Search for missing Spring girl 'in a holding pattern'
May 10, 2010

The ground search for a 16-year-old Spring girl who went missing two weeks ago has been suspended until more clues about her disappearance surface, said search organizers Monday.

“We just don't have a lot to go on right now,” said Bob Walcutt, executive director of the Laura Recovery Center for Missing Children. “We're in a holding pattern right now.”

Alexandria Lowitzer, a Spring High School student, has not been seen since April 26, when she got off the school bus near hear her home about 3 p.m., said her parents, John and JoAnn Lowitzer. She has a cell phone but has not called relatives or friends.

The Laura Recovery Center initiated a search last week, with volunteers combing areas near the Lowitzer home. The search was suspended Sunday evening. S heriff's officials said they have no new leads in the case, which is being investigated as a runaway case.

John Lowitzer's employer, Exel, held a fundraiser on Saturday . About $2,000 was raised, and the company gave a match of $3,000 . A Facebook page also has been set up to generate leads. John Lowitzer said the family is trying to remain hopeful.

The parents of a Spring teenager are seeking help from the community to help locate their missing daughter  Alexandria Lowitzer, Ali to her friends, is an active 16-year-old who loves to text on her cell phone and play softball. She has been missing since April 26 after getting off the school bus near her home in Spring, TX.

SPRING , TX  - Alexandria Lowitzer seems to have vanished without a trace.

No phone calls, no text messages, no good-bye letter to indicate she was upset and wanted to get away from things. No obvious reason, anyway, for her to be upset.

The last time anyone saw the 16-year-old teen from Spring, she was getting off the school bus April 26, only a few feet from her home on Low Ridge Road.

Since Saturday, May 1, the Laura Recovery Center for Missing Children, a non-profit organization based in Friendswood, has organized a massive onsite search effort that has so far drawn approximately 200 volunteers to comb the extensive wooded area behind the Lowitzer residence.

“We had a horse team out in the woods through the Greater Houston Search Dog Team, and they also brought a dog to do some tracking and trailing,” said Bob Walcutt, executive director of the Laura Recovery Center, which was contacted by Ali’s family. “So far we have nothing to hang our hat on. We had some tips, different leads, but nothing concrete.”

The Houston Police Mounted Patrol covered a large portion of the wooded expanse, assisting Precinct 4 Constable’s deputies and Harris County Sheriff’s officials in the recovery effort, Walcutt said, and two men volunteered to search the area on ATVs.

“We’re literally covering areas where someone could take a person, commit a crime and [leave] them - large wooded areas, ponds, creeks,” he said. “Around here, there are a lot of places like that and so far we have found nothing. We’re still no further along than we were on the first day.”

RUNAWAY - OR NOT?

Walcutt said his organization generally doesn’t get involved in runaway cases, which was still the current status assigned to Ali’s disappearance by law enforcement as of Friday.

“If we knew for sure this was a runaway, we would not be physically here right now,” he explained. “But Alexandria apparently lives on her phone, uses her text messaging all the time. When she left, everything stopped once she got off that bus. Everything. There has been no activity on that phone since then, which leads to the possibility that something may have happened to her at that point.”

Shaye Vaught is a friend of the Lowitzer family. Her own daughter and Ali are good friends, and over the years Ali had become a part of Vaught’s family as well.

“I love Ali to death; she’s like a third daughter to me,” she said. “She used to be in my Girl Scout troop, and it was nothing to have Ali come in the door behind my daughters after school and stay for dinner.”

Vaught, who volunteered at the Laura Recovery camp all week long, described Ali as a good kid, very sweet - a kid who would never run away to leave everything, and everyone, she loves behind. Those who know the teen say for her to miss her softball team’s season tournament and her best friend’s 16th birthday party is out of character.

“She’s a teenage girl, sure, but she’s not in any way a troublemaker,” she explained. “She was very excited about her job at Burger Barn. I think she really liked the work. She constantly called them to pick up extra shifts.”

In fact, officials believe Ali was on her way to pick up her paycheck from work, only half a mile from her home, after she got off the school bus.

Vaught said law enforcement could dedicate more resources to the search for Ali if her status were updated to “endangered.”

“It’s disheartening that she’s still listed as a runaway,” she said. “It would step things up a notch.”

Walcutt said law enforcement continues to conduct its investigation and at this time there is no hard evidence that foul play is involved. At the same time, he said, the complete lack of activity on Ali’s cell phone was enough to convince the Laura Recovery Center to get involved.

“My best hope is that she is a runaway,” he said. “In that case, she can come home and be safe and well. If she’s not a runaway, then all bets are off. In 99 out of 100 cases, everything turns out fine, but it’s that one percent that’s worrisome. Bad things do happen.”

Missing Spring Teen, Parents Fear the Worst
Alexandria Lowitzer has been Missing since April

May 10, 2010

She vanished two weeks ago and investigators aren't sure if Alexandria Lowitzer ran away or if someone snatched her but her parents are fearing the worst.
The nights and days have come and gone for John and Joan Lowitzer. They last saw their sixteen year old daughter Alexandria last month.

The teen went missing on Monday, April the twenty six. She spoke to her mother just before getting off the school bus.

"She had a good day," said Joan Lowitzer. "Life was good that day."

Ali, as her family and friends called her, never made it home for dinner.

"This is a photo of Ali as she is getting off her school bus," said John Lowitzer, holding onto a picture taken from surveillance video on Ali's school bus.

Alexandria would of been walking down Treaschwig. She was headed to her job just a few blocks down the street but co-workers told authorities they never saw walk inside.

"She didn't take any of her makeup, she didn't take her cell phone charger, no clothes nothing that would be important to a sixteen year old girl," said John Lowitzer.

Missing flyers are taped throughout Spring businesses along Treaschwig and Cypress. Volunteers with the Laura Recovery Center have even organized search parties but the teen's whereabouts are still unknown.

Investigators are waiting to hear from eye witnesses who might have clues to suggest foul play. In the meantime, both parents remain optimistic.

"I can't fear the worst," said Joan Lowitzer with tears in her eyes. "I have to keep hope that she's (going to) come home."

They're hoping to see Ali walk through the door.

If you have any information that might help investigators find Alexandria Lowitzer call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-tips.

Authorities today have released surveillance camera images for a 16-year-old Spring girl who went missing two weeks ago. Earlier this week the ground search for Alexandria Lowitzer was suspended until more clues about her disappearance surface, said search organizers on Monday.

The Spring High School student has not been seen since April 26, when she got off the school bus near her home about 3 p.m., said her parents, John and JoAnn Lowitzer. She has a cell phone but has not called relatives or friends.

Two of the newly released photos of Alexandria show her as she was getting on and off a school bus at about 3 p.m. A third photo shows her at about noon in a Spring High School hallway on the same day.

Sheriff's officials have said they have no new leads in the case, which is being investigated as a runaway case.

Family members, however, believe Alexandria didn't run away.

Search continues for missing Spring teen
May 14, 2010

SPRING, TX (KTRK) -- It's been 17 days since anyone's seen or heard from 16-year-old Alexandria, or Ali, Lowitzer.
She was last seen on April 26 getting off the bus at Knotty Post Lane and Low Ridge Drive in Spring. That's about 30 feet from her home.

She has just disappeared, and what worries her parents more is that a few months ago, in their neighborhood, another girl who is the same age was almost kidnapped.

"It's been very exhausting in the past two and a half weeks," her father said.

Lowitzer is a gifted artist. Her art adorns the family's dining room, but what her parents are now hoping for is a better portrait into her disappearance.

School bus security camera photos show Lowitzer exiting the bus on April 26.

Her home is a two-minute walk away, but she never made it home, and just about all of her belongings remain in her bedroom.

"She left her cell phone charger, where it's always put in; she had cash in her purse on the floor, and she loves to wear makeup, but none of her makeup is gone," her mother said.

And what worries her parents even more is that just a few months ago, a girl around Lowitzer's age was almost abducted.

"A car pulled up next to her and a guy got out and he tried to grab her around the neck and she bit him," Lowitzer's dad said, "so he backed off and tried to get her around the waist and she was able to get away."

And as the family prepares to head into another weekend without Lowitzer, her family is stockpiling supplies for another search.

Food and fliers fill their dining room, along with their best of hopes.

"We try to stay positive," her mother said.

Lowitzer is 5 feet 2 inches tall, 145 pounds, has hazel eyes and auburn hair. She has braces on both her upper and lower teeth.

At 9am Saturday, the Laura Recovery Center will stage another search for Lowitzer at the Northwood Baptist Church.

Search for Ali Lowitzer to Resume this Weekend
May 14, 2010

16-year-old Alexandria Lowitzer disappeared after getting off her school bus a few feet from her home on April 26, 2010.

Ali is a Girl Scout and an avid texter.  Uncharacteristically, no one has heard from her since she disappeared.  She has missed several team and personal events that she was looking forward to, leading to increasing concern about her safety.

Volunteers are needed to search for Ali this weekend, May 15-16, 2010.

Volunteers must be 18 years old or older and have a picture ID with them. Volunteers are asked to report to the Northwood Baptist Church, 5803 Treaschwig Road, Spring, Texas 77373 (281-443-2002) starting at 9AM.  Volunteers are asked to dress for searching through rugged terrain.  The last search teams will be sent out no later than 5PM.  Look for the LRC Mobile Recovery Center in the Church parking lot.

The Laura Recovery Center is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, that was founded in Laura Smither's memory. The Center focuses on Education, Search, and Prevention in the area of missing children, has offered free abduction prevention programs to over 200,000 children throughout the greater Houston area, worked with approximately 1,450 families with missing loved ones, and has organized 95 community searches for abducted children nationwide. The Center trains law enforcement at the Houston Police Department training academy and other agencies in Texas, and distributes educational materials and child ID kits.

SPRING, Texas - Inside a home where contentment once reigned, there is now torture in the passage of time.

The light of the Lowizter family's once happy life is missing. 19 days have come and gone since 16-year-old Alexandria stepped off a school bus near her parent's house in Spring and simply vanished.

"Just not knowing is the worst feeling I've ever had in my life," says Alexandria's mother, Joann Lowitzer.

A common run away? Not likely.

Allie, as she's known to her friends, seemed to love everything about her busy teenage life - art, choir, softball and especially her new job at the Burger Barn just down the road from her home.

"That's my baby girl," says her father John Lowitzer, barely able to contain his emotion.

John says his daughter has always maintained constant contact with friends, averaging 4,000 text messages a month, but since the day she went missing not a single word has come through to anyone.

It's why search parties continue to scour the thousands of wooded acres surrounding Spring.

"To be out there beating the bush and to come across something is the worst fear and the fear that we don't want to focus on. We want to have the hope that she's out there and she's okay and that she's going to come home safe," he added.

It's the kind of hope and pain that's touching deeply all who've parented and many who haven't.

"She's a wonderful person," says Joann Lowitzer, unable to hold back her tears.

A beloved person her parents pray is still living and capable of being set free.

Allie's father extended an urgent message to anyone who may know of his daughter's whereabouts.

"Let her go. Let her come home. We love her and we want her back."

Saturday morning, volunteers led by the Laura Recovery Center, plan to gather at Spring's North Wood Baptist Church and continue the search.

Spring parents still waiting for their missing teen to call
May 18, 2010

John and JoAnn Lowitzer are surrounded by “missing” posters and photos of their 16-year-old daughter, Alexandria, known as Ali.

Sometimes while driving, John Lowitzer becomes so consumed with thoughts about his missing daughter that he mutters to himself, “Where are you?”

