Woman found dead inside recycling center
January 29, 2014

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A woman’s body was found inside a Travis County recycling facility on Monday and police are now investigating the death as a homicide.

Travis County deputies responded to 9301 Johnny Morris Road and found 26-year-old Shaybren Harris dead at the scene.

According to the manager of Balcones Resources, Inc., the body was found by an employee sorting through collected materials. When the worker saw Harris’s body on the conveyor belt, they pulled the emergency stop and called police.

“We just feel horrible for the family of the person whose body we found,” said Kerry Getter, CEO of Balcones Resources. “We don’t know anything about her, where she came from…literally know nothing at this point.”

Getter said 75 to 100 trucks, from multiple companies, may drop off tons of recycling material at the center for processing on a given day. Those trucks collect the recyclables from bins throughout the region.

“Evidently the body came in with some of that material that was delivered and it wasn’t discovered until later that night,” Getter said. ”We do have surveillance. We don’t  know if this was caught on that surveillance or by those cameras or not.”

Authorities say the medical examiner’s study of the body was not complete but the death is being investigated as a homicide.
