I don't think they would be laying the pump hoses. They are usually close to the top of the water to prevent mud, debris, sticks etc from going into the impeller of the pump. JMO

That looks more like a grid search to me. Again, jmo.

In that video were the guys were doing the grid search, didn't it show the pumps also? I still think something major is happening because you don't suck a pond dry for nothing, something has got to be there, and I don't think it's just evidence they are looking for either ( unless they already have found Haleigh). No you don't interrogate someone to find out where the evidence is in a missing child case, you interrogate to find out where the missing child is!

Hi Leslee.  I agree.  I fear the evidence they are looking for is sweet Haleigh.   ::MonkeyTears::
IIRC they said it would take until Monday to complete the drainage of the pond.

It took a number of days to drain the pond in Aruba.  They say they found nothing.  Sadly, after 4 and a half years, Natalee has not been returned to her loved ones.
I hope this does not happen with Haleigh.

If the story is true about a vehicle and Hayleigh was inside,  ::MonkeyWaa:: Then they already have what they need. The rest could be peripheral evidence. It may reach in to the THURSDAY arrest. Saturday morning, the sheriff's office issued a statement denying rumors that Haleigh's body was found, but they were continuing to search the 5-acre pond and surrounding woods off U.S. 19 south of Palatka for evidence in the case.

OK, you know what, Cobra is really getting on my nerves, he is jumping from one thing to another and saying nothing all at the same time, he really needs to stop, he acts like his little venture into the woods with TN was  a big deal, heck I can walk out my front door and go under the barbed wire fence ajoining my property and be in much more thicker and wetter woods then Cobra was that day....he needs to go back to bounty hunting and just stop...JMO.


The people that are argueing and talking about Ger taking photo's are probably the first ones that jump over to where she posts them at to look at them, Leave her alone I say, she isnt hurting anyone and is just getting pictures for those that dont live in this area to look at so they can realize how the land and things are here, give me a break, I can think of alot more to be mad about then someone going out on their own time and using their own money to take a few pictures, most people that are in that town are gonna go look to see whats happening just out of curiosity, so why cant Ger snap a few pics while she's at it.....JMO


The news reporters need to double check what they are reporting before saying anything, or they need new jobs too, how hard can it be to double check what you are about to report so that it is at least factual....IMO

and last but not least, if the search of the pond is really over and nothing of value was found then the LE in Putnam are really stupid, I cant and wont for one minute believ that they went through all this time and money to search that pond on a tip, that they just pulled out of a stack of 400 other tips...no way.....thats crazy if thats what they want us to believe, they knew something was here, they were certain of it, and it wasnt no darn pot plants either, they just stumbled upon them by accident at the same area...something is up, and it just hasnt been told yet....IMO

That is a boom mounted on a trailer for the pump. If you look when the boom is up, you can see some thing round on the end of the tube. That is the screen made out of heavy steel. The boom is to keep the opening of the tube up near the surface of the water.

LE  dug up on Marie's property too due to a hunch or a clue or whatever, a horse being buried  and found nothing there either...I suppose they have to follow every tip or idea as to where Haleigh could be...so, I guess if they found nothing in the pond, then they found nothing in the pond...If they (LE)are telling us the truth about why they dug on Marie's property and found nothing and we believe that, then do we believe them about this as well?
There was nothing in the pond it appears imo... it is/was another wild goose chase? dunno...have to just go by what LE is saying I guess...or are we selective in what we believe that LE says cause it isn't what we want to believe? just askin

entirely different senario, once again......Marie asked for the search of her property to be done..........OK say someone was brought into custody for the death of HaLeigh and a body had never been found , then when this all went to court that person attourney would be looking for any little loophole to call fowl about their arrest and one thing just might be....did LE ever search the Mothers or Grandmothers land......and now if that should happen the courts can say now...YES it was.......

One thing I have learned from being on the threads, is that "No good deed goes unpunished." As hard as people like GER tries, there is always someone that is going to knock her. Dont know , but they both live in and area where they have neighbors and very little land and so Im sure that would be the answer should that come up in court, their propereties are right there where anyone would notice someone digging a hole, Marie's land is very big and spread out.......thats the reason for the search to be more important..

I don't know what or who to believe, Cookie.  I don't know if they found anything in the pond.  But LE denied the pond search had anything to with Haleigh, then finally said it did.  So, the only thing I can do is wait & see if anything comes from this search at a later date.

Don't give up yet, FATCAT. I am on the branch with you. I don't for a minute think they have expended this much time, effort and money for this search. They will be going over this pond with a fine tooth comb now that it is drained. The pumps may be gone, but I don't think LE is finished. JMO

Agree.  Hubby had to have a pond drained on a military base when he was the CO - and it was very costly.  Took 2 days and many manhours.    Unfortunately, a little boy drowned in the pond he had drained.    LE wouldn't go through all that without good info.  JMO.

Jessica was buried under the porch and the person responcible for her death was not a family member...........

