Gates-Chili student missing in South Carolina  
 

Imagine getting a call that your teen is out of town without your permission and missing. It’s the nightmare a Gates family is living.

Brittanee Drexel is 17 and a Gates-Chili High School junior. She went missing Saturday while on spring break in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Her mother is asking anyone with information to please call 911.

It has been an exhaustive 36 hours for Dawn Drexel. The Chili mom has been in Myrtle Beach searching for her daughter. She says her daughter came to Myrtle Beach for spring break without permission. Saturday night was the last time anyone heard from her.

“Her boyfriend and one of her good friends are down here looking for her right now along with me and her grandparents,” Dawn Drexel said.

We came here to Gates-Chili High School to talk to people who know Drexel. However, we were told no one from the administration would be available to speak with us on camera, and security officers went so far as to divert traffic away from our camera. The district did however, issue a statement.

Kaitlin Cafolla and Brittanee have been on the Churchville soccer team together for the past six years.

“She's always been really nice," Cafolla said. "She's been on our soccer team for six years. Our team is really distraught over the whole situation.”

Cafolla says she's shocked by Drexel's disappearance. She says Drexel was happy at soccer practice. She learned the teen was missing when the district sent a text message to students.

“It was a picture and it described her and said that she was lost in Myrtle Beach and I didn't believe it at first cause she's always been here," Cafolla said.

Dawn Drexel is holding out hope her daughter is okay and will still be here.

“Brittanee please call mom or call dad. We love you and we want you to come home,” she pleaded.

There is new information in the case of a missing Gates-Chili student. The Monroe County Sheriff's office is now helping in the search.

Seventeen-year old Brittanee Drexel was on spring break in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She was last seen Saturday night.

The sheriff's office is talking with people who were in contact with Drexel and have now returned to Rochester.

Dawn Drexel was handing out flyers in Myrtle Beach, hoping to find someone who knows something about her daughter. “Either someone has picked her up or she's not alive. In my heart of hearts that's how I feel because I know it's not like my daughter to do this.”

Myrtle Beach police still searching for N.Y. girl

Myrtle Beach police are searching for a 17-year-old missing girl from New York, who traveled to Myrtle Beach with friends then disappeared sometime Saturday.

As of Monday night, police had no answers to where Brittanee Marie Drexel of Rochester, N.Y., might be, but said the friends she traveled with from New York already have returned.

Drexel was last seen Saturday after she left her traveling companions to visit other people at another hotel. Drexel never returned, police said.

A friend at Camp Lejune, N.C., reported her missing around 5 a.m. Sunday after learning she had not been seen, police said.

Drexel met a friend from New York and three men Friday at Club Kryptonite, according to a police report. She briefly met them again around midday Saturday on the beach, and again around 8 p.m. that night, police said.

The men said she left them to return to her traveling companions, who had a room at the Bar Harbour Hotel. Police said she never reached the hotel.

Police said Drexel, who is described as 5 feet tall, 103 pounds, suffers from depression. She was last seen wearing black shorts, flip-flops and a multicolored striped shirt. She is white, has shoulder-length brown hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with information should contact the Myrtle Beach police department at 918-1300.

The mother of a Gates Chili student who has gone missing on spring break says she has a “gut feeling” her daughter isn’t safe.

Dawn Drexel is the mother of 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel, a junior at Gates Chili.

“Something’s wrong,” said Dawn, in an interview with the CBS affiliate in Myrtle Beach, WBTW.   “It’s not like my daughter to not call.”

Brittanee left for Myrtle Beach on Wednesday without her mom’s permission.  The teen has been missing since Saturday.  She was last seen by a group of friends around 8 p.m.

Dawn says she’s very worried.

“She would not have left without her clothes,” said Dawn, who said she and Brittanee were not arguing about her decision to go without telling her.

Drexel is described as 5′, weighing approximately 103 pounds. Drexel reportedly suffers from depression. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Myrtle Beach Police Department at (843) 918-1382.

(Webster, N.Y./Myrtle Beach) - A young man from Webster has been questioned in the disappearance of a Chili teen in Myrtle Beach.

Police say Peter Broswick is considered a person of interest in the case.

Broswick has retained a local attorney and is not speaking.

Broswick was the last known person to see Brittanee Drexel Saturday night.

She went to Myrtle Beach with friends without her mother's permission.

13WHAM’s Sean Carroll spoke with Brittanee’s mother, Dawn Drexel, in Myrtle Beach and she has a message for Broswick: “Peter, we need to know what's going on."

“Brittanee is very special to us. We need to know what is going on. We need to know why the authorities weren't called. We need answers and we're not getting them,” Dawn Drexel said.

Drexel’s mother said about 13 people from the area are in Myrtle Beach putting up fliers and looking for her.

The Myrtle Beach P.D. has interviewed friends and others involved in the case in their continuing investigation. They said they’ve “attempted to gather every possible piece of evidence…video, cell…or other related evidence” in the case.

And people at Ocean Front see her on Sunday having lunch according to HLN earlier. Is this an accurate report?

If so, she was not missing til Sunday afternoon or Sunday nite. (If accurate).

Again - Lawyering up in one or two days doesn't look good.

I have to think that the account from Headline News about a Sunday lunch time sighting was incorrect if her clothes were found at Broswitz's hotel room.

Possible that the people at the Ocean Front Bar and Grill have mistaken Brittanee for someone else.

I think the police are correct to look at Broswitz as a POI. And here's the kicker. If Broswitz is NOT from the area how would he have knowledge of how to hide a body so well that no one has stumbled over her remains by now.

This would be akin to the Mountain Brook kids having knowledge and the lay of the land and able to hide Natalee so well that she couldn't be found in 3 days.

With the immediate departure and the fact that Brittanee has not been found I think it's possible that Broswitz MAY have placed Brittanee in his car and she is not in Myrtle Beach. Just a possibility and not a known fact. Just making the point.

I imagine his car will be impounded today if it wasn't last night.

Computer and cell records should soon be available to the police by court order. I can't see him escaping a serious interrogation beyond today.

Webster man questioned in case of missing Chili teen

Police are now questioning a Webster man in the disappearance of a Chili teen, missing in Myrtle Beach.

Police are questioning 20-year-old Peter Brozowitz. He lives with his parents in Webster. CNN is reporting that he checked out of his hotel around 2 a.m. the night Brittanee Drexel went missing.

Brozowitz was in Myrtle Beach this past weekend with his [/b]friends Phillip Watson, Matthew Abrams and Keith Cummings, all from Rochester[/b]. Drexel, 17, a junior at Gates-Chili High School, was in Myrtle Beach without her mother’s permission.

According to Brozowitz’s attorney, John Parrinello, Brozowitz met Drexel at a party last Saturday and was later at his hotel room with his friends. Parrinello says Drexel left his client’s room to return to her girlfriends’ hotel but hasn’t been heard from since.

Brittanee’s mother, Dawn Drexel, has traveled from Chili to Myrtle Beach to hand out flyers in hopes that someone has seen her daughter.

“Either someone has picked her up or she's not alive,” Dawn Drexel said. “In my heart of hearts that's how I feel because I know it's not like my daughter to do this.”

As for Brozowitz, Parrinello says he is fully cooperating with police in Myrtle Beach and with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, which is now helping on this case. He says Brozowitz is worried about Brittanee and hired an attorney because he has been inundated with calls from the media.

"It is certainly unfair to him if anybody implies or suspects him of having done anything wrong with respect to Brittanee,” Parrinello said.

I readily admit I was no angel at 20 years old. But even so - I never checked out of a hotel room at 2 am (and by "check out" - I mean the proper way - returning the keys and settling any bill). Young Mr. Broswitz appears to have just split.

anyhooooo....this kid did lawyer up really fast...in fact as of NG's show last night he had already obtained a lawyer...why? how did he hear about Brittanee missing so soon after getting home if he hardly knew the girl? would he have even given her a second thought once home? I heard about it the first time on NG's show and I have the news on all day when I am home usually...
another thing the mom said on NG that she and her husband were going through a divorce and that Brittanee was depressed about it...It didn't mention that the dad was down there searching for B...any news of that?
I think that you could be right Rob that this kid took B in the car with him and dumped her somewhere else if she did pass...I am holding out hope that she is ok...doesn't look good though..

The mom bothered me just a tad....can't explain it, but she did...her hair and makeup done up....not a hair out of place.......no nanners please...just sayin that she bothered me...too calm...too something.....

I kinda understand what you're saying about Mrs. Drexel. But, if she looks disheveled the haters immediately take that as a sign that she's an alcoholic or has some medical condition that CAUSED Brittanee to runaway. Kids unfortunately do split to the beach and don't tell their parents. It's easy to say that so and so is staying at some friend's house for the weekend or three days and the friend tells her parents the exact opposite. It appears that the kids are accounted for, when infact no one knows where they are. I guess this is as old as drinking at the beach. It's not right, but kids do it all the time and the way it sounded to me - Mrs. Drexel thought Brittanee was nearby and not in South Carolina. Parents fall prey to the ole switcharoo all the time.

Dawn Drexel's use of the word "tooken" bugged me~not the first time she used it because I attributed it to nerves and misspeaking her words, but when she used it again ugh.... someone please tell her the word is taken....
her calm demeanor made me think that she may feel this could be a stunt on her daughters part... let's hope the kid is attention seeking and not a victim of foul play.

Maybe this will give kids a wake up call that it is not wise to do! doubt it though...at that age, we all thought that nothing like that could happen to us...sigh....so sad for B and her family....

Thanks for that update but we know from all the false sightings in missing persons cases not to get our hopes up until it is confirmed. I wonder if the person had a cell phone and got a photo?  Probably not as it does not mention it.

And grammar would be the last thing on my mind if my child was missing.

Agree, the 2 a.m. checkout is very odd.  Most kids will stay until closer to the required check out time.  He would have only had two hours on the day and yet be billed for the entire day so that is very fishy.

I  hope that car is in custody even as we speak.  But think of all the miles and miles he would have had for disposal. 

Did he drive home alone or were all those other friends of his in the car as well?

Right Anna!! How many sightings were there of Caylee Anthony - granted many 2-3 years olds look alike. No sightings of Haleigh Cummings though - atleats not any that appear to be credible. And of course there is the Amy Bradley look-a-like at the brothel (although I'm sure that was not Amy and another woman altogether, the Bradleys aren't so convinced though) and of course all the Natalee sightings, but that was plain malicious.

I really hope this is her, but I'm not thinking that someone checks out at 2 am and nothing happened.

Yes, "something" happened for why would he not have checked out just two hours earlier and saved a whole day's charges?  He could have kept his luggage in his car if that was a problem, etc.

Investigators track missing teen back to Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH – Investigators are actively searching for a missing New York teenager who was reported to have been on a bus into Myrtle Beach from Williamsburg County this morning, officials said.

Brittanee Marie Drexel, 17, of Rochester, NY was last seen around 8 p.m. Saturday.

Several witnesses reported riding on the bus with her, Myrtle Beach Police Department Capt. David Knipes said.

Investigators also tracked her cell phone as it traveled out of Georgetown, Knipes added.

Witness said she was wearing pink hoodie jacket with MB on front left chest with a blue shirt under it and light colored jeans.

This morning’s search includes police officers and lifeguards, officials said.

The search comes as family members from upstate New York arrived at the beach to help in the search.

The mother of a missing New York state high school student has hit the streets with friends and family to find out any information that could lead to the safe return of her daughter.

Drexler’s mother, Dawn Drexler, along with other family members and friends spent several hours Tuesday handing out and posting flyers of the missing teen along Ocean Boulevard.


They went to businesses along the Boulevard looking for anyone who might have seen Brittanee Drexler inside their businesses.

The group received several leads and are working with Myrtle Beach Police Department detectives in trying to track her down.

One of those leads came from wait staff at the Oceanfront Bar and Grill, who said she was there on Sunday about 3 p.m., which would be the last known sighting of the teen.

Police are also looking for surveillance video to try to piece together where she went Saturday night.

Dawn Drexel says Brittanee is a junior at Gates Chili High School in Rochester, and was in Myrtle Beach with a group of older friends. Dawn Drexel says her daughter did not have her permission to travel to Myrtle Beach.

“I last talked to her Saturday around two o’clock. Her boyfriend spoke to her around eight o’clock,“ Drexel said.

“She sent a text message to one of her friends around 9:15 p.m. and said she was going to see another friend who was staying at another hotel. She never came back,“ Drexel said. “It’s been almost 48 hours, and I’m really worried. We need everyone to be looking out for her.“

John Hahn a friend of Drexel’s family and a Marine stationed at Camp LeJeune, NC, contacted police on the family’s behalf to report her missing. Hanh drove down to Myrtle Beach to help Dawn Drexel and her parents look for the missing teen.

“I’ve been friends with Britannee for a really really long time, we are very close friends. I’m trying to pray for the best but prepare for the worst,“ said Hahn.

Hahn and Drexel both tell News 13 that it is very unlike Brittanee to not keep in contact with family or friends. Drexel added that she has a bad feeling about what may have happened to her daughter.

“It’s horrible because all I can think about is that someone could’ve taken her, someone could’ve taken her out of state she could be laying dead somewhere. She is my first born and it’s just tearing me up inside, I’m just very very upset,“ said Drexel.

“I know for a fact that she wouldn’t just pack up and leave, leaving all of her belongings behind and not calling anybody,“ said Hahn.

According to the report, Drexel was staying with a group of friends at the Bar Harbor Hotel, 1010 N. Ocean Blvd. Since her disappearance, the group moved to the Boardwalk Hotel, located at 2301 N. Ocean Blvd.

Authorities handed out printed flyers of Brittanee’s picture to the beach’s watch patrol. Crews there said they are pretty heavily staffed at this time of the year, which makes it easy to do a search of any missing persons.

“With the water being as cold as it is and temperatures dropping at night it’s you know it’s very unlikely that she went for a swim or anything of that nature. We haven’t had any leads or any luck, we’ve been going up to different patrons doing pretty much everything that we can do out here to make sure she is not out on the beach or if she is we would definitely have found her by now,“said beach manager Wesley Cox.

“With the water being as cold as it is and temperatures dropping at night, it’s very unlikely that she went for a swim or anything of that nature.

Drexel is described as 5-feet tall, weighing 103 pounds. She has brown, shoulder-length, straight hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a multi-colored striped shirt, black shorts, and flip-flop sandals. She reportedly suffers from depression.

Police entered Drexel’s description into the National Crime Information Center database on Sunday.

Anyone with information on Drexel’s disappearance or whereabouts should contact the Myrtle Beach Police Department at (843) 918-1382.

Where could she go that she wouldn't be recognized?  I assume any credit card activity would be monitored and she would not be carrying large sums of cash.

maybe if this is her - she was assaulted by the people in THAT hotel room (explains how her clothes are allegedly there) and she was so distraught she left?

I would call the police, but she's young and her mother didn't know where she was.

I'm still holding out hope this is her.

Makes sense, Rob.  And that young, she might be thinking it's her own fault for being where she wasn't supposed to be.  That does not give anybody the right to do anything to anybody but her own guilt at sneaking to the beach is likely heavy on her mind.

Surely by now, she has seen some of the fliers and knows that everybody knows she was at the beach and she will go to the police herself if she is able to do so.

does the mother recognize the description of the clothing as something that B had? the hoodie description sounded very exact....

I expect some Breaking News on this at any time, one way or the other.

But then, I have been wrong many times about that.  Just seems something has to give with this alleged sighting.  Also hope that car is already being searched just in case.

I guess it would be rather easy to find out if Brittanee owns a pink hoodie. Asking her mother would of course be the forst and lost logical step. I doubt any of the four boys own a pink hoodie.

Many have spoken well of the POI.  A news link was provided that released 1 of the girls' name (20 year old Jen Oberer)that traveled with Brit and at least 1 local said this girl was "bad news" (my wording).

ok she had to return shorts she text this girl at 8:45 but she was not concerned about the short if true until 2 or 2:30am..
so over 5 hours no one heard back from her or they did not bother to call her and ask her if she was ok since she was suppose to return to their hotel.

1st - it looks like from her 55 photos she uploaded AFTER she got back from a beach trip with a girl who is NOW MISSING.....and she says she didnt spend time with her is a LIAR. I am just catching up on this case, but I see a lot of looking at the boys she was last seen with, suposedly.  Not to sound cold, but I think they need to look into her girl friends as well.  Jealousy can be a deadly weapon, especially if Brittanee was hanging out with another girls crush. 

My mom has a winter home in Surfside Beach (you can see it on Klaasend's map).  During the winter she often calls home to check with me and almost always part of the conversation is the latest violent crime happening there and in the outlying areas of Horry County.  Also, Georgetown is not a tourist area.  There is not much to do and no reason to go there.  So if she is heading back to MB from Georgetown, what made her go there in the first place?  Just my two cents. Lovinlife

Someone on the bus this morning called police to say that a young woman, believed to be Drexel, exited the bus near the Bar Harbor Motel in Myrtle Beach about 8:35 a.m. today, he said. A few more people confirmed the possible sighting.

Knipes today said the bus on which it was believed Drexel traveled is one that transports hotel workers to Myrtle Beach. The two communities are about 40 miles apart.

Family and friends raise money to help find missing Chili teen

From Myrtle Beach to Rochester, family and friends of a missing Chili teenager refuse to give up. They plead for Brittanee Drexel’s safe return.     

"We just want you safe, and we want you home," cried close friend Casey Capo. "You're not in trouble. Nobody's going to be angry. We just want you to be ok."
   
Drexel, who went to South Carolina on spring break, hasn’t been seen since Saturday night.

But there is a glimmer of hope in the case. Police in Myrtle Beach are investigating a new lead. Passengers on a transit bus from Georgetown, South Carolina to Myrtle Beach Wednesday morning, reported seeing some one who matched her description get off the bus on Ocean Boulevard, so far the search has turned up nothing.

Family and friends of the Gates-Chili junior, who are in Rochester, are doing what they can to help. Right now that means raising money.
   
"Excuse me sir, would you like to donate money to help find Brittanee Drexel?" asked Capo of Brockport.
   
Capo won't stop until her friend is home. She organized Wednesday's fundraiser at the Wal-Mart in Gates.
   