Then, before his emotions overwhelm him, he hears a little voice that says, “Daddy, I'm OK.”

“Those are the hard things,” said Lowitzer as he tried to hold back his tears. His wife, JoAnn Lowitzer, sitting next to him in their Spring home this week, reached for his hand.

Three weeks have passed since their 16-year-old daughter, Alexandria, went missing. She was last seen April 26, getting off a school bus at Knotting Post and Low Ridge Road about 3 p.m.

Alexandria, also known as Ali, hasn't made a call or sent a text from her cell phone, and no one has reported seeing anything suspicious that day, her parents said.

An exhaustive search over the weekend turned up no clues.

Ali's disappearance has left the Lowitzers feeling numb. Frustration has also settled in because law enforcement is not treating Ali as a missing person case.

The parents struggle each day to drown out fears of what might have happened to her and try to concentrate on what's most important — finding Ali unharmed.

“Yesterday, I was feeling a little down,” John said. “Every day that goes by is one day closer to finding her, but it's also one more day we're farther behind.”

The outpouring of community support and assistance from the Laura Recovery Center for Missing Children, which has organized ground searches, has helped them get through the long days. Hundreds of people have volunteered for searches and to pass out fliers. More than 3,000 people have befriended a Facebook page dedicated to locating Ali.

“If not for the Laura Recovery Center and the volunteers, I'd be lost,” John said. “They've been like a cornerstone.”
‘She's going to call'

Harris County sheriff's officials are investigating Ali's disappearance as a runaway case, but the Lowitzers do not believe she ran away. It wasn't her nature, they said.

“We know our daughter,” John said. “She's going to call someone.”

The Spring High School student did not take anything from her room. All she has with her is her multicolored checked backpack and the clothes she wore to school, he said.

The budding artist also had a lot of activities going on in her life. She had a softball tournament the week she went missing and a friend's birthday party, which she helped plan, that she was going to attend that weekend, her mother said.

But sheriff's officials said that without any evidence of foul play, there is no reason to believe that Ali did not leave on her own free will. The department does not have criteria to determine if a case is a runaway or missing person, said Harris County sheriff's spokeswoman Christina Garza.

“Each case is different and unique, especially when dealing with children,” Garza said. “It's even more challenging.”

John said he understands that police have to follow protocol, but if she was a missing person, her case would receive more attention.

“It's just a little frustrating,” said John, who wore a green and black ribbon pinned to his shirt. Green was Ali's favorite color.
Taking the bus home

On the morning of April 26, Ali appeared to be her normal self, JoAnn said. She was a little grouchy when she got up at her usual time about 6 a.m. She then rushed to dress, put on her black eyeliner, ate breakfast and got to the bus stop by 6:15 a.m.

JoAnn said she called Ali at school around 2:30 p.m. to check on her plans after school. Ali said she would catch the bus home and walk to her job at a burger joint near her home to get her paycheck.

JoAnn said she grew concerned when she had not heard from Ali later that evening. She sent her a couple of text messages but never received a reply.

“As it got closer to 9 p.m., the more curious I got about why she had not answered me,” she said.

She drove to the burger restaurant about 9:10 p.m., only to find it closed and empty. She called John, shouting hysterically, “She's gone! She's gone!”

“I didn't know what to think,” John said. “We both felt she would come home. We didn't know what to do.”

JoAnn called police about 11 p.m., and was told to wait a little while longer, she would come home.

“They never told me what to do if she didn't come home,” she said.
First week ‘was horrific'

By morning, they said they were in a panic and realized something was terribly wrong. Cell phone records show that Ali received her last call from her mother and sent her last text at 2:57 p.m., to a male friend, her mother said. The boy, who was later contacted by John, said he didn't know anything about her whereabouts, she said.

The first week of her disappearance was nearly unbearable, the Lowitzers said.

“It was horrific for me,” John said. “I had a huge knot in my stomach. I couldn't eat or sleep. As a parent all the fears go through your mind. All the what-ifs would tear me up.”

The Lowitzers have had to do a lot of detective work and publicity on their own. John hastily made a handwritten flier the day after she disappeared and later secured video camera footage from her school. They both also knocked on doors and posted information on social websites.

The Lowitzers are working on establishing a trust fund in Ali's name and a reward for information.

The parents are also each sending Ali a text message every night.

Alexandria Lowitzer, Ali to her friends, is an active 16-year-old who loves to text on her cell phone and play softball.

"We had a horse team out in the woods through the Greater Houston Search Dog Team, and they also brought a dog to do some tracking and trailing," said Bob Walcutt, executive director of the Laura Recovery Center, which was contacted by Ali's family. "So far we have nothing to hang our hat on. We had some tips, different leads, but nothing concrete."

The Houston Police Mounted Patrol covered a large portion of the wooded expanse, assisting Precinct 4 Constable's deputies and Harris County Sheriff's officials in the recovery effort, Walcutt said, and two men volunteered to search the area on ATVs.

"We're literally covering areas where someone could take a person, commit a crime and [leave] them - large wooded areas, ponds, creeks," he said. "Around here, there are a lot of places like that and so far we have found nothing. We're still no further along than we were on the first day."

RUNAWAY - OR NOT?

Walcutt said his organization generally doesn't get involved in runaway cases, which was still the current status assigned to Ali's disappearance by law enforcement as of Friday.

"If we knew for sure this was a runaway, we would not be physically here right now," he explained. "But Alexandria apparently lives on her phone, uses her text messaging all the time. When she left, everything stopped once she got off that bus. Everything. There has been no activity on that phone since then, which leads to the possibility that something may have happened to her at that point."

Shaye Vaught is a friend of the Lowitzer family. Her own daughter and Ali are good friends, and over the years Ali had become a part of Vaught's family as well.

"I love Ali to death; she's like a third daughter to me," she said. "She used to be in my Girl Scout troop, and it was nothing to have Ali come in the door behind my daughters after school and stay for dinner."

Vaught, who volunteered at the Laura Recovery camp all week long, described Ali as a good kid, very sweet - a kid who would never run away to leave everything, and everyone, she loves behind. Those who know the teen say for her to miss her softball team's season tournament and her best friend's 16th birthday party is out of character.

"She's a teenage girl, sure, but she's not in any way a troublemaker," she explained. "She was very excited about her job at Burger Barn. I think she really liked the work. She constantly called them to pick up extra shifts."

In fact, officials believe Ali was on her way to pick up her paycheck from work, only half a mile from her home, after she got off the school bus.

Vaught said law enforcement could dedicate more resources to the search for Ali if her status were updated to "endangered."

"It's disheartening that she's still listed as a runaway," she said. "It would step things up a notch."

Walcutt said law enforcement continues to conduct its investigation and at this time there is no hard evidence that foul play is involved. At the same time, he said, the complete lack of activity on Ali's cell phone was enough to convince the Laura Recovery Center to get involved.

"My best hope is that she is a runaway," he said. "In that case, she can come home and be safe and well. If she's not a runaway, then all bets are off. In 99 out of 100 cases, everything turns out fine, but it's that one percent that's worrisome. Bad things do happen."

Homicide detectives now involved in search for missing Spring teen
May 19, 2010

HOUSTON -- Homicide detectives are now involved in the case of a missing high school sophomore that shocked a community and continues to baffle investigators.

Ali Lowitzer was last seen on April 26 getting off her school bus just feet from her home near Knotty Post Drive and Low Ridge Road in Spring.

Detectives with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office’s Runaway Division initially worked the case. They continue to do so, but the addition of homicide detectives allows for additional resources.

“They’ve got more detectives involved in the case,” said Bob Walcutt, the executive director of the Laura Recovery Center for Missing Children. “They’re following up on more of the leads and more of the tips, everything they possibly can to help resolve this case.”

Walcutt has been involved in the search efforts since Ali disappeared without a trace. He has already organized three searches with 200 volunteers through wooded areas near the teen’s home.

A fourth search is planned for Saturday at 9 a.m. at the North Woods Baptist Church in the 5800 block of Treaschwig Rd. in Spring.

“In this situation we honestly really don’t know what we’re dealing with. The young lady got off the bus and from that point forward all communications just seemed to come to a halt,” he said. “From our standpoint the mere fact that she has had no communication with anybody, that we know of, makes it look like there’s a possibility of something having happened.”

Meanwhile, Ali’s parents continue to hold out hope.

“You can’t eat, your stomach is knotted, you kind of go numb a little bit,” said her father John Lowitzer.

Ali’s parents describe their daughter as a very involved teen. They said she loves to sing and that she’s an artist. They also joked that she’s a professional cell phone texter.

“According to phone records she would text about 4,000 a month,” said her mother Jo Ann Lowitzer.

But, three weeks ago the texts stopped.

“For that to stop is just baffling,” said her father.

That’s one of the reasons why John and Jo Ann Lowitzer don’t believe their daughter ran away.

There’s also another.

“You kind of have a connection with your loved ones in your family and you just feel when something is not right, when something is wrong, and that’s the feeling I got. Something is wrong,” said Ali’s father.

Ali’s parents are waiting for the day their daughter comes home.

“I send her a text every night before I go to bed,” said her mother.  “I’m just hoping that sometime I will get a reply.”

If you have any information about this case contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

This part stands out to me.  As much as we would all like Ali to come home safe, we all know chances are she won't.  No matter what you believe...her father knows and she's communicating with him already. ::MonkeyAngel::

Teen's ‘runaway' status frustrates father
He says more help is available if she is classified as kidnap victim

May 23, 2010

Alexandria Lowitzer's father said investigators think she ran off because entries in a journal signal she had considered running away.

The father of a Spring girl missing for nearly a month said Sunday he is troubled that his daughter is still being classified as a runaway by the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

“I'm not angry, but I'm frustrated,” said John Lowitzer, whose 16-year-old daughter Alexandria — Ali — vanished April 26 and has had no contact with friends or family since. “I know they are chasing leads and doing what they can do. But they still think she ran away. If they change her status, we can get more resources.”

Lowitzer said officials have indicated that if the case were classified as a kidnapping, for instance, the search for his daughter could potentially include specialized teams, forensics experts and high-tech aerial photography from the FBI and the Texas Rangers.

Amber Alerts aren't issued for runaways and Crime Stoppers isn't involved in missing persons cases.

Lowitzer said he believes investigators think Ali ran off because entries in a journal found in her bedroom indicated she had contemplated running away. But Lowitzer maintains Ali wrote such comments in could have been written as many as three years ago.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office, which pulled its homicide division into the case early last week as a “fresh pair of eyes” on the case, is “looking into it non-stop,” said Christina Garza, manager of media relations.

The sheriff's office considers the teen's disappearance a missing person's case because investigators lack evidence to classify it otherwise, she said.

“I understand the father's frustration, in the sense that she's missing,” Garza said. “But both units, missing persons and the homicide unit, have put and will not stop putting all their resources into finding this girl. We hope she's found alive, and soon.”
More resources

Ali's father said he was pleased when the homicide division joined the case last week because more resources are now being used to find Ali. The division, he said, searched various areas in far north Harris County on Sunday.

Lowitzer said he visited with homicide investigators for hours Friday, even taking a polygraph test, which he passed “with flying colors.”

Ali's father reasons the teen must have been abducted or is otherwise being held against her will.

Remaining in her bedroom are about $30 in cash, her purse, clothing and phone charger, which she regularly used to support her 3,000-plus monthly text message usage. Her cell phone hasn't been used since she vanished.

“It doesn't make sense to me. I ran away at 16 and took everything with me,” he said.

Ali's mother further pointed out that Ali missed her best friend's 16th birthday party about three weeks ago.

