I would like to say that my wife traveled with Beth to the Netherlands/Holland to be on the Jensen show. Beth and my wife are friends and all of us went to Aruba many times in the summer of 2005. My wife said the Dutch people were very warm and nice to them. They were treated very good and truly loved the people and the country. The Jensen show was very professional and everyone truly wanted to hear Beth. Those people over there want to help us, hopefully their government can break the stalemate in Aruba. Casa - I posted those as they had the most information.  He did post in the forum some but it was before the last crash and those posts aren't available now.

I posted a reply and the dang thing was locked!  haha.  I'll try again. I remember that the troups were withdrawn from Viet Nam in 1973.  I was living at home and attending college.  I remember there was a certain day(don't remember exactly) where we were supposed to keep our porch lights on for the return of the troups.  The actual war ended in 1975 I think.  I had an ex boyfriend who was in Viet Nam and he was home in 1974 I know cause we went out again. He was my first boyfriend and we dated off and on through high school and once in college.  Side note:  Over the past year we have been talking to each other and visiting. He never talks about Viet Nam just to say that I can not imagine what it was like.  I don't ask questions!

If the source new about the baseball bat, why didn't the source tell the ALE or anyone else?

What I was saying was that in the last few months, the Kalpoes have filed a request to be released, the Dutch have taken the case files to The Netherlands and are looking at them, Beth was on the Jensen show, JQK said they have something in the works, Joe Mammana said they still have a "presence" in Aruba, DeVries investigates and airs his show, Jossy comes out with information about the Dutch who interrogated Joran in '05 and Viet Vet posts this information.  I don't know if Viet Vet is legit, but I doubt that this sudden flood of information is a coincidence.  I think it has been planned.  I hope there is more in the works.  I hope we hear more about the statements made by J2K to police, evidence of evidence destroyed and conflicts of interest.   I hope we get verification of the Skeeters tapes - one way or the other.  I hope the castle of corruption and organized crime from the US, South America or elsewhere that was built in Aruba (and elsewhere in the Caribbean) starts to crumble.  And I hope Santa is good to me.   :wink:

Oh, yes, we certainly have and said that the person was correct about Joran sleeping at the school on Friday.  This might or might not mean also correct about the bat.  

We have no way of knowing if it is true or not Carnut.  Just a very ugly thought.


I would assume they may well have also told ALE but nothing else told to ALE resulted in anything so doubt this would either.

I would think that they might have, but it would fall into one of the usual categories: the Judge finds it "not credible", the police find it "not relevant" or even "one witness is no witness".

Still think we'd have a least heard about the witness if it have been reported.

We heard about the 'gardener' and the 'jogger' and the lady who saw the car heading to montanja.

We only heard about these witnesses because a third party was involved with all except for the jogger and there was something fishy about the jogger.

But all the other witnesses we ever heard about were only because Jossy or someone else was in on it and reported it to us.

We never heard much of anything from ALE with regard to witnesses or anything else.  Not even the tourist who found the bone with flesh on it, that one too just disappeared so I don't think we would hear unless Jossy or somebody else told us.

VietVet is not even saying he believes this, just that it was said along with all the hundreds of other rumors reported in Dave's book and all the interviews over the months.  I recall Beth saying she started to sleep in her clothing because every night it was a different rumor or claim to get them up out of bed and go check out something or other.

No one has ever listed ALL the rumors to my knowledge.  Not sure it could be done but maybe a job for Shizaru or somebody.

I do believe Jossy was the source of this information.  I do not believe that Vietvet owns or works for a newspaper.  He might be Paulus for all I know but he has been posting here for about a year and he is always factual and very nice, and I have been told that by some who know more than I do, that he is genuine but then I was told by my husband that my diamond was the best and I found out Elizabeth Taylor had a better one.  See, that is how he hoodwinked me and when I questioned him, he said, "yours is the best I could buy.  I never said it was the best in the world."

Well I do still have a bit of a snow drift between me and my firewood pile.

I was also surprised that no one discussed Rob's post earlier today.