"We're trying to send money down to the family so it's one less thing to worry about," Capo said.
   
"This is family and support helping out," said Brittanee's dad Chad Drexel. "Anything we can do to get Brittanee back home."
   
Drexel stayed in Rochester to take care of Brittanee's siblings while her mom is down in Myrtle Beach searching.
   
“I'm a person that doesn't give up," said Drexel. "Until it's determined, I don't give up."
   
Neither is Capo. She believes Brittanee is out there and maybe afraid to come home.
   
"Brit come home," she pleaded. "We all miss you. We all love you. We all care about you."
   
Brittanee's grandmother Linda Wolpert also came out to the fundraiser.
   
"It's very hard for all of us," said Wolpert. "I don't think Brittanee would ever forget her family. I don't. It's just not Brittanee."
   
For her friends the fundraiser is a way to cope. It's also a way for the community to come together. Karen Salem of Chili donated her dollars. Her daughter goes to school with Brittanee's younger sister.
   
"If we can't physically be there maybe our money and prayers can help together," said Salem. "This is every parent's worst nightmare."
   
And this father is determined to bring Brittanee back.
   
"It's my daughter," said Drexel. "It's my little girl."
   
"She's out there," added Capo. "She needs to be found. We all want her home. We all want her to be safe."
     
Wednesday night they raised more than $1,303.97. All that money will be wired to Myrtle Beach on Thursday to help out with expenses down there.

Family and friends will continue to raise funds until Brittanee comes home. They plan to be back out at the Gates Wal-Mart from 5:30 to dark Thursday night and the same time next week Monday through Thursday.

Also, they show 2 different hair colors on Brittanee...was she blonde or brunette when she disappeared?
hope that they find her....this has really been a long time though without any contact with even friends...however, that can happen...she may be feeling like she is going to be in big trouble and it was said by her mom that she has been depressed lately because her parents are divorcing....maybe she wanted some time to work things out in her mind? hope that she is ok....she seems like she is a really sweet good kid!

Agree Cookie.   Maybe she didn't want to go home.   If mom and dad are divorcing, and mom is out partying now - and B has to babysit all the time, then maybe she just decided to split and have fun.    Her mom did say that she is the oldest of her children.   Did she ever say how many other children were in the household?   Her mom looks like a partyer to me.  just sayin....    I sure hope no foul play is involved.

could be....since she is the eldest, she may get stuck staying with the younger kids...even when or if mom is working....Not sure how many kids are in the house...B probably has a lot more responsibility than she had before the split? dunno...
Maybe this will bring her parents back together or at least make them closer....It is rough for kids nowadays to go through parents divorcing, all the peer pressure etc...

Myrtle Beach Police: Girl seen on bus not missing Chili teen

olice in Myrtle Beach have confirmed to News 10NBC that the young woman spotted on a bus in Myrtle Beach yesterday is not Britanee Drexel. The 17-year-old has been missing since Saturday night when she was last seen on the beach around 8 p.m.

Passengers on a bus reported to police seeing a young woman who matched Drexel's description. Police tracked that person down and it is not Britanee Drexel who is a junior at Gates-Chili.

I'm back to - WHY IN THE HECK WOULD SOMEONE LEAVE 2 AM, LEAVE A $100 ROOM DEPOSIT AND HIGH-TAIL IT BACK 17 HOURS if he had nothing to do with Brittanee's disappearance?

Well, here it is again.

Another missing person case on day 5 and still not completely being investigated as a possible homicide.

There are very few reports and I have seen nothing about any cars being confiscated.

Very odd behavior I must agree Rob.  He could have left a couple of hours earlier and saved a whole day's charges.

I do hope they have his car in custody as well.

times awasting! they need to get going on the car thing especially and this kid who left the hotel at that hour....something is not right ...we all know it...

REMINDER:  Be careful judging people by how they look.  This is the mother of a missing young lady.  Personally, I find it hard to believe she's riding the bus back and forth and not letting anyone know she's OK.  I don't think she is OK.

And once again, it's another tourist destination.  Would the MBPD be the ones to declare it homicide or something other than missing person case? 

Maybe the FBI will add that part about believed to have met with foul play or endangered.

Woman spotted on bus not missing teen

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Myrtle Beach Police confirmed Thursday that a woman seen on a bus from Georgetown to Myrtle Beach Wednesday is not a missing teenager.

Police said witnesses spotted Brittanee Drexel, 17, a Rochester, NY girl, getting off a bus at First Avenue North and Ocean Boulevard around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

"We can confirm that this woman is not Ms. Drexel," Capt. David Knipes said in a press release. "Even though this lead did not pan out, we are still hopeful that we locate Ms. Drexel safe and sound."

Knipes said the department is continuing to investigate all leads, and encourage anyone with information to call them at 843-918-1952 or 918-1382.

Relatives of the girl handed out flyers to local residents Tuesday in hopes of tracking down the teen who was last seen on Saturday.

So far, both police and relatives have come up empty handed.

Investigators from the Myrtle Beach Police Department met with a family friend of Drexel on Saturday upon the request of the girl's mother. John Hahn says he last made contact with Drexel on Saturday around 8 p.m.

Police say that's around the same time a group of men from her hometown last saw the missing teen, as well. Police continue to question Pete Broswick, Phillip Watson, Matthew Abrams and Keith Cummings after meeting Drexel at Club Kryptonite on Friday evening.

Questioning has revealed Drexel made additional contact with the group of men at an area of beach near the Blue Water Resort around 11 a.m. Saturday. Drexel met the group a second time in their hotel room later that night.

Broswick told police Drexel was involved in an argument with a friend over a pair of shorts she was wearing. Broswick reports Drexel had left his hotel room to return the clothing Saturday evening, and contact was lost with the teen after she left.

Dawn Drexel tells WMBF News that she isn't pointing fingers yet, but thinks Broswick may know something investigators don't.

"To me, I think he knows something," she commented Tuesday evening. "Something's just not right."

Drexel is described by the Myrtle Beach Police Department as 5 feet tall and 103 pounds. She is said to have shoulder-length straight brown hair with blue eyes.

Drexel was last seen wearing a multi-colored shirt, black shorts and flip flops. Police have noted the teen suffers from depression.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Drexel is asked to contact the Myrtle Beach Police Department immediately.

They are on opposite sides of Rochester, NY and about 25 miles apart. So I'm sorry, I could be wrong on them knowing or not knowing each other before hand.

This case is odd.  I think the girl Brittanee is possibly a run away.  I don't get the feeling that the mother is too worried.  I have yet to see panic in her voice or see it in her face.  She dresses in spaghetti tank tops to meet with police and go on national tv and yet, I just don't see desperation coming from her.  She could be well served with a PR person dressing her more like a mom than a barmaid, IMHO.  I don't mean that judgmental, but more observational of what would help her hold the media attention into the search for her child.  Maybe that is judgmental, and if so - is that my fault or the message she is sending with the spaghetti tank tops?   You would no sooner go to court that way, why go to the police and the national media that way?  I wish I had her email to tell her, right or wrong first impressions matter.

I wonder if LE found anything of value in the boy's hotel room.  Also, I think LE should push the boys in the car with him.  I think Rob mentioned yesterday that, unfortunetly, she could have been disposed of anywhere on the way home, which puts LE at a great disadvantage.  I can't imagine these boys wanting to put their futures on the line for him, although teenage loyalty is a bit skewed at times.

I agree.   First impressions do matter.   I didn't mean to be judgemental, either - but that's the feeling I got, also.   I truly hope she is just a runaway.   I also hope they get more info from the girls she was with in MB.   Praying for B.

Yes, I think the "group" all knew this is what she was gonna do - take off.  The one boy who lawyered up does worry me a tad, but that could be diligent parents and his different stories might be trying to cover for her.  Does bug me that he drove home so abruptly - but he might be worried about statutory issues if he had relations with her or just running from the drama if she is a run away. 
Maybe, I just want to believe this kid is fine - or better phrased, not in the hands of another sick SOB.  If she doesn't get a grip soon, she will find herself wishing to have it as good as it was before.

When Casey Capo needs a fresh hairdo, astute fashion advice or a little bit of makeup to bring out her eyes, she goes to her favorite Chili hair salon — Brittanee Drexel's house.

Drexel, an aspiring cosmetologist, would often cut and style her friends' hair during her spare time. She also did some modeling locally for a few years.

"It would be amazing because I would try to describe what style I wanted and even though I wasn't always good at finding the right words, Brit always knew what I meant and my hair always looked great," said Capo, 19, of Brockport, one of Drexel's best friends. "It is just a skill that came natural to her, as if she has been cutting hair for years."

Drexel, a junior at Gates Chili High School, has been missing since Saturday night when she was last seen in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The daughter of Dawn Drexel and Chad Drexel of Gates, she has two younger siblings, ages 5 and 11.

For the past 10 years, she has played in various soccer leagues, including one at Total Sports Experience in Gates. Friends say she often talked about how much fun she had and that she saw it as a stress-reliever during tough times.

"Britt is just a fun-loving party girl who liked to dance and just hang out with her friends," said Jen Murray, 17, a senior at Webster Schroeder High School. "That is one of the reasons why her friends are hurting so badly now, because we are used to spending 99.9 percent of the time with her and now she is nowhere to be found."

She described her friend as confident, self-assured and strong.

"One thing about her is that she knows who she is and doesn't try to be someone else, and that is something that you don't find in teenagers too often," Murray added. "Sometimes we try to fit in and we aren't ourselves."

Where were all of her friends that she went down there with? why was she going there alone? so many questions..

This doesn't even look like her at all.  Maybe it's just too grainy.  I really hope she just ran away and comes home soon, but with that boy taking off at 2am with a $100.00 deposit and then getting a lawyer so fast, I am beginning to have a bad feeling.

The sister told police a man kept moving closer toward her in the elevator and she got out when it stopped on the sixth floor, according police. Investigators plan to get surveillance video from the hotel, police said.

In the second incident, reported just before 10 p.m. Monday at the Hotel Blue at 705 S. Ocean Blvd., a 12-year-old Geneva, N.Y., girl told police a man followed her when she left the pool deck and got into an elevator.

She said the man followed her into the elevator. She got out on the fourth floor and went to use the stairs, but he followed her.

The man followed the girl into the stairwell, the girl told police, then he grabbed her and began to touch her, according to the report. The girl said she freed herself and ran up the stairs as he fled down the stairs. Police searched both hotels for the man.

did this guy just hang around the elevator waiting for young girls to get on ? there should be some sortof surveillance/video in the hallways of the hotel I would think...

Based on the young man's leaving in a hurry and getting a lawyer, I agree ... sadly.

Not sure if this in reference to my post or not, but what are the rules on judging vs observations?  I see pic's and posts galore on the Caylee thread on every player in the case that are far worse than what anyone has said here?  I am confused??????  Is questioning appearance and a persons disposition off limits?  Is it something you get banned for?  Please explain as it sure makes me want to lurk even more than I already do now.

This is one of the strangest disappearances I've seen in quite some time.. and that's really saying something because we have every manner of disappearance conceived here in our archives.

Runaway
Brittanee DID leave home without telling her mother to join her friends on Spring Break. This alone allows motive for her leaving Myrtle Beach under her own power. After-all she left Rochester on her own.

Homicide
So far there are no remains, so it's hard to say conclusively that anyone has been killed. The fact that Brittanee left home for a short stay in Myrtle Beach would allow almost anyone to conclude she was not planning for a long stay or to vanish. She would need more clothing and more cash and some sort of plan. There is always the fact that if Brittanee were planning to runaway - she could have just done that instead of going to Myrtle Beach. Most 17 year olds are not mentally equipped for life on the road and quickly become the prey of predators. We have not heard that her phone was found, and kids always have their phone on their body. Just try separating a kid from his or her phone. We have also not heard what clothes may have been found in Mr. Broswitz's room or what clothes were found in Brittanee's room. There are alot of unanswered questions here along with no forensic info available. We have heard of no blood or biological fluids or material. In a hotel room, well, most hotel rooms are a sea of biological materials. It could take some time to separate out all the differing DNA from the two rooms.

I also wonder if any sheets or comforters are missing from either room. It's sorta hard to leave a hotel with a body slung over your shoulder, so I naturally wonder if something could have been used to conceal Brittanee and get her to a car.

Mr. Broswitz appears to admit he is one of the last people to see Brittanee, along with Mr. Haun. Mr. Broswitz leaves MB at 2 am, leaves a $100 room deposit and drives 17 hours home. Highly suspicious, but not a crime in and of itself.

Early reports were that some of Brittanee's clothing was found in his room.

Unknown abductor
Not anything to indicate that this is the correct scenario, although stranger things have happened. Every city has it's predators and they are often doing what they do - which is - stalking and preying on the weak and potential victims. Could this be a crime of opportunity? Nothing to date indicates that's what has occurred. That doesn't mean that Brittanee was not abducted by an unknown, just that there is nothing that WE know of yet that points any of us in this direction.

In a way, this crime is this reminds me of Kara Kopetsky. Seen on video leaving school and never seen again. Where the crime differs is Brittanee was with friends (her girlfriends) and some people that she seems to have met and did not know previously. Kara was by herself. It's also hard to imagine that none of Brittanee's friends have NO knowledge.

I wonder if any nearby bank cameras have captured her image as she past by. Or if there were any other surveillance cameras that may have picked-up anything. All should be checked and I hope they were as most have a cycle and the images are not stored forever. These camera systems use larger hard drives then in earlier times, but even so, all surrounding cameras should have already been checked.

I have heard nothing about any interviews with Mr. Broswitz or Mr. Haun. I have not heard that anyone's car has been impounded and that's just plain foolish. If someone admits to being one of the last or THE last person to be in the company of a missing person - you immediately check out his story and any and all vehicles. 

I have a hard time believing that Mr. Broswitz could have disposed of a body so well that it would not accidentally been found by now. Most people on vacation (spring break) do not know where to place the remains so they will not be found. Which of-course leads to the speculation that Brittanee is not in MB and somewhere on the route back home. Which leads back to impounding the car.

A reminder is just that.  We post reminders often in all the threads.  You guys are making a bigger deal out of my reminder than it's meant to be. 

Sorry, didn't mean to make a bigger deal out of it than it was meant to be, I was just honestly confused - it was posted by you and two mod's and I actually thought this thread seemed fair and only wanted to know the rules so I don't screw up.  I don't understand why some can joke and other can't.  I recently joked and was totally ripped without rhyme or reason and then that post was removed and now I feel a fool for even posting, truth be told.  Then I posted an observation and that reminded was bumped. 
I think I get the message.  Thanks.

I took it as a blanket reminder to everyone, and not singling anyone out....so no big deal by me...

Excellent post, Rob!!   I really hope she ran away, fearing she would be get in trouble for going to Myrtle Beach, and is on her way home. 

When my parents got divorced, my brother and I were forced to sit in front of a judge and tell him which parent we wanted to live with.  Well, as the day got closer for us to meet with the judge to make our "parent selection" I ran away for 3 days ( I was only 13 yrs. old, but thought I knew everything).  I stayed with two different friends close to my neighborhood (of course their parents called my parents, but I didn't know that at the time).  Anyhow, after the first day I was homesick and really wanted to go home to either parent, but I became so fearful of what my parents would do to me for running away, I decided to stay away longer than I wanted to. 

I know that my close friends kept mum to a lot of our other friends to protect my whereabouts, just because they knew I was safe, but the police were never called in (because my parents were in contact with them, only I didn't know it at the time).  If the police had been called, I know my friends would have told them where I was.  My point is, her friends know something, but they aren't saying. 

Sorry to ramble, but I am just hoping that Brittanee just needed to clear her head and is safe right now, but maybe too scared to come home because of all of the media attention.  Wishful and hopeful thinking on my part.

New York teen Brittanee Drexel had "her mind set" on spring break in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Her mom didn't want her to go, but the strong-willed 17-year-old from Rochester, N.Y., went anyway. Now she's missing, and her mom fears the worst.

Brittanee's mom, Dawn Drexel, said her daughter made it to her South Carolina hotel and kept in touch until last Saturday night. That's when the messages suddenly stopped and the high school junior vanished, seemingly without a trace, she said.

"It's a parent's worst nightmare," said Drexel. "There's a lot of things that don't add up, and I'm scared that there's the possibility that she's not alive."

Drexel is worried because her daughter suffers from depression, and she's losing hope that she will be found safe. She said Brittanee may have been upset because she and her daughter's stepfather are getting divorced.

Brittanee had asked for permission to travel to Myrtle Beach, but Drexel said she wouldn't let her go.

"I just said no, you're not going," Drexel told The Associated Press. "But when she gets her mind set on something, she just wants to do it, and that's it. I'm pretty positive she had left Wednesday night."


Male Friend May Have Been Last to See Teen Alive

The teen's hotel room at the Bar Harbor Hotel was abandoned, and she left all her belongings behind. Her cell phone, which has been tracked, was the only item missing, according to Myrtle Beach police spokesman Capt. David Knipes.

Brittanee left the Bar Harbor Hotel Saturday night about 8 p.m. and went to visit a friend named Peter Broswick, who was with a group of male friends at the nearby Blue Water Resort.

Detectives believe Broswick may have been the last one to see the missing teen alive.

Broswick is also from Rochester and left the beach town for home about 1 a.m. the night Brittanee was last seen, according to News Channel 15's CarolinaLive.com.

Police released footage of the girl entering and leaving the lobby of the Blue Water about 8:25 p.m. Saturday.

Knipes told FOXNews.com he doesn't know the nature of the pair's relationship.

"I'm not sure what their relationship was, other than they knew each other," he said.

Broswick has been questioned on the phone by Myrtle Beach investigators and in person by Rochester, N.Y., according to Knipes.

"He left before we were notified of the disappearance," Knipes told FOXNews.com. He has reportedly retained an attorney.

Knipes stopped short of calling Broswick a person of interest in the disappearance.

"We haven’t named anybody as a suspect," Knipes told FOXNews.com. "But since this case is under investigation, nothing has been ruled out. We don’t know whether this is a simple runaway or an abduction. We don't have anything to go on."

