Teen Stabs Would-Be Kidnapper With Pencil, Gets Away Unharmed

 TUCKER, Ga. —

A 14-year-old girl used a pencil to ward off two men who tried to kidnap her Monday on her way home from dance practice, WGCL is reporting.

When the men tried to grab her, she used a pencil to stab on of the men in the arm, police said.

Evacuations Begin For Ojo Peak Fire

MOUNTAINAIR, N.M. -- Firefighters began evacuating homes in Torrance County early Wednesday morning because of a growing brush fire. Voluntary evacuations are now in place for people living in homes in the Game Road area near Mountainair.

The Ojo Peak Fire is burning on the southern end of the Manzano Mountain Wilderness northwest of the Pine Shadow trailhead. It has charred an estimated 250 acres in rough, rocky terrain and the flames have begun to creep closer to homes.

The Red Cross has set up a shelter to help displaced families at Mountainair High School. Red Cross officials say they have prepared enough space for 300 families to stay.

Heavy smoke from the wildfire burning in the Manzano Mountains had forced state officials to close Manzano Mountains State Park Tuesday. The park is not in immediate danger, but officials say it will remain closed until further notice.

Crews from around central New Mexico are battling the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Scientists Uncover Fossil of Biggest Bug Ever at 8 Feet Long

This was a bug you couldn't swat and definitely couldn't step on.

British scientists have stumbled across a fossilized claw, part of an ancient sea scorpion, that is of such large proportion it would make the entire creature the biggest bug ever.

How big? Bigger than you, and at 8 feet long as big as some Smart cars.

The discovery in 390-million-year-old rocks suggests that spiders, insects, crabs and similar creatures were far larger in the past than previously thought, said Simon Braddy, a University of Bristol paleontologist and one of the study's three authors.

"This is an amazing discovery," he said Tuesday.

"We have known for some time that the fossil record yields monster millipedes, super-sized scorpions, colossal cockroaches, and jumbo dragonflies. But we never realized until now just how big some of these ancient creepy-crawlies were," he said.

The research found a type of sea scorpion that was almost half a yard longer than previous estimates and the largest one ever to have evolved.

The study, published online Tuesday in the Royal Society's journal Biology Letters, means that before this sea scorpion became extinct it was much longer than today's average man is tall.

Prof. Jeorg W. Schneider, a paleontologist at Freiberg Mining Academy in southeastern Germany, said the study provides valuable new information about "the last of the giant scorpions."

Schneider, who was not involved in the study, said these scorpions "were dominant for millions of years because they didn't have natural enemies. Eventually they were wiped out by large fish with jaws and teeth."

Braddy's partner paleontologist Markus Poschmann found the claw fossil several years ago in a quarry near Prum, Germany, that probably had once been an ancient estuary or swamp.

"I was loosening pieces of rock with a hammer and chisel when I suddenly realized there was a dark patch of organic matter on a freshly removed slab. After some cleaning I could identify this as a small part of a large claw," said Poschmann, another author of the study.

"Although I did not know if it was more complete or not, I decided to try and get it out. The pieces had to be cleaned separately, dried, and then glued back together. It was then put into a white plaster jacket to stabilize it," he said.

Eurypterids, or ancient sea scorpions, are believed to be the extinct aquatic ancestors of today's scorpions and possibly all arachnids, a class of joint-legged, invertebrate animals, including spiders, scorpions, mites and ticks.

Braddy said the fossil was from a Jaekelopterus Rhenaniae, a kind of scorpion that lived only in Germany for about 10 million years, about 400 million years ago.

He said some geologists believe that gigantic sea scorpions evolved due to higher levels of oxygen in the atmosphere in the past. Others suspect they evolved in an "arms race" alongside their likely prey, fish that had armor on their outer bodies.

Braddy said the sea scorpions also were cannibals that fought and ate one other, so it helped to be as big as they could be.

"The competition between this scorpion and its prey was probably like a nuclear standoff, an effort to have the biggest weapon," he said. "Hundreds of millions of years ago, these sea scorpions had the upper hand over vertebrates — backboned animals like ourselves."

That competition ended long ago.

But the next time you swat a fly, or squish a spider at home, Braddy said, try to "think about the insects that lived long ago. You wouldn't want to swat one of those."

Wisconsin Wife Says No Beer, Husband Retaliates By Shooting Pet Goats

 WAUPACA, Wis —

A man who was upset with his wife for not buying beer took vengeance by shooting one of the family's two pet goats, prosecutors say.

Peter W. Mischler, 48, was charged this week in Circuit Court with mistreatment of animals, possession of a firearm while intoxicated and disorderly conduct with a dangerous weapon.

The complaint said Mischler came home Saturday from hunting and became angry with his 22-year-old daughter for letting the goats out and making a mess. While she was talking on the phone to her mother, authorities said, he told her to tell his wife to bring home some beer, but his wife refused.

He then threatened to shoot the goats, according to the complaint.

After his wife arrived home, she and the daughter heard four gunshots and went outside and found one of the two goats with its entrails hanging out, authorities said. They said that goat had to be killed later by a sheriff's deputy.

Mischler posted a $1,000 cash bond set by Circuit Judge Raymond Huber and was released.

A hearing was scheduled for Dec. 4.

Meet Lil'Bit - the cat with two faces

Everybody knows that cats have nine lives. But one very special and much loved cat has been born with TWO faces - and very possibly, two brains.

The owner of the tomcat called Lil'Bit - as in 'A little bit of love' - nearly dropped the kitten in shock when its extra features were revealed.

But the 47-year old woman owner from Arizona, USA, was determined that the odd arrival, although ill, should not be put to sleep and she pledged to become Lil'Bit's carer.

Lil'Bit was born with four eyes, but two merged into eachother

Now, seven months later, after feeding the mog from a pipette on baby milk and eventually more solid food, he is apparently thriving and seems likely to live to a grand old age.

Lil'Bit had four eyes when he was born, although the two middle eyes are on the point of merging, two mouths, two noses, but just two ears. And vets believe the cat may actually have two brains as one face can go to sleep while the other remains awake. If Lil'Bit gets a cold, the nose on only one of her faces will run.