“She would never have missed that party,” JoAnn Lowitzer said. “She would never stay gone this long on her own.”

That Monday afternoon before she vanished, Ali called her mother and said she didn't have a key to their home in the Postwood subdivision and was going to walk to the Burger Barn on Cypresswood about a quarter-mile away to pick up her paycheck.

That was odd because Ali had never trekked the distance before.
Trouble sleeping

Ali's mother told her the house was unlocked, but Ali indicated she was nonetheless going to pick up her paycheck. She never arrived at the eatery and never picked up her check, they said.

The Lowitzers are having trouble sleeping and fighting off horrific images about the possible fate of their daughter, who isn't at all street savvy, her father said.

Her parents think there probably isn't any online connection because Ali had limited access to her Facebook and MySpace pages because the computer at home crashed from viruses and Ali's cell phone did not have Internet access services.

Ali's father pleaded with anyone who might have his daughter.

“To whoever has her: If this was your loved one, you'd want them back. So please let her go. Please call and let someone know where she is.”

Search Continues for Missing Teen
May 25, 2010

ABC: It's been 17 days since anyone's seen or heard from 16-year-old Alexandria, or Ali, Lowitzer.

From Nancy Grace 5.25.10

Very quickly shifting gears, I want to tell you about a missing Girl Scout. Take a listen.

UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: More details emerge in the case of a missing Texas Girl Scout last seen getting off the school bus just blocks from her own home.

JOHN LOWITZER, FATHER OF MISSING TEEN GIRL SCOUT, ALI LOWITZER: We think that there`s foul play.

UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: However, Ali`s family is sure that she was kidnapped or is being held against her will.

LOWITZER: The unfortunate thing is we don`t have any proof that there`s foul play and we don`t have any proof that there`s not.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The mere fact that she has had no communication with anybody that we know of makes it look like there`s a possibility of something having happened.

GRACE: No activity on her cell phone, no text messages at all, no use of a credit card or an ATM.

UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: Video reportedly shows her leaving the bus just 30 feet from her own home. That`s the last time anyone saw Ali. Ali`s parents say they`ve had no contact with her since she was last seen and there`s been no activity on her cell phone.

JOANN LOWITZER, MOTHER OF MISSING TEEN GIRL SCOUT, ALI LOWITZER: She was going to walk to work and pick up her paycheck. And that was the last that I talked to her.

(END OF VIDEO CLIP)

GRACE: We are taking your calls live very quickly. Out to John Lowitzer and Joann Lowitzer, parents of the missing teen, Ali.

John and Joann, thank you for being with us. I want to get Ali`s picture back out there tonight.

Everyone, the tip line 713-967-5810. Take a look at this little girl. Great grades, beautiful, Girl Scout, planning an "Alice in Wonderland" birthday party she never attended.

To John and Joann -- first to you, John, is it true that this is a girl who would text like 3,000 times a month? That`s not unusual for teenagers now. Since she went missing, not one text has appeared on her phone?

JOHN LOWITZER: Not one text, not one phone call, no activity whatsoever. She`s even got a GPS on there and there`s been no activity. We can`t even ping her phone.

GRACE: Now that`s extremely odd. Does the phone have to be on for it to be pinged?

JOHN LOWITZER: It does. It has to be on.

GRACE: So she doesn`t even have it on. Tell me, John, about the last time you heard from her, you or your wife.

JOHN LOWITZER: Well, the last time I had heard from her was the Saturday before she went missing. Joann had had a conversation with her that day at approximately 2:30, I believe. So it was shortly before she went missing when Joann talked to her.

GRACE: And it`s my understanding she was headed back to the hamburger shack where she worked in addition to going to school to pick up her paycheck. Did she make it there? Did she get her check, John?

JOHN LOWITZER: No, she did not. She got off the bus. She started to walk to where her work is to the Burger Barn and it`s less than a quarter mile away. And she never made it. We checked with her boss and we checked with the employees there. And they said they never saw her. She never arrived.

GRACE: Can you confirm that she was on the bus, John?

JOHN LOWITZER: Absolutely. I saw the footage myself. I had to go to the Transportation Department and actually view the footage to confirm that she was.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

JOANN LOWITZER: According to the phone records she would text about 4,000 a month.

JOHN LOWITZER: For that to just stop is baffling.

JOANN LOWITZER: I would send her a text every night before I go to bed, just hoping that sometime I`ll get a reply.

(END OF VIDEO CLIP)

GRACE: We are talking about a little Girl Scout now missing for many, many days. Can you help us find Ali?

To Clark Goldband -- Rosie, can you put up the map for me? Explain to me, where was the bus? We know she was on the bus because the dad says he can identify her on surveillance video. Where is the bus stop? Where is the Burger Shack where she worked? And where is home?

CLARK GOLDBAND, NANCY GRACE PRODUCER, COVERING STORY: And Nancy, that`s where things go very, very murky. As you can see, the bus stop on that map there just 30 feet from the home, just a few steps.

And Nancy, her place of employment, that shack where they serve hamburgers, just a half mile away. So very close distance, but no one knows what happened to Ali after she got off the bus in that last fateful surveillance image.

GRACE: Was that, John -- this is Ali`s mother and father, and Joann Lowitzer. Would that be the correct bus stop for her to get off to get to the Burger Shack where she worked?

JOHN LOWITZER: That`s the same bus stop she always gets of at.

GRACE: OK. So there is no doubt in my mind -- she hasn`t run away or she wouldn`t have called and say, hey, I`m going to pick up my check, get on the bus, go -- get off by the Burger Shack and start working to the Burger Shack. She never made it. Somewhere between that bus stop and the Burger Shack, something went wrong.

JOHN LOWITZER: Something went very wrong.

JOANN LOWITZER: And she doesn`t normally walk to work every day. That was probably the first time that she had walked.

GRACE: We are taking your calls. Randi in Utah, hi, Randy.

RANDY, CALLER FROM UTAH: Hi, how are you?

GRACE: I`m good, dear. What`s your question?

RANDY: Could there have been somebody like an older gentleman -- you know, older age wise -- that she started hanging around with? That maybe - -

GRACE: Excellent question. To John and Joann Lowitzer, have police looked at her laptop and have they pulled up all of her text messages? Certainly there is something there that they could go on.

JOANN LOWITZER: We didn`t have a home computer. So the only Internet access she would have had was at a friend`s house or from school.

GRACE: What about her text messages?

JOHN LOWITZER: Unfortunately for the text messages, all we can figure out is the data -- what we don`t have is the data. What we do have is the phone numbers and that times that she texted or called somebody. And our private investigator Max Hanford has been very diligent in figuring out exactly all -- who all those people are and getting in contact with them.

The question about the computer, like Joanne said, there hasn`t been a computer in the house in about a year. So, you know, she`s had no online activity from the house.

GRACE: Everyone, you are seeing video and shots of teenaged girl Ali. Alexandria Lowitzer, 5`2", 145 pounds, hazel eyes, auburn hair. Tip line 713-967-5810.

This case is bugging the heck out of me. For one thing, there are 145 sex offenders in Spring Texas. This is a large amount compared to its population. Once again, because Ali is a teen, she is deemed a runaway. When are the powers to be going to quit assuming every child 12 and over is a runaway? Looking at the case, there is one thing that stood out to me. She probably would have had to walk by "The Springs of Living Water Assembly Church". I wonder if there are any meetings held there for those with addiction problems?

This link mentions 2 other missing girls...... http://www.hcnonline.com/articles/2010/05/22/conroe_courier/news/body052310.txt

Norris did not say if the body could possibly be connected to the recent disappearance of two teenage girls. Jordan Hope Johnson, a 17-year-old Oak Ridge High School junior, reportedly went missing April 23, while 17-year-old Chastity Armstrong is a Lake Houston area girl who went missing April 16.

FACEBOOK COMMUNITY FORMS TO SEARCH FOR ALI LOWITZER
May 28, 2010

More girls missing from the Houston area in past few weeks -

‘I wear my ribbon every day and every day I know we are closer to Ali coming home safe. I will also now be wearing my bracelets everyday! We miss you Ali and Alyssa misses you soo very much,” posted by Susan on the “Bring Home Ali Lowitzer” Facebook page.

The wall of the Facebook page is adorned with heart-wrenching well wishes from friends and loved ones as well as statements of support from strangers across the nation. All of these people have come together via the social network Facebook for one purpose to “Bring Home Ali Lowitzer”.

Ali Lowitzer is a 16 year old-girl who disappeared on April 26, 2010 after getting off her school bus on Low Ridge Road in Spring just a few blocks from her home. No one has seen or heard from Ali since. The Harris County Sheriff’s Department categorized her disappearance as a run-away. In the past few days however, Houston Homicide Detectives have joined the case.

Ali spoke with her mother, Jo Ann Davis Lowitzer, the afternoon she disappeared. Ali told her mother she was going to go stop by her work, the Burger Barn, and pick up her paycheck before going home. Ali never showed up at the Burger Barn. Her check was never retrieved. She didn’t make it home. Since that time no one has reported any communication from Ali. Ali’s cell phone has been quiet. No one has received a text from Ali. Nothing.

Friends and volunteers from Spring, as well as the Laura Recovery Center, have worked to organize searches for Ali focusing on the areas where she was last seen, and in particular, the wooded area behind Ali’s home.

Concerned parents, neighbors and total strangers have now joined forces via the “Bring Home Ali Lowitzer” Facebook page to offer assistance, help raise funds for an ongoing search, to raise awareness of Ali’s disappearance, and to offer encouragement.

Funds are being raised through the sale of wrist bands and t-shirts which will also serve to raise awareness of Ali’s disappearance.

A posting on Facebook explains, “Contact Tammy Hearn Murr for Bracelets and T-Shirts. The bracelets are $5.00. They will also be taking orders for shirts for $10.00 each and must be paid for before the shirts are made. If anyone needs "Hope for Ali" ribbons please send me a private message. I still have plenty. There is no cost for the ribbons.”

The postings on “Bring Home Ali Lowitzer” run the full gamut of support, from anger to heartfelt prayer.
Anger -
“Just got the Spring Times in the mail. I wonder why there is no mention of Ali in there? Sad that the school district doesn't care enough to protect the children in their school districts by making parents aware of this situation. I was up at the elementary school the other day volunteering, and most the people ther...e didn't even know about Ali. This seriously makes me sick. I told the Principal about it, and she said..oh, I think she went to elementary here...no signs...nothing.”
Concern –
“As a bus driver, i see so many children everyday. I find myself looking into the eyes of every child who boards my bus! I pray for Ali and her family. My son misses her soooo very much!”
Prayer –
“Lord Jesus, Father God, please forgive us for the things we say and do that turn our desperate prayers silent to your ears. wash us clean and make us holy in your sight so that you may hear our plea of revelation as to the whereabouts of your child Ali.”
The Facebook page is important because now over 4,000 people are joined in sharing information and working to spread the word about Ali Lowitzer’s disappearance. The more light that can be shed on Ali the better.
CNN Headline News’ Nancy Grace did a quick piece on Ali last week -http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/crime/2010/05/25/ng.girl.scout.missing.cnn
Unfortunately, the horror of missing children, particularly girls, is not limited to Ali Lowitzer’s disappearance. Several other girls around the same age as Ali have gone missing in just the past few weeks from the Houston area, most from NW and North Houston locations.
Alyssa Lynn Suarez – Age 15. Missing from Cypress, Texas since May 3, 2010
Ali Lowitzer – Age 16. Missing from Spring, Texas since April 26, 2010
Jordan Johnson – Age 17. Missing from Spring, Texas since April 23, 2010
Chasity Armstrong – Age 17. Missing from Katy, Texas since April 16, 2010
Cynthia Tucker – Age 15. Missing from North Houston, Texas since April 12 2010
If you have any information about any of these missing teens please contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Department at713-221-6000, or the Laura Recovery Center at 281-482-LRCF(5723) or (toll free) 866-898-5723.
The internet is an incredibly powerful tool for getting the word out about Ali Lowitzer and all these missing girls. Please forward this story to everyone you know. Post it on your Facebook or Twitter. Help shed light on this tragic situation.

