Fayetteville, N.C. — Cumberland County authorities are searching for Shaniya Nicole Davis, 5, who went missing from her home, 1116-A Sleepy Hollow Drive in Fayetteville, Tuesday morning.

"An Amber Alert has been initiated," according to a news release from Lt. David Sportsman.

Police responded to the home around 6:50 a.m., and Shaniya's mother told officers that she last saw her daughter at 5:30 a.m.

Shaniya is described as 3-feet tall and 40 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes.

She was last seen wearing a blue T-shirt with pink underwear. She is thin and has a scar on her foot.

Police K-9s, fire officials and deputies with the Cumberland County Sheriffs Office are searching the area.

Anyone with information is urged to call Fayetteville police at 910-433-1856 or call or call 911 or *HP.

Amber Alert issued for missing 5-year-old


Helicopters have joined in the search for a 5-year-old girl who went missing from her home off Murchison Road this morning, police said.

Shaniya Davis was last seen inside her home at 1116-A Sleepy Hollow Drive about 5:30 a.m., according to a release from the Fayetteville Police Department.

An Amber Alert was issued just after noon today, according the release.

Shaniya was last seen wearing a blue sleep shirt and pink panties.

The girl's mother called police at 6:53 a.m., the release said.

Police, firefighters and Cumberland County deputies are assisting in the search.

The Highway Patrol and UNC Hospitals are making their helicopters available for the search, the release said.

Anyone with information should call police at 433-1856.

 Thank-you, why would a little one be out and about at that time of the morning, when it is still dark. I don't like what I'm already thinking.

Search dogs were in the area, but did not pick up a scent. Chance said if the child was wandering around outside, the dogs would have picked up her scent immediately.

In the video it is not raining there yet. God Be with this little one. It does not sound promising.

My first thought was someone snatched her from her bed an carried her out of the home.  But the timing just seems strange for that scenario.  If the mother saw her at 5:30 am, I have a hard time believing that a stranger came in sometime between 5:30 and 6:50 in the morning....people are usually up and around getting ready for work, school, etc. 

Just not sure what to think about this one.

Police say Shaniya's mother told detectives that she put the girl on the couch around 5:30 a.m., which was the last time she was seen. Officials say the mom noticed Shaniya was missing around 7 a.m. Two other children and an unidentified person were at the home at the time.
NBC17 reporter Justin Moss says about 30-40 emergency personnel are searching nearby woods, but K-9 units did not locate a scent.
Fayetteville Police confirm that three sex offenders do live in the mobile home park, but it is unknown if they've been questioned. Police say Shaniya's parents are not living together, and as of this morning, authorities have been unable to locate the father.

Comments on the news site say this is a really bad neighborhood. Watching the video of the helicopter, there were small kids out playing even with all the activity going on. Don't think I would be letting mine out the door.

It is unclear how the child left the home.

"The circumstances surrounding her disappearance are very odd. A 5-year-old usually...(is) not awake at 5:30 a.m. normally, and they just wouldn't leave their home," Fayetteville police spokeswoman Theresa Chance said. "If she would have wandered out of her home, she would be around here somewhere."

Chance said the family has a history with the Department of Social Services.

"There have been major DSS issues with this family – who has custody, switching back and forth," Chance said.

Chance said it's unknown whether her disappearance is domestic related. Police said Shaniya's father flew in from out of state Tuesday afternoon and was talking to investigators.
"We're treating this as a child in danger, with the information we have," Chance said.

Chance said police have been called to the home before. This summer, officers served a search warrant at the home and found a variety of drugs inside.

I just don't see how she could have vanished..just thinking out loud..Her mom says she put her on the couch at 5:30, wonder if she was asleep or awake? I suppose someone could have tapped on the door or a window and she went over to look, opened the door or the door wasn't locked and they grabbed her. The trailor seems a bit worn so that is likely. The windows didn't look broken out, so she must of gone through the door.  How would they know she would be out there on the couch? Maybe that is where she slept normally and they saw her there before? I suppose that is possible. No scent? Maybe they wrapped her in a blanket and carried her out? hmmm could be I guess. I think her blanket would have her scent that the dogs would pick up? I guess a kidnapper could use his own blanket or sheet or something? Would they need to in order for there to be no scent? Not sure, anyone know?  Does a person need to touch the ground for their to be scent? How do you mask the scent of a person?

Thanks for the updates, so the dad flew in, so there goes thinking that perhaps he took her. Don't like what I'm seeing about the Dept of Social Services, and drugs in the house.

unfortunately i get the feeling this will be one of those kind of stories where she has been killed either by accident or by abuse and they lied and said she was missing but she prolly has been missing for a lil longer.....

wow...i really think the mother knows more than she is saying.  why would she put the child on the couch at 5:30 am...this whole thing just does not pass the sniff test for me. especially now that i know CPS has some type of legal involvement.  i work for cps in another state and you have to have pretty good evidence and/or a lack of cooperation from the family if you want to take legal custody of a child or put a court order of cooperation in... it isn't as easy as everyone thinks. the laws unfortunately seem to protect the parents more than the children...

this is giving me flashbacks of the robert manwill case :(

Five-year-old Shaniya Davis was last seen by her mother at 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009 in Fayetteville, N.C.

Shaniya's mother phoned police at 6:53 a.m. and they immediately responded and began to search.

In addition to the Fayetteville Police Dept., searchers include K-9 teams, the Fayetteville Fire Dept, Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, N.C. Highway Patrol, U.S. Marshals and the FBI.

Detectives are questioning all friends and relatives in the area, hoping for a lead.

Statistically, with an unrelated male in the home children are about 50 times more likely to be injured or killed. Add to that the fact that drugs may have been an issue in this home, I have a very bad feeling about this.

Officals Suspect Foul Play..

They also have been questioning the girls mother Antoinette Davis all day and through the evening...

Police say something may have happened to Shaniya Davis before her mother reported her missing.

“During the night, there was something that went wrong,” Theresa Chance, with the Fayetteville Police Department, said. “We hope she’s still alive. That’s our best hope. Of course that’s what we’re searching for. We’re searching for her and hope to find her alive. But we just don’t know at this point.”

Police say Shaniya’s mother, the mother’s boyfriend, the mother’s sister and two other children were all in the home Monday night.

They’re not permitted to stay in the home Tuesday night because it’s been deemed uninhabitable because of raw sewage on the property.

Earlier in the day, Chance called the case “odd,” pointing out that if Davis had walked out of her home alone, somebody would have found her.

"If she would have wandered out of her home, she'd be around here somewhere. And again, the fire department has been on scene all morning,” Chance said. “They have gone through the wooded area – everything. We've had the dogs out here."

Davis was last seen wearing a blue night shirt with pink underwear and no shoes.

Three sex offenders live on the same street as Davis. Police checked in with them and searched cars coming out of the neighborhood on a volunteer basis.

I have a ?  If something happen to shaniya. Let's say 2 or 3 days ago. Would the dogs pick up a scent from that long ago. From outside the house. And another thing. Would the dogs pick up a scent if she were taken out of the house wrapped in a blanket?

I don't know the answer to that luvmyboys, but hopefully another monkey might.

Fay is a large city with many areas and this one is dangerous. DSS has had contact in the past with mom   for drugs and custody issues. Drug dealers here are bold and dangerous even in the daytime. Omg I live 2 hours away. And I was makeing arrangements so I could go and help find her I was taken 5 other people with me. So if they are saying they have a poi does that mean that they prolly know that she is already no longer with us.

I think this is gonna be a inside job, someone at that home knows what happened to this child, Poor poor baby, I hope ,this is solved pretty fast, and what in the hell is this woman doing with these children in a home that was dangerous....crazy...

If the person who took this girl had a head start (meaning she was killed way before anyone called the police) there are plenty of places that they could hide the body.

I lived in Fayetteville, NC for almost 9 months in 2008 so I know the area very well. There are thick wooded areas everywhere. Plus the weather is so volatile and since it's November I bet it's very cold and rainy.

My heart aches for this child. I lived near Sleepy Hollow Drive and I couldn't imagine someone just walking in and taking her. Fayetteville is a military town, but there are a lot of locals. Everyone is real friendly and they look out for each other. Someone had to've been watching the that morning (even if this is a trailer park area).