Knipes said Broswick's sudden, middle-of-the-night departure from Myrtle Beach could raise suspicions, according to CarolinaLive.com.

"I have not had the chance to interview him to find out why. Obviously going back to Rochester is a 16-17-hour drive," Knipes told the station. "I don't know what his plans were. So it's hard to speculate without talking to him directly."

Brittanee reportedly left Broswick's room when one of her friends at the Bar Harbor called saying she needed back her pair of shorts, CarolinaLive.com reported. The girl apparently vanished Saturday night going from one hotel to the other, a distance of about 20 blocks, according to Knipes.

She wasn't reported missing by one of her friends until the next day.

Brittanee's mother said she is suspicious of the timing of Broswick's departure from the beach town hours after her daughter disappeared.

"I'm not stupid," Drexel told the station. "You don't check out at one or two in the morning."

She told News Channel 15 that a private investigator said her daughter's friend didn't collect his security deposit before leaving the hotel, though that hasn't been confirmed.

Little Evidence, Surveillance Tapes Sought

Knipes didn't elaborate on whether police had collected any forensic evidence in the case, but implied that they hadn't.

"We have no crime scene," he told FOXNews.com.

Police are seeking other security camera videos that may have captured the girl on film.

Knipes declined to describe where police were looking for more surveillance tapes, saying they were seeking any and all footage of the missing teen.

An intense search for Brittanee Drexel has yielded little, other than a look-alike on a bus whose sighting led police on a wild goose chase until they realized she wasn't the missing girl, but a local hotel employee.

"Even though this lead did not pan out, we are still hopeful that we locate Ms. Drexel safe and sound," Knipes wrote in a Thursday press release. "We continue to investigate all leads."

But they have no concrete leads to go on.

"Obviously it's a very concerning thing, when you have a 17-year-old with a history of depression who could do harm to herself or others," Knipes said.

Her worried mother initially thought her daughter, a junior on spring break from Gates-Chili High School, was staying with friends only a few miles from home.

Dawn Drexel didn't know Brittanee was in Myrtle Beach until the girl's boyfriend John Grieco called her, according to CarolinaLive.com. Then, on April 23, Brittanee texted her mom that she was "at the beach."

Dawn Drexel said she communicated with her daughter through cell phone calls and texts between Thursday and Saturday, exchanging messages about soccer equipment she was going to buy for Brittanee.

Those messages stopped at 8 p.m. Saturday. Grieco notified Brittanee's mother about her disappearance.

"He said, 'Yeah, they can't find her,'" Drexel told the station. "I said, 'Are you serious?' He said, 'Yeah.'"

Drexel said stress from her impending divorce to Brittanee's stepfather may have contributed to her daughter's depression — and possibly her decision to come to Myrtle Beach.

"She tries to watch out for her brother and sister," Drexel said. "It was very stressful in the household."

Comparisons Drawn to Natalee Holloway

The case is reminiscent of the high-profile disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway in Aruba four years ago this month.

Holloway has never been found, despite exhaustive investigations and searches on the Caribbean island. Three boys last seen with her have been arrested, questioned and released, but no one has been prosecuted in the case.

"There’s obviously similarities if people are thinking about that: a young woman goes on vacation and disappears," Knipes told FOXNews.com. "But we don’t have anything to show any foul play."

Still, police investigating Brittanee's disappearance and the teen's loved ones are hoping she will be found alive.

On Monday, Brittanee's mom, boyfriend and a handful of her friends posted dozens of flyers in Myrtle Beach bearing the missing teen's picture and description.

Her father, who lives near Tampa, Fla., is in Myrtle Beach with his wife and relatives and is helping in the search, Drexel said.

Brittanee's stepfather also has been helping out from Rochester, fielding some media calls during the teen's disappearance.

Teams from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children are also assisting in the search, according to Knipes.

Detectives in Rochester are interviewing Brittanee's friends and others from the area who traveled to Myrtle Beach last week.

Allanna Lippa, 19, said she was one of about 15 people in the group who stayed "in one big room" at the motel. Lippa returned to Rochester, where she is now worrying about her friend.

"There's a million things that could have possibly happened to her," said Lippa, 19. "She was fun, a little ball of energy. But she was also depressed."

Brittanee Drexel has blue eyes and shoulder-length brown hair with blond highlights. She's 5 feet tall, weighs about 103 pounds and was last seen wearing a multi-colored shirt, black shorts and flip-flops.

Scared Monkeys has always thrived to be an ADVOCATE and support for families of the missing.  In the case of Natalee Holloway, no one was allowed to post negative things about the victim or her family because the point was to be here in SUPPORT of those very people.

Now with Caylee Anthony, we have a totally different situation with a family member RESPONSIBLE for the disappearance.  That is different because I don't think anyone wants to post in support of that.

So if we are here to support the families of the missing, we certainly don't want to be posting things that might offend them should they read here.  You might be surprised to learn how many families have read here over the years.

Doesn't it serve the purpose of being an advocate of these families to hold off on the wild speculation when there is nothing to warrant it other than how someone might "look" to another person?  Until proven otherwise, I will assume this is a family in tremendous pain right now.


And some families are certainly more deserving of respect than others.  But not enough is known about this situation for anybody to start throwing rocks, IMO.

This should all be obvious, too.

Investigators search near river for missing NY teen

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Police and detectives are in Georgetown County Friday "leaving no stone unturned" in the search for a missing New York teen.

Myrtle Beach Police Capt. David Knipes confirmed to WMBF News that crews are at the North Santee River following up on leads received earlier this week on the whereabouts of Brittanee Drexel, 17. Knipes would not confirm what the lead was, but said they are "leaving no stone unturned."

WMBF News has a crew on the scene and will have more information as it becomes available.

Investigators from the Myrtle Beach Police Department met with a family friend of Drexel on Saturday upon the request of the girl's mother. John Hahn says he last made contact with Drexel on Saturday around 8 p.m.

Police say that's around the same time a group of men from her hometown last saw the missing teen, as well. Police continue to question Pete Broswick, Phillip Watson, Matthew Abrams and Keith Cummings after meeting Drexel at Club Kryptonite on Friday evening.

Questioning has revealed Drexel made additional contact with the group of men at an area of beach near the Blue Water Resort around 11 a.m. Saturday. Drexel met the group a second time in their hotel room later that night.

Broswick told police Drexel was involved in an argument with a friend over a pair of shorts she was wearing. Broswick reports Drexel had left his hotel room to return the clothing Saturday evening, and contact was lost with the teen after she left.

Dawn Drexel tells WMBF News that she isn't pointing fingers yet, but thinks Broswick may know something investigators don't.

"To me, I think he knows something," she commented Tuesday evening. "Something's just not right."

Drexel is described by the Myrtle Beach Police Department as 5 feet tall and 103 pounds. She is said to have shoulder-length straight brown hair with blue eyes.

Drexel was last seen wearing a multi-colored shirt, black shorts and flip flops. Police have noted the teen suffers from depression.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Drexel is asked to contact the Myrtle Beach Police Department immediately.

He was interview via conference call with his local LE.

In the above article - indications are that the police are still talking to Brozowitz. Earlier reports seem to say he was not a suspect.

I guess we'll need to wait and see what might come from the tip indicating the river.

I have to wonder if this area is on the way home for Mr. Brozowitz.

This area would not be in the direction Mr. Borowitz would head back to NY, IMO

Missing Chili Teen: Webster Man Says He Isn't Involved

The search continues for a missing Chili teenager.  She was last seen in South Carolina on Saturday night.  Up and down Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach family and friends of Brittanee Drexel hung fliers for the second day in a row.  She still hasn't been found, but new details show there's hope.



 


Back here in Rochester, Monroe County Sheriff Deputies are talking to the people were in Myrtle Beach with Brittanee.  A Webster man has been interviewed.  On Wednesday, we talked to Peter Brozowitz' famiy and his attorney.  They both insist he had nothing to do with Brittanee’s disappearance.  "Here's a 20 year old who is loving life and all the sudden he now becomes a nationally advertised person of interest which is ridiculous," said John Parrinello.



 


High profile Defense Attorney John Parrinello says his client has nothing to do with Brittanee Drexel's disappearance.  Police today told us there is no person of interest in the case.  We do know Peter Brozowitz and Brittanee Drexel spent time together in Myrtle Beach.  "They've known each other off and on for maybe two years on a friendship basis.  There was never any romantic connection," said Parrinello.



 


Peter may be one of the last people who saw Brittanee.  We spoke with his father Mark Brozowitz Wednesday afternoon.  He says his son is being singled out and Peter can't wait to clear his name.  Peter left South Carolina shortly after Brittanee went missing.  He headed back here to Rochester.  On his way back, Myrtle Beach Police called him and asked him to contact Brittanee.  "All the way back on the trip he was calling her on her cell phone he'd text her ask her where are you," said Parrinello.



 


Parrinello says Peter’s worried about Brittanee.  "I think everyone is headed in the wrong direction if they think about Peter," said Parrinello.



 


Parrinello maintains Peter continues to cooperate with police as the search for Brittanee continues into another day.  If you have any information, you're asked to call 911 or the Myrtle Beach Police Department at (843) 918-1382.

Police officers from Myrtle Beach are in Georgetown County with other agencies searching areas near U.S. 17 and the North and South Santee Rivers for Brittanee Marie Drexel, a 17-year-old from New York who disappeared while on a visit to Myrtle Beach.

Capt. David Knipes from Myrtle Beach police said investigators are following all leads and one of those lead officers from Myrtle Beach and other agencies to look into an area of Georgetown County.

Lt. Chuck Capp with Myrtle Beach police said "we are trying to exhaust all leads." A canine unit from Myrtle Beach is at the South Santee River near the Charleston County line, and police are conducting a land and water search for Drexel. She is still considered a missing person.
 
 Officers from the Myrtle Beach Police Department, Georgetown County Sheriff's Office, Charleston County Sheriff's Office, State Law Enforcement Division and North Charleston Police Department are at the river. Capp would not specify what tip information has led police to the river location.

Monica Caison from the Community United Effort Center for Missing Persons, based in Wilmington, N.C., was also at the river and dogs from the agency were searching woods near the river. The North Carolina Canine Emergency Response Team, a group of retired police officers, also has joined the search.

I think there are conflicting reports as to cell phone use as I heard today on news, was out of room just listening so not even sure which news, but they were saying no cell phone or ATM activity since Saturday.

So there is an 8:30 p.m. contact them the 1 or 2 odd a.m. checkout.

Police scour rivers for missing N.Y. girl

GEORGETOWN -- An intense land and water search near the North and South Santee rivers Friday turned up nothing for police looking for a missing 17-year-old girl from New York.

Police officers from Myrtle Beach were in Georgetown County with officials from several other agencies, searching areas near U.S. 17 and two rivers for Brittanee Marie Drexel, who disappeared while on a visit to Myrtle Beach.

Capt. David Knipes with the Myrtle Beach police said investigators are following all leads, one of which led officers to look into an area of Georgetown County.

Lt. Chuck Capp would not specify what information in the tip led police to the remote river location.

Drexel still is considered a missing person, according to Capp, who said nothing related to her was located during Friday's search.

Officers from the Myrtle Beach Police Department, Georgetown County Sheriff's Office, Charleston County Sheriff's Office, State Law Enforcement Division and North Charleston Police Department were at the river until late Friday.

Also searching were representatives from Community United Effort, a North Carolina-based organization that searches for missing people, and North Carolina Canine Emergency Response Team, a group of retired police officers who assist with searches.

Some searchers used boats with side-scan sonar equipment to check the river for the girl, Capp said.

Monica Caison from CUE used dogs to search a forest nearby. Authorities expect more people to participate in the search when it resumes at 10 a.m. today.

Police have been looking for Drexel since she was reported missing Sunday.

On Thursday, police learned that a reported sighting of Drexel on Wednesday was incorrect. A young woman who fit Drexel's description turned out not to be her, Knipes said Thursday.

Officers found the woman that witnesses reported seeing at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday on a bus from Georgetown to Myrtle Beach and confirmed she was not Drexel, Knipes said.

Police said Drexel, who is described as 5 feet tall and 103 pounds, was last seen wearing black shorts, flip-flops and a multicolored striped shirt. She has shoulder-length brown hair and blue eyes.

pink angel in the article I just posted above - I think the cell phone stopped pinging in the vicinity of the river.

Given that (and it's just speculation on my part) it seems Mrs. Drexel is right to be concerned. She obviously knows more than any of us.

I guess with no credible sightings, Brittanee is most likely no longer alive and either a crime victim or a potential suicide.

I guess there is a chance for suicide, but how would she know how to get to this river? That seems unlikely in my opinion.

I have been holding out hope Brittanee is alive, but with no sightings, her being 17, and the police combing a river - this just doesn't have the makings for a good ending - sorry to say.

I guess if Brittanee is found in that river the question will be how she got there with no car.

Family, friends continue search for missing teen

Nearly a week after a Chili teenager went missing in South Carolina, the search is now focused on two rivers 30 miles south of where she was last seen in Myrtle Beach.
   
Brittanee Drexel, a junior at Gates-Chili High School, went missing last Saturday after she went to Myrtle Beach for spring break.
   
"To think that your daughter could be out there...and maybe being held against her own will or...she may not be alive is a horrible feeling," Dawn Drexel, Brittanee Drexel's mother, said. "A horrible feeling."
   
Dive teams searched the North and South Santee Rivers south of Myrtle Beach on Friday. They combed a two to three mile radius with boats, helicopters and dogs but found nothing.
   
"It's very hurtful to know that they're searching in that kind of way," Chad Drexel, Brittanee Drexel's father, said. "They're searching for...I don't even want to say the words. It's disturbing but at least I know they're doing all they can."
   
Surveillance photos show Drexel last Saturday night leaving a Myrtle Beach hotel where several male friends were staying. It was the last time she was seen.
   
In Rochester, Drexel's friend Casey Capo has raised nearly three thousand dollars. The money goes to Drexel's family and friends to pay for flyers and other search expenses.
   
"I really truly am honestly begging everyone to continue," Capo, who has collected money for The Brittanee Drexel Fund at Wal-Mart and a local restaurant, said. "Don't give up. It's not something you can give up on."
   
As police return to the rivers Saturday morning, Drexel's mother will keep searching too-- determined to bring her daughter home.
   
"I have to find her," Dawn Drexel said. "We'll keep handing out flyers, keep going down the boulevard...go to places that we think she may be...looking down streets. We're going to do whatever we can. I'm not leaving my daughter here."

If there were 5 guys in the hotel room, when did the others leave.  20 blocks is about three miles, right?  I dont understand how anyone (the girls in the their hotel or the boys in theirs ) would let a friend walk  that far alone at night, (not putting the blame on anyone)

Let's face it - this isn't a random search. This is based on something case specific to Brittanee.

I think (to possibly answer your question Kat_Gram)... Mr. Brozowitz was also pinged somewhere along the route and area.

I think they have possibly triangulated him. When disposing of a body and being 20 years old - things like cell pings slip your mind - if ya know what I mean.

If I am not mistaken, this man left after he knew the girl was missing or there was some questions as to her location. Her friends ? also knew she was unlocated. Yet, they all just left MB. Left her clothes in the hotel room and left.

No wonder her Mumma is confused and things aren't adding up for her because they aren't adding up for me either.   

cookie, what I find interesting is this may have occurred before his attorney showed up on the scene. His attorney, if competent and I have no reason to doubt he is nothing but an upstanding member of the Bar and legal profession, would have told the police to conduct their own investigation and to leave his client out of it.

I think the LE were looking for his cell signature. A nice tricky move on their part.

Why not ask her mother, her girlfriends, or even her dad to place those calls?

I think they had a cell signature and needed a match.

In a sense - they had Brittanee's cell pings and her phone's signature, and also had a corresponding time line for another cell phone, but who's was it? But asking the last person to admit he saw her to place those calls - they can tighten the time line and confirm if it was indeed Mr. Brozowitz.

I'm not sure that an argument over a skirt could escalate to a murder, but stranger things have happened. And then again, how would any of the girls no where to dispose of the body?

In order to dispose of a body in this location (if this is where she is located and it's all speculation at this point) you need some knowledge of the land and roadways. The other option is you just drive until you find a place you think is suitable and just hope for the best and you don't get caught.

At this point with none of the girlfriends under any kind of scrutiny - I go back to the last person seen with the missing person and he seems to be the only one with an attorney and a time line that has him leaving the area almost immediately. 

I've been wondering (naturally) why Mr. Brozowitz is not under POI status, did not return to speak to the MB police and did that via conference call with his local LE in the presence of his attorney - and then it dawned on me - He IS THE SUSPECT.

The MB police know where he is and can have him extradited upon the retrieval of a body (presuming Brittanee is deceased) and I don't think he's going to return voluntarily due to the death penalty in South Carolina.

Mr. Brozowitz knows he's the suspect - his own action have affirmed that in my mind. His family and attorney can place a positive spin on it all they want - but his own actions speak louder than words.

He won't be the first young man with no record, and a loving kind boy to kill a little girl, nor will he be the last.

With Brittanee now missing almost a full week, no clothing, not much money, and no contact with anyone - I think it's safe so assume she can not communicate on her own voluntarily.

I just have a very bad feeling about the entire situation. Her cell being south of MB, her so called friends, the driver of the car she went down there with just leaving, and this Peter guy leaving the way he did so suddenly. There was a " fight " about some shorts, but leaving your friend in MB over a pair of unreturned shorts seems pretty callous.

I did read last night how pings worked. I remember when Geo Ant went mising and how they found him by calling his cell and the pings. They didn't get the exact location, but they were pretty close. They knew the approximate location and drove around the very small area until they found his car.

I agree with you Rob. He left before the MB LE could speak to him and now it is all thu his high powered attorney.
And if they want to search his car, the car in in Rochester with this guy and they would need a search warrant and probable cause. In the meantime, time is passing and the guys who were there with him, were they glued to Peter after she left their hotel room ?

A cell-phone signal led authorities to the North and South Santee rivers in Georgetown County this weekend to search for a missing New York girl, but neither the phone nor the girl has been found, authorities said as they resumed their efforts this morning.