It's hard not to think the worst here. 5 girls missing in this area? How could you NOT think bad things?

I haven't read everything in this thread but have been following when I can and did see the case on NG or JVM a few nights ago, and have been alerted to the the fact that Ali has been missing since the beginning.

I can help but wonder if this is all related to the Katrina Crime Wave. Houston's homicide rate increased 7 times after most left New Orleans for Houston. Just a thought.

I was initially thinking that this case was similar to the two girls shot as they got off their bus in Oklahoma, but I now doubt that is correct. I think these cases are linked. I *think* it's entirely possible that these are related to a serial predator. And a very successful one to date.

I can add any new info to the maps - including the bodies that were reportedly found if anyone would like me to.

I hope this is all solved quickly because this has the makings (appearance wise) of a real mess.

snipped from Muffybee's post # 24 - from Momlogic.

Quote
And what worries her parents even more is that just a few months ago, a girl around Lowitzer's age was almost abducted.

"A car pulled up next to her and a guy got out and he tried to grab her around the neck and she bit him," Lowitzer's dad said, "so he backed off and tried to get her around the waist and she was able to get away."

does anyone know where this took place? I would like to add it to the map. It must be close if the father - Mr. Lowitzer - knows about it and implies it could be linked.

In the meantime, I would suggest that everyone pick up their kids at the bus-stop if the can. And everyone else find a buddy to walk home with.

Also, with summer approaching and kids getting jobs and away from home, parents might consider driving them and picking them up. Especially if you have a daughter that is between 13 and 18, as this appears to be the age targeted.

Predators ALWAYS look for kids that are alone.

Just some suggestions.

Prayers for Ali

I noticed something here - maybe something  / maybe not. But I'm going to post it anyway in case there is a correlation.

First, I would like to say that I don't have enough info to definitively conclude anything. Just strong suspicions. and I could revise my predator map should more info become available. Personally, I think this case should be the highest priority on the board and it's pretty obvious why. But that's just my opinion. My perception is that there *could* be a major monster in the area. I have always trusted my instincts in these cases and I am wrong just as everyone else is from time to time. Maybe this is all a series of unusual coincidences - but I doubt it.

I would also like to state that I am shocked that this is not getting more national attention. I do hope that the local LE have told the communities to be extra cautious. There *seem* to be too many "coincidences" here for my liking.

LET'S BREAK IT DOWN

Cynthia Tucker – Age 15. Missing from North Houston, Texas since April 12 2010
ABOVE - is the first disappearance. This is followed by another listed below between 3 and 4 days depending on the reporting of the disappearance and the time of day or night that it took place. There could be a few hours that make this appear as if it is a entire day. In all likelihood, it is really 3 days or maybe I should say 72 hours between first and next.

Chasity Armstrong – Age 17. Missing from Katy, Texas since April 16, 2010
After Chastity disappeared there is a gap of 8 days (roughly, again depending on the reporting of the disappearance and the time of day or night that it took place) until Jordan disappeared.

Jordan Johnson – Age 17. Missing from Spring, Texas since April 23, 2010
After Jordan disappeared there is a gap AGAIN of 3 or 4 days (appears to be 3 days, if the reporting is accurate).

Ali Lowitzer – Age 16.Missing from Spring, Texas since April 26, 2010
3 days after Jordan disappeared Ali went missing.

Alyssa Lynn Suarez – Age 15. Missing from Cypress, Texas since May 3, 2010
8 days after Ali went missing Alyssa disappeared.

Follow me here -

Cynthia Tucker (first missing) April 12 2010 - MONDAY

Chasity Armstrong (second missing) April 16, 2010 - FRIDAY

Jordan Johnson (third missing) April 23, 2010 - FRIDAY

Ali Lowitzer (fourth missing) April 26, 2010 - MONDAY

Alyssa Lynn Suarez (fifth missing) May 3, 2010 - MONDAY

+++

I wish I knew when the other attempted abduction occurred and if there were any others in the area.

In my "POSSIBLE PREDATOR MAP" above I think it's possible that *if* a serial predator is involved here (and I do) that he struck close to home on the April 12 2010 (Cynthia Tucker) and then moved to other areas. Predators usually strike close to home the first few times and then branch out as the home turf becomes too hot but the desire to abduct and kill has not receded nor been satisfied.

There were also the back to back disappearances of Jordan Johnson (on April 23, 2010) and Ali Lowitzer (April 26, 2010) in Spring Texas and it may have gotten too hot or risky to attempt another in this area. Especially after Mr. Lowitzer implied that there was an additional attempted abduction. Could be three in this area and the first was not successful but he returned at a later date to try again.

After this series of disappearances - the possible serial predator moved *near* or back to the area of the first disappearance and Alyssa Lynn Suarez vanished. There were EXACTLY three weeks between the FIRST and the LAST. (To the day).

Since May 3rd - there seems to be no more abductions. Possibly he is laying low or there are others abductions that have not been reported or filtered down to us through incident reports.

+++

Due to the lack of remains - I am thinking that this predator is burying bodies on his property and keeping a close eye on them. Usually in a serial situation dumping bodies leads to the killer. I *think* if this is all the work of a serial predator that the person is crafty enough to know some of the in's and out's how how law enforcement applies knowledge to solve these cases and has purposefully made this appear as if these *could* be runaways.

One last prefix - There is always the chance that this could be a child prostitution abduction ring. In my personal opinion none of the outcomes look very promising at this point.

A = Spring
B = Cypress
C = Katy

Not real close, about 40-50 distance between them.  Looking at it like this I'm wondering if the suspect has some kind of deliver job out of the Houston area?

This is an article from early on from the Houston Chronicle. The comment in bold gives me hope that she could be a runaway.

I also followed the path from her home to the Burger Barn on Google Earth and have to wonder why she would even walk that far.I mean most kids today are too lazy to walk that far. To me she would have asked someone for a ride to that location rather than walk. The logical route for that trip would have taken her down a major road walking on the shoulder of the road. There are no side walks along that route. It also looks like a semi rural area from her house to the Burger Barn.
I am still concerned about the TWO sex offenders that live on the next street at the same address whom according to last time they registered, they were UNEMPLOYED.

Dogs, volunteers help search for missing teen

By RENÉE C. LEE
HOUSTON CHRONICLE

May 4, 2010, 6:29PM

Sixteen-year-old Alexandria Lowitzer had big plans on her social calendar. Last weekend, she was going to a friend's Alice-in-Wonderland-themed birthday party, which she helped organize. And this week, the Spring High School student was to play in a softball tournament as her team's catcher.

That's why her parents, John and JoAnn Lowitzer, are so worried and puzzled about her April 26 disappearance.

Alexandria got off the school bus at Knotty Post and Low Ridge Road, three houses from her home, about 3 p.m., and hasn't been seen or heard from since, her mother said Tuesday as volunteers searched for the teenager.

Harris County Sheriff's officials are investigating the case as a runaway. But the Lowitzers don't believe their daughter ran away. Neither does the Laura Recovery Center for Missing Children, which began its own investigation of her whereabouts on April 28 and continues to search for her.
Mom last to talk with her

The activities Alexandria was involved in “throw up some red flags,” said Dawn Davis, a recovery center case manager. “Whether she left voluntarily or not, there's a reason she's not back and that's a real concern.”
[/u]
About 40 volunteers searched areas near the family's home on Tuesday. A team from the Greater Houston Search Dogs also has joined the ground search.

Alexandria, called “Ali” by family and friends, has not made any calls or text messages from her cell phone and she has not made any new entries on her Facebook or MySpace pages, said JoAnn Lowitzer. Her friends also said they have not had any communication with her, she said. Davis believes her cell phone battery might be dead.

“I was the last person to talk to her,” said her mother, who waited at the search command center at the Northwood Baptist Church in Spring. “She called me before getting on the bus. She said she might walk to work.”
Didn't show up at job

Alexandria works at a nearby burger joint as a cook, her mother said. The teenager also is active in school, where she is a member of the choir. She plays the flute and loves to draw. Her art teacher made arrangements for her to take an art class this summer, she said.

Alexandria is 5-foot-2 and weighs about 145 pounds. She wears braces with pink banding and was last seen wearing black-and-white checkered pants, a dark hoodie and a checkered backpack.

JoAnn Lowitzer said she sends a text to her daughter's cell phone every night just in case her cell phone comes on.

“I love her,” she said, crying. “I want her to come home.” ::MonkeyAngel::

+++

+++

Rob thanks for putting that together for us. I completely agree, something is seriously wrong with that many missing kids and an attempted abduction. I think you may be on to something with the days and times they went missing. I do not feel like Ali disappeared on her own. Maybe she did decide to walk to the Burger barn and someone picked her up with the ruse of giving her a ride. I think this whole thing smells to high heaven.

I'm wondering if we're overlooking something.  We're discussing why she didn't get a ride to work.  From what I'm reading, she didn't even make it home, before leaving to go to pick up her paycheck.  The way the article reads, the last time Ali was seen was getting off the school bus and she didn't make it home.  And it seems she was expected to come home first.  See if what I'm saying makes sense...

"School bus security camera photos show Lowitzer exiting the bus on April 26.

Her home is a two-minute walk away, but she never made it home, and just about all of her belongings remain in her bedroom.

"She left her cell phone charger, where it's always put in; she had cash in her purse on the floor, and she loves to wear makeup, but none of her makeup is gone," her mother said." (snip)

This article doesn't mention anything about Ali planning to go by her home after getting off the bus before heading to pick up her paycheck.  I'm just reading back, trying to piece things together.  The article in my previous post notes Ali was last seen getting off the bus, and didn't go home and hasn't been reported as seen again.  I'm looking at routine...
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/7011578.html
(snip)On the morning of April 26, Ali appeared to be her normal self, JoAnn said.

The boy, who was later contacted by John, said he didn't know anything about her whereabouts, she said.(snip

I am confused too Muffybee. I wish we had more details. I am going over some of the articles and see that I overlooked the part about Ali writing in a diary about running away, but they weren't sure when the entries were made. That diary is apparently the reason LE thinks she ran away. I also thought it was odd that when Ali called to say she didn't have a key to the house her Mom told her it was unlocked. I find it odd they left the house unlocked and if they did, Ali may have interrupted a burglary. I guess she doesn't bring her purse to school since she had her backpack with her. From what I understand her house is about 3 houses away from where she was dropped off by the bus. I wonder if any other kids were dropped off with her and may have seen what direction she went in.What scares me is I can not see her "running" away without any of her personal belongings. I truly hope she just ran away, but the circumstances tell me otherwise.

Church website.  Not found any meetings there yet.

Rob, I have searched for any police reports on this incident and have come up empty handed. The only mention of this incident comes from the "comments" section on articles from the Houston Chronicle. One poster states that the attempted abduction occurred a few weeks before Ali went missing. And another poster states it happened in another nearby neighborhood but several months prior. I did find several reports of recent attempted abductions in the south eastern portion of the Houston area (Shore Acres, TX and Pearland)

I have been searching for the other attempted abduction.  Here is one from April 16 that the girl recanted.  Wonder if this is the one?

