango.

From the very beginning, Dylan's mother, Elaine Redwine, believed Mark Redwine, the boy's father, had something to do with the disappearance of their son.

A La Plata County spokesperson could not say if anyone was notified of the current development, but said he assumes the person knows he or she is considered a "person of interest" in the case.

A person of interest has been identified and a wrongful death lawsuit has been filed in the November 2012 disappearance of Dylan Redwine.

The La Plata County Sheriff's Office tells KRDO NewsChannel 13 that the person of interest, whose name has not been released, has been identified over the past couple of weeks.

Retired FBI agent Pete Klismet of Colorado Springs was brought in to help with the investigation.

"We really feel like we have made some progress and we feel like we have gotten to the point that we are optimistic about where we are going now," said Klismet.

Dan Bender with the La Plata County Sheriff's Office tells KRDO NewsChannel 13 that this potential break in the case happened in early June during a search of the area where Redwine's remains were found. He says "items of interest" were found during that search, though he declined to go into detail.

Bender says the person of interest was identified after Klismet, who has more than 30 years experience as a criminal profiler, reviewed existing evidence in the case along with the newly found evidence.  Klismet said bringing in a fresh set of eyes proved to be extremely beneficial in this case.

"We have gone from really not knowing who might have been a person of interest in this case to the point where we are saying yes, we feel very confident in having one," said Klismet.

As for what's next? Bender said additional searches and interviews will be conducted. He says the person of interest will not be named a suspect until there is probable cause to do so.

Redwine, from Monument, was visiting his father in Vallecito for the Thanksgiving holiday when he disappeared. His remains were found the following summer.

Dylan's disappearance was always suspicious, imo.   I will never forget the feelings of shock, sadness and anger when his partial remains were discovered, nor will I forget the feelings I had as the photos and description of the very isolated and difficult to reach areas where some of his remains were found. 

Dylan should be like so many other teens enjoying summer.  Maybe he would have a part time job, learning to drive, dating.  His life was ahead of him until it was taken away.  My heart breaks for his mother and brother. 

I truly hope there will be answers coming forth soon, and there will be justice for Dylan.

I often think about this picture of Dylan, having fun with his Mutti and cousin Kaitlynn and Cody, during his last summer on this earth.  He should be having fun this summer too, Jace should know his Uncle Dylan's loving touch, Kaitlynn and Cody's precious little boy should too.  So much was stolen from this family, so many happy memories that were to be made...erased. 

Dylan deserved so much more, he had his whole life ahead of him.   ::MonkeyTears::

I'd like to thank everyone on this site for their positive comments and encouragement. While the media makes it look like I'm responsible for this development, I'm only a cog in the wheel. None of you can imagine all of the work the Sheriff's Office has done, and the voluminous amount of reports I was presented in January. There was a lot of work involved, and analysis, but the LPSO made it easy.....well, maybe not 'easy,' but they have done an incredible amount of work. I've been involved or in law enforcement for 45 years, and have never seen the equal of professionalism LPSO has displayed and the quality of work they've done. Rest assured that we have made some significant progress at this juncture, and are not even close to stopping. Again, thank all of you and we hope to have some more encouraging news within the next several months. There remains a lot of work to do. And.....I only have one boss in this case. His name is Dylan Redwine!

Mark Redwine told the reporter the wrongful death lawsuit sounds like a frivolous attempt to make something happen.

IMO, "frivolous" would more adequately describe the last court case Mark brought against Elaine (since Dylan's partial remains were found) where he tried to sue her for damages he'd already collected on from insurance.  IIRC, his initial claim was for over $20,000, when it was all said and done he was awarded $70 for a garage door opener that Elaine failed to leave behind when she and Dylan moved to Monument.

'Person Of Interest' Identified In Redwine Case

A person of interest has been identified in the Dylan Redwine case.

Dylan was just 13 years old when he disappeared from his father's home outside Durango just before Thanksgiving in 2012. His remains were found along a rural road in the San Juan National Forest in June 2013, seven months after he vanished. Middle Mountain Road is frequently used for hiking and off-roading, but is rendered inaccessible in winter months due to snow. Dylan's body was found after dozens of law enforcement and search and rescue personnel combed the mountain over a five-day period looking for clues previously hidden by snow.

The La Plata County Sheriff's Office told 11 News that new evidence was discovered after two recent searches near the location where Dylan's remains were found two year earlier. Investigators worked with Pete Klismet, a former FBI profiler from Colorado Springs.

Klismet told 11 News he can not reveal the name of the person of interest, but investigators have made contact with him or her. They are not ready to call this "person of interest" a suspect until they do more searching for evidence on Middle Mountain Road near where Dylan's body was found.

Klismet added he's done a number of cases like this in the past and he's never been wrong--and says he's not wrong now.

11 News talked to Dylan's aunt Wednesday night. She told us his mom left her Monument home earlier Wednesday for Vallecito. She says investigators did not tell the family who their "person of interest" is. We asked the sheriff's office if it was someone they had in mind all along or if it was a new person, but they wouldn't say.

Hundreds of people assisted with search efforts in the weeks following Dylan's disappearance, but no leads were found. Winter arrived soon after, hindering efforts until the snowfall melted.

Investigators say the place where Dylan's remains were found was not a place he would have gone on his own.

"Dylan had a very set routine. He was a very communicative fellow on the Internet and Twitter with his friends. And he had very specific definite plans with his friends and he never showed up for that...it's totally unlike Dylan."

At this time, the La Plata County Sheriff's Office is not releasing the name of their "person of interest" and no suspects have been named in Dylan's murder.

The family says their top priority is seeking justice for Dylan and peace for their family.

After five months of reviewing what he called "voluminous material, evidence and reports," former FBI criminal profiler Pete Klismet said he determined there was someone the team needed to be focused on.

"That person probably realizes we've narrowed the focus down," Klismet said. But he says, "We don't know if he or she will talk to us."

Klismet and the La Plata County Sheriff's Office is not identifying the person of interest or other new clues they've developed because of the need to protect the "open, probable homicide investigation," according to sheriff's office spokesman Sgt. Dan Bender.

On Monday, Klismet went to the place where the boy's remains were found and said being there really brought things together for him.

"As I go up the road with one of the investigators, I notice a lot of different things," Klismet said. "When we get to where the remains were ultimately found, it was very informative for me to actually see it. Going to the scene really brought things together for me in my mind."

Klismet said the area where Dylan's remains were found had a bunch of trees, rocks and steep hill climbs. But he said he doesn't look at things in a traditional way.

"I look at behavioral things," Klismet explained. "What was done and what wasn’t done."

He also said that while the area is very steep, in the spot where Dylan's remains were found, it's flatter. It's an area that serves as a foot path and ATV path and some more items connected to the investigation were found there just last month.

Klismet was asked to get involved in the investigation in January. He's from the same town as Dylan -- Colorado Springs -- and had heard about the case, but didn't have any notion of a suspect or any biases.

"I had heard of [the case], but I didn't have any unique knowledge," Klismet said. "The case was far too important to say no to."

Klismet said when he started, he didn't want investigators to tell him anything.

"It was my job to formulate from hundreds of pages of reports, who might be the most viable person [suspect], at this point," Klismet said.

After his work, he said, "We are able to span that gap from not being sure, to the point of being pretty sure of having a person of interest."

Klismet said there's still a lot of hard work to do and more reviewing.

"It's an extremely complicated case with an incredible amount of work done," Klismet said.

Klismet said he'll stay in Durango until Saturday, then continue his work from home. He said there's a lot of hard work still to be done and he'll likely be in contact with investigators daily.

The sheriff's office said because of the additional evidence found last month, investigators are planning on doing more searches in the area where Dylan was found. Dylan's remains were discovered about 6 miles up Middle Mountain Road, north of the Vallecito reservoir.

VALLECITO, Colo. —There is now a person of interest in the case of a boy who went missing from his father's Colorado home in 2012, the La Plata County Sheriff’s Department confirmed.

No arrests have been made, and authorities aren't identifying the person.

Dylan Redwine was reported missing from his father’s Vallecito, Colorado, home in November 2012.

"He was the light of my life," the boy's father, Mark Redwine, said at the time. "He meant everything to me. And I just want him home, just like everybody else does."

At first, officials thought the 13-year-old might have run away. Months went by, and massive searches and vigils took place before authorities located Dylan's remains  and determined that he had been murdered.

"What's important for the public to know is this is not a case we've set aside at any point and time. It's something we have worked on diligently," said Sgt. Dan Bender of the La Plata County Sheriff's Department. "At no point have we stopped the investigation."

DENVER - News that a former FBI investigator has identified a person of interest in the unsolved murder of Dylan Redwine is the first real development in months, but the boy's father says police did not inform him about their progress.

Mark Redwine spoke to 7NEWS Reporter Jaclyn Allen by phone Thursday. He declined to have that call recorded, but did say he was still "trying to digest all of this."

The news broke Wednesday that former FBI profiler Pete Klismet had determined there was one person the investigative team needed to focus on.

"There were some things that we came to the realization this week that then culminated in us feeling very positive," Klismet told 7NEWS. "It's kind of like we were on one side, wanted to get to the other side, somebody built a bridge, the bridge is there, we've crossed that bridge and we're on the other side of the river. We're going forward. We all feel very positive, very enthusiastic and that enthusiasm is not going to wane in the slightest at this point."

"That person probably realizes we've narrowed the focus down," Klismet also said.

Mark Redwine said he had no comment specific to Klismet's progress.

"The bottom line is there is still a lot of work that needs to be done," Dylan's father said Thursday. "And the single most important work that needs to be done is continuing the search to find my son’s remains."

