Inmate Claims He Knows Who Killed Caylee

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A Florida prison inmate wrote a letter concerning the Casey Anthony case in July 2009 and Eyewitness News obtained a copy Monday (read it).
Jerry Jackson is a 21-year-old inmate (see mug) behind bars since 2004 on a 30-year sentence for crimes committed in 2002, including sexual battery with a weapon, armed burglary and kidnapping.

The letter, written on July 22, 2009 and addressed to "whom ever is representing Ms. Anthony," suggests that Jackson knows who killed Caylee Anthony and claims it was not Casey.

"I happen to know for a fact who killed her in which who is not Casey Anthony," Jackson wrote in the letter. "The person that killed her was a guy whose name I will not reveal at this time."

Jackson wrote, if no one responded by August 15, he'd take the information to his grave. Jackson has received mental health treatment and has told Eyewitness News in the past he's committed unsolved crimes that police say is not true.

In April 2006, a then 18-year-old Jackson claimed in a letter written from behind bars that he kidnapped missing 13-year-old Ashani Creighton and killed her. However, his claims were dismissed amid a history of mental illness.

ORLANDO, Fla.-- The California bail bondsmen who got Casey Anthony out of jail last August said he did not work for Anthony's attorney.

Anthony is currently in the Orange County jail awaiting trial on murder charges in the death of her daughter Caylee.

Attorney Jose Baez has argued that anything Anthony told Tony Padilla or his employees is protected by attorney-client privilege and therefore should not be used in her trial. Padilla, however, said that he was not working for Baez and that Baez did not want him to work for him.

In court on Friday, Baez said he reviewed all kinds of law to figure out how to protect Anthony from anything she might say in front of Padilla and his staff.

"As far as signing any paperwork to be part of the defense team, I never signed anything like that," Padilla said. "Jose was very adamant. He did not want any of us at all working for him."

ORLANDO, Fla.-- The judge in the Casey Anthony murder case has not yet ruled on three motions presented at a hearing last week.

Anthony, 23, remains jailed in first-degree murder charges in the death of her daughter, Caylee, who was 2 years old when she was reported missing in July 2008. Anthony has pleaded not guilty.

Orange County Circuit Judge Stan Strickland will soon decide whether to ban celebrity bounty hunter Leonard Padilla and his associates from testifying about what Anthony said in their presence while out on bond.

Strickland will also determine how much information the defense can receive about volunteers from Texas EquuSearch, which looked for Caylee Anthony's body before it was discovered in December.

Strickland also has yet to rule on whether Casey Anthony's murder trial will take place before her trial on bad check charges.

"When the time comes I'm sure Tracy's going to shed a lot of light on what kind of person Casey is," he said.
Attorney: Baez Could Use Searchers To Create Doubt

A defense attorney WESH 2 has been consulting said Baez may be able to create reasonable doubt by finding searchers who were in the area where Caylee's remains were found before they were located and didn't see anything. Then, he said, the state will have to counter with experts on the plants found growing in and around those remains.

Judge Stan Strickland said on Friday that he is inclined to give Anthony's defense access to records of Texas Equusearch volunteers who searched for Caylee near the area where her remains were later found.

Hornsby says those searchers could go a long way toward creating reasonable doubt in the minds of jurors.

The state, however, already has testimony from a botanist who told them that based on root growth around the remains, they had to have been there at least four months, which counteracts Anthony's claim she could not have put them there because she was in jail at the time.

But Hornsby said the plant science is not a slam dunk and jurors could be more inclined to believe searchers who said they didn't see anything.

Self-absorbed was the impression left by a WESH-Channel 2 report tonight. The station offered a "Today" interview with bail bondsman Tony Padilla, whose uncle is bounty hunter Leonard Padilla.

Padilla's team "spent nine days guarding Casey and their $500,000 investment," WESH's Bob Kealing said. "Their testimony could help the state argue that Casey was already emotionally detached from her still-missing daughter."

Anthony is charged with the first-degree murder of her daughter, Caylee.

In the "Today" interview, Tony Padilla said Anthony mostly talked about jail and never talked specifically about Caylee or trying to find the toddler.

Padilla said Anthony's mood ranged from "very concerned and very overwhelmed" to "very upbeat and very much into like a kind of festive atmosphere." Padilla said that his employee Tracy McLaughlin, who spent a lot of time with Anthony, will be able to offer a lot of insight into the young mother. Kealing added that in an off-camera interview, McLaughlin once told WESH that Anthony never talked about the child.

Jose Baez is trying to block information from the Padilla team, citing attorney-client privilege. But WESH.com reports that Padilla said his team did not work for the defense.

I knew Lenny didn't spend alot of time with Casey, but Rob and Tracey did.
Lenny was in the RV, wasn't Rob almost living in the RV and Rob drove Casey to Baez's office almost every day.

Did we ever figure out who filed the 3rd complaint to Florida State Bar against Bozo Baez?.......does anyone think possibly Tony Padilla?........Tony does state in his websleuths posts that Baez lied to him....just a thought....

May 2009:Private Investigator Dominic Casey had filed a complaint against Jose Baez with the Florida BAR claiming that Jose Baez had told him not to call 911  if he found the body of Caylee Anthony.

April 2009:Circuit Judge Stan Strickland -- the judge in the Casey Anthony case -- has filed a complaint against Jose Baez, Casey Anthony's attorney.