The S.C. Department of Natural Resources has joined in the search for 17-year-old Brittanee Marie Drexel, and rescue dogs are assisting. Fliers with a picture of Drexel are being distributed nearby.

Drexel was reported missing Sunday after she was last seen leaving one Myrtle Beach hotel on foot but failed to show up at another one. She is still considered a missing person, police have said.

No body, no sign of a struggle in the motel room, no motive.  I am still holding out hope that she will be found alive.

Wonder if she hopped a cab? Iran hung a cabbie convicted of multiple rapes and assaults on women and girls. Just making the point. And the lady in the above quote makes a good point - how does someone walk twenty blocks - in a strange town - and not get lost. My first thought is to get a cab.

This also explains why LE thought she might be on that bus. Same direction as the pings apparently.

Rob - I'm thinking her body was thrown in the river and floated downstream?  I know they haven't found her yet but that is how I'm viewing this latest info.

Around 9:15 or 9:30 Saturday night was the last contact anyone had with her.
She had just left the hotel where she had been visiting with the five boys.
To walk twenty blocks.
Someone had to go to school, Not Peter as he doesn't go to school.
Whose idea was it to leave because they were concerned with school ?
Did one of these gentlemen leave and perhaps offer her a ride the twenty blocks ?
One thing I have to say is that the Mum acted really quickly in calling the friend, Mr. Hahn to go to MB to locate Brittanee. There are street cams that can be checked and hotel lobby cams along with bar cams at the entrances, before they are taped over. The MB police seem to be on the ball and acting quickly unlike LE in some of the cases we read about where they take a wait and see attitude.   
I too fear the worst and hope for the best.
Brittanee did a stupid thing ( going to MB the way she did and who she went with and then being alone in between friends ) but I was 17 once and did many stupid things.
Someone didn't just grab her off a well travelled street.

After a week her body would naturally surface due to gases and so far there doesn't seem to be any sign of her. The most logical areas would be the river banks. Bodies almost always end up there and we have three rivers here - that's where they're always found.

Something just hit me.

This almost has all the hallmarks of the Smiley Face Killers.

I don't believe that any SFK victims have ever been found south of West Virgina though.

I know most don't know alot about that criminal organization, but this seem eerily familiar.

I like the boy who checked out in the middle of the night leaving his deposit as a POI however this more remote location south and out of town seems to implicate possibly a local.

Hi Anna, yes, it is a gang. A multi-state gang and you're not the only one who doesn't understand it. No known POIs as far as I know and speculation that a designer drug is used to incapacitate the victims. Also speculation that women are part of the gang and are used to lead men to their demise. Extremely complex case. And infact, probably the most complex I've ever seen. I can only imagine what the FBI thinks of this whole thing. As long as I have been looking into it - they have made no head-way that I'm aware of and didn't even know the gang existed until about two years ago. These were thought to be random unconnected crimes until someone made one connection and forced a review of many cases. There are probably many more than 40 victims. I believe the number 40 is actual number of cases that can be proven to be connected.

In the case of the SFKs it's hard to know an actual motive or method.

There is a new video on Fox News showing more pictures of Brittanee and they show a picture of Natalee Holloway too.  I dont know how to bring this video over.

This one is bothering me quite a bit. Young girls going missing like this. Families that love them and will do anything for the girl to come home. The Mother acting so quickly and having posters up all around the area is a good thing, maybe someone saw her get in a car. Her top is somewhat eye catching. The cam shots do not look anything like her face pictures we saw. Not to me anyway.

If this purse was thrown in the river, might it float for a while before sinking and destroying any cell phone inside?

It is odd that the kid left at the time in the morning...did he leave alone? would others go along with him transporting and then getting rid of a body along the way? or did he have her in the trunk and the luggage was in the back seat....then he put her body somewhere nearer to home after he dropped off the other guy if there was someone else?
If he had not left the hotel the way that he did and got lawyered up, he might not be so suspect now!
ok, I will just ask this...no nanners..... but...has it crossed any one's mind that  her boyfriend got pissy cause she was messing around with these other guys, her so called friends told him when he kept trying to call her, maybe he didn't even know that she had gone down there for spring break...her parents didn't know...he came down, followed her...they fought, the rest is history? geez, I feel bad for even writing any of this stuff down, but we have seen so many cases where we know that no one can be ruled out....

There wasn't enough time for the BF to get from NY to MB and then back again.

After a fruitless effort Saturday, many of the groups searching for a missing New York teenager say they will not return Sunday to the riverside area where her cell phone last gave off a signal.

As many as 50 people - including local law enforcement officials, the S.C. Department of Natural Resources, rescue dog teams and private search groups - searched the area around U.S. 17 and the South Santee River near the Georgetown-Charleston county line on Saturday for 17-year-old Brittanee Marie Drexel.

Drexel's cell phone gave off its last known signal there Sunday, but was not in use at the time and investigators have not determined how it got there, said Georgetown County Sheriff Lane Cribb on Saturday. Phones normally give off a signal until their batteries run out, he said.

Helicopters, land and water teams are all lookied for the Rochester girl, but neither she nor her phone was found, Cribb said. Only Myrtle Beach police are expected to return to the area on Sunday.

Drexel was reported missing Sunday after she was last seen leaving one Myrtle Beach hotel on foot but failed to show up at another one. She is still considered a missing person, and police are continuing to speak to people around the hotels in hopes of finding someone who saw her.

Thanks for the photos, Klaas.  Glad to see the dogs are in use.  They should be able to find that cell phone provided it was not tossed in the water but on land.

From the behavior of LE I am hoping they know something but even if they do, it is still not looking good for any good resolution to this disappearance.

I did a read around mostly at In Session. They have articles etc.
Also Mrs. Drexel was on Geraldo tonight.
Some of the facts are confusing, the ones that speak of who she texted last, etc.
Some of the things I gleaned give me a different impression of what was going on with Britanee. It's just an impression.
She was depressed and had a new prescription. Taking the divorce and the house foreclosure very badly.
She was hanging around with the boys that included Peter B as there had been some disagreements with the girls she came with. She wasn't at their hotel very long.
She had been texting her boyfriend back in Rochester that evening. When he could not get a response, he called her mother. Dawn called John Hahn. He went to MB.
Dawn called the Rochester LE and the missing persons report was filed by John Hahn at 4:51 am. Hahn is a family friend and he was closer than Dawn to MB.
We don't know the state of mind of Brittanee or what she was saying to her boyfriend.
He was alarmed enough when he couldn't contact her again to call her mother who got the ball rolling with everyone.

The one thing that wasn't clear in anything I read was if Peter B was aware that she was " missing " when they left MB.

Her state of mind is important in this. It might have made her take a big risk and wind up with people she hardly knew.

No new news today.  It cannot be good though, that she is not using her phone or her debit card.

There has been only one police report. The original missing persons that was filed.

Don't know what to think but can't come up with anything plausible that has a good ending right now and gets worse with each passing day as someone would have seen her for sure.

Missing Teen in South Carolina Has Florida Ties

CARROLLWOOD, FL-- "She's five feet tall, about 103 pounds with a skinny frame. She's just an All-American girl," said Sera Sarikaya of Tampa, describing her cousin Brittanee Drexel, who disappeared last week while on Spring Break in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Since then, the seventeen-year-old has made national news and, it turns out, she has ties to Tampa. The teen's father and extended family live in the Bay area.

Today, her aunt Filiz and cousin Sera hit the streets of Ybor City with flyers of Brittanee's face in hopes of finding some trace of the teen.

While Brittanee lives with her mother in New York, she visits her father in Florida from time to time. Her family says she was supposed to spend Spring Break at her father John's home in Carrollwood but she made a snap decision to go to Myrtle Beach with her friends instead.

Brittanee's friends say the last time they saw her was last Saturday night when she left to visit another friend - alone.

"The FBI is on this. So are the local authorities in Myrtle Beach and the Adam Walsh Foundation," said Sarikaya.

The girl's father, John, is alongside those authorities in Myrtle Beach - a Spring Break hot spot - that he describes as, "no good."

"[He says] everyone's drunk or on something. He's like, there are so many back alleys," Sarikaya told 10 Connects about what her cousin John told her over the phone.

It is no surprise that this family fears the worst. "That my cousin is going to find her body... I hope it does not come to that," said Filiz Odabas of Tampa.

Through the tears, this family keeps the faith that Brittanee will come home safe and soon.

The family insists that even though Brittanee was sad about her parents' divorce, she is still a happy kid who would never run away.

this is different than what her mother said...she said that B had asked about going to MB for spring break and was told no...so this was no snap decision as I see it...this is the first that I personally have heard that she was to go to her fathers for spring break....
also, her mother thought that she had gone away for a few days to hang out with her friend since she was very angry about being told no to going on spring break...It would seem that going to the friends house was an obvious cover and the intent all along was to sneak to MB right?
also, when they keep mentioning the divorce that she is upset about, that would be with her mother and her current husband....not with her bio dad and mother...I am still wondering why B went by the last name of Drexel since that is not bio dad's last name, unless the step dad adopted her...
regardless of all this, I hope that this little girl is found safe....it is getting scarier and scarier...

Kat do you think since they havent found a body, either homicide or suicide, that it is possible she planned the runaway and has another means of support in place so she doesnt have to use her phone or her debit card???

I don't think she planned anything like running away. She is only 17 and I doubt if
she had any cash other than what she scrapped up to go to MB.

I just think her state of mind is important. We don't know if she had been drinking with those boys. Those meds were anti depressants. Her mother had said it was a new 'script. Prescription drugs and booze ? never good in any age, never mind a 17 year old.

She could have gone with some people she hardly knew, or got into a car willingly to get where she was going. Probably easy prey.

Myrtle Beach Police continued searching Sunday for a missing Chili teenager.

Brittanee Drexel went missing over a week ago while on spring break. In the past two days 50 men and women searched the woods and water. However, on Sunday police say only a handful of officers continued the search.

"I seriously think someone took my daughter or she may not be alive," said Dawn Drexel, Brittanee's mother.

The Gates Chili High School Junior was last seen leaving a hotel in Myrtle Beach where a bunch of her friends were staying. Drexel says police have questioned all of them.

"As far as I know they’ve done what they needed to do as far as those boys are concerned back home," said Drexel. "They’re not persons of interest anymore."

Brittanee's cell phone gave off its last signal 30 miles south of Myrtle Beach. However, police say she never made a call. Drexel says her daughter would never just run off even though she had a lot on her plate.

"Brittanee would have come back by now," said Drexel. "I don't want the media making this out like this is all about her depression because it's not." 

Back at home, strangers are coming forward to help. Zach Smith and his family sold hotdogs in their front yard and collected bottles and cans. They are raising money so the Drexel family can stay in South Carolina and search for Brittanee.

"I hope they find her," said Smith.

"I know they're doing everything they can so hopefully they'll find her safe soon," said Zach's father JP Smith. "I love my kids and I don't know what I would do if something like that ever happened." 

Drexel says this community is getting her through these very difficult days.

"Thank god we have all the support and love and everything else from back home," said Drexel. "It’s difficult. No parent should ever have to go through this. Ever!"

I think we really need to dig deep and see what could have happened to Brittanee.

so, is the mother saying that even that Peter guy is/was cleared? that he is not a person of interest? what gives?
can they not trace her steps somehow from one hotel to another? so many cameras around everywhere..nothing?

Peter B is cleared ? Well I guess for the time being.
What they aren't giving out is where she was going when she left. She texted ?? and said she was going not to return the shorts, but to another hotel.
This Peter B did not speak to police in MB until Wednesday after he had a lawyer.
He might have cleared out because he knew he was going to be questioned.
This girl was in a club or two and was underage.
The police are pretty tight lipped about everything so I guess that leaves us to speculate.

As I said the other day - THIS IS ONE OF THE STRANGEST DISAPPEARANCES I'VE EVER SEEN. We have every manner of disappearance in our archives, so nothing is really new, just perplexing. And this is one of the most perplexing cases I've seen in quite some time.

This case is similar to Kara Kopetsky and both Kara and Brittanee are almost certainly crime victims. I don't believe that if either were able to call their parents - they wouldn't. Even kids that briefly runaway - eventually come home and call their parents. Young kids and teenagers do not have a concept of time that adults possess. Time for a teenager is much different that for an adult and we all remember what "time" was like when we were that age. A week is forever.

Let's go back to the beginning - that's always the best place to start.

Brittanee received a call to return a shirt or shorts and left the hotel. She is seen on tape leaving. That alone seems to clear Mr. Brozowitz / Broswick. (I've seen his name spelled both ways and I have no idea why this is still not straightened out).

But does that really clear him? I say no. He could have easily left the building right after Brittanee through another door and followed her and "accidentally" ran into her around the back or on the side of the building.

The police asked him to call and text Brittanee and that alone is one of the strangest investigative techniques I think I've ever seen. When was the last time you heard that the police asked that last person to see the missing person to continue calling the missing person. That's just odd on that face of it and adds another layer of perplexion.

I speculated that this technique was to acquire his cell signature without a court order and it could be a nice tricky move on their part if he does it voluntarily. But I think you will agree - this was one of the odder moments in this case.

Mr. B (as I'll call him now because I'm still not sure what his real name is and the proper spelling on day 9. The media is still spelling it both ways and there does not seem to be any clarification, although on poster on Blink on Crime seems to say it is Broswick and seems to know of him and his background) has his own suspicious behavior. His behavior is not a crime, just suspicious. Whenever the last person to see a missing person does what he does - it's natural to begin looking at his movements and ulterior motives. We all know what he did immediately after Brittanee vanished. 9 times outta 10 the last person to see the missing person is the perp. We all know that. In the other cases, there is an unknown perp or the person has voluntarily left on their own.

I think we can rule out Brittanee left on her own with only 100 dollars for her entire stay. Unless she had a secret stash of money, I doubt she has the means and experience to remain missing this long. To remain undetected for nine days takes skills. Those skills are hard to acquire especially for a 17 year old. Seasoned criminals are often found relatively quickly and although they make their living as criminals they often don't possess the skills needed to remain hidden long.

Possibilities-

Suicide
As terrible as this is to consider, we must none the less. Mrs. Drexel has indicated that life in her home has not been a bed of roses recently and that Brittanee has had previous issues with depression. I think depression is a natural part of life. It's how it's handled that makes all the difference. We are all made from the same basic genetic material and all have times in our lives when we become depressed. Depression is the sister of happiness. We all desire happiness and unfortunately we all become depressed at stages of our lives. Clinical depression is different then when a family member dies or you lose your job and have mouths to feed. Chemical imbalances can and do cause some people to have a condition that even medication can not help. Medication can sometimes help, but it takes time to get the right amount or the right medication. Going on and off medication is known to be dangerous in some cases.

Teenagers are often depressed and teenagers often worry about college, their future, and ofcourse, their family and friends. This is natural and we have all been there and worried about the same issues. To a teenager the world seem to be ending when it's really just beginning. We have all heard of cases where a young person has taken their life. Sad as it is.

Homicide
When a young person disappears it is usually not for long and the teenager is quickly found and returned. Most cases are kids that runaway and the police find them. In a sense, the police have a mind set that the missing teenager is a runaway because that's what happen most of the time. If you had an employee that didn't show up for work on time everyday and one day just didn't come to work and made no call you might think that employee did it again, and not killed in a car wreck on the way to work. In defense of the police - this is what they deal with on a daily basis. What has happened here to Brittanee is not normal after nine days and any police investigator worth his pay has identified that. This case does not have the hallmarks of a runaway and more likely a crime.

1. Mr. B or his associates.
Suspicious behavior and appears to have been cleared by Mrs. Drexel. I'm not sure how she knows this, but I'm gonna take her word for it for now. It seems that the police have informed her and Mr. B is off the hook for now. How he was cleared is a current mystery. I hope it is not based on the fact that Brittanee was seen leaving the building. That alone does not clear him in my mind. If Brittanee was cell phone triangulated far from the hotel and Mr. B was still triangulated in the vicinity of the building, that still does not clear him or his associates in my mind either. Brittanee's cell phone appears to be in the area 30 miles south of her last known whereabouts. Mr. B could leave his cell phone in the room and still leave the building and abduct Brittanee. The info that clears him needs to be based on more than just a video of Brittanee leaving the hotel. What that info is - it's unknown to us.

2. Unknown Abductor.
Assuming that Brittanee did leave the building and began a walk of more than twenty blocks - she could have ran into any  manner of criminal, street thug, or homeless person living in an alley. Questioning street people is a good place to start maybe someone knows something if Brittanee was indeed walking. And if she was walking, you would think she would have been video captured on a number of cameras.

There is always the possibility that Brittanee was walking and someone drove by and just grabbed her into a car. This does happen. This would of course be a crime of opportunity and not premeditation.

The Cell Phone
How could a cell phone ping underwater? (Assuming that the phone is in the river) The only thing I can think of is if the phone was in a Zip Lock plastic bag. When at the beach some people will put their camera, cell phone, cigarettes and matches in a plastic bag to naturally prevent them from getting wet. I'm not sure a teenager would or could consider that. But there is that possibility. I would think that water would act as a natural barrier and prevent the signal from being received, but phones today have more power and the ability to track for longer distances, so I guess there is a possibility that police have a technician that knows the ins and outs of cell signals and what can happen if one is underwater.

I don't see how Mr. B and his group could be ruled out already...has his/their cars been checked ? who left with him the night that he checked out? something is not right with him unless it is just such an unlucky coincidence that a girl that he is connected with comes up missing and he chose to leave at 2 a.m and leave his deposit and all...did the others stay at the room? lots of questions for me...

OK - there is it. Went missing sometime around 8:45 pm on Saturday the 25th, after being video captured leaving the hotel. On Sunday, the 26th, the following day, her phone was triangulated 30 miles south.

Could her body have washed 30 miles down river in one day? I guess that all depends on the river's current and water level.

Looking at this again - I think this is the whole key to the case. This quote seems to tell you there is a crime.

How did it get there - 30 miles away - on the same night?

She had no car. How did her phone get thirty miles away? I think this rules out floated on the river's current as she could not arrive thirty miles down stream in just one night. At least I don't think she could.

Either someone took her and her phone to this locale - or - she was separated from her phone and someone disposed of it in this area.