He also pointed out that only 2 percent of Dylan's remains have been found.

"Find my son's remains," he said again.

Elaine Redwine, Dylan's mother, said she is relieved the case is advancing.

"The unfortunate and sad thing that always breaks my heart is that no matter what happens, Dylan is still dead. That will never change," said Elaine Redwine. "So we just have to move forward and try to make it right for him."

She filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Mark Redwine this week, saying she has never been shy about who she thinks murdered her son and the new evidence hasn't changed that.

"It’s just one more avenue," she said. "Mark’s not talking with anyone. He’s not being cooperative with police, and so I just felt that it was time to start making him accountable."

Interesting description of the area from Pete Klismet that I hadn't heard or read before in this one.

I think they've got something that definitely ties Mark to the location.  Was he chain smoking and/or drinking while he was up there disposing of or relocating remains, or maybe just 'taking in the scenery"....and flicked his butts or tossed a bottle with his DNA on it?

As possessive and controlling as Mark is, I lean toward him knowing and controlling where the rest of Dylan's remains are now.  He knew Dylan would be found on that search of Middle Mountain that he skipped town for, it was planned far in advance and he knew it was coming.  So he went up there and moved the 98 percent he could find, and texted Elaine when he was finished.  It's his only bargaining chip left, maybe he thinks it will save him from the death penalty?  It's hard to think about where he may have put him, if it's one place or more.  The hole under the outside staircase still bugs me.  The crusade for Dylan of the lower 48 (that was anything but) concerns me too, but I still lean more toward him keeping everything where he could control and admire it; considering his gazing at that location on Middle Mountain from his front door for months while everyone else searched...

For someone so demanding of respect, he has none for his own.   ::MonkeyNoNo::

Dylan has a beautiful memorial bench in a Bayfield cemetery, but two and a half years after he was murdered, he has yet to be given a proper burial.  The few remains that were found by LE remain in evidence, and only Mark knows where the rest of Dylan's remains are.  His repeated demands for everyone else to find the rest of his son while he sits back and watches is the only control he's got left.  Yeah, Mark wanted to hurt Elaine.  Well, he got that and she'll carry that pain and miss her baby for the rest of her days.  I think he may not have cared about hurting Dylan, and could have premeditated the whole thing, because he felt like Dylan betrayed him and caused him to lose in court; however ludicrous that is.  But he hurt so many others in the process, his remaining children especially.  Did he for one second consider how this would hurt them?  Does he ever think about how the rest of their lives will be living with the knowledge of what he's actually done when the truth comes out?  From what I can tell from a few things I've seen on FB, Mark's side of the family (that he apparently wasn't really close to for many years) are still on his side, defending and distracting from the truth, still believing his lies.  A few of them seem like they're probably decent people, respected in their communities.  Does he care at all how they're going to feel for believing in him and defending him, or how that might affect their lives too, when the truth comes out?  No, he doesn't care about anyone but himself.  Ask Dylan.

Retired FBI profiler Pete Klismet has been pitching perfect games for a while. His game is naming the bad guys.

“I've never been wrong on a case,” Klismet said. “It's my strong feeling that I'm not wrong about this one either.”

Since January, he’s been working with the La Plata County Sheriff’s Department on the Redwine murder investigation.

Klismet said he’s found a person of interest. Investigators aren’t saying who, but revealed that it’s someone they’ve interviewed before.

“I just have a lot of confidence about it,” he said.

It’s been more than two years since the 13-year-old was murdered. Redwine disappeared while visiting his father in Vallecito Lake, Colorado.

After months of searching, some of his bones were found on a nearby mountain.

Investigators want to make it clear that the person of interest is not considered a suspect at this time.

“It’s a matter of probable cause, I suppose. Once that has increased, then it would be at a point to call them a suspect,” Klismet said.

Klismet and others are working on that, but it could take some time.

“It’s not going to be tomorrow afternoon. It's going to take a number of weeks and that will turn into months because I know the amount of work we have ahead of us right now,” he said. “Somebody's got a pit bull's teeth in their hindquarters, and pit bulls tend not to let go, and there are several pit bulls in this investigation, and I’m one of them, and we are not going to let go until we run this ground.”

Bayfield band writes song about Dylan Redwine

Local band Carbon Red plans to share a somber song about Dylan Redwine’s death with his mother, Elaine Hatfield Redwine, on Saturday during a July Fourth concert in Bayfield.

The band’s lead singer and Bayfield resident, Michelle Martin, said that when she started writing the song with her husband, they wanted to address an issue that was powerful and that everyone in the community could relate to.

Even though it’s impossible to know what Dylan’s family is going through, Martin said, she did try to imagine the family’s grief.

“Every night I’m dying inside,” she croons in the song.

Martin, a Durango Herald employee, also calls for justice to be served in the song.

Hatfield Redwine left the band a note of appreciation on social media when the song was released last month.

Mark Redwine: former FBI profiler won’t talk to him about son Dylan’s death

The father of Dylan Redwine says he might be the one a former FBI profiler recently called a ‘person of interest’ in his son’s death but he doesn’t know because authorities have rebuffed his efforts to speak with them.

“I’ve been in communication with the La Plata County Sheriff’s Department and they have no interest in communicating with me right now,” Mark Redwine, the father of deceased 13-year-old Dylan Redwine, said Saturday morning. “I may or may not be that person of interest. Right now there are more questions than answers.”

Sheriff’s investigators also revealed that they conducted other searches on Middle Mountain Road, where Dylan’s body was discovered in the vicinity of his father’s house near Vallecito Reservoir in the summer of 2013 and found “items of interest,” according to the Herald report.

“He’s not made any contact with me,” Redwine said Saturday morning, referring to Klismet. “Everything that is being said is being implied. I think people are reading a lot more into this than is warranted.”

Klismet has not identified the person of interest he is referring to and Redwine said no one has told him who it is. But Redwine said it would be fair to say that authorities have previously indicated that they were primarily focusing their investigation on him.

“Everything that has been said is being implied,” Redwine said.

When first called Saturday morning for comment, Redwine brusquely stated, “At this point I’m not talking,” and hung up the phone.

A half hour later, he called back, apologized over and over for “being rude,” and answered numerous questions about his life following his son Dylan’s death and about a civil lawsuit filed against him by his ex-wife Elaine Redwine.

“I’ve lost my best friend. Dylan was my best friend,” he said. “I’ve chosen to honor my son’s life by living in such a way that my son would be proud of.”

As difficult as it is to focus on work when he is grieving, he has continued to work as a long-haul truck driver, he said. But what has amplified his grief as been an unending onslaught of accusation from his wife.

He said Elaine Redwine began accusing him even before Dylan’s remains were discovered and hasn’t let up in more than two years. It makes his life very difficult, he said.

Redwine said he has contacted a private attorney after his ex-wife filed a wrongful death claim against him, accusing him of killing their son.

“I don’t begrudge her at all in trying to find the truth about what happened to our son. I don’t agree with how she is going about doing it,” he said.

Ending his life when it was only beginning for his own selfish reasons would be first on the list, but here are a few other choices I can think of off hand that Mark has made and I can't imagine Dylan being proud of.

Not admitting his crime, insinuating that Elaine or others close to Dylan were involved, and even blaming Dylan for his own death.

Hoarding Dylan's remains, denying him a proper burial and peace.

Passing out "Missing Dylan Redwine" business cards to promote his own FB support page at Dylan's memorial vigil.

Sending Dylan's bike that we all saw sitting outside to a thrift store.

Taking Elaine to court for damages already recovered from insurance years ago.

Letting Dylan's childhood home that he loved go to foreclosure sale, when it had a renter and income coming in.

The Redwine case jumped back into the headlines this week after former FBI profiler Pete Klismet made statements implying that he knows who is responsible for Dylan Redwine's death.

Klismet said Saturday that Redwine is not being completely forthcoming about his characterization.

"I'd be more than happy to speak with Mr. Redwine whenever and wherever. But he wants to do it on his terms. He wants to speak on the phone. If he wants to talk we're going to sit down face to face or we're not going to do it," Klismet said.

He said items discovered a week ago near the location where Redwine's remains were found were very promising in terms of evidence.

"We do expect to be saying more in the next couple of weeks," Klismet said. "We're getting close."

The criminal profiler tells 11 News it could be a while until they release a name for the person of interest. He says that's the next step. He also tells us he knows he's on the right track.

"I have yet to be wrong on a case and I'm not wrong on this one," said Pete Klismet, a retired FBI criminal profiler of Colorado Springs. He was brought on the case in January. He's confident with his investigation.

Just this week, a major development, a person of interest was identified.

"My opinion matched up with what they thought and that's the point at which we said, okay, so now I think it's safe to say that we have a person of interest," said Klismet.

Klismet wouldn't say whether it's a man or a woman and he didn't release a name. However, Klismet says the person likely knows who they are.

"Frankly, everybody involved in this knows what their status is, you know and I mean I’ve already said that this individual that is a person of interest probably knows that they are," said Klismet.

“This case is very complicated," said Klismet. "You had a six month search before you were able to find any remains. Then you had a number of other searches. We had a search here, they did a search about a month ago and some additional items were found. Now in the process of evaluating whether or not those items are evidence or what they are.”

"We also want to look at why did this happen," said Klismet. "Or, even more importantly, sometimes I've found, which is true in this case - why didn't certain things happen."

It's a complicated case that continues to unfold.

"This is not a case that you want to lose the case and we're not going to lose the case," said Klismet.

He also tells 11 News he met with Dylan's mother for the first time while he was in Durango. “The family has been very involved," said Klismet. "I had an opportunity yesterday to meet the mother and talk to the mother, the son, and to her husband.”

