The FDA has announced that as a precaution, it is voluntarily recalling approximately 14,860 pounds of hummus and dip products due to concerns about possible Listeria monocytogenes.
It’s an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems.
Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The FDA is recalling all of the products manufactured at the same facility and distributed to both wholesalers and retailers.
Some of the hummus and dips being recalled are sold at Target and Trader Joes.
The following products are included in the recall:
Target Archer Farms Traditional Hummus
Target Archer Farms Traditional Hummus — an ingredient item used in SuperTarget store production of Archer Farms Mediterranean Veggie Hummus Wraps and Archer Farms Hummus Veggie Snacker
Target Archer Farms Roasted Garlic with Roasted Garlic Tapenade
Target Archer Farms Roasted Red Pepper with Roasted Red Pepper topping
Giant Eagle Chipotle Hummus
Giant Eagle Garlic Hummus
Trader Joe’s Edamame Hummus
Trader Joe’s Five-Layered Dip (Small)
Trader Joe’s Five-Layered Dip (Large)
Tryst Yellow Lentil Hummus with Sunflower Seeds & Apricots
The potential for contamination was found during a routine test of Target Archer Farms Traditional Hummus (10 ounce) by the Texas Department of Health.
No illness has been reported.
Consumers who have purchased the above hummus products are urged not to eat it and to dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

I apologize for posting this in the "News of the Day" area.  It should be in "Food and Product Recalls".  I've asked Klaas to move it when she has time.   ::buzzbee3::