It is mho that the panelists on Blogger Talk Radio are flying by the seat of their pants at times.  While listening to what they were stating, I realized that they either knew more than what is being reported in the news or they had not taking the time to read what is being reported in the news and by reporters that are there at the scene. I listen to Blog Talk Radio in order to see if I can gain just a tad bit of info out of all the salacious crap that is uttered by some of the panelist.

The following is what was reported in this morning's news articles regarding the search of the pond.

No one was out at the site searching Saturday. At this time, there is no word on when they will arrive or when they will stop pumping out water, but we can tell you that there are many rumors going on about this search, however, the sheriff's office wants to put out there they have not found a body.

PALATKA, Fla. -- The Putnam County Sheriff's Office said it received information over the weekend that there is possible physical evidence in the Haleigh Cummings investigation located in a large pond south of Palatka.

A WESH 2 caller said crews were searching in an undeveloped subdivision in Putnam County called Mondex on Saturday and Sunday.

"It's a place back in here in the ponds that (are) further on down, where they go to have their fun in the mud holes, but very few people come back in here on the north end of the Mondex," said Putnam County resident Ronald Charles Ussery.

Locals said it wouldn't be a shock if Haleigh's body was found in the area.

"I wouldn't be surprised, because there are so many rumors that she's out here," said Putnam County resident Brooke Owens. "We've been hearing so much, so I wouldn't be surprised."

PCSO Lt. Johnny Greenwood said Saturday that Sheriff Jeff Hardy wanted to quell any rumors that Haleigh's body had been recovered. He also said that the PCSO has received numerous calls regarding a search currently being conducted south of Palatka.

"It has been our position that we will not discuss operations or searches prior to their completion," Greenwood said.

Saturday's search is the result of one of more than 4,000 tips received in this case, Greenwood said.

Divers from the PCSO, St. Johns County Sheriff's Office and Clay County Sheriff's Office conducted underwater searches in the area. In an attempt to assist the divers, the decision was made to lower the water level in the pond to reduce the search area, Greenwood said.
It could take some time for the pumps to keep working and the water to recede. That will help searchers look for evidence and possibly find out what happened to Haleigh.

The brother of the missing girl's baby sitter spoke with investigators this week after being arrested on a grand theft charge. Although the sheriff's office said it wasn't related to Haleigh's disappearance, Hank Croslin agreed to be questioned about that case. Authorities said three other inmates also were questioned.

Greenwood said, although coincidental, the recent interviews did not provide the information which led to the search. However, he would not release any details about the interviews.

"Although we continue to interview people in this case every single day, there have been no significant developments to report," Greenwood said.

Croslin's sister, Misty, was baby-sitting Haleigh when the girl vanished from her father's mobile home in February.

Haleigh's paternal great-grandmother said the police department hasn't been very forthcoming with information on its investigation.
"We want Haleigh home, we want Haleigh found, and we would appreciate the sheriff's department doing whatever they can and whatever they have done," said Haleigh's paternal great-grandmother Annette Sykes. "But the fact of the matter is we don't know anything that they've done because they haven't bothered to tell us. All we get is they are following leads. Well, they've been following leads since the day they she was gone. What does that mean?"

Sykes said she knew nothing about this weekend's search.

"Well, I'm following leads, and that's exactly what I did yesterday when I went down there -- I followed a lead," she said.

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- Dive crews in Putnam County wrapped up their search of a lake in the Haleigh Cummings case, Sunday.

Authorities spent 20 hours draining the lake, and search dogs walked along the muddy bottom looking for evidence.

But investigators won't say if they found anything related to the disappearance of five year-old Haleigh Cummings.

According to Putnam County officials, the search was prompted by over 4,000 tips they have received in the case.

Haleigh Cummings disappeared from her home in Satsuma in February.

Thursday night, authorities questioned Hank Croslin Jr., who was arrested on unrelated charges, but officials say that interview did not provide any information related to the search.

Hank Croslin Jr. is the brother of Misty Croslin-Cummings. Misty Croslin-Cummings is Haleigh’s stepmother and the last person to see her alive.

PALATKA, Fla. -- Investigators say they finished draining and searching a Putnam County pond Saturday. Maj. Gary Bowling with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office tells Channel 4 that crews found no evidence in relation to the search for 6-year-old Haleigh Cummings.

Saturday morning, the sheriff's office issued a statement denying rumors that Haleigh's body was found, but they were continuing to search the 5-acre pond and surrounding woods off U.S. 19 south of Palatka for evidence in the case.

A man tells Channel 4 the sheriff's office asked his pumping company to drain a pond off U.S Highway 19 south of Palatka.

Haleigh disappeared from her home in Satsuma in February.

Area residents said that while the pond is a 35-minute drive from the mobile home where Haleigh was last seen, it's not that far from water access across the river from Satsuma.

The Putnam County Sheriff's office statement said the search was not the result of any information received in a Thursday night interview with Hank Croslin Jr., who was arrested earlier in the week on charges unrelated to this case.

Croslin is the brother of Haleigh's stepmother, who is the last person to see the girl before she disappeared. Croslin's wife, Lindsey, and two others were to come in on Friday for questioning.