Retired FBI agent Pete Klismet, of Colorado Springs, was brought in to help with the investigation.

"We really feel like we have made some progress and we feel like we have gotten to the point that we are optimistic about where we are going now," said Klismet.

Dan Bender, with the La Plata County Sheriff's Office, tells KRDO NewsChannel 13 that this potential break in the case happened in early June during a search of the area where Redwine's remains were found. He says "items of interest" were found during that search, though he declined to go into detail.

Bender says the person of interest was identified after Klismet, who has more than 30 years experience as a criminal profiler, reviewed existing evidence in the case, along with the new evidence.  Klismet said bringing in a fresh set of eyes proved to be extremely beneficial in this case.

"We have gone from really not knowing who might have been a person of interest in this case to the point where we are saying yes, we feel very confident in having one," said Klismet.

Dylan Redwine's father, Mark Redwine, told the Denver Post he thinks he may be Klismet's person of interest. Klismet said he is willing to talk with Mark Redwine about the case.

"I think it’s his job to get ahold of us and to talk with us to convince us that he is not a person of interest in this case," Klismet said. "If we can clear him, that would make me very happy."

Klismet said any conversation with Mark Redwine will need to be done in person.

"I don’t do interviews by email, by text or by telephone. If he wants to sit down and talk with me, when he’s ready to do that, I’m ready to do that anytime," Klismet said.

Meanwhile, KRDO NewsChannel 13 has confirmed that Dylan Redwine's mom, Elaine Redwine, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Dylan's dad, Mark Redwine.

The suit was filed in La Plata County District Court on June 29.

In the lawsuit, Elaine Redwine alleges her ex-husband's conduct resulted in the death of their son and that Dylan's death was "the proximate and direct result of the negligence" of Mark Redwine.

Elaine Redwine is asking for financial compensation in the suit.

Klismet said the timing of the lawsuit is merely a coincidence and said it does not have an impact on the investigation.

"I just found out about it today and I kind of snapped my head and said 'What?' said Klismet.

Bender said additional searches and interviews will be conducted. He said the person of interest will not be named a suspect until there is probable cause to do so.

tonight, new details the search for the killer of a colorado springs boy. the former fbi agent credited for a break in the case says dylan redwine's father has not been cooperative.... contrary to what the father says. dylan was visiting his father near durango for thanksgiving in 20-12 when he disappeared. his remains were found in june of 2013. his father, mark redwine... tells the denver post that he himself may be the person of interest. he says investigators won't return his calls. the investigator says that couldn't be farther from the truth, and he sat down with krdo newschannel 13's zach pagano. as investigators follow new leads in the death of 13- year-old dylan redwine... they are getting closer to naming a person of interest in the case. making an arrest means absolutely nothing. what really counts is taking the case to trial, proving the case and having a conviction at the end. that is exactly where we are heading. it's going to take us perhaps longer than people want. retired fbi agent pete klismet was called in to help with the investigation. he toured the area where dylan's remains were found... and says and was able to narrow down a narrow down a person of interest. just seeing the things that i saw just made understand or helped me to understand things even better than what i understood before. dylan's father... mark redwine... says he might be klismet's person of interset... but says investigators won't talk to him. klismet says that's not the case. i don't do interview by email, by text or by telephone. if he wants to sit down and talk with me, when he's ready to do that, i'm ready to do that anytime, anyplace. klismet says his door is open and he is willing to talk to mark redwine. if mr. redwine thinks that he's the person of interest in that, then i think it's his job to get a hold of us and to talk with us to convince us that he is not a person of interest in this case.. because if we can clear him, that would make me very happy. then we can go on from here to the next step. in colorado springs, zach pagano, krdo newschannel 13. klismet says investigators will be able to release the person of interest's name in a few weeks. we've called mark redwine several times today to get his side of the story -- and have not heard back.

I hope they can put together this case and take as loooong as they want.

Dylan Redwine's mother says she is confident that Mark Redwine, Dylan's father, is to blame for her son's death. This comes after a private investigator turned up new evidence and named a ‘person of interest’ in the case.

Elaine Hatfield’s 13-year-old son, Dylan, was at his father's home in Vallecito in southwestern Colorado for Thanksgiving in 2012 when he disappeared.  Dylan's body was found in June of 2013.

A former FBI agent from Colorado Springs is credited with making a break in the case and finding a ‘person of interest,’ who hasn’t been named.

Hatfield believes her ex-husband, Mark Redwine is that ‘person of interest.’ She says she’s thought that from day one.

Reporter: "How can you be so certain?"
Hatfield: "Because I know what evidence is out there. I know him, I know our relationship. I know his relationship with the boys and that's why, from day one, I pointed my finger at him.”

We're hearing from the mother of the monument boy who was killed.

She's reacting after major developments that unfolded last week when investigators say there's a person of interest in the Dylan Redwine case.

Dylan’s mother Elaine Hatfield says the recent developments did not come as a surprise, but she's feeling more optimistic that the case is moving forward.

Investigators aren't naming who the recently announced person of interest is right now.

Left monument last week and drove to Durango to talk with the retired FBI profiler who was hired to look at the case.

She feels he was spot on.

Elaine just got back from Durango and says she hopes this person of interest will talk with investigators.

"I know it will get solved. Time is relevant. I want them to do it right and that's what they're trying to do,” Hatfield said.

11 News talked to investigators with the La Plata County Sheriff's office this afternoon, they say there's no timeline to when we might learn who this person of interest is.

Dylan’s mother, Elaine Hatfield, says she is confident the case will be solved soon and remains optimistic.

“I can’t bring Dylan back. I wish I could, but I can’t,” Hatfield said. “So in the meantime we just have to keep working and fighting for justice for him.”

Hatfield welcomed the news about her son’s murder case with the La Plata County Sheriff’s Department confirming that they have a person of interest. They won’t say who it is or the person’s gender.

Retired FBI profiler Pete Klismet says he was hired by the La Plata County Sheriff’s Department to help with behavior analysis to develop a person of interest.

“My opinion matched up with what they thought, and that’s the point at which we said, ‘Okay, so now I think it’s safe to say we have a person of interest,’ ” Klismet said.

Dylan’s mother still believes her ex-husband, Dylan’s father Mark Redwine, is responsible for their son’s death. Mark Redwine denies involvement.

“I know him. I know his relationship with the boys. I know his relationship with us, and quite honestly I know what evidence is out there and that just basically ferments my belief in that Mark did this to Dylan,” Hatfield said.

Dylan’s mother is hopeful about the new developments in the case.

“Of course I’m more optimistic now, but we live and breathe this every day,” she said. “This is our life, so for us … we know the inner workings of what’s going on.”

Saying that they have a person of interest and that they found notable items during searches in early June give the case momentum it has not had since the teen’s remains were found.

“There is a level of excitement right now that has not been previously felt before,” Klismet said.

Investigators say based on what they found during the searches last month, more searches are planned in the area.

Six months ago, the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office and the 6th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, looking for ways to boost their investigation, hired Klismet because he has an international reputation as a criminal profiler.

“They wanted to have a fresh set of eyes to look at the case,” Klismet said Wednesday afternoon during an exclusive interview at the sheriff’s office.

The longtime FBI agent, who lives in Colorado Springs, said he knew about the case from what he read in the media but he was able to take on the behavior analysis not only because of his experience, but also because he could do it without “prejudice.”

“My training and experience cause me to look at the ‘why’ differently,” he said.

Criminal profilers are specifically trained to look at evidence of a crime and to deduce from that evidence information that paints a behavioral portrait of the type of person who would commit that particular crime, Klismet said.

His work narrowed to looking at only one person of interest in this case. More work needs to be done to actually name a suspect, investigators say.

Klismet said much of his role involved trying to figure out a motive for the crime. When you have a motive, he said, it narrows potential suspects. He is confident that his profiling will lead to a long-sought-after conclusion about who is responsible.

“I’ve done quite a number of (profiles), and I’ve never been wrong – and I’m not wrong on this one,” Klismet said.

I only know of Katt through this case, but I can say without a doubt that her light shines.  The love, compassion, dedication, and determination she has shown are admirable.  She has been a fierce warrior princess for her friend's sweet son, Dylan.  There is nothing she wouldn't do to bring him home.  May we all be blessed with a friend like her.  She was diagnosed with stage IV colorectal cancer in May of 2013, and has been through numerous treatments since that time, remission, and recurrence.

Congratulations Mike and Elaine, finally married yesterday in beautiful Monument, Co. It was an incredible day, filled with love, laughter, and lots of tears.

Even though Dylan wasn't there in person, we could feel his kind spirit all around us, Dylan's Warriors came from near and far to be there, one even came as far as Australia, it was truly magical, a great time was had by all.

Mark, on Tricia's True Crime Radio June 2nd about his searches:

"Um, you know, I’ve been up on Middle Mountain several times, driving through there, trying to see if there’s any particular area that kinda stands out to me. It’s a mile, it’s a road about ten miles long up into the backcountry, so I mean, it’s very heavily wooded. There’s little, a million little side cutoffs for you know ATV type vehicles and motorcycles or hiking trails and things like that, so there’s, there’s a lot of land here that we’re talkin’ about to cover. You know nothing specifically jumps out at me and that, but you know, and there have been locations throughout, cuz right now you can only get so far up…"

"*It wasn’t until recently that I realized that they even had a gate up there*, but at this point in the year, there’s still snow up on the higher portion of this road so they don’t even have the gates open to be able to get up there. Now, I do know in communicating with law enforcement that they’ve been up there and that’s how I know this..."