As a kid, did you ever play the game where someone starts a story and tells one person.  That 2nd person tells the story to the next person.  The 3rd tells it to a fourth.  By the time it gets to the 5th or 6th person, you've got a totally different story than was told by person 1.  We learned today that someone can make sarcastic statements and it might be repeated as fact.  For example, did Koen really sleep with his parents or was that a snide remark made - like How Scared Was He?  He was so scared......   I do think some of the rumors have come to exist in one of these fashions.  Is the baseball bat one of them?  Don't know that either.  But rumors in a high school can spread pretty fast and Anita said she got a call from a friend saying to keep Joran quiet.  No doubt he was telling all kinds of tales followed by other kids tossing out their own scenarios.

I just looked up Chicago Mob online.  Posner is listed under "Gambling" and there's an asterisk by his name that says he's on parole.  How can he be out of the country, running a casino, if he's on parole?

Including you!  Maybe, because we know from past experience that Rob doesn't discuss his own posts and that any questions would go unanswered.  It could be that many did not see it as it was not accompanied by hilarious over-sized margin blowing, photoshopped pictures concerning bodily functions, gay bashing or out-dated cultural references.  Believe me, if Viet Vet had posted the same information, we would all be discussing ... Viet Vet.

I have saved some earlier posts from Viet Vet, I will try to post those later today altho I think this could be cleared up very quickly. I think if casa speaks with the family member who posts here, she can affirm this person exists and is quite close to the family too.

So Klaas email me if you want me to post those and fyi to all, never once has viet vet posted anything but thoughtful and intelligent posts.

As for why if the family heard this information early on, why didn't they just report it to the ALE as Casa asked........well when within this case did the ALE ever respond to anything? Furthermore if you cannot verify something, how could they have known at that moment, that this info source was so credible? Even Joran's school and father could not agree on whether Joran was in school on that day? We also can't know if others even within the ALE, told this family to discount the source that viet vet speaks of?

Aren't we now seeing what he must be feeling so acutely, that hindsight is 20/20 ? And yes, I also think Peter DeVries and Jossy and perhaps even this family, are releasing much at this time - what better time, or would everyone like to see Joran released as a suspect ?????

I will also say that there is a phenomenon here of "hope", when you think someone you love has died, or someone you love is dying - there is a component of your being that requires physical proof to accept that. Without going into details I lived through that experience this year within my own life, I also suspect had it been my daughter I would have gone down any and all possible paths, I would have left no stone unturned if humanly possible.

For the record, viet vet simply said his son went to the prom with Natalee, and that they were friends.

My nephews, identical twins just turned 16 over the weekend.  Where does the time go?   Hope she has a wonderful day, and you, as well.   (When we were that age, friends made ribbon corsages with cubes of sugar to wear at school....can't remember all the years, now, but bubblegum, etc. was used for specific years...yeah, I'm old LOL)

96. #87, nychic. They knew every move we made. Our cell phones were monitored, we were followed and some of the people supposedly helping us actually worked for the other side. ie..Charles Croes, Julia Renfro. They followed us and said they would help all they could. Originally that may have been true, but there is no doubt the ALE and higher government officials got to them. Early, very early I think the ALE and tourism dept. got together to cover this up for the good of Aruba and their friend Paulus. It has backfired, don’t you know they read this site and it most certainly gives them the shakes. They have accomplished the reverse of what they wanted. Aruba is only going to go further down. I bet food costs and drinks are out of site. Those who go there, better take a canteen.

I did not see it, but I ssaw Sinterklaas in black face and many children on Aruba in pictures of their festival and their version of Christmas.  They have a nursery that keeps children for locals and/or tourists during events or when they need sitters and one of the projects is painting them in blackface.  I saw that on one of their websites long ago.

I do also remember him stating that it was his son who escorted Natalee to the MBHS Senior dance/ festivities...(their photos we have seen..he in his tux and she looking totally elegant in the black dress). They are posed at Beth's house with that fabulous red sportscar in the backdrop, one with the white limo and the waiting & standing limo driver in the backdrop, and one photo where they are in the limo.

Peaches, big hugs to you.  I am glad you had a good time at the ornament party.  That sounds like a lot of fun.  Our garden club does that and we have a great time.  We always have a great time.  

Give your daughter a big hug and 16 kisses for us.  Hold her close.  They are gone before we know it.  But one good thing:  A daughter is a daughter all of her life and a son is a son until he takes a wife.