Detectives said they also questioned three other inmates about the girl’s disappearance.

Misty Croslin, who has since married Haleigh's father, put Haleigh to bed in a Satsuma mobile home the night of Feb. 9. Before dawn the next morning, she was gone.

JMO .. but if you are looking for a gun, a body, a blanket, I don't think you'd necessarily do it this way!  Maybe the local monkeys know whether this is a mucky bottomed pond or whether it has pretty solid footing, but most ponds here in Florida, I think, are pretty mucky.  Tramping through it is apt to bury what you're looking for!  Now, if you're searching for a vehicle, then maybe you DO do it this way??  Whad'ya think?

And about the car, I just dont know what to think.....no one has reported a car missing that I know of, and why would anyone run a car off into that pond unless it ran over HaLeigh.......or she was hurt inside it.....other then that there;s no reason to and if someone did run her over, then that would make sense, but who and in who's car,   and now I remember the guy that was talking about hearing the loud car in the neighborhood that night,,,,hmm, wish he had gotten a look at it.,....

That's what I posted Friday night, because if they were looking for instance for small bones, they would shove them further in the muck and possibly never find them which is the exact reason Tim M didn't want the 4 wheelers looking for Caylee when that area was flooded.

IIRC....it was psoted here in SM...yesterday or Friday that there was no entrance to this pond that was big enough for a car to get close to this pond. I know LE had to get a bulldozer to make a clearance to get the pumps in there. So how did a car get into the pond?

The entrance to the pond was indeed there, just not big enough for the big truck carryin the equipment, it was like a two wheel path road,but it was accesable, and I think they just made it wider to accomadate all the stuff they were bringing in..

PALATKA — When Melissa Goudy learned the caravan of law enforcement vehicles that swept past Messer’s Westside Bait and Tackle late in the week were headed to a search for the still missing Haleigh Cummings, it hurt already bruised emotions, she said.

“My heart is in my feet and has been for months,” the 33-year-old clerk said.

Sunday, workers finished draining a pond on Florida 19 south of Palatka in the latest move in a seven-month search for evidence in the case of the missing Satsuma girl. The kindergartner was 5 when she was reported missing early on Feb 10.

Lt. Johnny Greenwood of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said a foot search of the pond bottom was being conducted Sunday.

He said any results from the search would be revealed today. Authorities have not said what they are looking for.

Goudy lives near the pond that was one of the larger of many in the low, wooded area on the south side of Florida 19 just south of Palatka.

 “Just like all the others that live out there, I want to know what happened,” Goudy said. “There’s a lot of people in this town that want to put closure to it.”

She said she fears what will be found.

“It’s not going to be good when they find her,” she said. “They know what happened to her but they’re not saying anything because they don’t have the evidence.”

The pond search began about the time investigators interviewed Hank 'Tommy’ Croslin Jr., whose sister is now Ronald Cummings wife and was the one who reported Haleigh missing in February. At the same time, detectives also interviewed Kristina 'Nay Nay’ Prevatt, an acquaintance of Cummings' wife, Misty Croslin Cummings.

Authorities said the interviews were not related to the search.

At the U.S. Veterans Post 104 on Florida 19, post commander Jerry Schallenberg said searching the pond bottom for evidence will likely be a difficult job.

“It’s full of beer bottles and God knows what else out there,” he said.

He said the post was willing to provide food for the crews but that authorities wanted to be careful not to draw attention to the search at first.

Officers with sheriff’s offices in Putnam, Clay and St. Johns joined in the search that used pumps to remove the water and redirect it into the St. Johns River.

The national spotlight the case has drawn has also shined on the rural county.

Schallenberg’s wife, Terry Schallenberg, said that light has not always been favorable but she believes Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy has done as well as could be expected with a small department.

“Putnam County is not a bunch of yahoos,” she said.

Earlier mass speculation prompted the Sheriff's Office to provide some updates Saturday. The search is the result of one of more than 4,000 tips received. Recent information included that there is possible physical evidence in the pond.

The Sheriff's Office said the search was not prompted by the coincidental interviews with Hank Croslin Jr., a recently jailed brother of Misty Cummings, or her former acquaintance Kristina Prevatt.

On Friday, authorities with the Sheriff's Office said the search was merely a training or marijuana eradication exercise.

Saturday, they said divers were looking for possible evidence and that the pond, described by neighbors as 2 to 3 acres, was being drained to shrink the area for them.

The St. Johns County and Clay County sheriff's offices are assisting in the search.

St. Johns Sheriff David Shoar said his agency was called mid-week and asked for help from their special-operations team that includes divers and the air unit.

To improve access to the pond in the rural area off Stokes Landing Road, an access road was bulldozed into the woods off Florida 19. Neighbors said the pond is popular for fishing and accessible on a pair of narrow dirt roads. It is known locally as the L-Shaped Pond.