I hope they find this girl safe.

Search back under way for missing Fayetteville child

FAYETTEVILLE – The search is again under way Wednesday for a missing 5-year-old Fayetteville girl.

Despite the weather conditions, authorities say search efforts will continue in the area.

The girl’s mother called authorities on Tuesday and said the child disappeared from their home in the Sleepy Hollow mobile home park just before 7 a.m.

Police officially called off their search for Davis around 5 p.m. that evening. Officials say they suspect foul play and are questioning people of interest in the case but won’t say who those people are.

Meanwhile, authorities have said that something might have happened to the child prior to her mother reporting her missing.

Missing Child Information:

Shaniya Davis is a 5-year-old black female. She is about 3-feet tall and weighs 40 pounds. The girl has brown hair and brown eyes, and was last seen wearing a blue sleep shirt. Anyone with information can call 911.

Hey you how are you doing? I asked a couple of ?  Last night don't know if anyone know's the answer it is back on page 9. And my cable is out so I can not pick up any local news stations. So I can't watch the noon news. I live about 2hours away from fayetteville. I don't no what is going on with my internet I am not able to get on and I can't click on the links that are posted. Fayetteville police spokeswoman Theresa Chance said three registered sex offenders live in the neighborhood but were not suspects in the investigation.

Police served a warrant at the residence and searched the house for clues as well, Chance said.

A previous warrant had been served at the same residence July 21. In that search police uncovered narcotics.

Chance also said the girl's father was out-of-town and not a suspect.

Two other children lived in the residence, a 7-year-old male and another child whom police would not identify.

Shaniya's mother and the 7-year-old boy spent most of Tuesday at the police station being interviewed by investigators.

Police, firefighters and Cumberland County deputies are helping in the search.

I  snipped the following from an article I found on tracking dogs that I thought might answer your question.  There is a lot of info in the article so I just snipped part of it.  It was very interesting.  I hope this answers your question, it sure answered alot for me and I'm glad you brought it up. 

"Dogs that follow an odour trail may be broadly divided into three types, determined by their behaviour on the trail (Bryson, 1984; Johnson, 1997). Air scenting dogs follow the odour trail with their head up in the air and are considered to be following the airborne scent rafts emanating directly from the individual providing the odour and being carried away by air currents. It would follow that these dogs can only follow a trail up-wind. Trailing dogs follow the trail with their head up when moving into the wind and head down when following the trail in the same direction as the wind. They often do not follow directly on the path trodden by the individual laying the odour and at bends may overrun before turning. It is considered that these dogs are following the individual scent deposited by contact with the ground surface. Tracking dogs follow the trail with their head down and noses on the path and follow very closely the footsteps of the individual. Fayetteville, N.C. — Fayetteville police battled the rain Wednesday as they continued to search for a 5-year-old girl who disappeared from her home early Tuesday.

WRAL News has confirmed that investigators recovered a blanket that is believed to belong to Shaniya Nicole Davis from a neighbor's garbage can. The neighbor, Andrea Moore, said she doesn't know how the blanket wound up in the bin and said police told her the blanket belonged to the missing girl.

Garbage can yields clue in girl's disappearance

Antoinette Davis said she put Shaniya on the couch in their home, at 1116-A Sleepy Hollow Drive in Fayetteville, at about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. When she went to check on her daughter about an hour later, the girl was missing, Davis told police.

An Amber Alert was initiated for Shaniya several hours later.

Police said Tuesday that they suspected foul play in the case, noting that they doubted she would have walked off on her own at that time of day.

Police dogs searched the neighborhood and some nearby woods late Tuesday and didn't pick up Shaniya's scent. Investigators said the dogs would have picked up her trail if she had been walking around the area.

"This case is definitely priority," said Sgt. Tracey Bass-Caine of the Fayetteville Police Department. "Anytime you have a child of this age (missing) or a child where the circumstances (of her disappearance) are questionable, then of course this takes precedence."

Bass-Caine said the rain that started falling across central North Carolina late Tuesday and continued Wednesday was hindering the search effort. Evidence in the case could be washed away, she said.

"We had to close down the extensive search we were doing (Tuesday night) because of the inclement weather," she said.

Antoinette Davis spent much of Tuesday at police headquarters answering questions, and investigators said they expected to continue questioning her Wednesday. Shaniya's father flew in from out of state Tuesday afternoon and also spoke with investigators.

Police spokeswoman Theresa Chance said the family has a history with the Department of Social Services as far as custody of Shaniya and other children in the house.

Chance said police also have been called to the home before. Officers served a search warrant at the home over the summer and found a variety of drugs inside.

Shaniya is described as 3 feet tall and 40 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a blue T-shirt with pink underwear. She is thin and has a scar on her foot

If the dogs didn't pickup her scent it stands to reason that  they have put her in something or taken her out of the area.  The blanket is a very sad clue.  None of it adds up.  Didn't the child have a bed to sleep in?  Shaniya looks so pretty in her picture like she was well taken care of but that picture might have only been taken at a special occasion such as a wedding.  It breaks my heart and I'm frustrated.  Too many children going missing and their own mothers seem to be involved.  This one is only 3.5 hours from where i live.  I wonder if there is anything on the blanket and if so, why was it stashed so close by? Doesn't make any sense.

Shaniya's mom says she last saw (or put?) Shaniya on the couch at 5:30a.  This seems kind of early for Shaniya to be awake, unless the mom or someone had to get ready to go to work.  Wonder what was going on at 5:30 for the mom to have been awake.  Did Shaniya wet her bed, could that have been why she was on the couch at that early hour? 

The mom called police at 6:53a.  Wonder what the mom was doing between 5:30 and 6:53a?  Also am wondering what her boyfriend was doing, and where the 7 yr old was at that time. 

Wonder when Shaniya was last seen by someone not living in that home. She was 5 yrs old last February, so am wondering if she was in school on Monday.

LE used scent dogs, which did not pick up Shaniya's scent outside.  She could have been carried out of the home, wrapped in the blanket that was found in the dumpster.  Wonder if they have used cadaver dogs yet.  Am hoping that LE and/or any scent/cadaver dogs checked out the mom/bf's car.  It's a lot of time between 5:30 and 6:53a.  The engine might still have been warm early on.

According to the news reports, authorities aren't buying the mom's story.  Why isn't much being said about the boyfriend? 

News reports have said there was 'raw sewage'.  In the comments section from one of the news reports, it was said that, "The home had been condemed and not fit to live in yet they were still living it in with sewer backed up in the tub." 

Raw sewage in the tub??????????  Am wondering if LE has anyone out there to check if the outside sewer system was clogged by...... something.

Wykes good thought about wetting the bed, that could explain why she was put on the couch. I was thinking she was sleeping with her mom in her room but was being restless which could have angered the BF? But the bed wetting makes sense and could lend itself to a motive. God knows people get upset at kids for wetting the bed like they can stop from doing it.  ::MonkeyMad::

When my sons and I moved into a house in rural NE Nebraska, it had an old sewer system thingy outside.  First day one of my sons flushed the commode, and sewage came up into the tub and sink. Called a plumber, who skedaddled out there, and climbed down into the sewer.  Said there was a possum who had managed to find it's way in there, had been in there for some time.  Ugh.  Poor thing.  Plumber said sewage will back up like that into the tub and sinks when something is clogging the sewer thingy outside.

Neighbors of missing 5-year-old knew little about family

Police have no new leads in the case of a missing 5-year-old girl in Fayetteville, according to a watch commander this afternoon.

Shaniya Davis was last seen about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday at her home at 1116-A Sleepy Hollow Drive, police said.

The last person to see her was her mother, who called police at 6:53 a.m. to report her child missing.

The home is in Sleepy Hollow Mobile Home Park.

There was little activity among the single-wide trailers this afternoon. A single police officer was parked at the bottom of Sleepy Hollow Drive.

Neighbors say the mother of the missing girl was quiet, and several said they didn't know her very well. The park is beside what appears to be a large dump site and is surrounded by woods.

On a clothes line in front of the girl's home are clothes that were left outside.

Shaniya was last seen wearing a dark blue shirt and pink panties, police said.