Maybe they did...perhaps the reason for the curious "heavy battery" charge of Guido's ?

OT but Important.....do you need ventilation when you use a gas log in your fireplace....?  Smells funny..... :shock:

Do you have a VENT-LESS gas fireplace or a VENTED one?  

I have a vent-less.  I never have to open the flue and there is no funny smell.  

My friend has a vented one.  She opens her flue.  (Course she also sits in front of the fireplace and smokes when it's really cold outside.  Smoke goes up the chimney.

Good luck with that!  My DH went to England several years ago to do some barbershopping and from what I recall, the food was less than impressive.  I think he tried a few things but I heard they eat some strange stuff.......kidney pie?  What's with that?  Who's kidney's are they?

Well, actually we don't do either traditional English or American due to hubby's food allergies. However, I know from talking with him that turkey is the traditional meat to have. I think they're big on plum pudding as well. And I know he has port and cheese delivered to his relatives every year because that's something they have on Christmas day. Other than that, I'm pretty much no help. Sowwy. :?

LOL, Peaches, about your friend smoking in front of the fireplace because my own mother used to do that.  She would not smoke in the house normally and smoked very little, perhaps 2-4 cigarettes a day or less but in cold weather after she finished dinner, cleaning the kitchen, getting her clothes ready for the following day, she would go into the library (where our fireplace was usually burning in winter) and sit and smoke, so it did not "mess up the house."

I can't believe I just typed "who's" when I meant "whose".

Thank you, BT.  I think we might be having smoked turkey and beef tenderloin and of course, plum pudding, but other than that I am clueless and she told me to not worry about doing anything, because she had a catering service helping her.  #2 son (her husband) called me and asked if I would make him some dressing for their anniversary  :lol:  (They got married during the Christmas holidays).  I told him I would make some close to New Year's. :wink:   Not going to impose my food on her dinner, nor woud I want her to do that to me.

Peaches, you do know what you did wrong.  I hardly think that is chemobrain.  I think that says you are quite alert and smart.  How many people could tell us the rule for using whose versus who's.  Very few.  I had a lawyer brother who argued the use with me once and I had to pull out those old English books from 101 to "show him," (from Missouri, oops, I mean Florida.).

Does plum pudding have anything to do with plums?   Or is it made out of something nobody wants to admit because they are just "using" the rest of the animal?

I do love green peas but as my #3 put it when he was about 4 regards brussel sprouts, "Mother, I don't like the collard balls, don't make me eat them."

Peaches....it is ventless and in an old sealed fireplace....I had not used it since I bought the house, but the SIL tried it last week and it looked nice...but it smelled and all of a sudden I thought I might have to open a window to vent it....???  Ran around and found "the book"....turned it off and am reading....lol...

IIRC, this Viet Vet person claimed he was also Natalee's pharmacist, and that Natalee had many allergies.  He claimed that it was his son that took Natalee to the prom. I don't have those posts, but I bet someone here does.

I've expressed my opinion about VV before and that is that he is not who he would like us to believe he is.  But everyone should choose for themselves.

Ono, I might have to start buying some cookbooks again and if so, I will put this one on my list.  I cannot find a single cookbook since we remodeled our house including kitchen, bathrooms and so forth.  I am hoping that wherever my digital cameras and cookbooks are, we will find them soon.  It is unfortunate that we do not inventory when we move things.  I knew where everything I packed up was located, but DH (typical man) knows that he put the cameras and cookbooks someplace and thought they were in a big brass English bread box but there was not a thing in it and it was sitting on an armoire in the greatroom, so I hardly think anyone would have "lifted" them because it is 8-9 feet tall and one would need a ladder to get up there, and I further believe DH would not have lifted it full of cookbooks and cameras to put it there. Perhaps the children will find it after we die and say, "look at these old timey digital cameras.  Mother thought they were such a prize."

Thanks for the follow up on this.  I believe VV worked with Jug primarily.  I would not be surprised if they failed to carry the story home to Beth.  I wouldn't have done so.

VV did state Beth was in The NL along with I believe his own wife before this was made public.  This was when she was doing the Janssen program there.  