Lil'Bit was one of five kittens born in a litter from his mum, Lil'Pine, seven months ago. His two brothers and two sisters only had the regulation one face.

The cat's owner, who wishes to remain anonymous as she believes unwanted callers to her home to see the cat may leave Lil'Bit stressed and ill, told how she discovered the puss with two faces.

She said yesterday: 'The kittens were born underneath my computer table. When I picked Lil'Bit up I suddenly spotted that he had two faces. I was so shocked that I nearly dropped him.

'I called a kitten rescue service and they told me not to expect him to survive. But I didn't see why he shouldn't be given the chance to live. Everything is possible.

'I got him a heating pad and started feeding him every 15 minutes from an eye-dropper. I fed him like that for two or three months before starting him on proper cat food.

'He finds it hard to walk normally so there was a litter problem because he couldn't do it himself. So I hit on the idea of using premature baby diapers on him. It seems to work well.

'The amazing thing to watch is that one of Lil'Bit's faces can be asleep while the other one is awake. I have also seen him sneeze out of one side and not the other and blink on one side of his face but not the other.

'And when he purrs it is like he is purring in stereo.

'We haven't had any X-rays done or operations under anaesthesia because I think that could upset Lil'Bit. But the vet seems to think there is a good chance there are two brains operating here. It seems logical as she breathes out of both mouths and noses.

The mother of two boys added: 'The whole family loves Lil'Bit.

One of gods miracles..I hope that lil guy lives a long happy life!!

I got my livingroom all painted today.  Tomorrow the dining room and the hallway.  We built our new home 8 years ago, so I thought it was time for fresh coat of paint inside.

The only thing with home improvement projects is they tend to multiply.  Once you get the living room done, the dining room looks bad and then it needs to be done and then the kitchen begins to need a spruce up...we did our bathroom this summer and now I am so wanting to redo the kitchen..it never ends.  Hope your projects turn out well.

I did take the time to go to CNN and vote for Pat. He is one heck of a kiddo. I did hear the Dana Show when he was interviewed along with his Mumma. All of those people are heroes. But for a child, he had lots of grace and emotional intelligence. Put many adults I know to shame.

Company Recalls Cheese Over Bacteria Fear

A Tennessee company is recalling cheese sold in seven states and distributed nationwide in gift baskets that could be contaminated with dangerous bacteria. No illnesses have been reported.

Sweetwater Valley Farms Inc. said its Southern Cheddar Jack Volunteer Special Cheese was distributed in 7-, 10-, 15-ounce and 5-pound blocks sold in retail stores in Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, Maryland and Alabama.

The cheese from lot number 539 was distributed between Sept. 19 and Nov. 18. It was also potentially distributed across the continental U.S. in gift baskets sold on the company's Web site.

Another Tennessee-based wholesaler, Le Gourmet Connection, said it sold 10-ounce blocks of the cheese through Jungle Jim's International Market in Fairfield, Ohio, between Aug. 28 and Nov. 19.

Sweetwater Valley Farms said the product could be contaminated with Listeria monocytongenes, a bacteria that can cause serious, sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. Short-term symptoms in healthier people include high fever, severe headaches, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

The contamination was discovered in a routine sampling by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture. The company said in a news release that is investigating how the contamination happened. A phone message seeking more details was not immediately returned on Friday.

Customers are urged to discard the product or return it for a full refund. They can call (877) 862-4332 for more information.

Now, the tribal customs of Manneh and other West African immigrants have become the focus of an unusual criminal case charging her with meat smuggling, and touching on issues of religious freedom, infectious diseases and wildlife preservation.

The case "appears to be the first of its kind relating to that uniquely African product," defense attorney Jan Rostal wrote in a pending motion to dismiss. "Unfortunately, it represents the sort of clash of cultural and religious values inherent in the melting pot that is America."

At the center of the case in federal court is a modest woman with nine children and a history of domestic discord.

Manneh, 39, is serving a two-year sentence in state prison for trying to run over a woman she suspected of sleeping with her husband, Zanger Jefferson. If convicted of the federal charges she faces up to five more years in prison and deportation.

I'm doing home improvements too.

I live in an apartment, so often times the landlady pays for repairs. The manager, Grigor, painted my kitchen cabinets Cranberry Punch. He sanded and cleaned and took three days to paint. They are gorgeous and I love red.

Like Lala's said, "The only thing with home improvement projects is they tend to multiply." Lala's speaks the truth. 

Next, I hired Grigor to paint my front door inside and outside. The color is called Cottage Red (darker than the kitchen), About a month ago, they were filming something across the street. The crew made a fake front door on the building across the street and I ran out to find out what color it was.

Since Grigor was going to paint the front door, I decided it was time for me to change the locks as they are very troublesome. Instead of unlocking the deadbolt first and then the door knob, it only worked doing the reverse.

I was lost in Rompage True Value Hardware. I don't go to Home Depot or OSH because there is no one to help me. They had about a million door knobs. I had no clue. I went back home to consult with Grigor. He said to get a combo pack of a door knob and a dead bolt. I had to buy another thingie because my door knob is five inches from the door frame. The combo pack cost $60 and the thingie was $20. I went with a Schlage product. It took Grigor many hours to figure out how to install the locks with all their little complexities. But he did it.

I like Schlage because it is German. A schlage is a hit ... like these ten schlages are on the top of the hit parade. In German, it is pronounced shlag-eh. I was really surprised to find out in America is it pronounced shlayg. Anyway, I'm drifting.

Next, I want to do the kitchen floor with 12" square self stick Armstrong tiles but I can't find the right color.

I recently spent a lot of money on frames and matts so that is a project that has been sitting here for two months.

I have a lot of ideas.

SuzieQ we live in the boonies too and no cable. We are on the end of the phone line and kept getting dropped on dialup. We had to get a dish as DD does classes online during the summer. It doesn't cost much more as we dropped our landline, but you have the initial outlay for equipment. We have a problem every now and then when it's extremely cloudy and can't get service. Frustrating!

SarahD...we're still finishing up odds and ends on our new house. We did a lot ourselves, so still have to finish off our garage and basement and I'm planning landscaping right now. By the time that's all done it will be time to paint again.

