I still can't get over those pictures of Cindy hugging that guy.    Overall, today has been a trip.   Between that weirdo from the park who claims Manny did it, to the revelation of all the calls to the tip line by the meter reader in August, to the book laying in the woods and finding out Caylee was in her swimsuit.   Wow.  What an emotional day.   Did I mention that I'm on my third beer?   Whew, I needed it!

So Joy is the same person who made the weird statements about Manny?

Sassy~ You're right!  Its been one crazy day.  Just yesterday I was so happy with the way things were going.  Then BAM!!  No matter how you look at it, todays events put LE in question.  Understandably so, imo, considering all the leads that have come in with this case.  I'm sure the deputy will be scrutinized by LE and possibly let go.  But I have faith in God & know that those responsible for Caylees death will be brought to justice.

I still am left with the feeling that we will never know exactly what happened to the little baby.  With all these reports coming out, Casey and defense will surely jump on all the inconsistencies for reasonable doubt.  But there is no changing the evidence in this case.  Casey killed Caylee and LE will and has collected enough, imo, to convict her.

Today is probably a future glimpse of the rollercoaster we will all ride on until the verdict comes in.   ::MonkeyConfused::

The ex FBI guy on NG said he thinks the body was placed there recently, makes sense to me too.  One other thing on my mind; if the cops went into the house and got carpet samples & drywall samples, that's blood splatter right?  My goodness.

What is "recent" -- August? December? If her bones are indeed spread out over 1 acre -- I would guess they have been there longer. -JMO

It could be to check against evidence found at the scene.  There may have been some trace evidence carried from the house on maybe a blanket or some other item.

I don't know, it just doesn't make sense that she was only 15 houses away all this time, with all the searches they've done.  Especially when she's found in an area of personal interest to that bitch.

Friend of Monkeys mentioned something on the last thread that jogged my memory.  When Casey lied and told the police that she had spoken to Caylee, she said that Caylee just talked about stuff like "her shoes and her books".  This really makes me wonder if she was throwing out yet another piece of Zanny bait - so that when Caylee was found eventually, the book would be too and that would corroborate that part of her story.

I was thinking that too.  Didn't she say Caylee was reading her book to her on the phone.  Was weird at the time and weirder now.

I don't believe that anything can cancel out the evidence against KC so I am trying really hard to take this whole bizarre twist into stride. Isn't there supposed to be a time in these cases where things slow down until trial? It seems to be something new everyday!

I'm hearing on Hannity that the meter reader was first suspicious because of an odor in the area, not just because of the bag. That explains to me the tenacity of wanting the area searched. I think the defense is going to try to make a bigger deal of the three calls than it warrants.

A father in Seminole County, Fla., remains behind bars Tuesday on suspicion of child abuse, according to Local 6 News.

 
Police said John Wray punched his 4-year-old son in the stomach. He is also accused of tossing the child off a bed, giving the boy a black eye.

Wray allegedly told police he needs help controlling his anger, Local 6 News reported.

Sorry, folks, if this has already been addressed.  I started reading on the last thread and saw some interest in the books so I thought I'd add my two cents worth.  I didn't make it through all the new thread before I got sleepy.

The book Caylee was reading at the nursing home was Suppertime for Frieda Fuzzypaws by Cindy Szekeres
This is classified as an early learning picture book.

The book that mentions "Zanny the Nanny" is juvenile fiction for ages 9-12 and has 240 pages.
It is book one of a series by Kathryn Lasky entitled Double Trouble Squared.

 ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35, Orlando, AP) -- The meter reader who last week discovered the remains of a small child in woods near the house of missing toddler Caylee Anthony had called sheriff's deputies to the area on three consecutive days in August, a sheriff's spokesman said Thursday.

The meter reader isn't a suspect in the girl's disappearance but the sheriff's office was investigating what led him to call and how deputies responded in August, said Capt. Angelos Nieves, a spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

"There are a lot of questions about the thoroughness of that response," Nieves said.

On Aug. 13, the meter reader called the sheriff's office a third time. This time, the meter reader met a deputy and the area was cleared as a place of interest a short time later.

The remains found last week by the meter reader have not been positively identified. Because of their location and size authorities believe they are the missing toddler, who was 2 when she disappeared last summer.

Crime scene technicians on Thursday spent an eighth day at the crime scene sifting through dirt and scouring the woods. They have found "significant" skeletal remains in the same area where a child's skull was found last week, Nieves said.

The bones appear to be those of a small child, he said.

Hey Sharon -- I am leaving for work but saw your post.  As I understand, a developer owns this property and intends to build in this area.  There was a temporary fence put up for this purpose.  I read on Topix a few days ago, several of the neighbors in the immediate area did smell something for two months but assumed it was from all the rain sitting in that area.  The area smells when it fills up with water.  The neighbors never thought Casey would put the body here.

In the 3rd pic, there is a skull superimposed to the left of the actual skull.  Look carefully right at the point of the arrow.

At the point of the arrow, see the skull, look to where the mouth area is, you can see the tape around the mouth, going clear around the skull.  The tape is a dirty brown color.

  Well I've followed the links to websleuths and looked at all the pictures and read the comments.Geesh! I do not see a skull,eye sockets,or duct tape..I see something that does sort of kinda looks like a bag underneath the soil.Now if the meter reader says he kicked the bag,poked it with a stick,whatever,and the skull rolled out,I'm really confused.It would seem the bag would have to be on top of the soil completely for that to happen and to get a good swipe at it with his foot.Orbs leading them to the site,Caylee's spirit leading them,Caylee now an angel?My goodness the things people say....Caylee is not now an angel.We do not become angels when we die.Scripturally incorrect..All the angels were created long ago and only done so once.Caylee is not hovering around leading people to her body.She is at rest and has been since the moment of her death..Ugh...

