I came across this in the paper today - I had not heard of this before, even though it is not all that far from me.

This sounds like Teleka  is a great young woman that was working hard - her family has a letter to her in the above article. It is perplexing what happened to her. She was working as a psychiatric resident - makes me wonder if one of her patients followed her? Did she have and accident and wander off (which I always find strange in this day of cell phones) or did something else happen?  I feel so bad for this family.

It is. While the car was found in Portage INDIANA, Portage Michigan is very close to K'zoo.  To me it is very strange.

Teleka Patrick tried to check in to Kalamazoo hotel on Dec. 5, car was seen driving 'erratically' on I-94, police say
on December 16, 2013 at 6:11 PM

KALAMAZOO, MI – On the night she was last seen, Teleka Patrick tried to check in at the Radisson Plaza Hotel & Suites in downtown Kalamazoo, but eventually had to hitch a ride from a hotel courtesy van driver after she wasn’t able to get a room, investigators said Monday.

Those were among new details Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Pali Matyas released Monday, 11 days after Patrick, 30, a first-year medical resident in psychiatry at the WMU School of Medicine, was last seen heading to her gold 1997 Lexus ES300 in the parking lot of Borgess Medical Center on Gull Road.

Indiana State Police later found Patrick’s Lexus in a ditch off westbound I-94 near Portage, Ind., at about 10:20 p.m. CST on Dec. 5. Matyas said the agency received a report from a caller who said Patrick’s car, with one person inside, was driving erratically along the highway.

Patrick was reported missing on Dec. 6 after she failed to show up for work in Kalamazoo. Patrick has been in Kalamazoo since July and as a medical resident worked at Borgess and Bronson Methodist Hospital.

Indiana State Police investigators have said they’ve done several searches for Patrick, including the night that her car was located on the highway. The searches have been done on foot, with the use of a bloodhound and an all-terrain vehicle.

First Sgt. Al Williamson said previously that the search with the bloodhound was done on Thursday. The search with the ATV was done on Friday. Police have been focusing on a one-mile radius near the Porter/Burns Harbor exit off I-94.

On Monday, Matyas said that when the bloodhound searched the area where Patrick’s car was found, the dog went “from the car right straight out to the road so the presumption is that someone picked her up and, at that point, it could have been anybody.”

Does anyone know what time she was dropped off at her car? I did not see it in any of our local articles. Also, did anyone read what time she tried to check into the hotel?  To get from K'zoo to Portage Indiana is about 1.5 to 2 hours depending on traffic and weather. If her car was found at 10:15 pm CST that would mean that she had to leave the hotel by 915 to 930 - it is really dark then here. What could have happened between getting out of work (which since she is a psych resident may have been as early at 5 or 6) and 9 pm?  Why did she not bring her car with her to the hotel?  The hotel is not an easy walk from the hospital - it is at least 2 miles - a long way in michigan cold. Something in this case is bothering me.

This isn't sounding good at all for Teleka.  It reminds me of cases in the past, where a person tries to enter a restaurant or bar (in this case, to get a hotel room) isn't able and later  turns up missing.  ::MonkeyNoNo::

Prayer Vigil Held for Teleka Patrick; More Details on the Night of Her Disappearance

More Background Regarding the Night of Teleka Patrick’s Disappearance

On the evening of December 5th, Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Pali Matyas said Teleka Patrick was at the Radisson Hotel in Downtown Kalamazoo. She needed a ride back to her car at Borgess Hospital where she works. The undersheriff said a hotel shuttle driver drove Patrick to her car. He’s the last person known to have seen her. The male driver has been ruled out as a suspect, the department confirmed.

Indiana State Police said surveillance videos from area businesses – located near her abandoned vehicle – were checked. A detective said nothing in the videos showed Patrick or her vehicle (which sat on I-94).

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) - New details in the disappearance of a Kalamazoo doctor are shedding light on what happened before she went missing.

Teleka Patrick, 30, was last seen Dec. 5 in Kalamazoo after spending the evening in the downtown area.

Monday, Kalamazoo County sheriff’s officials said Patrick had attempted to get a room at the Radisson Plaza Hotel on W. Michigan Avenue the night she went missing, but for some reason, was unable to do so.

A hotel employee then gave Patrick a ride in a hotel courtesy transportation van to her car, which was located at a parking lot at Borgess Medical Center.

Patrick didn’t appear to be intoxicated at the time, sheriff’s officials said.

Indiana State Police said later that night, someone called police about a person driving erratically on a stretch of I-94 near Porter, Ind.

According to police, the car matched the description of Patrick’s car, and was occupied by one person.

Patrick’s car was later found abandoned within about 10 miles of the location of the erratically driven car, police said.

While some of Patrick’s belongings were found in the abandoned car, her purse was not.

According to a family member, Patrick was last seen by a motel clerk in the Portage, Ind. area asking for directions.

The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department was notified about Patrick’s disappearance on Dec. 6 after she didn’t show up for her psychiatry residency at Western Michigan University School of Medicine.

Family friends are using social media to spread the word about Patrick’s disappearance. The Twitter hashtag #FindTeleka was created, a Facebook group was created and a friend uploaded a video to YouTube showcasing Patrick's family talking about what they love about her

Theboyzmom, here's a possible timeline.

Vigil scheduled for missing woman
Updated: Monday, December 16 2013, 07:29 PM EST

 ::snipping3::
Investigators have pieced together a timeline of what she did the night of Thursday the fifth when she was last seen.

They say At 7:25 she left Borgess where she is a resident of psychiatry. Deputies say she left her personal cell phone and work I.D. at her office.

A co-worker agreed to drive her to the Radisson in downtown Kalamazoo.

At around 7:30 she tried to get a room at the Radisson but she didn't have enough money.

At 8:00 the hotel shuttle drove her back to Borgess when she got into her car.

Then later at 10:14 911 calls started coming to the Indiana State Police of an erratic driver going west on Interstate 94. Police believe the driver was Teleka Patrick and she was alone.

"A good thing for us is the information we received from the Indiana state police is that a single person was seen in the vehicle when the reports were coming in of the erratic driving,” says Kalamazoo County Sheriff Rick Fuller.

Ten minutes later her car was spotted parked, empty, 40 feet off the road at mile marker 23.

Her family tells us that was then they realized she could be in real danger.

“When they reported on Tuesday they found her car in a ditch, that took me for a loop, I was devastated, hysterically crying," says Teleka’s mother Irene Patrick.

Indiana State Police say they again today interviewed people all around where the car was abandoned hoping someone saw her.

"One of the things we know from the information they're giving us is that it appears to them someone left the vehicle and walked straight back to the highway 40 feet and that's where the trail was lost," says Fuller.

Investigators say they also have searched her apartment and say she appears to have left all her belongings and didn't pack anything.

Thanks! Our local paper said that there were not times available. They also reported she was spending " time out in downtown Kalamazoo" - then went to try to get a room at the Radisson.

Teleka Patrick: Man Believes He May Have Spoken to Missing Doctor
1 hour ago

PORTAGE, Indiana – Eli Soto works as a custodian at the Comfort Inn off of I-94 in Portage, indiana.

He believes he may have had a quick encounter with 30-year-old Teleka Patrick around the time she went missing. He said a woman in a car similar to Patrick’s gold Lexus stopped him in the parking lot to ask for directions to Gary, indiana.

“She just said that she was kind of lost, and she would like to know how to get to Gary. If you could get to Gary going this way,” Soto illustrated.

The hotel is visible from I-94, specifically exit 22, where Patrick’s car was found abandoned on the side of the freeway the night of December 5th. Her last confirmed sighting was earlier that evening in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

“I did not see anything wrong with her behavior, absolutely not. When [Indiana State Police] showed me the sketch, what caught my attention was her hair. [It] was straight,” Soto said Patrick’s picture looked similar to the woman he gave directions to.

But the timing of when he saw the woman he spoke to and the direction she drove away in doesn’t fit with information police have released. However, it is welcomed information for Patrick’s family. Dwayne Duncombe is her cousin. He lives in Crete, Illinois about 30 minutes from where her Lexus was found. He said there’s lots of questions but no answers

Teleka Patrick's parents wonder if cellphone call holds clue to what happened to Kalamazoo doctor
on December 18, 2013 at 6:00 PM, updated December 18, 2013 at 6:44 PM

KALAMAZOO, MI – Irene Patrick can’t help but wonder if a phone call her daughter received Dec. 4 could provide an important clue in Dr. Teleka Patrick's disappearance and ultimately help bring her home.

So, more than once on Wednesday, she spoke of the phone call, which her 30-year-old daughter received while attending a lecture as part of her medical residency with the WMU School of Medicine.

A person in the room noted a change in Teleka Patrick’s demeanor after she ended the call, Irene Patrick said she and her family were told by officials at the School of Medicine.

“Her response to that call, that’s a big question to be answered,” Irene Patrick said, as she sat Wednesday inside a Kalamazoo hotel where she and her husband, Mattahais, and the couple’s daughter, Tenesha, have set up camp waiting to hear word on Teleka Patrick’s whereabouts.

“… Her demeanor changed, she dropped her head in her hand. That’s all they told us.”

Patrick, 30, who came to Kalamazoo this past summer to begin her first of four years as a medical resident in psychiatry, has not been seen since the evening of Dec. 5 when she was dropped off at her car – a gold 1997 Lexus ES300 -- in the parking lot of Borgess Medical Center on Gull Road.

Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Pali Matyas said Wednesday that investigators are aware of the reported phone call that Patrick received on Dec. 4, but declined to elaborate.

It is troubling to me if she was heading to Gary - there is not much there and it is a dangerous place. My son once stopped there on his way home from school with a football player friend of his - both were scared to death and pumped 2 dollars of gas - enough to get them out of there.

Good Morning America report on Teleka Patrick shows surveillance footage from night of her disappearance

The report includes surveillance footage of Patrick at the Radisson Plaza Hotel & Suites in downtown Kalamazoo on the night of her disappearance. Patrick has been missing for two weeks, and her disappearance has begun to receive national coverage with a segment on Nancy Grace Wednesday night.

The surveillance video also shows Patrick walking on a sidewalk outside the hotel by a hotel van with a time stamp of 7:34 p.m. In the video, Patrick appears to be walking normally with no visible signs of drunkenness.

I wish that LE would get a real time line - this story says that she was trying to get a room "after a night out"  Other stories say that she left work at 7:25  - if both are true she had a SHORT night out

It seems that we are not getting all of the correct facts because the information is coming from the news reports, family, and the LE is holding back information because of the investigation.  Added to that, why are there reports of her being seen at the hotel, Comfort Inn, and driving erratically?  Does she want people to remember/notice her?  Is the person really Teleka?  Too many questions remain unanswered.  ::MonkeyNoNo::

Why would she leave her purse and phone at work at Borgess Hospital, get a friend to drive her downtown, where she would attempt to check into the Radisson only to learn she didn’t have enough cash?

Why did she then get the hotel to drive her back to the Hospital, get in her car and immediately leave town, despite the fact that she was due at work the next morning.

Her dad says she had her own place in kalamazoo. He wonders why she didn't she just go there? Why didn't she tell anyone where she was going?.

A police source close to the search says they know why but aren’t releasing the information because it might jeopardize their investigation.

I have been wondering if  the phone call, that people said made her distressed, that she got during a seminar (mentioned in another article) made her afraid to go back to her apartment for some reason. That's the only thing I can think of.

The whole thing doesn't really make sense.

Breaking Details in the Search For Missing Kalamazoo Doctor Teleka Patrick
5 mins ago

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – FOX 17 is following breaking developments in the case of a missing doctor from Kalamazoo.

The group “Find Teleka” just issued new details to FOX 17 about their search for 30-year-old Teleka Patrick.

-Investigators have seized Teleka’s computers and are reviewing their contents.
 ::snipping3::
The group also released this statement:

On behalf of Mattahais & Irene Patrick,

Teleka has been missing for 15 days and this nightmare still isn’t over.

While we are thankful for your coverage of Teleka’s story, we are still desperate to find her.  Our hearts are aching with the thought that we may not have her in our arms for Christmas.  Christmas is a time for family, and ours won’t be complete unless she is here with us laughing and smiling.

We are still working with the Kalamazoo Sheriffs Department, the Indiana State Police and our private investigator.  We don’t know much which makes her disappearance that much scarier. The $10,000 reward has been posted for any information leading to Teleka being found.

The details surrounding her disappearance are so murky that we can’t help but speculate the worst.  Our questions have gone from WHERE is she, to WHO has her?  How is it possible for a 30 year old physician to just simply disappear?  We are confused and heartbroken

We are so frightened, and can’t imagine what Teleka must be feeling.  The fear of not being with family, lost and alone.  WHERE IS SHE???

We pray every second of every hour that she is not just alive but safe.

The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department released this statement to FOX 17:

Family sends update on latest in missing woman investigation
Updated: Friday, December 20 2013, 04:11 PM EST

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The family of a missing Kalamazoo doctor has offered an update to where things stand now in the hunt for the woman.

Family and friends say that police have seized the computers of 30-year-old Teleka Patrick, and are reviewing the computers' contents.

Patrick went missing December 5, after being last seen in the parking lot of Borgess Medical Center where she worked as a psychiatry resident. All of her belongings, minus her wallet and keys, were left at the hospital.

Police have also obtained warrants for both Patrick's work and personal email accounts in their search for clues.

They are also keeping an eye on her bank account and credit card activity. There has been no movement in either.

I have been wondering if  the phone call, that people said made her distressed, that she got during a seminar (mentioned in another article) made her afraid to go back to her apartment for some reason. That's the only thing I can think of.