It's very rare for a judge to file such a complaint with the Florida Bar, WFTV reporter Kathi Belich said in breaking the story.

"There's speculation the complaint involves private eye Dominic Casey's claim that he was told not to call 911 if he were to find Caylee's body," Belich said.

Been awhile since I've posted in here, but have been reading and staying caught up as much as possible. 

Dunno how many of you believe in "forensic astrology", not sure how much even I believe in it.... and yet.... I do find it to be strangly fascinating at times, oddly accurate at times too.  I like reading back on cases after a period of time has gone by, just to see what a forensic astrologer has said, how close s/he may have come. 

Anyhoo.... I checked out the following site (link below) to see what this one said about Caylee, and hmmmm.. interesting!  It's a long read, with an update at the top of the page.  At the link, might want to scroll down and read the first part first, then the update.  Whatever floats ya boat.   ::MonkeyKiss::

Most interesting to me is that this person places A MAN with Casey and Caylee.  That perhaps Caylee died at the hands of this man, rather than Casey.  It's supposedly seen in "the charts". 

And *IF* that is true, could be why it seems that Casey has from the start been protecting someone else.  And maybe why her nightmare defense team seems so sure she didn't do it.  Would love to know who they are planning to throw under the bus.

Question is... who would be so important to Casey that she would willingly sit in jail for so long without already throwing em under the bus?  Seems to me that the only important person to Casey is.. Casey herself.  JMO.

What if.......................  What if someone else did cloroform Caylee, for whatever reason, and accidentally gave her too much, which resulted in her eventual death? 

I dunno what to think about all that.  Am still thinking that Casey either participated in Caylee's death, or knows exactly what happened.  And I do believe that Casey disposed of Caylee's body, with or without help. 

It will be interesting to see what LE may know that they aren't telling yet. 

Is it known why Lee got immunity?  Am thinking I was offline when that was found out.  grrrr.

Oh yeah, def yes to dp here as well.  Even if there was someone else there.  Course I'd like for that person, if there is one, to get the dp too.  Sometimes I think the dp is too good for the likes of this.  Too kind, too quick.  The only problem I have with a life sentence would be the endless appeals, the possibility of it all getting overturned and her walking out one day.   ::MonkeyMad::

And I agree with you on her protecting her own azz, no matter what.  She may just be being quiet so as to not say what else she may have been involved in.  I do still think that when all is said and done, this may just blow something big wide open.  Just have a feeling is all.

Hi, monkeys. I keep thinking and thinking about the autopsy report because I just know there is a lot in there that is NOT being said that is perhaps pointing to clues about Caylee's death. I keep feeling like there is a lot more to the story that we are going to learn later. And then, suddenly, it occurred to me that there is one big thing NOT being said in the autopsy report, and it has to do with injuries LEADING TO or OCCURRING AROUND THE TIME OF death.

To explain, the autopsy report clearly says that there is no evidence of antemorterm trauma to the bones and skull. Well, technically, ANTEmortem is an injury sustained before death that actually shows some signs of healing -- for example, it could have occurred any time during one's life, and some sign of healing is always noted. What the report DOESN'T say is that no "PERImortem" injury is found on the skull. Perimortem refers to something that occurs approximately AT THE TIME of death and/or actually possibly leading to the death. In this way, Caylee's skull actually could have been fractured and we wouldn't even know it from the way the autopsy report is worded, because it DOES NOT say that it has ruled out perimortem trauma AT ALL. Perimortem trauma is very possible -- it has not been ruled out by at least the reports we have seen.

I don't even want to think about what could have actually happened . . .

I just wanted to clarify that I'm specifically talking about Caylee's SKULL -- and not her bones. When the autopsy report is discussing her skull specifically, it just keeps saying, "no antemortem trauma"; it's only when the topic is her bones or "skeletal remains" that it says "no perimortem trauma."

That's right!!  There was that guy, then all that went hush-hush in the media, if I remember right.  Not sure who he was related to, am thinking there was so much to talk about back then, it's hard to remember that part.  But it was weird, that's for sure!  That whole visit and everything about that guy.   Seems to me to have been a warning, this guy showing up out of nowhere, maybe to warn her to keep her mouth shut.  Like maybe he was sent by 'someone else' and Casey got the message to hush.  That's one of the first things that tipped me off that this whole thing may be just part of something huge. 

Another weird thing is that in a lot of states maybe all, I dunno, an inmate in jail usually doesn't get "uninvited" visitors.  Those wanting to visit an inmate typically need to already be on a list given by the inmate to the jail staff, with their identifying info (such as birthdate etc) given as well.  Then the visitor has to show their ID, etc before being allowed to visit.   

The media (or someone at least) made it seem like Casey didn't know at first who this guy was, that he just stopped by to visit her.  Am not so sure that it happened that way at all.  Am thinking Casey knew exactly who that guy was before he ever got there, knew exactly what he wanted and was there for, etc.  And I highly doubt it was just some guy she knew from high school and hadn't seen since then.

One thing is true, great care seems to have been taken in the wording of the portion of the autopsy that was made public. 

I do know that in at least one other case, what was released from that autopsy was worded very carefully so as not to cause the public to be upset.   ::MonkeyConfused:: 

The way I feel about all that, is ... just give us the facts, don't hide anything behind fancy words, let the chips fall where they may.  If the factual info causes an uproar in the community, well.. that seems to be part of the consequences for the one who did the crime.  IMO.   