It was a "duh" move I made. The back of the remote was off and I didn't have my glasses on... went through the very nice customer service of Direct TV and found I'd but the batteries in wrong.

Lala's you bad monkey!!  If you had any idea the STRESS I'm under over this whole food thing you'd realize I'm kinda freakin out over it! lol.  I went a couple of weeks ago and ordered my mother of the bride dress.  I ordered the size I currently wear.  I ask the lady how much alterations would be as I plan on losing a significant amount of weight by my daughters wedding in March.  She said that would be no problem as the max. amount charged for alterations would be $30.00   I'm on a budget ya'll.

So I'm feeling pretty confident right?  I've got till the 2nd weekend in March right?   Oh heck no.  This past week I get a call from the lady that I will have to order a size smaller for some rediculous reason.  :smt102  ......AND I must be fitted no later than the 1st of FEB.  :smt091 :2brickwall: :smt064 :cyclops: :smt014  Forgot about that whole time for alterations detail.

First off why in the world do most ALL of the dresses it seems that you must chose from when trying things on all come in a size 8 or smaller?  What is so wrong about that picture. huh?  I mean I'm not huge or anything but good grief!

I really couldn't care less about fashion.  Just give me a pair of blue jeans and a hoodie, and I'm good to go.  Sooooo I tell my daughter and her future sister in law (the brats) to just pick me out some dresses.  I don't care what they look like.,  If they think they're nice then that's good enough for me.  They pick me out 3 beautiful dresses.  Dresses I would have never picked out, but after seeing them I'm thinkin yea I could pull that off.  So I try on the first dress that I really like the best, and looks really good on me, but it was the wrong color...and of course it's too little.   Nooooooo that dress is no longer made. SO WHY IS IT STILL ON THE RACK!!!!  I skipped right over the second dress because after giving it another look I realized that that is sumpin my mom woulda wore, and ya'll I'm just not goin there yet.    ssshhheeettt.  So I've got the last dress to try on.  It's a freakin size 8.  HELLO???  I do manage to get the thing over my head and down to my azz (yea it wasn't goin over that I tell ya), and I'm all twisted up, and here I am all alone in the dressing room with no help to get this bad boy off.  So I just figured WTH everyone can use a good laugh so I just marched right out into the little area right outside the dressing room and shouted "would someone like to help me pleae"?  Tennis shoes and all.  It was not a -pretty picture.  So everyone is crackin up.  I'm being as moddess as I can but I can't get the gosh darn thing off!  So here comes my daughters future mother in law miss priss little petite thang (it's a good thing I really like her) to get me outta this garb.   She said you want to go up to St. Louis and look around?  I said he** no I'm bying this dress.  Well not this particular dress but one like it a little bigger.  I'm done wit dis.  :lol: :lol:

MuminOhio  actually planning a wedding is quite fun.  It doesn't have to be all crazy and stressful.  I've always been organized so that makes it easier.  And being able to laugh at yourself helps a lot.   :cool:  The only thing I have found that is quite rediculous is all the ettiquette rules.  :roll:   Gotta do this right ya know.

TY for the concern about my health. I am pretty good. I am still wearing my Halloween hair and face. UGH. And I do mean UGH !  My hair is wrecked from chlorine in the pool, funny color and it is Fugly. Can't find a nice hat either.

We have socilaized medicine here in Canada, always long waiting lists for everything. If I was real sick I sure would not be at work most of the time as we have leave wth pay and all sorts of plans and whatever for these things.

With all the stress dur to recent events, I found some humor helpful :
After Mr. and Mrs. Fenton retired, Mrs. Fenton insisted her husband
accompany her on her trips to Wal-Mart.

Unfortunately, Mr. Fenton was like most men--he found shopping boring and
preferred to get in and get out. Equally unfortunately, Mrs. Fenton was like
most women--she loved to browse.

One day Mrs. Fenton received the following letter from her local Wal-Mart.

Dear Mrs. Fenton,

Over the past six months, your husband has been causing quite a commotion in
our store. We cannot tolerate this behavior and may be forced to ban both of
you from the store. Our complaints against Mr. Fenton are listed below and
are documented by our video surveillance cameras.

1. June 15: Took 24 boxes of condoms and randomly put them in people's carts
when they weren't looking.

2. July 2: Set all the alarm clocks in Housewares to go off at 5-minute

I am no fan of Michael Vick, but enough already. What he and his cohorts did was egregious and terrible but it seems that the feds and state prosecutors are going way over the top on this thing.

Are the charges and admitted acts serious and worthy of punishment? Most certainly. Are the dogs involved victims of cruel and inhumane treatment and deserving of better? Without a doubt. Should Vick and his posse have to face punishment according to the law? You bet.

Having said all the foregoing, there are some things about this whole thing that bother me. One thing that bothers me is Senator Robert Byrd standing at the podium in the Senate chamber and yelling “BARBARIC, BARBARIC, BARBARIC” with reference to what Vick did.

Without minimizing what Vick did, I would suggest that there are some who have committed crimes far worse and received far less punishment. It appears that we are much more indignant and incensed when an animal is involved than when it is a man, woman, boy or girl. That is crazy and shows convoluted values.

I would offer Vick one bit of advice. If you want to ever again fight dogs and run the risk of being caught, then just go to Aruba. Down there, you can get away with murder.

Good morning. 

For the 4th day in a row, my internet and home phone are down.  Bundle my fanny!  If not for my cell phone, I couldn't even call them to tell them it was broken!  They can't decide if its an outage or not so they're sending a technician.  This oughta be good.  I have to be there because the dmarc is in the back yard....with the four loud-mouth dogs..none of whom is dangerous, just dangerously LOUD!  And it's Friday so he's going to show up in the middle of General Hospital. 

I hope this is the biggest worry I have today.  I almost feel guilty for griping in view of all the other things going on in the world.  I wish everyone a lovely day wherever you are.

Klaas, thank you.  I know you are not Canadian, but I'm going to write that one down with the Canola oil because I think that one sounds closer to what I want, "pecan pie" without the pecans and you need to lean forward to eat it, to prevent it from falling on your clothes.... I believe that one will be fine.  I will try it and let everyone know how it turned out.  I had a Canadian friend who made them who died a few years ago and DH reminded me of them and it had been a while since I thought about them.  I am excited to have the recipe and hope that it turns out half as good as hers.