The whole thing doesn't really make sense.

Oops.. That phone call was the day before.

Quote
Patrick received the call the day before she disappeared when she was attending a lecture for her residency at WMU School of Medicine, Patrick's mother told MLive. School officials told Patrick's family that someone saw Patrick's body language changed after the call ended.

With 13 years of schooling behind her in pursuit of her dream of being a doctor in child psychiatry, Patrick was in her first year as a medical resident with the WMU School of Medicine.
 ::snipping3::
Irene Patrick said the last time she spoke to her daughter was by phone on Dec. 1, as Patrick was on her way back to Kalamazoo from spending the weekend with family in Chicago for Thanksgiving.
 ::snipping3::
For the next nine years, she called Loma Linda, Calif., home where she attended the Loma Linda University School of Medicine on a scholarship.

It was there that her passion for child psychiatry grew and also where she met her husband, who she was married to for four years before the couple divorced in 2011, Patrick’s family said.

Tenesha Patrick said her sister’s interest in child psychiatry was fueled during her sister’s time with her ex-husband, who had a young son with autism.
 ::snipping3::
Now, 24 days since she sat with Gardner and her family that Thanksgiving night, and three weeks since she last spoke to her mother, Patrick’s family is prayerful and hopeful they’ll have her home for Christmas.

Irene Patrick spoke this week of how her daughter had already purchased a plane ticket to be with her parents in Florida from Dec. 23-30.

“We want her home with us,” Irene Patrick said. “We want everyone to have this picture etched in their minds of this lovely girl and her parents whose hearts are breaking.

“Our hearts just ache for her.”

Teleka Patrick was stressed, agitated but reason why remains mystery, private investigator says
on December 23, 2013 at 4:13 PM, updated December 23, 2013 at 8:13 PM

KALAMAZOO, MI — On the night she went missing, Dr. Teleka Patrick was stressed and experiencing “a level of agitation,” a private investigator hired by Patrick’s family said Monday.

However, the source of that stress and its connection to Patrick’s disappearance on Dec. 5 remain a mystery, said Carl H. Clatterbuck III, who runs a private investigation agency in Kalamazoo.

“What I do know is there was a level of agitation she was experiencing and if I knew specifically what was causing the stress, I might be able to better understand how she was thinking and how that thinking got her into the car moving westerly,” Clatterbuck said. “That is the mystery that we are trying to unravel.

“Why was she agitated?, Why did she head west? Why did she do any of these things? … That’s the core of what this is about.”

Missing Doctor Felt “Heightened Sense of Agitation” Before Disappearance
2 hours ago

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – FOX 17 News has uncovered newly discovered online videos of a doctor who went missing in Kalamazoo.

FOX 17 News spoke with the family’s private eye, Carl Clatterbuck Thursday afternoon who had already seen the videos.  He called the findings ‘disturbing,’ questioning Patrick’s state of mind in the time leading up to when she went missing.  He also said it is clear Teleka didn’t feel safe in Kalamazoo and provided new information about clues he discovered.

The private investigator says the hotel shuttle driver who drove Teleka to her car the night of her disappearance says she acted as though she thought someone was following her or might be looking for her.

Though Teleka may not have felt safe in Kalamazoo, Clatterbuck says it’s unlikely someone was following her.

Clatterbuck says Teleka seemed to be in a “heightened sense of agitation.”  He says she was under tremendous stress in her residency and often goes without sleep.
 ::snipping3::
Clatterbuck says family is not aware of  Teleka having a serious boyfriend.  He says a man she was seeing on-and-off was questioned with no leads to Teleka.   Clatterbuck adds that Teleka’s ex husband is not considered a suspect and that no one really knows who those videos were made for.

Last week, the FBI announced it was assisting in the investigation which is being headed by the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department.  The family also said last week it hired a private investigator to look into their daughter’s disappearance and provided information about new clues in the case.

Teleka Patrick YouTube videos show missing Kalamazoo doctor singing to love interest
on December 26, 2013 at 6:26 PM, updated December 26, 2013 at 7:07 PM

KALAMAZOO, MI – In two YouTube videos uploaded last month, Dr. Teleka Patrick sings songs to an apparent love interest and, at one point, shows off a breakfast she made for the person.

“Hi, Love, it’s me,” Patrick says in one of the videos, which was uploaded Nov. 10 under the username, “sandra3000cassie.” The video is titled “Surprise! Final video” with a caption that reads, “I wish you were here with me.”

It’s unclear who Patrick, 30, made the videos for and she makes no mention of any names in the videos.

The videos are the latest development in a case that began Dec. 5 when Patrick disappeared following a day of work at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.

Carl H. Clatterbuck III, a private investigator hired by Patrick’s family, said Thursday he does not think the videos “had anything to do with her disappearance,” however he does want to know more about who Patrick made them for.

“When you watch it, you have to wonder who is the beneficiary of all of this and I don’t know,” said Clatterbuck.

“It makes me wonder who she’s doing this for and I don’t know yet who she’s doing it for. It’s another mystery in the investigation to find her … the only person who I think could answer the question of who she’s making this video for would be Teleka.”

Investigators Focus On Missing Doctor’s “State of Mind”
1 hour ago

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Private Investigator Carl Clatterbuck was hired by the family of Kalamazoo doctor Teleka Patrick family to help search for the missing 30-year-old doctor.

He says Teleka was in a “heightened sense of agitation” before disappearing and is now searching for answers about her state of mind.

Teleka deleted her Twitter account, but videos she appears to have posted on a site called Twicsy through her Twitter still remain.

In the videos, Clatterbuck sees what he describes as “disturbing” behavior. He tells us family says that is not normal behavior for Teleka.

Clatterbuck says Teleka has never been diagnosed with mental illness but was in a very stressful residency program and goes without sleep frequently.

The private investigator says it’s clear Teleka felt unsafe in Kalamazoo seeking out to stay at a hotel just miles from herapartment more than once.

Clatterbuck says it’s unlikely someone was following Teleka.

As for the phone call the day before Teleka’s disappearance that friends say upset her, Clatterbuck say phone records show nothing out of the ordinary.  The person on the other end was questioned without any leads to her.

Now, investigators are focusing on the short window between when Teleka’s gold Lexus was reported in a ditch on I-94 in Indiana, and when police arrived to find the car abandoned.

Clatterbuck says Teleka’s car was found with a flat front tire, which he believes explains the 911 calls reporting her erratic driving.

K-9 Units tracked a scent from the car to the highway but the trail ended there.

Teleka Patrick: Parents Release Statement Regarding Newfound Videos of Missing Doctor

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Dr. Teleka Patrick, 30, has been missing since December 5th. YouTube videos of her (speaking to a romantic interest) surfaced this week. The videos’ upload dates are November 8th and 10th. Her parents released the following statement late Thursday night:

Our hearts are saddened that Teleka was not with us yesterday for Christmas.  We are aware of the YouTube videos that have surfaced today.  However, their relevance to her disappearance remains a mystery. These videos have led to more questions than answers.  To our knowledge, Teleka was not in a romantic relationship and it is unclear to whom she is making reference in the videos.  We pray that Teleka is safe and remain hopeful that we will find her soon.

Kalamazoo doctor's disappearance 'a big mystery'

 ::snipping3::
Her cellphone and purse were found at work, where she apparently deliberately left them behind, investigators said.

Investigators have learned Patrick completed her regular shift on Dec. 5, but instead of going to her apartment just three miles away, she left her car in the hospital lot and asked a co-worker to drive her to the Radisson Plaza Hotel Suites on West Michigan Avenue in downtown Kalamazoo between 7:30 and 8 p.m. that night.

Clatterbuck said Patrick apparently did not have enough cash to get a room and had a hotel courtesy shuttle drive her back to her car at the Borgess parking lot.

“There seems to have been some effort to remain anonymous or for people not to know what she was doing,” said Clatterbuck. “Why not use a credit card? And since when does a 30-year-old in this age leave their purse and cellphone behind? Especially if they are planning a road trip of any kind.

“And when she got back to her car, the shuttle driver said she seemed nervous — even ducking down between vehicles —as if she was afraid of being seen by someone.

“I would say she was agitated but if she was worried about something or someone, she never told anyone about it.”

Clatterbuck said the shuttle driver watched Patrick get inside her car and drive away from the lot.
 ::snipping3::
“I would like to broaden the search for her now with a public request that anyone driving in that area on Dec. 5 — between Indiana’s Highway 49 and Highway 20 — to think about whether they saw anything unusual,” said Clatterbuck. “Maybe someone walking along the road. Maybe another vehicle that might have stopped there.

“From when she left the hospital lot to her car being found is just about the time it would have taken her to drive the distance without going anywhere else,” he said. “I don’t think there was time for anything else to happen and she drove herself there for unexplained reasons but then something happened.”

Clatterbuck said Patrick did have a relative and also a friend who live in the Chicago area, but neither had any recent contact with Patrick.

Mysterious disappearance of Michigan doctor Teleka Patrick stumps investigators
10:11 PM, December 27, 2013

Irene Patrick anxiously paced her home Christmas Day, with one question in mind: Where was her daughter, Teleka?
 ::snipping3::
“She’s one fine girl I’ll love for the rest of my life,” Irene Patrick said Friday from her home in Kissimmee, Fla. She hired a private investigator to assist in the case, which is being handled by the Indiana State Police, the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI.

“The family is currently heavily involved in looking for evidence,” Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller said. “We’re ...seeking out information and taking it in different directions. There isn’t enough information to speculate.”

Here’s what authorities say they’ve pieced together so far in the time leading up to Patrick’s disappearance:
 ::snipping3::
The question, investigators say, is what caused her to drive more than 100 miles west without her cell phone and purse and without alerting her friends and family. She had purchased an airline ticket to visit her parents in Florida and was supposed to arrive Dec. 23.

“There has to be some triggering event to make a person in their 30s leave their phone anywhere,” said Carl Clatterbuck, the Kalamazoo private investigator. “Phones for anyone between the ages of 14 and 35 are a large part of their life, to leave it means that you’re leaving all of your friends, relatives, all of your connection to the world. That suggested to me that she wanted to be away from something, and to not be tracked.”

Clatterbuck said Patrick received a phone call the day before she disappeared that may have agitated her, but he was told that there was “nothing remarkable” to be seen in her phone records. Clatterbuck confirmed that she had an “on-again, off-again” boyfriend, but he is not a suspect and the two were on good terms. Patrick’s ex-husband, Clatterbuck said, also is not a suspect because they haven’t had any contact in two years.

However, YouTube videos surfaced this week of Patrick singing to a suspected love interest at her home in the Gull Run Apartments. One video, posted to an account titled “sandra3000cassie” in early November, shows a breakfast she made for the person and her saying, “I just wanted to show you what I made, first I start with, if you were here, this is what would be your plate,” panning to a table set for two, with orange juice, Morningstar veggie bacon, pancakes and omelets. In another video, she refers to the person she’s addressing as “baby” or “love.”

Irene Patrick said she didn’t know to whom Teleka Patrick was referring in the videos.

“She didn’t tell me about her private life; she was an adult,” Irene Patrick said. “But I wish she had.”

Private investigator, family plead for help after videos of missing Michigan doctor surface online
Published December 31, 2013

At least 9 videos of Patrick were uploaded to YouTube in early November, according to Fox 17, and were discovered in recent weeks.

“I don’t know what’s going on ... in your life and stuff. I have an idea but I don’t know everything. So you know, I just figured you do your best and I do my best and we give each other a chance,” Patrick says to the camera in one of the videos.

In other videos, Patrick shows off a meal she cooked and calls the person she’s speaking to her “baby,” and that she loves them, WOFL reports.

“I’d like to know who that is, who she’s trying to communicate with,” Carl Clatterbuck, the investigator, told Fox 17. “I’d love to talk to that person.”

“We are desperately seeking any witnesses that may have seen some kind of an exchange,” he added.

Teleka Patrick: Parents of missing Michigan doctor suffer in Kissimmee

 ::snipping3::
Her family hired a private investigator and handed out fliers in the area where Teleka Patrick vanished but they are no closer to finding her, family members said.

"Every day I am glued to the phone to hear something," Irene Patrick said. "I am desperate."

Teleka Patrick is the oldest of three and the only child to follow through on a family desire they all become doctors. Her mother said she was raised in New York.

She moved to Michigan after earning a medical degree from Loma Linda University in California this spring. Teleka Patrick flirted with research and fell in love with the idea of becoming a psychiatrist.

Though they were far apart for much of Patrick's years of study, the faithful daughter made it a point to call her mother every Sunday when both their schedules allowed it.

School was tough but "the stress was doable," Teleka Patrick told her mother while thanking her for teaching her how to focus and discipline herself in work.

In one of their last conversations, Teleka Patrick recounted her Thanksgiving spent with a cousin in Chicago but it was cut short because Irene Patrick, a nurse, had night duty at the hospital.

"We always say we love you," she said. It was the last time Patrick heard her daughter's voice.

Teleka Patrick didn't tell her parents where she was going or if she was seeing someone new — an avenue investigators are exploring after YouTube videos of her singing and preparing breakfast for someone surfaced online. But no solid leads have emerged, Irene Patrick said.

"We are one of faith and we believe she will back and alive," she said.

For the first time ever, the man who shared his life with missing Kalamazoo doctor Teleka Patrick for years is speaking out as the story goes international.

Patrick, 30, has been missing since Dec. 5. She was last seen that night in the parking lot of Borgess Hospital, where her car was parked. That car was later found near Porter, Ind.