Deputies: 12-year-old girl recants Spring bus stop assault story

SPRING, Texas— A 12-year-old Spring girl who told school officials that she was assaulted near a bus stop Wednesday morning is recanting her story, the Harris County Sheriff’s Department said.

The Twin Creeks Middle School student initially told investigators that she was walking near the corner of Spring Lakes Haven Circle and Wrexham Springs Court when a dark-colored vehicle with tinted windows pulled up and blocked her path. She said a heavy-set white man in his 50’s got out and attempted to sexually assault her in a driveway, but she said she managed to get away, and the man drove off.

The girl then got on a bus and told school officials her story. Investigators said the girl was taken to a hospital to get treated.

In response to the report, the school’s principal sent a letter and a recorded phone message to parents urging them to watch their children closely.

I don't know where the alleged attempted abduction took place.  I tried researching, first checking for newspapers in the Spring and surrounding areas in the previous couple of months, but couldn't find anything unfortunately.  I tried using the search feature of the newspapers using various key words and using google search, but nothing so far.  It would help if we had more information, and I think the attempted abduction mentioned in the comments could be important, if true.

No idea if Ali went to this school, but two teachers have been accused of improper relations with children .

Higgins, a science teacher, was placed on paid administrative leave in January 2009 after a third party brought the allegations to district officials.

"The Spring High School Administration and Spring ISD Police Department immediately began investigating the allegation after receiving a report from a third party," the letter reads.

Higgins was hired at the school in January 2008.

The letter also said a second teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave while a separate investigation is conducted.

This is very disturbing.  Wonder who the boy was that Ali sent the text to and if there is still a divide in the youth based on race in Spring?

These photos provided by the Harris County Sheriff's office show David Henry Tuck, 18, left, and Keith Robert Turner, 17, who are charged with aggravated sexual assault. The Harris County Sheriff's office said the two severely beat and sodomized a 16-year-old Hispanic boy who they believed had tried to kiss a 12-year-old white girl at a party in Spring, Texas, Saturday, April 25, 2006 . Alexandria Lowitzer, 16, missing from Spring since April 26;
Jordan Johnson, 17, missing from Spring since April 23;
Felechia Goodman, 16, missing from Cleveland since May 16;
and, most recently in the north Harris County/East Montgomery County area,
Kalyn Painter, 16, missing from Porter since May 25 - just names to many, but loved ones to some. And a disturbing trend to others.

A Porter mother worries that her daughter, 16-year-old Kalyn Painter, may be in danger.

Kalyn was last seen Tuesday, May 25, as she was getting into a car near her home on Tejas Lane.

“She doesn’t have her purse with her, no ID, no money,” said Kalyn’s mom, Debbie McNeese. “Nor does she have her heart medication with her.”

Muffybee - I searched also and didn't find the other attempted abduction. I did find the Shoreacres attempt, but that was way south of Pasadena.

And then there was this - but this was on two girls aged 6 and 9 if I remember correctly, so I didn't post it. It did happen on 3-21-2010 - so the date and location was interesting.

I'll add the new names that No Rose Colored Glasses added to the map in just a moment. Thanks!

But the way - we had a visitor, wonder who it was.

Here's his description.

Due to the fact that Houston Metro is so large - I'm not sure this map is any help at all. But, I'll post it anyway. I learned this technique from Dr. Maurice Godwin and another specialist working on Jack the Ripper. Triangulation is a very helpful technique, but in this case, I'm not sure how much it will help at all. I moved the HOT SPOT closer to very the majority of the abductions occurred.

Even if you believe that some of these young ladies took off on their own - what about the others? And Ali is a habitual texter - 4000 thousand a month. No texts from Ali to anyone. Young girls do not have the means / mental faculties nor resources to navigate life on their own yet. Young men too. Heck, some of us older folks still have trouble. Ask my brother - LOL.

Even if you believe that they took off - don't you think some would have found out what I just said and returned home? (just to add - I do take into account that some could have left on their, I'm not blind to that possibility own)

Personally, I hate to think bad things. I try not to allow my mind to go there, but it's rather apparent that Ali and probably many of the others are not missing voluntarily.

I think something bad happened. The missing young women are piling up, and it is making me conclude that something is very wrong here. I hope I'm wrong and this is all a series of unexplained coincidences.

Kingwood parent takes action after 7 teenage girls disappear in 2 months

KINGWOOD, Texas – The disappearances of seven teenage girls in less than two months have prompted a concerned parent to question the system that labels them "runaways."

Ira Kettles-Lemiska started a Facebook page to increase awareness about the girls, who all went missing near her Kingwood home.

Only one, Ali Lowitzer, has drawn much media attention. Lowitzer was last seen on April 26 getting off her school bus just feet from her home near Knotty Post Drive and Low Ridge Road in Spring.

Lowitzer, along with the other girls, have been labeled "runaways" by law enforcement officials, due to a lack of evidence of any foul play.

"The more involved I get, the more I’m hearing, ‘Oh no, they’re a teenager? Most likely, they’re a runaway.’ That’s just so not fair," said Kettles-Lemiska.

The Houston Police Department said it receives between 6,000 and 7,000 missing person reports a year. Most of them are runways.

HPD detectives said every call gets a missing person report opened, but to see if the teen is likely to be a runaway, they’ll check whether the teen took their cell phone or a change of clothes. Another question is whether that teen has a history of disappearance or criminal activity, and if he or she has used any social networking sites.

Law enforcement officials said having seven missing girls from the same area is not unusual. There are thousands of similar cases throughout the Houston area. The reality is, cases involving kidnapping or assault take priority and get more resources.

But that is small consolation to parents like Stacy Turner, whose 15-year-old daughter, Cynthia, disappeared from her grandmother’s northwest Houston home on April 12. She admits the teenager likely ran off, but that doesn’t make the ordeal any easier.

"Not knowing if she’s OK is the scariest part," she said. "They think that it was the child’s choice. But they’re just kids!"

Any parent who is worried about their missing child is urged to contact the Laura Recovery Center for Missing Children.

Just read this case. I don't understand why they still have this girl as a runaway. Doesn't seem to fit this case. Sadly our system puts teens at such risk for abduction by making their past prove without a shadow of a doubt that they didn't run away and are in need of help.

I can't help but think about Amber Dubois and how she laid in a shallow grave off a lonely path for over a year, and would still be there if her killer hadn't confessed and all the while the investigators did little for her. Why? They believed she had run away. Carrie and Moe sounded like the parents here, saying over and over again their daughter wouldn't just run, she's a good girl, she had plans...It is sad and wrong and it needs to change.

Phone chat predator harbors runaway teen

By STEFANIE THOMAS
Updated: 06.02.10
Debbie McNeese and her 16-year-old daughter, Kalyn Painter, spent Tuesday snuggling on the couch and licking their wounds - emotionally and physically. Kalyn was missing for six days and returned home Memorial Day, much to McNeese’s relief, but the story behind Kalyn’s nearly week-long absence is of great concern to the Porter mom.

McNeese said Kalyn admitted she spent her time away from home with a much older man she met through the Quest chat line, a telephone dating service with local phone lines in several cities and states, including the Houston area.

“This man is my age, and Kalyn said she was down in Corpus Christi with him all this time,” McNeese said, adding she is sure sexual encounters took place. “It makes me so mad - she’s only 16. What gives those men the right to come into a child’s life and disturb what their parents are trying to teach them? They’re still children.”

Although Quest’s website and chat line specify users must be 18 years of age or older, the company’s website states it “does not screen the members registering to Quest in any way.” No provision of a birth date is required, and the website states it assumes no responsibility for dates gone wrong.

McNeese said her daughter clearly stated in her Quest personal profile that she was 16.

“And that phone lit up like crazy,” she said. The phone calls to Quest chat lines are local numbers, she said, and there was no reason to be suspicious when they showed up on the phone bill. In a time when most media coverage and law enforcement education initiatives focus on Internet predators, McNeese said a potential threat by phone didn’t even occur to her.

“I’m old-fashioned - we don’t even have Internet at home,” she said. “The thought of a phone chat line didn’t even cross my mind.”

PREDATORS PREY ON THE VULNERABLE

McNeese said Kalyn only had her cell phone since March, when she turned 16, and no Internet access is available to her at home.

City of Houston Crime Victims Advocacy Director Andy Kahan said chat lines are are yet another form of communication that allows predators to hook up with victims.

“The Internet and other modern-day technological forms of communication are inevitably the new trolling ground for would-be predators,” he said. “Predators stalk areas where young teens hang out, like in the old days, when the playground and parks were the hunting ground. This playground has now evolved, thanks to modern technology.”

According to McNeese, meeting older men through chat lines like Quest has almost become a sort of sport for some young girls and she encourages other parents to be alert.

“From what I understand, my daughter isn’t the only one who does this,” she said, indicating that she was made aware of other New Caney HS girls participating in the practice. “And it’s not just at her school.”

New Caney Independent School District officials said they are not aware of older men meeting young students via Quest or other chat lines.

“We are unaware of any trend, established or growing, on our campuses where girls call and meet men on phone chat lines,” said Kelley Mattlage, spokeswoman for New Caney ISD. “If someone has knowledge of something like this, we would encourage them to share it with our campus administrators or local law enforcement so that something may be done to prevent a potentially harmful situation. We also strongly encourage parents to speak with their children about the dangers of talking by phone or online with strangers and stress the dire consequences of getting into a car with someone you don't know.”

In Kalyn’s case, McNeese said her daughter is impressionable, like most teens, and, as a girl raised by a single mother since early childhood who grew up without a father figure, craves male attention, making her vulnerable to the advances of older men.

“My daughter made a mistake, I admit that,” she said. “I have to get it through her head that she can’t run off with older men she meets on the phone, but that doesn’t mean these men can just take advantage of a child.”

McNeese also acknowledged that Kalyn had run away once before, when a man she met via a phone chat line picked her up from school and took her for a day.

This man, an Humble resident, is currently under investigation by the Humble Police Department for possible charges of sexual assault of a child. At age 16, Kalyn has not yet reached the age of sexual consent, which is 17 in Texas.

And although the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office assessment classifying Kalyn as a runaway proved to be accurate, McNeese said her child did end up in the hands of a predator and she spent several sleepless nights, worrying about Kalyn’s safety.

“Law enforcement says that if the child takes clothes, a cell phone, and posts on message boards, it’s a runaway,” McNeese said. “But in Kalyn’s case this last time, she didn’t even take her heart medication. And what gives you the right to think they’re not worth looking for when they meet someone online and leave voluntarily? That is automatically a big red flag, in my mind. If anything, that should be considered a warning.”

McNeese said an unknown person was able to somehow contact Kalyn while in the grasp of the Corpus Christi man and told her to come home.

“The man was afraid to bring her back, so a friend picked her up,” McNeese said.

Kalyn is currently recovering from a sprained ankle she suffered during her outing, cause unknown. And after she was seen at a local emergency room to be checked out upon her return, McNeese took her to a children’s facility in Conroe with the intent to get her admitted for a week or two so she could regroup and get some counseling. Kalyn wasn’t accepted due to her ankle injury.

“Kaylyn has been a good kid up until the last few months. She doesn’t steal, she doesn’t talk back. There were no fights in school. The worst thing she did was to get caught straightening her hair in the school bathroom,” McNeese said. “But sometimes you need help, no matter how good a parent you are.”