Well, my little guy does his First Reconciliation tonight!!! Yep!! the spill the guts in the confessional!! I am so nervous!! Hope he doesn't come out crying like I did on my first one...and 2nd..and 3rd...lol

Everything will be alright.   :smt052  You are remembering back to your own experiences  plus you have those maternal feelings as a Mom  watching your child go through some of the same things.  This  can definitely be nerve wracking.  It's good to be understanding, but try to stay calm and confident.  Your feelings and emotions carry over.  Well, mine do anyway LOL.  I've found my teenager telling me sometimes "it's alright Mom", when I get worried.  Kids are insightful.  This is a big moment for your little guy.  And for you.  Big changes.

Muffy, You are right, children are very insightful. I was a divorced single mother. One day I came home from work, talked to my mother, and threw myself crying hysterically on my bed. My two year old put her little hand on my back and said "it will be ok."

You are right though...I had flashbacks to the old nuns!! lol I wasn't the only one though...us parents started sharing horror stories!!! The kids did great and it was so beautiful and they all looked like such ladies and gentlemen all dressed up!!! It was very very wonderful!!!

We can't have that happen when Natalee goes missing or any other missing person. I became t-d off about something having to do with missing Donna Jou, besides the fact she was lied to over the Internet.

TES was coming to search and the LE, supposedly, LAPD, told TES there was no place to search near where she was last seen for it was a big population of homes and apartments ie: no vacant land.

So I went out and took pictures. These are in the Donna Jou thread here under missing persons. Many Monkeys are involved.

I'd like for us, here on this thread, to know that tomorrow Dr. Phil will have Donna Jou's parents on. It's about the safety or lack of safety on the Internet and missing persons. It was filmed in the middle of Oct.

IMO we can all help by emailing his show for a follow up on this and Donna Jou.

If searches can be declined when requested by an American family of a missing child in the US, how can we expect a foreign govt. to search?

This will help all missing Americans, no matter where they are missing.

I am asking all our Good Monkeys here to keep rallying here and to keep tabs on this case as it has many similar challenges, known and unknown."

Man Fishing in Canal Finds Bags of Body Parts

Ormond Beach Police say they're unsure whether the remains belong to more than one person. 

A bag filled with human remains found by a fisherman Thursday morning has launched a murder investigation inside a state park. Investigators say a fisherman found the trash bag containing human remains along the banks of a canal that runs off the Tomoka River near the tomoka state park. Investigators have determined that the remains are a lower leg and foot of a caucasian person.

A search of the canal was conducted by the Volusia County sheriffs' dive team but no other remains were found.

Anyone with information is asked to call Ormond Beach police at 677-0731 or crimestoppers at 277-tips or 1-888-277-TIPS.

 

This is stage 6 of a 7 phase process.

1.  Make dough (2c flour, 1c iodized salt, 1c weak coffee)
2.  Hand mould each bear & place 1/2 paperclip at the top
4.  Bake in the oven at approx 300 degrees until hard
5.  Draw face with fineline marker - color nose with black sharpie,rosie cheeks with red sharpie
6.  Paint with water base paint
7.  Spray with acrylic varnish

Then I use my "seal-a-meal" which is about 30 years old to make little envelopes out of small bubble wrap to store/ship them in.

This is how they look pre-varnishing.  These are the boy bears, the girls are actually much cuter  :wink:

Couple of hints.  Make sure you blend the flour and salt together well before SLOWLY adding the water(coffee).  Add a little of the liquid and stir until it's damp enough to kneed.

Now, where were we?  Oh yes!  ArtColley needs a little teenie weenie closet just right for her little doggie clothes.  I know, but her dog loves those outfits (I think she's created a diva dog, but I won't be the one to tell her).

Oh and there is always CJ and SMSam. I am not sure what they want.  They are always so quiet.  You know, I bet they have a sneaky streak in them.  Just pick out something nice for them.  They are on my good list this year. 

Old Fart needs new smileys. He has a whole bunch, but some new ones would help liven him up a little. Did you know he has a big stick and a whip that he carries around with him?  Trust me on this one Santa...he has to be on the good list.

I think Cuz needs a new football coach there in AR Kansas...your choice... I have run out of ideas.  I tried to give her one from our state.  Oh yes, then there is Yapperz, she's the one with the cow lips.  I know she's been pretty bad this year, but I think it was all Angie's fault.  So maybe if you would bring her a little bling bling she would be happy and content to behave for a while.

Whew!  This list keeping is rough...oh... before I go... I have one more person that needs a surprise this year...Carnut wants a babe with a telescope and something blue or was that a blue something...sorry, I have mallocup everywhere.  Gotta go wash up...I really have to stop eating and writing at the same time. :roll:

Oh and please don't forget our Dihannah..she just twirls and twirls around looking at herself all the time...I would be dizzy if I were her, but I think she likes it.  Just because she looks like a fairy doesn't mean she has any fairy dust...bring her a few different kinds to sample.  She has a hard time making up her mind or is that a hard mind to make work? I can't read my  own writing.

This has been a really emotional week ya'll.  Life is passing me by so quick.  My babies are growing up so fast.  It's so bittersweet.  Our little girl will be graduating from college next Saturday.  Major in Interior Design.  Minor in Architectural Design.  When I first seen her graduation announcements last week I just came unglued.  I'm so incredibly proud of her.  And now we're preparing for her wedding.  It's gone by too fast. 

And my little boy.  My precious little boy.  He's 18 now.  Just a fine young man.  This past week we were heading up to the mall to get what I thought was a sweater or something from Bath & Body works for his girlfriend.  He wanted me to go with him.  So we're heading up the highway and I'm asking him what kind of sweater did he think she would like or what's her favorite perfume, etc.  He says "well mom actually I'm thinking about a ring".  :shock:  So now my mind has kicked into high gear.  My heart is racing.  Trying to keep my eye on the road.  Remembering to be very careful what I say.  So as calmly as I could I say "well honey don't you think this is kind of rushing it?  You know you have at least 5 years of education to go right?"  And he starts laughing.  He says "mom I'm just talking about a promise ring.  Not an engagement ring for crying out loud".lol  So my heart slows down a little bit.  And I say "so you really like this gal huh"?  She really is a sweetheart.  So the next question is "do you have enough money"?  pppfffttt.  Thankfully he said yes.  So he picked out the perfect ring for her.  So then I laid it on him that "you know you have to ask her daddy first, right"?  I thought he was gonna have a heart attack!  :lol:  My bad.  :P   So we shall see......