Seems to me, that carefully wording the autopsy, or anything else in the case, is simply protecting the perpetrator.  Not the victim or the feelings of the victims family, or of the public, as may be the original intent.   Protecting the perp does nothing toward bringing justice.  IMO

Sigh.  Guess I'd fit right in back in the old old west, where getting a rope brought swift justice.   Seems that in this modern day, the victim/family/friends are shoved aside so that the perp and info relating to the case can be protected at all costs.  Just my opinion.

This is Kathy Reichs, she is the anthropologist that the defense has hired and who will testify at Casey's trial. I just saw the very end of an interview with her on the Today Show. She said what happened to Caylee was horrible and she will be in court  to tell what was found with Caylee's bones.

I watch the tv program called "BONES" all the time and it is based off of Kathy. I did not know this, I found that info online. In the program the main character is a genius and she seeks the truth to what causes peoples death. I hope Kathy is truly like this tv character as she stops at nothing to find the truth.

As far as LP goes..even though he didn't talk to Casey for very long..remember Rob and Tracey were with Casey almost constantly.  I think he knows just about what they know because when Tracey was in the house I think she was probably wired.so they could hear everything going on inside the house. I just don't think LP would have let Tracey stay alone with that nutty family wothout a wire..so they could dash in if they had to in a moments notice to protect Tracey.

Tony Padilla Says He Wasn't Part Of Defense Team

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The California bail bondsman who got Casey Anthony out of jail in August 2008 said he did not work for Anthony's attorney.

Anthony is currently in the Orange County Jail awaiting trial on murder charges in the death of her daughter, Caylee.

Attorney Jose Baez has argued that anything Anthony told Tony Padilla or his employees is protected by attorney-client privilege and therefore should not be used in her trial. Padilla, however, said that he was not working for Baez and that Baez did not want him to work for him.
"As far as signing any paperwork to be part of the defense team, I never signed anything like that," Padilla said. "Jose was very adamant. He did not want any of us at all working for him."

Padilla's team, including his flamboyant uncle bounty hunter Leonard Padilla, spent nine days guarding Anthony and their $500,000 investment. Their testimony could help the state argue that Anthony was already emotionally detached from her missing daughter.

"At moments she seemed very concerned about her daughter being gone, but other times she wanted to create an upbeat and festive atmosphere," Padilla said.

Padilla said Anthony never confessed anything to him, but that his employee, Tracy McLaughlin, was in close company with Anthony and had insight into her mindset.

"When the time comes, I'm sure Tracy's going to shed a lot of light on what kind of person Casey is," he said.
Attorney: Baez Could Use Searchers To Create Doubt

A defense attorney WESH 2 has been consulting said Baez may be able to create reasonable doubt by finding searchers who were in the area where Caylee's remains were found before they were located and didn't see anything. Then, he said, the state will have to counter with experts on the plants found growing in and around those remains.

Judge Stan Strickland said on Friday that he is inclined to give Anthony's defense access to records of Texas Equusearch volunteers who searched for Caylee near the area where her remains were later found.

Hornsby says those searchers could go a long way toward creating reasonable doubt in the minds of jurors.

The state, however, already has testimony from a botanist who told them that based on root growth around the remains, they had to have been there at least four months, which counteracts Anthony's claim she could not have put them there because she was in jail at the time.

But Hornsby said the plant science is not a slam dunk and jurors could be more inclined to believe searchers who said they didn't see anything.

Andrea Lyon has one coming out that is interfering with her court work, as she will be going to book signings. Who was the female writer who was going to come out with her book, something about "Mommy's Little Girl" or something like that about the time the trial starts next year?

Somehow, I remember when Reichs first joined the team, it was said she was only joining in a forensic capacity and not writing a book...humm. Her interview on the Today Show about the book seems to have some subliminal messages about Caylee's murder.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A woman was charged with aggravated child abuse after her daughter was rushed to a hospital covered in what appeared to be bite marks and later died.
Four-month-old Ashley Diaz was found unconscious at her family home in Orlando two weeks ago and taken to Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital, where she later died, a police report said.
The report stated the death was immediately considered suspicious because the child was covered in what seemed to be bite marks on her neck, arms and legs, and she had a bruise above one of her eyes.
The child's mother, Katie Furtaw, 21, was arrested on Friday. Police said at Furtow first said she was unaware of the injuries.
However, she told detectives during a second interview that she occasionally "nibbled" on the baby in a "playful manner," the police report said.
Police spoke to Furtaw againof Friday and she continued to claim that she playfully nibbled her daughter and may have bitten her harder than she should have, but she said she did not intend to harm her.

As the questioning continued, the police report indicated Furtaw began to cry and then said she bit the baby out of frustration.

"She got frustrated when the infant would cry and did admit to biting the child about five to 10 times," Orlando Police Department Sgt. Barbara Jones said.

The Medical Examiner's Office hasn't determined how the baby died, and the death remains under investigation.

Furtaw was released from the Orange County Jail after posting a $5,000 bond.

One thing I can say for Lenny is that he at least DID something. He didn't sit back and wait for someone else to step forward. He at least tried when no one else was doing anything. How much money did he make off of what has transpired over the last year or so? I don't know.