McNeese said this chapter is anything but closed for her. She plans on forming a group to bring awareness to teens that chat lines can pose a danger, that running away can result in big trouble, major heartache - maybe even death.

“I think they need to see graphic pictures, hear about people like Ted Bundy, know the kind of people who are out there, just waiting for them,” she said. “I’m not done with this. I’m just getting started.”

LOWITZER FAMILY TO HOLD PRAYER VIGIL FOR MISSING DAUGHTER
June 14, 2010

“Someone out there knows something and I just simply ask that they contact someone, anyone.” – John Lowitzer.

Ali Lowitzer disappeared on the afternoon of April 26, 2010 shortly after getting off of her school bus in Spring. No one has heard from her since. Ali’s family will join together with the Laura Recovery Center and the Mayor’s Crime Victims office for a prayer vigil on Thursday, June 17, 2010.

The prayer vigil will be held in front of Houston City Hall beginning at 7:00 pm on the 17th. The purpose of the vigil is to heighten community awareness and to build support for the efforts to find 16 year old Ali.

The vigil will feature several keynote speakers including local Pastors, Andy Kahan from the Mayor’s Crime Victim’s office, Harris County Constable for Precinct 6; Victor Trevino and a representative from the Laura Recovery Center.

To learn more about Ali see related articles below and visit the Bring Home Ali Lowitzer Facebook page.

Ali’s father, John Lowitzer added the following post on Facebook today:

"Somebody out there knows something and I just simply ask that they contact someone, anyone and give information. Don't be afraid. This is not about who did it, it's about the safety and well being of a 16 year old girl. It's about having comfort in knowing. At least let someone know if she's ok. Please allow us to begi...n the road to healing. We're anxious to hear something. Anything. If it were your family member I would think you'd want the same. Please, I beg you. If you are out there and have knowledge of her whereabouts or any information, please tell someone.” – John Lowitzer

The Laura Recovery Center exists to prevent abductions and runaways and to recover missing children by fostering a Triangle of Trust among law enforcement, community and a missing child's family.

Prayer vigil raises awareness of missing children
Updatd 6/18/10

HOUSTON - Someone, somewhere, knows something.

At a prayer vigil for missing children in front of Houston City Hall June 17, John Lowitzer, father of missing Spring girl Alexandria Lowitzer, 16, implored anyone who may have any information about what happened to his daughter, or where she may be, to step forward.

“This is my baby girl. If anybody out there knows anything, please speak up, say something,” he pleaded. “You don’t have to give your name - just tell us where Ali is.”

Alexandria disappeared after stepping off her school bus April 26, leaving behind a paycheck from her job, her purse with money inside and her constant companion, her cell phone. Authorities still have no leads regarding her whereabouts.

Andy Kahan, the mayor’s crime victims assistance director for the city of Houston, said statistics form the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children showed that 28 children went missing from Texas in 2009, and 81 over a 5-year period.

“According to the U.S. Department of Justice, 797,500 children under the age of 18 were reported missing in a one-year-period [nationwide] - that’s an average of 2,185 each day,” he added. “Yet we hold out hope. With perseverance, persistence and law enforcement assistance we can bring these [children] back home to their families.”

The Laura Recovery Center, a non-profit organization launched in Friendswood by Bob and Gaye Smither after the abduction and murder of their 12-year-old daughter Laura in 1997, has spent the weeks since Ali’s disappearance organizing volunteer search parties to comb acres of woods near the Lowitzer home and distribute fliers with Ali’s picture.

“We are here tonight in hope - hope that a young girl will return home safely; hope that she’s alive and well; hope that her family, friends and community will continue to search until she is found,” said Bob Walcutt, executive director at Laura Recovery Center. “ Hope is a fragile thing. It is built on love, time and faith, but it can be destroyed by gossip, rumors and flat-out lies. Families dealing with a missing child face many hurdles. They must first face the fact that their child is missing. They must convince the authorities of the seriousness of the situation, and finally, they must work hard, day and night, to bring their child home. And sometimes the only thing they have is hope.”

Precinct 6 Constable Victor Trevino, whose office is not investigating the Ali Lowitzer case in an official capacity but who offered his assistance and support to the family, said a review of law enforcement policies regarding missing and runaway children may be in order to ensure all children, regardless of the reason or circumstances of their disappearance, are brought home safely.

“Sometimes it’s not about pointing fingers, or being judgmental, or critical. Sometimes we just have to be part of the solution and try to help each other out. There will be time for an assessment, an analysis, an evaluation - later,” he said. “In law enforcement, we try to do the best we can but sometimes we fall short. maybe we do have to re-evaluate how we look at each child as a runaway or as being abducted. Even if it is a runaway, that child might still be endangered. Whether the child went willingly or not, that child still needs us - it’s a child. Someone may have coerced or conned that child. We need to reevaluate our priorities and do a better job.”

Kahan appealed to parents, challenging them to become more involved in their children’s lives and monitor their activities, friends and emotional states.

“Stop being their friend - be their parent,” he urged. “Be nosy. Check into what they’re doing. Let them know whose homes they can visit, let them know whose vehicles they can ride in. Tell them to stay away from pools, creeks, or any large body of water unless there’s an adult present. Parents, don’t use the mall as a babysitter. Malls are dangerous. Make sure your kids know what their curfew is and check in with you when they’re going to be late. Child safety is important year-round, but right now, during the summer months, it is especially important. Practice simple, basic parenting skills.”

Community involvement in missing person cases is critical, Trevino said. Law enforcement, with its limited resources, cannot do the job alone. He asked that area residents assist police by being “the eyes and ears” of law enforcement.

Kahan commended Kingwood resident Ira Kettles-Lemiska, who started a Facebook group page to help educate the community about the missing children issue, for taking a proactive role in promoting awareness.

“Here is someone who saw what was going on, and instead of yelling and screaming about the injustices of the world, she took action,” he said. “I loved one of her comments [on Facebook] - she said parents are in denial, and they must be educated to minimize the risk and the opportunity to become a victim. She’s a great example of someone who’s making a difference in the lives of others. What we do in life echoes in eternity. Never doubt that a small group of people can make a difference.”

With community involvement and dogged persistence, Walcutt said, missing children can be found - even years after their disappearance, when all hope seems to be lost.

“[Tuesday night] about midnight I got a call from a family that had been waiting three years to hear from a missing girl. For them, the ordeal is over. For others, it is just beginning,” he said. “Tonight I ask that you do your part to help keep hope alive. Go to the Laura Recovery Center website and e-mail all your friends a flier of a missing child. Ask them to e-mail it to all their friends. By doing this, maybe, in 24 hours, we can bring another missing child home. Do your part. Keep hope alive.”

John Lowitzer expressed his appreciation to law enforcement, the Laura Recovery Center, friends and family for their support. In a special message to his daughter - and all the other missing children whose parents so desperately are waiting for news - he choked on tears as he begged her to come home.

“We want our baby girl back. Ali, if you’re out there, baby, come home,” he said. “I love you. We all love you. You have a lot of love and support behind you. It’s time to come home. Chasity, it’s time to come home. Everybody, it’s time to come home.”

The Cost of Being Called a Runaway
June 18, 2010

John and Jo Anne Lowitzer have not seen or heard from their daughter for more than eight weeks. 16 year old Alexandria disappeared on April 26. She was last seen getting off the school bus in her Spring neighborhood.

Police say there was no specific evidence of foul play so Lowitzer's disappearance was immediately classified a runaway -a status that means no amber alert is issued, no Crimestoppers were involved, no criminal investigations unit was on the scene and therefore, less media attention was given to the case.

Bob Walcutt, of the Laura Recovery Center, says that system is wrong. He says all the stops should be pulled out from the beginning when a child disappears for the first time.

"If it has been truly an abduction and it's a stranger abduction, there's a good chance that child will be killed shortly thereafter. If its a family abduction, that may not happen but, initially, we just don't know," he says.

Missing Girl's Parents Hold Onto Hope

HOUSTON -- Three months have passed since a Spring girl disappeared, but her parents are holding onto hope that she will come home soon.

Alexandria "Ali" Lowitzer, 16, was last seen on April 26.

Pictures show Ali at school and getting off of the bus. She told her mom she was walking to work at the Burger Barn, a quarter-mile away from home.  She never got there.

"We just need somebody to come forward with some information because someone knows something," said Ali's dad, John. "We just plead with them to have a safe heart. If this was your family member, you'd want the same."

John Lowitzer said he has a message for his daughter.

"Honey, I love you.  I need you to come home.  I need you to be strong.  I want you to know that we're here for you and we support you 100 percent," he said. "We love you and we want you home."

The Harris County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate this case.  It said there are no new developments.

Ali's parents have set up a Facebook page to help find her.  It already has about 6,000 followers.

I was just wandering if anyone has looked into the possibility that these girls might be the victims of Human Trafficking.  With the time between each one that is about the time that it takes to get them out of the states.  Just thinking of everything that could be possible.

Hello angleonearth, and welcome to Scared Monkeys  ::MonkeyDance::

I believe human trafficking is a bigger problem than most people realize.  I'm not certain about Ali's case, but I think it's possible.

Benefit scheduled for missing Spring teen

Alexandria Lowitzer disappeared after getting off the bus near her home in Spring April 26.

Their nights have been sleepless, their days filled with worry, and their efforts relentless.

John and Jo Ann Lowitzer want their daughter back.

Alexandria “Ali” Lowitzer, 16, disappeared after getting off the school bus near her home in Spring April 26. Her parents haven’s seen her since.

“We get leads all the time,” said John. “They’re just all dead ends.”

Numerous sightings of Ali have been reported in the months since her disappearance, but so far the girls have all turned out to be look-alikes.

“We never thought Ali looked like anyone else, but evidently there are a lot of girls her age who have the same haircut, wear the same style makeup and clothing,” Jo Ann said. “As unique as she tried to be on a daily basis, there are a lot of girls who look like her.”

Authorities have Ali listed as a runaway due to a lack of evidence that would suggest otherwise, but the Lowitzers adamantly maintain their daughter did not run away.

“We don’t believe that for one second,” John said. “That’s been the biggest obstacle, trying to convince people that she’s not a runaway. Ali is also somewhat classified as endangered and missing, but we can’t get it past that. If we could, we’d have Amber Alerts, a lot more resources on our hands, even the Texas Rangers.”

Since April, Ali’s parents have organized numerous private search parties with the help of the Laura Recovery Center, combed woods and neighborhoods, distributed fliers and even teamed up with a private investigator. Still, no trace of Ali.

Jo Ann and John believe someone, somewhere, has information on Ali’s whereabouts. The couple currently offers a $5,000 award to anyone who can help bring Ali home. To no avail.

On Sept. 18, the family will hold a fundraiser, with proceeds going toward the continuation of search parties, the financing of fliers and other media, and to raise the award for tips leading to the recovery of Ali.

“Unfortunately, money talks,” John said. “Hopefully, someone who knows something might find it a little more enticing to come forward. Someone has to know where she is.”

ONE DAY AT A TIME

The Lowitzers say their efforts to find their daughter have not waned, but they worry that Ali’s name and photo is slowly fading from the public’s consciousness.

“For me this has gotten more difficult as time goes on. In the beginning, there were a lot of people around,” said John. “We felt all that support. But right now everything is very quiet. The wheels don’t turn as fast, and we feel things slowing a little.”

The first day back to school was especially heartbreaking for Ali’s parents, as they watched other kids get on school buses, decked out in new clothes and bearing down under new backpacks and school supplies. Then listening to friends and coworkers as they described their own children’s first day back in school.