Teresa Nordbrok Martinez, friend of Mark and his "sisters", on the very day law enforcement announced finding Dylan, discussed Mark's insistence that Dylan was not in the area, and Middle Mountain Rd.

"...I was in Colorado for two and a half weeks at Christmas, ok?...when I was there, he showed me that, when we was goin' down the road, he says, "Now that road there is closed off on certain times of the year because it's impassable. You just can't go through it."

The one public search for Dylan that Mark Redwine participated in had been redirected at the last minute from the mountains around the lake to Florida Road.  The redirected search started about 18 miles from where Dylan's partial remains were eventually found.

Hundreds Of Volunteers Search Country Road For Missing Boy

Hundreds of people volunteered their efforts over the weekend to search for a missing teenager.

Investigators shifted their focus Saturday to a country road between Durango and Vallecito in La Plata County. The Sheriff's Office cited concerns about potential snowfall after Saturday, and not any new leads, as the reason behind the new efforts along La Plata County Road 240, also known as Florida Road. The road is a commonly-used route from Vallecito, where 13-year-old Dylan Redwine was last seen three weeks ago.

The area was expected to be hit by snow late Saturday night, giving investigators a narrow window to search the road before it was potentially blanketed by snow.

The La Plata County Sheriff's Office says 263 citizen volunteers and personnel from more than 17 agencies joined in on Saturday's search. Crews combed a 60-mile area seeking any clues that could help locate the missing teen.

Some may wonder how a man (dare I say man & MR in the same sentence?) as stupid as MR has been able to outwit a team of educated and trained professionals for so long. He hasn't. Some people will say that LPCSO has delayed prosecution because they don't have evidence. They do. Some people will say that they need a body. They don't.

The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday that it is identifying Mark Redwine as a person of interest in the death of his son, Dylan, 13.

“That designation was based on evidence collected, inconsistent statements made by Mark Redwine and his behavior throughout the investigation,” sheriff’s office spokesman Dan Bender said in a news release.

The sheriff’s office also said that as part of its investigation, Dylan’s mother, Elaine Hall, brother, Cory Redwine, and Hall’s husband, Mike Hall, have been cleared of any involvement in Dylan’s disappearance and death.

Dylan’s partial remains were discovered on Middle Mountain near his father’s Vallecito home. The sheriff’s office is planning another search of the area in early to mid-September, Bender said.

Bender said he was unable to give any information beyond what was included in the news release at this time.

The sheriff’s office also announced Wednesday that the coroner is reclassifying Dylan’s manner of death to homicide, after it was previously listed as undetermined.

La Plata County Coroner Jann Smith declined to comment about amending Dylan’s death certificate, citing the pending investigation.

DURANGO, Colo. - The La Plata County Sheriff's Office confirms Mark Redwine, the father of Dylan Redwine, is officially a person of interest in Dylan's death.

"That designation was based on evidence collected, inconsistent statements made by Mark Redwine and his behavior throughout the investigation," the sheriff's office said in a statement sent to 7NEWS.

Officials also said the La Plata County Coroner has amended Dylan's death certificate from undetermined cause of death to homicide as the cause of the death.

Dylan was 13 when he disappeared on a court-ordered visit with Mark near Durango during Thanksgiving week in 2012. Some of the boy's remains were found in June 2013, north of his father's home.

"Today was a good day on our journey towards justice for Dylan," said Dylan's mother, Elaine Redwine Hall.

La Plata County Sheriff's Office spokesman Dan Bender told 7NEWS new evidence was found during two searches in early June on Middle Mountain Road north of Vallecito Reservoir, near where investigators discovered the remains two years ago.

Then, in early July, investigators announced they had identified a "person of interest" in the death of Dylan Redwine, but they did not name that person until Wednesday.

Bender told 7NEWS that the person of interest was developed after a retired FBI agent, who is veteran criminal profiler, helped the investigators.

That retired FBI agent, Pete Klismet, reviewed volumes of information provided by the sheriff's office and district attorney's office, according to Bender.

"Based on my involvement, I’m in complete agreement" with naming Mark Redwine as a person of interest, Klismet said Wednesday.

DURANGO, Colo. - Just as deputies were crafting their announcement that Mark Redwine was a person of interest in the death of his son Dylan, a judge was rejecting the elder Redwine's attempt to dismiss his ex-wife's lawsuit.

Elaine Redwine, Dylan's mother, filed the wrongful death lawsuit against her ex-husband on June 29. At the time, she said she has never been shy about who she thinks murdered her son.

"It’s just one more avenue," she said during July. "Mark’s not talking with anyone. He’s not being cooperative with police, and so I just felt that it was time to start making him accountable."

Amber Harrison, Elaine's attorney, confirmed for 7NEWS that Mark Redwine's motion to dismiss the lawsuit was denied Wednesday by the judge overseeing the case.

Ask for her reaction to Mark Redwine being named a person of interest in Dylan's homicide, Harrison said, "I think that would be the right direction for the entire community. I think everybody is wanting some resolution."

On Wednesday investigators labeled him a ‘person of interest’ in the murder of his son, Dylan.

In an interview with FOX31 Denver’s Kevin Torres, Elaine Hall said Mark grew distant with investigators and hasn’t been cooperative.

“I know Mark. I know Dylan. I know the dynamics. I’ll never change my opinion on that,” Elaine Hall said. “If he was innocent he would be standing up screaming saying ‘who killed my son?!’ He hasn’t done any of that.”

The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office said it came down to evidence and inconsistent statements given by Mark Redwine, as well as his behavior.

“Since day one those were my issues,” Hall said.

“If you could talk to Mark Redwine right now, what would you say to him?” asked Torres.

“I would say to him he keeps touting how he wants to live his life the way Dylan would be proud. The way Dylan would be proud is for Mark to come up, talk to law enforcement and tell them what happened that night. The lies are going to get you nowhere,” Hall responded.

Mr. Hatfield (Mark's attorney) made a couple statements yesterday but it seems the source disabled the comments. I would like to address these statements made by Mr. Hatfield. (btw- no relation what so ever to Elaine)

1st..The determination that Dylan was killed "seems to be incredibly speculative at this point," since his entire remains have not been recovered, Hatfield said. Hatfield added that basing the "person of interest" off determination of Redwine's behavior was not taking the past few years into context.

A. Mr. Hatfield, you have a hard enough task as an attorney filing a proper response to the courts as shown below so please do not play coroner.

B. Please show some intelligence as even people without a law degree know it does not take his entire remains to determine he was killed.

C. Mr. Hatfield, POI was based on 1st evidence collected followed by inconsistent statements THEN his behavior. EVIDENCE Mr. Hatfield!!

2nd.."He has lost his son, but he has also been facing death threats and vandalism and accusations by Elaine," Hatfield said. "It would be extremely surprising if he weren't stressed out."

A. I disagree. He did not lose his son, he murdered him

B. Wishing him dead for what he has done is a far cry from a death threat IMO. How is it okay for your client hours after notification remains found were Dylan's to text the mother wishing her dead but nobody can wish your client dead?

Mr. Hatfield, if more of Dylan's remains are needed to determine his death then perhaps your client could explain where those remains are. Or better yet, explain how 2% of Dylan's remains magically exited his body.
While there is no set of rules on how the parent of a murdered child should act, there is behavior that is expected. Mark has displayed every behavior opposite of the expected norm. Does that make him guilty? No. It makes him appear to be an uncaring, uninvolved, unconcerned parent. Mark has made two statements in 2 1/2 yrs asking for the return of his son, one was written by you! He has not participated or initiated a single search, what parent on earth would NOT search for their missing child?
In regards to threats, your client is the master and creator of threats and intimidation. Sitting outside homes, calling, making comments that indicate he's watching and near. Maybe your client should put on his big boy diaper and grow a pair of cajones, stop being a sissy la la. If he needs a pair of balls, he can borrow them from Elaine, me or his children that he didn't murder.

DENVER - Mark Redwine, who was named Wednesday as a person of interest in his son's 2012 death, is now blaming his ex-wife for a "pattern" of actions that he alleges led to the boy's murder.

Dylan Redwine was 13 when he disappeared on a court-ordered visit with his dad, Mark Redwine, near Durango during Thanksgiving week in 2012. Some of the boy's remains were found in June 2013, about 10 miles from his father's home north of Vallecito Lake.

La Plata County's Corner officially classified the case as homicide on Wednesday.

In Mark Redwine's new lawsuit, entered in La Plata County District Court, he alleges that his ex-wife has made inaccurate representations about domestic violence and campaigned to get law enforcement to consider him a suspect in Dylan's death.

The new filing is a counterclaim to the wrongful death lawsuit filed by Elaine Redwine, Dylan's mother, on June 29. At the time, she said she has never been shy about who she thinks murdered her son.

Wednesday, just as the La Plata County Sheriff's Office named Mark Redwine a person of interest in Dylan's death, his motion to dismiss the lawsuit was rejected by the judge overseeing the case.

Mark Redwine's countersuit alleges that Elaine Redwine has led a “concerted campaign” to blame Mark Redwine for Dylan’s death, forcing him to "mainly live on the road as a trucker."

In his lawsuit, Mark Redwine alleges that Elaine Redwine engaged in “vitriolic and abusive litigation” against him since their divorce in 2005.

Mark Redwine claims his ex-wife exposed Dylan to “accusations, disparagement and loathing commentary."

The lawsuit claims the domestic conditions “created the environment that was Dylan Redwine’s life and ultimately likely led to his death.”

“While Dylan’s cause of death is not known… it is more likely than not that he left Mark Redwine’s home… possibly encouraged by Elaine Redwine and met with whoever or whatever caused his death,” the lawsuit states.