Maybe he will write a book someday, or be in a movie. Somehow I doubt it, but it is clearly a possibility. He was supposed to have a show on one of the cable channels in the works, but if it is on or will be, I don't know that either.

This whole deal with Caylee has given him face time on TV. Some love him, some hate him. We wanted to hear what he had to say, and for the most part, most of what he has said has come to pass. When he was wrong, he has admitted to it. I do believe he brought a part of the national attention to Caylee, so that can't be all bad.

My feeling about Lenny is he looked into the eyes of Caylee in her precious little pictures just as we have. And then he got to look into the evil eyes of her mother and saw what we did. And then he made his choice of what he had to do.

He could have gone back to California when Skanky was put back in jail and washed his hands of it. But he didn't. He kept Caylee out there when the story seemed to be dying, when the searchers had packed up and gone home. He kept making appearances on TV, and was critized for it. He was called a "media whore" by many people, and now by his own business partner and nephew Tony. But he toughed it out, when he was dissed by so many people.

I think I understand Lenny and why he has done this all. I really do. Sometimes doing the right thing is not the popular thing. I think he goes to bed some nights and wonders why he keeps doing this. But he gets up in the morning and keeps soldiering on. I think he cannot forget the innocent eyes of Caylee and the evil eyes of Skanky.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The
defense team for Casey Anthony, who is charged with murder in the death
of her daughter, Caylee, received thousands of pages of documents and
photos from the state on Tuesday.

The photos turned over by prosecutors include an image of Anthony's
tattoo, which was photographed last week during a jail visit.

The state attorney's office also gave the defense more than 2,000 new
documents, including FBI lab reports, as well as CDs containing images
from an Internet Photobucket account.

Meanwhile, prosecutors have added two names to the witness list.Sean
Henady, who took aerial photographs of the area where Caylee's remains
were later found, and James Thompson, who owns a Maitland computer
repair business, are now listed as potential witnesses in the murder
case. The role Thompson plays in the case is not known.

LP does what he does because he believes in the truth and in justice and he'll do whatever he can to see that is achieved.  He doesn't care about others criticisms because he knows what he is doing is the right thing to do. If only we had more people like LP in our world. He may make mistakes along the way, but don't we all? He has his opinions, just as we all do. But when he goes to bed at the end of the day, I don't think he questions himself on why he is doing what he does, he only questions himself on how he can do what he does better. This man has a huge heart for others and I respect him because of that. MOO

Hi everyone,  Maybe a title ( A family that didn't care ) I have to say one thing for Lenny, he never deviates from what he's said..... When you don't lie its easy to say the same story, because its not going to change. ( unlike the a's they can't keep the story straight because all they do is lie. How about this ( A family of lies and deception)? I like Lenny as somebody said rough on the outside but warm and fuzzy on the inside. I truly believe he is a decent man.

I like Leonard Padilla, too, although I am under no illusion that everything he does is from the goodness of his heart, although IMO he does have a good heart.  He goes after people for "Bounty," i.e. money, but they are bad guys who are trying to escape justice. It's a living.  I do think that he truly believed Caylee was alive and that's why he facilitated the bond for Casey, thinking he could get it out of her.  Of course, like the rest of us he soon discovered that Caylee was dead and Casey killed her.  I think he was truthful in believing the search at Blanchard Park might yield results and that he was sincere in his memorial for Caylee at the river.  At that time, no one was even considering a memorial, until Cindy got the idea from the memorial at the park and planned her Casey extravaganza and the big "Look at me", there's no business like show business, whatever it was.

If his nephew Tony is being truthful about his experience with the Anthonys, which I doubt, he must be the most naive person in the world.  I find it hard to believe that he is naive because in his business, he deals with the dregs of society and I should think any such innocence would quickly vanish.  I lost all respect for him when he started bad-mouthing his uncle, with whom, he claims he has worked since the age of six.  He says he doesn't want disrespect his uncle, but then he goes right on with the disrespect.  I don't know what his game is, but I don' like it.  Maybe a book, who knows, but here's one cookie who won't be buying it...any of it.

LYNNEINMD, It seems alot of players have their hand up their sleeves and each other's pockets. It is hard to tell the "good" guys from the "bad" guys in this. Everyone involved seems to get slimed. Since Tony Padilla seems to have sided with the Anthony camp, I'll move him over to the "bad" guy player on my game board.

Tony did not put up the money for Skanky's bond. Lenny put his OWN money up. Tony's company only guarnateed that she would show up at court or forefit the whole bond. He is out nothing, so he really doesn't have a dog in this fight. He just showed his true colors to me.

OK, you all have made me feel better.  Thanks.  I have a question though.  Is the Prosecution saving their best evidence for trial? I never heard if they found finger prints on the duct tape. Can they save evidence without sharing it with Baez?

Yes they are, the best for the trial. I don't think they can keep evidence from the defense, but there are somethings in the Sunshine Laws where all of the evidence doesn't come out for the public to see.

It is possible BOZO has gotten more evidence that we have seen. Sometimes there is evidence that the public doesn't see and can be blocked from the Sunshine Laws, unfortunately.  Personally, I do think there is fingerprints from Skanky on the duct tape. Only, Georgie, Spindy and Lee have been ruled out. That is my belief, others may think otherwise.

But, no all evidence has to be shared with the defense. They have to know what she's accused of and every shred of evidence that supports the prosecution.