The waiting and wondering continues over Chili teenager Brittanee Drexel. It has been nine days since the 17-year-old was seen in Myrtle Beach.

On Friday, police went to an area 30 miles south of Myrtle Beach after they tracked her cell phone.

Drexel was last seen leaving a hotel where a group of guy friends were staying. She was supposed to walk back to her hotel 22 blocks away but never made it there.

Police did question the men Brittanee was visiting at that hotel but they say they are satisfied with their answers.

We will have the latest information on the search on www.whec.com and tonight on News 10NBC at 5 and 6 hear from Brittanee’s boyfriend, John Grieco.

Has it been reported that LE has talked to the girls she was with.
I'm just thinking out loud here what if the girls got so mad at her for not returning the shirt/shorts that they went to look for her and they found her and started to fight and something went terribly wrong.

I just hope they can find her on the camera's on her way back to her hotel and see if she made it back or can track her in between.

I don't understand how they could have all packed up their stuff, left Brittanee's stuff in the hotel and drove off towards home...I know that they are young, but wouldn't they have been a bit worried about her since she didn't come back to the room all night and did not answer her phone? what kind of friends do that to a friend?

also, if she was in the river, her cell phone would have gone immediately dead wouldn't it? My son accidentally dropped his into a glass of wine one night at dinner and it was fried right away..
maybe the purse with the phone in it was tossed along the river bank or on the road side? are the police searching the area with dogs and by foot?

Local authorities continued Sunday to search for missing 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel.

Officers had nothing new to report Sunday, said Capt. David Knipes of the Myrtle Beach Police Department.

Searchers spent Saturday looking for the missing New York teen in the area of the South Santee River in Georgetown County, but came up empty.

  "There will only be a handful of officers doing some final things associated with that search this morning," Knipes said Sunday.

The cell phone belonging to Drexel, who was last seen April 25 in the area near the Blue Water Resort in Myrtle Beach, gave off its last known signal the night of April 26 in the area around U.S. 17 and the South Santee River, authorities said.

Detectives ask that people who were in the areas between 11th Avenue South and 20th Avenue South along Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach between 8:45 and 9:15 p.m. April 25 call the Myrtle Beach Police Department at 918-1382 if they saw anything suspicious.

They seem to have narrowed it down to between 11th Ave.S. & 20th Ave.S. (Which is the location of Blue Water Resort)  Maybe they have some surveillance video that they're not making public. Approx 1818 Ocean Blvd is a Hampton Inn and across the street is a Best Western, not just Mom & Pop motels.  The Hampton Inn has a parking garage entrance facing Ocean Blvd.  I hope security footage is available.

That sounds possible to me.  Something is not sitting well with me in regards to her so called group of girl friends.  I would never leave the hotel if I knew we all were not accounted for, and surely would not leave her things in the room for housekeeping to take thinking it was abandoned belongings.  Who needs enemies with friends like that??

Rob the new video, with Kimberly Guilfoil  with her Mom and bio Dad, says that they have tracked the pings -6 miles- south of Myrtle Beach.  How did we get it was 30 miles? Probably because the possible bus sighting.

It's in all the media reports and there is a new report that has the distance as 22 blocks from the other hotel. I haven't been posting them all cause it's getting confusing and the police and searches were on the scene 30 miles away - there is another report that has the 35 miles away - and - 5 miles is a huge distance.

Interesting insight there Miss Kitty.  Now, what is the excuse of Mr. 2am Driver?  I want to know if each of her friends allibies check out, and I do not think that each other being one anothers allibies should suffice.  Something is up with those girls, either they know or they did something to her.  IMO

Whether 6 miles or 30 miles, that is still a huge distance for one person without a vehicle at her disposal to travel.  Traffic cameras should be able to catch much of this activity.

Grande has an ability to check areas for cameras. I have been checking HFTM for any posts on Brittanee from him and he is not posting on the case.

Grande found a camera on an interstate in the Brianna Denison case. That camera captured the vehicle of the suspect. But you're right - 6 to 30 miles at NIGHT is a huge distance for a little girl to travel with no car.

If Grande is good at this, then the road may not be equipped with the cameras.  To add, 6-30 miles is an awefully long way to travel without someone seeing her, or for her to do on foot at night.  At the most in that small time frame, maybe a mile to a mile and a half - no way an entire 6 miles unfathomable for 30 miles. 
It was Spring Break, so no way the streets were empty, they were more than likely littered with people enjoying their night life for SB.  Maybe not heavy traffic as a parade would bring, but a group of people every 30 to 40 yards is not uncommon.  Just thinking back to SB when I use to attend.  Guys often call out and say "Hey whats your name" or "Want to go to rave".  Just do not buy that no one saw her.

It has now been nine days now since a Gates-Chili High School student disappeared from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

There has been an all out search for Brittanee Drexel. And still no sign of the 17-year-old. She was in South Carolina on spring break.

Drexel's boyfriend, a 19-year-old from Chili, believes Brittanee has been abducted. John Grieco said, “It is not a runaway. I can tell you that right now.”

Grieco says he's known Brittanee for two-and-a half years and she would not runaway. “She could not drop her brother and sister, her grandfather. She knows her grandfather has a bad heart. She would not put her family through this.”

Grieco has been in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for the past week searching for his girlfriend. He was in Rochester when she disappeared and is back in Rochester for a day to take care of some business and he's headed back as soon as he can get a flight out.

Grieco has put college and his job on hold. “Even though every instinct is telling me she's not in Myrtle anymore. It's still a lot easier to walk the beach and hand out flyers than to sit at home and talk about it.”

Grieco was possibly the last person to communicate with Brittanee. Grieco sent her a text and she never responded. He broke the news to her family that she was in Myrtle Beach and missing. “Once I talked to her friends I found out that she walked back to her hotel alone and that was the last contact I had with her and that's when I knew something was wrong.”

Grieco says about eight people, mostly family members from Rochester, are in Myrtle Beach searching for the Gates-Chili High School junior.

He says they hand out flyers and talk to people everyday. Grieco is convinced Brittanee has been abducted and is no longer in Myrtle Beach. “My gut is telling me she's out there, she's alive and somebody has her and is doing horrible things to her.”

No matter what, Grieco says he won't give up. “Everything's been devoted to Brit, so I'm hoping this pays off.”

Grieco will be headed back to South Carolina with his father. He says Drexel's family is coping as best as possible. He says the support from Rochester is helping tremendously.

Officers, family members and a national organization are continuing to look for a New York girl who went missing April 27 in Myrtle Beach.

Carol Wagner said Monday her granddaughter, Brittanee Drexel, 17, has been dealing with depression for about the past year because her parents are divorcing, the family house is being sold and the teen learned she may have to switch high schools before her senior year.

``It has just been one thing after the other,'' said Wagner, who came to Myrtle Beach with her husband soon after learning of the disappearance. ``Brittanee keeps it all bottled up inside. Between the fights with her parents and school and a boyfriend, it probably just ate her up inside.

Missing Chili teen: new video released by police 
 
Police released new surveillance video Monday believed to be Brittanee Drexel.

It was taped the night the Chili teenager disappeared.
That was over nine days ago while the 17-year-old was in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for spring break. 


The video shows what investigators believe is Drexel walking down Ocean Boulevard.

Her boyfriend, just back from Myrtle Beach, spoke publicly for the first time with News 10NBC.

He believes Drexel was abducted.

"My gut is telling me she's out there. She's alive, and somebody has her and is doing horrible things to her," said John Grieco.

He last spoke to his girlfriend April 25th.

"The last text that I sent her, it had the sentence, 'You better be safe. I really miss you,'" recalled Grieco. "And she assured me that she was being safe, and now this is national news."

CNN's Nancy Grace picked up the story as Drexel's mother and Grieco have been in Myrtle Beach searching for any signs of the teen.

"I dropped school, I dropped work, I dropped my sanity," Grieco said. "Everything's really been devoted to Brit, so I'm hoping this pays off."

On Monday, the surveillance video was released by Myrtle Beach Police.

Investigators believe it shows Drexel walking along Ocean Boulevard at around 8:15 the night she disappeared.

A half hour later she was seen leaving the Blue Water Resort alone.

"No friend should ever let their other friend walk alone," said Grieco. "I was down there with a group of guys. We wouldn't let a single person walk towards the beach alone just because the area it was in."

News 10NBC also obtained photos of Drexel taken in Myrtle Beach.

They were posted on a Facebook page dedicated to finding her.

"Something happened that she has no control over the situation," said Grieco. 

He has two words for his girlfriend: stay strong.

"I'm going to put in every last bit of energy that I have to find her," said Grieco. "If that puts me in the grave I'll do it 'cause I want her back home."

Grieco will be heading back to South Carolina with his father to keep on searching for Drexel.

He says his instincts are telling him she's not in Myrtle Beach anymore, but says it's better being down there searching rather than being in Rochester talking about it.

Family and friends are holding out hope that a missing New York teenager is still alive and are continuing to plan for Brittanee Drexel's prom this weekend.

Carol Wagner took a few minutes Monday to speak to a business that is making her granddaughter's dress for the junior prom at Gates-Chili High School in Rochester, N.Y., on Saturday.

"It was for a fitting appointment for the dress," Wagner said from her hotel room in Myrtle Beach. "It's just, if we do find her, she'll be able to go to the prom. We bought everything for her. It's just ... you never think this would happen to your family."

Drexel, 17, was last seen on April 25 near the Blue Water Resort in Myrtle Beach. Several groups spent the weekend in Georgetown County near the South Santee River, where Drexel's cell phone last gave off a signal, police said.

Police did not receive any new leads to the girl's whereabouts on Monday, according to Capt. David Knipes, spokesman for the Myrtle Beach Police Department.

Wagner said she knew something was wrong when Drexel did not call her grandfather on his birthday, April 27.

"Brittanee used to call us every night to say good night until the last year," Wagner said. "I went to see her three times a week. She would always say, 'Grandma, can you take me shopping, can you take me to find a dress.' My husband would give the last dime out of his pocket for her."

Tara Friedman, a friend, said she talked to Drexel about three to four times a week for the past four years. Friedman said she did not know Drexel was coming to Myrtle Beach and said she didn't see a "big change" in Drexel's emotions in the last year.

"When I was her age, I was all stressed out, too," said Friedman, 19. "It's kind of a crazy time for a teenager. I remember going through it. I remember getting in fights with my parents and grandparents 'cause I was so stressed.

"But she was still having a lot of fun and was still smiling."

Drexel has played soccer for about 10 years and is one of the top players on her team in Rochester, Wagner said. She also was taking cosmetology classes in her hometown, Friedman said.

"She is a very fun-loving girl, always smiling," Friedman said. "She is very strong-minded, very independent."

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Could the case of a missing 17-year-old girl hurt Myrtle Beach's economy?

According to Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce president Brad Dean, the case does have the potential to hurt the economy, but right now he says it's too soon to tell.

"People are probably wondering if our children our safe," said Carnivale Motor Inn Manager Randy Thompkins.

Thompkins, who is also a father, says he understands how the Drexel case could hurt his business: "So far, it has not. We haven't noticed it here."

Thompkins told WMBF News a person can go missing anywhere, and before anyone should become nervous, they need to know the facts.

What happened to 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel is still under investigation.

"It doesn't scare me, only because if I was on the beach, I wouldn't be walking around by myself," said Liliana Glover, 18, who visited Ocean Boulevard Monday and saw the fliers for Drexel. "I don't think it's going to impact the people that come here. I think what it's going to impact is parent's decisions to let their kids come by themselves."

Thompkins added, "If someone else turns up missing, then I think we've got a problem."

It is horrible quality.  I hope someone else can get a better one.  It looks like there were many people/cars around.

Search resumes Wed for missing spring breaker; reward offered

Search crews on Wednesday will go door to door in Georgetown County trying to develop new leads in the case of the teenager who vanished while on spring break in Myrtle Beach.

Volunteers with out-of-state missing persons agencies will work with local law enforcement to re-canvass the area where the teen's cell phone last gave a signal.

It will be the 11th day since 17-year-old Brittanee Marie Drexel was seen leaving the Blue Water Resort on Ocean Boulevard.

Drexel disappeared around 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, April 25th, and according to Myrtle Beach Police, a signal from Drexel's phone was beamed to a tower near the Santee rivers in Georgetown County a few hours later. There was an additional signal beamed to the same tower on Sunday, but there has been no activity since.

For the better part of last week and weekend, crews searched a seven-mile radius around that tower but came up empty-handed.

Since then The Laura Recovery Center has joined forces with the CUE Center for Missing Persons, Myrtle Beach Police and Georgetown County Sheriff's Office.

In addition to knocking on doors in the area, volunteers from all of those agencies will research the areas and communities surrounding the Santee Rivers.

"We're just going to continue to scout the area for other possibilities," Monica Caison with the CUE Center in Wilmington said.

Meanwhile, Drexel's mother, Dawn, continues her efforts in Myrtle Beach to find her daughter.

"My heart is broken, I want my daughter to come home."

Dawn arrived in Myrtle Beach two days after her daughter was reported missing, and she hasn't stopped since.

"Day in and day out we look for Brittanee. Either we're passing out fliers or going to meetings or talking to the media. It's very exhausting. It's very tiring," Dawn said.

Despite the restless nights and long days, Dawn isn't giving in to her mental and physical exhaustion.

"We need to get that information out there. We need to find my baby, so we can bring her back home."

Police continue to investigate Brittanee's case as a missing person, and they are not ruling anything out -- including the possibility that Brittanee may have run away.

Dawn, however, says she knows better.

"The amount of pain it would cause ... she would not put anyone through this. ... I don't believe she ran away. I believe someone took her."

The Myrtle Beach Police Department has a tip line set up and asks anyone with information to call 843-918-1963.

Crimestoppers of the Lowcountry announced Tuesday night it's offering a reward of up to $1,000. Here's some information the organization released through a press release:

"The public is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers if they, or someone they know, have any information regarding the disappearance of Brittanee Drexel, or of any other crimes, by phone at 1-888-274-6372 (1-888-CRIME-SC), or on the web at www.5541111.com."

Just to comment on this particular portion of the above article. This is an abduction with the use of a vehicle. We now know that Brittanee was seen on at least one video and away from the hotel. That does seem to clear Mr. B. Although he does have a car and could have left the hotel and driven several blocks and encountered Brittanee. For all intensive purposes - Mr. B is seemingly cleared.

In order for Brittanee to have been several blocks from the boys hotel and then triangulated approximately 30 miles away with-in a few hours - there must be a vehicle involved.

Unfortunately, the term "several hours" is not time-stamp specific. It can only be 3 hours and 15 minutes at the max as she left the hotel at 8:45 and it's doubtful she was abducted until sometime after 9 pm if she was in the area indicated by the video. It's also possible that she needed longer to walk that distance.

Also, a seven mile radius is quite large and finding a cell phone in that area will be difficult. The best possibility is that someone just stumbles over it and alerts the authorities.

The case of a missing Gates-Chili student is getting more national attention. The father of Brittanee Drexel will be on the Dr. Phil show. The teen disappeared on spring break in Myrtle Beach. She's been missing now for a week and a half.

Chad Drexel says his next step is appealing to a national audience. News 10NBC spoke with Drexel by phone as he was getting on a plane to Los Angeles.

Drexel says he's scheduled to tape an appearance on the Dr. Phil show. The hour-long talk show airs weekdays on News 10NBC. Drexel says he may also appear live on the Today Show.

Brittanee Drexel disappeared last Saturday while she was in Myrtle Beach on spring break without her parents’ permission.

An extensive search of Myrtle Beach has turned up little. Now Chad Drexel says it's time to take the next step. “I need to get the word out and I feel that I need to step as her dad instead of just seeing her mom out there. I feel that I need to step up and be on TV and tell my side of the story on what I believe the thoughts were going through my daughter's mind.”

Drexel is hoping someone who was in Myrtle Beach and walking along that busy street at the same time as Brittanee, will remember something, anything that could help police find her.

Officials with Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry are offering up to $1,000 reward for information related to the disappearance of a 17-year-old New York girl missing from the Myrtle Beach area.

Brittanee Drexel was last seen on April 25 near the Blue Water Resort in Myrtle Beach. Several groups have searched in Georgetown County near the South Santee River, where Drexel's cell phone last gave off a signal, but have not found anything related to the girl, police said.

Anyone with information about Drexel or her disappearance can call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-274-6372 (1-888-CRIME-SC), or log on at www.5541111.com. Anonymous text tips can be sent by starting a new text message to CRIMES (274637), and mark the beginning of the message with "CSL".

Rob or anyone...so if her cell phone could be out in the terrain, could a  specially trained dog perhaps find it from her scent or would that probably be gone by now?

perhaps there is more than one person involved who forced her into the car...?

ITA - The way these high rise hotels are set up, most have parking decks at the street level, or are seperate parking decks.  Walking down the roads, you pass by these parking decks, that can be dark and isolated. Kinda creepy, as I have walked by alot of these types of hotels in the area, and felt that this would be the type of area that someone could easily snatch someone undetected and be gone.  All it takes is a "nice" looking guy offering a naive girl a ride or an invitation to a party.  Alot of these young girls don't need to be "forced" into a car, they get in on their own free will, and this would not call attention to anyone who may be a witness.

There are probably people who are witnesses who may not realize they saw something important.  The problem is, Brittanee looks like about every other girl there on Spring Break.

 I certainly hope there is survelance video in these parking decks.  In all probability, she could have just voluntarily gotten into a car and disapeared.

Dawn Drexel told FOX News that she is "not really satisfied" about the fact that authorities have ruled out involvement on the part of Peter Broswick and his male friends, whose Myrtle Beach hotel room Brittanee went to just before she disappeared the night of April 25.

"I'm going by what police officers are telling me, and they are going by what evidence they do have," Drexel said Wednesday. "Someone may have been watching her and may have abducted her."

Drexel thinks someone knows something about where her daughter is.

At about 8 p.m. on April 25, Brittanee left the Bar Harbor Hotel, where she was staying with some girl friends, to go to the nearby Blue Resort Hotel to see Broswick.