Her ex-husband spoke only to Target 8 about how they met, her deep religious convictions and troubling signs of what he believed was a severe mental illness.

VIDEO: Michigan woman posted bizarre YouTube videos to 'baby' before disappearing Dec. 5
Monday, December 30, 2013, 2:28 PM

 ::snipping3::
Police have been searching for Patrick but she has not reached out to anyone since her disappearance. But a few bizarre YouTube videos show her reaching out to a mystery person — and a private investigator hired by the family is wondering if she was delusional when she went missing.

In the videos, Patrick — posting under the name sandra3000cassie — converses with her "baby" and shares intimate details of her day. She also spends a good amount of time serenading the camera.

Trouble is, Patrick's family and friends have no knowledge of her being in a relationship. They insist she was single at the time of her disappearance, private investigator Carl H. Clatterbuck III told the Daily News on Monday.

He also said there is no record of Patrick texting or emailing these YouTube videos to anyone.
 ::snipping3::
But Clatterbuck doesn't believe at this point Patrick left to join her mystery love.

He has a theory that Patrick was attempting to hide from someone and get "off the grid."

On the night she was last seen she tried to check into a hotel only a few miles from her apartment, he said. The hotel was full so she took a shuttle back to her work and the driver said she darted through cars as if she was trying to lose someone who may be following her, he said.

"I'm making a jump (with the theory) but it's not much of a jump," he said. "It's clear she was worried about something."

Putting together the bizarre videos she made, the weird hotel thing and her behavior in the parking lot I was beginning to wonder if she was stalking someone who was staying at that hotel.  However some sort of personality disorder would also explain it.  She could very easily be holing up somewhere.  It's such an odd story.

Missing doctor's ex: This is a red alert
Updated: Wednesday, January 1, 2014, 11:03 PM EST
Published: Wednesday, January 1, 2014, 7:25 PM EST

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Ismael Calderon doesn't dispute the good that has been reported about missing Kalamazoo Dr. Teleka Patrick, but said it's not the whole story.

Calderon, who was married to Patrick from 2006 to 2011,said she also suffered from what he suspects was a serious mental illness.

Patrick has not been seen since Dec. 5 after she was dropped off at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo. Her car was later found abandoned along an Indiana highway.  There was no sign of Patrick.

"I believe it's a serious concern because every day that she's still missing, it's a danger," Calderon said. "This is a tragedy. I don't think she's hiding somewhere. I think she's being held against her will or the worst."

Calderon said he and Patrick's marriage started to crumble after he pressured her to seek mental help. When she refused, he left her out of concern for his safety and that of his children from a previous relationship.

"I think that Teleka had this fear of first, being branded with a mental illness," said Calderon. "Second, the practical fear of losing her career."

Reports that Patrick seemed agitated and afraid during the last times she was known to be seen don't surprise Calderon.

He said he also has witnessed firsthand the erratic driving reported on the highway before Patrick's Lexus was found in Indiana. He said he suspects she experiencing a delusion and fearing someone was chasing her.

It's what happened next that has him confused.

"Teleka, right now, she would have responded," Calderon said. "This is a serious situation. She's not just on vacation right now."

While the FBI and authorities in two states have gotten involved in the investigation, Calderon said he has not been contacted about the case. He said he fears that someone may have taken advantage of Patrick during a delusional episode.

PPO: Teleka Patrick stalked Marvin Sapp
Updated: Thursday, January 2, 2014, 6:55 PM EST
Published: Thursday, January 2, 2014, 4:56 PM EST

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Grand Rapids gospel singer Marvin Sapp claimed that missing Kalamazoo doctor Teleka Patrick had an obsession with him, prompting him to file a personal protection order against her, court records show.

Patrick, 30, was last seen the night of Dec. 5 when she was dropped off at her car in the Borgess Medical Center parking lot. That car was later found abandoned in Indiana.

In a personal protection order request, Grammy-nominated gospel singer and Grand Rapids pastor Marvin Sapp wrote that Patrick was stalking him.

Sapp said in the document that Patrick began contacting him before she moved to West Michigan from California.

"She has moved from CA to MI," Sapp wrote in part in the PPO request. "Joined my church, contacts my children, and has been to my home."

And, he wrote, she was claiming him as her husband.
 ::snipping3::
The investigators on this case are aware of the PPO, but are not saying how it plays into their ongoing investigation. Family members say the revelations in the PPO are surprising and confusing, but point out that they do not clarify to them why Patrick would have disappeared.

Sapp provided this statement Thursday evening:

"Throughout my career, my family and I have fallen victim to inappropriate attempts to contact me by several unknown individuals. As a father of three and pastor of one of the largest congregations in West Michigan, I cannot to take this kind of obsessive attention lightly. Given these previous acts, I have taken several security measures which have included obtaining a protective order to ensure our safety. Not only am I concerned about my family, I am deeply concerned about the well-being of all families. My prayers of love, safety, reconciliation and support are always and forever with God’s children."

Group: Protection Order Filed Against Doctor Prior to Disappearance
2 hours ago

KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. — The Find Teleka group issued a statement Wednesday detailing new developments in the case of the missing Kalamazoo doctor.

The statement, attributed to her parents Mattahias and Irene Patrick, mentions a personal protection order filed against Teleka prior to her December 2013 disappearance.
 ::snipping3::
Full statement:

There are so many details that have been revealed during the course of this investigation that confuse and hurt us all the more. We would like to thank Ismael Calderon for coming forward and giving us some insight as to what Teleka may have been thinking/ experiencing on the days leading up to her disappearance. We have the utmost respect for him. Regarding the YouTube videos that have been found, we do not have any information as to who or what she is referring to. We have had no indication of a recent significant other, besides a relationship that ended early this year.

Regardless of Teleka’s emotional state, we believe wholeheartedly that she has encountered some harm or danger. It is unlike her to go any significant length of time without any contact with family or friends.

Concerning the protection order that was filed against Teleka earlier this year, we have been advised by the Kalamazoo Sheriff’s Department that the release of this information could possibly impede the investigation into her disappearance. We encourage you to contact the Kalamazoo Sheriffs Department and the FBI with any questions that you have. Throughout the course of this investigation there have been more questions than answers and all we want is for our daughter to be brought home. We need closure. We need answers.

The fact that Teleka’s car was found with a flat tire on I-94 has not changed. The fact that she has not been seen since December 5th has not changed. These are the facts that frighten us. Teleka is missing and we want whoever has her or has harmed her in any way to come forward.

Teleka is our eldest child. One of three bright stars in our lives, and we won’t be whole again until she is found.

Report: Missing Kalamazoo doctor Teleka Patrick was stalking gospel singer
8:25 PM, January 2, 2014

Teleka Patrick, a missing Kalamazoo-based medical resident, was stalking gospel singer Marvin Sapp prior to her disappearance, according to a Grand Rapids news station.

WOOD-TV reported late Thursday that Sapp filed for a personal protection order in Kent County in September. In the court filing, Sapp stated that Patrick, 30, had been referring to him as her husband and had moved from California to western Michigan to join his church, the Lighthouse Full Light Center Church in Grand Rapids.

Her family had previously stated that she decided to attend Western Michigan University for its residential psychiatry program.

Sapp said Patrick had contacted his three children and had been to his home, and that he had “over 400 page(s) of correspondence from her to which I have never responded.” He added that Patrick’s stalking had gone on for at least a year prior to her moving to Michigan.
 ::snipping3::
Patrick’s former husband, Ismael Calderon, also told the Grand Rapids TV station Wednesday that it was possible she had a serious mental condition and could be in danger.

“(Patrick) started to have delusions, paranoia; she started to hear voices,” Calderon said. “Maybe the voices that she heard wasn’t God. Maybe the voices she heard pointed to a serious condition.”

Calderon could not be reached for comment Thursday.

Calderon was married to Patrick from 2006 to 2011, and after their marriage ended, the two did not stay in contact but were not on bad terms, private investigator Carl Clatterbuck said.

Calderon has not been questioned by Indiana State Police or the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office, according to police.
 ::snipping3::
Patrick’s sister, 27-year-old social worker Tenesha Patrick, said she was unaware of any mental diagnoses Teleka may have had but appreciated Calderon coming forward. She has been following the case from her home in Cambridge, Mass.

Tensha Patrick was disappointed to hear that investigators had not interviewed Calderon.

“I know that his name was given to detectives. ... He wasn’t interviewed, and that’s definitely unfortunate,” Tenesha Patrick said. “He felt he needed to bring his perspective to the story. We’re definitely thankful that he shared this perspective and vocalized that.”

Tenesha Patrick added that Calderon had never voiced concern about Teleka Patrick’s mental state throughout the marriage.

Kalamazoo and Indiana State Police said that they are still investigating but have no updates on the case.

Maybe the ex has an airtight alibi as to where he was when Teleka disappeared?  Just thought it was odd that LE hasn't questioned him.

hmmmm, wondering if there was still some issue with Teleka's ex paying her what was owed from the divorce?  Also thought it was interesting that they separated after less than three years of marriage, Teleka filed for divorce right after their third anniversary.

Teleka Patrick’s Family Asks Mary Lands Investigator for Help
6 hours ago

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The family of Teleka Patrick has now hired the investigator who has been handling the search for Mary Land.  It’s the latest twist in the ongoing search for answers in Teleka’s disappearance.

According to Jim Carlin of Justinian Investigative Services in Battle Creek, Teleka’s parents returned to Kalamazoo this week and met with him for several hours.   As a result of the meeting, Carlin says, it is the objective of his agency to work closely with law enforcement.

Carlin is well known for his efforts in bringing closure to family of Mary Lands, a missing mother from Marshall, who has been declared legally dead.  The month of March will mark the 10th anniversary of her disappearance.

“I recently stated that 2014 will be the year that we bring Mary Lands home,” said Carlin in a statement, “and I am just as positive that we can reach a successful resolution in Teleka’s case, but in a much more timely manner.”

The announcement comes after Teleka’s family also learned that a personal protection order had been filed against her daughter.  That doesn’t change the fact that Teleka is still missing and hasn’t been seen since December 5, they said.

Teleka Patrick's family hires new investigator
Updated: Friday, January 3 2014, 07:54 AM EST

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The parents of missing Kalamazoo doctor Teleka Patrick have fired the services of the Kalamazoo private investigator and hired services out of Battle Creek.

Justinian Investigative Services announced late Thursday they have been hired to take over Patrick's case.
 ::snipping3::
This information comes just hours after Newschannel 3 learned Patrick had a personal protection order out against her by a famous West Michigan Gospel Singer and Grand Rapids Native Marvin Sapp.

Sapp is also the pastor at the Lighthouse FLC Church in Grand Rapids.

Patrick's family tells us they have been advised by the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Department that the release of this information could have a negative impact on the investigation into her disappearance.

And Justinian Investigator Jim Carlin tells us too many people have given interviews that included misinformation in the case.

There is a $15,000 reward for information leading to Teleka Patrick's whereabouts.

Teleka Patrick’s Parents Fired Previous Investigator
2 hours ago

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — The private detective just hired by Teleka Patrick’s parents claims the family fired the previous investigator.

In an email announcing the new development, Jim Carlin of Justinian Investigative Services says the missing woman’s parents “returned to Kalamazoo, and then terminated the services of the Kalamazoo private investigator who had been working on her disappearance.”

Carlin went on to claim that “too many individuals have given interviews that included misinformation” and that future questions and interview requests should be directed to his office.

Find Teleka
14 hours ago

Since Dec 5th, our family has been focused exclusively on finding Teleka. She wasn’t with us on Christmas, and as we enter 2014 she still isn’t with us.

We are aware of media reports that are beginning to focus on Teleka’s mental health, and while we encourage the pursuit of honest journalism and truth, we will not take part in sensationalizing Teleka’s disappearance.

The fact remains that Teleka disappeared on Dec 5th. The fact remains that Teleka’s car was found with a flat tire on the side of I-94, a notoriously dangerous highway. And, the fact remains that NO ONE, not a friend, family member, co-worker or loved one has been in contact with Teleka since Dec 5th.

We believe that she has met with foul play and wholeheartedly believe that she is in danger. We are begging anyone with any information about her disappearance to contact the Kalamazoo Sheriff’s dept (269-383-8748) or the FBI.

Thank you to Ismael for this thoughtful interview. If there is a mental illness, we are even more concerned for Teleka's safety. We are 100% certain that Teleka is not missing by choice. There is nothing that would cause Teleka to be out of contact with her family for any period of time unless she is an danger.

Thank you again for your continued support of our efforts to Find Teleka. We are terrified and worried; but will continue to remain prayerful and faithful that Teleka will be found. #findTeleka

Thanks to the Northeast Indiana Search and Rescue, Inc. for your efforts to help us find Teleka. This search and rescue team conducted a search and rescue effort in the area where Teleka's car was found. For more information see link below.

31 December, 2013 - Following a request from the family of Teleka Patrick, NEISAR Ground Team members joined the search for the missing 30 year-old doctor.

With snow on the ground, more snow fast approaching, and temperatures in the low teens, the NEISAR team went to work doing a full sweep and line search of multiple search grids. With the unit’s military background and training standards, NEISAR operators are known for their tenacity, searching areas that normally would be passed over. Underground storm sewers, waist-deep creeks and inaccessible quarries are standard fare for a NEISAR ground search.

NEISAR will continue its search assistance until Teleka is found.