And, I think I heard that anything that is still part of an "ongoing" investigation does not have to be released to the public.....  It is my opinion that the detectives are still "investigating" details of the murder, and so anything connected with that investigation we have not yet seen and will not until trial.  That will be the most damning evidence, IMO.

I hope Judge Strickland lets the check fraud case go first.   It really is intertwined with the other.

Yes, Lynne--You're right.  Leonard put up $50,000, not refundable.  Tony put up a surity bond, I believe working through a South Florida bonding company.  It seems to me that I recall it was because he was not licensed in FL.  As I understand it, Leonard was the only one who was out any money on the deal. Tony showed his true colors to me, too.  And it is not pretty, IMO.

The Anthonys might have been "Nice" to Tony on that one evening, but it appears that Cindy cannot sustain "Nice" for any length of time with anybody. I still wonder about the "You don't tell on me and I won't tell on you" philosophy.  I wonder what Tony would wish to remain secret.  What, if anything, has he done?  I find his need to go on an internet forum quite suspect, particularly in view that  he hasn't been public to any extent at all until now.  What has changed?  Does he fear the Anthonys for some reason?  Is his reason for going public to warn them?  I don't know the answers to any of these questions.  Just wondering.  I wonder if Tony is married?  He seems to have fallen under Casey's spell that night to determine she was "Sweet" and "Respectful" even though he surely knew her history.  Not implying anything.  Just curious. She must make spectacular mac 'n cheese.

I can make pretty good mac 'n cheese too. No big talent in that, as far as I am concerned. I just wonder how many "middle of the night" calls or e-mails Tony has received in reference to his disowned Uncle Lenny? We have heard the threatening voice mail John Allen received. Maybe some people have more backbone than others. My view is that Tony should just keep a low profile in California as he was doing before. He is doing nothing to improve the situation in Florida.

WO:  On WFTV site, re: Baez's Amended Response, dated 8/21/2009, he is requesting 10/4/2010 for the fraud trial to begin but I don't believe Judge Strickland has ruled/responded to Baez's motion yet.

No Rose, It wouldn't surprise me if Strickland goes along with Casey.  These Anthonys are coated with teflon and nothing sticks.  I think if anyone other than George and Cindy Anthony had done what they've done, they would be in jail.  What is it with "the Anthonys have suffered enough?"  Caylee is the one who suffered.  I get so angry that they get away with everything. And I'm pretty disgusted with Strickland, too.  IMO if he allows that so-called defense to rifle through everyone's private application they filled out when they helped TES search, it will have a very chilling effect on future volunteers.  And, I think Strickland will do it.

I agree with you, I think Strickland will go along with the defense's right to rifle through the searchers info. And it will have an effect on future searchers. They can do anything, and it is, look at the grieving grandparents. This is so beyond old.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The defense team for Casey Anthony, who is charged with murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee, received thousands of pages of documents and photos from the state on Tuesday
The photos turned over by prosecutors include an image of Anthony's tattoo, which was photographed last week during a jail visit.

Tattoo artist Danny Colomarino told investigators he gave Anthony the tattoo, which says "La Vita Bella," meaning the beautiful life, in early July 2008, about two weeks after Caylee was last seen alive.

The state attorney's office also gave the defense more than 2,000 new documents, including FBI lab reports, as well as CDs containing images from an Internet Photobucket account.

At a hearing last week, prosecutors asked a judge to set a trial date for Anthony's check forgery case, and prosecutors want that trial to take place within the next three months --- well before Anthony goes on trial for murder.

But the defense said they want to concentrate on the murder trial -- a death-penalty case -- and have asked that the check forgery case be postponed until after the murder case, which is scheduled for next summer. Anthony's attorneys have targeted November 2010 as a possible target, about five months after her murder trial is scheduled to begin.

The judge has yet to rule on the issue.

Meanwhile, prosecutors have added two names to the witness list.

Sean Henady, who took aerial photographs of the area where Caylee's remains were later found, and James Thompson, who owns a Maitland computer repair business, are now listed as potential witnesses in the murder case. The role Thompson plays in the case is not known.

Anthony, 23, remains jailed on first-degree murder charges in the death of Caylee, whose remains were found in December. Caylee was 2 years old when she was reported missing in July 2008.

That $4 million makes "equal under the law" must look very strange for a 21yr old guy from the 'hood facing murder charges, doesn't it? .  It kinda makes me sick that she has attracted all these publicity seeking lawyers, experts and all their hangers on and can drag this out for another year before she ever comes to trial....

When Strickland said "The truth and Miss Anthony are strangers"  I thought - good, no Judge Ito in sight, but now I am not so sure he is not getting intimidated by all this..

I couldn't agree more Miki - Strickland seems emotionally attached to the Scamthony's in that he feels sorry for them - if he is he NEEDS to detach now because they will try to control his court room if they feel he is putty in their hands, he needed to set the record straight in court on Friday by telling George that he will decide what is relevant and what isn't - I felt a little uncomfortable with him after that hearing.

