Title: Michelle Obama's Diamond Earrings

Michelle Obama's Diamond Earrings

Much has been made of the black and red Narcisco Rodriguez dress Michelle Obama wore when Barack Obama made his victory speech on election night but what about those sparklers in her ears? Vogue UK reports that the big dangling earrings are 18K white gold triple dangle earrings in pear, oval and marquee shapes covered with small diamonds. Fashion reporter Hitha Prabhakar prices them out at $10,275. Since Michelle Obama has said that the soon-to-be First Family buy everything they wear, we can only assume these were a special occasion splurge.

I voted via absentee ballot due to travel with work, but am only now checking my email account which was subscribed to Obama's site for the thousands of spam emails they cluttered my inbox with.

This one arrived on Nov 1st, so was this an attempt to ensure I personally financed Michelle's wardrobe for post the win???????????

Too bad the giant red DONATE button can't be cut and pasted here   ::MonkeyRoll::

*********************************************************************

Dear XXXX --

I know this campaign has asked a lot of you.

But in the next 5 days, Barack will need you more than ever before.

Together, we can make sure all voters head to the polls and make their voices heard in this election. And we can get Barack's message of change out to millions and millions of Americans in these final hours.

That's why I'm asking you to dig deep and make one final donation to help get us across the finish line.

Take a minute to remember why you joined this movement, then please make a donation of $5 or more today.

I've been blessed over the last 21 months to have been invited into your communities and to hear so many of your personal stories.

Supporters like you have told me about loved ones who can't afford health care, and relatives who've been laid off from jobs they've had for decades. About family members fighting bravely in Iraq, and worries about affording college in a struggling economy.

But what I've heard more than anything else is hope. A shared hope that if we work together, we can change politics and make this country better for all Americans.

I know that we can make it happen -- and we are so very close.

Make a donation of $5 or more and stand with Barack these last few days:

https://donate.barackobama.com/forbarack

The strength of this campaign has always come from the individual stories and hard work of millions of supporters like you.

Thank you for being part of this movement,

Michelle

Loree Rodkin, a Los Angeles-based designer of expensive jewelry, said she was surprised and pleased to see Obama wearing her earrings. Rodkin said the design retails for $10,275 a pair -- and were not a loan.

All that is left are the shoes.  Anyone got a picture of the shoes?   ::MonkeyLaugh::

In past administrations when times were hard, IIRC, the celebrations were modest to reflect the economy.

What will the Obama party be like?  Lavish?  Who pays for this?  Taxpayers?

Taxpayer is like a dirty word.  It seems to point to just the rich.  Not a fair burden of government expenses, but based on who some feel can afford it.  It's always easier to spend someone else's money.

Ancient wisdom - It doesn't matter how much you make that matters, it's what you save.  In the end, that's all you've got.

so what?

Mr. Obama made a tidy sum in royalties on his book.

Mr. Obama and mrs. Obama were married 15 years last year. Maybe he gave her those earrings as a present.

Also Mrs. Obama had a career and made her own money. She could have worked for that necklace and paid it out of her own pocket.

Fair questions in light of questioing $150,000 spent on new wardrobe for the vice-presidental candidate, Sarah Palin.

But we know that was paid by the campaign. There is no indication that mrs. Obama's necklace was paid for with campaign funds.

True.  Good to see you again.  Still following the Natalee case?

I would say that given the current economic crisis, many Americans do not have $10,000 or $150,000.  Those that pay taxes are not lilkely to get a bailout for $10,000 either.

that is an almost Marxist point of view there  ::MonkeyWink::

If you pay your taxes and have money left you should be able to buy what you want? Not?

Neither Michelle or Obama paid for the earrings. It was reported on MSM, along with her new haute couture designer from Chicago (Helen something- can't remember her name), that is producing custom designer dresses for Michelle. Those typically run around 5K minimum.

Amazing this all happened at the END of the campaign??? I guess those 'buys' that Michelle touted from Chico's, etc faded out as Obama's star rose?

Just a crock, a total crock. I'm not that stupid.

I believe it is a human point of view.   ::MonkeyWink::  ::MonkeyWink::

I expect that with the mantra "the rich can afford to pay more taxes" many will not have money left after paying taxes.

I do not see change coming with a $10,000 pair of earings.  I see more of the same.  The rich getting richer, the poor getting poorer.

The ones getting rich are now the special interest groups of Obama.

It isn't about fairness, it's about getting elected, taking and spreading around other peoples money, and the vast majority of Americans will be left with an increasing debt to be paid for by their children - debt bondage.

It's feeding an additction to entitlement programs.  No need to work and save, Obama will keep giving.  How is he going to pay for that?

Hmmm...taking 401ks, IRAs, and leaving congressional entitlement programs alone?  Maybe he could roll everyone into this high quality GRA program?

In the end, the homeless will still be on the streets, people will still be going hungry, and after 4 or perhaps 8 years the spending orgy will be over, one way or another.

However, the rich will have less to spread around, after being fleeced, I mean taxed, by the Obama generation.

just my humble opinions