Surveillance camera footage captured 17-year-old Brittanee entering and leaving the Blue Resort lobby.

Hours later, at about 1 a.m., Broswick left Myrtle Beach to return home to Rochester. Authorities there and in Myrtle Beach have questioned him several times, but say is isn't a suspect.

Brittanee's mother finds it suspicious that he left the South Carolina resort town in the middle of the night, only hours after her daughter vanished.

Detectives believe Broswick may have been the last person to see Brittanee, a student at Gates-Chili High School in Rochester, alive.

The missing teen's boyfriend, John Grieco, said Brittanee had never told him about Broswick and his friends.

"She didn't make me aware of that because she was friends with them and she knew that I didn't necessarily like the fact that she was hanging out with a whole group of guys," Grieco told FOX News on Tuesday.

But he doesn't think the group of boys is involved in her disappearance, he added.

"I don't believe he had anything to do with Brittanee's disappearance," Grieco said. "I do believe there are people out there who know what happened to her."

Brittanee took the trip against her mom's wishes because she wanted the getaway, Drexel told FOX.

"She's 17," the girl's mother said. "She felt like she needed to get away for a little bit. She wanted to hang out with her friends. It really didn't matter [what I said]. Kids are not naive, but they don't know what's out there."

Drexel has said Brittanee suffers from depression and may have been upset because she and her husband are getting divorced. But she insists the girl would never run away.

"I know my daughter and she is not like that," Drexel told FOX. "She's not that type of person to leave her clothes behind. She is always done up and she is not going to stay in the same clothes for five days."

Brittanee has blue eyes and shoulder-length brown hair with blond highlights. She's 5 feet tall, weighs about 100 pounds and was last seen wearing a multi-colored shirt, black shorts and flip-flops.

Thank you all for the updates.  Reading the blogs of some of the younger people, they seem to feel Brittenee is a runaway.  One girl said "she is hiding"  another one said the Myrtle Beach area is a haven for young runaways and they take care of each other. 

Rob, I thought that she meant that to the police they are not persons of interest anymore?

I would like to know this guy's explanantion of why he left at 1 a.m. to go home...Was it to get home faster?  This would be a what - 14 hr or so drive?  Did he go alone?  When did he turn up somewhere else - or arrive at home?  Was there time unaccounted for?  I'd also like to know how many times this fellow has been to Myrtle.  Is this his first time there?  Would he have been there several times before and have knowledge of the area more so than just the beach area?

The place her last cell ping came from is headed south.  They say the last ping was a few hours after 8:45...making it 10:45-11:00?   Someone could travel the 30 miles in about - being generous, 45 mins. making it an approximate 1 1/2 hour round trip.

I have a hinky feeling about this guy leaving in the middle of the night. 

I really don't feel she is a runaway.  She had a boyfriend, and by his interview etc., it seems they were getting along good.  Girls that age are all about their boyfriends and I don't see here running away.  Seems to me if she was going to run anywhere, it would be home to her boyfriend.  Would she go this long without talking to him or texting?

The best outcome of this would be that she did run away and now with all the attention is scared to come forward.  I am afraid this is not the case.

I do not think she is a run away. She would have reached out to someone by now.  She can't reach out, because I think she met with foul play, and maybe at the hands of the group of guys she was with in MC.  More likely she was abducted on her way back from the second hotel. I don't think she is still alive.

I think the Mom has a strange way of communicating.  It could be from the stress of all this, but her thought patterns are incomplete in her statements.  I think that is what caused the conflict in her statements regarding the guys from Rochester.  I think she was saying that they are no longer persons of interest to the police.  What she didn't say is that she still has doubts in her mind regarding their involvement.     JMO

I would also like to know how long this "Broswick" fellow was supposed to be staying at the beach before he left.  Some have mentioned he left his deposit.  Was he supposed to stay the next week or was Sunday their last day there.  Usually, you make your reservations and put a deposit, but when you arrive you pay the rest of the amount for your stay.

Had he mentioned to any of the other boys he was staying with that he had plans to leave at 1:00 a.m?

Also about the cell phone pings.  I am sure this has been discussed in other cases, but I can't recall how exactly this works.  If I understand correctly, if your cell phone is on, every so often it sends a signal out - you don't necessarily have to make a call, it just automatically pings.  Is that correct?

So, with this in mind, someone could have just disposed of the cell phone and within the typical time, it pinged - It doesn't necessarily mean Brittanee was with her phone.

Gosh, I'd like to hear this Broswick's account. Is Broswick or any of his friends dating or involved with any of the girls Brittanee was with?

Also I hope they are looking at surveillance cameras inside hotels.

Most hotels have the same floor plan with a corridor with rooms on either side of it.  It is a very simple matter for someone to wait for a subject and just open the door and snatch her inside a room.  This is especially true with a small person as she is and a larger predator type.

Kids are warned about this in hotels and motels but it's just such an easy thing for a predator to do.  Hand over the mouth or around a person's neck so they can't scream and they are relatively easy to snatch into a room.  Do it quickly and close the door, within seconds a person can be taken.  I get the creeps sometimes just walking down the hall in hotels now that am overly aware of all the things that can be so easy to do.

So I hope they have looked at any inside films as well as along the sidewalks.

Search teams join forces to find missing teen

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Two non-profit search teams joined forces Tuesday in Georgetown County, mapping out a search plan for missing 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel.

The CUE Center for Missing Persons, based out of Wilmington, and the Laura Recovery Center, of Texas, are hoping a community-based search for Drexel will lead to her safe recovery.

The CUE Center has been in Georgetown since last week, helping the Myrtle Beach Police Department search in an area of land where Drexel's cell phone signal was last recorded.

"She has been missing for a week now, and this is out of her character," explained Monica Caison, founder of The CUE Center.  "She is from out of state, so she is in an area she is not familiar with."

Caison says she hopes her team will help get the teen back to her family - a place where many say she belongs.

The two search groups say their members plan to continue searching throughout the end of the week.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Brittanee Drexel or leads in this case is asked to call the Myrtle Beach Police Department or local law enforcement immediately.  CrimeStoppers of the Lowcountry has announced they will be offering a reward of up to $1,000 for anyone with information on the disappearance of Drexel.

Police and Crime Stopper officials hope a monetary reward and the ability to remain anonymous will prompt someone who knows about the disappearance of 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel to come forward and share the information.

A $1,000 reward is being offered from Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry for information related to Drexel, who was last seen on April 25 near the Blue Water Resort in Myrtle Beach, said Frank Morea, public information officer with the organization.

"We offered [police] whatever help we could give them. We can easily put that out there and we can take anonymous tips. We don’t want to know who they are, we only want their information and we give them a code number,’’ Morea said. "Somebody knows something. They may be afraid to talk. They may not want to talk or offer what they know. We offer a layer of protection that we don’t want to know who they are. I’m hopeful that will spur someone on to come forward.’’

No new information was available Wednesday in the search for Drexel, which included areas in Myrtle Beach and Georgetown County since she was last seen, Myrtle Beach police Capt. David Knipes said. Officials welcomed the offer of a reward and for tipsters to remain anonymous, but provide clues to Drexel’s whereabouts, he said.

"If it helps obviously it is a great thing,’’ Knipes said. "I hope that people aren’t just motivated by money to turn in information to us. But whatever avenues we can take to try to get this thing resolved we will.’’

Several groups along with police have searched an area of the South Santee River in Georgetown County, but have not found anything related to the girl, police said. A cell phone belonging to Drexel gave off its last known signal the night of April 26 in the area around U.S. 17 and the South Santee River, authorities said.

Less than 40 percent of rewards are claimed through the Crime Stoppers organization, Morea said. More often the organization is used by people who have information, but wish to remain anonymous.

"While the money can be an incentive, the anonymity is more of an incentive,’’ he said. "We get the information and it’s sent to the departments within 10 or 15 minutes of us receiving it so they can act quickly. If somebody knows something here is an avenue to tell us and remain anonymous.’’

Would be interesting to hear Mrs. Drexel's thoughts on her daughters friends just leaving and not bringing Brittanee's things with them.

To me, that just sounds so fishy!  Why would they not bring them?  What if Brittanee were to meet up with them at the new hotel?  Sounds to me like they already knew for sure that she would not need her belongings.

WHAM Tv is reporting the 20 year old is giving DNA .   Why would that be?

WHAM TV (WHAM.com) is calling Brittanee "the childlike teenagaer".

Maybe they found trace DNA evidence on her clothing?  Seems odd since nothing but clothing has been reported as recovered.

This teen has me very concerned.  I don't believe she is alive and would miss her Prom if she could help it.  So much reminds me of the Natalee Holloway disappearance as well. 

They may want DNA from the boy to compare with something they found in his car to see if it is his such as blood or bodily fluids of some sort.

Yes and her family there has been passing out fliers there as well.  I think people in the area where he lives are told to BOLO for her.

The search continues today in Georgetown County for any clues on the disappearance of a New York
teenager.
The search led investigators to Georgetown High School to speak with someone about the case.
The family of 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel
are being assisted by the Laura Recovery Center of Texas as they go door-to-door along Powell Road and other areas of North Santee talking to people in hopes of finding out anything about Drexel.
Drexel was last seen on April 25 near the Blue Water Resort in Myrtle Beach.
At about 11:30 this morning, five investigators visited Georgetown High School. Police will not comment on the nature of their visit but other sources told the Times they were speaking to a student who said he knows someone who was with Drexel during the weekend she vanished.
The investigators were with the student for about 30 minutes and then left the school.
It’s unknown what, if any, impact the information will have on the search.
For several days last week, the search shifted from Horry County to Georgetown County because the last trace of her cell phone was detected near the border with Charleston County.
The South Santee River and a seven mile surrounding stretch was searched but nothing was detected to indicate she was ever in the area, although authorities still say they believe her cell phone had been there because it had been detected on a cell tower.
Janice Liggett of the Laura Recovery Center said the team met with law enforcement Tuesday and are canvassing the area handing out fliers today.
“We have no reason to believe she ran away,” Liggett said.
She said if anyone would like to help with the search, they can go to the organization’s Web site — www.lrcs.org — and download fliers to hand out.
Myrtle  Beach Police say Drexel could be a runaway or they could possibly be dealing with an abduction case.

just saw the step dad on JVM....something about him......I thought the first time that I saw him on tv that he was cocky, for some reason I am not liking him...Not that he has anything to do with her missing, not saying that at all, don't know what it is.....

the mom must be a realist to say that she thinks that Brittanee is dead early on...she is probably right, however, I don't think that I could utter those words about my child till I had proof...but that is just me...not judging...just sayin....

Search crews hope their efforts Wednesday will develop new leads in the case of missing 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel.

Volunteers from out-of-state search agencies, as well as family and law enforcement went door to door handing out fliers. They scoured the neighborhoods surrounding the Santee River in Georgetown County. That's the area Brittanee Drexel's cell phone last gave a signal.

She was last seen leaving the Blue Water Resort on Ocean Boulevard on Saturday, April 25th. She was here from Rochester, NY on spring break.

Most of her family has arrived on the Grand Strand, and time is taking its toll. Alan Wagener is Brittanee's grandfather. We caught up with him as he helped with the search effort. "I just hope they find her. I just, Sunday morning I broke down. I held it in all week, and I'm just hoping they find her."

A candlelit vigil is scheduled for 7:00 Friday on the beach behind the Blue Water Resort at 2001 South Ocean Boulevard, Myrtle Beach.

"All we can say at this point is that the victim was a teenager, believed to be from Lenoir County," Hall said. "The body was found on the tracks, which is not usually where a body will come to rest after being struck by a train."

Good Afternoon Monkeys and Guest. I am in S.C. and I am familiar with the area around Myrtle Beach. Santee River is a huge place with many swamps that a body would never be found in. Aligators and snakes aplenty.

There is an update on the body found in N.C. and it gives the name of the body found. It is not Britanee.

I have a friend and her husband who are on the Myrtle Beach Fire Dept and they are taking part in the searches. Will update if I hear anything.

Where is Brittanee Drexel? She's been missing for almost two weeks and today the Webster man once questioned in the case was in our News 10NBC studio to tape a national interview.

The search for 17-year-old Drexel has now moved 30 miles south of Myrtle Beach to Georgetown County. That's where the teen's cell phone gave off its last signal.

Police say they are following up on every lead. They even went to a school in Georgetown to look for clues and ask the students questions about Drexel. She was last seen leaving a hotel in Myrtle Beach where Peter Brozowitz, 20 of Webster, was staying with friends.

In his taped interview Thursday afternoon, Brozowitz was concerned about clearing his name. He said, "The media twists everything that's going on. You weren't there. I was there with four other people and I'm the one that's singled out."

Brozowitz, with local lawyer John Parrinello by his side, said he has fully cooperated with the police investigation.

Dawn and Chad Drexel, Brittanee's mother and adoptive father, are in Los Angeles in the Dr. Phil studio and were part of this interview.

While Brozowitz was defending himself, Dr. Phil broke in and told him this is not about throwing Brozowitz under the bus, it's about helping these parents find their daughter.

Still, Brozowitz feels like he is being thrown under the bus. He said, "Of course I'm concerned about Brittanee, I mean that girl is a nice girl but when I was in the room with four other kids, they're all with me the whole night and then all of a sudden my name is mentioned as a person of interest when there is absolutely no evidence, my name is spelled wrong on the national news, my family is going through hell right now. People look at me differently walking down the street, you can just imagine how I feel."

Brozowitz said Drexel was not mad when she left the hotel, which surprised Brozowitz as she had just walked a mile to get to their hotel room.

At that time, Brittanee, Brozowitz and his friends, had just started watching the Yankees-Red Sox game on TV when she got a call from her friend, mad that Brittanee had her shorts.

Brozowitz said Brittanee did not seem all that mad about turning around and walking back to return them. He offered her a ride, but she said she'd be just fine. The strip didn't bother her and she had walked alone the past few nights.

Brozowitz said he was also questioned about why he and his friends checked out of the hotel at 2 a.m. Sunday. He said it's a along drive back to Rochester and all along they had planned to leave early and had even packed before they went out on Saturday night.

We also found out from this interview they did know each other before this trips, but Brozowitz said he did not know she was going to be in Myrtle Beach.

The Dr. Phil show airing on Monday is called Behind the Headlines: Mom's Worst Nightmares.

Maybe this kid is telling the truth?
If all of his friends left with him, why is he the one being singled out? And if the guys had to be back at school or work on Monday, it might make sense that they left when they did? dunno...

My gutt tells me that this kid has done nothing wrong.  I buy the story of leaving early to return home for school.  I have been with groups of people who have left the deposit on more than one occassion.  I know you are all wondering why, but when its Spring Break and you are with a group of friends partying and getting wasted, things tend to get messy....99.9% of the time the deposit is never returned when you turn in the room key, and if it is they put it back on your card, so there is no need to be there in the first place.  Its way more common than you would think.

My suspicions are still with her group of girl friends, something is off about them.  Either they are in on this or they are one really messed up group of individuals without a sense of what true friendship really means. 

I think that the likelyhood of her being abducted by a random individual with a sick and twisted mind is very likely.  I just do not see it being this boy.

Dolce,,,,I agree about Peter...and about them leaving when they did and about the deposit..many times hubby and I don't do the actual check out thing...we just leave...the deposit is usually put on a card so that if you use anything from the mini bar or rent movies etc...they either charge appropriately or they put it back on the card as you stated...
and I agree that it was probably a local...as Rob had said earlier as well..

And to add, many hotels, especially those within tourist-driven locations such as Florida, it says in the fine print when you sign upon check-in that your deposit can be held for up to 5 business days after check out.  Why you may ask?  Well some people make a lifestyle out of taking towels, blankets, lamps, wall art, robes, mini bar stock and stocked toilet paper and tissue from these places....why not there are no surveylance camera's in the room, many people feel they paid for it with the room.  (Some hotels factor that into the room cost, some do not)  Any way, what I am saying is when I was in college, we would always leave without getting the deposit.  If it showed up on our CC days later, then whoohoo, otherwise chalked it up to the mess we left!

I would like to see a few more comments from the 'girl friends" that in their facebook postings call them selves "the bitches 09" have to say for returning home without their friend that they gave a ride to  MB.  Did they expect her to walk home?  Why no comments from them, and why does the "bitch" post pictures of Brittanee, and not post her name to them?  They are slime buckets! 

I agree.  I was giving the friends the benefit of the doubt, but seeing the pictures, I think they may have named themselves appropriately.  JMO, but I think they seem rather catty with each other even...
I don't know how they could have left B there without searching for her, and also leaving all her stuff in the room.  I just don't understand any of that. 

This is the exact reason her mother didn't want her to go.  How sad.  I hope she is found soon...and safe!

MYRTLE BEACH Police visited Georgetown High School on Wednesday in the continuing search for a missing New York teen, a day after a reward was offered for information about the girl.

Police and Crime Stopper officials hope a reward and the ability to remain anonymous will prompt someone who knows about the disappearance of 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel to come forward and share the information.

A $1,000 reward is being offered from Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry for information related to Drexel, who was last seen April 25 near the Blue Water Resort in Myrtle Beach, said Frank Morea, spokesman for the organization.

Meanwhile, police confirmed that they visited the school in Georgetown in connection with the case but offered few details.

A cell phone belonging to Drexel gave off its last known signal the night of April 26 in the area around U.S. 17 and the South Santee River, authorities said.

I agree that the girls need to be looked into further.
Does anyone know who's name the room was under of the girls? My thought is if it was under Brittanee's then the girls could have left thinking that they would not be linked to her. They just seem so have this who cares attitude about them.
What time did the girls leave?

I am not sure of the answers to your questions, but I do know that Brittanee is only 17, so she would be too young to rent a room in her name, I believe you have to be atleast 18 if I am not mistaken.

Peter stated that Brittanee left after receiving a call from one of the girls upset that she had her shorts, so upset that is the reason why Brittanee had left....seriously who does that?

Well, It makes sense that the boys all left at the same time, wanting to get home - it is a long ride.

It seems to me that the "friends" she stayed with weren't much of a friend to her.  I would like to know more about this group of friends.  Did they always hang out together?  Could they have possibly been jealous of her?  Did one of them like this Peter fellow?