Shaniya's father is out-of-town and not considered a suspect, said Theresa Chance, a police spokeswoman.

Two other children lived at the residence, she said. One is a 7-year-old boy, but Chance refused to disclose the gender and age of the other child.

I dunno why it seems some folks get mad at kids for wetting the bed.  From what I understand about that, a child is rarely awake when that happens.  Not like a child would do that on purpose just to make the parent/caretaker angry.  Was thinking this in Haleigh's case early on, when we were speculating as to what may have happened.  I agree with you, TG, it's not like a child can stop from doing that.  I don't think they can help it.  And pointless for a parent to get angry.  I can understand frustrated, calling the doc, getting ideas on how to help the child.  IMO.  ::MonkeyMad::

Wonder if the neighbor meant beating of a person, or a kind of beating on the wall or what?  If of a person, why wouldn't she have called 911? 

I really hope that the feces on the blanket and the back porch have to do with the sewage problem in the tub, and nothing to do with any kind of beating.   

Over yonder, it's being said that either on the local news or HLN, that LE has surveillance videos that show adults from the home coming out of the house and looking around.  Evidently it was during that time frame.

This is just Heartbreaking and I have to say sickening about the blanket being covered in feces.. It looks as though the timeline the mother reported is full of BS let alone what happen that morning.. This doesnt look good at all but I hope and pray Shaniya is found safe. I wonder when was the last time DCF was at the home and if the report will be release.

Barbara who managers the trailor park area had surveillence put up and police are reviwing the tapes. Also Antonette davis was not approved for the trailor park at 1116 Sleepy Hollow but her sister was approved her name I believe that was mention was the name Brenda.

This case reminds me of the little 4 yr old boy, Wyatt Smitsky, in PA... who drowned in a septic tank, back in Sept.  It has not been ruled yet whether the boy’s death was accidental or a homicide.  Although the cover to the septic tank had been replaced.  Surely he couldn't have done that himself.  His siblings were taken from the parents when Wyatt's body was found.  But authorities have just reunited them with their parents.   ::MonkeyMad::

Am beginning to wonder if there really was a sewage leak/problem at all.  There *could have* been a beating IN the bathtub, she soiled herself before/during/after a beating, the blanket used to help clean up, and thrown in the neighbor's trash bin to divert attention from the family.  I just wanna know .. where is Shaniya?   

I think that Shaniya did attend school because the picture that klass posted of her in the blue shirt shows a back pack on her looks like she mat be on her way to school.....

Wow this is not going to end well at all. Maybe the girl had a BM in her bed or gosh, bodies evacuate when they die. I know we dont' know what is going on forsure, but why don't people just give kids up if they can handle it?

Wyke, regarding researching the mom, There are many Antionette Davis' in that area, not sure how to tell who is who, I don't have a birthdate or a middle initial. I have a paid site I use for work, it is not the most reliable, just as reliable as the information given I suppose. I don't want to put up anything because I don't want to use incorrect information.

It makes me ill to think of the conditions that these children and others must exist in. There is no excuse for that in this country and is a glaring example of neglect. With family services previously involved with this family we know the system has failed these children. We pay millions of dollars in taxes to try and keep children safe. You would think the children could at least breathe air free from the stench of raw sewage! I fear there will not be a positive outcome for this poor missing child. Sure does look like that, my2cents.  Would love to know if Shaniya was seen at school on Monday.  In fact, haven't heard anyone else in the new reports (yet) saying they just saw her playing the day before or whatever.  Nada.  Just what the mom is saying.  Haven't heard yet about the father of the 7 yr old, or the mother/father of the infant in the home. 

One reason the mom hasn't been on camera much, if at all yet, is cuz she's been grilled by LE, perhaps still is, dunno.  Guess they are questioning the 7 yr old too.  He's probably a wealth of info, most are by that age.

In the video she states someone was beating on her wall at about 3 AM and she believes the person who was beating on the wall is the same person that placed the blanket into the trashcan? If someone was going to hide something in your trashcan, I doubt they would try to ask first. How does she get from A to B on that one, sorry not following? Also, feces all over the rail and porch of the house the little girl lived in? All over it? How does that happen?

I think I'm sick now.....The neighbor at the park where the blanket was found in the trash can just said that the blanket was covered in feces.....She also said that feces was spread all over the porch of the trailer she disappeared from......This sounds really ugly.......

If a person is covered in fecal matter would that lessen the chance of a scent being found from search dogs?

if cps went into the home before and saw all that raw sewage there is NO reason they should have left the children in the home. it is a health hazard. i cannot tell you how many times i have had to call the code enforcers into homes i went into that had raw sewage everywhere. it is unfortunate but the children need to be removed and placed with relatives if possible in that situation.  even if they didn't see it, smelling it alone should have given them enough wherewithall to go search the house. i look through every room when i go into a house. you have to. you never know what can be hiding behind a certain door. ughhhh. this is making me sick.

if they had gone in recently and there was no raw sewage then that leads me to believe that maybe this raw sewage is the result of something being placed recently in the septic tank. on NG tonight they made it sound like the cops haven't even looked in the septic tank yet. if that is the case that is unacceptable.  i also think if shes in the septic tank that could explain why there is no scent anywhere.

I think it was said earlier that the family had already been told not to return to that house  because of this problem, so it was already known about......at least I think thats what I heard..

Am thinking it depends on what type of "search" dog was being used, for what purpose, and in the event of a dog being used for a "living body", (as opposed to a cadaver dog), what scent was given to that dog to search for. 

I used to think I pretty much knew the difference between a SAR (search and rescue) dog and a cadaver dog.  Now it seems that dogs can be cross-trained, plus there are even more categories than simply two.  To make things even more confusing, LE can use one type of dog, but just refer to it as a 'search dog', even tho it's actually a tracking  or forensic dog.  Sigh. 

Guess to know the answer to your question, we would need to know which type of dog was used in the search. 

Here are the categories of the different dogs:  (keep in mind that some dogs are cross-trained). 

    Search Dog
    A non-specific term referring to a canine trained for any type of searching based upon visual, olfactory, or auditory clues.

    Tracking Dog
    A canine with the specific ability and training to track and locate a specific human on the basis of scent.

    Air-Scent Dog
    A canine with the ability and training to locate the presence of a human in a particular area. This is the standard for dogs used in wilderness search for lost persons.

    Cadaver Dog
    A narrow term, used in a search-and-rescue context, to indicate a canine primarily trained as a tracking or air-scent dog that has also received cross training in the location of dead human bodies.

    Decomp Dog
    A term used to describe a canine that will indicate when a scent source is human tissue, blood, semen, urine, feces, and materials that have been handled and worn by humans; often cross trained for other purposes.

    Forensic Search Dog
    A canine that has been specifically trained to indicate a scent source as being from decomposed human tissue. Such animals are also trained to exclude (deconditioned to) the scent of human urine, feces, and semen and will not alert on residual scent from a live human; and have never been trained to locate any scent other than that of decomposed human tissue.

you are exactly right. the smell of raw sewage in a home is very pungent, and is not an odor you can forget. it gets into everything, the carpets, furniture...EVERYTHING. it makes you want to gag. unforutnately, once people living in those conditions get used to the smell, they almost become immune to it and just continue to live in those conditions. it is sickening.

Neighbor, Andrea Moore, was on show via phone. She says she lives across the street from Shaniya.  Says the noise on her wall was a banging, like a struggle.  Later says it could have been the lid to the trash bin, which was wedged between her porch and side of trailer. If you try to open it wrong, it gets stuck, and you have to jiggle it free. 

At 7:30a Andrea heard knock, was LE, asking if she saw Shaniya, and asked if she knew her, which she did not. She went back to bed, heard police on her porch and her trash, trailer and porch were taped off.  She was asked if she threw out blanket, she said no.  Said trash day was Monday, the can should have been empty on Tuesday.

Davis home is 200 feet from neighbor, Andrea.

The blanket had feces and urine on it.  As did the couch.

Some seem to think the mom's bf did whatever and the mom covered it up.

NG referred to Shaniya as 'it' sev times. 

This case is getting to me, probably because I used to live in Fayetteville.

Are there any muddy footprints coming into the house? If it was raining wouldn't someone coming in leave marked on the floor or rug?