Hello. I am having some martial problems and my hubby is finally willing to see a counselor, but he has insisted that we see a psychiatrist "in case someone needs medication". Ok, whatever. Currently, I am only a student, but I am concerned that this could haunt me. I know that things are supposed to be confidential in the business world that I am used to, but aren't things different in the medical field. Could this somehow mess me up? I know employers check credit reports and criminal backgrounds. Can they ask if you have ever been treated by a Psychiatrist? Is something like that fair game? Please don't beat me up about not knowing enough about HIPAA (pretty please w/ sugar on top, I'm just in A&P1 ). I am asking for the insider real deal. There are loopholes for everything and I guess my question is are there healthcare provider loopholes that would make that information accessible to future employers.

Thanks!

Can I help you? Your husband is probably emotionally abusive. He finally agreed to go to counseling (meaning that he feels that he is beyond reproach) but he wants to go to a psychiatrist in case one of you need meds? The fact that you have suggested that you might end up being medicated says that you are too impressionable to his suggestions. He has probably suggested that you need medication already and is blaming all the problems of your marriage on you. Google "crazy-making". It is a technique that emotionally abusive spouses use in order to actually cause the other spouse to seem or even go crazy. Honey, there is nothing wrong with you. What is probably going on, is your husband is threatened by your academic achievement and professional advancement, and is probably taking it out on you. He probably had complete control over you before you started school, and he's worried that once you finish your degree, he will lose that control. Nothing you do is ever right, huh? I know all this because I am just now coming out of a divorce from such a horrible spouse who tried to do the exact same thing to me (I'm not a nursing student but I'm a medical student). Especially if there is a significant age difference between the two of you (you being younger). Honey I can't tell you what to do but this marriage is not good for you. If you're not ready to get out now, then at least forget about going to the psychiatrist. Chances are, you are so impressionable that you might say things that would make yourself seem like you need medication even though you don't. My advice is to get connected to family and friends who know you, find people that can build you up because it sounds like your husband is tearing you down right when you need his support the most. I know what this is like, my husband would force me out of the house when I needed to study and I was forced to study in places I wasn't familiar with. He would tell me that I wasn't smart and that I had a learning disability. (And he didn't even have his bachelor's when we were married...pathetic)
In conclusion, I think you know in your heart something is wrong. If you don't please get a female friend outside of your marriage stat so you can get support to help you through your marriage. And whatever you do, do not go to the psychiatrist. Your husband is trying to get you convinced and he will also try to convince the psychiatrist that you need meds (even though you don't). Once you have a psych diagnosis there is no going back and it will make you unconsciously look down on yourself (sorry it's true) and it will cause problems in your professional advancement. This will be the ultimate way that your husband will have total control over you, that is what his sick mind is seeking. Any argument you guys have, he will say you're crazy. He can go out and cheat on you, and then lie to you in your face and say you're crazy (it was done to me by my ex). I will pray that you see this message and see through his b.s. God please help my online friend right now to see through what is going on in Jesus' name, Amen. I will pray for you tonight girlfriend, an abusive marriage while you are going through school is the pits. What is your husband's culture? Giiiirrrrlllll, I'm African-American, and you know ladies in our culture are very outspoken. I was married to a Chicano and most of the issues we had in our marriage were due to the machismo thing, he could not stand any loss of control! If he doesn't change you need to get out. It is not your fault, and furthermore it is not your problem and it is not your job to fix someone. Especially if he is toxic to you. Get yourself together, get your kids together if you need to and get out. Abuse is never acceptable, if someone is having you doubt your sanity and controlling you that is abuse. Ok honey I will PRAY.

and don't be afraid to call on God. When my husband was doing what he was doing to me I was so isolated. He had isolated me from family and friends (typical abuser thing) and I had actually begun to believe that I had psych issues due to his constant insinuations. At this time I was not attending church, I was not even really believing in God, and my faith had been unused for months, I wasn't even praying. Girl I called on God. I asked God to give me signs (Because I am a believer in marriage and I did not want to leave). God showed me what my husband was doing. One day it was like the scales fell from my eyes and I saw in an instant what was going on, when I had been fooled for 3 years. And I gave my husband an ultimatum. I said there were some things he needed to do and if he didn't do them I would file. Honey he didn't do them, he started cheating on me, he abandoned me (moved out), I waited 2 months then I filed. Just pray honey. God will help you, God will show you, people will come into your life to help you. We are all God's children, not just the Christians. God will help anyone. Stay strong, stay in your academic program and keep making good grades. DO NOT go to the psychiatrist. How do you think you are going to focus when you are stressed out about a diagnosis? You know you don't have issues, it is your husband trying to put them on you because he is insecure. Stay strong and pray. Trust me, I don't care if you have cursed God out (I have done it several times with expletives and everything). I don't care if you don't believe in God. God will still help, trust me I was an atheist for 2 years and did not pray. And when I had NO ONE, God came through for me and helped me see through the crap, and stay in school, and pass my boards. I am still in school honey. I am graduating with my MD in 2 years, I passed my boards, I never repeated a class. Pray pray pray God will help you. Hold on. You can contact me at sandracassie3000@yahoo.com if you wish. And furthermore God will bring someone else into your life that's 10x better (it happened to me girl). And due to this horrible experience you will now know how to avoid abusers. If you grew up with an abusive dad (whether it be emotional, sexual, physical) you are more prone to being abused. My dad was abusive and it predisposed me to predators. Once you get out of this, you will be sharp, like a sword. You will be able to cut through men's b.s. and see the truth. No abuser will ever have a hold over you. You have the strength inside of you, you are already questioning the hold this man has over you. Rise up and overcome.

Teleka Patrick's ex-husband, private investigator fear foul play or abduction
January 4, 2014

 ::snipping3::
“I do feel that foul play is involved,” said Jim Carlin, a Battle Creek-based private investigator working for Patrick’s family.

Ismael Calderon, her ex-husband, told the Free Press on Friday that he fears the worst.

“I believe that some criminally minded predator took advantage of her on the side of the road,” he said.

He added, “I don’t think she’s hiding anywhere.”

According to court records, Patrick and Calderon married in 2006 and their divorce was finalized in 2012.

Calderon, who lives in California and goes by the name Smiley, said he met Patrick online and the two had a whirlwind relationship, marrying within months. He said he moved out in 2009. Calderon said his ex-wife suffered from delusions and paranoia and told him that before they met she heard voices, which she thought was God’s voice. He said she wouldn’t seek help.

“I begged her multiple times,” Calderon said. “I pleaded with her.”

David Stringer, Patrick’s divorce attorney, said he doesn’t recall Calderon mentioning that Patrick suffered from mental health issues
 ::snipping3::
Carlin said he is unconvinced Patrick suffered any mental health issues, saying he believes any problems would have been recognized by those around her. Tenesha Patrick previously told the Free Press she was unaware of her sister being diagnosed with any mental illness.

Since her disappearance, a personal protection order filed against Patrick by well-known gospel singer Marvin Sapp has come to light.
 ::snipping3::
Sapp wrote that he has nearly 400 pages of correspondence from Patrick. He said the stalking had gone on for at least a year.

The order was signed by Kent County Circuit Judge Daniel Zemaitis. On Friday, the judge said there is no record in the court file that the personal protection order was served. It’s unclear whether it was.

Sapp could not be reached for comment Friday.

Teleka's tweets talk 'underground' world
Updated: Monday, January 6, 2014, 6:39 PM EST
Published: Monday, January 6, 2014, 12:21 PM EST

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Target 8 has uncovered thousands of tweets posted, it appears, by missing Kalamazoo doctor Teleka Patrick in the weeks leading up to her disappearance.

Target 8 investigators found the messages through an archive website that saves deleted tweets. A member of Patrick’s family confirmed to Target 8 that the missing resident used that Twitter account.

The tweets surface just days after Teleka's ex-husband, Ismael Calderon, revealed that he believes Patrick suffered from mental illness.
 ::snipping3::
"I am excited to spend time with you because we can go underground together," the tweets read, and continue, "My nuts are people and I take them underground into my secret world. I am like a squirrel. Squirrels take their nuts underground and then they eat them when mostly no one is looking,"

 An unnamed love interest is often talked about in the tweets. At one point, Patrick tweeted YouTube videos of herself singing to a man.

 The tweeter also writes about pre-ordering a musician's CD and said, "I preordered a CD last week, hope it gets here soon, dunno, I'm a hard copy kinda girl! I know the pics on the insert will be worth it!"
 ::snipping3::
Patrick then posted about receiving the CD and being disappointed.

"I have been ripped off! Do you not understand that there are some people like me that think you are super hot and super handsome and super fine and there was one measly teeny picture that I saw. That is not okay. THAT IS NOT OKAY," Patrick wrote.

The tweets -- posted in the month before Patrick went missing --often speak about the doctor’s faith, but also describe a brief stint with atheism and a moment when God came and spoke to her.

"God spoke to me and said, the person who is delivering the message is discouraged. He needs you to tell him that I am with him in his ministry and that I haven't abandoned him," Patrick said.

Also buried amid the tweets is a reference to Invega, an FDA approved drug used to treat schizophrenia.

"I guess Invega is not as powerful as they advertised," said the poster.

The Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Department declined to comment on any of the tweets, but said they hope to release more information on this case within the next two weeks.

Teleka Patrick's ex-husband says Kalamazoo doctor's refusal to get mental help led to their divorce
on January 04, 2014 at 7:00 AM, updated January 06, 2014 at 8:19 AM

KALAMAZOO, MI – Shortly after they met in 2006, Dr. Teleka Patrick told her future husband of how “A Beautiful Mind,” was her favorite flick.

The movie, which starred Russell Crowe and won an Oscar for best picture, tells the story of renowned American mathematician John Nash and his struggles with mental illness.

“She said, ‘That’s my story,’” Ismael “Smiley” Calderon recalled recently of Patrick, 30, his wife of six years.

Now, Calderon, who lives in California, says he believes his ex-wife’s own mental health issues, which he says led to their 2009 separation and 2012 divorce, may also be behind her Dec. 5 disappearance in Kalamazoo and he fears the worst for Patrick.

I have to agree with your statement BBM. I have seen quotes where the family has tried to minimize (in my opinion) the the importance of Teleka's mental health in relation to what could have happened to her. (As in.. whatever her mental state was is secondary to the fact that they believe that someone harmed her)

I think its important to investigate and even publicize because it effects her state of mind that night and leading up to that night. It would effect the choices she made that either caused her to self-disappear or even put her in the path of someone who could do her harm.

To them, it seems like her mental health is being sensationalized.. but they don't seem to realize how important the information is. (For the investigators, searchers, potential witnesses, etc)

Teleka Patrick's mother assigned to her estate as search for missing Kalamazoo doctor continues
on January 07, 2014 at 1:05 PM, updated January 07, 2014 at 1:34 PM

KALAMAZOO, MI – Dr. Teleka Patrick’s mother has been charged with ensuring that her daughter’s personal and financial affairs remain in order as the search for the missing Kalamazoo doctor continues.

Irene Patrick, 63, was appointed special conservator of Patrick’s estate Dec. 20 by Kalamazoo County Circuit Judge Curtis Bell. In petitioning the conservatorship, Irene Patrick said in court documents that she was seeking a protective order from the court to gain access to her daughter’s “accounts, apartment and all other personal and financial information.”

In granting the petition, Bell found “clear and convincing evidence, (Teleka Patrick) is in need of a protective order because she is unable to manager her property and business affairs” following her Dec. 5 disappearance.

Bell's order, which expires Jan. 30, ordered that as special conservator Irene Patrick “shall investigate the nature of the assets and the extent of the outstanding debts, accumulate income and pay reasonable expenses as needed” and cooperate with police “regarding any and all real property of Teleka Patrick.”

In court documents, Irene Patrick said her daughter has no real property of value, has $50,000 in insurance and listed as “unknown” her monthly income and value of her personal property. Irene Patrick is being represented by Attorney Michael D. Holmes, of Kalamazoo.

Questions...questions...  Who could be the "unnamed love interest"?  MS, on-off boyfriend, other...?  The investigators have told the PI that "some sort of emotional stress" caused her to leave Kalamazoo on Dec. 5.  Is there a connection to the call TP received on Dec. 4?  LE is going to release the findings of their investigation "later this month."  Why is that specific time given by them?

Teleka Patrick tweeted about 'demon,' frustrations with unrequited love just before disappearance
on January 07, 2014 at 5:13 PM, updated January 07, 2014 at 7:35 PM

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Dr. Teleka Patrick wrote about being tortured by a "demonic power" shortly before she deleted her Twitter posts and disappeared on Dec. 5, according to Twitter posts obtained by the Kalamazoo Gazette.

"I can't take much more of this," Patrick appeared to write in a Dec. 4 Twitter post to an unnamed love interest. "There are normal ways to contact people you know ... You reach me through a demonic power. That gives demons power over me and dilutes my spiritual authority.

"Because you are using a demon to contact me, when I turn my heart towards you, it passes through a demonic power. When I say I love you, I am also saying I love you to a demon because that is how you made me fall for you," she posted as @PatientMunchkin.

Jim Carlin, a private investigator hired by Patrick's family, said he has been told by investigators from the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office they believe "some sort of emotional distress" caused Patrick to leave Kalamazoo on the night of Dec. 5.

Carlin, who was hired by the family a week ago, said he is aware of Twitter posts linked to Patrick, but has not reviewed all of them.

The Sheriff's Office on Tuesday refused comment on the case but said they would release the findings of their investigation into Patrick's disappearance later this month.

With all the attention on their case there are sightings of her reported all over the country and many of those are coming in to private investigator Jim Carlin with Justinian Investigative Services.