I don't think the search is over yet either.  And after watching the video of it drained I doubt a car was pulled from it either.  A car pulled from there would have left 2 long deep drag marks that would be very easily seen from that helicopter view.  You can see where the tube pumping the water out lay and one other single mark off to the left in the wide view but no wheel drag marks atleast none I saw. This is purely my speculation,  jmo.

My own opinion, but the PCSO would be well served to be more forthcoming with their info. It does them no good, and only discredits them, when they put out erroneous information after the residents know what they are saying is not true. I can understand not telling all the details, but to deny for a day or two there was anything going on at the MONDEX, after people could see the activity of the pumps coming in and the path being made wider insults their intelligence and ours. To say they were looking for pot plants was bogus from the get-go.

There have been few, if any, real press conferences/news releases since Haleigh went missing. If the LE would have taken the time to explain truthfully some of the things that could be seen happening, even at the first, would not only help them, but make more people co-operative. Who wants to tell the LE anything when they are publicly lying, for whatever reason.

Therefore, the rumor mill, gossip and untruths run amoke. When the LE loses the public trust, they lose any hope of someone coming forward. I look at what they say now with a jaundiced eye, and usually don't believe what they are saying, after the fact, is the truth. It is a shame.   ::MonkeyNoNo::

Wow, with all the activity the past few days, I really thought there would be some breaking news.  What an emotional roller coaster.

Prayers for Haleigh.  May she come home soon.

Yes Jennifer Bauer reporting that people close to the investigation tells her that Tommy Croslin led LE to the pond.  Jennifer goes on to state that the source/s say that they were told that it was not HaLeigh's related. It was about some stolen property.  Also that a lady that lives in that area had been watching the activity at the pond and said she saw bulldozers, pumps and a flatbed truck taking away a car.

It's all become soooooooooo confusing....   ::MonkeyConfused::  Am inclined to believe the locals sitting there watching, over what LE is reporting these days, just cuz the locals probably don't care either way whether the Croslins/Cummings go at it or not.  They are probably as disgusted by it all, if not more so, as those who aren't local.  IMO.
   

Day Two of Pond Search in Haleigh Investigation

PUTNAM COUNTY, FL -- Work continued for the second day at a 3 acre pond deep in the woods south of Palatka.

The pond was completely drained as the Putnam County Sheriff's Office searches for physical evidence connected to the Haleigh Cummings disappearance.

Investigators walked almost every inch of the mud looking for clues in the pond and surrounding area.

Haleigh's family say they are very frustrated with the investigation. "The Sheriff's Office doesn't tell us anything and I'm fed up with it," says great-grandmother Annette Sykes.

Sykes says she went to the pond but couldn't get answers as to whether they were searching for Haleigh.

Neighbors in the area say they were also kept in the dark about the choppers circling all day and the heavy equipment in the woods around their homes.

The Sheriff's Office is saying only that a tip led them to the pond and they are following up.

Sykes says she just wants to be kept updated. "This family has been through hell. We just want Haleigh home, we want her found."

And yes, I agree with you.  It had to have been costly.  And not something done based on one out of thousands of leads.  Also agree that something's up with the vehicle taken out of the area.  Betcha we'll be hearing 'the real story' on that, as soon as one or more arrests are made. 

Only thing I can think of is that it was an 'oopsy', accidentally or on-purpose, that maybe they were hoping folks wouldn't catch?

PUTNAM COUNTY, FL -- Concerned neighbors say they haven't received any information from police as to why they are draining a pond in their neighborhood.

Dean Leplant walks his dog around this pond almost every morning. He's lived in the area for 15 years. On his walk today, he noticed a lot more commotion than normal. He says this pond is typically quiet.

Today, two big machines are draining water from the pond

"It just got me worried because I don't know what's going on," said Leplant.

Wayne Ricks and his family often hang out at the pond. Ricks says he's concerned too.

"My son swam in this pond 3 weeks ago," said Ricks.

Ricks says the pond looked a lot different then. Neighbors say police took over this area Thursday.

"We've seen lots of law enforcement officers in and out of here and they are pumping the pond and not telling anyone what they are doing," said neighbor Nikki Ricks.

Neighbors say although they don't know what investigators hope to find, they hope it leads to Haleigh.

Sheriff's Office quiet about pond in Haleigh case
Team searches pond bottom; results could be revealed Monday


PALATKA — When Melissa Goudy learned the caravan of law enforcement vehicles that swept past Messer’s Westside Bait and Tackle late in the week were headed to a search for the still missing Haleigh Cummings, it hurt already bruised emotions, she said.

“My heart is in my feet and has been for months,” the 33-year-old clerk said.

Sunday, workers finished draining a pond on Florida 19 south of Palatka in the latest move in a seven-month search for evidence in the case of the missing Satsuma girl. The kindergartner was 5 when she was reported missing early on Feb 10.

Lt. Johnny Greenwood of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said a foot search of the pond bottom was being conducted Sunday.

He said any results from the search would be revealed today. Authorities have not said what they are looking for.

Goudy lives near the pond that was one of the larger of many in the low, wooded area on the south side of Florida 19 just south of Palatka.