"But for the actions of the plaintiff (Elaine Redwine) it is more likely than not that Dylan would not have left his father's home and would be alive today," the document states.

“Elaine Redwine’s actions, in addition to causing the death of Dylan, have effectively hindered law enforcement for two years from pursuing the actual cause of Dylan’s death or identify[ing] any suspects or causes of that death,” the lawsuit continues.

Mark Redwine's claim seeks the dismissal of his ex-wife's suit, financial damages and attorney's fees in unspecified amounts.

I was really hoping they would do their research and see the truth, but honestly I'm not really surprised that didn't happen.  Not after the scathing Letter to the Editor from Naomi Beans that they also published, with her opinion that Elaine should just get over it. 

Mark's support page on FB goes dark quite often, it's active the last time I checked.  The page gained likes by deceiving others with claims of being a page by Elaine's family, agreed to be taken down when an article or two came out about it, and then announced that Mark decided to keep it up for updates.  The rare updates have included (around Mother's Day) insinuating Dylan may have been distraught and committed suicide, and more recently that Elaine was the POI since Mark hadn't been contacted by LE and she had.  This is only one, of MANY disgusting pages they have been behind to hurt Dylan's family.  It's sickening!  When Dylan's warriors reacted and responded in kind, some of them went poof.  But now Mark's the victim?  GMAFB!

Mark and his group of internet bullies have been ruthless in their attacks on Dylan, everyone that loves him, and anyone that publicly supports them.  Most of the ones that have aligned themselves with Mark, have harassed other families of the missing as well.

Yesterday, I read somewhere that he's still trying to digest it all.  My guess is that his diapers have been full and plentiful.  I'm sure he considers the publicity about his countersuit and insinuations that FB vigilantes have lead the investigation as wins.  Maybe he wore something pretty last night to celebrate. 

He works so hard to contradict everything LE does or Elaine says; and never lifted a finger for Dylan. 

Cory has stated that Mark spent more time with Dylan in the three months after Elaine moved them than he had in the past three years.  He even stole a gift out of his bag that Dylan bought for Elaine on one of their trips, and then sent it to Elaine in Dec 2012.  He wanted to win in court.  He lost.  And he didn't communicate with Dylan at all until Dylan arrived in Durango November 18th, two months later.  The last picture of Dylan shows something was wrong, and I believe he was dead within hours.

A sweet innocent 13 year old boy.  His own father.

Justice is coming.

Durango - Elaine Redwine said she feels helpless with no news of 13-year-old son Dylan’s whereabouts.

“He didn’t go on his own,” Elaine Redwine said of her son, Dylan, who was visiting his father, Mark Redwine, during Thanksgiving break.

The couple are divorced and she lives in Colorado Springs.

“Dylan wouldn’t have left willingly,” Redwine said during an interview at the home of a friend Friday afternoon. “If there was any way to communicate he would have called.”

A message left on Mark Redwine’s cellphone Friday was not returned.

The telephone at his residence at 2343 County Road 500 rang until it cut off.

Dylan is described as 5 feet tall, 105 pounds, blond hair. blue eyes and fair complexion. He was last seen wearing a blue-and-white Duke Blue Devils baseball cap, black Nike T-shirt and black Jordan tennis shoes.

Dylan was picked up Sunday by his father at Durango-La Plata County Airport, his mother said Friday. Dylan announced his arrival in a text message and ended it with the emoticon that is interpreted as a scowl, she said.

She declined to talk about her former spouse except to say he rarely exercised his visitation rights.

The last time Dylan visited Vallecito from Colorado Springs, where she moved this summer, was on Labor Day weekend, Redwine said.

“This is the fifth day Dylan has been missing, with few clues to work from,” Bender said. “We have to consider everything from foul play to a runaway.”

But Elaine Redwine won’t hear of Dylan being a runaway and discounts reported sightings of the boy Monday and Tuesday afternoons.

A Vallecito resident who knows Dylan reported seeing him walking with another boy of about the same age on Monday. Each boy had a backpack.

Redwine believes her son’s disappearance was involuntary. “Someone knows where he is,” she said.

The last time anyone she knows talked to Dylan was Sunday night, Redwine said. Dylan and a friend from Bayfield were to meet early Monday, she said.

The tragic disappearance of a young boy became a possible murder mystery this week following an announcement by law enforcement officials in Colorado.

The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday that the death of 13-year-old Dylan Redwine was no accident.

Redwine went missing Nov. 19, 2012, shortly after his arrival in Bayfield, Colorado, for a Thanksgiving visit with his father. His remains waited in silence for seven months on the side of a mountain near his father’s home until searchers, spurred on by the spring thaw, found him.

More than two years have passed since the discovery. Along the way, his parents, Mark Redwine and Elaine Hall, who are divorced, have played out a family drama of anger and betrayal that led to Hall filing a wrongful death lawsuit against her ex-husband in June.

In July, La Plata County Sheriff’s Office announced they had determined a person of interest in the case. Investigators declined to name the person but that didn’t stop the ongoing trial of Mark Redwine in social media and online. Part of Wednesday’s announcement included naming Mark Redwine as that person of interest. Redwine responded by filing a countersuit to his wife’s claim.

Denise Hess, one of the community members who helped organize the search for Dylan, said the two announcements are an important step.

“For a lot of us who have followed this, not just me, but people in the community and even worldwide who felt Mark had something to do with hurting Dylan,” she said, “we don’t look like we’re just crazily trying to accuse him, but that there’s actually some basis to our opinion.”

Like others, she has questions about what this means.

“They have not yet named him as a suspect, and we hope that happens sooner rather than later, “ she said. “The bigger step is the change on the death certificate to homicide – that’s huge.”

The timing for next steps is uncertain right now, Champaign said.

“There’s nothing set,” he said. “No set time, no set time frame or timeline for this. It’s a very complicated case, and they’re treating it with the utmost top priority. The more investigation they do, the better the case will be.”

Yes, Mark has known internet trolls and bullies on his side.  If you're going to comment on any of the pro Dylan pages on FB or even the news articles using your FB login, SERIOUSLY...lock your profile down (they will use anything they can see), and prepare for a 3-30 day FB timeout or for example...to have to "verify your identity"; they maliciously report everything...even prayers!  They know how to "work" FB to intimidate and silence others in their effort to support Mark Redwine, the person of interest in the murder of his own innocent 13 year old son.  Multiple pages have been created over the almost three years that were just sickening, they viciously made fun of Katt's cancer, they taunted Elaine about her mother while her mother was dying of cancer and after her death, they've taunted Cory with disgusting pages, there was a page geared at taunting Mark's first ex wife calling her a wet blanket; and even had a page about Dylan, the runaway!  But poor Mark's the victim, he's only the POI because of social media.  ok, whatever...   ::MonkeyRoll::

They have stopped at nothing, absolutely nothing is sacred to them.  Good company I guess for the monster that could do what he has done and continues to do to his own beautiful child; all for his own sick benefit.

We only know some of the items taken in the searches of Mark's home by what HE has put out there.  HE gave some pages of the search warrants and seizure lists to his FB support page to post...but he never gave them ALL of them.  He told reporters what he wanted Elaine to know they took from his house.  He wanted her to know they took his fire poker, ripped up floor boards, and dug a hole under his steps.  What was his excuse again for postmarking his first ever child support check (that hadn't been ordered yet) November 19th, the same day Elaine had to report Dylan missing?  In one of the last interviews before he was officially named the POI he was still taunting LE that the most important work to be done was to find his son remains that he has yet had the need to look for. 

Dylan will be heard, he will have justice.  Dylan's loving family is stronger than any amount of hate Mark or his band of haters can dish out, and they have loving supporters all over the world who only want justice for this sweet boy that stole our hearts.

Description
Vallecito Crags is a nice, little area with alpine feel. There are some quality quartzite routes from one pitch sport climbs to three pitch trad climbs. Sometimes it is nice to climb on something besides sandstone. This is a fairly secluded area, and seeing other climbers is not commonplace. Some of the climbing here is quite adventurous, and this would be a bad place to need a rescue. On the longer routes, be prepared for difficult route finding, run outs, and gear behind loose features as the quartzite can be quite flaky.

There is still a lot of potential here, but the main lines have been cleaned up and climbed. It is shady in the morning and super sunny all day.

Getting There
Drive up Middle Mountain road a little ways past the 5 mile marker and park at switchback. The trail to start hiking down is a four wheeler trail and is marked as the Berry Park Trail. Drop right off of the Berry Park Trail almost immediately. Hike down ridgeline about 10-15 minutes to the topmost crag (Penthouse). It is a downhill hike on the way in and uphill on the way out.

These cliffs are easily visible from below near the Vallecito Creek Trailhead. To reach the larger cliffs of the High Times Wall and South Park, continue on the trail past the Penthouse to the south which takes you to the top anchors of the multi-pitch climbs.

Suicide prevention, FBI profiling will be highlighted in presentation

Four years ago, then-Douglas County coroner and 26-year Colorado State Patrol veteran Lora Thomas began a series of events titled "A Night with the Coroner" to inform citizens of how things were handled in her office.

At 6:45 p.m. on Sept. 23, the program will return at Southridge Recreation Center, 4800 McArthur Ranch Road in Highlands Ranch, with a presentation by FBI profiler Pete Klismet. Anyone is welcome, but parental discretion is advised, Thomas said. The fee is $10 at the door.

The now-retired coroner left Douglas County in January and since then has become the president of the 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation A Night with the Coroner. Her hopes are to bring awareness to suicide prevention and inform the community of how law enforcement works and what a coroner does.

Aside from suicide, Thomas wants the public to know how death investigations are handled.