Mission to Convict  I want to respond to your post, but the stack was getting big and I have never gotten the hang of how to shorten it, so I just started a new one.  Remember the "Dancing Itos?"  I'm afraid that if Strickland keeps up with his namby-pamby attitude, we'll be seeing the "Dancing Stricklands."  You are absolutely right.  Strickland should have explained To George in the most stern manner that it is he, the judge, who makes decisions as to what is and is not relevant. George and Cindy are users and very strong characters.  Look at Tony Padilla.  They hoodwinked him in three hours.  And I didn't think that George Anthony had any standing to object to the release of the autopsy report, but there he was, putting on his "Poor George" act and storming out of the courtroom.  He should have been held in contempt for that.  The judge should have had the bailiff bring him right back in and he should have explained that one cannot, with impunity, storm out of a courtroom to show contempt for the judge's decision.  And then he should have shown George a little contempt.  A couple of days in the slammer. Teflon, teflon, teflon. Why? Why? Why?

I agree, that Stan should have said something to George about who determines what is/is not relative in his courtroom and about storming out of the courtroom at the autopsy hearing. But they can not have any of the Anthonys arrested as they need their testimony at trial. If they are arrested from any of the shenanigans they are pulling related to this case, then the Anthonys will be allowed to plead the 5th on the stand and the state will not get their much needed testimony. It seems to me that the Anthonys are well aware of this and are pushing things to the limit....possibly in hopes of being held in contempt just to make that very scenario happen....that and the fact that they are control freaks.  Patience, Monkeys, patience. Their time is coming and I believe it will come. JMO

That was explained to me by another, so it's someone else who has the smarts. And I would think that if they refused to answer a question it would be up to the judge to decide if they would be held in contempt. If it were anybody else, I would have no doubt they would be held in contempt, in this case, that is a very good question. So far they have answered questions, although it has taken some swaying to do so and when they balk, they seem to answer with a lie.  I'll have to google to see if I can find an answer to that question.

Ok, a person can refuse to answer a question and plead the 5th, however a person taking the 5th can be charged with obstruction of justice, contempt of court and so forth.

A witness may not refuse to answer questions on the ground that the answers may reveal matters that may incriminate other persons (with the possible exception of married couples -- see Spousal privilege)., then goes on to say about contempt...

I don't know if anyone else can relate to this, but it's been more than a year now, and this case has nearly destroyed me. Maybe I'm being overly dramatic when I say that, but I wish we could just get this thing over with and see Casey  tried and punished for what she did to her daughter. It's a sick world in which someone like her is able to recruit an army of truth-twisting "high-profile" lawyers to continually delay her trial and attempt to poison the potential jury pool with doubt and flurries of ridiculous motions and pleadings. I've had enough. I just want to hear the evidence that the SA has and see Casey finally get what she deserves. I have trouble sleeping because of this case, and numerous times it has kept me from my daily tasks.

I guess if Caylee had better grandparents, ones who didn't blow kisses or mouth "I LOVE YOUs" to her killer in the courtroom, I would feel better.

She claims she left her daughter with the Nanny but when she returned to pick her up that afternoon she was gone and she was searching for her in her own investigative way. It was 31 days before being reported to the police that little Caylee Anthony had been missing.

After checking out the mother’s story the police came to the conclusion that all they were being fed were lies and Casey was arrested. Eventually the charges were brought against her for first degree murder and she is being held in the Orange County Jail until her trial without bail.

At the time there still was no body to prove the child was even dead. On December 11, 2008 a meter reader in Orlando discovered the remains of what was eventually identified as those of Caylee Marie Anthony.

Tons of evidence has been released to the public which has people drawing their own conclusions as to Casey’s fate in this case. Apparently though there are some out there that claims she is innocent.

Jerry Jackson is 21 year old Florida prison inmate that has been in prison since 2004 while serving a 30 year sentence for crimes which he committed in 2002 which include sexual battery with a weapon, armed burglary and kidnapping.

Jackson wrote a letter concerning Casey Anthony’s case in July 2009 addressed to “whom ever is representing Ms. Anthony” claiming that he knows Casey didn’t kill Caylee and that he knew who did. He mailed the letter to the Clerk of Court. Eyewitness News has a copy of that letter.

In the letter he wrote, “I happen to know for a fact who killed her which is not Casey Anthony. The person that killed her was a guy whose name I will not reveal at this time.”

At the end of the letter he wrote that if no one responds to his letter by August 15 he would just take the information to his grave with him.

Reports show that Jackson has a list of mental health problems. In April of 2006 he wrote a letter claiming he kidnapped a 13 year old girl and killed her but his claims were dismissed because of the history of mental illness.
So I don’t think the defense team should be too excited over this letter as a way to clear their client. I know the news of this letter sure doesn’t change my opinion as to who killed that baby.

I pray that one of these days Justice will be served for Caylee and her killer doesn’t walk free.

Maybe I don't know how to search for this properly, but I did find this post by Dave Knechel, who has the blog marinadedave. He wrote this article after last Friday's hearing:

Jose Baez, her attorney, has asked for a November 2010 date, "presumably after the murder trial," WESH-Channel 2's Bob Kealing reported.

Anthony is charged with murder of her child, Caylee.

Prosecutors want the forgery trial to start within three months, WKMG-Channel 6's Mike DeForest said. "Anthony has offered up her own suggestion when the trial should take place," he added. "Casey Anthony has suggested holding the forgery trial in November of next year, about five months after murder trial begins. The judge's decision about the check-forgery trial could come down at any moment."

The stations also explored the latest photos and documents released by the state. The state last week photographed the "la bella vita" tattoo that Anthony received shortly after her daughter disappeared.