 “Just like all the others that live out there, I want to know what happened,” Goudy said. “There’s a lot of people in this town that want to put closure to it.”

She said she fears what will be found.

“It’s not going to be good when they find her,” she said. “They know what happened to her but they’re not saying anything because they don’t have the evidence.”

The pond search began about the time investigators interviewed Hank 'Tommy’ Croslin Jr., whose sister is now Ronald Cummings wife and was the one who reported Haleigh missing in February. At the same time, detectives also interviewed Kristina 'Nay Nay’ Prevatt, an acquaintance of Cummings' wife, Misty Croslin Cummings.

Authorities said the interviews were not related to the search.

At the U.S. Veterans Post 104 on Florida 19, post commander Jerry Schallenberg said searching the pond bottom for evidence will likely be a difficult job.

“It’s full of beer bottles and God knows what else out there,” he said.

He said the post was willing to provide food for the crews but that authorities wanted to be careful not to draw attention to the search at first.

Officers with sheriff’s offices in Putnam, Clay and St. Johns joined in the search that used pumps to remove the water and redirect it into the St. Johns River.

The national spotlight the case has drawn has also shined on the rural county.

Schallenberg’s wife, Terry Schallenberg, said that light has not always been favorable but she believes Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy has done as well as could be expected with a small department.

“Putnam County is not a bunch of yahoos,” she said.

 Updates

Earlier mass speculation prompted the Sheriff's Office to provide some updates Saturday. The search is the result of one of more than 4,000 tips received. Recent information included that there is possible physical evidence in the pond.

The Sheriff's Office said the search was not prompted by the coincidental interviews with Hank Croslin Jr., a recently jailed brother of Misty Cummings, or her former acquaintance Kristina Prevatt.

On Friday, authorities with the Sheriff's Office said the search was merely a training or marijuana eradication exercise.

Saturday, they said divers were looking for possible evidence and that the pond, described by neighbors as 2 to 3 acres, was being drained to shrink the area for them.

The St. Johns County and Clay County sheriff's offices are assisting in the search.

St. Johns Sheriff David Shoar said his agency was called mid-week and asked for help from their special-operations team that includes divers and the air unit.

To improve access to the pond in the rural area off Stokes Landing Road, an access road was bulldozed into the woods off Florida 19. Neighbors said the pond is popular for fishing and accessible on a pair of narrow dirt roads. It is known locally as the L-Shaped Pond.

Can someone tell me who this kristina girl is? I have not heard anything about her. And what if anything do we know about her. And does anyone know if the po po are gonna drain the whole pond? That had better be a very rare and expensive car to justify two police dept's being there since Thursday and the cost to rent the pumpers and operators to drain it.  You would think with something as large and solid as a car they could have taken arieal photo's/xray before spending all this time and manpower.

rumor has it a car was in the pond that was drained. I am to the point I don't believe anything I hear and 9/10ths of what I see.

I'm getting a sinking feeling that maybe this pond drain was truly a futile effort.  Wonder which S.O.B. gave LE false info and ended up causing all this commotion?  But one thing I do know ... if my kid was missing and LE was draining a pond .. Kristina Prevatt ( Nay Nay ) is a friend of Misty's. In the days preceeding Feb 9, 2009, Misty and Ron had a fight.  Misty, Nay Nay and ( WBG ) Greg Paige and some other girl went out on a two or three day drug and booze bender.
Kristina has her own problems with drugs, etc. She was arrested more than once for drugs. And is is Putnam County jail at the present time.

Cobra bailed her out the first time. Why they are interested in her is that they think that maybe just maybe she saw Misty on the Monday. Same goes for Greg. He said that he was to hook up with Misty on the Sunday, but she jammed. Misty and Ron got back together.

When I was reading at Art Harris's site when they were speaking to these people, it seemed that none of them really could say for sure where they were or weren't. Except none of them admitted to being at the trailer on the Monday as the party was over.

I,for one,have had my fill of misinformation throughout this case, especially this weekend. It

I sure as heck don't understand what they , PCSD has been doing all these months. These events of the weekend do not inspire any confidence at all
in any of the LE down there. Did they think they could have helicopters, bulldozers, pond draining equipment and all of the activity in that area and not be prepared for a media onslaught. As far as letting the families know what they are doing before they do it, no LE would dislcose any information  as the main suspect is married to Ron.

Hmmm... not sure.  Typically what is used to mark 'evidence' are little flags of different colors.  With yellow tape on the stick, my first guess would be marking a hazard, etc.

on this site it talks about some evidence wrapped or entangeled in a car part makes my mind wonder maybe Haleigh got hit by a car and so they dumped the car in the lake to get rid of any evidence....

Dive Teams Looking For Evidence In Pond Off U.S. 19 South Of Palatka

PALATKA, Fla. -- Dive crews searching a Putnam County pond and crews brought in to drain the water worked overnight Friday in a flurry of activity the sheriff's office confirmed is connected to the case of missing 6-year-old Haleigh Cummings.