"We had some good information over the weekend that she might have been seen in Colorado Springs…but that tip did not pan out, there were several more this morning I'm following up on."

Carlin says he is looking at every possible scenario and starting tomorrow plans to check into whether Patrick may have checked herself into a hospital and privacy law would not allow the hospital to reveal that.

"Not only do the HIPPA laws have such stringency, also the mental health laws. That's part of what I'll be doing in Indiana and Illinois tomorrow," says Carlin.

Teleka Patrick case: Marvin Sapp called out stalker believed to be Patrick at church service

He said he had been out of town, he was out of the state and he got back to find out that some woman had been in his house and he knew who it was.”

Patrick’s tweets from the night of Aug. 25 indicate Sapp’s statements at the service troubled her and she wrote that she planned to stop sending him messages on Facebook and “no more pics or videos.”

“Which makes me sad, but I have to protect myself also. Right?” Patrick wrote. “Probably isn’t a good idea to talk to the kids either.”

However, the Twitter posts also suggest what Patrick heard from Sapp on Aug. 25 was not going to dissuade her from contacting him.

“I will still tweet you every day and keep visiting!” she wrote. " ... So it was great to see you outside and hanging with the people! In light of what you discussed today I am sure you can understand why I didn’t try to get close to you.

“But not to worry! We will have our time. If I keep coming and getting involved I’ll get to know more people and eventually get to know you. It will happen in time ... I love you and I’m not going anywhere. So did you like what I was wearing? I bought it last night. I was thinking about you and how I would look so beautiful for you today.”

Teleka Patrick timeline: What we know about Kalamazoo medical resident who disappeared
on December 18, 2013 at 7:16 AM, updated January 08, 2014 at 12:28 PM

KALAMAZOO, MI – Since she went missing Dec. 5, 2013, Dr. Teleka Patrick's disappearance has been a case full of mystery and more questions than answers.

Police in Indiana and Kalamazoo have released some details about what they believe Patrick, 30, a first-year medical resident from Kalamazoo, did in the hours leading up to her disappearance.

So far, this is what is known. All times are Eastern Standard Time:

State Police Sgt. Rick Strong said Patrick’s car was found 30 feet off the pavement with a flat left front tire. No other signs of mechanical or physical damage to the car were noted. The car, a gold 1997 Lexus, was taken to the state police impound lot in Lowell, where it remains.

“There are no developments or leads in the case. She is still listed as a missing person,” said Strong.

Since there is no evidence of a crime having been committed local police agencies are taking a hand’s off approach to the case, strictly treating it as a missing person. It is not illegal for an adult to disappear.

ISP sergeant Ann Wojas said they are assisting the Kalamazoo sheriff in their investigation but that, “we’re not the lead agency in the investigation. We just found the car.”

The lead agency in the disappearance of Teleka is the Kalamazoo Sheriff Department. Kalamazoo Undersheriff Paul Matyas recently issued a statement saying they expect to finish their investigation soon. Calls to Matyas were not returned.

Local police agencies are not actively involved in the search, either.

Shayna Dujmovich, a part-time officer for the Burns Harbor police said they had helped search the area at the time of the reported disappearance and are keeping an eye out for her, but that is the extent of their activities.

A Porter police department dispatcher said they are not actively involved in the investigation.

Sergeant Larry LaFlower, public information officer of the Porter County Sheriffs department, said at the time of the initial disappearance a retired sheriff department sergeant used his bloodhound to help search for the missing woman.

Patrick’s mother, Irene Patrick, contacted in Florida, would not discuss the disappearance. She referred calls to a private investigator in Michigan who had been hired to look for her.

That investigator, Jim Carlin, did not return calls seeking comment.

It almost sounds as though LE believe she disappeared on her own and is out there somewhere, or they know where she is.  Odd behavior for a mother searching for a missing daughter...Mom knows much much more than she wants to let on, imo.

Teleka Patrick Case: Private Investigator Looking into ‘Interesting’ Tip, More
4 hours ago

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Jim Carlin, a private investigator and former police officer, said he received a new, ‘interesting’ tip regarding Teleka Patrick’s disappearance. That tip came in on Thursday.

Also, FOX 17 found an online dating profile of Teleka Patrick. It was apparently made while Patrick was living in California.

Carlin, who’s based out of Battle Creek, sat down with FOX 17.

Teleka Patrick’s family hired him 8 days ago to help find her. She’s been missing since December 5th. Carlin said he received several tips this week. Most of them were bogus, he said. However, one of them is said to be ‘interesting’ and is being followed up on.

FOX 17 asked Carlin to expound on the new tip. He said, “Not at this time. I just want to let the sheriff’s department handle that.”

“I believe she is alive,” Carlin stated at one point during the interview.

“If she realized that she needed some help and maybe checked herself into a hospital, that would be something that could be done under HIPAA and the Mental Illness Statute of Protection and Privacy. She could check in under her own name or ‘Janet Jones’, and the hospital would be precluded from releasing any information,” he added.

Indiana State Police said her car was found abandoned along I-94 in Portage, Indiana. That’s more than 100 miles away from Kalamazoo.

“I don’t think she’s long that road,” Carlin said.

As a mysterious side of Teleka Patrick comes to light, the question remains: Where is she?

 ::snipping3::

But with more information from police came more questions. Among them:

    Why did Patrick try to stay at the Radisson when her home at Gull Run Apartments was just three miles from Borgess?
    Why had she tried to use $100 in cash she borrowed from a friend to book a room instead of a credit card?
    Why had she left her wallet, ID and credit cards in her car, and left her cellphone and purse at Borgess?
    Why was she on I-94 in Indiana that Thursday night, knowing she was expected at work at Borgess the next morning?
    Why had her car gone off the highway?

 ::snipping3::

My Comment - the comments on this story are interesting - and a bit disturbing . . .

KALAMAZOO, MI -- On the same day a judge signed an order for Dr. Teleka Patrick to stay away from a Grand Rapids minister, the Kalamazoo medical resident tweeted worries she was experiencing "one big psychotic break."

In a long string of Twitter posts Sept. 17, less than three months before her Dec. 5 disappearance, Patrick wrote about her unrequited love for an unnamed man and her struggle to determine whether they had a genuine telepathic, psychic connection or the romance was a figment of her imagination.

Learning more about pastor who accused missing doctor of stalking
Updated: Wednesday, January 15 2014, 07:37 PM EST

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - As police search for clues in the disappearance of a West Michigan doctor, we're learning more about the pastor who accused her of stalking him.

Teleka Patrick has been missing since she left work at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo December 5th.

A few weeks after her disappearance we learned pastor and gospel singer Marvin Sapp was granted a personal protection order against her back in September.

We've learned Sapp has been pitching a TV reality show since 2012 based on his life which includes some similarities to the Patrick case.

Sapp's reality show called "Single Dad - Us Four And No More," was promoted as being about Sapp, a single father, raising three kids while maintaining a business and a career as a gospel music star.

Part of the storyline was described as dealing with "God told me you are my husband!" women.

That is similar wording to what was on the personal protection order against Teleka Patrick. Sapp wrote, "I'm a national recording star on the RCA label who she has claimed as her husband."

In another interview from 2012 now on YouTube he describes women who are too aggressive in pursuing him.

"You sit back and say my God, what changed? And what changed is, it's sad, but women have let their standards down," said Sapp.

So far Sapp, the pastor at Lighthouse FLC Church, has refused to answer any questions about the case. And he has even refused to talk with the private investigator hired by the Patrick family Jim Carlin.

"You would think if a pastor was in that position, he would at least try to reach out to his congregation in hope of bringing her home. But he doesn't return my call and he doesn't come to the door," says Carlin.

Huh.  Surely if this was another balloon boy situation it wouldn't have lasted this long.  Then again, nothing is surprising these days.

Teleka Patrick's siblings knew she moved to Kalamazoo to be closer to Marvin Sapp, tweets show

KALAMAZOO, MI — Dr. Teleka Patrick'€™s sister and brother knew last spring of her plans to move from California to Kalamazoo to be closer to Marvin Sapp, a well-known Grand Rapids pastor and gospel singer, according to Patrick's Twitter posts.

Patrick's siblings, Eddie and Tenesha Patrick, promised at the time to say nothing and gave her a late 2013 deadline for revealing to their parents why she chose Kalamazoo as the place to begin her medical residency, Patrick said in the May 7 tweets under the username, @Caligurl2013.

"€œMy sister and brother know about you,"€ť Patrick wrote.
 ::snipping3::
"They think I am insane for relocating without any direct contact," Patrick wrote in the May 7 tweet about telling her siblings about Sapp. "They support me though. I told them that God spoke to me about you and He is sending me to you.

"They have agreed to allow me to explain to my parents why I relocated when I feel the time is right. So they are keeping mum. Our compromise is that I tell my parents before 2013 is up."

Patrick's siblings could not be reached for comment for this report.

New information in Teleka Patrick case
Kalamazoo doctor has been missing since December 5

Patrick was last seen on Dec. 5 after entering the Radisson Plaza Hotel in downtown Kalamazoo.

While she didn’t outright ask to rent a room, she acted as though she wanted to, Fuller said.

However, she didn’t have enough money for the room, and a hotel employee brought her back to the Borgess Hospital parking lot in a service van, where her car was presumably parked.

Fuller said that when she got out of the van, she told the driver she was sorry and couldn’t go back to him – a comment that the driver found odd, since the two were not in a relationship.
 ::snipping3::

Fuller said his department believes Patrick left Kalamazoo on her own free will, and was headed to Chicago to see a family member. It was what happened to her in the meantime that was still unclear.

Patrick had exhibited delusional behavior in the past, Fuller said, and would sometimes leave urgently and go missing for a short period of time, checking into a hotel or motel.

That behavior was consistent with her attempt to get a hotel room at the Radisson and the erratic driving on I-94, according to Fuller.

Fuller also addressed Patrick’s connection to gospel singer Marvin Sapp, who resides in the Grand Rapids area with his children.

He said his department was aware of the personal protection order that Sapp had filed against Patrick, but did not get into details of the PPO.

Fuller did say that Sapp was in no way connected to Patrick’s disappearance and had been “thoroughly cooperative” and had no choice but to seek the PPO in September 2013.

“He’s nothing more than an innocent victim of a stalking,” Fuller said.

He then continued to say that Sapp had either never met Patrick or did not realize that he had ever met her.

Another missing piece of the puzzle was a comment that Patrick made when applying to Western Michigan University’s School of Medicine.

Fuller said that when Patrick interviewed for her position, she told her interviewer that she wanted to move to Kalamazoo to be closer to her fiancé.

Investigators said they did not know to whom Patrick was referring in that instance.

No Good Leads In Teleka Patrick Case
5 hours ago

 ::snipping3::
Several unanswered questions were cleared up by the news conference. A mystery phone call Patrick received while she was with others turned out to be a call from a relative and not connected to her disappearance. And the much-covered connection to Rev. Marvin Sapp, in which he was granted a personal protection order against Patrick, is limited to the stalking and Sapp is unconnected to her disappearance.

Here is a timeline of the disappearance as described by Sheriff Fuller:
•Patrick appears at the Radisson Hotel but does not specifically ask for a room. She had no identification and did not have enough money for a room.
•Patrick is taken by hotel van to Borgess Medical Center, where the driver watched her drive away in her own car.
•Two hours later, Indiana State Police respond to one report of an erratic driver and another report of a car off the road on I-94 in Portage, Ind.
•ISP find the car unoccupied with a flat tire. It’s not known if the car went off the pavement due to the flat or if the flat resulted from going off the road. The keys were not in the vehicle, but it contained her wallet with a small amount of money in it. A police dog follows tracks back to the roadway but loses the scent.
•Patrick is reported missing by co-workers.
•Patrick’s locker is found to contain her cell phone, work ID.
•Nothing in her apartment gives an indication of what happened.

Patrick’s disappearance seems to be complete. Her social media accounts have been quiet since she disappeared. She was supposed to be headed to a relative’s house in Chicago, but she never got there. Her credit card and bank accounts have been inactive since she disappeared.

One reason Patrick is a bit of a mystery, said Sheriff Fuller, is that she had not been in Kalamazoo long enough to establish friendships. She had stayed at the Radission Hotel one time in the past, but that was in connection with an orientation at Western Michigan University, a common reason for a hotel stay.

Police continue to come up empty. Surveillance along the highway has yielded no images of her along the highway or in the area. There is no indication that Patrick showed up at any hospital in the Portage, Ind., area. When asked if hospitals would withhold information, the sheriff said hospitals usually cooperate in missing person cases despite privacy concerns.

Private investigator speaks out on Teleka Patrick case
Updated: Thursday, January 23 2014, 01:22 AM EST

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Along with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office, Justinian Investigative Services has been helping with this investigation, weeding out false tips.

Teleka's siblings, Matthias and Tenesha Patrick released this statement on the Find Teleka Facebook page saying, "Our family is grateful for the efforts of the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's department in the search for Teleka. We really miss our sister, and wish there were more leads...she has been gone for far too long. We don't know what or how to feel. Yet, we remain hopeful. Our faith is strong. She will come home again."

Private Investigator Jim Carlin tells us Teleka Patrick's parents learned from the Kalamazoo County Sheriff Wednesday their daughter had a tendency to disappear and was in emotional distress.

"Regardless of the mental issues that may be there, they're glad the focus is back on bringing her home," said Carlin.

We asked Carlin if he believes Teleka is hiding or in danger.

"Even if someone was taking care of her, if you wanted to use that phrase, with not having your own resources, a cell phone to call home to mom and dad, you have to say she is in danger," said Carlin.