Thanks PookyBear.  I'd still like to know the date that it was dry enough to put the fence up - even if it was temporary.  It just seems that if it was dry enough to tromple back there and put up some type of fence, it would have been dry enough for anyone with suspicions of that area to search..... even if some was still under water..... especially if people had been smelling things.  I'll keep watching and reading........ it just bugs me.

  Hate is a strong word Wyks, but I agree with you.  I hate Casey.  (I hate Joran.)  Looking at that picture......... looking at what was done to that precious little skull........ makes my heart hurt.  I cannot understand this mindset at all.  I will bbl, my eyes are leaking!

In the pic below, of the book, look right above it in the circled area.  What is that???  Is it part of the book?  If you turn your head to the left, does it look like a picture of a little girl and a female on a couch?

At WS they first drew the 2 arrows and were discussing both areas.  Some thought the skull was at the top arrow until they zoomed in closer on both areas and then saw it at the bottom arrow.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- The Orange County Sheriff's Office is expected to release the identity of the meter reader who discovered a child's remains in a wooded area near the Anthonys' home. Steve Triggs, Director of Communications for Orange County, said the meter reader had been a county employee for a relatively short time and would appear at a news conference Friday. Triggs said he is being represented by outside counsel at the County’s expense.

There are concerns surrounding the meter reader who found a child's remains believed to be Caylee Anthony. The Orange County Sheriff's Office said Thursday that the meter reader had been to the scene before and had called police about the area in August (map from location to Anthonys' home).

Investigators interviewed the meter reader at length about what he knows, but he is not considered a suspect in any way.

"He is not a suspect in this case," Captain Angelo Nieves said early Thursday evening. "He is a credible witness and we consider him so at the Orange County Sheriff's Office."

Since the first day of the investigation, George and Cindy Anthony have said every Crimeline tip about their missing granddaughter Caylee was important.

Their attorney Brad Conway told Eyewitness News over the phone that Thursday's developments were the reasons the Anthonys are standing by their daughter Casey.

Conway says there are a lot of unknown details in the case. He also has concerns about the meter reader who discovered the remains and the deputy who allegedly checked out the wooded area in August. The Anthonys have said repeatedly they weren't happy with the Orange County Sheriff's Office's investigation. They felt investigators were more focused on prosecuting Casey than looking for Caylee.

The sheriff's office said the meter reader had called in tips about the exact same area to Crimeline and the sheriff's office three times in August, two weeks before Tropical Storm Fay hit and flooded much of Central Florida, including the area where the remains were found last week.

The sheriff's office said it is focusing on its own deputies who came out on August 11 and 13 to inspect the scene. It's unknown what the area looked like on August 11, the first day the meter reader called and reported seeing a gray bag.

Sheriff’s officials said the man called Crimeline on August 12th. A detective checked records and determined the area already had been checked by a cadaver dog.

The sheriff's office is also investigating deputies who came out and cleared the scene on the 13th of August. The meter ready accompanied the deputies but nothing was found.

Officials aren't releasing the names of any of the deputies involved, but they are under administrative investigation.

Nieves said the meter reader went back last week because he had a nagging feeling that it was the place to look.

"He called on the 11th, the 12th and the 13th," Nieves said. "Currently, we are following up on that sequence."

WFTV legal analyst William Sheaffer said the developments would appear to benefit Casey Anthony’s defense attorneys. Eyewitness News Anchor Bob Opsahl spoke with Sheaffer about what he believes will be the defense's next move in the case. He says the defense is likely to pounce on new revelations that authorities didn't take the meter reader's concerns seriously.

"The cornerstone of defense is to attack. Up to this point, the investigators have not given the defense anything to sink their teeth into. This is absolutely like manna from heaven for the defense," he said.

Sheaffer also says the defense will be able to call into question the very foundations of the police investigation and the competency of the investigators in the case. However, Sheaffer says state prosecutors will fire back just as strongly about the mountain of evidence that they've gathered.

"The pros will point out all the good police work that's been done, all of the good investigative techniques that have been employed and they will shift the jury's attention back to the forensic evidence that will point to the defendant's guilt in this case," Sheaffer said.

"The defense has to regard this information as a godsend,” said Sheaffer. "The defense is ultimately going to make a lot of the fact the remains were discovered after numerous trips from the meter reader… This is probably a game-changer."


I don't understand why they would release the meter reader's name and not the deputies.

Same here in Detroit Sea Searcher! 1-2 inches per hour all morning long, maybe a total of 6 - 10 inches for today! Looks like a white Christmas after all!!  I have my pets all snuggled with me in front of the fire and no where to go today, life is good.

ORLANDO -- Orange County Sheriff's deputies said they have found "significant" skeletal remains in the same area where a child's skull was found Dec. 11.

Capt. Angelo Nieves said the bones also appeared to be those of a small child. The remains have not been identified.

The skull and earlier finds are undergoing DNA and other testing.

Deputies were reportedly called to this very scene in August after a tip from the same utility worker that found the remains.  The identity of that utility worker could be revealed Friday.

"The tipster meets with a deputy that responds to the scene on that afternoon,” Nieves said. “They go into the area of the woods. The area is pointed out to the deputy. Deputy goes ahead and conducts a follow-up regarding going into the wooded area. And once he returns to the caller, he advises that there's nothing there. The call is cleared. Just says that it was trash in the area."

The crime scene won't be released until Friday evening or Saturday.