“Who doesn't love Gibb on 'NCIS'? But that's entertainment. I want people to know the real roles and responsibilities of a coroner and other law enforcement personnel,” she said.

That's why she invited Klismet.

“I'd like to debunk a lot of myths that currently exist, from television, that what we do is some sort of psychic thing,” he said. “It never fails that I get asked if 'Criminal Minds' is for real.”

Klismet has been with the FBI for 30 years and is the profiler in the Dylan Redwine case out of Durango. Recently, Klismet said he helped put a ribbon around the case of the 13-year-old from Monument who went missing three years ago before the boy's remains were found, helping authorities reach the point of naming Dylan's father Mark as a person of interest.

He plans to talk about how criminal profiling and the conduct of investigations have evolved throughout the years.

“We'll talk about some of the behavioral clues at crime scenes that answer questions and may give us some clues into the personality of some unknown suspect,” Klismet said. “I've talked this concept of profiling, and oftentimes you can determine why, then you can go to who, because why gives you motive. I'll talk about the nuts and bolts of what it comes down to.”

Authorities found several “items of interest” during a Saturday search for clues connected to the death of Dylan Redwine, a teen who went missing in November 2012 north of Vallecito Reservoir.

La Plata County Sheriff’s Office organized another search in an area of Middle Mountain Road near Vallecito Reservoir on Saturday where they previously had found remains of Dylan Redwine.

La Plata County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Daniel Bender told The Durango Herald on Saturday afternoon that several items were found before noon, but he said he could not disclose specifics about the items, including how many were found.

“We don’t know if they’re related to the case,” Bender said.

Forty personnel were involved in Saturday’s search along a stretch of Middle Mountain Road where remains of the 13-year-old’s body were identified in June 2013.

Bender said a wet season prompted Saturday’s search.

“There was a lot of rain and heavy thunder this summer, and with that movement of the soil and vegetation, we thought it would be prudent to go back out,” he said.

Searchers included police from all over the region including, Cortez, Denver, Boulder, Aurora and Telluride, as well as San Juan County deputies and a search and rescue team. A K-9 dog was also used, Bender said.

The search began at 7 a.m. and lasted through the afternoon. Depending on how far authorities get Saturday, efforts may continue into Sunday. The search area is heavily forested and also includes deep canyons. Elevation ranges from 8,000 to 11,000 feet.

The La Plata County Sheriff's Office says some items that require further scrutiny were found during a search this past weekend.

The search was part of the ongoing investigation into the murder of Dylan Redwine, the then 13-year-old from Monument disappeared while visiting his dad in southwestern Colorado in November 2012.

About 40 investigators searched Middle Mountain on Saturday, conducting a follow-up search in the disappearance and murder of Dylan Redwine.

In June of 2013, a few of the 13-year-old's remains, along with some items belonging to him, were found on Middle Mountain.

"We wanted to do follow up searches in that area because after over three years of drought conditions, the area has received many rainstorms throughout this summer with quite a few thunderstorms containing heavy rain," wrote Lt. Dan Bender of the sheriff's office in an e-mail. "The area consists of steep terrain, heavy ground cover and dense forest. Heavy rain on steep slopes can uncover things that may have been covered before. So, we felt it was prudent to search the area again." Searchers were in the area from early morning until late afternoon, and a smaller group went into a more rugged area on Sunday.

"During the two days of searching, several items of interest were collected by investigators," Bender said. "We are not describing what was found nor how many items were found."

Vallecito residents also reported Mark Redwine returned to his Vallecito home this weekend. The home was in foreclosure earlier but has been refinanced, according to public records. Redwine has rarely been seen at the house since his son's disappearance. He left on Tuesday.

It breaks my heart when I think about what Dylan's friends must be going through, the thoughts they must be having.

Can we start by defining what a narcissist is?

I think the general understanding about narcissism is that it’s just a braggadocio boastful person who is full of themselves. If someone is full of themselves and boastful and talks a lot about themselves, that’s not hurting anybody. Narcissists are people who lack empathy, who are not accountable for their behavior. They set up their world so it’s about themselves. They exploit others for their own gain. If you’re in a relationship with a narcissist, you eventually discover you are there to revolve around them and to serve them. You can only imagine the shock that happens for people when they get seduced into something they think is the best thing that ever happened to them and it turns into this kind of relationship.

Why was it important to write a book for people who are divorcing a narcissist?
A.

When people are in relationships with either a full-blown narcissistic personality or even people with a high number of narcissistic traits, it becomes a very traumatic experience for them and the children. When they file for divorce and decide to leave or even think about leaving, it becomes an even bigger nightmare. They have to deal with family law and custody evaluators and therapists and judges and the courts. If you divorce a narcissist, it’s not going to be a normal divorce because if you leave the narcissist, they never get over it. They seek revenge, and the court system is an incredibly great platform for a narcissist. That’s where they can just continue the battle with the partner and continue to seek revenge, and that’s what happens.

I think of Dylan every second of every day but especially when I'm driving alone and listening to the radio. Dylan was always right beside me wherever I went. He was my direction, my guidance and my companion during every road trip. Today as I was driving I thought of this. I thought I wonder if Dylan Redwine at 16 would still want to cruise with his multi. And then I thought heck he would be driving me. He was 13 years old. 13 is nothing in this life. 13 short years and then he was taken. Not by God but by a man. An abuser, a possessive, manipulative, evil man that I married. I look back at our years and wonder how I could have picked so badly. I was, am, a good person and just wanted the best for all of us. Even him. Now I want nothing more then for him to rot in hell for taking the life of a sweet, innocent 13 year old boy who really did love life. He loved us all. He even loved he man that took his life. I know Dylan is instrumental in this journey for justice we see it every day. And I know Dylan is safe now. But he was in a good place I with me and Cory Redwine and so many others that he loved and cherished so much. But no matter how many dreams I have that he is still alive, he isn't, and I can't change that. So I will fight. Harder then I have ever fought before and you bet your ass mark redwine this is not good for you. Thank all of you who fight with me. I know Oma and opa and dad and many others that are with him are fighting as well. I thank you all that are fighting for justice here on earth especially my best friend and a man Dylan loved, Michael Hall. The truth shall prevail and Dylan will be heard. As will we. I miss you.

I won't get into how unfair it is that you're not here.

I won't mention how sad it makes me.

I won't mention how selfish it was that someone had to take you away.

I will mention that you're missed, more than you'll ever know.

The La Plata County Coroner has amended the death certificate of Dylan Redwine from MANNER OF DEATH: Undetermined, to MANNER OF DEATH: Homicide.

La Plata County Sheriff's Office names Mark Redwine as a person of interest in the death of his son, Dylan Redwine. That designation was based on evidence collected, inconsistent statements made by Mark Redwine, and his behavior throughout the investigation. The release further states that Michael Hall, Elaine Hall, and Cory Redwine, have been cleared of any involvement in Dylan's disappearance and death.

Dylan Redwine (13) arrived in Durango, Colorado for a court ordered visitation with his father, Mark Redwine on November 18, 2012.  All communications from Dylan stopped abruptly within hours of his arrival.  After seven months of searching, a few of Dylan's bones were found.  The search continues for the remainder of Dylan's remains, and his belongings.  To date, there has not been an arrest in the murder of Dylan Redwine.  Dylan's mother, Elaine, has been visible and actively searched for Dylan since day one.  Dylan's father, Mark Redwine, did not appear publicly until nine days after Elaine reported Dylan missing.  Mark Redwine's home has been repeatedly searched, his truck is currently in the custody of the La Plata County Sheriff as well as other items.  It has almost been two years since Dylan's remains were found in an area Mark Redwine says he can see from his front door.  The pictures in the video are from December 2012, long before anyone else knew that Dylan was on the side of that mountain.

This beautiful child deserves a proper burial, and justice.

Authorities investigating the death of 13-year-old Dylan Redwine say they have discovered items that are worth testing to determine if they are connected.

The search was conducted Saturday in the Middle Mountain area where Redwine's remains were discovered in June of 2013.

Redwine disappeared during a 2012 Thanksgiving trip to his father's house during a court-ordered visit. La Plata County Sheriff's investigators have identified Redwine's father, Mark, as a person of interest in his death.

Authorities conducted the search Saturday because the area had received heavy rain and authorities believed evidence that might have been covered with debris could have been uncovered, said Sgt. Dan Bender, sheriff's office spokesman.

"We've had a lot of gully washers," Bender said Monday.

Officials are not identifying the items that were found because they may or may not be connected to Redwine's disappearance, he said.

The possible evidence will be tested and if there is a connection found, the items will be revealed, Bender said.

Dear Dylan,

It's a sad week for your friends, your family, and for your warriors. Next Wednesday, you will have been an angel for 3 years. We all know that you are in a beautiful place, surrounded by love. You have personally taken some of us by the hand and shown us because you wanted us to know that you were alright. God's son and greatest angel pouring his heart out to the children of heaven who, along with him, were taken too soon.

But we also know that you feel an underlying sadness because you miss your family and friends, because you knew how bright the future was and that future will never be fulfilled, because you felt free and happy in your new community and home, ready to soar like an eagle. Tragically, a deeply cruel and evil man couldn't stand to see you and Cory and your mutti so happy so he took the most precious thing you had away from you.

Your mutti once said that her biggest fear was that your life would be forgotten. That means it is the solemn duty of each and every warrior to never let that happen. It's one more sad fact that the anniversary of Dylan's murder is just days after Cory's birthday.  ::MonkeyTears::

Wonder if Mark reached out to Cory on his birthday in 2012, or did he blame him for his losing in court too?   