“I kept thinking she was supposed to be on that bus,” John said. “You never think you’d miss the school shopping, the school supplies. Until your child’s missing. Ali loved to go to school.”

At home, the teen’s room remains undisturbed. The door stands slightly open, waiting for Ali to enter her sanctuary, the part of the house she was allowed to decorate to her own liking. The day she disappeared, her parents found their daughter’s phone charger in its place, her purse and money still in Ali’s room.

The Lowitzers describe their daughter as an artistic child who loves to paint, listen to music, and sing. She rarely socialized outside her home and liked to invite friends to visit at her house instead.

“She was goofy; just a kid,” said John. “She liked to make us laugh. She had her teenage moments, but she didn’t have a bad home life.”

TAKING INITIATIVE

The Lowitzers say to their knowledge, one Harris County Sheriff’s Office homicide detective is currently assigned to Ali’s case.

“We’re as close with the police as they allow us to be,” said John. “Sometimes they call us, but I wish they would keep in closer contact with us. And law enforcement needs to talk to each other. I don’t know if the sheriff’s office is talking to Precinct 4, HPD. I think they need to collaborate more.”

John said the recent publicized arrest of a man who attempted to abduct a child in New Caney prompted him to scour the woods near the suspect’s home on his own, accompanied by a private investigator who took on Ali’s case on a pro bono basis.

“Has that guy done it before? In what area?,” John wanted to know. “We went to the area where he lives and went into the woods to see if we can find anything about Ali. We hear about things like that and we do it ourselves, ask questions. We can’t wait for law enforcement.”

With nothing new to report in connection with Ali’s disappearance, no new leads to go on, local media coverage has dissipated, John said, making it even more difficult to keep the effort to find Ali in the public eye.

“That’s another reason for the benefit on Sept. 18 - we’re hoping it will be large enough to rekindle the effort and let people know shes’ still missing and there’s still a huge effort out there to find her,” he said.

Meanwhile, the rumor mill is brewing. On a regular basis, the Lowitzers are confronted with public misconceptions that Ali has been found - dead or alive.

“Right before school let out we were dealing with rumors that her body has been found in a ditch,” Jo Ann said. “Now that school is back in session, the buzz is that Ali is back home. It’s frustrating.”

In August, the Lowitzers sent Ali’s picture out in Valpak, hoping to reach residents in different areas of Harris County. They listed their daughter with every missing persons website imaginable, and received reports that some fliers of Ali have made it as far as California and Florida.

“Until she comes home, we need that exposure,” said John. “We are going to search east coast to west coast. We’re not leaving anything to chance. You never know - she could be in another state. Until we know something, I feel that’s what we have to do.”

The endless wait is excruciating. With every day that goes by, the Lowitzers renew their resolve to find their daughter.

Whether Ali is a runaway or met with a worse fate, John says the fears and worries are the same.

“My whole world would change with a simple phone call,” he said. “At least I would know she’s still alive. Not knowing if their child is OK is the worst feeling a parent can have. Ali, we love you. Very much.”

Parents of Missing Teen Hold Fundraiser
September 15, 2010

SPRING, Texas - The parents of a missing Spring teenager are holding a fundraiser this weekend to help them bring attention to the case.

Alexandria Lowitzer, 16, vanished last April after getting off a school bus.

The Spring High School student was walking to her job at a restaurant when she disappeared, her father, John Lowitzer, says.

The Harris County Sheriff's Department considers the teen a probable runaway because there's no evidence of foul play.

But her father insists Alexandria did not runaway.

"She had a good home life," John Lowitzer says.

The Sheriff's Department has assigned only one investigator to the case because there is no evidence to pursue.

"It' frustrating," Lowitzer says.

The fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, September 18th, at the Spring Tavern, 24401 Aldine Westfield Road in Spring.

In case anyone comes across the report of these remains.....they have been ruled out as being Ms. Lowitzer.

The first report said age between 8/15, then later it went to 12/16 and this report says.... 15/22.

Bones still unidentified
By Taylor Aswell | The Natchez Democrat

Harrisonburg — The identity of human remains found in the woods north of Harrisonburg is still unknown.

Though reports that the bones may have been those of a missing Texas teen surfaced Tuesday, Sheriff James Kelly told the Catahoula News Booster that dental records did not match.

Investigators hope a cause of death will be determined in the next few days.

According to Kelly, the Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call from a hunter Friday evening, claiming he had found what appeared to be a human skull.

Catahoula Parish deputies arrived at the scene and confirmed that the remains found were human.

Forensic pathologists from Louisiana State University and Dr. Mary Manhein, forensic anthropologist, were also called to the scene.

Investigators believe the remains to be that of a teenage girl between the ages of 15-22.

The remains indicated that the victim had braces on her teeth, long dark hair and was small framed.

Evidence also suggested the body had been at the location for several weeks.

Anyone having any information that may be connected to the case please call the CPSO at 318-744-5411.

*Hi Nutt,
Do you think we should open a thread regarding Lexis Roberts? I know Mom is still missing and there has been a flurry of activity on my local news regarding the perp. Apparently, he was declared "dead" by family in Mississippi a few years back and it seems authorities believe he is still in Louisiana where Lexis was found.

Not Nutt, (but at times known to be Nutt-y), I think a thread for this would be good.  Do you know how to start one cartfly?  If not, one of us will help with that.

Missing for the Holidays
Maybe you can help a family find their loved one
December 21, 2010

HOUSTON —
This is always one of the toughest times of the year for families with missing children.
Gay Smither, co-founder of the Laura Recovery Center, said she still struggles through the holidays. Her daughter, Laura, went missing in 1997. Her remains were discovered 17 days after she disappeared; Laura was just 12 years old.

"When your child is not home because they're still missing or because they've been murdered, there's that empty seat at the table and you're always aware of that," Smither said.

The parents of 16-year-old Alexandria "Ali" Lowitzer are getting ready to celebrate Christmas without their daughter this year, too. Ali was last seen getting off the bus near her home in Spring last April. Her father said there is still no break in the case.

The Lowitzers and Smithers urge anyone with information about any past or present case to come forward. There is a $10,000 reward for information leading to answers in Ali's case.

More information is available at the Laura Recovery Center's website. Staff encourages people to look at the pictures of missing children and forward them on to friends. Families agree the best hope of finding their loved ones is through the public.

Ali Lowitzer, missing since April 2010

On tonight's episode of Nancy Grace: America's Missing - a show that aims at finding 50 people in 50 days - on HLN, Grace will be conducting an in-depth expose of 16-year-old Ali Lowitzer from Spring, TX, who disappeared in April 2010 as a possible runaway.

16-year-old Alexandria Lowitzer, known as Ali, was last seen on surveillance video getting off her bus just 3 houses down from her home.

Before she got on the bus she spoke to her mother about her plans to pick up her pay check from the burger barn just a half mile walk away from the bus stop. Other employees at the burger barn say Ali never made it there. Although Ali has been missing for almost a year, police still have her classified as a runaway. There is no sign of foul play but her family feels in their gut that something terrible has happened to their daughter.

Missing Spring girl’s family holds onto hope, one year later
April 26, 2011

HOUSTON -- As a Spring couple approaches the one-year anniversary of their daughter’s disappearance they are holding on to hope that they will find the 17-year-old girl.
 ::snipping2::
The teenager disappeared on April 26, 2010. She was last seen getting off her school bus 30 feet from her house near Low Ridge and Knotty Post in Spring.

Her parents said she was supposed to head to work at the Burger Barn less than a quarter mile away to pick up her pay check, but she never made it.

They said all communication stopped around 3 p.m. that day.
 ::snipping2::
ccording to a spokesperson for the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation into her disappearance is an open and active investigation.  Homicide detectives are on it, but the teen is officially considered a runaway.

It’s a classification her parents have refuted since her disappearance.

Ali’s parents have their theories and Sunday evening told KHOU 11 News that they believe she may have known the person who’s behind her disappearance.

“There are still some things out there that we have suspicions on, ideas, but we can’t prove anything,” said the teen’s father. “I’d rather keep that on the down low because it involves individuals and stuff.”

The Lowitzers have taken it upon themselves to keep their daughter’s face in the public eye. They give flyers to anyone who will take them or post them.  They’ve printed T-shirts and have set up a Facebook page and the website www.alexandrialowitzer.com, which is dedicated to their daughter.
Tuesday, on the one-year anniversary of the teen’s disappearance, the Spring Area Youth Softball league will dedicate a picnic table and a tree to Ali at Beyer Park in Spring. That’s the ball park where Ali played softball. The dedication ceremony begins at 7:30 p.m.

Where is Ali? Spring family marks a grim anniversary
By RENÉE C. LEE
HOUSTON CHRONICLE

JoAnn Lowitzer walks by her teen daughter's bedroom every night to say good night. She never opens the door, though. It's too painful to see her empty bed.

"It still feels like a dream," said Lowitzer, who cries herself to sleep each night, longing for her daughter's return.

One year ago Tuesday, 16-year-old Alexandria Lowitzer went missing. She was last seen getting off a school bus about 3 p.m. near her Spring home on Low Ridge.

Her parents have no clues of her whereabouts or what might have happened to her. The Harris County Sheriff's Office is investigating her disappearance as a runaway/missing person case, and homicide detectives are helping with the case.

Lowitzer and her husband, John, remain hopeful as they plan for a tree planting and softball tournament Tuesday at Bayer Park in honor of Alexandria, also known as Ali. She used to play at the park as part of the Spring Area Youth Softball organization.

The Lowitzers, who separated several years ago, lean on each other for support. They celebrated Ali's 17th birthday on Feb. 3 by going to her favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner. They don't want any milestones of Ali's life to be forgotten.

Interesting from the find Ali facebook page. I haven't looked into the manager yet.

John Lowitzer posted: (Ali's Dad)

From mine and JoAnn's perspective it sure is strange that 3 months after Ali's disappearance the Burger Barn where she worked closes and the owner is no where to be found. I believe law enforcement ought to take a harder look at that. That's putting it politely.....

Just an interesting little tidbit. When either the owners or the ones who managed it the last time I went in (I think before the last ones) were there at Burger Barn, I went in one day to buy some gyros for my husband because he loves them. It was immediately right after 9-11 happened in New York. I walked in and no one was there, not even a customer. I waited and waited and finally one of the managers/owners stuck his head around a door. He could see the puzzled look on my face and this is what he told me as to why they were more or less "hiding" in the back. He said that since they were foreigners (he told me where they were from but I forgot) that they didn't want people coming after them due to their race after the terrorist attack in New York so that for awhile, they were being very cautious before they came out of the back. This always stuck in my mind. That was almost 10 years ago though. I guess what just happened with Bin Laden brought this back to my memory today. I never knew if this bunch owned or just managed Burger Barn but this particular bunch was there for years and years. I have lived in Lexington Woods for 34 years so I used to go there often.

Missing teen's family organizing new search
Monday, July 11, 2011

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The family of a missing teenager is renewing the call to help find her, more than a year after her disappearance.

Ali Lowitzer, 16, was last seen getting off her school bus in north Harris County in April of last year. Her parents and the Laura Recovery Center are organizing a new search to find her this Saturday. They're asking for help from volunteers age 18 and older and anyone who can bring four-wheelers or horses.

Volunteers will meet at North Woods Baptist Church in Spring at 7am Saturday.

Despite the time that has passed, Bob Walcutt, executive director of the Laura Recovery Center, said the chances of finding Lowitzer after the time that has elapsed is “as good as the day we started.”

