Aileen Vasquez, 27, left home Tuesday night and hasn't been seen since, police said. After putting her children to bed, she told her mother she was going to the store.

Her mother and children are very worried and are asking anyone with any information to call police.

I have a bad feeling. There are too many freaks out there who may 'take' her baby. She went to the store....someone grabbed her, I'll put money on it.

Police are searching for a pregnant Jersey City mother who disappeared from her home without her wallet, ID, cell phone or keys on Tuesday.

Her distraught mother and friends said she seemed happy when she left about 6 p.m. to go "to the store," saying she'd be back shortly.

Police said Aileen Cepeda Velasquez, 27, of Marion Place, has been missing ever since. A native of Puerto Rico and the mother of 9- and 5-year-old girls, Velasquez was nine months pregnant with another baby girl. The children's father is in Puerto Rico, police said.

The baby was due on Wednesday, according to police, who said she had packed her bags for the hospital, where she was planning to go Wednesday morning.

Investigators said they are looking for a male "friend" who is now a "person of interest" in the case. Police believe the last time Velasquez saw him was Tuesday, the day she disappeared.

According to Police Detective Ceaser Camacho, Velasquez told her 9-year-old daughter to brush her teeth and go to bed shortly after she returned from a Laundromat, and Velasquez then told her mother that she was going to the store and would return shortly.

Velasquez is active on Facebook, police said, but she has not posted to the Web site in days. Her friends have been posting help ads on Facebook to anyone who can offer information.

Juanita Pacheco, friend of Velasquez, filed the report with police, when the missing woman's mother called her late Tuesday night. What is most suspicious to us is that she left without any identification," said Pacheco.

Velasquez is 5-feet, 2-inches tall, weighs 130 pounds, and she has brown eyes and brown hair. She is very small, and never showed any signs of pregnancy, police said.

Anyone with any information about Velasquez, or who has seen a woman with a newborn baby, is asked to call the Jersey City Police Department Missing Person's Unit at 201-547-5341 or 201-547-5477 and ask for Camacho.

Mysterious disappearance of pregnant woman in NJ

Saturday, January 30, 2010
JERSEY CITY (WABC) -- Authorities in northern New Jersey are searching for a pregnant woman who disappeared just days before her due date.

Jersey City police say 27-year-old Aileen Cepeda Velasquez left her home Tuesday night to go to the store to buy a soda and did not return.

The store owners say they didn't see her that night she claimed to go buy a soda.

Flyers have been posted around her town of Jersey City asking for the public's help in locating Velasquez.

"Her children are thinking that she went to go give birth. They are wondering why she's not here, cause it doesn't take that long to give birth," said Velasquez's mother.

Family members say the native of Puerto Rico is the mother of two girls, ages 5 and 9.

Her boyfriend, who is the father of the children, lives in Puerto Rico. Family members said Friday that she planned to visit him soon.

All police are saying it they have a person of interest they want to speak to.

Anyone with information on Aileen Velasquez's whereabouts is asked to call police.

Cops: 'Missing' pregnant Jersey City mom went to Puerto Rico on her own

By Karina Arrue/The Jersey Journal
February 05, 2010, 9:46PM

Police initially thought that the pregnant Jersey City woman who disappeared from her home last week without her wallet, ID, cell phone or keys was missing, but now they are saying it was all a farce.

Aileen Cepeda Velasquez, 27, of Marion Place, said she was going to the store for a moment on the evening of Jan. 26 -- a day before her due date -- but she never returned.

Juanita Pacheco, a friend of Velasquez, filed the missing person report with police last week. But police said yesterday they have procured video proof that Velasquez voluntarily left the United States and went to Puerto Rico, said Lt. Edgar Martinez, Jersey City police spokesman.

The Journal paid a visit to her mother at her Marion Place residence yesterday, but the woman said in Spanish that she didn't know anything and refused to comment "because of nerves."

A native of Puerto Rico and the mother of 9- and 5-year-old girls, Velasquez reportedly was nine months pregnant with another baby girl, although at 5-foot-2, the 130-pound woman never showed any signs of pregnancy, police said.

The children's father is in Puerto Rico, police said.

"The Police Department is reaching out to people in an attempt to get (Velasquez) to speak with her mother and her children and police to let everyone know that she is OK," said Martinez, noting that until they talk to her, she is still classified as a missing person.

Police Director Samuel Jefferson said the department is "working in conjunction with other agencies" in an effort to stop crimes before they occur.

"The Jersey City Police Department works with the TSA and other agencies to help avoid a farce like this," he said, adding "a thousand man hours were wasted trying to track down this woman."