"It's a fairly common tattoo," Kealing said. "Prosecutors will argue that Casey got it during the first week of July while Caylee was still believed to be missing. They will use it as evidence that Casey was not really looking for her daughter -- quite the opposite appeared to be enjoying her new life without a child to care for."

Or as WESH legal analyst Richard Hornsby succinctly put it: "She was so detached from her daughter that she didn't care."

In a later newscast, Kealing noted that the case has produced 10,000 pages of documents and repeated Orlando attorney Cheney Mason's prediction that the case could cost $4 million.

Now that is a great question, I don't know, but I'm sure someone might.

I think Stan is treading very purposely and very thughtfully in this case for one reason...he does want to see justice done and he does not want a mistrial or appeal later because Casey claims her rights were stepped on or she had insufficent counsel (Bonehead Baez not withstanding).

He has to make sure that every nuiance meets that test..he must feel like a wet dishcloth at the end of a day in court with Baez..patiently listening to someone who cannot think on his feet and makes no legal sense at times.

I think in the end..Casey will have had a very fair trial..and will be found guilty.  Infact, I think after Big Momma makes her case to rid Florida of the death penality , and the others have sucked out their fame and glory from this case....you will see them ask that a plea deal be put on the table..once the legal eagles have no more to gain..and don't want a loss on their scorecoards, plea it will be.

Though my memory is sketchy, I think I remember early in the case where
defence suggested Strickland had a conflict of interest and wanted him off the case.  Think arguement was based on the fact  Strickland conducted the hearing about stolen cheques etc.

Wonder how the judge gets around the fact that Amy signed a speedy trial, she has her rights too. I thought before when they met behind closed doors the judge had said if Amy wanted this done she should sign that. This could be the answer he is looking for, where he is within his rights to grant the fraud charge first because Amy is also entitled to her rights.

Hey, monkeys!  Thanks for the infor regarding Stan the Man's record.  I was sorely disappointed in his failure to swat down George's arrogance on Friday.  It's good to know that he is so highly regarded. It's reassuring that he is a decent man, but I worry that his evident sympathy for the "grieving grandparents" will cloud his judgement.  By the way, the defense seems to be scrambling.  They have veered off into a whole new direction with the "Casey is innocent" scenario.  When was the last time anyone, including G $ A mentioned Zanny the Nanny as kidnapping Caylee?  Is she now off the radar?

UGH- that definitely comes under the heading of 'Things you wish you'd never known about'..

In Florida, if one is subpoenaed to testify at a criminal trial, they are automatically given use immunity.  That is, they can't plead the Fifth Amendment  because what they say, even if it incriminates themselves, cannot be used to prosecute them.  So the Anthonys can and should be charged now, IMO, with several offenses because I believe there is ample evidence against them.   To do so now would not in any way hinder the prosecution in questioning them at Casey's trial, because their testimony could not be used against them and they would have to answer every question.  Of course,if they commit perjury during that testimony, they could be prosecuted for that.   Even if they should confess to murdering Caylee, it can't be used unless it can be proven to be perjured testimony.  I still wish that Judge Strickland had held George in contempt for storming out of the courtroom during the hearing about releasing the autopsy report.  He deserved it, and it wouldn't affect his testimony at Casey's trial in any way. Also, it is all well and good for a judge to be cautious in his rulings, but he shouldn't lean so far in favor of the defense that good evidence can't be used against the defendant.  He should rule according to what he believes the law requires and not with an eye to what an appeals court might do.   

As I recall, and I could be mistaken, the reason Judge Strickland remained on this case even though he is now assigned to civil cases, was because he had started as the judge and another judge would have to familarize himself or herself with the facts to that point. Not to change horses in midstream, so to speak.

I recognize that woman.  Oh, well, maybe I don't.

I really don't think there's a snowball's chance in he77 that Georgie or Spindy will testify truthfully in court when the time comes. Most likely they will plead the 5th and take their chances. Probably  they will get away with it. I don't think they have any respect for the court's atthority, and will be unmoved by any of it. They have been cut every break and will continue to do just what they want.

Sitting back and thinking they will get their comeuppance is just wistful thinking. They was a time that I thought things would turn out differently. There is no one that has the stomach to take them on. No hero riding in on a white horse, no judge with a big enough gavel. They have turned into people who have green running through their veins, and do not have to abide to laws and rules like you and I.  We see it everyday with "celebrities." I agree with you that the Anthonys do not have any respect for the authority of the Court.  People who do, don't show up in shorts, chew gum, swill from a water bottle while on the stand, raise their hand from the observers' benches to get the judge's attention, make faces in court, speak disrespectfully to the attorney trying to obtain sworn testimony, make a big show of trying to send signals and messages to the defendant (who is charged with murdering their granddaughter), or otherwise attempt to disrupt or make light of a murder trial.

Nor do they blatantly, repeatedly LIE while under oath.

I was chastized by a judge one time as I sat in the gallery about a case that I had no part of. I just knew that the testimony was untrue.
I didn't make a gesture or a sound, I just shook my head in disbelief. I was told if I did it again, I would be asked to leave. Things have certainly changed.

Your comment Fanny, reminded me of Jeff Ashton during the last hearing. He was shaking his head so much during that hearing I couldn't help but laugh. That is true, Fanny, but the judge is protecting Caylee, as well as Casey, by withholding certain evidence now. I do think he is doing his best to make sure this trial goes forth in the right manner so there is no room for Casey to catch a break, with the end result being JUSTICE FOR CAYLEE.

