Posted: 7:45 AM May 4, 2009 Last Updated: 1:56 PM May 4, 2009 Reporter: Rodney Harris The World Meteorological Organization's hurricane committee has retired four hurricane names from the 2008 hurricane season due to the destruction they caused. Gustav, Ike and Paloma from the Atlantic basin, and Alma from the Pacific will never be used again to name hurricanes. Gustav became a category four storm and made landfall in Louisiana. The storm produced over $4 billion in damage and killed 112 people. Ike was also a category four hurricane that made a final landfall in Galveston, Texas. Ike produced $19.3 billion in damage and killed over 100 people. Paloma, a category four hurricane, was the second-strongest November hurricane on record in the Atlantic. It produced $300 million dollars in damage. Storm names are in a six-year rotation, taking the names from 2008 off the books until 2014.
