19-year-old charged in blind grandmother's death By LINDSAY WISE HOUSTON CHRONICLE Feb. 19, 2010, 5:56PM (http://www.chron.com/photos/2010/02/19/20522341/260xStory.jpg) Cheretta Smith, of Galveston, is being held on $250,000 bail Texas City police have arrested a 19-year-old accused of killing her grandmother. Cheretta Smith, of Galveston, was taken into custody by Texas City police at her home in the 5400 block of Ave L, about 12:15 a.m. Friday. She is charged with murder in the death of her maternal grandmother, Theretta Gayden Miller, 57. Miller, who was blind, was discovered dead in her assisted-living apartment complex in the 2200 block of 34th Street N., on Feb. 12, said Texas City Police Department spokesman Joe Stanton. Miller had been stabbed several times, Stanton said. Smith now is being held in the Texas City Jail on $250,000 bail.
