Those Born 1930-1979

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they
were pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get
tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs
covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to
mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.

As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster
seats, seat belts or air bags.

Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with
sugar, but we weren't overweight because,

WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!


We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back
when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the
hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a
few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nitendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150
channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell
phones, no personal computer! s, no Internet or chat rooms.......

WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits
from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us
forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and
tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out
very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the
bell, or just walked in and talked to them!

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had
to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They
actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers
and inventors ever!

The past 50 years have been an explosion of inovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL
WITH IT ALL!

If YOU are one of them...CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as
kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good.

oh, you just didn't know it.  Boys can be sneaky when added ingrediants to sandwiches and pudding cups.   :D

But eating MUD Pies  :smt018   Bugs yes :roll:.. but not mud.

I am with you gals.. never ate bugs or mudpies.   :2doh:
We did dare some gal when we were younger once to eat a worm. she did.. and then we got to watch her puke. :shock:
 I was born in 65.. did much of what you posted. played outside all day with friends, rode bikes.. made coverwagons with the neighbor kids.. our brothers al had those wooden Wagons..we took wire hangers.. and bent them ..covered it with a sheet. and VOILA..  covered wagons. WOW.. what imgaginations we had.. LOL. went on little trips.. LOL <just for a few hours> with PB&J sandwhiches and Little Debbie snack cakes and hugs juice drinks  :lol: :lol:
 Used to hop up and down the street on a pogo stick.   :cool: OMG.. cant imagine doing that now. LMAO  Id kill myself. High School.. before I got my license.. <before I was 16>.. and I wanted to go to a friends and my parents worked. and had no way of getting there. I hopped on my 10 speed and took off.. Im talking going 2 towns away from where I lived.  :shock: I did some things I think back on now.. that I was absoultey CRAZY for doing. Like climbing up a train tressel with friends that was  VERY HIGH above the road.. and spray painting our names.. Like me back then. BRAD was my BF..  Painted Angie loves Brad.. standing on this little ledge and holding on for dear life with one hand.. paint can in the other.  :shock: :shock:  Its a wonder none of us fell.. and whats wild is that after ALL these years.. the grafette is STILL there. ROFLMAO.  Brad ended up being my first hubby and father of my daughter.   I think I am too old now to go back up there and paint over it.. HA HA HA.
 I need to shut up.. LOL  Loved the post, and the great memoried its brought back  :)

  LMAO  The same wagon we used wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy back when. OMG the wirehhangers we used  too.. 
Made our brothers drag us around.. LOL

We didn't call friends on our cell phones, we walked, ran or rode bikes over to their houses.  We played dodgeball and made snow forts and tunnels.  If there was a snowstorm, we stayed home and jumped off the porch into the snowdrifts.  I didn't need a play room for all my toys, they were in my room where I played with them.  They didn't take up the whole room.  My mother made clothes for my Barbie doll.  I didn't have 12 Barbies for every occasion.  I had 2.  One blonde, one brunette.  We had one bathroom for 4 of us.  Somehow we got by without everyone having their own sink and bathroom.  We played tag football in the backyard.  We bought penny candy at the little store across from the school.  We called it the "school store".  Our neighbors knew who we were so we never thought we could get away with much or someone would tell our parents.  Our parents didn't threaten to sue anyone who reprimanded us or teachers who disciplined us.  If we did something wrong, we deserved it.