Girls this age can be really horrible to each other.  Best friends one minute and enemies the next.  Also, age and judgement seem to be far removed from each other.

I am leaning towards a stranger abduction.  Possibly someone she may have met before, offering a ride, or maybe a "nice" looking guy offering her a ride.

I wish girls would realize the dangers that are out there.  At that age, I didn't think of it either.

My hope is that someone will realize they may have information that they didn;'t think important and break this case wide open.

Search efforts for 17-year-old New York girl last seen April 25 in Myrtle Beach expanded to Charleston County on Friday, officials said.

Police and searchers with some volunteer agencies are now searching areas in Georgetown and Charleston counties for clues about Brittanee Drexel, who was last seen after she left her traveling companions to visit people at another hotel.

Searchers with Texas-based Laura’s Recovery Center are in the area working with local officials to check the area, but since the area has unique terrain and wild animals such as alligators, boars and snakes the search is unique, said Bob Walcutt, executive director, Laura’s Recovery Center.

``Normally we have emergent volunteers, searchers from the street who help, but in this case we are relying more on search and rescue teams who are prepared to get out in that environment,’’ Walcutt said.

Myrtle Beach police Capt. David Knipes said there was no new information Friday morning on Drexel’s disappearance or clues to her whereabouts. Police have logged more than 200 tips about her, he said.

``They’ve expanded the search area from Georgetown County and are doing some searches in Charleston County. I don’t think there’s anything new to go on, they’re just expanding the area,’’ Knipes said. ``We’re continuing to track down leads and tips, and we’re following up on each and every one of them.’’

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Searchers are combing another coastal South Carolina county for a New York teen who went missing nearly two weeks ago in Myrtle Beach.

Officers on Friday were searching in Charleston County for 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel.

Drexel was reported missing April 26, a day after police say she was last seen after leaving a group of friends. The group had traveled from Rochester, N.Y.

Last week, investigators searched Georgetown County, where Drexel's cell phone last gave off a signal. It also gave off a signal in Charleston County.

Drexel may have been depressed because her mother and stepfather were going through a divorce, her mother said.

I'm sorry would someone mind clarifying... did she leave the group of boys to go visit the group girls in the other hotel? I think I may have misunderstood the details and I find myself confused  ::MonkeyConfused::

ABSOLUTELY STARTLING INFORMATION.

The police have know this for at least 8 days and it seem to have just filtered out.

When looking at Brittanee's cell tower triangulation - you see the whole record unless the cell phone was recently turned on - or - recently recharged.

It's quite apparent that the cell is not in Georgetown county. But where is Brittanee? It's possible that she is in that vicinity of the seven mile radius as described or it's also possible that she is much further south.

I must wonder if the lead that took them to the high school took them further south. The cell phone can take the investigation further south on it's own.

And for the record - I think Brittanee could still be alive. Nothing so far tells me she's dead other than the odds.

I would like to correct myself...

I always hope that authorities find the person alive and well.

I am leaning toward stranger abduction as well in part because of the cell phone being tracked to so far out of the resort area south of town.  The boy named Peter who left in the middle of the night would be my second choice for person of interest but if the other boys rode back with him, he might be in the clear odd as his own behavior was.

I just re-read pages 1-7 whew! Ok so she leaves the girls, goes to the hotel room where the boys are staying. is there video of her  leaving? Surely there would have to be.
also, what about the man in the elevator that was molesting young girls? Does anyone know if he was seen entering the hotel?

This doesn't seem like it would be that difficult to solve this. Hotels have video cameras everywhere, including elevators. Am I missing something?

If they are picking up a signal that far south she must have been abducted.  She wouldn't take off that far without taking her clothes/belongings.  No girl will take off without a change of clothes and makeup/shampoo/money.  If they had known of this distance 8 days ago, surely they would have gone further south, not just now leak the info.

The search for 17-year-old missing Brittanee Drexel continues in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina as the investigation into her disappearance nears two weeks. And while authorities trace each lead, Brittanee's mother and adoptive father prepare for an episode of "Dr. Phil" and the last person known to have seen her alive, Peter Brozowitz, agreed to an interview with WHEC in Rochester, New York.

Investigators this past week were led 30 miles south of Myrtle Beach, where Brittanee Drexel had gone without permission with friends on Spring Break, attempting to find clues to the missing teen's whereabouts by searching the area where the last known signal from her cellphone originated. They also went to a nearby high school in Georgetown, tracking down a lead.

But in her hometown, Peter Brozowitz told WHEC that he was tired of being singled out as the bad guy. He said that he and four other guys were in the hotel room when Brittanee Drexel showed up Saturday night, April 25. "Of course I'm concerned about Brittanee," he said, "I mean that girl is a nice girl but when I was in the room with four other kids, they're all with me the whole night and then all of a sudden my name is mentioned as a person of interest when there is absolutely no evidence..."

She wasn't there long, he recalled, because she got a call from one of her friends who was a little mad at her for wearing her shorts, so she headed back to her hotel room. Peter Brozowitz said that he was surprised that she didn't seem mad that she had to go back because she had just walked a mile to his hotel room.

He said he offered her a ride but she refused, saying she had walked it before.

Brozowitz also explained why he left Myrtle Beach so early Sunday morning. He said that he and his friends had decided to leave early all along because the trip to Rochester was such a long one.

He came home and found out he was a "person of interest" in Brittanee Drexel's missing person case.

Candlelight vigil held for missing teen, dozens of strangers turn out

Sunday morning, the largest search in 13 days will take place for a missing New York teen who was last seen in the heart of Myrtle Beach.

People have been searching by foot, door to door, endlessly looking for any leads, but no sign of Brittanee.

Friday night, with searching still going on, family, friends and even those who've never even met the teen gathered to just pray for Brittanee's safe return.

There were all sorts of emotions at Friday's candlelight vigil. Sad emotions - considering Brittanee is still missing - but there were also good emotions in the form of appreciation for the dozens of strangers who turned out to support the family.

Perfect strangers were singing crying and praying with the Drexel family. People came out with shirts and signs with messages for Brittanee and for a mother and father who are left to wonder about their daughter.

"I'm so overwhelmed," said Brittanee's great aunt, "By the outpouring of kindness in the community here, between Myrtle Beach and Georgetown. It truly shows you there's good people out there."

A teary eyed Dawn Drexel agreed. "People are wonderful," said Brittanee's mother, "They care about what happens, they care about what goes on in the world."

Louis D'Emilil, who had never met the Drexel family until Friday night but wanted to show her support, looked to a higher power.

"With the power of prayer, we feel that anything can happen, and that anything is possible," said D'Emilil.

Brittanee's father told NewsChannel 15 that giving up is not an option. He had a message for his daughter: "We love you Brittanee, we miss you, and we'll never stop looking for you," he said.

The vigil was held at The Blue Water Resort, which was the last place that Brittanee Drexel was seen nearly 2 weeks ago.

She visited a few friends there on Saturday night, April 25th, and has not been seen since.

Great to see Grande is taking an interest in this.  I know it's not likely he could do it again but wouldn't that be wonderful if he could actually spot something, etc.  Sort of like lightening striking twice in the same place but it does happen.

I just hope one of these leads turns out to be the one to bring her home to her family. 

Does anyone know when her Prom was to be held?  I have kept hoping that if she can at all, she would want to be home for that.  But the more time that passes, the more I believe she can't and is not in control of anything any more.

Spring break is becoming a horror instead of a rite of passage!

Good Morning Monkeys and Guest!

I got an update from my friend this am and nothing really new except that her phone pinged in Charleston County and that area is being searched.

I was in the Santee area yesterday putting flowers on my grandmothers grave and visiting family. I have a few pics of the terrain in the area. Not sure where to post them if anyone is interested in seeing them.

When my kids went on Spring Break an Adult had to make room arrangements and were held accountable for any damage done. That has been about 15 yrs ago so things have changed I am sure. But I do know for a fact it is not safe for a girl to be walking on the strip alone at night.

I am going to try to post one pic. If it comes up huge will someone please fix it. To all city dwellers this is what low country S.C. looks like. Very scary terrain.

Maybe it's just me, but I think Brittanee is still alive. I don't usually get these type of thoughts in these cases, but for some reason I don't see anything that says she's dead.

I also realize that could just be wishful thinking on my part, but this is the one in a thousand where I think the missing person is actually alive.

No evidence of a crime in the boy's hotel room and Brittanee later video captured walking.

Cell phone triangulated to Georgetown County on the night she went missing and also the following morning.

Cell phone (later) triangulated to Charleston County (and although we don't know when this signal was received it seems odd that the phone was not in use in the Georgetown County triangulation and then no more signals and now there is an additional signal) and heading south.

Now, criminals aren't criminals because they're the smartest people on the planet, but to take the cell phone of the missing person where ever you go is just downright stoopid.

I'm not suggesting that Brittanee and her cell phone are in the same locale currently and I'm not a huge fan of cell triangulation as it can lead you all over the place as proven in Caylee's case, but with Brittanee missing and the signals received so soon after, this is currently the best option for locating her in my opinion.

Also, no sign of a deceased Brittanee in the river and that's a goods sign too.

Don't get me wrong - I'm sure this is an abduction and everything points to exactly that, and not a runaway.

I have been reading this forum for over a week now waiting on my account to be activated and I think you all are doing an excellent job.  This is a very sad case, her prom was tonight.  They do not have a lot to go on and I think police will have to back off soon.  If anyone has any information I am offering monetary value.  Thanks to all.

Pastor offers reward for information on Chili teen

Saturday marks two weeks since a Chili teen was last seen in Myrtle Beach.

Police are now concentrating their search for Brittanee Drexel in a forest in Charleston County, South Carolina about 65 miles south of Myrtle Beach.

We found out today, that an Albany pastor is raising the reward to find the 17-year-old. Pastor Charlie Muller raised the reward to $11,000 for any information that will help find Drexel.

Thursday, Peter Brozowitz, one of the teens to last see Brittanee, and his lawyer John Parinello were in our studios to tape an episode of "the Dr. Phil Show". The show is called "Behind the headlines: mom's worst nightmares."

Search crews with Community United Effort or CUE for missing persons called off the search for missing New York teen Brittanee Drexel at 7pm Saturday.

Monica Caison with the organization says crews were out looking for Brittanee for eleven days, but the search for her will continue with investigators.

“You have to look at every search as a success, you’re eliminating more space where she’s not so you’re not questioning where she could be and that’s all you can do,“ said Caison.

The latest search moved from Georgetown County to Charleston County, at Thornhill Farm, which is south of the Santee River.

Crews used helicopters, horses and canines to cover the area as much as possible but still no clues. Crews had one more road to stretch their search onto late Saturday evening.

“You have to think about the worst case scenario which we don’t want to think about but you know it’s reality, I’m just hoping that you know she comes home soon, I don’t want to wait,“ said Brittanee’s mother, Dawn Drexel who was joined by several family members and close friends at Thornhill Farm.

Brittanee’s family earlier on Saturday handed out business cards to everyone in the community even to bikers riding toward Georgetown.

“Everybody is just so upset because we know this isn’t like Brittanee she wouldn’t hurt her family like that,” said Brittanee’s mother.

Anyone with information on Brittanee Drexel’s whereabouts is asked to call the Myrtle Beach Police Department at 918-1300.

I am saddened that the search is being scaled back.  It is understandable, but still.

A major problem I see with this case is the fact that the great majority of people in the area when Brittanee went missing were tourists themselves, probably gone home by now, not realizing that they may have seen something that is important in finding Brittanee.  Of course they are keeping the story locally, but I wish it would get more national coverage.  Perhaps someone who was there would realize they have information.

I have to believe there were witnesses, someone saw something.  It may not have been suspicious at first - perhaps they saw her get into a car, or talk with someone. 

I would like to know if the girls she was with have given any indication that she met someone while they were there, or talked of anyone she met.  Were these girls with her the whole time, or did Brittanee go places by herself alot?

So many questions, so few answers.

I live right outside Myrtle Beach and I did watch the Dr. Phil Show this morning. I have to say that Peter is not showing any concern for Brittanee's well being at all. Dr. Phil pointed this out during the show, Peter is more concerned with the finger pointing at him. He did say that he submitted a DNA sample to Myrtle Beach PD recently.

At one point Peter says she received the call from her friend Jen about returning the shorts and he and the other guys in the room watched her leave. Then later he said that he offered her a ride. She was thought to have walked the one mile journey to where Jen's motel was from the location she was at when getting the call.

I don't get good vibes from this guy Peter, reminds me of another local case since solved. Crystal Todd. She went missing from her car she was last known to be with a guy she was associated with and he ended up being the one that killed her. He was very supportive of Crystal's well being while it was all going on and so forth and then the truth came out. I believe he submitted DNA also.

As far as the cell phone information being tracked to the Charleston area, would that definately mean that she or her cell phone was in that area? I am not sure how the signal tower info works.

Brittanee Drexel makes national headlines today on Dr. Phil
 
It's been 15 days and there is still no sign of Brittanee Drexel. After more than two weeks of searching, police in Myrtle Beach say they will not send out any more search crews to look for Drexel.

The 17-year-old Gates-Chili junior disappeared on April 25 and hasn't been seen or heard from since. Police say they are still investigating this case they won't send out boats, helicopters or search teams unless they get a promising lead.

This story has made national headlines and today it's the focus of The Dr. Phil Show. It's called Behind the Headlines: Mom's Worst Nightmares and airs today at 3 p.m. on News 10NBC.

Last week, a 20-year-old named Peter Brozowitz from Webster and his lawyer John Parrinello came to our studio to tape an interview with talk show host Dr. Phil. Brozowitz was one of the last people to be with Brittanee in Myrtle Beach at his hotel before she went missing. Brittanee's adoptive father and mother also appear on the show.

Now that the search has been called off Brittanee's mother, Dawn Drexel plans to leave Myrtle Beach to come home for her other daughter's birthday. She plans on holding a candlelight vigil for Brittanee.
 

I am not sure if they have any info at this point that they would be holding back. I do know that they do hold back when necessary.

I am unclear on something to do with Brittanee, did they get a video tape of her being somewhere here in the Myrtle Beach Area , I thought I heard this on the show? This would be the first thing to establish, that she did in fact come to Myrtle Beach. It is just something that crossed my mind as I started to watch Peter's body language during the interview.

During the show this morning, Brittanee's father seems to think she has ran away and is scared to come home, while the mother believes her daughter is kidnapped and being held or possibly deceased.

I find it funny that Peter and the other guys say they originally planned to leave at 5 or 6am on Sunday morning, but since they were already prepacked before the party they went to they decided to leave at 2am.

It is always possible to take a person without anyone seeing anything.  Check hotel corridor for security camera and disable if found.  Wait for victim to walk down hallway, open door, look both ways to be sure no one is around and cover mouth and drag into your room.  Close door.  Apply chloroform.

No one would see anything.  Just be sure you select somebody you can easily overpower such as this very petite little girl.  Have something to sedate or keep her quite right at hand so no struggle necessary.  Have cable ties or whatever also on hand and luggage large enough to just roll her right out of the hotel lobby without arousing suspicion.

Unfortunately, it can be done.  People are taken right in a crowd.  Always walk down the middle of a corridor of doors as in hotel in the center of the hallway.  At least they have further to drag you than if you are right up against their door.

I am greatly saddened that the search is scaled back but apparenty they feel they have searched all the likely places.  It is going to take a local making a discovery now if she is to be found I do believe. 

Can she still be alive?  If so, I think she is being held against her will as she would have wanted to attend her Prom and had big plans for that.

And I also hope LE is backing off in hope that someone will get careless and make a mistake if they think no one is watching allowing them to find her. 

The video did show her leaving the hotel where Peter and the other three or four guys were.  If not for that. . . . .

But did they all stay together all everning until they left?  Was any one of them away from the group at any time?

LE probably know the answer to that but I have to wonder.  Are they the only alibi for each other?

I haven't searched for her friend's myspace, but during a search on google with Brittanee's name, I came across a myspace account made for her, supposedly not by her family or anyone who really knows her.

This is what I would like to know as well.  Something about these guys and Britanee's friends just doesn't settle well with me.

There is a picture of a Phil Oberer, and Jennifer Oberer.  I am assuming they are brother and sister.    Did this brother drive down with the girls? 

On the Dr. Phil website it shows a bit of the show.  He looks damn cocky to me! 

Thanks Kimmy53 for the welcome. Yes, I did watch his body language during the show, he had this movement about him, his head would tilt, almost like the one disease where they call it a tick. He is not concerned for Brittanee in any way, no matter what he says. If so he and his buddy's would have been searching the beach for her.

I just searched for her friend on my space and found two under the name Jennifer Oberer. One says Chili, NY age 20 with no activity since Jan. and the other had activity today or yesterday with her location as North Carolina. The pics look the same between the two.

I have a question and I might have missed this already being discussed.  On Jennifer's facebook pages, there are pictures of Brittanne but her name isn't listed.  Doesn't anyone else find this strange or suspicious?  If they were friends why wouldn't she be listed?  Why post the pictures of her if your not going to list her name?

Thank you AZ - I will have to watch when I get home.  I'd like to hear from the other boys as well.  And, I'd love to hear from the girls who were with her.

Could Jennifer perhaps be in college in NC?  thus the 2 different locations?  Most colleges are out for summer now, and she would be back in NY for the summer?  Wish we knew.   I'd also like to know the ages of the other girls...were they friends from school?  If Jennifer is 20, that makes her graduating 2 years ago.  I'd like to know where they all knew each other from.  Did Brittanee hang out with an older crowd?

Peter may indeed have a nervous tick.  The thing about them leaving at 2 a.m. just makes me go hmmmmmmmm.  Maybe they do have  good excuse, It just seems like an odd coincedence.

I'm having a difficult time keeping facts from speculation in this case for some reason.  ::MonkeyConfused::

IIRC, Brittanee has her nose pierced, do we know if she has any tatoos or other piercings?

Also, if she is 17, how did she get into Club Kryptonite?  Fake ID?

They are easily obtainable around here. I am not sure if it was confirmed she was in there.