Please bring Louise something pretty to match her red door.  Maybe some new doormats with matching cushions for her lawn furniture.  I hope she doesn't live in an apartment, I guess that would be too much stuff, but you can decide when you get there. No, Santa, I don't know where she lives...you are suppose to know all that stuff. 

Bleachedblack has been working real hard this year, but I can't decide what she needs.  Did you happen to get her wish list?  I was thinking a new hairdresser might be nice.  Sometimes you get a bad one and it's all downhill from there. Oh well.

Now, here's my dilemma... I need to get Tylergal and Anna on that list, but I just don't know what they need.  I am sure Anna could use a little more rain so all that bamboo would grow.  You know I bet she would share some of it with you if you wanted to give it to the pandas..she's a nice person about those things.  Tylergal is a hard to one to give to...but I am sure you know that already.  Whatever you give her make sure it's the right colors...orange and blue.

IBE is the nickname of my late mom. I use it in honor of her 45 yrs of teaching and being a good person and mom too.

She was also a big believer in God's retribution... just it didn't always work on "our" timeline. She used to tell me that all the good that we do isn't always to be done for "thanks here" but for those gold stars that God and St. Peter have on their charts.. like the gold stars we used to get on spelling tests. I know she must have had spreadsheets full of them. I miss her very much.

Klaas, when you did the searching for the missing pilot under Amazon Turk... is it possible to have a link that would show other satellite live images to see and zero into.. like in CA?

I'm not sure that the criteria is for Amazon Turk, if someone official needs to request it or what but you can't just do satellite searches for anything, it has to be set up by Amazon Turk.  They must coordinate with someone with current satellite or aerial views of geographical areas.  Maybe someone from the Donna Jou team can contact them?  Not sure how to go about that.

It has been brought to my attention that I have deeply offended some sweet monkey with my Santa letters.  I am so very, very sorry.  I was hoping to give a little holiday cheer to all of us that have come to be family here. I am fast approaching my 10K post!  Yes, hard to believe we have been here so long and I have posted so much.

To me, this will be pretty special.  While we no longer have our titled based on number of posts that we had in the past, I want something for this high number of posts, not anything with responsibility like mod or hall monitor as I don't have time but maybe a tiny badge under my avatar or a star or something.

Then I can arrest BLAH when he sasses me!  I know, I know, we don't need no steenkin batches!!!  But would be nice to at least issue him a warning or two from time to time.

in the spirit of all the letters to Santa... true story.
I babysat for my friend on Saturday, a 18 month old and a 4 year old. They are both adorable little boys... so we played with all my old, (some of them are 20 yrs old) happy meal toys that I keep for when kids come over.  And we made cookies... so on Sunday my friend told me that when he went to see Santa he proudly told Santa he had made cookies for him, but that they were at "mommy's friend's house" and he would need to be sure he got his cookies while he was here.  He was very proud of his cookies...

I am so pleased to see Lalas posting her letters to Santa again, and with the help now of our cute little Beagle.  I know Beagles are good at sniffing out goodies so I guess she must have been lured by the Mallow Cups that Lalas is addicted to.

And also if you two favourite Santa helpers would kindly let him know that the big bunch of Eucalyptus leaves and West Australian wildflowers that I will leave outside my door are NOT Reindeer fodder, but a gift for MumInOhio so she can enjoy some scents from her homeland.

After the disappointments of the past several days it would be just too much to find out that we may have an Ebenezer Scrooge Monkey in our cage that can take offense at any lighthearted and humourous posts such as Lalas does for us at this time of year.   I hope they realise the joy of Christmas and the fun of friendship and love that can exist in this cage, and also what a smart and hard working Monkey our Lalas has been all the way throughout our two and half year long battle to get Justice for Natalee and Peace for her family.

BTW for those Monkeys that wonder why I do not clean the cage after everyone has gone back to their treetops - did you not notice that our new forum cages are self-cleaning?  It is still a good idea not to throw too many banana peels though as they do make the floor slippery.

 Researchers in South Korea have cloned a cat and modified its genes so that it will glow red under ultraviolet light, the Korea Times reports.

The Gyeongsang National University researchers, led by Prof. Kong Il-keun, modified the genes of Turkish Angora cats so that a red protein would glow in their skin when exposed to ultraviolet light, the paper reports.

The scientists modified the skin cells of the mother cat by using a virus to make the protein fluoresce, according to the Times.

Four of the glowing kittens were born in January and February of this year, but only three survived.

The wreckage of a pirate ship abandoned by Captain Kidd in the 17th century has been found by divers in shallow waters off the Dominican Republic, a research team claims.

 
The underwater archaeology team, from Indiana University, says they have found the remains of Quedagh Merchant, actively sought by treasure hunters for years.


Charles Beeker of IU said his team has been licensed to study the wreckage and convert the site into an underwater preserve for the public.


It is remarkable that the wreck has remained undiscovered all these years given its location, just 70 feet off the coast of Catalina Island in the Dominican Republic in less than 10 feet of seawater.


"I've been on literally thousands of shipwrecks in my career," Beeker said. "This is one of the first sites I've been on where I haven't seen any looting. We've got a shipwreck in crystal clear, pristine water that's amazingly untouched. We want to keep it that way, so we made the announcement now to ensure the site's protection from looters."


The find is valuable because of what it could reveal about William Kidd and piracy in the Caribbean, said John Foster, California's state underwater archaeologist, who is participating in the research.


Historians differ on whether Kidd was actually a pirate or a privateer — someone who captured pirates. After his conviction of piracy and murder charges in a sensational London trial, he was left to hang over the River Thames for two years.