Feces found on a blanket that belonged to the little girl...is it possible the little girl was put on the couch because she went #2 all over her bed and her mom didn't want to deal with it?

Do we know how long the septic system was broken? Is it possible that there were no facilities in the house at all, meaning the only toilet was broken so the little girl had to #2 in a blanket?

That is beyond disgusting, but I had to throw it out there.

The septic system needs to be thoroughly checked.

On Tuesday, November 10, 2009, Fayetteville Police were dispatched to 1116-A Sleepy Hollow Drive to investigate a child missing.  When officers arrived, a mother told them that her 5-year-old daughter, Shaniya Daivs was last seen that morning at 5:30 a.m. inside the house.  Investigators hit the ground, and an immediate search began.  That search today is on-going with the assistance of K-9’s, the local Fire Department, and Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Barbara Davenport, current Sleepy Hollow manager, and retired Investigator with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office says she oversees 98 units in the Sleepy Hollow neighborhood.  Barbara told me, “the family moved in on August 5, 2009… I only rented to a woman named Brenda Davis and her son, so it was a surprise when Antoinette, her boyfriend, and other children were there… I’ve never seen this little girl, and I would remember seeing someone that cute.”

Barbara says Antoinette Davis, Shaniya’s mother, applied to live in the mobile home park, but Barbara says her application was denied.  Only Antoinette and a 5-year-old boy were listed on the initial application.  Barbara says Brenda Davis, Antoinette’s sister, also put in an application at the same time application was accepted.  That application only listed Brenda Davis and her son as potential renters. It was quite a surprise for Barbara to later learn that in addition to Brenda Davis and her son, Antoinette, her boyfriend, Antoinette’s 5-year-old son, Shaniya, and an infant were also living in the home.  Barbara says she doesn’t know who the infant belongs to because at the time the women turned in their applications, neither one appeared to be pregnant.  Barbara also says that mobile home was not raided in July 2009, because it was vacant at the time (There are reports that claim the property was raided in July 2009, I have calls into police to verify what property was raided over the summer).

There are a few things Barbara says she wants to get straight with the public, “they (the media) are making it sound like a really bad place to live, and the fact is if people have drug charges on their records, I don’t rent to them period… (I) busted my butt for six years making that a decent place to live for everyone, my granddaughter lives in that area, do you think I want it to be a bad neighborhood?”

Barbara says there are reports that as many as three sex offenders live in the mobile home community she manages, but that number is wrong.  She says there are in fact only two registered sex offenders, and she actually had to call and make the police aware that these two men were living in the area.  The Department of Justice and Family Watch Dog websites, only list two sex offenders in that neighborhood.  Barbara says, “I call their probation officers, I call their parole officers, I find out the circumstances of their arrests and convictions… neither one are repeat offenders.”

Barbara has even done as much as set up four surveillance cameras throughout the neighborhood.  She says one camera is pointing down the hill toward the little girl’s residence, another one is facing out of the park to see traffic coming in and out, one is pointing down a side street, and one is pointing out to two adjacent streets.  Barbara tells me the police are going through her hard drive with a fine tooth comb to look for clues, she has external hard drives on the cameras that can store content for more than a month.  Barbara says from time to time the cameras have caught illegal activity, and 99% of any incidents are result of  an outsider causing the trouble.  I am waiting for a call back from investigators, and I will update this post with their information soon.

that's a great question. i would guess there would be, especially since the neighbor said that on surveillance cameras you could see the adults in the home outside "appearing" to be looking for shaniya. who knows if thats what they were actually doing. i'm assuming they knew there were surveillance cameras out there so it could be that they were pretending to be looking for shaniya.

i think its clear that mom or her boyfriend or both were involved in this.  their timeline has pretty much been discounted since the neighbor said she heard a banging noise at 3 am

and now I wonder where that infant came from, also, the owner wants to get on the news and say that this is a great place to live, well, Id like to say that she can holler that crap all she wants to, but if that was so then, why was the sewer system backed up......why were the 2 SO's allowed to live there around the other children...repeat offenders or not.......still they are SO's, and does she tell everyone that moves in about these two SO's.......also, with all her bragging about the camera's she has installed, then I guess she knew children were in that home, why did she let them stay there with it in that condition,

This has crossed my mind twice now... Monday was trash day do we really know when Shaniya went missing. I havent seen any reports if Shaniya attended school
so could of she went missing sooner than reported..

This is probably going to sound awful but does anyone know if they can tell the difference between fecies that comes out of a live person or a deceased person who has expelled fecies? Like would there be any death fluids that would let them know if the person was still living/dead when the accident occurred?

I wonder if what the neighbor says that she heard could have been someone beating on the door of Shaniya's house trying to get someone to the door? Like if one of the parents buddies needed a place to stay til morning? Maybe she let them in and put Shaniya on the couch at 3 so the visitor could sleep in her bed?

I wonder if police can look at the size of the footprints to see which set belongs to who (thus eliminating any adults as suspects in the house).

The police coming out and using the words foul play is always bad.

There probably is a way. If the septic system was backed up there wasn't likely a place to relieve yourself.

I just seen where an arrest has been made in the kidnapping of shaniya davis, his name is Clarence Coe, of 211 Brookwood Ave, also i did a quick google of his name with location of fayetteville nc and came up with this........... Clarence Coe, a Fayetteville, N.C. construction worker, started on HIV treatment while in prison only to see his treatment come to an abrupt end when he was released. North Carolina's ADAP had just stopped accepting applicants so Coe had to apply to drug company charity programs and wait several months before he received the correct combination of drugs needed to resume treatment. Instead of being able to focus on staying healthy, Coe worried about how he would get the medication to keep him healthy...........

I know several people that live in and own trailer parks as well as being a landlord myself. The problem is that you can not control what your tenants do with a property after you rent it to them. We had one where the cops came (I called them) when the kids were having a wild party with underage drinking etc. They ended up busting the walls out, the door out and craping on the floor. The cops could do nothing because it was private property, and although I was an owner, I had a rental agreement with these people. It takes me about 4 to 6 weeks to evict someone.

As for the SO, I don;t know what to say. Part of me says I am glad she gave them a place to live so we know where they are, but the other part says how the he!! could you rent to people like that.

I found it interesting that the landlady claims that she did not know that the little girl and her mother were living there. Even with security cameras, you do not always know what is going on in the area - if you have three cameras that tape 24/7 that is 72 hours of tape to watch everyday. We have digital recorder cameras but we only look at the recordings when there is a problem.

I really do not think that the sewer was backed up when the home was rented. I just do not see anyone renting out or chooseing to live in a home like that. But then again, I have seen stranger things. I just think the landlord/manager would not want to be exposed to the liability renting a place out with no sewers. 

did this little girl go to school - like one of the other posters said, the stench sticks with you - seems like the teacher would have noticed. . ..

Thompson said detectives have not yet said whether Coe knew the child. Coe was being held at the Cumberland County jail, where a worker said records didn't indicate whether Coe had an attorney or a scheduled court appearance.

Investigators found a blanket that may have belonged to Shaniya in a garbage can outside a neighbor's home. Fecal matter was found on the blanket and on the railing and porch of Davis' residence, where police wouldn't allow anyone inside because of a sewage leak.

Altho LE hasn't said yet, I'm thinking this Coe is the mom's boyfriend.  Am hoping that they arrest the mom too.  It seems that she, at the least was covering for him.

So his home was only 10 minutes away.  He got out of prison in August, that's when Shaniya's mom was first trying to move into the mobile home park.

Investigators questioned Antoinette Davis for much of Tuesday and Wednesday. Shaniya's father flew in from out of state Tuesday afternoon and also spoke with investigators.

Police also reviewed surveillance video form the Sleepy Hollow Mobile Home Park early Tuesday.

Police dogs searched the neighborhood and some nearby woods late Tuesday and didn't pick up Shaniya's scent. Investigators said the dogs would have picked up her trail if she had been walking around the area, prompting them to suspect foul play in the case.

Heavy rains late Tuesday and much of Wednesday hindered further search efforts.

Shaniya is described as 3 feet tall and 40 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a blue T-shirt with pink underwear. She is thin and has a scar on her foot.