Sheriff Fuller was insistent that Pastor Marvin Sapp is not a suspect, but Carlin has his own ideas.

"If you are excluded as a suspect, he could have been in England at the time, it doesn't mean that someone didn't do something for him," said Carlin.

"Teleka made comments in the past that someone was following her. I think if you listen to what the sheriff said, he was sincere, but the woman was in that church. I have a document that expels her, so they clearly know her, there clearly was an interaction with Pastor Sapp and that church," added Carlin.

"An interesting thing that the family has talked about, is there was an orientation manual that she had to go through to be a member of this particular church. The family was not able to find that," said Carlin.

In Teleka Patrick case, mental-health complexities put in spotlight
on January 24, 2014 at 11:50 AM, updated January 24, 2014 at 4:38 PM

 ::snipping3::
Among issues raised by the Patrick case:

•Is it really possible for someone to be a high-performing professional while battling delusions and other symptoms of a serious mental illness?
•Why wouldn't someone in Patrick's position -- a psychiatric resident who was well aware of the symptoms of mental illness -- seek treatment?
•What's the next step when others sense a problem -- which was apparently the case with Patrick's brother -- and the person experiencing symptoms denies there's an issue?
•What can be done about the stigma surrounding mental illness, a stigma that may have prolonged Patrick's emotional anguish and delayed her family's public acknowledgement of the circumstances around her disappearance?
 ::snipping3::

Where she went is anybody's guess, investigators say.

The experts

Dr. Melvin Mcinnis, a University of Michigan psychiatry professor with a specialty in bipolar disorders and schizophrenia, said hearing voices and having a romantic obsession about a stranger are symptoms that are a "cause for major concern."

In fact, such romantic obsessions are typically diagnosed as erotomania, a rare disorder in which an individual is convinced someone is in love with him or her without any basis in fact -- and even strong evidence to the contrary.

"Erotomania is under the class of delusions, and delusions are firmly fixed beliefs that are immutable to logic or reason," Mcinnis said.

Typical behaviors associated with erotomania include a conviction the two share secret communications and a belief that public rejections by the love interest are a ruse. Obsessive writings to and about the love interest also are typical, he said.

Mcinnis added that erotomania usually accompanies another diagnosis, such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia.

While these are serious disorders that require "focused treatment," he said, "they are eminently treatable."

Still, he said, considering the stigma surrounding mental illness, it's not terribly surprising that someone such as Patrick would be reluctant to seek help.

Teleka Patrick case: 8 things we learned from the sheriff's press conference
on January 22, 2014 at 7:05 PM, updated January 22, 2014 at 8:21 PM

 ::snipping3::
1. Patrick was acting "strangely" and "confused" the night she disappeared. Patrick seemed fine during her work shift at Borgess, Fuller said. But at the end of her shift, she told a co-worker that she didn't have her wallet; he loaned her $100 and -- at her request -- gave her a ride downtown to the Radisson Hotel & Suites. During that ride, she seemed "erratic." At the Radisson, Patrick continued to act confused and the front-desk clerk asked her "Are you OK?" Patrick indicated she wanted to book a room, but didn't have enough cash and had no ID or credit card. A Radisson shuttle driver took her back to Borgess to retrieve her wallet and "get some things," but once she arrived at Borgess, she apologized and said she wouldn't be returning to the hotel. She then got in her car and left, which is the last time anybody has reported seeing her.

2. Patrick's westbound trek that night seems more impulsive than planned. Investigators think she was headed to a relative's home in Crete, Ill., where she spent Thanksgiving; Patrick had mentioned to co-workers she would be visiting the relative during the upcoming weekend. However, it doesn't make sense that Patrick would head to Illinois late Thursday: She was scheduled to work Friday morning at Borgess; she hadn't alerted the relative that she was coming that night, and she did not have an overnight bag or change of clothes.

3. There are a few troubling hints that Patrick may have meant to disappear. Fuller noted that Patrick left her cellphone and other items owned by the hospital in her work locker. It appeared she deleted all her social media accounts just before she left, and when she left her car, she left behind her wallet with ID and credit cards. Fuller said that Patrick has disappeared in the past for a day or two, when she seemed in mental distress and checked into a hotel. "But nothing this long or of this magnitude," Fuller said.

4.  There was a very, very narrow window of time in which Patrick disappeared. At 10 p.m. EST, almost exactly two hours after Patrick left the Borgess lot that night, the Indiana State Police received a call from a driver reporting a car that was driving erratically on westbound I-94 near Porter, Ind. The car was driving very fast, then very slow and weaving across the lanes. A few minutes later, police received a second call from a different driver reporting a car was off the road. By 10:14 p.m. EST, Indiana State Police were at the scene but didn't find Patrick, the presumed driver.

5. The most likely theory is that Patrick got a ride from someone. A week after her disappearance, a bloodhound taken to the scene repeatedly tracked Patrick's scent from the location of the car to the highway.  And even if Patrick was experiencing paranoid delusions, Fuller points out it would have been hard for her to run away from the highway: She would have had to climb a hill, climb over a fence and climb another hill to reach the surrounding area.

6. However, the total lack of evidence Patrick is still alive is "very concerning." Since her disappearance, there have been no activity on Patrick's credit card or bank accounts, no health-insurance transaction, no airline tickets bought in her name, no indications she has left the country, no known activity on social media or any other contact with friends and family. As far as anybody knows, she has no ID, little money, no cellphone and no extra clothes with her. Police have canvassed hospitals, homeless shelters and other facilities in the region, with no credible tips that Patrick has been sighted.

7. Marvin Sapp is not a suspect in the case. Investigators say there is no indication that Sapp had any involvement in Patrick's disappearance. "He is nothing more than an innocent victim of stalking," Fuller said. Investigators also said there is no evidence Sapp ever initiated communication with Patrick and, once the PPO was issued, no reports that Patrick violated it. They also say that Patrick knew about the PPO -- it was sent to her by certified mail and she signed for it.

8. There is no evidence of foul play, although they don't rule it out.  Investigators feel certain Patrick left Kalamazoo "voluntarily" and there was no foul play connected to departure from Kalamazoo that night. However, they do not rule out the possibility of foul pay by someone after Patrick left her car that night -- "after that, we can't tell," said Detective Sgt. William Sparrow of the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office, who is the lead investigator.

Among the questions still unanswered: Why did Patrick want to book a room at the Radisson instead of going home to her apartment, which is only a few miles from Borgess? Why did she leave Kalamazoo that night? What made her drive off the road?

And most important: What happened that night after she got out of her car?

"Bottom line, we don't know where Teleka Patrick is," Fuller said.

Letter to Teleka Patrick From Marvin Sapp
3 days ago

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — FOX 17 obtained a copy of a letter apparently written by Pastor Marvin Sapp to Teleka Patrick. It’s regarding her alleged attempts to reach him and his children.

The letter informs her that her name has been removed from the membership roll at his church, Lighthouse Full Life Center Church in Grand Rapids. It is dated September 17, 2013, and alleges that she made inappropriate contact with his children. Other allegations are made and forewarning of a personal protection order filed against her is mentioned.

The personal protection order from Sapp against Patrick was also served in September.

Search Porter lake for evidence of missing woman
Posted 1/29/2014

An unsuccessful search of Lake Charles in Porter was conducted on Thursday, Jan. 23, for evidence of a missing Michigan woman whose abandoned car was found on Dec. 5 on I-94 near the Porter/Burns Harbor exits.

The search was conducted by the Indiana State Police’s Criminal Investigation Division, the Kalamazoo, Mich., office of the FBI, and the Kalamazoo County and Washtenaw County, Mich., sheriff’s departments.

Teleka Patrick was reported missing in Kalamazoo County on Thursday, Dec. 5, the same night her gold 1997 Lexus ES300 was found abandoned by an ISP trooper in the westbound lanes of I-94, just east of the Porter/Burns Harbor exits, adjacent to Lake Charles.

On Jan. 23 the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department deployed a specialized team capable of conducting water searches under ice, using a “very advanced and sophisticated sonar equipment system,” the ISP said.

My heart is breaking for this poor woman who obviously has some serious mental health issues.  The article you posted above clearly talks about the "public shame" folks encounter where from depression or any other mental illness.  I hope she is found safe -- but the odds are certainly not in her favor.

ST. CLAIR TWP. — Police are looking for a woman in connection with the grisly discovery Thursday afternoon of multiple bags containing human body parts scattered along snowy roads in St. Clair Township.

St. Clair County Sheriff Timothy Donnellon said police are searching for a middle-aged white woman driving a late 90s gray or tan sport utility vehicle, similar in appearance to a GMC Jimmy or Chevy Blazer.

St. Clair County Sheriff Detective Stacy Tunich said several bags containing human body parts were discovered on Allington Road between Fred Moore Highway and Trumble Road. A bag also was found on Fred Moore Highway, Tunich said.

Donnellon said the sheriff department had received a tip a middle-aged woman was tossing garbage in the area.

He said some of the body parts were in bags and some were not. He did not disclose the number of bags.

Technicians from the Michigan State Police Crime Lab were a,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

The human remains have not been linked to a specific person.

"That very well could be tied into these garbage bags," Donnellon said.

Thanks for all the updates grace-land.
My heart is breaking for this poor woman who obviously has some serious mental health issues.  The article you posted above clearly talks about the "public shame" folks encounter where from depression or any other mental illness.  I hope she is found safe -- but the odds are certainly not in her favor.
::MonkeyTears::

You're welcome, Sister.  The outcome doesn't look good--but still hoping.

Report of possible Teleka Patrick sighting at Battle Creek Walmart being investigated
on February 05, 2014 at 11:45 AM, updated February 05, 2014 at 4:30 PM

KALAMAZOO, MI – The lead detective in the Teleka Patrick case says he is investigating a report of a possible sighting of the missing Kalamazoo doctor Saturday at a Walmart in Battle Creek.

Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. William Sparrow said he received the tip Tuesday from Patrick’s family and Jim Carlin, a private investigator from Battle Creek who has been hired by the family to help find Patrick, 30.

Carlin said the tip, which was received by Patrick’s family on Sunday, came from an employee at the Walmart, which is located off M-66 south of I-94 in Battle Creek.
 ::snipping3::
Sparrow said police, at this point, are doing “anything and everything” they can to verify the identity of the woman spotted at the Walmart. He declined to elaborate what steps police are taking but did say that one piece of information police may look at on a tip of a sighting in a missing persons case is video surveillance.

“It’s way too early to say yay or nay,” Sparrow said. “... We’ve got to check into it.”

Carlin said he has spoken with Sparrow since passing the tip to the detective and that Sparrow told him it appears the woman used a credit card to purchase items at the store, leading Carlin to believe that “probably, this isn’t (Teleka.”

Teleka Patrick search: Missing Kalamazoo doctor's trail goes cold in small Indiana crossroads town

PORTER, IND. — On any given day, this is a place easily overlooked on a drive on I-94, an unremarkable crossroads in northwestern Indiana bounded by gas stations and truck stops, car dealerships and fireworks stores.

But for those who knew Teleka Patrick, or have taken an interest in the mystery surrounding her disappearance, Exit 22 in Porter, Ind., holds significance. It is where the trail ends in the search for the promising Kalamazoo doctor — missing now for 10 weeks.
 ::snipping3::
“They haven’t heard about it,” he said. “There’s really no information ... There’s not much to be said, since she hasn’t been found.”

The Indiana State Police sergeant who is the lead investigator into Patrick’s disappearance there said the trail has gone completely cold.

“At this point, we’re stagnant. We have no leads,” Detective Sgt. Rick Strong said.

“I don’t have any solid gut feelings on this at all,” he said of Patrick's fate since her car was found along I-94.

In search for Teleka Patrick, sergeant says Indiana State Police have 'done all we can do'
on February 15, 2014 at 7:05 AM, updated February 15, 2014 at 1:00 PM

 ::snipping3::
The keys were missing, but the car was unlocked, Strong said, and police found Patrick's wallet, credit cards and $7 in cash inside.

The left front tire was flat. Strong said investigators believe it had gone flat before the car went into the ditch. The car was not traveling at a high speed when it ran off the interstate, and police found no tire marks to indicate it left the road abruptly, he said.

The Lexus is being kept in a secure, fenced area at the Lowell post, where as of a week ago it sat encased in deep snow.

Police searched the area around the abandoned car and found no signs of Patrick or footprints the night of Dec. 5, according to Strong. While Porter is covered in deep snow now, it was cold that night but there was no snow was on the ground, he said.

A week later, state police used a bloodhound to track from the spot where Patrick’s car was abandoned. Twice the dog walked from the ditch up to I-94. Strong said that while that proves nothing, it strongly suggests she walked from her car to the side of the highway and got a ride from a passing motorist.

Still, Strong and three other state police detectives in early December conducted a grid search of an open area between the westbound lanes of I-94 and U.S. 20, the main highway off the Porter/Burns Harbor exit. Police also surveyed more than a mile of a large culvert on foot in mid-December, and the FBI has conducted an aerial search for Patrick. None of those searches turned up anything of value, he said.

Detectives on Jan. 23 used sonar to search Lake Charles. The small lake, which more resembles a pond encircled by trees, is just north of where Patrick’s car went off I-94. Last week, the only thing visible on the snow-covered lake were deer paw prints.  Detective Sgt. William Sparrow, of the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office, said investigators plan to search the lake again this spring with a dive team.

Find Teleka

This is our nightmare.