He is not claiming the bat story true, only that they were told this along with Joran sleeping in school on Friday.  I have always found his post valid especially the one concerning Beth going to Holland.  Not sure why the fuss about him as he is rather unassuming and has never tried to create big fanfare as some always do.

Well, then we need to be a little more exact.  I do not recall his ever claiming to be a pharmacist.  I thought he said he had a drug store, meaning perhaps owns the store but might or might not be a RPh??
It has been my experience that one store can employ more than one pharmacist as most of them do not want to work twelve hours, seven days, etc.

I just hope he is not offended by the questioning of his character when so much is accepted from so many without question or verification of any kind even when they post inaccurate information repeatedly.

But I do urge all in the forum to read the Front Page regularly and the comments there as this is where the bulk of the traffic to this site go.  You can go to the site meter and check the Entry and Exit pages and see that by far more traffic circulates on the Front Page than back here in the Forum, some days it is over twenty to one visits going only to the Front Page.  

There are some very good posters there many of whom have been posting for a very long time.  If one has something important to say, I'd say the Front Page is the place to get it seen the most.  I try to read daily there and need to make sure that I do.

I think you are right about that, Anna.  There is a huge list of names from that frontpage that I recognize from long ago and there is a lot of good information there.  I LOVE the front page posters.  I think family members and friends  (Beth's family/friends) feel safer posting there than in a forum like this where every comment is put under the microscope and argued to the point of invalidity.  For all we know, Beth might be posting on the front page. :wink:

I had been seeing those even back to the time following Natalee's disappearance when I first heard on (I think BOR) that she worked for Aruba Today.  I went there to see what kind of publication it is, and when I saw those ads, I did not need her spewing anymore of her fairy tales my way, because you can judge one's character by their associations.  As my grandfather said, "the apple does not fall far from the tree," so I judged her to have some kinky associations based on this Aruba Today.  I would have to be pretty desperate and my children pretty hungry to work for an organization like that.  I think her association with this trash speaks to her character and credibility.

I am wondering if this is good news or not.  Not sure what it means exactly.  Does it mean they cannot be extradicted or tried in the Netherlands.  I wish Linda could supply us with some information about this as far as the legal ramifications.  I know that on its face, it sounds wonderful, but just wondering if they are just going to hold them as suspects until the five months is up, the anniversary of Natalee's disappearance and then say, "Case closed.  We have nothing and they cannot be tried in NL now."

Tyler, I know I've read here recently that the Netherlands could bring charges in Netherlands against the suspects as they are Dutch citizens.  Now, I don't recall who said it, and don't know if it is true as I don't "know their system."  But, if they could not bring charges, then why even send Dutch investigators and why would de Vries do his show?  So, it seem to me, logically, that the Dutch could bring charges against them in Netherlands.

I have 4 reasons to believe he is not for real.

I'm getting a little stronger everyday.  I saw the surgeon yesterday and she is impressed with how fast I am healing (wound filling in).  I still have to go to the hospital everyday for hydrotherapy, debridement, & dressing change.  I just cleared a Pseudomonas infection. I've got a few areas where the skin is breaking down from the dang tape.  I'm having fewer nightmares. So overall it's getting better.  I feel like I am so far behind on the case - I missed most of November! Was this too much information?  :wink:

I guess the top side to this is that the pimps are not rewarded monetarily which would really cause some angry monkeys here at Christmas.

At least this ruling will give the replacement for KJ four months with them still as suspects?  I do still have hope that if KJ is replaced, the one who replaces her just about has to be better as he will not have spent all those years desk to desk, at the least, with Paulus.   :roll:

AFAIK, Sloots action is still under appeal and he has yet to collect the first florin.  He could well lose on appeal as well.  I wouldn't be spending any big money counting on anything just yet if I were any of these suspects for surely there was reason to at least arrest them for their lying and covering alone.  Most innocent people don't tell big fat whopping lies as they have all done.  If it can be proven Paulus said 4 am instead of 11 as the time he picked up Joran, that should eliminate his financial gain.

Otherwise, perhaps his many improper phone conversations with can der Straaten the first week would be grounds for his not receiving any money.  He also gave the now famous no body, no case advice which should also preclude him from profiting from this.  If he does receive money, it will just be further indication he has a judge or two in his pocket or bedroom as the case may be.