Historians write that Kidd captured the Quedagh Merchant, loaded with valuable satins and silks, gold, silver and other East Indian merchandise, but left the ship in the Caribbean as he sailed to New York on a less conspicuous sloop to clear his name of the criminal charges.


IU Anthropologist Geoffrey Conrad said the men Kidd entrusted with his ship reportedly looted it and then set it ablaze and adrift down the Rio Dulce. Conrad said the location of the wreckage and the formation and size of the canons, which had been used as ballast, are consistent with historical records of the ship. They also found pieces of several anchors under the cannons.


"All the evidence that we find underwater is consistent with what we know from historical documentation, which is extensive," Conrad said. "Through rigorous archeological investigations, we will conclusively prove that this is the Capt. Kidd shipwreck."


The IU team examined the shipwreck at the request of the Dominican Republic's Oficina Nacional De Patrimonio Cultural Subacuático.


"The site was initially discovered by a local prominent resident of Casa De Campo, who recognized the significance of the numerous cannons and requested the site be properly investigated," said ONPCS Technical Director Francis Soto. "So, I contacted IU."

I have gingerbread syrup... that would go well. A also bought pumpkin soap from Avon. At this rate by the time you all get up I could have some pretty good smelling stuff going on. Avon also has maple scented air fresher too... think I forgot that!

The New Clinical (or something like that) from Avon for the puffiness for the eyes above the eyes works well and the other 1/2 of the jar takes away the darkness under the eyes.

Usually I don't tell people about makeup for I haven't found many that work but this does. Even the men say I look different when I used it. ... well the one or two here in the complex; they think I am getting lots of rest and good health for my face looks younger (boy don't I have them fooled)

Have I forgotten our sweet Peaches?  I am not sure if I mentioned her, but bring her sunshine and happy days.  No, I don't think she's a real peach, but you know even if she is...she's the best peach around. Oh an don't forget our little Kimmy, she sits so quietly that she's easy to miss.  I don't think she's really that quiet, I think it's just a ploy to fool you. A surprise in her stocking too.

I saw Sharon today...I think she's one of those quiet types with a hidden temper...better not forget her this year.  Maybe you could bring her a chair she's always sitting so prim and proper.  An ergonomic one would be nice.  You will need a rather small one for her.


Please remember to bring Great Owl some meeces.  I think he just calls them that, but you know what they are.  I wonder if he puts salt and pepper on those things? Yuck!  And then there is Gunslinger...yes he's a real tough guy...with a big heart.  He needs another guitar.  I know he has a lot of them, but he's just like my DH...never too many musical instruments in the house. Maybe a 1959 Gibson Les Paul double cut Junior.  He will know what that is...trust me.

Desil fuel for my other trucks is at $3.56 a gal and I have  60 gal tanks .   Not much fun at fill up time

Jerry.. getting the freezing rain here now..  I am very happy to be off of work tomorrow. between this weather. and not knowing what to expect and being sick.  Glad I dont have to be there !    4 to 6 expected here Jerry..   I got new front tires on my care yesterday.. I ddint feel like it.. felt like death warmed over at Pep Boys.  Got a nice work bonus for the holiday.. got my car all fixed up..  called my boss and told told him TY..   :wink: Kinda stinks. new car.. and worn tired and front end alignment already ? A bit over 7,000 miles.  Pffttttt  Anyhow. said I can drive to work and home safe now.. even though I do not like to drive in the snow.. Im more afraid of other people on the road then myself.  lol
  Hope you and us PA folks dont get hit hard.. maybe it will pass us over?  One can hope !!

OMGosh Angie you must have something really wrong for your front end and the tires to go bad that quickly  with only 7000 miles on them .  are you checking into why that is ?? I am not much of a mechanic but i do diagnose real well and i sure would be on the dealers butt to explain that to me or to make sure that it doesn't happen again hun .

Jerry.. the man at  Pep Boys explained to me about my tires. Called it toe something? Won on the oustsides not the insides.  GM's fault he said. he said he had seen alot of GM vehicles with the same crap. Id like to take my car to where I bought it and flip out. But I still am not up to par here. Actually I just called my boss and told him I am not coming to work tomorow. I feel like crapola.
 We didnt get hit with the big storm last nigfht.. but it seems to be happening now. its snowing like crazy and the roads are covered. YUCK  :(

Lala's......Am I fired!!???   :smt114  I been really busy.  Daughter graduated from College Saturday.  Had a big shindig for her Sunday.  Approx. 50 people at the house.  Plus we had about 6" of snow to boot.  Oh my new floors!  :2doh:  lol  And yesterday one of our dear friends dad died, and this morning my daughters future step father-in-laws dad died.  They say that comes in 3's.  :shock:  So I've been busy cooking.  :cool:

I was driving by this house today and they had a red door.  I immediately thought about you.  It was so pretty. They had it all Christmasy looking with a lovely wreath in  gold and red.  Matched wonderfully.  Garland around the door and along the porch railing.  I said, I bet Louise' door is even prettier.

Anyone care to do the shopping and present wrapping for my eleven grandchildren?  Last year it was only 8 and now my kids are making me work hard this year.  I am getting too old for all this.  Santa abandons us old folks when we need him most!! :sad:

Wow  11 grandchildren!!  Here's a tip.  Several years ago it became too much of a burden for my motherinlaw to do all the shopping so each year after Thanksgiving she gives me some money to get each person their gifts.  So I pick up all the gifts and take them to her.   Everybody's happy that way.  And I always make sure that the "special" gifts come from her and grandpa.  You know.  The things they really want.  Have your kids do that.

Also I started buying pretty bags for presents.  I decided years ago that I wasn't goin to let the chore of wrapping presents ruin the Christmas spirit.  Also pretty decorated boxes. 

Amazon.com  (through the SM link) and most of the time there is free shipping offered, and gift wrap too...  after only have 6 neices and nephews, I have learned that it's the way to shop... plus I get to avoid all mall traffic and can shop at my leisure..

What is the best thing for a nasty cough???

Mrs. Red, you sound like you have what everyone else has been getting, including me.  Starts out like a nasty cold, congestion then you end up with a cough that is horrible especially at night.  I've tried just about everything and nothing has worked.  I did just get some Cepacol tablets today that sort of numb your throat so it feels better for a while. 