If Dylan's flight hadn't been rescheduled by the airline (which reportedly Mark was livid about), he would have even arrived in Durango a day earlier.

All of Dylan's loved ones are inflicting the best revenge on this monster possible, they are living well.  They are closer than ever, and are loving each other through this.

In a special 11 Call for Action Investigation, five women sat down with 11 News to talk about their heartbreaking stories. Each one has a child who was murdered or is missing. Their common bond is none of them know what happened.

It's been three years since Elaine Hall hugged her 13-year-old son, Dylan Redwine, and watched him board a plane to see his father. It was the last time Hall saw her son.

"This can happen to your child," said Elaine Hall.

Hall's son, Dylan Redwine, was murdered.

"Before it happened to my child it was just someone else’s child--and now it’s mine," she said.

Hall is one of five women with five heartbreaking stories coming together to let the world know their children's stories need to be told.

"We all have the same nightmares," said Rene Jackson.

Jackson's daughter, Lea Porter, was murdered.

"We don’t know what happened to our children," Jackson said.

Hall knows her son is dead. She's been to the spot where part of his remains were found in La Plata County. The discovery came seven months after her son disappeared during a court-ordered trip to see his father on Thanksgiving of 2012. Dylan's father Mark Redwine remains a person of interest in the case.

"To see where he was placed, to see where the bones were found, was so uncaring and such a cruel act from someone that Dylan trusted," said Hall.

They are five women with five stories no one can imagine living through finding support for each other.

"God I really hope you get to see Christopher one day, I really do, and Kelsie as well," said Hall to the mothers of Christopher Abeyta and Kelsie Schelling.

"I don't want my daughter to be forgotten and I don't want any of their children to be forgotten either," said Saxton.

"We want to know where our children are. They’re our children. We brought them into this world and we want to know where they are," said Jackson.

And they hope all of southern Colorado will be listening. Their message: if you know something, it’s time to come forward.

"The public needs to realize how important they are," said Abeyta. "They can give information. If they don't, they are as guilty as the person who did it."

"They have to come forward," said Kinslow. "They really have to come forward."

"I don't know how those people live with themselves, how they sleep at night," said Saxton.

"This really has changed us," said Hall. "This has changed all of us. We are never going to be the same. The joy that we had while our children were alive and the activities that we participated in have totally changed who we are as women today. There’s no way we can go back to where we were, because we’re different. There’s a part of our hearts that has been missing along with our children.”

Sometimes you just feel like you’re the only hurting, the only one in this situation, and you're not," said Hall. "It's sad and unfortunate but it's true."

All this week, KKTV 11 News will detail their children's individual stories with the hope that someone somewhere will know something that will bring their family the answers they so desperately want.

The last time Elaine Hall saw her 13-year-old son, she was putting him on a plane for a visit with his father.

"I dropped Dylan off at the airport and he was getting on a plane, and I said, 'Come on you’re not that big give your mom a hug,'" Hall said.

It was November of 2012, and Dylan Redwine was headed for a court-ordered visit with his father, Mark Redwine, near Durango.

Seven months later, parts of Dylan’s remains were found along a rural road not far from his father’s home.

"I didn’t feel any better after we found Dylan," said Hall. "I felt angrier, I think. After being there I think it made it worse because I felt so violated for him, I felt so sad for him."

Dylan’s death has since been ruled a homicide. Last summer, Dylan’s dad was named a person of interest in the case. I spoke with Mark Redwine on the phone. He denied any wrongdoing and said Dylan was his best friend.

Still, no formal suspect has been named, and Elaine Hall is pleading with police and prosecutors to keep moving forward. If anyone out there can bring forth new information, Elaine hopes it could be the break they need.

Today is the third anniversary of the disappearance of 13-year-old Dylan Redwine on a court-ordered visit to Vallecito with his father, Mark Redwine.

"Thank you for all your kind thoughts, silent prayers, love and mostly your dedication to Dylan," his mother, Elaine Hall, wrote on her Facebook page on Tuesday. "...I was overcome with gratitude and love for all that have taken the day that Dylan was taken and remembered him with your posts and picture changes. I am always at a loss for words when this time of year comes around because even though it has been three years, it still feels like yesterday and sometimes I still cannot believe he is gone. But, the one thing I do know is that he has truly blessed us with many great people who refuse to give up on him, or us. We will forge ahead because we all know we have to... for Dylan.

Hall reported him missing the next day, Nov. 19, 2012, after Redwine texted her asking if she knew where Dylan was.

In late June of this year, she filed a wrongful death lawsuit agasint her ex-husband.

In July, the La Plata County Sheriff's Department classified Dylan Redwine's death as a homicide and also said Mark Redwine is a person of interest in his son's death.

Partail remains of Dylan Redwine were found in June of 2013 on Middle Mountain, which is across the reservoir from Redwine's home on County Road 500.

Friends of Hall's continue to tend a memorial bench for Dylan in Pine River Cemetery.

"I love you all and thank you again, from the bottom of my heart, for your kindness, love, support and never ending devotion," she wrote in her post on Facebook. "God speed my son. I hope you see how many people love and miss you and we together will never let you be forgotten. Until I see you again you will always be where you belong..in my heart."

Why they would state the day the remains were found is odd to me, since from my understanding it was a very small portion of Dylan that was only positively identified by DNA, which took days to get the results.

I hope the suit can move forward, especially since he hasn't been charged with murder yet. 

But regardless of what happens with this, there's not a statute of limitations for our choices that are written in the Book of Life for which we will all be accountable one day.

"And, you know, I get up to go run my errands ‘cos I had a payroll issue that needed to be dealt with first thing Monday morning because that’s when payroll goes in, and so it was important for me to get down there as early as possible. Well, I wanted to leave at 6:30 so I would be there at 7:30 when they open the doors.

You know, I spent 45 minutes… an hour… trying to get Dylan to wake up and, you know, and helping him… saying, you know, “Dylan, I’m going down,” ‘cos he had talked to me about going to see his friend, Ryan …that morning, but he wasn’t having no part of it… which is not uncommon for him. I mean, you can’t get him to bed and you can’t get him up. Pretty much how it is when he’s not at school to deal with, which is most of the time when he’s up here, although he had a school bus stop right down the street, so he could ride the bus from the school up here if I was home, or he could ride it to his mom’s house, which was a thing of beauty because her and I didn’t have to deal with transporting him."

Mark, how did you spend 45 minutes to an hour trying to wake Dylan up on the 19th if your UNDISPUTED FACTS are that "On November 18th, 2012 Dylan disappeared from Defendant's (YOUR) home. How is that Mark? Did you screw up? Did the truth come out?

Well, there was some discussion he had had with me the night before about leaving with me so I could drop him off in the Bayfield area with one of his friends that had been trying to text him or he had been communicating with. (Breath) You know, as he indicated to me that he was up till 4:00 the morning before and that he was tired from being in the airport most of the day in his travels from Colorado Springs to Durango, I laughed at him kind of jokingly because I know him. If he ain’t gotta’ get up, he’s not likely to get up, and he’s not the kind of kid that’s going to get up at 6:30 if he doesn’t have to, but, you know, his friends are important, and I know they’re important to me, so, you know, there was a possibility but, it…it doesn’t surprise me that he…he elected not to get up when I left and when I left and he acknowledged that everything that I was saying to him and that I would be back he knew that when I came back I would be working on getting him down to his friends, and that’s part of the struggle that we all have is… you know, what happened to him between the time I left and the time I got back, and that’s what nobody seems to be able to answer.

Three years ago, it was easier for LE to believe Mark's insinuations that Dylan ran away from him because he was torn between his parents, than to follow procedures for a proper investigation during the holiday.  It made no sense then, and it makes no sense now.  But precious time was wasted, and we can't get that back.  Searches on the mountain were discouraged by LE, while they went door to door looking for Dylan.  One person that lives on Mark's road said LE never came to their door.  They took Mark at his word, and did not listen to Elaine who knew Dylan best.  Mark had 10 days to clean up his mess, and then he said Dylan didn't have any reason to run away...  I'm thankful that he underestimated Elaine's resolve, and the global support she would receive in her quest for justice for her baby.  Dylan was her mini me, and Mark thought this would destroy her.  A lot of relationships don't survive the loss of a child, he was counting on that too.  Wrong again.  They are stronger than ever, and I'm sure they're gathered with the ones they love and a spread fit for a king today.  Yes, there's an empty chair and there always will be.  He made that choice, no one else; and the universe won't rest until he's held accountable for it.

Remember the one public search that Mark attended along Florida road in early December?  The original search area was supposed to be of the forest, they were requesting skilled hikers, and then changed at the last minute to start 18 miles away.  And surprise, surprise, Mark shows up to search.  Once again, the search is directed away from where it needed to be.  The snow was falling within days, and Mark was safe for the winter.

Cold Case Update: New Developments In The Death Of Dylan Redwine

Last year at this time, we brought you the story of Dylan Redwine, a 13-year-old Colorado boy who disappeared while on a court-ordered visit with his father over Thanksgiving break in 2012. There have been some unusual developments in the last 12 months in this not-so-cold case.

Over the summer, the La Plata County Coroner officially ruled Dylan’s death a homicide. There has been no word released on the cause of death.

On June 29, 2015, Dylan’s mother, Elaine Hall, filed papers accusing Mark Redwine of the wrongful death of their son Dylan. She alleged that Mark’s negligence was directly responsible for Dylan’s death. Elaine repeatedly told reporters that she believed that Mark killed her son. While she did not have any direct evidence to prove it, she did say this: “Mark’s not talking with anyone. He’s not being cooperative with police, and so I just felt that it was time to start making him accountable.”