Knowing that Teleka would not willingly disappear. Knowing that, regardless of whatever she was feeling, she would be in contact with either her family or closest friends. Knowing that she would not just walk away from her LIFE. With the passing of everyday, the odds dwindle. With the passing of everyday, it becomes more and more difficult to process that Teleka is missing-without a trace.

In the face of all that has been come to light during the course of the investigation, our family has been buoyed by the constant prayers and well wishes from all of you. We ask that as you continue to celebrate birthdays, holidays, and snow-days, that you remember Teleka.

Remember her face. Remember her smile. Remember that she is a woman with a story. Remember that she deserves to be found. She is a beautiful person inside and out. And she has been missing for SEVENTY FOUR days. This is our new normal-and we are devastated. We are tired. We are afraid. But we WILL NOT give up hope that she will be found.

Please, PLEASE continue to share and post about Teleka Patrick. Please continue to keep your eyes and ears open. Please continue to pray for her safety and for the strength of our family. This is an impossible situation, but we know that with God ALL things are possible. #findteleka

Close friend of Teleka Patrick, among last to talk to her, says she feared for her life

KALAMAZOO, MI – James A. Davis says he was one of the last people to talk to Teleka Patrick before she disappeared on Dec. 5.

In fact, the last text messages on Patrick’s cell phone were an exchange in which the two close friends discussed “trying to get together and meet,” according to court documents.

But it’s the last phone call Davis received from Patrick — he believes it was Dec. 4 — that sticks with Davis, as he reflects on the search for the Kalamazoo doctor.

“She called me at night time and she said she was very scared,” he said in a telephone interview from St. Louis, Mo., where he lives. “She said that she was scared that she was going to be killed ... I’ve never heard her like this in my life.

“She just said, ‘James, listen to me, please.’ She made sense, but you could tell it was something different in her voice ... She kept saying, ‘James, you’re not taking me seriously.’”

 ::snipping3::

Davis is named in two of the 11 search warrants sheriff’s investigators were granted in the Patrick case between Dec. 10 and Dec. 23. The warrants show that police sought to examine his cell phone and cell phone records, as well as Patrick's apartment, computer hard drive, her cell phone, her Google and Western Michigan University emails, and her Twitter and Facebook accounts.

In an affidavit filed with a Dec. 23 search warrant for Davis' phone, which erroneously identifies Davis as “James Dunn,” Detective Jeff Baker said he had “confirmed that a boyfriend of Teleka Patrick is (Davis).”

In an affidavit for a Dec. 19 search warrant, Baker wrote that police had searched Patrick’s cell phone and “information was located that Patrick had several text messages with James Arthur Davis. The last messages on Patrick’s phone were between her and Davis. The text message discussion was about them trying to get together and meet.”

One of the questions asked up thread was why would Patrick want to go to a hotel instead of her apartment?

The answer is easy (for me).  The apartment has memories, thoughts, sounds. etc. which remind a person of their situation, problem, etc.
A hotel is very sterile -- no memories, just be the thinker of your present thoughts, sounds are controllable, etc.

I have done that many times to seek a refuge from reality and all its problems, situations, etc.  It has allowed me to help put things in perspective.

ALAMAZOO, Mich. (March 5, 2014) — Wednesday marks three months since Teleka Patrick was last seen, and her family is reaching out through social media. They are asking people to join them in wearing Teleka’s favorite color, red, and join them in prayer.

“Three months of sadness, loss, tears, questions, prayers, hope, despair, ambivalence, fear, disappointment, pain, faith, and longing,” said Teleka’s sister, Tenesha, on the Find Teleka Facebook page.  “Teleka is still missing and we still have no answers.”

this is a really sad case.  I still don't know what to think about her disappearance.  I just can't wrap my mind around someone walking away from their vehicle, late at night, on an interstate and just disappearing.  It is just too dangerous to leave your car and walk away.

I hope they find answers soon.  The longer this goes on the less hope they have of a good outcome.

It's been just over three months and still no sign of Taleka. Carlin says one positive is that the Teleka Patrick case is getting national attention and he's still hopeful she'll be found alive.

Marvin Sapp, the Gospel singer and preacher, is not a suspect in the disappearance of Teleka Patrick, which took place several months ago, but a viral rumor is saying otherwise as of Tuesday.

One viral e-mail message that has been going around says, “I heard that Marvin Sapp is currently the primary suspect in the case of the missing doctor, Teleka Patrick of Kalamazoo, Michigan.”

However, it was determined several months ago that Sapp wasn’t a suspect, according to Michigan news website MLive.com.

“He is nothing more than an innocent victim of stalking,” Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller told MLive, referring to Sapp. ”He is not a suspect,” Fuller added.

Sapp, at the time, “fully cooperated” with the police investigation involving Patrick’s odd disappearance.

But on Monday and Tuesday, users on Facebook and Twitter were saying that Sapp was a “suspect” in her disappearance, citing no sources. The messages appear to just to a viral rumor.

PORTER, Ind. (WOOD) — The body of missing Kalamazoo doctor Teleka Patrick has been located in a lake in northern Indiana, according to Patrick’s mother.

Police have not yet officially identified the body pulled Sunday morning from Lake Charles near the town of Porter, according to a release from the Indiana Sate Police. However, Patrick’s mother told 24 Hour News 8 in a Sunday afternoon phone interview that it was Patrick’s body. She said that her family is in mourning and declined further comment.

A man fishing on Lake Charles noticed something suspicious floating in the water around 7:10 a.m. Sunday, the release from Indiana State Police says. He called police.

The Indiana State police SCUBA team and Porter Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and pulled the body of a female dressed in dark clothing from the water, the release said.

An autopsy is scheduled for later this week, police said.

 ::snipping3::

Authorities searched Lake Charles in January when it was still frozen over, but that search did not reveal anything related to Patrick’s case. Last week, authorities also conducted a land search near where Patrick’s car was found. That search was also fruitless.

Family: ‘Body may be Teleka Patrick’

By 24 Hour News 8 web staff Updated: Sunday, April 6, 2014, 3:54 pm Published: Sunday, April 6, 2014, 3:17 pm

PORTER, Ind. (WOOD) — The body of missing Kalamazoo doctor Teleka Patrick may have been located in a lake in northern Indiana.

Police have not yet officially identified the body pulled Sunday morning from Lake Charles near the town of Porter, according to a release from the Indiana Sate Police. However, Patrick’s mother told 24 Hour News 8 over the phone on Sunday afternoon that it was Patrick’s body. She said that her family is in mourning and declined further comment.

After Patrick’s mother’s call, another family member called back and said they were waiting for confirmation of the body’s identity, which they had not yet received. They then sent this statement:

“Our family was informed that a body was found that may be our daughter Teleka Patrick. We are waiting for official confirmation from the Kalamazoo Sheriff’s Department and have no comment at this time. Thank you for your continued prayers-we ask that you respect our privacy at this difficult time.”

Chuck Harris, the Porter County coroner, told 24 Hour News 8 in a Sunday afternoon phone interview that no positive identity has been made on the body. An autopsy is scheduled for the beginning of the week, he said, possibly on Tuesday.

He said due to the decomposition of the body, fingerprints or dental records will have to be used to identify the body. He said there were not any obvious signs of trauma to the body.

Harris said he was called to the scene at 9:21 a.m. He also said the woman was wearing dark pants and a dark top.

Authorities searched Lake Charles in January when it was still frozen over, but that search did not reveal anything related to Patrick’s case. Last week, authorities also conducted a land search near where Patrick’s car was found. That search was also fruitless.

Besides those searches, Harris said, there is nothing at this time to link the body to Patrick.

I wonder what the distance is from Lake Charles, where Teleka's body was found to where her car was found?  It's said the car was found with a flat tire in a ditch westbound on I-94, near Portage, Indiana.  Grace-land had posted this article with map.

 ::snipping3::

Thank you for the updates, Texasmom and MuffyBee.  Was waiting for the search of the lake--but, sadly, now will wait for the official confirmation.
MuffyBee, the car was off of I-94 very close to the lake.

The Indiana State police SCUBA team and Porter Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and pulled the body of a female dressed in dark clothing from the water, the release said.

Harris said he was called to the scene at 9:21 a.m. He also said the woman was wearing dark pants and a dark top.

Patrick, 30, was last seen the evening of Dec. 5, 2013 in the parking lot of Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. Her car was found later that night off I-94 near Porter, very near Lake Charles.

Good question.  Perhaps the autopsy will provide some answers.

You see, it's almost too easy to assume Teleka wandered over to the lake and fell in.  This may be the case, and that's very, very sad. Maybe years ago, that would be a natural assumption.  However, with some of the technical abilities, perhaps there's some evidence it was a crime instead of a terrible accident.  As you said grace-land, perhaps the autopsy will provide some answers.  What has my attention is the blood hounds lost the scent, which could indicate she was possibly picked up by a car.  That's a game changer.  Although it was said there were no obvious or immediate signs of trauma, after spending so much time in the water, who knows?  I hope the cold water preserved evidence enough to get the answers.  JMHO

I hope they find the truth too, texasmom.    Teleka Patrick, her family, friends and co-workers deserve no less than a thorough investigation. It would seem so easy to make assumptions and consider the case solved and close it especially since it seemed early on there some felt Teleka left on her own volition.   We've seen cases before where there was an assumption of an accident or suicide only to find later it was a homicide.  Jmho.

Search continues for Teleka Patrick, four months after going missing
Updated: Saturday, April 5 2014, 07:20 PM EDT

 ::snipping3::

This week, an extensive search by 30 sheriff's deputies turned up zero clues into her disappearance. They combed the area where her car was found, abandoned, along I-94 in Porter, Ind.

The private investigator looking for Patrick, Jim Carlin, tells Newschannel 3 that he did a search of his own in the same area. He took pictures over the last two weeks, walking 21 hours, documenting drainage ditches, muddy roads and wooded areas.

Carlin says he too found nothing. That leads him to believe Patrick was picked up by another motorist. "She did not go over the fence," he says. "If a person was running, imagined or in reality, hiding from someone, if they would go over the fence, they might hunker down somewhere. You know the thought could be, she froze to death somewhere in that general area. But the coverage I've seen, and the police, they've dismissed that idea. But I actually think it is good news to know that she is not there."

Carlin says police are now looking at alternatives, including the possibility Patrick was the passenger in the car, and not the driver.

Body found in Porter, Indiana could be Teleka Patrick
April 7, 2014

 ::snipping3::
Here's a look at the series of events leading up to Patrick's disappearance:

She was last seen on December 5th when she tried to book a room at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Kalamazoo.

Investigators say when she didn't have enough money, a courtesy van took her to her car in the Borgess Medical Center parking lot.

Later that night, a state police trooper found her car in a ditch on westbound I-94 in Indiana.

The Porter County Coroner tells us the body that was found Sunday had been out in the elements for a long time.

We do know it was an African-American woman and that body was found just yards away from where Teleka Patrick's car was abandoned.

Investigators say it's likely not a coincidence.

The coroner says because of the condition the body is in, there's no way for the family to come in and identify the victim.

They'll have to rely on an autopsy to determine if it is in fact Teleka Patrick, which could take another day or two.

"If this was the original spot where she passed away it was very possible she was underneath the ice," said one investigator.
 ::snipping3::
The coroner expects to perform an autopsy Tuesday, which should help identify the body.

Teleka Patrick search hindered by brutal winter

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Dr. Teleka Patrick went missing on the eve of the region's harshest winter in recent memory, a fact that has hampered the search for her for months.

"The harsh winter has been a hindrance in locating her," Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Pali Matyas said. "It's hurt."

 ::snipping3::
The temperatures was already dropping the evening of Dec. 5 when Patrick disappeared in northern Indiana.

Drivers on westbound I-94 reported seeing Patrick driving erratically on westbound I-94 near Portage, Ind., about 10 p.m. Dec. 5, and then called to say the car was in a ditch. Indiana State Police arrived at the scene within minutes and found the car, but there was no sign of Patrick.

It was a dark night, with overcast skies and only a sliver of the moon,  according to the National Weather Service. The temperature that night was about 28 degrees with a wind chill that made it feel 20.

Police searched the area that night for the car's driver, but assumed she had gotten a ride. "They thought it was just a motorist-assist call," Matyas said.

With no snow on the ground, there were no tracks to follow.

The next day, winter weather set in with a vengeance, with bitter cold moving in. Snow also began falling that weekend.

It wasn't until five days later, Dec. 10, when authorities realized that the abandoned car in Indiana was connected to a missing physician in Kalamazoo.

"By the time they got out there to do another search" where the car was found, Matyas said, the area was snow covered and  a nearby one-acre pond, Lake Charles, was icing over.

"It pretty much stayed that way until recently," Matyas added. "We were out there a week or so ago, and the pond still had ice."

Over the past four months, Indiana and Kalamazoo authorities have conducted numerous ground searches of the area around where the car was located, but the any clues were hidden under snow.

In late January, they also drilled numerous holes through the ice covering Lake Charles and sent down sonar to search the water, to no avail. It was the only time the water was searched, Matyas said.

Then Sunday, a fisherman on Lake Charles found the body of an African-American woman, wearing a heavy black coat -- just as Patrick was wearing the night of Dec. 5.

The body was found in the southeastern corner of the lake, the part of the water that was geographically closest to where Patrick's car was found, a Indiana state police official said Monday.
 ::snipping3::
At a press conference Wednesday, Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller is expected to announced the results of the autopsy.

Assuming that the body is that of Patrick, Matyas said that Fuller will offer some theories about what happened.