Anyone with information about her whereabouts is asked to call Fayetteville police at 910-433-1856 or call or call 911 or *HP.

That's what I was thinking too, Rosie.  It's sad how that fear can freeze up the best of us at times.  It seems she's looking back, with hindsight n all, and kicking herself now.   I don't see any of this as her fault.  More the fault of the other adults inside Shaniya's home who IMO had to have known what was going on at the time. 

Hi monkeys. I have been peeking in on this case to keep up. When I heard about her blanket,and the statement of foul play suspected previously being made, I was pretty sure that this was not a rescue but a recovery. This arrest makes me sure of that. They are not looking for a live child. That mother must have stone walled them and that is sad. One thought I had when I read about her clothes being found, did he sexually assault her? if so, if she were alive, she may end up living a short life with AIDS. The article info was that he was being treated previously in jail for it and had to wait for charities to get his meds after he got out.poor baby girl, so beautiful. What a huge waste. She could have been a doctor or something someday.

Dont get me wrong Wykes its just I cant understand why people just dont have their eyes and ears opened especially with all this crime that is happening among us...

i would LOVE to know when the last time CPS went out to the home was.  they have an obligation to do background checks on anyone in that home and if i was that caseworker it would NOT be approrpiate for the kids to be in the home with that man. i think its possible that the mom didnt give CPS investigators her new address when she moved into this trailer...people do that all the time and it's very frustrating, but unless a child is in foster care there is only so much control cps investigators can have over a family...we can't put cameras in peoples homes 24 hours a day unfortunately...

i'm thinking this man who was arrested is the boyfriend. he prob sleeps at the trailor most nights but maybe uses the address he was picked up at for probation/parole purposes. he prob went back to live there after the trailor was condemned a few days ago. what a mess. he better lead investigators to where this innocent baby is.

If he is the BF of either the mother or sister, he is a sorry one for sure. He has a place to live, could have put them up for a bit, but chose to leave them living in raw sewage infested conditions. This is pretty much all we've heard that the mom has said.  According to LE, the mom has spent hours and hours with them, for days now, being questioned.  Her bf, sister and the 7yr old have been questioned as well.  LE must have a ton of info they aren't talking about.  Otherwise, what is being said during those hours and hours, for days?  Whatever her story is, LE has said they aren't buying it. 

It feels VERY weird not to have some kind of public statement from one of the parents or family spokesman.  We gotten nuttin...... except for the above and what Shaniya was wearing. 

It was reported that Shaniya's father flew in on Tuesday, was questioned by LE, and is not considered a suspect.  Why haven't we at least heard from him then?   ::MonkeyConfused::

It's been said there usually is a bit of truth in every lie.  The mom may have indeed put Shaniya on the couch at 5:30a.  Doesn't mean she was alive when she put her there.  (The couch, the tub, the porch outside and it's railings, as well as the blanket, had feces on it all.)  Was just thinking last night... that's a LOT of feces!!  What could cause THAT much feces?  Could it all have come from one little girl?  Or......... ??

A man charged in the Tuesday disappearance of a 5-year-old Fayetteville girl was seen driving off with her, police said Thursday.

Police arrested Clarence Darriel Coe, 30, of 211 Brookwood Ave. in Fayetteville, at about 11 p.m. Wednesday and charged him with first-degree kidnapping in the disappearance of Shaniya Nicole Davis.

The girl is still missing, and police provided no information Thursday morning on her possible whereabouts.

"She's been abducted, and she's in danger," said Theresa Chance, spokeswoman for the Fayetteville Police Department.

Antoinette Davis said she put Shaniya on the couch in their home, at 1116-A Sleepy Hollow Drive in Fayetteville, at about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. When she went to check on her daughter about an hour later, the girl was missing, Davis told police.

A witness saw a man police believe to be Coe driving away from the Sleepy Hollow Mobile Home Park on Tuesday with the girl in his car, police said. Chance declined to identify the witness or say what time the abduction occurred.

The kidnapping wasn't random, she said, noting Coe knows the Davis family. She declined to elaborate on how he knows the family.

The way it works around the south is that there can be 500 witnesses to a crime but no one seen anything. It is probably that way all over the country, but I know for a fact it is here in the south. Retaliation is rampant.

MunkyMunk, I was sitting here thinking, yes, he has a record and yes, it looks bad, but maybe he took her some where safe and clean. Then the clothes being found shoots that down. I think the blanket was a last release of her bodily functions. I hate to say it,but do think that.

It could be this Coe was willing to do whatever, just to get back into prison, where his medical needs could be taken care of properly.  It may turn out that his only involvement was to dispose of Shaniya's body.  (I kind of doubt that was his only involvement tho, just saying). 

There are some 'career criminals' who prefer living their life in prison as opposed to outside of it, even without medical problems needing care that's not provided on the outside.  We have a man here in town who pretty much lived his life in prison, who got out, and immediately robbed a bank.  Gave the teller a note that said he'd be just outside the bank... waiting for the police.   And he was!!  ::MonkeyShocked::    ::MonkeyNoNo:: 

It will be a double tragedy IMO, if it turns out this Coe did whatever with Shaniya, simply to get back inside prison, for his own reasons.  Sadder yet is that taxpayers work hard at law-abiding lives, yet end up supporting jerks like that who have figured out how to work the system. 
 

Hi Wyks, You know, with the reports on the drugs found previously in the home and the conditions of the home, as well as DSS being involved 'extensively' with this family, that beautiful little girl did not stand a chance.... I get so damned angry when I see these stories. Sounds as though DSS should have taken her away long ago.

Well if witnesses saw him driving away with her, then surely they know whether she was alive or not when he drove away..Wish we knew just what in the world he was doing with her and how he obtained her and  how close he was to this family, something stinks with all this,....does he live in the same park that the child lived in?.......if so, I guess the owner of the park knew he lived there, hmmmm.....I think the whole area is in need of a clean up...

TAMPA | Wildlife officials say they spent hours searching for a monkey on the lam in the Tampa area and couldn’t locate the animal.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the monkey was first spotted in a tree in a residential area late Wednesday morning. Investigators gave up the search early Wednesday night.

Authorities now believe the monkey is hiding near a local park, but it is unclear if they will continue looking for the primate. A commission spokesman says officials will decide whether to suspend their search for the animal, member of the macaque family, on Thursday morning.

well, I dont know just how big this park is, but if he didnt live in the area, he must have been there before because someone noticed him......anyway, this poor child is more then likely deceased, what the hell is wrong with these parents today....

Yes JG, I have been one of the loudest screamers on hope and how important it is to keep hope when a loved one is missing. I too hope she is alive and was maybe put somewhere safe and clean, but the clothes,the blanket and the other things surrounding this, I just don't think it will be.. You would think if the child was already deceased she wouldn't be sitting in the car, but also if he kidnapped her, I can't imagine her just sitting in the car for people to see her. I also dont get the neighbor not getting up to see what the banging was about that night....unless this kind of thing happens alot, I believe I would have at least looked to see if someone was hurt or trying to get in or something, man if she had done that and called 911, maybe the person would have been caught right then and maybe shaniya would have been found,....but I cant really blame her...looking back a couple months ago.....I had a raccoon that would come up on my deck at night for whatever reason, he would sometimes knock one of my flower pots off and it scared the he!! out of me, so the first times he did it I jumped right up and turned on the light and there he was starng at me through the window, then he would just turn around and walk off, after this went on for several nights, the next time I heard ta noise outside, I just assumed it was him and didnt pay any attention....so I guess I will from now on.......just to make sure!!!

or she was sat up to look like she was alive.. or again, maybe he took her somewhere safe and clean, but I would think someone would have come forward in that case and handed her over if that were the case....

Clarence Coe, 30, was arrested and charged with first-degree kidnapping. He is scheduled to appear in court Thursday afternoon. Theresa Chance, a spokeswoman for the Fayetteville Police Department, said a witness spotted Coe taking the girl out of the trailer park.

"I think it's safe to say this is not a random occurrence," Chance said. Investigators are assuming that Shaniya is in danger.

Barbara Davenport, property manager at Sleepy Hollow Mobile Home Park where Shaniya was living, said Coe is the boyfriend of the girl's mother, Antoinette Davis, and has visited the trailer park several times.