Once they have released the scene, the sheriff's office will give a courtesy call to Jose Baez, Casey Anthony's attorney.

So far, he and his team have not been granted access to the crime scene.

News 13 also received a statement from Todd Black, the spokesman for Baez, that said:

"This is a perfect example of why the public and the media should not be pre-judging this case. And Casey Anthony should be given the presumption of innocence until all the facts and all the information is revealed. There's absolutely no doubt that law enforcement is continuing to withhold vital information, and it would probably be a good idea for the meter reader to retain an attorney."

I was thinking, why haven't they told us that this is Caylee? The Sheriff said that they would put a rush on it, you KNOW they have to know by now. Why not tell us? DNA, with all they have does not take this long!!!

I think they are postponing it to delay the defense, to ID all of the bone fragments and to give themselves more time to finish their grid search without any interference

So a big ole snake caused the the deputy who responded back in August to be derelict in his duty.  If it weren't for this meter reader, Caylee might never have been found.  Seems the officer and the Sheriff's department let this one get away back in August.

I was just looking at the crime scene pictures.  I am really disturbed by Kio's claim that she and KC went into this brush and hung out.  Just exactly what where they doing.  I have a preserve like this near my backyard and down our street.  Our homeowner's association frequently goes into there to clean it up .  There are different types of snakes and other animals in there that one should not encounter. 

I find the appearance of Caylee's book amazing..
I hope it was protected from the elements in a bag so they can get either DNA or fingerprints from it..
I believe that following thru on the meter guy's tip may prove to be a non issue as far as the prosecution, the defense will try to use it but they have been so inept at everything else it may not matter.

IIRC at the very beginning of this case, LE implied that there were 3 officers tied to this case that were let go;  Jesse Grund, Tony Rusciano and ???????????  Anyone know who the third one is?

The botanists and entomologists will prove that wrong.  I wouldn't worry much about the finding out that the meter reader first saw this back in August and it wasn't followed up well on.  It will not play in a jury when they hear about all the other evidence in this case, and all the forensics in the car.  People have been convicted on far far less.  There is no reasonable doubt beyond having to give some semblance of credibility to the wild stories that Casey came up with.  That just won't fly beyond a bit of doubt at best.  The means test is "reasonable doubt".  I don't see how you get to that.   I think if the body had been found outside the ping areas, that would be of concern but considering the fact that the body was found in their back yard is exactly what criminal profilers would have thought.  I think with what they already had to build a case for murder one, the body is a big help in dispelling the notion that she might still be alive.  That is likely reasonable doubt, but even without the body they thought they had enough.

Geraldo just said that the Orange County prosecutor needs to step aside because of these new developments with the meter reader.  He does not beleive the story.  ::MonkeyNoNo::

The evidence will not lie on this case.  If casey is guilty, the evidence on, in around the bag will tell that.  We need to trust in that. 

We believed that Caylee would never be found.  Yet....  she has been. 

Let's not lose hope now.  There have been plenty of strange reports through out this investigation.  Truth will be what sets us free.... And fortunately, not Casey.

I really believe that even if this bag was placed there, it is all directly points back to the A family.  I think we just need to have faith that the OCS knows what they are doing.  There is just too much attention being paid to this case.  They are letting it unfold.  I remember feeling this upset when she was bonded out the first and second time. 

I see it. I'm not sure there's really a skull there, but it certainly looks like one in this photo.  Wondering what it would mean if there are other human remains there. I don't really buy the "dead father" theory, or the idea that Casey killed Caylee's Dad, because I think there would be more evidence.

This case can't get much stranger. Is there going to start to be more live sightings again? Read on other board where someone made a comment about how odd it is that she was found will C&G were away, and that their house was "unoccupied" therefore infering that someone had an opportunity to get in their house and "plant" evidence.  ::MonkeyConfused::

I hope the fact this meter reader guy called these tips in back in Aug, doesn't end up hurting the case. Hopefully it turns out to be much ado about nothing!

That is a superimposed skull next to the real skull (hard to see, but duct taped around the mouth) so that you see where it is angled and positioned.

That book they found is likely the same book that Casey tried to claim Caylee read to her from ZG's house after ZG took her.  Remember the non-existent phone call that Casey said she got a month after Caylee was taken by the babysitter. 

This bodes well the prosecution because that phone call never existed and she buried the baby with things from the house like her book.

I know what you mean about not missing the snow much. I'm not crazy about it either-it's pretty while it's snowing but by the next day I wouldn't miss it if it all melted away!!
On the other hand, I couldn't live with those huge ugly bugs and spiders down there in Florida.

He is not a suspect; he is a hero for perseverance.  OCSO never followed up on what he found in August, because of a snake or being overwhelmed.  He found it again 4 months later and we should all thank our lucky stars he did.  I see close up pictures and barely make out anything.  Caylee, like Tim Miller said, was unfindable.  This guy found her in a bag in August, never touched the bag, but his calls got lost in the mix of zillions of calls. 

The entomologists and botanists will prove she has been there since June.  This whole thing concerning his tips called in during August strengthens the prosecution since the body was likely there back in August and most likely science will let us know that she has been there since the second half of June.  This ultimately will HURT the defense because they have been running around since September saying she was alive, blah blah blah blah...  She wasn't alive.  It tightens up the time line.

Me, too, QM.  I'm starting to wonder about a lot of things here.

Like, what if this WAS the bag LP expected to find in the river but someone moved it here and put that bag of toys in instead? Or what if the bag was placed there after the area was "cleared" by LE? What if several LE have known exactly where it was and what was in it, all this time, but didn't tell?

The one thing I'm not concerned about is who this meter reader guy is and how many times he called LE. If the DNA checks out, that's all that matters, IMO.

Did anyone see JB on Today show this am? I have only read pg 9 & 10 so I am sorry if this has already been mentioned. He was insinuating about the evidence like "if it is evidence."
Matt asked him who is paying the defense team. He is really tight lipped on that. I still say it is someone who doesn't want their name associated with this case but probably knows Casey(Benevides?).
Also when Matt asked about her demeanor with the news of a bones being found he didn't even answer because of privilege info. He sounded and acted like he had just got up. He wasn't jumping on the news of the meter guy having reported it in Aug as much as I thought he would. I guess he will save that for a news conference later today.

I do think with enough evidence to have filed the charges wtihout a body this only helps now that ithey have a body. I know they haven't formally ID but......Baez jumped on the court system within  short time of the announcement. He knows his client is repsonsible for her daughters death...whether accidental or premeditated. His actions have spoken more than words on her guilt. JMO

Let's hope DNA results are confirmed today. By the pictures on the scene I can see why they are taking so long to investigate that area. It isn't like a yard that has grown too much it is an area that never gets cleared out so they are dealing with alot of vegetation. I think JB is very unprofessional as a defense lawyer.

I think so too FB. First we have to know that this is definitely Caylee, then they can figure it all out. Too many strange things though, like LP saying don't be surprised if LE already has a body. Don't get me wrong, I know alot of what he says is WAY out there, but I know he does have some inside knowledge. I also don't think there is any kind of conspiracy by LE or the whole OCSO. As far as any individual LE, I don't know, I'll wait and see. I still have a lot of confidence in them, and that they are doing everything right. I just hope this meter reader thing doesn't keep snowballing, as it has already started!!

Just thinking if someone in the A's family knew the body was there, what's the possibility of them going after the fact, say many months later and putting evidence from the house near the bag (without touching or opening the bag). Probably could be either two reasons. 1. to make sure KC looked guilty, or 2. to make sure that it was obvious that some things were placed there recently therefore KC couldn't have done it because she's in prison. That could cast alot of doubt about the case and ultimately set her free. Almost sounds stupid reading it, but just a thought I had. The whole case is so strange already anyway, so nothing is too far fetched! As far as which A that might do that, could be any of the 3 not currently in prison. ANd the deputy who waved off the 2nd deputy did not go out in those palmettos.

When we were searching, I said  while we were standing in an area filled with palmetto patches....."someone could just throw a bag over the top of this bush, and it would simply dissapear behind and inside the palmetto bush  where noone would ever walk.  Those palmetto bushes have sharp thorns along the limbs, and snakes love to hide inside them. Wasps hide under the palmetto leaf... Just not a bush to mess with , unless you are truley covered with some thick cloths and boots...

I just can not get a view of this area where the bones were found, I want to see a big view looking into the area.....mio

This is bothering me, too. I mean, let's say there was a deputy covering something up for Casey....wouldn't he go back later and move the body to a location where it wouldn't be found....or did he assume that now that it's been checked, it was clear? This is too bizarre for me, and sadly, I am extremely concerned about the "If it doesn't fit, you must acquit" defense. I do not want Casey to get off on some strange technicality like unclear chain of custody or such.

Just thinking if someone in the A's family knew the body was there, what's the possibility of them going after the fact, say many months later and putting evidence from the house near the bag (without touching or opening the bag). Probably could be either two reasons. 1. to make sure KC looked guilty, or 2. to make sure that it was obvious that some things were placed there recently therefore KC couldn't have done it because she's in prison. That could cast alot of doubt about the case and ultimately set her free. Almost sounds stupid reading it, but just a thought I had. The whole case is so strange already anyway, so nothing is too far fetched! As far as which A that might do that, could be any of the 3 not currently in prison. How many other people have access to the inside of their house-a key? Besides Zanny that is!

Im with you on that. Also, the prosecution was adament that no pictures of the skull would be released so that they could end up on the net. I saw the same picture yesterday and there was no obvious skull. Maybe the person who was saying there was a skull in the picture got frustrated when no one could see it so they doctored it so they could be right..JMHO

That's another thing that bothers me...why is the duct tape completely around the head? If you want to silence the person you put the tape on their mouth NOT around the head. It was reported that the tape was OVER the hair. That bothers me A LOT!

Yesterday someone here said, a guy went to see casey in jail, the guy had ties with another guy who knows meter guy... I believe in the three degrees of connection, so if the meter guy read meters in caseys neighborhood, maybe she DID know him. MAybe guy from the jail visit  told him, he could get a reward, if he would just say he accidentally found Caylees body...

Remember, a few days ago, we all found out, that if we have a tip for le, we will not get a reward unless we phone the tip line first.  This meter guy called tip line first, not 911 in august 11th, 2 days after Caylees b day.. Remember Cindy telling casey, We have to get Caylee home by her third b day... so, things that make me go hmm...
It is a cruel world, when none of us can trust le, to really search for missing people.

I do think though, people will now HOLD their tips, as last nights ng people seemed out for blood on this meter guy.  If he did not have anything to do with Caylee, then imagine how he is feeling.. HE found what thousands were searching for, and everyone is suspecting him, me included. I feel this case has tainted me even more, when it comes to le. Especially with MY own dealings with them here, and Judith Osteen being missing, dec 16th, 2007..

Maybe...but considering how close the tip was to the home, it makes no sense they wouldn't prioritize it. Just my opinion. If LE dropped the ball on this (I pray they didn't) but if they did, on this case, so high profiled, it would be a serious problem for prosecution...I think.

Exactly Curious. Someone said earlier---please forgive me for not remembering who it was--but someone said in an earlier post about this being like a movie. That's true. It's insane! Trouble is, in a movie (usually) it all works out in the end. In real life, the burden of proof is on the prosecution. If they leave even a small hole of opportunity for the defense to create reasonable doubt (about anything, from the person who did it to the way it was done to proving if evidence was tampered with) this might not end so happily ever after for anyone but the Anthony's.

Have we seen the August tips from meter reader yet? IMO that will make a HUGE difference in how bad this looks for LE and for the prosecution.

I agree. It looks so sloppy considering where the tip was called in from. On the other hand, do we have ANY idea how many meaningless tips from well-meaning people they might have had to handle? The words of LP from Nancy Grace show on 12/9 still give me cause to wonder about the recent happenings. "But everybody knows when she died and -- the 30 days is not a secret anymore. And don`t be surprised -- don`t be surprised if Orange County or the FBI don`t drop it on us here that they`ve got the body somewhere." Two days later, while Baez is in court asking for a trial delay, meterman finds Caylee. Then we hear OSCO was given tips 3 times and cleared the area. I think the confirmation that it is Caylee is just a formality... they know it is, but are holding back for obvious reasons. I do find it odd that LP said what he did just a few days before this bag with the remains were found. And last night on NG he says something about someone telling this guy to go back and look again, and voila! the remains were found! If LP knew the body was there... why didn't HE or his team go look for it? Is he psychic? Why didn't NG let him explain, why did she cut him off?
I have no worries about the guy who found it, I just think whoever followed up on those tips back in Aug. didn't do a very good job of checking it out.

Well, that was some number of years ago. It's possible it's become overgrown since then. I grew up in South Louisiana, and there was a wooded area where my friends and I  played, and it used to be sorta kept-up (the underbrush kept cleared) by the owner. Since then, the owner passed away and someone purchased the acreage, and they live in another state. I visited there a few years back, and it was completely overgrown.

Good Morning, I for one want to hear from the meter reader during the press conference. I think along with him and the sheriff and whoever else speaks, this will all become clearer. It is a shame the meter reader is being crucified by the defense, but I expected that. Once the missing pieces of this latest mess comes together I hope LE can continue there job and not be sidetracked. I believe it was Sunny who said she is going to keep this simple, me too.

Meter Reader's Identity Expected To Be Revealed

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- The Orange County Sheriff's Office is expected Friday to release the identity of the meter reader who discovered a child's remains near the Anthonys' home. Steve Triggs, Director of Communications for Orange County, said the meter reader had been a county employee for a relatively short time and would appear at a news conference Friday. Triggs said the meter reader is being represented by outside counsel at the county's expense.

There are concerns surrounding the meter reader who found a child's remains believed to be Caylee Anthony. The Orange County Sheriff's Office said Thursday that the meter reader had been to the scene before and had called police about the area in August

Co-Worker: Snake Scared Off Deputy Checking Tip Near Caylee Home
More Skeletal Remains Discovered; Search Site Expands

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A co-worker of the man who last week discovered a skull and the remains of a child in a wooded area near the home of Caylee Anthony's grandparents said the deputy who checked on the man's first tips -- made in August -- was scared off by a large snake.

The utility worker, an Orange County water meter reader who has not been identified, first called in a tip to Crimeline on Aug. 11, saying he spotted a bag partially submerged on the side of Suburban Drive, near the area where human bones that investigators believe belong to Caylee, who was last seen in mid-June, were found.

Caylee lived with her mother, Casey Anthony, 22, who remains jailed on first-degree murder charges in her daughter's disappearance, at the home of George and Cindy Anthony, which is located less than a half-mile from the wooded area.

"The deputy responds out to the scene, takes a look at the area, monitors the area, surveils the area to see what's available here for them to find. (The deputy) does not find anything, and then cleared the call," Orange County sheriff's Capt. Angelo Nieves said.

The same utility worker then called in the same tip on Aug. 12. A detective received the information but did not respond to the area, Local 6 News reported.

"They had information at that time that a detective was handling it, that the area had been searched -- which the area had been searched previously by cadaver dogs we understand -- but exactly what area we are still trying to determine," Nieves said.

The meter reader called in the same tip for a third time on Aug. 13, and an Orange County sheriff's deputy went to the wooded area to search for the bag but encountered a large snake and turned back, clearing the scene a short time later, according to the co-worker.

"That's where we're trying to determine the thoroughness of the follow-up," Nieves said.

The worker then returned to the woods on Dec. 11 -- four months after placing his first tip -- and discovered the bag. He picked it up, and a child's skull rolled out. The worker called the dispatcher who he works with, and his boss placed a 911 call about the finding.

The following is text of part of the conversation the worker had with dispatch:

Meter reader: I'm in the wooded area down by the school. I need you, like, now. I just found a human skull.

Dispatch: OK. I talked to the sheriff's department. They got somebody coming down there. Do not do anything that could cause any attention whatsoever. Just stay right there and they'll meet with you.

Meter reader: Understood. 10-4.

The meter reader, who has been pulled from his job so he can avoid publicity, is not considered a suspect in the case, Nieves said.

Nieves also said more skeletal remains found on Thursday appeared to be those of a small child. The remains have not been identified -- the skull and earlier finds have been undergoing DNA and other testing.

Because of their location and size, authorities said they believe the remains are that of the missing toddler, who was 2 years old when she disappeared.

Nieves said accusations made by Casey Anthony's defense team that the search site is being held by authorities longer than necessary are not true. He cited the fact that more remains have been found as proof.

"This is a perfect example of why the public and media should not be prejudging the case," said Todd Black, a spokesman for Casey Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez. "I would imagine the meter reader should get an attorney before the sheriff's office accuses him of a crime."

CNN show host Nancy Grace, a former attorney who has been following the Caylee case closely, said the new information could lead to doubt in the minds of jurors if the case goes to trial.

"The remains were not there earlier when the area was cleared apparently by police and cadaver dogs, and therefore, the remains were put there while tot mom, Casey Anthony, was behind bars, ruling her out. That is an obvious argument," Grace told Local 6 News.

Teeth, More Bones Found

Meanwhile, teeth and more skeletal remains were found during a search of the woods on Wednesday, causing officials to expand the search area to more than a half-acre, Local 6 News reported.

FBI agents on Thursday continued to assist in the search at the site. Prosecutors visited the search site on Wednesday to ensure the quality of work being done by investigators.

"As we make additional discoveries on the scene here, they will continue to provide that information, properly label it, sort through it, make sure that it's returned to the medical examiner's office as well," Nieves said.

A team of scientists, including anthropologists, a forensic botanist and a forensic entomologist, have been researching insect and plant growth and climate changes in the area in an effort to pinpoint when the remains were left there.

Baez on Thursday filed a notice of intent to examine debris taken from the search site, requesting that the state preserve all of the dirt, trees, bushes and shrubs so the defense team can thoroughly sift through it.

According to the defense team, hair similar to Caylee's was found and was being analyzed to help identify the remains, Local 6 News reported.

A nearby makeshift memorial displaying stuffed animals, balloons, letters and flowers in honor of Caylee has more than tripled in size since Monday, Local 6 News reported.

I have always believed that the body was moved by someone other than KC. For me these developments only strengthen that belief.

Sunny, I don't think it's a hoax that a body (most likely Caylee's) has been found. I think people are questioning the meter reader calling in the tip so many times. Let us pray that he just frequents the area and kept calling it in because he kept seeing no one had checked it out, yet. However, even if that is the case, OSCO might be in some trouble for failing to follow-through on so many tips.

What?? What hoax? Come on now, before we all start jumping on the KC train and giving Cindy a run for her money, just stop and think. A lot of monkeys between last night and this morning have put out great information on how this might have happened. Just because the find of Caylee's body didn't happen how we all thought it would doesn't mean it's a hoax.

The meter reader sounds legit, the only thing he probably did wrong was to continue to look on company time. He said he had to pee, but he wanted to find out about that bag. Had to wait for months to go back to the area once it was dry. Why not before this? Life gets in the way, not everyone's life revolves around this case.

As for LE, the area where the body was found was such a jungle someone mentioned that you could have been a few feet from the body and not see it. They had to machete the area just to see the ground! If you don't live in that area, listen to the monkeys who do! The smell after a few weeks would dissipate. I'm sure there was a lot of garbage in the area too. YES, that's not good, but it really doesn't negate the fact KC killed her daughter. All by herself and tossed her off like garbage. JMO

Benevides is one of my guesses, but I keep coming back to why.  My other guess is Todd Black, who in his former days as Gil Cabot, had media connections -- movie deal.  Did he get a contract at the very beginning from Baez?  What about Larry Garrison, what kind of contract is he holding on to, if any?  My guess is Garrison has a contract for a book.  Is any of who is paying for what have anything to do with NeJame's departure?  Could any of people who have contracts be responsible for all the media attention this case is getting?  How did this case get to the media coverage point that it is?

Is it possible she used the tape to wrap a sheet or towel around the body and around the head and part of the tape stuck to the head and the sheet came loose but the tape stayed on??? I guess the big question is how much tape was there ...

I was just thinking about how insanely hard it would be to stay up-to-date on the board if every single post was responded to.  Talk about sensory overload!  I do think that someone made a great point the other day when they said that often when a post is not responded to or commented on, it is because many of us don't necessarily comment on each post that we agree with.   A post not being replied to definitely doesn't mean it's not being read.  Also, when a question is asked, many posters won't respond when they don't have an answer.

Since I'm anonymous, I will admit that I shoot snakes that get in my basement or garage. I even have a "snake gun" with ammo that will not tear up everything around the s.o.b.'s when I do them in. I live at the edge of a big wooded area and I HATE and am scared s***less of snakes. Unfortunately for me, if I get caught, I will get in BIG trouble. There are all sorts of environmental laws about killing snakes here, so I would not be surprised to learn that a Deputy could not kill a "big snake" so he could examine a trash bag on a tip.

I agree with you, and again after the press conference I think this will all make more sense.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Sources close to the investigation of a child's remains, found less than a half-mile from the Anthony home, told Eyewitness News that a major announcement is possible during a 2:00pm press conference. Orange County's Comminications Department is also expected to release the identity of the meter reader who discovered the child's remains.

Steve Triggs, Director of Communications for Orange County, said the meter reader has been a county employee for a relatively short time and would appear at the news conference. Triggs said the meter reader is being represented by outside counsel at the county's expense.

There are concerns surrounding the meter reader who found a child's remains believed to be Caylee Anthony. The Orange County Sheriff's Office said Thursday that the meter reader had been to the scene before and had called police about the area in August (map from location to Anthonys' home).

Investigators interviewed the meter reader at length about what he knows, but he is not considered a suspect in any way.

"He is not a suspect in this case," Captain Angelo Nieves said early Thursday evening. "He is a credible witness and we consider him so at the Orange County Sheriff's Office."

Since the first day of the investigation, George and Cindy Anthony have said every Crimeline tip about their missing granddaughter Caylee was important.

Their attorney Brad Conway told Eyewitness News over the phone (raw interview) that Thursday's developments were the reasons the Anthonys are standing by their daughter Casey

I sure didn't know that so that would make sense why he didn't shoot the snake.

I don't see how it could be a hoax. Tampering or planting evidence would surely mean prosecution. Maybe all the events should be taken at face value, even if there was a F-UP by someone in LE. The only thing unclear to me is if cadaver dogs were on that specific 1 acre. 

But he could call Animal Control, which has the ability to handle such things without killing them--especially in FL, where snakes are prominent.

She is right, tho. If they can somehow prove that the bag was put there after Casey was in jail, then it is going to be a big doubt for the jury, and OCSO better be doing some heavy damage control.

Amen HH, all the spinning on this story isn't going to matter one iota. Science is science and it will prove what happened to Caylee on the day of her death. LE has the best people looking at every angle and they will testify. KC is a monster and she will pay for what she did to Caylee. It's hard for us to believe she would wrap her head in duct tape b/c we could never do such a thing, but she did it. Whether it makes sense to us to do a small piece at the mouth or completely around the head doesn't matter. The tape went around the head, that's the fact that so far has been presented to us. Keep in mind this is the tip of the iceberg here!

Tim Miller himself said on Nancy Grace a while back that cadaver dogs have CLEARED areas where later bodies were found.

The tape:  I don't find it at all unusual that if someone put duct tape over Caylee's mouth, they didn't just cut a piece a little wider than her mouth and slap it on there. The most secure way to tape the mouth would be to bring the tape all the way around the head and stick it to itself on the back of the head. If you're on the verge of murdering someone, you aren't going to be worried about how you'll get that tape off the hair that you've covered. Makes sense to me...

It is a darn shame that no good deed goes unpunished.  This suspicion surrounding this poor meter reader is unbelievable but not unpredictable!!!!!!!!

He has not been victimized because he gave a damn, like all of us.  Too bad OC can't put him in the witness protection program because he is now going to be jobless ("he was searching instead of working"), unemployable (because he will be a POI till this trial is over in 20??), ridiculed and thrown under a bus and whatever else the Defense can imagine to discredit him.  His discovery has totally ruined their case.  Confirms the timeline of when this child's body was placed there, for one.


He is credible to me because...

He must be able to pass a background check because he is a "count employee".

The first call...he only wanted to tell them where the bag was..evidently the reward wasn't the motive and he didn't want his name out there.  He only wanted the child found.

Second day....passes by...bag still there.... thinks, well guess I need to call that other number ...crimeline.  Cops dismiss it because they see the call was "covered" yesterday...geez over 5000 tips...can they really have the manpower to send multiple responders over and over?

Third day.....decides well I guess I will have to show it to them...waits for officer.  (Maybe he shows the officer the bag, says I don't want to get involved....and leaves)  Officer gets spooked by snake and runs out....figures it isn't anything anyway.  Remember the Jeffery Dahmer case?  His last victim manages to get out in the street, totally disoriented and naked, screams for help.  Police come and poor kid (under age BTW) sounds like he is drunk..plus he spoke with a heavy accent..but Dahmer comes up and tells them the guy is his gay lover and is drunk...they let him take him away...and you know the rest of the story.

Am I disappointed, you betcha!!!!!!!  There would have been a lot more tissue and evidence 4 months ago.  But, I have to trust God in this.  Caylee was found in God's time... not mine.  That she was found at all, I am truly thankful.  I also trust that He will take if from here and there will be justice.

I don't think the meter reader is involved either. Poor guy was just in the wrong (or right) place at the wrong (or right) time.  Reports say he is now being represented by councel paid by the city. I don't think they would do that if he was a suspect. JMHO

As for Lee... don't get me started!

Yes, he could have called them and probably should have. And Animal Control might have shown up that day or the next depending on how many calls they had for alligators in somebody's yard, etc. at that particular time. Woulda, coulda, shoulda... He didn't and it was a humoungous mistake that might mess up the case. It, at the least, gives the defense who had NO defense day before yesterday, something to spin for a jury.

There are so many WHAT IF's and NO ONE or NOTHING is perfect (ie, cadaver dogs).  They could have easily missed it, plus w/ the hurricane..
My theory is that KC got SO lucky that her body was not found.  She was and IS so composed because she has so easily detatched herself..she literally BELIEVES that the nanny kidnapped her.

While he could be involved, I am not convinced at this point. What I am upset about is OSCO not following through on this before. A tip this close to the A's home should NOT have been ignored and should have been followed through thoroughly. In my opinion.

    I also would like to say that the area the body was found in is known as a bay area here in Florida, which means that it is sometimes swampy and sometimes dry and because of this, lots and lots a vegetation grows into this area and if you find something and leave it with the intentions of coming back to the exact spot in a few minuts, well unless you marked the way or are use to being in the woods,   you will find out that you are not sure where that spot is...Trust me I know about the woods....
  The fact of the matter is, you can walk right by something and not see it because of the darkness of the woods and all the briars and vines and bushes and palmettoes............I say it was just lucky the Meter Man walked up on the right place this time!!!!!!!!

Never been to Florida, but looking at those photos of the crime scene, I was terrified how dark and overgrown and creepy it was. It is hard to understand those woods are a hang out for teens to party, we use to hang out in the woods, but those woods were nothing like this.

HH  Agree with your post to a point.  If an officer fires his gun for any reason, he has to fill out a very long report.  This was a semi-residential area so if he did kill the snake by gun...it wouldn't go without someone reporting "shots fired" (in case he thought he could get out of writing the report and explaining himself).  Then the bleeding heart snake lovers would be picketing the OCSO.

thanks....I did say  it ....I was upset last night...I made a couple calls to attorney friends who knowing, what they know about the case (nothing more than we do) and how the LE works, gave me a feeling that the LE and the prosecution know what they are doing.   LE completely checked out the meter reader inside and out BEFORE releasing this information. Did someone drop the ball in August...probably, bounced it a bit....but I am convinced this is not the same bag the meter reader saw and not the EXACT place...the field yes, the exact spot, no...and we know that from the reports that he saw a grey bag on the side of the road....... We have to remember this area was underwater and has been a marsh until 10 days or so BEFORE the discovery. The story about the police officer and the snake is completely believable IMO. I believe the bag has been there all along...I think it was hidden under the brush and ground cover and floated out by the water. The 'trail' of bones...I believe this is a word someone in the media used and has been picked up... I think the bones have been scattered by the water and critters...not a trail left by some conspirator of casey's.  Casey DID it and IMO she did it alone. Have the A's and  Lee covered for her..Yes...but I don't think in the way we think...I think they believed her story and probably still do....do they know Caylee is dead...yes...do they believe Casey did it...NO....do they believe the kidnapped story...YES and NO...Cindy does and George knows in his heart the truth...that is the only way they can get out of bed each day. these are just my thoughts and feeling and goodess knows they have changed back and forth. Casey is not smart.....we KNOW that...she is crafty and sly....but not smart....as much as I love my brother I can't see myself helping him to cover up  my niece's death....I THINK/BELIEVE I would force him to go to the police and tell the truth....

I just personally do not think there is any excuse for not following-up on a tip so close to the A's home (snake or not) I think the area should NOT have been cleared until someone went back there. A snake isn't gonna stay there all day. Catch it, call somebody, SOMETHING. This definitely gives the defense a spin...one that does worry me. Call me nervous, maybe I am. But I am concerned about Baez trying to pull a Johnny Cochran. Because, I am keeping in mind that the way they tell jurors they must come to a conclusion also plays into the outcome. Not everything we know here might be allowed in court. While some stuff we don't know now might be. Just rambling.

hh, I agree with the thickness of the woods here in florida. and snakes are everywhere. I watched a 10 foot diamond back rattler eat a rabbit in my yard here ... I did not kill the snake, I only observed. WHen the snake was finished, he went away.

It looks VERY similar to the one in the video at the nursing home the day before Caylee went missing. Amy I can see KC doing that. Just tossing out as many reminders of her daughter as she could. If that area was that overgrown as it looks in the photos, I would imagine that it would provide some sort of "shelter" from the elements. Yes the area flooded, but as for the torrential rain and blazing sun it may have protected some of the evidence. Besides the fact that God works in mysterious ways!!!

The meter reader is a hero. He found a bag in August. He called 911, but nobody came to meet him. He called the tip line and they dismissed it. He called 911 again to have someone meet him, that officer saw a snake and cleared the scene.

He came back and did his own little search and found the bag again, right off the side of the road. Looking at the photos, I can see how Caylee was unfindable as Tim Miller put it. Thank God this guy had perseverance and persistence to what he thought was a real find.

He is a hero. OCSO was probably overwhelmed with tips and without this guy, Caylee would still be missing.

It helps the prosecution. This find will hurt the defense because they were taking a position of reasonable doubt that Caylee was even dead. Botanists and entomologists will confirm that the body has been there since the second half of June. This find, and the meter readers previous tips only help tighten the timeline as well.

Don't forget all the evidence that led them to bring charges against Casey in the first place, stuff we don't even know yet.  This is the proverbial nail in her coffin.

Good Morning AIM...appreciate you telling us about what's on the front page there.  Maybe that will help "quiet the noise" that the defense will be spitting out today.

Also, I think the reason why LE hasn't "updated" us as to what is being found is because they haven't tested the "stuff" to see if it ties back to this case (since this appears to be the neighborhood's dumping site and there is lots of trash).  If they tell us..oh a book has been found, and then can't be tied back, it isn't evidence and all hell would break loose "Well, what about that book?"

PS.  IMO that meter reader has probably already taken a lie detector test.  Look how quick they asked LP to take one.

I'm going to go out on a limb and disagree with almost everybody by saying that the meter reader is most likely a suspect who played some kind of a role in this.

Why do I think so? His identity has not yet been revealed for the past week "but will be today" after LE just went out on a limb and announced he called in three tips on the same location, LE is/has been reinterviewing him, Nieves mentioned that the OSCO was going back through all the tips they received from the public, the meter reader just became a county employee, and at the time he called in the other three tips the scene was cleared each time, and the snake story sounds like a major lame excuse. The meter reader knows something or was somehow involved. This does not mean I think Casey is innocent, but I do strongly believe this whole situation is more complex than "he was just a concerned citizen." He already has legal representation by a county attorney -- doesn't that mean a "public defender"?

I am so certain of this I am going to take the risk of getting slammed by everybody! I have to go now, but, of course, I will be back later to see how many people have slammed me! :-)

Also wanted to point out irregardless of who put her body there or when it was put there it would only prove an accomplice they can not forget the fact that decomposing smell and hair was found in casey's car and she never reported her missing and she lied and kept LE from being able to properly know where to begin lookin for her had she not lied they wouldnt have waisted time looking for zani and trying to find out the truth behind all her lies

I agree with you he obviously felt something of interest was there and I would just as persistant if I thought it might be her and I think your right Imagine all the calls coming real and fake it must ve been crazy but also he if really thought it might be and was sitting in the back of his head lets be realistic he had to also think If she ends up being there and I didnt report it I would kick myself cuz of the reward money who couldnt use a lil bonus right now