Mark Redwine filed a countersuit a few weeks later, alleging that Elaine lied about instances of domestic violence. He also stated that Elaine had brought “vitriolic and abusive litigation” upon him in the time since their 2005 divorce. To top it off, he alleged that she had done her best to get police to list him as a suspect. The countersuit even theorized that Dylan might have left Mark’s house at Elaine’s prompting in order for Dylan to meet whoever actually killed him. The judge rejected Mark’s motion to dismiss Elaine’s lawsuit.

On August 19, 2015, Mark Redwine was identified as a person of interest in the case. According to reports from the sheriff’s office, that identification was based on evidence collected during the investigation, Mark’s behavior since the investigation began, and some inconsistent statements Mark had made.

In September, a second search of where some of Dylan’s remains were found yielded more “items of interest.” According to reports, the last time anything was identified as such, it turned out to be some of Dylan’s remains. The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office was not forthcoming about what had been found.

After numerous discussions and interviews with police, Elaine Hall, her son Cory Redwine, and her husband Mike Hall were cleared of any involvement in Dylan’s death. The police are working to have further discussions with Mark Redwine about the case.

The coming holidays makes me think more about Dylan and his family along with all of the families of the missing, exploited, and murdered.  It must be such a heartache to have to go through the holiday without their family member and worse, not knowing where they are or what exactly happened.  I find myself thinking of Dylan more and more as the New Year approaches.  How many more New Years must pass without justice?

What I'd give to be a fly on the wall at your Christmas dinner table, what do you tell those who share a table with you?

Do you tell them about how a stranger came to Vallecito and took Dylan? murdered him and dumped him on a mountain side?

Do they know?

Do you tell them lies about what you think happened to your son?

Do they know the things that were found in your home? Do they know?

Do they know how many things lead us to just exactly who murdered Dylan? Do they know?

As they share your table, I hope they are able to look you in the eye. Do they know what you did?

As you enjoy your Christmas dinner, I hope you remember the little boy who's life you stole, as your time is coming to an end, I hope that you feel his presence each and every day and I hope it makes you break into a sweat.

I had to take that picture out of there.  Why do they put up so many pictures of the perp, suspect, person of interest, etc?  I realize they want to know if anyone saw him, but gee whiz.  Warn a girl!  Not in this case, but there are some cases where the suspect is a bigger name than the victim.  Near jumped right out of my skin, that face took up my whole computer.

I still don't understand why the small amount of bones they found makes these detectives confident this poor darling is deceased, but I don't hold the credentials these professionals do.  Aside from finding Dylan under the tree, the next thing that could possibly make this a Merry Christmas for the family of this missing innocent boy, is to have the person responsible for this unspeakable crime arrested.  Do it.

Santa, we are looking for the criminal, who dared to think about, devise a plan, and carry out such an atrocity as taking the life of an innocent child, to be placed in jail where he is not free to hurt anyone else.  

God, we need a miracle for Elaine's son as the day marking Your Own son's birth nears.  

Mary, Mother of our Lord, you know what it is like to watch the life of your innocent son be taken from him.  Please take some of the burden of her child's death off Dylan's mother's heart.  She is in such intense pain and needs something to ease this torture.  I know it will not bring her child back, nor will it heal the hole in her heart, but it will allow her to go to bed at night knowing the police are doing something towards getting the person off the street who would dare murder her child.

Lord, you know what it was like to be betrayed and murdered by someone you trusted.  Please help Elaine in her sorrow, and please lead the police to the evidence necessary to be able to put the sick individual who is responsible for the death of Dylan Redwine in prison and away from the public; getting away with this crime for so long may tempt this individual to perform another unspeakable act.  Please keep our children safe from all harm tonight and forever.

Dearest Bearly,
I feel as you do and join you in prayer.

I don't believe the authorities would pronounce Dylan as deceased if there was a chance he could be alive.  Their assessment may not be made on just the small amount of bone found, but on which bones  or fragments they were, possibly spine, skull, etc, and it would indicate Dylan was no longer alive.  Sad.  ::MonkeyTears::  So sad. 

I am thankful for all that have searched and continue to search and help bring Dylan home.  I pray there will be justice for Dylan.  Soon.  ::MonkeyAngel::

LA PLATA COUNTY, Colo. —Saturday would have been Dylan Redwine’s 17th birthday.

Dylan went missing near Vallecito, Lake Colorado in November 2012.  Dylan was vising his father, Mark Redwine, over Thanksgiving break when he went missing. His remains were found by police a year later.

La Plata County sheriff’s deputies said his father was the last person to see Dylan alive. He became a person of interest, but to this day no one was been arrested for Dylan’s death.

Mark Redwine has remained quiet over the years, but Dylan’s mother and aunt have not. They said they are frustrated that the last few years have been such a roller-coaster, but they are glad to at least have some closure.

Dylan’s family plans to celebrate his birthday by eating cake since he loved cake. They will also participate in a walk to honor another Colorado teenager who went missing and was never found.

Dylan’s mother is also working to help create a bill that would make it illegal to disturb human remains. The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office said they are also frustrated that they have not made any progress in the case but have not forgotten about Dylan and never will. They said the case is still open. A $50,000 reward is still out for any information leading to an arrest.

The mothers of three children who went missing or were killed in unsolved Colorado cases spoke in favor of a bill last week that would create harsher penalties for those convicted of tampering with dead bodies in an effort to hide evidence.

Elaine Hall, the mother of Dylan Redwine, who went missing when he was 13 years old from his father's house outside of Durango, urged members of the Senate Judiciary Committee to approve Senate Bill 34.

"We continue to search for the rest of Dylan's remains," Hall said, describing how just a few of Dylan's remains were found scattered all over Middle Mountain a few miles from his father's house. "While a person of interest, his father, has been named we continue to fight for justice for Dylan and hope at some point the district attorney in Durango will actually do something to bring justice in Dylan's case."

Hall noted that Dylan would have turned 17 on Feb. 6, so "you can imagine this time of year is very difficult for my family, but working toward changes that would help all families in our state also helps us cope with the loss of Dylan."

The bill passed out of committee on a 3-2 vote.

LA PLATA COUNTY - A filing mistake led to the dismissal of the wrongful death lawsuit against Mark Redwine by his ex-wife, Elaine, with regards to the death of theri son Dylan, 9Wants To Know has learned.

According to an attorney for Elaine Redwine, the wrongful death suit was filed four days after the statute of limitations had run out on filing such a suit.

The suit was filed in July 2015 claiming that Mark was responsible in the death of their son Dylan.

According to court records, the suit was officially dismissed on Dec. 28, 2015. According to Amber Cone, the court ruled the suit should have been filed two years after the date his remains were discovered. The wrongful death suit was actually filed two years after the date the Redwine’s were notified the remains that were found belonged to Dylan. That was a difference of just four days.

VALECCITO, Colo. — A wrongful death lawsuit filed against Mark Redwine by his ex-wife, Elaine Redwine, has been dismissed.

Elaine Redwine said the statute of limitations in the case ran out because it was filed a few days late.

Elaine Redwine’s attorney filed the lawsuit in July, alleging Dylan Redwine’s father, Mark Redwine, was responsible for the boy’s death.

Dylan was last seen at his father’s home in Vallecito in November 2012. Some of his remains were discovered in 2013.

“We are very disappointed with the judge’s ruling as we could not confirm the remains were Dylan’s until they were positively identified as Dylan’s later,” Elaine Redwine told FOX31 Denver in an exclusive interview.

“We will continue on with the criminal case.”

Although the civil lawsuit has been tossed out, the criminal case is moving forward, she said.

Investigators labeled Mark Redwine a person of interest in the case in 2015.

He says Dylan deserves a proper burial, but over three years later, he's still not lifting a finger to search for him.  Not a word about searching for a murderer either.  Anyone with common sense knows why.

There was nothing frivolous about Elaine's lawsuit.  I guarantee you Mark was sweating it, since it was the only attempt to hold him accountable at all so far.  He would have been forced to testify and we all know what happens when he starts talking.  Let's see how far he gets proving defamation, since he (the only named person of interest in Dylan's homicide) will have to be deposed for that one too.  

Mr. Redwine, please describe for the court all items of your property that are still in the possession of LaPlata County or any other agency investigating your son's death?

The only known perpetrator of violence in this child's life, has the gall to shame Elaine in his name?  Acting in a vengeful manner?  The fact that Mark Redwine is still walking around free and breathing after over three years of taunting and gloating, is testament enough to the peaceful mentality of Dylan's loved ones and their supporters imo.

Yes, Dylan was a loving, compassionate child.  I can only imagine what he would have to say about why his own father murdered him, threw him off a mountainside to be ravaged by wildlife, watched over the location from his front porch, and went back months later to gather what he could to hide evidence and continue to deny him a proper burial!

Dylan's only loving father was Michael Hall, I think that's what Dylan would say, and Mark knows it.  Maybe that's why he did this and has no remorse?  Fact is, that was his choice.  His kids were never anything more than pawns to him, the last few months of Dylan's life only emphasize that.  I'm glad Dylan actually knew a "real dad" in his life before he was so cruelly taken from this world.  

Unfortunately, Mark and his supporters can say anything they wish to twist the knife, and count on the Durango Herald to publish it, with no regard for the victims in this case.  Shameful imo, so I'm glad Elaine or her attorney didn't make time for them.

I searched court records, and there is nothing pending.

The records show that Mark's counterclaim was in response to Elaine's wrongful death suit, and that case is CLOSED.

There is no other pending lawsuit in the court records at this time.

I guess fact checking would be too much to ask of the local newspaper before publishing what the only named Person of Interest in the case has to say?!!!