We are not much further along today.  Everyone just chipping in offering their own opinions.  One thing I can say is the girls that she went with were just acquaintances and this is sadly where I believe Brittanee made her biggest mistake.  It is known that on a few nights of the trip they went off and did their own thing and Brittanee did hers. 

I will give my opinion on Peter, I do not believe he had anything to do with it.  While he is arrogant and has a border line prominent background, I think once he saw his name on the news he just got an attorney to salvage as much as his reputation as he could.

The family is trying to develop a new game plan.  I am interested in a P.I. but I am not sure how effective it will at this point especially with the assumption Peter is innocent. 

We must continue to spread the word on the reward which will be increasing soon.

Drexel’s mother, Dawn Drexel, and stepfather, Chad Drexel, appeared on the Dr. Phil show last week to plead for their daughter’s return.

“It’s seems to me that someone took Brittanee. Either she got in the car willingly or may have met somebody here that maybe she trusted that she was hanging out with since that Wednesday when she came down to South Carolina,” Dawn Drexel told Dr. Phil.

“I don’t feel that Brittanee got hurt, I just have a gut feeling as her dad that she’s run somewhere,” Chad Drexel said.

Dr. Phil asked Chad Drexel if he knew Brittanee was going to Myrtle Beach and he said no.

“I thought she was home with my ex-wife,” Chad Drexel said.

The Drexels also confronted Peter Brozowitz, who was reportedly the last person to see Brittanee before her disappearance, on the show.

“I know just as much as the media, and like I said the media twisted everything that’s going on, and you weren’t there,,” Brozowitz said.  I was there with four other people and I’m the one that is singled out.”

Brozowitz appeared on the show with his attorney, John Parrinello, who told Dr. Phil that Brozowitz talked Brittanee Drexel into staying before she decided to leave the Bluewater Hotel where she met Brozowitz and few of his friends.

“Peter submitted a DNA sample at the request of Myrtle Beach (police) and there is no possible way that Peter Brozowitz had anything to do with Brittanee’s disappearance,” Parrinello said.

Dawn Drexel told Dr. Phil she’d spoken with Brozowitz the day her daughter went missing, but said he gave her three different scenarios, and that’s why she said her family thought that Brozowitz may know something.

“Any kind of a friend — I don’t care if you’re a guy or a girl — if you knew that Brittanee was walking that far from one hotel to the other if you’re a gentleman, then why wouldn’t you walk my daughter to her hotel or drive her there knowing it was dark out that night?” Dawn Drexel asked Brozowitz via satellite.

“I’m on spring break. I’m not there to babysit anybody and I don’t know Brittanee like that,” Brozowitz replied.

“It just doesn’t look right. It’s fishy,” Dawn Drexel said.

Just an FYI that is her STEP DAD not her BIO dad.  The Bio dad doesn't believe she ran away. 

I think that Peter was very cocky and very full of himself..He is a very cute kid.......jmo...I about dropped my jaw when he said something to the effect that the media doesn't even spell his name right...well boo fricking hoo....Brittanee is missing, I think that is a bigger thing to worry about than how your darn name is spelled!
that being said about him...I don't think that he had anything to do with Brittanee's disappearance..I felt that when Dawn said to him something like, him being a gentleman <<not the exact words...that he should have offered to drive her back to her hotel or walked her back...I kindof knew what she meant, but like he said, he was there on spring break...not there to babysit anyone etc..etc....rude, but possibly true for a boy of his age to think?
they did not go down there together, they were not dating etc...hindsight, I am sure that he wishes that he would have gotten up and taken her back..Do we know if Brittanee just dropped over there while they were watching a game on tv or was she invited? he and some of the other guys might have had their own plans and didn't want to be bothered by taking her back to her hotel.....the other boys there or her "girlfriends" could have offered to take her back/pick her up as well....these kids are young and immature and none of them at that age think that anything is going to happen to them...now he has all this guilt put on him of what he should have done differently....why is he the only one being singled out? because he knew her from Rochester? that wouldn't have stopped one of the other guys from doing something to her...were they all together for the entire evening? have they all been questioned?  did one of them leave shortly after she did and caught up with her? what about her girlfriends and their acquaintances that they made in MB while on Spring break?

just my thoughts....I did not particularly like this Peter at all...but like I said I don't think that he is guilty of her disappearance..

While it is true that Peter's name is the only one of the guys being mentioned, who are the others? Were they from NY or not? The only girl we have heard about is Jen aside from Brittanee, so what about the others and what are their names.

Very good point.  Who else was there?  I asked earlier about Jen's brother, or at least a guy with the same last name. Did he spend any time with Brittanee?  Who did she hang with all week?   

This part is very interesting to me, and may explain some of Peter boys defensiveness.   He is NOT off the hook yet, and with his cockiness, he sure as hell isn't off the hook with me. 


From the Myrtle Beach Police Department, as posted on the Dr. Phil show:

“At this point in the investigation, we continue to devote our utmost attention to this case in hopes of a timely conclusion. While we have not named any persons of interest or suspects, we have not ruled anyone out. It would not be feasible on our part to do this, because we don’t know what happened.”

I don't think the boy had anything to do with this either. Does anyone know who the man was that was molesting woman/girls in the elevators in local hotels that day? Was he investigated? Seems to me it would be interesting to  know who that was.

I don't think it is ever a good move for a member of family or friends to suggest the missing person is a runaway.  She is still missing.  Even situations which start out as running away can quickly get out of hand for a girl so young and alone.  They fall victim to crime far too often to try to make a difference like that.

It would be a terrible shock and hard to imagine her as deceased but the more time that passes, I think this is what has happened because I was sure if she could she would have made it back for her Prom.

I agree that a family member should never suggest that a child is a runaway...if the parents think that or are  suggesting that as a possibility, why  would LE take it seriously that the child has been abducted? why would the public bother looking for her as hard as they would if she was abducted?

In most teen disappearances , the police are usually thinking that the teen ran away and won't give much consideration to a search. Although this happens with local disappearances, Brittanee is not a local.

The step dad stated that he was the disciplinary with Britanee, but she was living with her mother.

What is interesting is she made contact with her mother and acted as if she was still in NY.


They have Britanee on video leaving the motel, I wonder if they viewed it further to see if any of the guys in the room left after she did?

I was wondering when Brittanee first left her mother's home...Dawn stated that B was really upset about not being able to go to spring break so she needed to "get away" ...so I believe that she told her mom that she was going to stay at someone else's house? I know that hindsight is 20/20 and from what Dawn stated she had never had a problem with B before...It has been a while since I had teenagers, but do parents let kids go elsewhere to "get away" with friends like that? and for how long? Do they check with the other kid's family to make sure that it is ok if your child "gets away" at their house for a few days? should it have been a red flag that B wanted to "get away" at precisely the same time that spring break was? how did B hookup with the kids that she went on spring break with if she barely knew them...<from what I have read....why was the girl so pissy about B having borrowed her shorts that B felt that she needed to leave right away to return the shorts? does anyone get that mad over someone borrowing their shorts or would you be mad but find something else to wear? unless she really didn't like B that much to begin with? jealousy?
I know that B made it sound like to her mom that she was still in her area....When did she go to MB? what would B have done if Mom had insisted by phone that she come home still thinking that B was closer to home and not on spring break?
 I am really glad that I am not raising teenagers in this day and age...it can not be an easy job....
I just have a bunch of questions on this case....but no matter how any of these questions would be answered, does not give anyone the right to take this girl and do anything harmful to her. our streets need to be safer for a woman/girl, young child to walk alone and not have the threat of being kidnapped....

I noticed how calm she was too, I'm not sure if she is trying to keep it together for the camera and be strong or if it is something else.

I am starting at page 1 on this topic and reading all the articles posted.

I did find out that the family friend is a man who is a marine stationed at Camp Lejeune. John Hahn. He is the one that filed the report at the request of Brittanee's mom.

It seems that Brittanee was staying with the girls , which is the hotel she was on her way to when she disappeared. Some guy by the last name Anthony is one of the guys in the hotel that she was visiting. I will find the article and paste it .

I kinda wonder whether the girls she was staying with were really "friends" or were they just girls she knew who let her crash at their motel room.  Maybe they just gave her a ride for the most part. Friends wouldn't just pack up and leave....did they try to call her or text her?

I am interested in who was the "friend from Camp Lejeune" who reported her missing at 5 a.m.  Doesn't sound like the friends she was with, or do ya'll think so?

The truth lies with those girl friends.  Peter is just your typical cocky guy who does not care about anything other than himself and where he is gonna get his next beer.  (These types of guys are all over the campuses, do not be surprised by them...its more common than you would think.)
If Brittanee ran away, then the girl is Houdini.....

She must have known them on some level to have barrowed their clothing, like the pair of shorts, and to be photographed with them as seen on Facebook. Although in the photos it apears that Brittanee is always trying to make it in the picture, while other girls are the ones that the camera is focussed on.....maybe she was the "3rd Wheel".

I thought that the step dad was a bit snotty about Dawn when he was first interviewed, ....kindof blaming in a way...can't remember his exact words....I realize that they are going through a divorce...He seemed a bit controlling to me...dunno....

If the step father is thinking that she ran away, I am most curious as to what reason she would have to want to leave her family, friends, and boyfriend?  According to her mother life at home seems to be a bed of roses...what does this step father know that is not being told?  What would have been her trigger to leave?

also, I was wondering if the boyfriend knew ahead of time that B was in MB on spring break? he couldn't have been real pleased that she was on spring break without him and that she was hanging out with a group of boys.......don't girls that age want to have their boyfriends with them every spare minute or has that changed since back in the day? why didn't he go too if he knew she was going? so many questions I declare!

That's what I have been thinking...Brittanee tried to fit in with the group, fit in with the older girls, be accepted.

I think most kids on spring break regardless of whether they are male or female are there just to party and have a good time for themselves.  Sure they should look out for each other but as Peter said, they are not there to babysit and so I think they tend to go where they think they will have fun and not worry about other members of their party as they should.

This is why it has become so dangerous.  One of them can easily be gone several hours before it is even noticed.

I thought Brittanee was staying with the group of girls, one of them being the one whose shorts she was wearing.

Was she staying at a different hotel?  Alone?

first I read was this morning on here that she had texted the girls that she was staying with and told them that she was staying elsewhere? had not heard that before today....a few posts back...
still, why did they just pack up and leave her stuff there the next day and not give her a ride back home? all very questioning to me...

New Look at Search for Brittanee; Sister to Perform in Fundraiser

(Myrtle Beach, S.C./Chili, N.Y.) - In Myrtle Beach, police are regrouping to take a fresh a look at evidence in the case of the teen from Chili who disappeared there while on spring break.

That evidence includes surveillance video, interviews, even text messages. 

Everything is back on the table in the hope that something new may come to light.

Brittanee Drexel's father, Chad Drexel, has stayed at home caring for her two younger siblings, while her mother is in Myrtle Beach.

At home, Brittanee's little sister, Myrissa Drexel, will dance a solo in a fundraiser to benefit the search effort.

She has dance to the song "Somewhere Out There," meaningful words to honor her sister and the cause to bring her home.


"We're keeping her in our prayers and she's somewhere out there,” she said.
   
Myrissa said she and Brittanee always kept each other in a good mood and she misses that and being called "sis."

“I just love when she says that, I missing her saying that. When she comes back and she's right here in front of me, I'm going to give her a big hug and a kiss,” she said.

The fundraiser will be held Tuesday, May 12, starting at 7 p.m. at Gates-Chili High School where Brittanee is a junior.

Bikers enlisted in search for missing N.Y. teen
Family has hopes visitors can help

Friend and relatives of a missing New York teen spent Monday trying to enlist visiting bikers in their search for the girl.

Brittanee Drexel's family members said they wanted to take advantage of the Harley-Davidson Cruisin' the Coast spring rally to continue to get the word out about her disappearance, so they spent Monday passing out fliers to bikers along Kings Highway.

The action comes two days after one group that had been helping to look for her called off its search, after spending 11 days in the effort.

  "We're trying to get fliers out because we know when they leave here, they are going to go all over the country," said Renee Friedman, a family friend and family spokeswoman.

Individuals have also set up benefits and candlelight vigils in Rochester, N.Y., to raise awareness that 17-year-old Drexel is missing, Friedman said.

Drexel, who is from Rochester, N.Y., was last seen April 25 during a trip to Myrtle Beach.

Her family has been in the area since then.

"We're staying here until it's over," said Carol Wagner, Drexel's grandmother. "I'm not leaving without her."

Several groups and law enforcement agencies have been searching for her in areas in Myrtle Beach, Georgetown County and Charleston County.

The groups and agencies include the Myrtle Beach Police Department, the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office, the Laura Recovery Center, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, and the Community United Effort Center for Missing Persons, which stopped searching Saturday evening.

The Myrtle Beach Police Department is still investigating the case.

"We haven't ruled anything out," Capt. David Knipes with the Myrtle Beach Police Department said Monday, regarding whether police think Drexel still might be in the area and whether foul play may be a factor. "We don't have anything leading us one way or the other. We get [leads] on a daily basis and have police follow them up."

Monica Caison, of Community United Effort, an N.C.-based organization that searches for missing people, said the group has called off its search for Drexel to wait for new information in hopes it leads to new search areas, Caison said.

Friedman said the family is encouraged that search groups would look into any leads.

The case has "brought as many resources to the area as it could," she said. "Efforts people have put into the case have been exceptional."

this brings to light that most of the focus/sympathy goes to the parents of the missing child.. little attention is given to the  siblings of a missing child, how they are feeling, how they are coping...what they are going through as well as the parents....sad for the whole family indeed!

The way I am reading it is that Brittanee came down here with those girls (Jen included) and had went to the guys hotel room to visit, while at the guys hotel room she was talking to Jen (who wanted her shorts back) One article did say they found some of Brittanee's clothes in the guys hotel room. This is getting a bit confusing.
I am hoping that the cops find new info while going over everything again.

Police are questioning 20-year-old Peter Brozowitz. He lives with his parents in Webster. CNN is reporting that he checked out of his hotel around 2 a.m. the night Brittanee Drexel went missing.

Brozowitz was in Myrtle Beach this past weekend with his [/b]friends Phillip Watson, Matthew Abrams and Keith Cummings, all from Rochester[/b]. Drexel, 17, a junior at Gates-Chili High School, was in Myrtle Beach without her mother’s permission.

According to Brozowitz’s attorney, John Parrinello, Brozowitz met Drexel at a party last Saturday and was later at his hotel room with his friends. Parrinello says Drexel left his client’s room to return to her girlfriends’ hotel but hasn’t been heard from since.
Ok this last part is contradiction to what Peter said yesterday on the Dr. Phil show. Peter said he and Brittanee had been aqainted for a couple of years.

On Fox news just now the mother is asking for members of Harley rally this week in MB to look for her.  Maybe they will see more than the average person.

Sometimes the contradictions are due to poor reporting rather than what was said.  That only makes the confusion worse.  Sometime it is good to have it from at least two sources before taking something reported as a fact.

With the Natalee Holloway case, we were all aware of the suffering of her brother Matt.  However, it just seems better to keep the glare of publicity off these youngsters.  Some of it is usually going to turn hostile at some point or other.  Their lives are in turmoil already without being put in a fishbowl of sorts while trying to continue with attending school and interacting with their friends.

But,yes, the sisters certainly deserve as much supsport as possible but think it better go keep that low key in their instance as this is just so much to put on kids like this.

Missing teen's family says they won't leave

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The search may be called off, but family members of a missing teen say they're not giving up hope or going home to New York just yet.

Brittanee Drexel, 17, was vacationing in Myrtle Beach when she disappeared on April 25. A tip led Myrtle Beach Police and two community groups - the CUE Center for Missing Persons and the Laura Recovery Center - to Georgetown County, but after days of searching with no results, volunteers stopped the active search.

Now, the family says they want to stay in the area to search, but they only have a place to stay until Friday. The family says that if you want to help, you can by visiting www.helpfindbrittanee.com.

The Drexel family says it's been a rough weekend for them. Brittanee missed her high school prom on Saturday, and on Sunday, Brittanee's mom, Dawn Drexel, spent Mother's Day without her daughter, and without her other children who are still in New York.

"I do miss them. I want them here with me, as much as I want Brittanee with me," Dawn Drexel explained. "They're asking, 'Did you find Brittanee yet?' I have to tell them no, and that we're still looking for her."

The family says they hope to stay in the Myrtle Beach area until they are able to return home with Brittanee.

Missing teen: Dancing for Drexel
 

Dancing to deal with a disappearance. Family and friends came together Tuesday night at a dance concert to support the search for a missing Chili teen. Brittanee Drexel was last seen April 25th while on spring break in Myrtle Beach.

Brittanee's little sister Myrissa Drexel performed at the concert hoping to help bring her sister home. News 10NBC was at Gates Chili High School for the benefit for Brittanee.

Myrissa Drexel was kickin' it old school Tuesday night dancing to an old Boyz to Men song.

"It's just awesome how everybody's here supporting us," Myrissa said. She was just one of dozens of dancers from studios across the area. All of them came together to support Brittanee.

"Without them we couldn't do it," said the missing teen's father Chad Drexel. "We'd be lost in the shuffle."

Drexel and his family continue to be amazed by the support from the community.

"The community's blown us away with the amount of love and support they've given us," said Chad Drexel. "There's no words to say other than, 'Thank you so much.'"

The search for Brittanee continues to get national attention. Brittanee's mom Dawn Drexel appeared on Tuesday night's edition of "Nancy Grace" on CNN.

"So they're working as hard as they can," said Dawn Drexel of the Myrtle Beach Police Department.

While they're working back here in Rochester people are praying. Dawn Drexel's co-workers from EBS RMSCO organized a special mass Tuesday night at Saint Helen's Church in Gates.

"I just want to help Dawn and the family out in any possible way I can," said co-worker Jennifer DiMaggio.

"Of course, we're all praying for Brittanee to come home safe and sound," added Dawn's director at work Karen Nicholson.

Back at Gates-Chili High School the evening ended with a special solo dance by Brittanee's little sister Myrissa. She danced to the song, "Somewhere Out There."

"I know that if she sees this she will be happy, and hopefully that will bring her home," said Myrissa.