Local 6 news partner WJXT in Jacksonville reports the sheriff's office remained mum Friday on the search -- even calling it a routine training exercise -- as rumors spread that a body had been found.

Saturday morning, the sheriff's office issued a statement saying Haleigh had not been found, but they were searching the pond and surrounding woods off U.S. 19 south of Palatka for evidence in the case.

"The current search is the result of one of the over 4,000 tips received in this case," Lt. Johnny Greenwood wrote. "The Putnam County Sheriff's (Office) has received information that there is possible physical evidence in the Haleigh Cummings investigation located in a body of water south of Palatka. Divers from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, and Clay County Sheriff's Office, are conducting underwater searches in this area. In an attempt to assist the divers, the decision has been made to lower the water level in the pond to reduce the search area."

Haleigh disappeared from her home in Satsuma in February.

The sheriff's office said they would not make any additional statements or answer any questions until the search was completed
Law enforcement officers worked late Friday night at the site, prompting speculation about a development in the search for the Satsuma girl.

WJXT was told by a man whose employees were pumping water at the request of the sheriff's office they would be working at the scene all night. The man said the sheriff's office would not tell him what they were looking for.

Area residents said that while the pond is a 35-minute drive from the mobile home where Haleigh was last seen, but it's not that far from water access across the river from Satsuma.

Greenwood's statement said the search was not the result of any information received in a Thursday night interview with Hank Croslin Jr., who was arrested earlier in the week on charges unrelated to this case.Croslin is the brother of Haleigh's stepmother, who is the last person to see the girl before she disappeared.

Detectives said they also questioned three other inmates about the girl’s disappearance.

Misty Croslin, who has since married Haleigh's father, put Haleigh to bed in a Satsuma mobile home the night of Feb. 9. Before dawn the next morning, she was gone.

Haleigh Update: Pond Drained Near Palatka, No Body, No Car

Sunday, workers finished draining a pond on Florida 19 south of Palatka in the latest move in a seven-month search for evidence in the case of the missing Satsuma girl. Haleigh Cummings was 5 when she was reported missing early on Feb 10.

Lt. Johnny Greenwood of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said a foot search of the pond bottom was being conducted Sunday.

He said any results from the search would be revealed today. Authorities have not said what they are looking for.

PALATKA, Fla. -- The Putnam County Sheriff's Office said it received information over the weekend that there is possible physical evidence in the Haleigh Cummings investigation located in a large pond south of Palatka.

A WESH 2 caller said crews were searching in an undeveloped subdivision in Putnam County called Mondex on Saturday and Sunday.
"It's a place back in here in the ponds that (are) further on down, where they go to have their fun in the mud holes, but very few people come back in here on the north end of the Mondex," said Putnam County resident Ronald Charles Ussery.

Locals said it wouldn't be a shock if Haleigh's body was found in the area.
"I wouldn't be surprised, because there are so many rumors that she's out here," said Putnam County resident Brooke Owens. "We've been hearing so much, so I wouldn't be surprised."

PCSO Lt. Johnny Greenwood said Saturday that Sheriff Jeff Hardy wanted to quell any rumors that Haleigh's body had been recovered. He also said that the PCSO has received numerous calls regarding a search currently being conducted south of Palatka.

"It has been our position that we will not discuss operations or searches prior to their completion," Greenwood said.

Saturday's search is the result of one of more than 4,000 tips received in this case, Greenwood said.

Divers from the PCSO, St. Johns County Sheriff's Office and Clay County Sheriff's Office conducted underwater searches in the area. In an attempt to assist the divers, the decision was made to lower the water level in the pond to reduce the search area, Greenwood said.

It took some time for the pumps to work and the water to recede, but it eventually drained, helping searchers look for evidence and possibly find out what happened to Haleigh.
The brother of the missing girl's baby sitter spoke with investigators this week after being arrested on a grand theft charge. Although the sheriff's office said it wasn't related to Haleigh's disappearance, Hank Croslin agreed to be questioned about that case. Authorities said three other inmates also were questioned.

Greenwood said, although coincidental, the recent interviews did not provide the information which led to the search. However, he would not release any details about the interviews.

"Although we continue to interview people in this case every single day, there have been no significant developments to report," Greenwood said.

Croslin's sister, Misty, was baby-sitting Haleigh when the girl vanished from her father's mobile home in February.

Haleigh's paternal great-grandmother said the police department hasn't been very forthcoming with information on its investigation.

"We want Haleigh home, we want Haleigh found, and we would appreciate the sheriff's department doing whatever they can and whatever they have done," said Haleigh's paternal great-grandmother Annette Sykes. "But the fact of the matter is we don't know anything that they've done because they haven't bothered to tell us. All we get is they are following leads. Well, they've been following leads since the day they she was gone. What does that mean?"
Sykes said she knew nothing about this weekend's search.

"Well, I'm following leads, and that's exactly what I did yesterday when I went down there -- I followed a lead," she said.

