I could be wrong, but a marriage license in one state is not valid in another state.  Each state has their own laws, even in the 60s.

I would love for that reporter to walk up to the Mrs. and ask her how her wedding in Reno was and does she have pictures in the family album.  Ain't I mean!!!!

Now why would they lie? I suppose the father didn't approve her relationship or maybe she was PG? Isn't it true, back then either a girl was sent away to have the baby or she ran away to get married, but still left the area to have the baby in an effort to cover the time frame. maybe this is why there are no birth records in California assuming of course there still is not a birth record for their children...

Usually the girl was sent to a home for unwed mothers.  In this case, with Clifford Lane Lawless supposedly a long time friend of the family, I doubt that happened.  I think it does explain why no birth record can be found of their kids nor a marriage license in California.  Wonder if Neveda has a birth record, considering they have a marriage license record?

There is story of a young girl who got pg at the age of 16. She was sent away to have the baby who was given up or adoption but when she returned home she was force to marry another man the family approved of so too avoid any further "embarrassment". I am telling this because, well I am not sure. It is just what came to mind.

Blood testing was not manditory (yikes, can you imagin, lol, here we go!)
There is no waiting period
No parental concent was needed
Family didn't approve of marriage
Girl was PG and ran away to get married before telling parents of PG.

But then it states on the church site they got married on 2 days later....hmmm Maybe a church wedding after the fact? They would already be married legally so no need to document the marriage? That is my guess

Tracygirl, it was not so unusual for that to happen.  It was all hush, hush.  No such thing as open adoptions back in those days.