From what I've been told this virus lasts at least 3 weeks.  First week you are feeling really overall sick then after that the coughing.

You could try sipping on some Kahlua (sp) and see if that stops you from coughing temporarily.

Mrs. Red ~ Do you have any honey on hand?  Take a spoonful of that for your cough.  Or, you could have a cup of hot tea with lemon and honey.  I know some folks swear by Robitussin cough syrup.  As a bee, I would recommend the honey...

No, but thank you for the compliment.  My daughter, however, has that as one of her goals in life.  She's much better than I am when it comes to writing.  I would like to think she got her talent from me, but I know better.  All that she is came straight from God.

Mrs. Red - I've had it about 10 days now and today is my best day.  I'm feeling pretty good but still have that cough.  Everyone I've talked to says the cough stays with you for about 3 weeks or more.  It's a virus, so not much you can do except treat the symptoms, drink plenty of fluids and get plenty of rest (which is hard to do when you cough the minute you lay down).

Yes, please do take care.  Mrs Owl began coughing badly in late October.  I can't tell you how many different prescription and over the counter things she ended up taking.  One night she couldn't breath so we ended up at the emergency room where she could get nebulizer treatments.  She ended up having to get her own nebulizer.  Fortunately, our bed has dual controls to raise the head and foot of the bed.  She slept on the incline for 2 months.  That plus some other complications ended up in having her needing a PICC line placed and we were trained in how to give her IV anti-biotics every day.  At least she didn't need to stay in the hospital.  She just had the IV line taken out this week and now has a prescription for 60 days of anti-biotics.

She is well on the road to recovery and feels much better now.  So I repeat, please do take care.  This is a nasty strain.

Thank you Ms Red  your prayers are most welcome as all the other SM this is going to be a long tough trail I am afraid  in talking to the Dr yesterday I heard a lot more concern in his voice for her recovery  and rehabilitation  I just don't wish this type of responsibility on any one  but this is just tearing my young Jessica apart  she was definitely  NOT ready for this .

I ventured out to a movie tonight; GREAT MOVIE: "Charlie Wilson's War" with Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. But it was my first trip to the Mall since this started and I feel like I've hiked up a mountain. I'm cooking for Christmas because my son would understand, and he wouldn't say a word but be really disappointed if I didn't. He always brings a horde of friends to Christmas Dinner. I've decided I'm going to BUY desserts from a bakery instead of the homemade pie and cake, and I'm BUYING a spiral sliced ham. I can't afford it, but I'd never make it through all that cooking! I'll get through the Turkey and trimmings, and this year, I'm going to organize the troops to help me clean up!

I still have a bad cough, but the fever's been gone for several days. I've had two steriod shots and one of Rosefren, but as the steroids are wearing off, the cough seems worse. Oh well........I'm going to make a final push before I go to bed to try and finish the tree.

NYC, those pictures make me think of Windmill cookies that my grandmas gave us.  They were shaped like windmills and had sliced almonds on or in them.  Of course, I couldn't find those cookies today on a bet.  But some days I'd like to.

Since I am the only one awake, I am amusing myself with You Tube again.  First I watched the Hayes Boys doing the Too Fat Polka.  I love that song.  Somehow I wound up finding this clip.  Now I'm sure you big city types think there's some goofy stuff going on in Nebraska but from the looks of this, there's some pretty wacky stuff going on in New Jersey.

You poor Monkeys!! This is what Nicholas and I had!! Hope we didn't pass it on. We bought those, ok crap, can't remember the name because we bought the generic, mucinex maybe? It loosens things up so you have a more productive cough. It's over the counter, a bit pricey, but it helped.
My poor little guy, after 4 days off school, he went back. 2 days later they called me from school, he coughed so hard it made him throw up. Then he coughed so hard it came out the other end...lol...he was so embarrassed!!! Being the worse mother in the world I had to laugh on the way home. Hey...had to laugh..or I would have cried...I am the one who has to do the laundry!!!!

My reccommendation is one of my Momma's famous Hot Totties. Decaf tea, whiskey and honey...worked for me!! I slept like a baby!! lol

OOPS!  I hit submit before I was finished...too many things to do and so little time.  I just found out one of Santa's biggest secrets...you won't believe this...he flies around with white boomers for half of the trip.  That's a kangaroo. I was amazed when I heard it too...now I know.  He changes from kanagaroos to reindeer just as he enters the Northern Hemisphere.  That makes sense..it's kind of like refueling in flight.


Yes, I met BT yesterday.  It was great!  She's not a dwarf as she claims, but let's just say, I felt tall for a change..that was until Mishy got there and then I was short again.  We had a great time! 

Lala's! I can't believe you found out about the boomers!!!! I've known P. Bear at Santa's workshop for years, and that's a real trade secret! With all the satelites and missions they've sent into space, the boomers were Santa's answer to high tech. BTW, Santa's been sharing your letters with P. Bear and the Elves and they've been getting a real kick out of them. They said they'll be glad when it's time for Santa to actually get airborne, so that your letters won't cause anymore overtime!

Well, since you've let out confidential information, I'm going to as well. Santa really enjoys all the cookies left for him to help him get through the night, but I bet you didn't know that he takes the sugar cookies to the reindeer and boomer teams. They LOVE them! Santa's eats the chokky treats,(Mrs. Clause has been keeping an eye on his cholesterol, and he doesn't get as many desserts as he used to.) She's laughingly accused his beard of turning white because of all the snow he's rubbed in it to remove the tell tale signs of chokky!

They're doing their annual world weather checks right now. Rudolf always gets antsy this time of year. No decision yet whether he'll lead the team this year. Oh, they always let him go, but only use him as lead when there's bad weather. Donner keeps an eye on him because he's telling everyone that he's developed telepathic abilities and "feels" heavy fog through his antlers!!   :reindeer:  Donner doesn't give up the lead easily, and suggested that he could remove his problem.  :shock:

Well, I've got decoration boxes to put away, and find room for stuff in the refrigerator. IT'S CHRISTMAS EVE!!!!!

I can trace my mother's side of the family back to Denmark  and my dad's side back to Germany.  I'll have to check where in Denmark and Germany.