The search for physical evidence through Sunday night, as the last person to see the Haleigh was brought into the Putnam County Sheriff's Office. WESH 2 News has learned that Misty Croslin, the wife of the child's biological father, was picked up by investigators, brought to the sheriff's office and released hours later.

PALATKA — Searchers came up empty and finished searching a Putnam County pond south of Palatka for evidence in the case of missing Haleigh Cummings.

"There is nothing in there," Maj. Gary Bowling of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said this morning.

Bowling said water was being allowed to seep back into the 5-acre pond and that no evidence in the case was discovered. The L-shaped pond is just south of Palatka off Florida 19 and was the focus of a search that began late last week.

The extent of the search that included bringing in pumps, widening of a woods road and assistance from two surrounding counties led residents to speculate on what could be happening in the seven-month old case.

When Melissa Goudy learned the caravan of law enforcement vehicles that swept past Messer’s Westside Bait and Tackle were conducting a search in the case, it hurt already bruised emotions, she said.

“My heart is in my feet and has been for months,” the 33-year-old clerk said.

Bowling said much of the intense interest was driven by publicity the activity generated.

"We did a search last weekend and the weekend before," related to the case, he said. "We do searches all the time."

Bowling said a decision was made to drain the pond rather than just put divers in the water. He said the search had been planned.

"We realized it would be quicker to pump," he said.

He would not say what evidence investigators hoped to find. He said he expects the department to conduct another search next weekend.

Haleigh was reported missing early Feb. 10 from her home in Satsuma. Her father's girlfriend, Misty Croslin, called 911 to say she had woken to find the 5-year-old kindergartner gone. Croslin has since married Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings.

Goudy lives near the pond that was one of the larger of many in the low, wooded area on the south side of Florida 19 just south of Palatka.

 “Just like all the others that live out there, I want to know what happened,” Goudy said. “There’s a lot of people in this town that want to put closure to it.”

On Sunday she feared what might be found.

“It’s not going to be good when they find her,” she said. “They know what happened to her but they’re not saying anything because they don’t have the evidence.”

The pond search began about the time investigators interviewed Hank "Tommy" Croslin Jr., who is in jail on and unrelated charge and whose sister is now married to Cummings.

At the same time Hank Croslin was interviewed, detectives also interviewed Kristina "Nay Nay" Prevatt, an acquaintance of Cummings' new wife.

Authorities said the interviews were not related to the search.

At the U.S. Veterans Post 104 on Florida 19 on Sunday, post commander Jerry Schallenberg said the post was willing to provide food for the crews but that authorities wanted to be careful not to draw attention to the search at first.

Sheriff's offices in Clay and St. Johns joined in the search that pumped the water into the swamps surrounding the pond that is a popular, though secluded, fishing spot.

The national spotlight the case has drawn has also shined on the rural county.

Schallenberg’s wife, Terry, said that light has not always been favorable but she believes Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy has done as well as could be expected with a small department.

“Putnam County is not a bunch of yahoos,” she said.

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A new search for Haleigh Cummings turned up nothing. Detectives searched a pond off of State Road 19 in Putnam County over the weekend.


Detectives said they were led to the pond as a result of more than 4,000 tips. Investigators are staying tight lipped about the search, but say they received information that physical evidence may have been in the water.

Annette Sykes is Haleigh's great-grandmother. She said that the family is being kept in the dark about the investigation.

"Were just pretty much frustrated that the sheriffs department don't let us know anything. They don't tell us anything," said Sykes.

Just thinking out loud here.  For LE to go to the expense of draining that pond, wouldn't you expect them to have fairly concrete proof they would find the evidence they were told was there?  Would it have been appropriate for "whomever" gave the tip to have been subjected to a LDT or provide something to substantiate the claim of evidence in the pond?  I'm so confused.   ::MonkeyConfused::

PALATKA, Fla. - Investigators say they finished draining and searching a Putnam County pond Saturday. Maj. Gary Bowling with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office tells Channel 4 that crews found no evidence in relation to the search for 6-year-old Haleigh Cummings.

Saturday morning, the sheriff's office issued a statement denying rumors that Haleigh's body was found, but they were continuing to search the 5-acre pond and surrounding woods off U.S. 19 south of Palatka for evidence in the case

Haleigh disappeared from her home in Satsuma in February.

Area residents said that while the pond is a 35-minute drive from the mobile home where Haleigh was last seen, it's not that far from water access across the river from Satsuma.

The Putnam County Sheriff's office statement said the search was not the result of any information received in a Thursday night interview with Hank Croslin Jr., who was arrested earlier in the week on charges unrelated to this case.

Croslin is the brother of Haleigh's stepmother, who is the last person to see the girl before she disappeared. Croslin's wife, Lindsey, and two others were to come in on Friday for questioning.

Detectives said they also questioned three other inmates about the girl’s disappearance.

Misty Croslin, who has since married Haleigh's father, put Haleigh to bed in a Satsuma mobile home the night of Feb. 9. Before dawn the next morning, she was gone.

