Title: People Really Do Care - A Sad Story
Post by: Tibrogargan on July 23, 2007, 12:36:38 AM
I am posting this not to make the monkeys sad, but to point out that there are a lot of people in the world who care about others even though they do not know them personally.  I am sure this little soul is now with the angels.

Emotional funeral for dumped baby boy

21st July 2007, 13:30 WST

A tiny baby boy was laid to rest today mourned by 130 strangers after the newborn’s body was found discarded in a handbag at a Perth (Western Australia)  recycling plant. People came from across the city for the service to be the family for a “sweet, innocent little soul“, who had been given the biblical name of Luke.Flowers and teddy bears were placed on the ground next to the small white casket by the tearful mourners, as white doves and baby blue balloons were set free and handfuls of glitter sprinkled on his casket.

The baby was believed to have been dead for a week when his body was discovered last month in a handbag among household garbage at the Atlas Recycling facility in north suburban Malaga.Luke’s mother has never come forward, and although police were hoping she might be at today’s funeral it’s not known whether or not she was there.Celebrant Janice Kane said today’s gathering was a wonderful display of love and compassion for Luke.“We are all gathered as strangers, yet we all have one thing in common, we all care for little Luke and his family,” Ms Kane said.“So today our thoughts aren’t only with Luke, they are with his mother as well.“Just for today we can be his family, a family in mourning for the loss of a loved one.”Luke was buried wearing a donated silk christening gown and a specially made teddy bear.

A donated head stone bearing his adopted name will mark his burial plot at Perth’s Karrakatta cemetery. One mourner, Gail, 43, said she had come to say goodbye.“I have eight beautiful grandchildren and I just feel so sad. Nobody deserves what this poor little baby has been through. I’ve just come to say goodbye to him.”Noel Morich, 63, said he had been to a similar funeral a decade ago.“I’ve gone to another one like this 10 years ago. Little Joe buried up in West Swan, found in a dumpster on the South Perth foreshore,” Mr Morich said. Some compassionate people got together and laid little Joe to rest and now we’re seeing the same thing with little Luke laid to rest.”At the end of the service donations were collected for Perth’s Princess Margaret Children’s Hospital.AAP