I don't think he will ever receive money and will be very surprised if he does.  Just my opinion and no reason to think this other than by now they have to all be just a little sick of Sloots.  Imagine if they give him the award and then Joran should be tried and convicted.  I have always thought he was just a bit premature in his suit.

Guess you can't blame him for trying to get this all over and done with for they do want it to go away.  I would still like to know which of the Dutchies sold the Aruban government and AHATA on the bogus theory that we would all go away in short order if they just gave us the runaround for a while.  I just know it was one of them and hope the Arubans are catching on that the elitist Dutch on that island are not nearly so clever as they think themselves to be.

Hi everybody.   Score one for truth and justice, the only thing surprising about J2K remaining suspects is that it appears to be the right decision.   After reading Deetch's satire yesterday I started thinking, it really would not surprise me if Joran had been released and the Kalpoes remained suspects.  How the heck did Paul get released anyway? It is meaningless anyway whether they are released as suspects today or 3 months from now or 10 years from now.  At any point that new evidence is discovered they can be re-arrested and/or brought to trial.  

For public opinion purposes, this was a really poor decision to request that they be released.   I do not understand why they went forward with that, what would have been the harm in just waiting out the statutory period?    Especially for K2, as they have been out of the hotseat of public criticism for some time now.  This only draws further attention to them and at least plants the seed that there remains some compelling evidence of their criminal involvement.

I will never get this dripping water when it is below freezing straight.  I just got a call to tell me to be sure I disconnet the water hose from all the outside faucets or they will freeze.

What the heck is that about?  Now I have to don coats and gloves and go do that.  Makes no sense to me nor does the dripping water other than to keep the water moving within the pipes.

And does this water have to be dripping at EVERY sink or lavatory?  Seems very wasteful.    He said the one the fartherest from where the water enters the house but how do I know where it enters the house?  I think I know but am not positive enough to risk frozen pipes on it.

Imagine every house with water dripping in every outlet over hundreds of thousands of homes.

Anna, don that coat.  Yes, dripping water is moving water and anything moving with water is less likely to dehydrate and "burst."   We have sprayed our plants with Wiltpruf after watering all morning.

I remember him posting that he owned several pharmacies.

Even cheese, shrimp and bell pepper.  Mushrooms, shrimp, bell pepper and diced tomatoes, um good.

Anna, let me add.  It is more important to have the inside faucets dripping that are on an outside wall.  I do not do that in my bathroom but do so in my garden tub because it and the shower are on the outside wall and will freeze faster.  The toilet and lava bowls are inside other rooms that are part of that bathroom, but have four rooms to it which includes a closet (which is on the inside wall, go figure).  They should have put that tub and shower on the inside wall and then they could have more easily connected my pot filler in the kitchen at the coffee bar and kept my pipes from freezing all at the same time.  (Plus saving me a lot of money when I wanted a pot filler at the coffee bar).

Well, I have three outside faucets and am not sure I can get the hose lose on all of them, it's too tight so it will not leak.  Will try rubber thingy for removing tight lids on jars.


Also about GRITS, some people have been known to put jelly or honey in them with butter as well but I am sure I don't know anybody who would do that.   :oops: Just at breakfast.

OMG, Anna, no, do not put your tongue on the cold faucet.  I grew up in Ohio.  Every year we had one very naive (well...stupid) kid lick the flagpole or the bike rack on a dare.  Very painful result.

Anna, attached outside hoses contain residual water. When water freezes, it expands. If any residual water remains in you outside silcocks or faucets it will freeze and expand and damage those items. A very common problem in regular freezing areas.

Dripping out side won't work because the water will eventually form icicles and freeze back up to and into the faucet.

As Tyler says dripping water on outside wall fixtures or were underfloor plumbing might not be insulated is a good thing.

For the same reason I'm worried about my pipes freezing in Tennessee. It's going to be 18 degrees here the next two nights.  :(

Oh and warm/hot water does not freeze faster than cold water, that's one of those socalled urban myths.

I live in Michigan and it gets and stays friggen cold and I never do the things you are talking about, never had a problem.  The only thing I do is unhook the hoses and store them for the winter.  If you have a water pipe that is exposed to the air (as in not buried or anything) for several feet you might want to insulate it but other than that, the odds of your pipes freezing ae pretty darn close to zero.

BT, I live in Central Alabama and we have had 18 degrees for the past three days; it is getting really cold tonight.  Brrr, brrr.  If I were you I would snuggle up to BT, he has a nice coat.

18 degrees for 2 nights is not going to make your pipes freeze and burst.

You just don't want water in the spigots.  If you can't get the hose off, just make sure you don't have one of those adjustable ends that shut off water (twist) but the spigot is still open. Then just drain as much water out of hose as you can.
Tyler is right about the indoor faucets that have pipes running by an outside wall.  Let the water drip a little and open any cupboard doors to let the heat from the house get to the back wall.

Blah, our houses are not insulated nor pipes buried as well as they are in the frozen tundra, because they think in this area we are in the South, so when it gets this cold this quick, went from about 80 one day to 19 that night, it is hard on plants and the pipes.  I lose more roses in that kind of weather than I do when it drops gradually through the season.  One Christmas Eve, it went from 79 that afternoon to 4 degrees by the next morning and although I had watered the roses and sprayed with Wiltpruf, I still lost 7.

for all of the mileage I'm getting out of that recipe, I should have claimed to create it !!!

Whether KJ is in Aruba then, or in back Holland, it won't matter...Perhaps she will be the head prosecutor, or assist in the prosecution in Holland when this case goes to trial there? (Because I really think it will go to trial there--the Dutch there are not stupid and will want this case to go forward, I think. Aruba is a thorn in Holland's side.)

Well, I will kinda agree with Blah that an overnight cold snap probably isn't really anything to be too concerned about. Residual heat from the interior will probably keep most all interior plumbing ok.

It's still prudent to disconnect exterior hoses in winter time.

Around here an extended cold spell of several days without going above freezing is what really gets attention for plumbing, especially in trailer parks and then only with uninsulated plumbing.

I really dont think y'all have to worry about your pipes, it takes the ground a long time to freeze even just a few inches deep.  But, better safe than sorry.

It is much better than "regular" baked turkey or any other way I have had it except barbecued.  I buy them smoked from Honey Baked Ham or Logan's Farm, Williams-Sonoma, etc., (whoever has the price du jour).  I am not particularly fond of those I have eaten that people cook on their smoker, but I suspect all that I have eaten that way was done by ameteurs.  Smoked turkey that is done right tastes very similar to honey baked ham.

You really do not know since you have never lived here, but we get far worse damage from something like this than we would in mid January when it drops to single digits, because it has had time to gradually cool off.  See that is another urban myth about the earht's temperature.  Did you know that you would expect the west side to be warmer at sundown?  Nope.  I learned that Sunday from a professor at Auburn who said the temperature drops so rapidly on the west side, that it does more damage than on the east side where it has gradually declined throughout the day.  

See, we Alabamians have lived through frozen, burst pipes too many years to think it will not be bad.  We have awakened to enough water for cats to swim in before when we did not take care to protect our pipes.

Heh, heh, my good neighbor brought over a large pan of smoked turkey for me this Thanksgiving. Don't know if it was because they just wanted to get rid of it or if they thought they were treating me. Anyhow it didn't taste all that much different from regular turkey to me.

Water pipes are just about six inches deep in the ground in many places.  Houses like mine over fifteen years old don't have any insulation in the floor at all.  The pipes are just under the house with nothing on them.  No wrapping or anything, just plastic pipes under there.  Exposed floor joists like in an attic without insulation.  But thankfully the attic has insulation.  Seldom do floors.  

Not only have they frozen before in other house but when they thawed they were all cracked open and water was pouring out of them through the walls!!  Flooded kitchen, too.  So they DO freeze and it is impossible to find a plumber when that happens as well,

It depends on whether or not your home is up on pier and beam....if so, then hence the need to wrap the pipes and do the drip. If your home is on a slab, it isn't necessary. The location is moot.

That sounds so beautiful.  When we were in Oregon this summer, the cottage we stayed at had a gas fireplace.  I loved that thing!  I turned it on and was mesmerized by the flames.  Curled up in a chair and felt so cozy and safe.  My hubby had to open all the windows as it was much too hot, but I loved it.    :lol:

Asparagus - boilfor 8 minutes (maybe longer in the south  :wink: ) while boiling, saute some mushrooms (those white ones they have at all the grocery store, forget what they are called) and sesame seeds in butter for a few minutes. Drain and mix in the asparagus and squeeze a little lemon juice over the top.

I have been building them like crazy, still have about 6 more to make before christmas.  I dont mind making them as gifts or for friends but I really dont think making a website and trying to make some money off them would really work.  I would have to find someone willing to pay a couple hundred dollards for one for it to be worth while.  Then again, check this out....

Thank you buckeye, despite the trials of this year she's still done so well, I even found a butterfly charm for her bracelet but shhhh, no one tell that's a secret. I plan to give it to her to wear at graduation.

honestly she's helping with cookies through the holiday, the job market is very very slow.......that being said I'm scheduled to have my fourth interview with a global company tomorrow and it's been two months of interview process! theres probably close to $100 just in wood in those.  Add in wear and tear on your equipment (blades are not cheap and need to be sharpened occasionally - also not cheap), sand paper, glue (takes about $7 -$10 in glue alone for one end grain cutting board), your time, gas and time spent going to the sawmill to pick out just the right boards, mineral oil, etc and even at those prices its hard to make money on them.   Its alot easier to just make them and give them away, everyone is happier that way.

A few years ago, there was a fairly new, rather expensive high rise in Chicago that had some pipes burst in winter.  Someone had gone on vacation or moved out and left the heat completely off.  Lots of damage to other condos in the building.

I'm afraid that the price of wood, really fine wood, has pushed the plastic cutting board into the forefront and onto the countertops of most of us.  It's a shame.

There seems to be an epidemic of lockjaw going around.

Blah: Your friends are lucky...a good cutting board is worth it's weight in gold. Is the best way to refresh a board with mineral oil and how often? I have a very good one (but want a larger Boos), but do wish to learn how to properly care for it. Wood is better than an acryllic cutting board, as wood destroys bacteria, I've heard. Also, it's too easy for a knife to accidentially slide off the acryllic while chopping.

Not to mention and I am really mad about this, there is no good furniture.  I went to Ethan Allen a few days ago to find a table to fill a spot by my fireplace just for Christmas.  The prices were for a permanent piece of furniture but the craftsmanship was no better than Wal-Mart.  So folks, if you have mother's and daddy's old furniture, or good furniture of your own, hold onto it.  There will not likely be anymore good wood furniture in this country except what we are holding onto unless some of you buy some of the many antiques that are being sold off in France, secondary to the country being broke.  They are selling off everything including their landmarks and historical buildings and furnishings.  It is very, very sad, but if you can grab some up before the dealers get them, by all means, buy, buy, buy.  I do not have a place to put anymore and I am not in the business, but I have a DIL that is buying.

Interesting that Aruba has not done so, will that be left up to Holland as well? Was there ever a determination for I saw both AZ  and Sunfreak spoke to this, regarding if Interpol could actually step in once the case is closed?

Well, from a layman's point of view, I think Interpol is good only for assisting FBI in the investigation part.  A criminal trial in the future would come up either in Holland ( as the Sloots are Dutch--has nothing to do with international court ) or in Alabama. rule of thumb for oiling a cutting board is as follows if it is new and never been oiled:
oil once a day for a week, after that once a week for a month, then once every month to 3 months depending on how much you use it.  Mineral oil is good to use because it doesnt go rancid.  The cheapest place to buy mineral oil (and I just now found this out) is at Miejers.  If you warm up the mineral oil on the stove and shave off some paraffin wax into it, warm until the wax melts then apply to the cutting board it will last alot longer.  

If it is not new, or has already ben treated, oil it eery 1 to 3 months.  Never put it in the dishwasher and never submerge it in water - not even for 1 second.  Just wipe it off with a damp soapy rag and then dry it.

Polenta is 'kin' to grits. Both corn meal products. White corn meal is preferable to yellow.

you can buy mineral oil at pretty much any drug store, look near the laxatives.  Miejers is what there was before Walmart.  Must only be in Michigan.