You know if she did skip yesterday's, which again I find odd to have on a Sunday, I could completely understand due to the fact that she is waiting for her daughter's body or evidence of anything having to do with her disappearnce. I can only imagine the fear and worry that she is living right now. It would be kind of like me skipping an appt for my son to have a therapy session while I was waiting in the NICU knowing Eli was dying any day.........IF it's true, I'd giver her a pass on that one.

Authorities say Haleigh was last seen by neighbors about 8 p.m. on Feb. 9. She was reported missing about 3 a.m. Feb. 10 by Misty Croslin, her babysitter and then girlfriend to Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings. He was working a late shift at PDM Bridge, an industrial firm in Palatka.

As for this week's search at the Mondex, Bowling said we're searching it for evidence in the Haleigh Cummings case.

He said law enforcement's focus on the site was prompted by tips and information from detective interviews.

We've had to prioritize tips in this case, Bowling said."This body of water has been brought up in a couple of occasions."

Based on the information, authorities began searching it Thursday because "the weather is right and we've got enough personnel," Bowling added.

This week, investigators have been interviewing the babysitter's brother Hank Croslin Jr., who goes by Tommy, since his arrest Tuesday on a grand theft charge.

Officers also have interviewed Ronald Cummings numerous times. Both he and Haleigh's mother, Crystal Sheffield, have been cleared of suspicion in the disappearance, authorities say.

But Misty Croslin, who married Ronald Cummings in March, has been described by the sheriff's office as a person with key information. Investigators also say she has given inconsistent accounts of her activities on the night of Feb. 9.

How could the county put out a news release stating the the search was unrelated.  No comment is one thing but ... an official statement.

PCSO Addresses Rumors In Haleigh Case

I spoke with Lt. Johnny Greenwood and others at the PSCO about the list of wild rumors took on lives of their own after authorities revealed they were looking for evidence of Haleigh Cummings in the L pond they were draining at the Mondex south and west of Palatka off US 19 over the weekend.

Rumor 1) A submerged car had been found with skeletal remains of a small child inside.

"No"

Rumor 2) A car was taken from the pond on a flatbed truck. 

"No car was taken from the pond. There was a car towed on a flat bed from a residence, but not by us or for us. I would suspect that the person that owned the car had it towed for whatever reason. We have nothing to do with it or know who the person was."

Rumor 3) Nay Nay Prevatt had told officers that the “car” belonged to Greg Page.

"No"

Rumor 4) Greg Page’s photo appeared in the jail booking log as Tyrone Djuan Hunter. Was he arrested in this case?

"Don't know about the jail photo, Page was not arrested or questioned as a result of the Cummings case"

Rumor 5) Misty blew her brains out.

"As of today, we are not working a death to Misty"

Rumor 6) Timmy Croslin came back to the area from Mass and was causing trouble—name heard on the scanner.

"Apparently Ronald made a complaint against Timmy for harassing phone calls"

Local news is saying nothing was found, but after the way LE sought to mislead the media and public in the last few days, I think I will wait a while before I believe any statements from them

Brenda–Now you can understand why I don’t always jump on the bandwagon to headline the latest tip or rumor, unless I can verify it…Came close to buying into some supposedly respected bloggers’ “reliable” info challenging the police timeline of Ronald’s last day at work…One took the word of another he believed to be so standup, so impeccable, only she wasn’t. Hadn’t bothered to go beyond one source, who happened to have had had a drug record no one bothered to tell me, if they even checked, nor did that person have police sources to check with…or others to triangulate. Yet, they were mocking the fact I didn’t have it or wouldn’t put it up…but, by God, they did.

Turns out they wanted to believe–who doesn’t–but that doesn’t make it so…In the process, they were careless, arrogant, smug –and wrong.

Had I gone to press with it, it would have accused LE of something unfair and unfounded, not to mention a relative of a missing child who has been taken off the suspect list and cleared, and done untold damage to our credibility.

I spent two days trying to chase it down. Huge waste of my time, but it does give me a way to measure how big a box of salt I will use on tips from certain tipsters in the future.

Never did get an apology, or an oops, or see them retract or update. Why? Because they didn’t have it in the first place nor sources to debunk their own story in the second.

Enough.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office has received numerous requests for information and interviews regarding the Haleigh Cummings investigation, and actions taken by the Sheriff’s Office this past weekend.

As previously mentioned, the search was conducted as the result of one of the over 4,000 tips received thus far in this case.

The pond is an area called the “Mondex” which is located south of Palatka. A pond in the area was drained entirely for the purpose of conducting a thorough search.

The area was searched by investigators, and nothing of evidentiary value was recovered. Although various resources were utilized to conduct this search, it was just one of many operations conducted in this investigation.

Due to the sensitivity of this investigation, the name of the person providing the tip and the physical evidence alleged to be in the pond, will not be released. 

 

Members of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office will not be participating in any formal interviews or providing statements regarding this weekend’s search.

We appreciate the media for keeping Haleigh in the spotlight, but the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office is concentrating on finding Haleigh Cummings and returning her home to her family.