Fuller previously said he thought it was most likely that Patrick hitched a ride along the interstate and left the area that night, based on the fact that a bloodhound tracked her scent from the car's location to the edge of the highway.

While the pond is only a few hundred feet from where Patrick's car was found, Fuller had said earlier it seemed unlikely that she went in that direction. That's because a four-foot fence topped with barbed wire -- designed to keep deer and other wildlife from running onto I-94 -- separates the highway from the pond and surrounding area.

"It would take a distinct effort to go in that direction," toward the water, Matyas said. "You can't just walk from the car into the lake."

So very sad but about what I expected.  Strange how she would climb a fence with barbwire at the top of it and with a heavy coat on also.  She was not familiar with that area was she?  So sad she spent the long harsh winter just steps from her vehicle.  Sad they could not have found her sooner.

Prayers go out to her family and friends.  It is a waste of talent that she possessed.  So sorry she did not seek help sooner.

Body found in Indiana still not identified
5:23 p.m. EDT April 8, 2014

PORTER, Ind. (WZZM) -- An autopsy was done Tuesday morning on a body found in Indiana, but there is still no positive identification.

Porter County Coroner, Chuck Harris says they had difficulty using fingerprints, due to the condition of the body. Harris was at the scene Sunday afternoon, when the body was discovered by a fisherman in Lake Charles. "We saw there was a female, African American, wearing all dark clothing."
 ::snipping3::
WZZM 13 News went to the scene Monday and noticed that Teleka would have had to scale a fence with a barbed wire, then walk to the lake, which is about 150 feet away.

"At this time, there is no obvious signs of trauma, however, there was a large degree of decomposition, which would make it difficult to tell if there was trauma or not." Because of that, Harris says facial recognition is not possible. "We're going to have to rely on scientific methods: fingerprints and dental records."

Investigators already have both for Teleka Patrick. "Whoever the family is, we want answers, as soon as possible, to give them closure."

Harris says they will do a complete forensic exam. Investigators want to know whether someone caused the woman's death, or if it was an accident.

A press conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Kalamazoo Sheriff's Department.

Teleka Patrick tried to check in to Kalamazoo hotel on Dec. 5, car was seen driving 'erratically' on I-94, police say
on December 16, 2013 at 6:11 PM

PORTER, Ind. (WOOD) — The body pulled Sunday from a northern Indiana lake is that of missing Kalamazoo doctor Teleka Patrick, Indiana State Police confirmed Wednesday.

During a news conference Wednesday in Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller said it appeared that Patrick accidentally drowned in Lake Charles in Porter, Ind., although toxicology results were needed to confirm that.

The Indiana coroner who conducted the autopsy on Patrick’s body did not find any obvious signs or trauma, and foul play is not expected, Fuller said.

Even though Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller says Teleka Patrick died of accidental drowning, I personally don't think it was an accident.  It wouldn't surprise me if the case is reopened in the future as a homicide.  JMHO

Teleka Patrick case: 6 things we know and 4 questions still unanswered
on April 10, 2014 at 6:30 AM, updated April 10, 2014 at 7:52 AM

 ::snipping3::
4 unanswered questions

1. What was Patrick's mental state the night of Dec. 5?
It now appears Patrick may have had longstanding mental-health issues dating back to her college years. It's also apparent she successfully kept those issues largely hidden from family and friends.

Indeed, most people knew Patrick as a brilliant, high-functioning professional. The same week she disappeared, she received a glowing mid-year evaluation about her psychiatric residency.

According to her ex-husband in California, Patrick was fearful a diagnosis of mental illness would undermine her career. He said she refused to seek treatment for symptoms that included hearing voices and paranoia.

"Teleka appeared to be troubled, but she managed to hide those troubles very convincingly," Fuller said Wednesday.

On the night she disappeared, officials have said, there's evidence she was in mental distress and that may have led to her decision to leave Kalamazoo on the night of Dec. 5.

But the fact is, said Detective Sgt. William Sparrow, the lead investigator in the case, "We don't know what she was thinking" and how that might have contributed to events that night.

On the Find Teleka Facebook page, family members posted Wednesday: "Teleka had a passion and zest for life and no matter the circumstances that led up to her death, we are certain that she would not have taken her own life.

2. Why did Patrick walk away from the highway after her car went off the road?
Before the body was found Sunday, the conventional wisdom among police officials was that Patrick likely walked toward the highway after ditching her car.

Exit 22 off I-94 is visible from where Patrick's car went off the road, and it also was plausible that Patrick hitched a ride along the heavily traveled highway.

By contrast, Lake Charles is separated from I-94 by a four-foot wire fence topped with barbed wire designed to keep wildlife from running onto the road.

Sparrow and Fuller said Wednesday it's not clear why Patrick headed toward the woods and how she got over or through the fence.

"There are all kinds of possibilities" on why she went away from the highway, Fuller said.

One possibility: She may have been drawn by the lights at two truck stops on a service road on the other side of the woods.

As for the fence: "I'm not doing to speculate on how she got through the fence, over the fence or around the fence," Fuller said.

3. Why did a bloodhound tracked Patrick's scent to the highway instead of the woods?
A bloodhound brought in on Dec. 12 by the Indiana State Police tracked Patrick's scent from the location to the car to the highway's edge, and did that twice.

The dog's handler told the Kalamazoo Gazette in January that he had high confidence in the dog's ability.

It's not clear why the dog didn't track Patrick to the woods, Fuller said Wednesday.

4. How did Patrick end up in the pond?
It was a dark night, and the pond is surrounded by an earth berm and considerable brush, Fuller said.

It's possible that Patrick walked over the berm, not realizing what was on the other side, and then stumbled down the steep slope into the water, Fuller said.

"It's very rough terrain," he said.

However, while the pond has a maximum depth of 21 feet, it's not that sudden of a drop-off -- Patrick's body was found in 3 feet of water.

So it's unclear why Patrick didn't quickly pull herself out of the water.

Fuller did not know if Patrick could swim.

Fuller and Sparrow said some aspects of the case will remain unknown, but finding the body at least ends the mystery about Patrick's whereabouts.

"Hopefully this will offer some closure," Fuller said at the press conference. "Our hearts go out to the Patrick family."

Ex-husband says Patrick’s death a tragedy
April 9, 2014 11:12PM
Updated: April 10, 2014 2:03AM

Teleka Patrick’s ex-husband, Ismael Calderon, said Wednesday he was saddened and in a state of shock to hear investigators had confirmed it was Patrick’s body discovered Sunday in Lake Charles in Porter

“There’s still a lot of unanswered questions, like how it happened,” said Calderon, 36, a member of the support staff for the Center of Excellence in Earth Systems Modeling and Observations at Chapman University in Orange, Calif.

“Regardless, this is a tragedy to find her dead. I just can’t see how she could have fallen into a lake.”
 ::snipping3::
In the weeks after her disappearance, Calderon said he believed that either she was dead or being held against her will. Noting that results of an autopsy on Patrick are still preliminary, Calderon said he hopes investigators can definitively rule out foul play.

“The most important thing at this juncture is focusing on the memory of Teleka and consoling her family, and the more mundane thing of having researchers do what they can for a more comprehensive autopsy,” he said.

He finds it particularly difficult to understand how and why she ended up in the lake and was unable to get out. She knew how to swim, he said, because they often went swimming while they lived in Corona, Calif.

“My heart goes out to the family. I’m in shock that she would have drowned in this manner, unless her state of mind was very fragile. I don’t know how this could turn out this way,” he said.

Calderon said he is “unsatisfied” with the answers in the mystery that surrounded Patrick’s death so far, and added more needs to be done to fill in the unknowns.

“This is a tragedy no matter what,” he said.

Thank you for posting the informative article, grace-land.

It's really sad if Teleka was afraid to seek help for her mental health issues as her ex-husband reported.  I don't find it surprising though. There is such a stigma in this country concerning mental illness.  For so long, insurance didn't cover it the same as physical illnesses.  Sometimes treatment can be difficult and expensive and there's still a long way to go with educating the public.  And of course, there's the stigma.   ::MonkeyNoNo::  I wonder how many folks end up homeless or in prison due to untreated or undiagnosed mental illness?

You're welcome, MuffyBee.

In my area, too many people go untreated/undiagnosed because of lack of insurance, lack of mental health facilities, and stigma. Also, cuts in the budget have made the matter worse.  So sad.  They need help desperately in my opinion.

Second autopsy performed on Teleka Patrick
6:52 p.m. EDT April 12, 2014

MARION COUNTY, Indiana (WZZM) -- The private investigator hired by the family of Teleka Patrick says he was present Friday as a second autopsy was conducted on the body of the deceased doctor.

The two-hour procedure was performed in Marion County, Indiana by a forensic pathologist. Private investigator Jim Carlin of Battle Creek says the second autopsy did a much better job of confirming the findings of the first autopsy.

Both autopsies concluded Patrick's death was the result of drowning. The first autopsy on Teleka Patrick was conducted in Porter County, Indiana.

Carlin says arrangements are being made to fly the body of Teleka Patrick to Orlando, Florida where her parents live. A burial will be held on April 25.

Obituary for Dr. Teleka Cassandra Patrick

Teleka Cassandra Patrick was born to Pastor Mattahais and Irene Patrick on September 18, 1983 at Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC. She was the prayed for child, so delicately and wonderfully formed by God, and delivered by Dr. Lennox Westney. She spent her first two years in Hyattsville, Maryland before relocating to Queens, New York where she grew up with her parents and two siblings, Matthias (Eddie) and Tenesha.

Teleka was tender-hearted, loving and lively from the beginning and she shared many happy days with her parents, siblings, cousins and friends. Her early years were rich with travels, church trips, school trips and family fun times. She learned to play the piano and violin at an early age and attended numerous recitals at music schools, church and family special events, nursing homes, concert halls and other places with her siblings. She gained many valuable lessons during her violin training at the Music Institute of Long Island (and at the piano studio), receiving several certificates and awards in instrumental music. These performances of love and kindness planted in Teleka the seeds of caring, sharing, devotion to others, and inspired her to want to become a missionary.

She began reading at age two and a half, and her love for books resulted in her becoming an avid reader. Her parents nurtured her early quest for learning and therefore enrolled her in Kindergarten at PS 147 Ronald McNair School in Queens, New York. Throughout her elementary school years, 1989 to 1996 at Linden SDA School, she excelled in academics and extracurricular activities. She received awards for reading, spelling, math, science, marathons, talent shows, and she earned her way on the Principal’s List each year. Teleka won the Semper Paratus Annual Spelling Bee award for three consecutive years, the Greater Metropolitan New York Math Fair award, and the Northeastern Conference of Education Science Award in 1995. She matriculated from Linden SDA School with highest honors.

Teleka again excelled and obtained awards for math, Spanish and biology during her years at the Bronx High School. In 1997-1998 she was listed in Who’s Who among American High School Students, and in 2000 she received the following awards: Elspeth Krober Award for Biology Research; Bronx High School of Science Research - St. John’s Symposium; Physical Science Journal “Reactions,” and Excellence in the Study of Spanish. Her strength in the sciences bolstered her decision to become a medical research scientist. Thus began her matriculation at Oakwood College (now Oakwood University) in the Fall of 2000.

Teleka diligently pursued her academic goals at Oakwood University and earned her Bachelor’s Degrees in Theology and Biology in 2004. Additionally, she earned the Oakwood College Scholastic Award for three consecutive years and the Oakwood College United Student Movement: USM Senator Award for 2000-2001.

Embarking on college life away from her siblings, Teleka renewed connections with God and formed new connections with college mates. One of her journal entries reads: “My fundamental presupposition about life is that God is most important. That I should please Him in my living is my perspective, based on that presupposition. Accordingly, prayer, Bible study and witnessing are priorities in my life.” Further, she added, “My image of God is rich. He is a loving, merciful, accepting, and benevolent Father. He loves me so much. That’s why he takes care of me every day. He is also a high and exalted God who should be worshipped – just because He is God.” She also said, “Thanks God, that I belong to You. J There are lots of words to say and I don’t know which ones will make your day – But I’m just a little kid – a little girl – a little squirt – a little tot – in awe of You, Lord. Love Ya! J xoxo”

A friend reflecting on his college years with Teleka writes, “We would talk about everything: theology, assignments, relationships, future plans, etc. I was having a really hard time that year. I had a bad case of senioritis and was going through some really difficult personal issues. I wasn’t handling things well and was having my worst semester academically and socially. Yet those walks and talks were like water to my soul. She only sought to encourage me and lift me up. And that’s exactly what she did. I’m certain she helped me more than I helped her.”
Teleka began her graduate studies at Loma Linda University in June 2004 where she completed research on Neonatal Hypoxia-Ischemia and Survival Disparity among African American Women with Breast Cancer, the latter being her research focus. Her journey was long and sometimes bumpy but she persevered to accomplish her goal of a medical degree and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry. She received funding for her research from the Center for Health Disparities and Molecular Medicine, as well as from the National Institutes of Health. Her passion to become a child psychiatrist took her to Western Michigan University School of Medicine. Her time there was cut short by her untimely death.

Teleka was compassionate, encouraging and always offered a positive outlook on any situation. She was good-natured, peaceful, good-humored, and generous. We will miss her beautiful smile, warm personality and sound wisdom which she shared liberally with others. She leaves her parents, siblings, grandfather and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, friends, church family and acquaintances to mourn our loss, to cherish her memory, and to continue her legacy of caring.

Teleka is now sleeping in Jesus until we meet again!

Services are entrusted to WALDON Professional Funeral & Cremation Services which is located at 710 Lexington Green Lane in Sanford, Florida.