It seems somehow that the Bill of Rights and the Constitution have some how been twisted around and are now used to protect the guilty instead of the innocent. WTH?  ::MonkeyMad::

Here's an update from the neighbor of the Anthonys:

Lee is living on Hopespring. His car is there daily. I pass it when I drive "around". Mallory is there at times. seems to be in sync with the A's traveling. Milsteads have not been there very often lately.

I asked how often are the Anthonys traveling these days:

I don't know for sure BUT it seems that every time that Mallory's car is there overnight we hear about the A's off traveling so that is really all I have to go by. I believe it was recently parked there after the Motion hearing. JMO

I always found that name, "The House of Purpose," really creepy because the house where the Czar of Russia and his family were murdered, the Ipatiev house in Yekaterinburg was called by the Communists, "The House of Special Purpose."  I wonder if any of them knew it. Really bad vibes.

Fanny Mae, Hi---Do you think things in courtrooms have changed everywhere, or is it just this court at this time with these people?  Despite what the trial lawyers think about Strickland, I am beginning to wonder why he doesn't demand the proper decorum in his courtroom.  The only thing I have ever seen him do to uphold the dignity of the Court was early on during one of the bail hearings where he had the bailiff hand Cindy a tissue to remove her gum.  I should think that prior to entering the courtroom, at the time  they have some sort of security check, they would be told to remove gum, leave the water bottle outside, and maintain some sort of proper behaviour in the courtroom.  I know that Florida is more casual than some other parts of the country, but surely the Anthonys behaviour in the courtroom would be unacceptable before other judges in Orlando.  I am puzzled and not a little bit disgusted about why they are not called on it.

JVM tonight...Someone stated a tentative trial date is set for June 2010 and the Check Fraud set for four months after the end of criminal trial. I didn't see who said that, I only heard it from another room, lol.

I can only answer your question about my own experience, which was rather extensive when I lived in Alabama and worked with LE. Many times we were required in court for cases, and I often occompanied my LE husband when it was required for him to go. There was a certain decorum that was expected once you entered into a courtroom. Certainly no gum chewing, tobacaco chewing or snuff, shirts were required and not tank tops, or tube top and shorts. Gaudy jewelry and t-shirts with slogans were out. I have seen people sent home to get dressed in decent clothing and have a deadline to be bak that day. Neat jeans were acceptable as long as they were not raggetly at the knees or the bottoms. Shoes were a must. The bailiff reminded the subjects before the bench by the bailiff to stand up straight and not sloch, and look directly at the judge and speak in an audible voice. I have heard a bailiff remind someone several times to stand up straight.

If the LE were there in an official capacity, they were expected to show up with shined shoes, creases in their pants, and shirts, and clean shaven, even if they had just finsished a midnight shilft at 7am.

I have noticed several times that Spindy sneaks her bottles inside her purse when she goes in. After she is seated she pulls them out. A bailiff should come along and remove it, along with the gum she is knawing on.

All of this sets the decorum for a courtroom. I have NEVER in my life seen a lawyer stroll into court with a Patron shirt on or even in shirt sleeves and no tie. Every lawyer I have know may have his jacket slung over his shoulder going in to the building, but had always put it on by the time he walked into the judges courtroom, no matter what the weather.

Yes, I think Florida is a lot more lax with courtroom decorum. It filters down. It filters down to George saying "I object!" And getting away with it. I have seen judges rip up side and down the other for much less than that infraction. A judge that had a tight hold on his court keeps people in line. Spindy hopping up and interrupting the court would have been surrounded by bailiff's and drug off for interrupting. Swigging from the bottle would have gotten it taken away from her, the first time it came out.

I know Florida is a lot laid back about a lot of things, and I think the court is just accomodating those feelings, all to the detriment. People feel they are in Florida, and they should wear the skimpiest things they can find. We see it at each hearing. And we see the rules of courtroom behavior go steadily downhill.

The bickering and face making and head shaking by the lawyers would never have be tolerated where I was from. The judge would be roaring like a blast furnace, and no on within earshot would have any doublts about how things where going in his courtroom. Just my experience.

Thanks for answering.  That's about what I thought.  I am losing respect daily for Strickland.  He should really put his house in order, starting with the Anthonys. When he allows this kind of behaviour and it is shown acceptable to him on national TV, it doesn't make him, the judiciary, or Florida look very good to the rest of the country, IMO.  I know that I am from a different generation, but good manners are good manners, whatever.

i went to court for a speeding ticket and brought in a bottle of water...had to throw it away..no food, no water bottles, no cell phones, no gum...this was traffic court..in the south/(now mid-west according to some reports?)

I live in Florida and have been to court many times in 2 different counties.  I always wore business like attire and looked professional at all times.  My husband always wore a suit, our lawyer was dressed very professional as well.  Actually, every attorney I met was.  Never would I dream of chewing gum and drinking water that was not offered to me.  Never would I wear a sleeveless shirt.  The courthouses is cold anyway. I've seen some poorly dressed lawyers but I think that was just a matter of taste.  I do think judges make some allowances for "economic" status reasons. 

I disagree that Florida is more relaxed.  I think Strickland's court room is though.  I am shocked to see what Cindy and George are able to get away with.   ::MonkeyNoNo::