Investigators have said police dogs did not pick up the child's scent during a search of the neighborhood. Shaniya was reported missing from her a mobile home park around 7 a.m. Tuesday, and her mother last saw the girl that day around 5:30 a.m.

"Our hopes are that she's close by," Chance said.

Coe was being held at the Cumberland County jail, where a worker said records didn't indicate whether he had an attorney. Coe has several criminal charges on his state record, including an April conviction for misdemeanor breaking and entering. He was released from prison in mid-August, according to Department of Correction records.

He was previously convicted of assault on a female, felony breaking and entering, larceny, robbery and other charges dating back to 2001.

Investigators found a blanket that may have belonged to Shaniya in a garbage can outside a neighbor's home. Lt. Alex Thompson said investigators also found other items Shaniya may have been wearing.

Shaniya's mother, Antoinette Davis, and her father, who flew in from out of state, have been speaking with investigators.

I forgot to bold the statement on the above article that the clothes that she was said to be wearing were also found, That poor baby.

Omg this case just has BS wrote all over it. I am so pi**ed off. How can she not know? Didn't she say she moved her @ 5 30. And then didn't I read where someone saw coe drive away with her @ 1 something. I think that is what I read. It was close to 2 I thought. Am I wrong. Im sure this MOM........and I only use that work so we know who Im talking about, not because she deserves it.......is in bbad trouble herself, she has lied about things in this case, she never mentioned the child being with this so-called boyfriend.....and she said she put her on the couch and she was missing a hour later.....all lies.......I hope they find her soon...and I hope they lock both these people up and put the other child somewhere safe.....

I think this mother will share the charges against her boyfriend if she has lied to the police.  Isn't that what usually happens, they are BOTH charged with the crime?  She may weasle out of it some way at trial but I hope she is charged equally if she lied and knew the child was already harmed and just made up that part about putting her on the couch.

I live in very close proximity to my neighbors and hear sounds coming from their places all the time. I rarely ever look out to see what's going on or do they when they hear me outside.

but this Lady said that she heard something hitting her house or side of her porch or something, not the neighbors, and this is where LE found the little girls blanket, in this lady's garbage can..

I think there was also feces on the sofa, or so I read earlier, maybe this was a crime committed in a rage after she couldn't hold it in anymore and she evacuated on the sofa and blankie. Perhaps mom just lost it at that point and the boyfriend got rid of this little girl on his way home.

Perhaps Mom and boyfriend had a fight that night? perhaps boyfriend took Shaniya out of the house when he left?
Perhaps the neighbor who heard the noise around her garbage cans that night really DID get up and look outside and she is the witness who saw Coe drive away but she doesn't want to admit it and the police won't say it was her for fear of retaliation?
This little girl could very well be alive somewhere...He may not have hurt her...Maybe he did this to get back at the mom and she is hiding somewhere...maybe the little girl had soiled herself and had changed her own clothes and the mom was not aware...lots of possibilities...I am hoping and praying that this man is not so evil to harm this little child...please let this be the case...,.

I don't know what to say...I am so sad right now. It is not looking good they will find this little girl alive. At least there has been an arrest. It must have appeared she was alive because it's kidnapping he's charged with. Kidnapping charges are usually for people that are alive right? I wish we knew what time he left. i'm not positive if it has to be a live person or not.  i think at this point they had clear evidence that he took her from the mobile home (this would explain why they didn't check the septic tank for shaniya as they prob knew all along that he had moved her from the mobile home)...

they prob arrested him with the kidnapping charges so they could get him into police custody and put pressure on him to reveal her location. i believe his arraignment was today at 2pm so hopefully we will get some information soon!

I've been doing chores around the house, and I just  stopped to check the forum.  I went to a couple of other threads first, even though my mind was on this one.  A feeling of dread came over me as I clicked onto Shaniya's thread.  It's like I'm almost afraid to look, to know what happened after reading about the conditions of the home and the history.   It doesn't look like anything new has been reported yet.   I hope there has been no evidence indicating Shaniya isn't alive.  I pray she can be found alive and hope she can have a better and different life than the one she's had.    ::MonkeyAngel::  Praying for Shaniya.   ::MonkeyAngel::

Fayetteville police: Girl's kidnapping not "a random incident"

Police say the apparent kidnapping of a 5-year-old girl this week wasn't "a random incident."

Investigators charged Clarence Darriel Coe, 30, with first-degree kidnapping late Wednesday. The girl, Shaniya Davis, remains missing.

Coe is the boyfriend of Antoinette Davis, Shaniya's mother, according to Barbara Davenport, who manages the Sleepy Hollow Mobile Home Park where the Davis family lives.

Police wouldn't comment on any relationship between Coe and the Davises.

"It's safe to say it's not a random incident," police spokeswoman Theresa Chance said.

Chance said this morning that a witness in the trailer park off Murchison Road told police they saw Coe drive out of the park with Shaniya in his vehicle. The spokeswoman wouldn't say when Coe was seen with the girl.

Klaas anything is possible this day and time, or maybe she owed money for drugs or something. I think Dad needs to step up and get custody of his children if they both belong to him.

I think it is a custody issue. She probably has had the girl hidden so dad can't see her. We haven't seen hide nor hair of the mother on t.v. begging for the return of her daughter but we have seen the father and clearly he is distraught.

Cookie she was alive at 6:11 Tuesday morning at the motel. Parents identified her from the film from the motel. The police say they have no reason to believe he would harm her. He has a record but not involving children. But it has been 2 days since then. He could be anywhere by now. Just pray he doesn't harm her.

Several counts of inflicting serious bodily injury, a handful of drug charges, fleeing the police, threats against the government...  And LE don't feel he will harm her  ::MonkeyEek::

i think it has something to do with drugs... either she sold her for drugs, or she was taken from her because she owed money for drugs or something like that..and the mother didnt want the cops to know it had to do with drugs because she was too worried about saving her own butt than saving her daughter, which could account for her varying stories...

In one of the articles posted today it said the Mom had moved in the trailer with her sister several weeks ago and Shaniya had moved in about 3 weeks ago. Wonder where she had been before that?.

I don't know everyone, I see a scared little girl who is being held so she doesn't run off and going to a room with a man and it scares me. I hope and pray with all of my heart that this guy has not hurt her or sold her off to someone in order to pay a drug debt. Why did her mama report her missing like that?  Times don't work out for me.

And why the sewage back up?  That's the landlord's responsibility.  Did the tenets not report the trouble with the septic/toilet?  Because?  People living there that shouldn't be?  The repairman would see something they shouldn't?  Things don't add up.

I agree....
I still say that the boyfriend did not do this...he may be involved somewhat, but I don't think that he would be the mastermind behind this...jmo....the police have to know what is going on as JG states above..It might turn out that he is the fall guy for this mom as I have said before...we will see...but there must be something on him or he wouldn't have been arrested? unless they did this to make him talk and to fish out this other guy?
there has been no tearful "please return"  from the mom...in fact, she has not even been seen from what I have seen on here and on tv...they didn't give her air time cause they figured out from the get go that she is involved and that it would be a waste of time to plead to a "kidnapper" cause they know that she knows that there wasn't one and that the child is ok..
I feel that the child will be found today and that she will be ok....

Police: Missing 5-year-old seen with man at Sanford hotel

A missing 5-year-old Fayetteville girl was seen with a man at a Sanford hotel early Tuesday, less than an hour before she was reported missing by her mother.

Fayetteville police said they are looking for the man who was captured on surveillance video at the hotel with 5-year-old Shaniya Davis. The man is identified as 29-year-old Mario Andrette McNeill, police said.

Shaniya's father, Bradley Lockhart, pleaded with McNeill to take his daughter to the nearest law enforcement center Thursday night. Lockhart was speaking at a press conference at the Fayetteville Police Department.

"Don't give up honey, don't give up," Lockhart offered to his daughter while choking back tears.

The hotel video was taken at 6:11 a.m. Tuesday. The girl's mother, Antoinette Davis, reported Shaniya missing at 6:53 a.m.

Video surveillance from the hotel video cameras shows McNeill holding Davis in his arms waiting for the elevator.