This photo of Klaasend reminds me of the photo Sharon sent me before we met at her nephew's wedding (which was also our friend's daughter's wedding LOL).  I had to find her in a crowd of people based on her hair style!! 

I, too, was thinking Klaas was a brunette...dark ringlets of curls....so wrong..haha.  I had long hair like that (crown & glory) and have at times wished I'd never experimented with various shorter styles & color.....  I miss putting it up, pulling it back.   At least I made the decision....Peaches, yours came with the treatments, I know... :smt052

Just wanted to wish all of you the most wonderful Christmas.  The last few days have been kind of tough for me as this is my first Christmas without my sister Joyce.  She was so funny and amazing.  But then I read this poem, and I couldn't help but let all the sadness go as I pictured her with mom & daddy sitting at Jesus feet.  How cool that must be.  And I'm sure Joyce is keeping everyone in stitches.

So I'm not going to be sad anymore.  I'm going to rejoice in the birth of our Savior, and know that someday there will be a family reunion that only Heaven can bring.  For if He had not come, and died for us so that we might have eternal life if only we ask, that would not be possible.  The greatest gift of all.

Merry Christmas Eve all!!

snoopy ~  I can't carry a tune in a bucket and neither can my sister.  I have a feeling when we go spend Christmas with Jesus, we'll be in the section that hums or plays the kazoo.  Perhaps Joyce will be there waiting to welcome those of us that aren't vocalists.  {{Hugs}} to you snoopy.  I'm sorry you and your sister aren't together this Christmas.  I feel so grateful that since I returned to the U.S. last year, I got closer to my older sister.  We are 18 mo. apart, and after we graduated from high school, we drifted away from one another, only seeing each other occasionally on holidays.  We now talk or email one another almost daily, just to chat about our kids or pets or her job or my house renovation. 

It's wonderful that you and your sister are back together Muffy.  Time is precious.  There was 15 years difference between Joyce and I.  18 years diff. between my brother and me.  I'm the youngest of 5.  That's weird. lol    And as far as Joyce having anything to do with music.......well let's just say an Eastern Gate greeter will be the best job for her.  lol.  Life is good.

OK, a real Christmas story to share with you guys. It just happened and I hope it will serve to remind everyone that love transcends the spaces between our loved ones and ourselves when they aren't with us.

I've been sick, cooking, shopping, etc. and in general not having a blast. Last night I cooked until 5:00am and my mind was constantly on my family that has passed on. I fixed Granny's stuffing and remembered Mom testing it with her finger. A wink and nod would confirm it was perfect. I walked through the hall to glance in the living room at the tree and my eye went from the white doves on top rescued from flowers sent to Dad's funeral, to the empty chair that was his whenever he was here. I pulled out the recipe book and followed Granny's handwriting to remind me how to make the asparagus casserole and was reminded it was my brother's favorite dish.

More than anything, I was painfully aware of how quiet it was. There was no chatter or banter around Christmas preparations. No familiar stories, no one but me and my memories and echoes that kept floating up as I worked.

When I layed down, I let it go and had my Christmas cry and woke up when John called to ask if I had a ring box for a gift for his neice. I found one in the bottom of my jewelry box and caught a tiny glimmer of gold in the slit. Probing for it, I pulled from deep within the fold a forgotten gold charm given to me many years ago by Mom and Dad along with a now full Gold Charm bracelet. On one side, in script, are my initials. In the same script on the other, is simply inscribed, "We Love You".

I know this was meant for me at this particular moment, and I know that the author of Love "re-gave" me this gift in His perfect timing. I had not been alone with my hurt and He knows and cares deeply about our heartaches.

You have me all teary eyed missing my Momma too. I loved the story of your grandmother's recipes in her own handwriting. My Mom died 14 years ago when she was 49 and I was 28. Not a day goes by I don't miss her. I still have her old recipe box too with all the recope cards in her handwriting. It is my most favorite treasure!! There is still old cookie dough cemented to the cards..lol..and sprinkles from long ago sugar cookies at the bottom.
One year for Christmas I photo copied them and bought these beautiful recipe books and put her recipes in the books and gave them to my brother and 3 sisters for Christmas. There were alot of tears that Christmas!! Happy tears and sad tears. Have a wonderful Christmas CBB. Thank you for sharing your story and brightening up the Monkey Cage with your wonderful avatars!!

I am sure that she is giggling at the Choir.... it's what those of us that can't sing do at church... especially when we try to sing.... Red and I get so tickled at each other... and our Church choir is amazing... so Joyce is singing her heart out and laughing with joy.... I bet on it!

CBB your story made me cry... but I know it was comforting to find the charms.

Funny story.... my brohter is married to a sweet woman who I really love, but she is funny about gifts etc, so he has learned to just give her gift cards...

she hasn't liked any of the gifts he gives her... (diamond earrings, a fur, etc  a new car... she doesn't like any of that... :roll: :roll:)  and way... him being a guy...

went and gave his wife a Lane Bryant gift card... and she is a size 6 at best.!!  I had to laugh because he could have called me and I would have told him a different store... but he was determined to find something she liked this year!!!!

Is anyone else watching the Nativity Story?  It's so awesome....

WOW! I'm HUMBLED by it! I don't even remember slipping it in there years ago, but God knew at the moment I did it that He would give it back to me when I needed to see, feel, and touch both my family and His concern for me. He reached out to me bearing a gift created just for me, by God himself, and He did it in just the way He knew I'd understand!

I can't very well miss that I'm a King's Kid and Daddy's never got His eye far from me! I don't even have to try to use the limitations of words to try to explain things to Him..........He just knows my heart's murmurings!

He's that way with His kids, as I expect you guys know. Isn't God great??!!

Hey!  Did you guys see all my presents?  I have new muffs...yes, Angie, apparently Santa thinks I need them. He brought me the super duper kind that are impermeable to scissors and fire...so don't get any ideas Yapp and they are also the kind that spring back into shape should any body's bony rear sit on them while I am not looking.   :cool:

I got a box full of pencils and paper...lots and lots of pencils all nice and sharp and just in case, Santa left me these special pens that write in ink that only I can see with my secret decoder ring...ha!  There is no stopping me now.   :lol:
