Title: Upcoming mid-term elections
Post by: SunFreak2 on October 23, 2006, 06:38:11 PM
Tim Russert, political analyst for NBC, is about to orgasm over the news that Barack Obama might run for President in 2008.  Russert thinks that this news will help the Dems reclaim the House & Senate.

Geese, I don't see how.

Me thinks Tim Russert may be just a bit too optimistic.

right? what about HIlliary and Obama going against each other?  They split the ticket... so it will be more like Hilliary as  President...and Obama as VP.  This will polarize the right like nothing else could.

Time Magazine has Barack Obama on the cover this week with the caption "Why Barack Obama Could Be The Next President". I suggested this possibility a while back but someone asked if I knew he was a Muslim. I admit it scared the hell out of me at the time to imagine he could be in cahoots with Osama.

But I came back to my senses and know that just because Barack is a Muslim does not mean he is a radical Islamist. People were skeered to death that John Kennedy, the first Catholic President, would consult with the Vatican before making decisions. Wasn't true for Catholics and isn't true for Muslims. Nor for Jews. Religion isn't relevant. Jimmy Carter is a Baptist. So what.

Barack Obama is here to stay. He is about the same age as JFK. He is intelligent, charismatic, so EXTREMELY well spoken - a rock star. They don't come along every day. They are a breath of fresh air as opposed to the stodgy 60 something men in office who are out of touch. I'm pretty sure there are no skeletons in his closet that would ruin his career.

Hillary Clinton is the first woman in history who has an EXCELLENT chance of being the first female President, despite the fact that we know all about her skeletons - they are dismissed already. Not a rock star but an experienced genius of a woman. She is smarter than Bill, who was a Rhodes Scholar.

I don't know who would head the ticket but it would be a major step forward in history to have that kind of ticket.

I'd like to ask you Monkeys to tell me what Hillary/Barack could do to ruin the world any more than it already is. After all, Bush has recently met with his Generals to discuss the disaster in Iraq. They know they have to change something.

I'd like to read your opinions on possible nominees for the other party. I only know about McCain. Thanks for your input.

PS: I predict the Bush dynasty will continue some years hence with the rise of George Prescott Bush, the son of Jeb. He is fantastic. Another rock star.

Louise, can't answer your question on what would be different if Hillary and Obama got in.

I do think the Dems have really chosen the wrong tact to rally the troops by trying to be the 'holier than thou' group this time around.

I really do think the Dems are going overboard on something that traditionally is a republican stance.

I think the Dems new stance is gonna backfire on them.

I really think the Foley scandal was a tempest in a teapot and the locals in fla will deal with it's effects in their election.

Nationally I think the Dems preaching and accusations are actually gonna push more middle folks to the GOP in November. Holier than Thou just isn't a traditional Dems line.

Course my opinion on politics is worth about as much as a flip of a coin.

Louise,
I was the one that said Obama was a Muslim.  I think that it will make a difference in a way that other religions don't/haven't is because a lot of people feel that Muslims are always Muslims first and foremost... that the party will follow second.  That frightens people in a way that JFK being Catholic or Jimmy Carter being Baptist doesn't or wouldn't have, IMO.

Also, Barak is completely well spoken until he is speaking in front of black neighborhoods... if you heard the stump speech that he gave in inner-city Chicago, you would not even think this is the same man.  Why you may ask does this make a difference?  Well because, do you change how you speak to different people? I don't mean in levels or in terms of politeness... for example when I speak to clients, or I am speaking to someone at Church I wouldn't say WTF?  but I would to a friend... because it's a level of respect... I don't change my entire way of speaking...

I think there is going to be a lot of information that comes out because now he will be in the center stage and people will be digging high and low for every little detail of his life... and I will hold my futher thoughts until I know more.... I will be interested to see how it all shakes out...

Dear Mrs. Red,

Smile. I know you were the one who told me Obama was a Muslim. And we have discussed the fact that the radical Islamists want to get rid of everyone who is not a Muslim. Maybe his being a Muslim might protect us. It IS a new world now and maybe he is our political savior.

I try to keep an open mind. I understand what you mean about how people change the way they speak depending on who they are speaking to. I did not hear the stump speech he gave in inner city Chicago but I can imagine that Barack was a different person in that situation. Jackie Kennedy spoke French in Paris. JFK spoke German at the Berlin wall. GW speaks Spanish. Jeb married a Hispanic woman and voila - now we have George Prescott Bush who will be a future president if the world doesn't blow up first. And don't forget it's been said many times that Clinton was the first black president.

When I heard Obama was the son of a goat herder from Kenya and an American woman from Kansas, I got a certain picture in my mind of how he climbed up out of poverty and became the man he is. Now, I've heard the goat herder got a scholarship to an American university and rose above his humble roots.

I agree he will be intensely scrutinized as 2008 gets closer. I'm interested, too, to see what comes forth. I know they will try their best to discredit him.

With love.

George,

I need to pick your brain. I don't get exactly what you are saying. I've been known to be dense.

Regarding the Foley scandal, if some Monkeys on this board were upset that a Kansas high school let the students have control over the yearbook and write about teen pregnancies and include pics of piercings, then I think the pedophelia tendencies of Foley is not a mere tempest in a teapot. There is proof he asked teenage boys what they were wearing and said he would like to slide their shorts down their bodies and expose their you know whats.

Although I personally think the sexual lives of politicians are no one's business, I don't think Middle America is on my wavelength. America is overall Puritanical.

I am totally not being antagonistic, George, but I don't understand what you mean when you say the Democrats "have really chosen the wrong tact to rally the troops by trying to be the 'holier than thou' group this time around ... the Dems new stance is gonna backfire on them."

In your second to last paragraph, you say "Holier than Thou just isn't a traditional Dems line."  Please explain.  Is "Holier than Thou" a Republican line?

Do you mean the Democrats shouldn't say to the Republicans "You made a f-ing mess in Iraq, no WMD, your expectation that Iraqi's would throw rose petals on the soldier's feet was wrong, you went in with no exit strategy, thousands of our men have died, and it's not working, PERIOD, and you are now publicly saying there needs to be a change of course."

George, your opinions on politics are worth more than a million bucks to me.  I just need you to clarify.

AND ... thank you for explaining Darfur to me. I couldn't find that inside info anywhere else.

And I'd still like to know which squeaky clean candidates the Republicans have to offer up on the Presidential altar.

Actually Sharia law says everyone must be a muslim and that it's death to convert from muslim to any other religion and it's death for any other religious missionary to preach their religion in a muslim country.

Even after we liberated Afghanistan the remaining laws on the books still declared the above and were being enforced recently, only the convert was declared mentally ill (at the vociforus request of the U.S.) to prevent execution, and deported and some aide workers were also deported, after being charged with preaching religion, before they could be executed.

Now the above is in a socalled recently modernized muslim country.

Fraid I don't consider the muslim religion to be at all peaceful no matter who believes in it.

Yes, Foley was a bad gay guy, who is paying the price. It had nothing to do with political affiliation and therefor in politics is a tempest in a teapot.
The Dems are just lucky he wasn't a Dem.

Sorry I have a different opinion of the Irag war, it was necessary after Saddams continually trying to break the northern and southern 'No Fly' zones and supporting various terrorist groups like the paying the families of Palistinian martyrs for their actions and various other activities I think most folks were aware of.

Also no one on the planet can predict in advance how a war will turn out, it's kinda why wars get fought in the first place.

I think traditionally the GOP has been the party of 'Family Values' and Christian Conservatives and what I call the 'Holier Than Thou' crowd.

So Republicans have exclusive rights to family values and being holier than thou?

When the United States Corporation of America attacks another country, they should have a Plan B, just to be on the safe side. Instead they had the arrogance to think it was not necessary. We are dealing with complacent "Old America" politics as Rumsfeld might say.

In a way I think the GOP does have exclusive rights to family values and Holier Than Thou.

Heh, heh, now I don't particularly consider that those things are all that good,
just that the GOP traditionally uses them,

George,

It seems you and I are living in parallel worlds on different levels.

Family values are GOOD things. I have no clue why you don't particularly consider these things of value. Family values are very important, especially since the American family (mother, father and children) has broken down. Any family that is still together has values, whether they are Republicans or Dems.

And I don't how to accept your saying that Republicans have exclusive rights to family values. You write things but you are not able to elaborate or expound upon your reasons for saying the above.

Peace out.

Louise,

I think the simplist explanation I can come up with is that by definition the GOP espouses 'conservative' values and the Dems espouse 'liberal' values.

I've always been under the impression that 'family values' and 'holier than thou' were 'conservative' concepts.

LV,

A pox on both their houses. I too am very sick of all the negative ads.

It is really sad that normal people cannot run for office.

The machines have created such an environment that Independents (true independents) cannot compeat due to the money.

John Kerry's latest foot in mouth just made the mid terms even more interesting.

I think Harold Ford Jr was going to lose anyhow, but this comment finishes that race.

No Southern Dem or Independent is going to vote for a candidate that is really a proxy vote for a New England liberal.

Foley resigned.  What more could anybody want from him?  He broke no laws but Democrats have actually had sex with underaged boys and Gery Studds is one who was censured for doing so.  But being a Democrat, even though he actually did the deed, he did not resign but served six more terms in Congress!  This one sided demand for resignation has to stop.

And now there is scandal associated with OBAMA and kickbacks to those making contributions to his campaign.  So he is no longer squeaky clean and this is sure to be investigated.

Guess that just leaves Hillary.