Police said McNeill has a criminal history but none of it involves children.

We now know why the search dogs didn't pick up the Child's scent, she wasn't at Trailer park but instead at the Hotel.
I amazed at the search dogs, that was a big clue in not picking up her scent.

I wonder how much the father was in Shaniya's life? He seems very loving and very distraught as did the aunt...they look like good decent people who would give Shaniya a better environment than she has had with the the mother.....jmo....I wonder if the father had any idea of the lifestyle that his little daughter was subjected to? my guess would be no...

I keep going back to this thought.  I remember when I used to get up early for work just my puttering around the house used to wake my son up, so I'd put him back on the sofa with his blanket and pillow and turn on the tv and he'd almost always go back to sleep.  Who knows what woke her up. 

If the police had found drugs at the house before,  I feel like that is the reason someone took her.

Thanks for the Welcome! I just posted this question on another forum and no answer yet so I'll ask it here. Coe was arrested late Wednesday evening. I believe LE already had seen the tapes from the motel and knew it wasn't Coe, so if Coe had nothing to do with this abduction then why was he put behind bars in the first place and why is he still behind bars?

Could Coe have handed Shaniya off to Mario McNeill?  Coe took her out of the house and took her to McNeill?

good question....Coe could have been the weakest link? the one who police thought would talk? perhaps he did drive away with Shaniya?  I would think that to arrest him and showing him  before the judge on national tv that there must be something on this guy....
I am thinking that he got duped into all of this and did not realize the seriousness  ..he doesn't seem the brightest...I still think that perhaps the child was taken because of a drug debt and it got out of hand....maybe Coe and this other guy didn't think that the mom would call the police and it backfired on them....lots of things to look at that is for sure...time will tell...the most important thing is that she will be found alive....today will be the day...I feel sure of that! always keep the faith Monkeys!

I didn't like Coe's attitude in the courtroom yesterday. I just wanted to slap that guy. Even if he isn't guilty he should have showed some respect. Not rolling his eyes and stuff. Does anyone here know what the "Terrorizing" the mother charge that Coe has against him is about?

There is a witness (and maybe even a security video) that shows COE driving off with Shaniya in his car that morning.  So the question is why and how did Shaniya end up with McNeill? 

Okay, I missed that part. I knew there was a witness but didn't know there was actually a tape that shows him driving off with her. That answers some questions!

No, I was saying maybe but for good reason.  They said they were studying the security tape of the Sleepy Hollow park.  Then the report came out that a witness saw COE drive off with Shaniya in his car.  So what did the security tape show?

I just thought maybe because it was his car, they just assumed it was Coe, but they must have gotten a very good look and know then it was Coe. I wonder if this McNeil is maybe a roomate of Coe, or maybe a drug dealer of the mom's? That is of course if the mom is involved with drugs, I know there was some talk about that earlier.

Man wanted in 5-year-old missing girl case has criminal record

The man seen carrying a missing 5-year-old girl into a Sanford hotel has a lengthy criminal history, according to the state's Departmetn of Correction Web site.

Mario Andrette McNeill, 29, has been identified as the man seen on surveillance tape with Shaniya Davis, who has been missing since Tuesday morning, Fayetteville police said.

A worker at the hotel called police after seeing a girl matching Shaniya's description, according to police. The worker reported that Shaniya was with a man.

Shaniya's mother, Antoinette Davis, told police she last saw her daughter about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday morning at her home in Sleepy Hollow Mobile Home Park off Murchison Road.

Another man, 30-year-old Clarence Darriel Coe, was charged late Wednesday with first-degree kidnapping. His bail was set at $100,000.

A witness reported seeing Coe drive away from the park with Shaniya in the vehicle, police said.

McNeill's criminal record shows that he has spent time in prison off and on since 2001.

His record includes at least three felony assault charges and numerous drug-related charges.

McNeill was released in May 2006 after serving a four-year sentence for felony assault, according to DOC reords.

Police said Shaniya's mother has been in and out of the police department helping in the investigation and remains in town. The 7-year-old boy is now in foster care.

Anyone with information about Shaniya is asked to call 433-1585.

Fayetteville, N.C. — A second man has been charged in the disappearance of a 5-year-old girl, police said Friday, but the whereabouts of the girl are still unknown.

Mario Andrette McNeill, 29, was arrested early Friday and and charged with kidnapping. He was being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $100,000 bond and was expected to make his initial court appearance at 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Police also dropped the kidnapping charge against another man in the case and released him.

Shaniya Nicole Davis was reported missing from her home, at 1116-A Sleepy Hollow Drive in Fayetteville, Tuesday morning. Her mother told police she put the girl on a couch at 5:30 a.m., but she was gone when her mother went to check on her about an hour later.

A worker in a Sanford hotel called Fayetteville police on Tuesday to report seeing a child matching Shaniya's description with a man at the hotel. A security video showed the girl with a man believed to be McNeill at the hotel at 6:11 a.m. Tuesday.

By the time Fayetteville investigators reached the hotel, the man and the child had checked out, police said.

Shaniya appeared to be "well taken care of," Theresa Chance, spokeswoman for the Fayetteville Police Department, said Thursday night.

"We believe she is safe," Chance said.

McNeill has a criminal history, including arrests for fleeing to elude arrest, assault on a female and drug possession.

His relationship to the child is unknown.

Police arrested Clarence Darriel Coe, 30, of 211 Brookwood Ave. in Fayetteville, late Wednesday and charged him with first-degree kidnapping in the case.

A witness saw a man police believe to be Coe driving away from the Sleepy Hollow Mobile Home Park on Tuesday with Shaniya in his car, police said.

Chance said investigators have determined he wasn't involved in Shaniya's disappearance, and they dropped the charge against him Friday morning.

Shaniya is described as 3 feet tall and 40 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a blue T-shirt with pink underwear. She is thin and has a scar on her foot.

Anyone with information on Shaniya's whereabouts is asked to call the Fayetteville Police Department at 910-433-1856 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477.

2nd arrest in missing girl case

FAYETEVILLE, NC (WTVD) -- Police in Fayetteville say they've made a second arrest in the case of a missing 5-year-old who's the focus of a nationwide Amber Alert.

Shaniya Davis has been missing since Tuesday. Fayetteville Police Department spokesperson Theresa Chance said Davis was spotted alive in the company of a 29-year-old man the morning she disappeared. Now that man, Mario Andrette McNeill, has been arrested.

Chance had no information on the whereabouts of Davis.

"I can't speak to if she's alive or not," Chance told reporters at a Friday morning news conference.

Police said they started looking for McNeill after getting a tip from a hotel in Sanford that he had been there with Davis. Sanford is about 40 miles north of Fayetteville. Detectives said surveillance video at the hotel showed the man carrying the girl towards an elevator at 6:11 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Chance said McNeill was taken into custody Thursday night and has been questioned. She said he admitted to the kidnapping. She would not elaborate on where Davis might be, but did say police are hopeful of finding her alive.

Davis' father pleaded at a Thursday night news conference for his daughter's safe return.

"Shaniya, if you are listening to daddy ... I miss you so much ... I'm not going to give up," Bradley Lockhart said.

Thursday, the Fayetteville Police Department had announced another arrest in the case. Clarence Coe, 30, of Brookwood Avenue in Fayetteville was charged with first-degree kidnapping after a witness told investigators they saw him leaving the mobile home park where Davis lives with her in his car.

But at Friday's news conference, Chance said there is new evidence that shows Coe was not involved, and said he will be released.

McNeill has an extensive criminal background. An ABC11 check of his record turned up convictions for selling illegal drugs, assault, shooting into an occupied home, and more.

He was set to be arraigned on first-degree kidnapping charges later Friday..

So McNeil admitted to the kidnapping, but hasnt said where Shaniya is???  Hmm.....something is really off with all this, and now I wonder if it was McNeil that was seen with Shaniya in his car instead of Coe,,,,,,,all this is confusing and doesnt make sense, I bet LE knows alot more then we do, so just maybe they will get to the bottom of where Shaniya is and soon, before anyone can move her again.....This child has to be scared to death.....I pray she is alive and well and he didnt harm her befor he was caught, but Im not gettting a good feeling about this,,,,,he sure got rid of her fast.......Please God watch over her now!!

Im with you HH, Im not getting a good feeling either. If he watched any news and found out they have him on tape with her, he could have gotten spooked.  With people owing for drugs, and so many pervs out there wanting children, this isnt good at all.

They are all connected, some how , some way....McNeil, Coe, the mother, the sister...we will find they are all connected.  Something is really shady about this.

The lady that runs the trailer park, said on Prime News yesterday, that Coe was told NOT to come back to the trailer park. They have had words.  I believe she said she talked to Shaniya's Aunt who is the one that lives at the trailer park, that the mother was only there to babysit, not lived there and Coe is the mothers boyfriend.

I will be very surprised if the family doesnt know him.  We are talking a trailer park, I would say several children there.  This happened during the middle of the night.  Was he lurking?

Well Im thinking that this McNeil guy did know the family somehow, otherwise, how did he know where to find Shaniya, since the Mother didnt live there and was suppose to be there babysitting, and how did he know to show up at the precise moment that the Mother put her on the sofa and left her there for a short while, Im thinking that they all knew each other in some way........Now Im worried that he did something to this child to get rid of her so he could run and not be recognized easily, this is all getting crazier as the days pass, and where the He11 is the Mother, why isnt she talking and =asking for Shaniya to be returned, thats not good in my book.......but she is still going back and forth to the police station so she isnt locked up for whatever part she played so I dont know what to think now!!

The manager of the trailer park said yesterday, that a lady that heard the disturbance outside her trailer was positive that was around 3 AM.  Then they find the blanket I think in her trash can. Which was right up against her trailer.  This happened alot earlier then 5:30.  None of them are saying anything.  Its not like most parents who would be yelling sooo very loudly to anyone who would listen.  The dad breaks my heart.

This is beginning to sound like the mom *may have* sold, traded Shaniya.  Or may have tried setting up a staged abduction?  It's been reported that there were some custody issues, with Shaniya going back n forth between family members.  This may be more of that kind of thing going on.  Who knows at this point.   ::MonkeyConfused::

It looked very unsettling last night to see a video of a grown man going into a motel room with a five year old at 6:11 in the morning.....taken on the day she was reported missing. Yes, she was alive then, but what happened to her in that motel room? That's why I couldn't understand and get all excited because the LE presser said they thought she was still alive.

Now they have the man who walked into that motel room. Where is Shaniya? My thoughts have been going to terrible places ever since seeing that video and her innocent little face. God how I hope and pray I am wrong.  ::MonkeyAngel::

If the tub/couch/blanket indeed had feces in it, and if Shaniya also had feces on her, then she would have needed a bath, and that tub wouldn't have been the place for doing that.  I wouldn't think. 

Maybe whoever took Shaniya, just grabbed a clean outfit at her home, took her somewhere and gave her a bath, then redressed her in that.  The pics we saw of her could have been after she had been cleaned up.  ??

Yep, that's supposedly what the mom said.  LE has said after that tho, that the clothes Shaniya had been wearing were found at/near her home.  Which clothes, they didn't say.  But she supposedly had only been wearing a nightshirt and panties.

Yeah... there's sev possibilites.  Some perfectly innocent, as a result of being in a home with raw sewage, perhaps backed up as has been reported....... on her blanket, for whatever reason........ and some not so innocent, as in abuse.  And I guess, anything in between. 

The mom knows more than is being told to the public, am sure of that.  And whoever actually took Shaniya knows.  If LE knows exactly what happened at the home earlier, sure wish they'd just tell us the basics.  Seems they are getting differing statements from those they are questioning and have questioned tho.  I wish there was a legal way to MAKE these people tell LE the truth!

It's been reported that there was raw sewage in the home, feces in the tub, on the couch, on the porch and railings, and 'all over' her blanket. 

That may have been her blankie, doesn't necessarily mean Shaniya had ahold of it at any point tho.  It could have been used to clean up the backed up mess.  I know I'd be grabbing anything and everything to clean a backed up mess.

All I can say is this guy had a plan...He checked into the hotel at 6:11 am, Shaniya was on couch @ 5:30 am.  He traveled to the hotel which is approx 40 miles away.  He sure didnt waste time, if that is the actual timeline.

In my idealistic hopes, I am thinking more is known and not revealed, since, a national amber alert has been issued. 

Could it be that they know the model of car that could have the child?  I am just throwing that out there, hoping that more information is leading them to the culprits, they don't want anyone to panic. Perhaps he is talking and naturally we aren't privy
to the information. Kidnapping is life in prison? He admitted to the deed, surely he wants a deal. I am hoping the amber alert
is hopefully a positive omen that something more is known.

That's what I'm thinking too, ScareyCarrie!  Not very informative.  It's as if they don't need or want help from the public at this point, nor do they seem to have a sense of urgency. 

And am hoping that means they know exactly where Shaniya is and are in the process of going and getting her right now.  One can only hope!

N.C. does carry the death penalty, (unless it is been overhauled) as far I know Kidnapping is a life sentence.

The tips seems to be of value in this case, the law knew where to find the Kidnapper, so it should be easy to backtrack his
prior stops, gas, etc.  I hope with more good leads like the Hotel woman who phoned the tip, etc. we will know sooner than later.

Somebody has cared a great deal about this child.  My guess is her daddy and her aunt.

She is beautifully dressed in those first photos we saw of her....matching shoes and lacy socks
Those are not Walmart pictures, but were made at a studio.

I hate to condemn the mother without knowing about her, but my guess is she just wanted the child
so she could collect the child support.  A caring mother would not allow her child to live in the conditions
that have been described.  I so hope that she is found alive and unharmed.

We have debated the AMBER ALERTS several times. I thought they had to have a vehicle description and a description of the perp before one could be put out, which personally I think is not necessary. Now this one comes out without even a clothing description of the child. I think an AMBER ALERT ought to be put out at the beginning of the child being missing with whatever info they have. This one looks like a big bending of the rules, but I am glad it is out there. JMO

The look on his face and in his eyes tells a story doesn't it? He had that same look as Somers mom did, that look of complete panic, worry and complete fear.

I just can't figure out what is going on with this one. I know it seems far fetched at this point, but could she have been taken from the couch? With the cloths line outside, that is a tell, tell sign a child lives there. Could this person have been hanging around, looking in windows, waiting for a perfect moment to kidnapp a child?

I have a question, if the mom set this up and arranged for him to take her, would that still be kidnapping? I am thinking not. Either the mom is very good at not talking during questioning or she does not know what happened. Am I missing something?

After listening to Prime News, the Mom is still being question exstensively....Her time of 5:30 does not add up to when he showed up at hotel.  They said it takes 46 mins to get there from Mom's location.  Also If I heard right, they say he was only there about an hour. They were looking for camera's outside and veiwing what might be caught on there.

Maybe they saw his car and that is why he had the tint charge, because he was pulled over for that?

Could the mother have been at the Hotel too?  The video did not show the mother, but that doesn't mean she wasn't there at the hotel. McNeill left the Hotel after an hour, so did he drop off the Mum off and then she called the Kidnapping in?

To me it was different from what we normally see, there was not that above the law look or cockiness or maybe anger or even fear.. he looked regretful.. Maybe a bit sad? He was somber to me. Did anyone else see that? Iwould be interested in knowing what you all felt from him.
 
What is going on with this case? The mom could have been off the time 5 or so minutes. Most people will round up or down to the quarter hour. We are missing such huge pieces to all of this. 

Maybe the poilce have Shaniya now and took her to the hospital for a check up and are talking to her... Just a Thought...

Sometimes it is maddening. Somehow the powers that be have it all wrong and victim rights and the rights of normal everyday, law obiding individuals are set a side. Damn it we all have the right to be safe and so do our children. The founding fathers surly couldn't have meant for this to happen.

I couldn't agree more. IMO - arrested/charged persons should be considered Guilty until they can prove themselves innocent. The system is assbackwards. I know I'll take crap for that one, but I don't care. Anywho....that is a whole other discussion, not for here.  ::MonkeyCool::

One thing I do not notice on him is there are no visible scratches on his face and what I can tell from his arms, I didn't see them their either. That is a good thing I guess.