Walcutt was joined with several members and five dogs from the Greater Houston Search Dogs organization as they walked a ravine to find clues or a trace of Ali’s scent. The ravine is about a mile from where Ali is known to have disappeared, Walcutt said, and was discovered as a possible search area after a search group found it last week and determined dogs would be needed to search thoroughly.

“Dogs are just another tool,” Walcutt said. “They do the best they can and they’re usually pretty good. If there’s anything, they’ll find it, hopefully.”

Susan Martinez, with the GHSD, said the ravine goes on for miles and there is no certainty anything could be found there in time, as nothing was found there Saturday morning from a few hours of searching.

“This is just a shot in the dark other than it’s a good place to search,” Martinez said about the ravine’s proximity to the last known location of Lowitzer.

Martinez said the best thing is for the public to remember back to April 2010 when Ail disappeared and think if anyone they saw or knew returned home dirty or seeming nervous in the event someone harmed her.

Texas mother hopes Lavergne's arrest leads to information in her daughter's case
August 15, 2012

A mother whose daughter has been missing from Harris County, TX, for more than two years, hopes Brandon Scott Lavergne's arrest will lead to more information about her daughter's case.
Her daughtet, Alexandria "Ali" Lowitzer, was last seen April 26, 2010. At the time she was 16. Her mother, Jo Ann, spoke to Ali right before she got on the school bus. She told her mother she was just going to pick up a paycheck from work before walking home from the bus. Her work was only a few minutes from her house, but she never arrived.
Video surveillance shows her exiting the bus at around 2:45 that afternoon. But what happened after that remains a mystery for Ali's family. She's not sure Lavergne is involved, but she feels there are several similarities between her daughter's case and Mickey Shunick's. That includes the first tips they received in their daughter's case. The family was told a girl matching Ali's description was seen talking to a man in a white truck around the time Ali went missing.
As you recall Lavergne's sister lives in Montgomery County,TX, just north of Harris County. This is the same county Lavergne reported his truck stolen. Around the time Ali went missing, Lavergne was already out of jail.

P.I. in Lowitzer case says it's "just too coincidential"
August 16, 2012

As the Shunick, and Pate cases, get underway in Lafayette, Agencies in Texas and Louisiana are looking into the possibility Lavergne's arrest could lead to answers in other cases. The private investigator in the case of missing Texas teen, believes just that.
 ::snipping2::
Ali has been missing for nearly two years, and although there is no concrete evidence linking Brandon Scott Lavergne to her daughter's disappearance, Jo Ann Lowitzer remains hopeful.
 ::snipping2::
Since Lavergne's arrest., she has been contacted by law enforcement, requesting she not do any more interviews because of new developments in her daughter's case.
We also spoke to the Lowitzer family's private investigator, who believes there are striking similarities between the Mickey Shunick case, and Ali's. Specficially, two tips involving a white truck the day Ali went missing
"He pulled up behind her as she walked on the side of the road, pulled up close, talking to her, trying to coax her into the truck," said PI Mac Sanford.
Sanford says one of the callers thought the incident was so strange, they turned around. But by time they arrived, there was no sign of her, or the truck. He says the other caller remembered a partial plate, one that started with an "x" and several zero's.
"I got a list of every vehicle that he owned. And it turned out that at the time of Alis disappearance, he owned a white, 2005 GMC, extended cab truck, with Louisiana plates that had an "X" and several 0's in it," said Sanford. "So at that point, I thought good Lord this is just too coincidental."
Now, he's looking into whether Lavergne was in the area at the time. You'll recall Lavergne's sister lives 18 miles away in Conroe, TX.
"All the timelines seem to fit, you know, it's widely known that Lavergne spent plenty of time in Texas, going back and forth, and now we're trying to determine the link," said Sanford.

Lavergne eyed in Texas case
August 17, 2012

A private investigator in Houston said he believes he has found a link between the April 2010 disappearance of a 16-year-old Spring, Texas, girl and Brandon Scott Lavergne, the man charged in two killings in the Acadiana area.

Mac Sanford said he began to see a possible connection between Lavergne and the April 26, 2010, disappearance of Alexandria “Ali” Lowitzer while reading about the May 19 disappearance of Michaela “Mickey” Shunick in Lafayette.

Lavergne has pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder in the kidnapping and killing of Shunick and in the July 1999 death of Lisa Pate. He is scheduled to appear in court Friday for a hearing in the case.

Sanford said it was Lavergne’s white truck that first caught his eye.

Lavergne’s 2011 white Chevrolet Silverado was reported stolen in Montgomery County, Texas, on May 31. The truck was found burned in a nearby Texas county that same day, authorities have said.

Sanford would later discover that Lavergne’s sister also lives in Montgomery County.

Montgomery County neighbors Harris County, where Lowitzer lived, and is “right on the edge of where Ali went missing,” Sanford said in a phone interview Thursday.

Brandon Scott Lavergne, Murder Suspect, Could Also Be Tied To Ali Lowitzer's Disappearance
August 17, 2012

man indicted for killing two women should be questioned about the 2010 disappearance of a 15-year-old Texas girl, according to a private investigator trying to solve the case.

Alexandria "Alli" Lowitzer vanished outside a hamburger restaurant in spring where she was waiting to pick up her first paycheck, the Advertiser reports, and Mac Sanford says there's evidence that kidnapping and homicide suspect Brandon Scott Lavergne was nearby.

Witnesses claim they saw Lowitzer talking to a man driving a white, extended cab pickup, KLFY said. A witness gave police a partial read of the man's license plate, which matches the tags of white GMC truck owned by Lavergne.

The new accusation emerged as Lavergne, 33, was due in a Louisiana court today for an evidentiary hearing on his upcoming murder trial.

Vehicle may link Brandon Lavergne to missing Texas girl
August 17, 2012

LAFAYETTE -- A Texas private investigator says witness accounts and vehicle records make him suspect Brandon Scott Lavergne is involved in the April 2010 disappearance of a 15-year-old Texas girl.

Lavergne is expected to appear in court at 10 a.m. today in Lafayette. He has been indicted on two first-degree murder charges here, one in the case of Mickey Shunick, 21, and the second in the 1999 death of Lisa Ann Pate. He is currently being held without bond.

 ::snipping2::
Sanford said a tip line established shortly after Lowitzer's disappearance yielded calls from two unrelated witnesses who said they saw a girl they believed to be Lowitzer talking to a man in a white, extended-cab pickup. The man appeared to be trying to coax the girl into the vehicle. One of those witnesses was able to get a partial license plate number.

"I've been following the (Mickey) Shunick case since the beginning, and when I saw that Brandon Lavergne was arrested and he reported his vehicle stolen in Montgomery County, that's just a few miles from where Ali went missing," Sanford said.

Stutes said there are no other pending charges against Lavergne in Lafayette, but the prosecutor declined to speculate on whether Lavergne has been implicated in any crimes in other jurisdictions.

Mac Sanford, a private investigator in Houston, has said he believes Lavergne could be behind the April 2010 disappearance of 16-year-old Alexandria “Ali” Lowitzer of Spring, Texas. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the lead investigative agency in that case, has not commented on whether they consider Lavergne a suspect in that case.

Louisiana killer's plea deal doesn't preclude prosecution in other cases
August 18, 2012

LAFAYETTE -- A Louisiana sex offender's guilty plea in the murders of two Lafayette Parish women does not exclude him from prosecution in other cases that may come forward.

Brandon S. Lavergne, 33, of Swords in St. Landry Parish, pleaded guilty to the murders of Lisa Ann Pate, who was 34 when she disappeared in 1999, and Michaela "Mickey" Shunick, who was 21 when she disappeared May 19.

Officials in several surrounding jurisdictions said earlier this summer that they were taking a closer look at unsolved cases.

In addition, a private investigator in Texas believes Lavergne may be tied to the April 2010 disappearance of 15-year-old Ali Lowitzer, based on similarities between the truck Lavergne was driving at the time and the one seen near Lowitzer just before she disappeared.

 ::snipping2::
According to Texas criminal statute, that state reserves the right to extradite an individual to face prosecution and generally cannot receive immunity from other criminal prosecutions while in Texas.

You're welcome Nuuuuuttttttt!!   ::MonkeyKiss

I'm hoping Ali's case can be solved and she can be brought home.  Although it hasn't been established Brandon Lavergne had anything to do with her case I've come to wonder just how many times a killer like him repeats crimes through traveling to different areas.  He's responsible for Mickey Shunick's death and Lisa Pate's, and now possibly Ali's.  Are  there other victims?  It reminds me of Israel Keyes and the cases of Samantha Koenig, which he's been charged with, and with the cases of Bill and Lorraine Currier.  Although he's not been charged in the Currier's murders yet, his possible involvement is being looked at closely and charges may be coming.  Brandon Lavergne and Israel Keyes as serial killers?  If so, how many victims?   ::MonkeyNoNo::

I haven't seen anything yet concerning suspicion that Israel Keyes was involved in Ali's disappearance.  I've read he was responsible for Samantha Koenig's death and admitted to Bill and Lorraine Currier's deaths, plus there were some articles concerning 11 year old Celina Cass as being one of his victims.  Since police believe he is responsible for at least 7 murders or more in multiple states, it may be quite some time, if ever, we'll know how many victims there were of Israel Keyes .

Ohio story brings hope for family of missing Spring teen
May 7, 2013

SPRING, Texas—The images from Ohio brought both hope and heartache for the Lowitzer family in Spring.
If anyone knows what the families of three women in Cleveland, Ohio are feeling it is John and Jo Ann Lowitzer. Their daughter, Ali, vanished in 2010 at the age of 16.
 ::snipping3::
"Three girls that have been missing 10 years or more is absolutely amazing. I kinda just don’t know what to say. There is hope that we will find Ali and bring her home," Jo Ann Lowitzer said.
The last three years have been torture for the Lowitzers. So much so that they actually hope that the doubters are right and their daughter did run away.
"You want to believe that she is in Alaska or California or Florida or Downtown Houston," Lowitzer said.
 ::snipping3::
Ali was last seen walking from the school bus to work in the Cypresswood and Treaschwig area on April 26, 2010.
The restaurant where she worked has gone under twice since then.
Her father says she is gone but far from forgotten.
"It is hard to imagine three weeks let alone three years," John Lowitzer said. "It renews hope for us that that could be our story one day. Hopefully one day soon."

http://www.katc.com/news/lavergne-files-federal-suits-against-dozens-following-conviction/
Lavergne files federal suits against dozens following conviction
July 10, 2013

Convicted killer Brandon Scott Lavergne is staying busy at Angola, suing media outlets, law enforcement, and people who spoke to officials following his 2012 arrest for the murders of Mickey Shunick and Lisa Pate. Lavergne alleges slander, libel, false reporting, and theft of his property in nearly two dozen lawsuits filed over two weeks.

However, unless Lavergne pays up, none of these cases will see a courtroom. Lavergne says he cannot afford counsel and his cognitive ability is being affected by his sleep apnea, but, in court filings, a federal judge says he still needs to pay $400 per case or file a hardship waiver to have the cases heard.

In total, Lavergne filed 22 civil claims in federal court from June 21 to July 3. He claims the case has federal jurisdiction because it was seen nationwide and crossed state lines. This week, Lavergne filed a request to combine seventeen of the suits into one called "Brandon Scott Lavergne vs Mike Harson." He says, "all the following parties work together in a conspiracy to violate my civil and constitution rights." Lavergne asked that the other five suits be heard separately, including the claims against his bank, Dateline NBC, a private investigator, The Daily Advertiser and Busted in Acadiana.

Lavergne pleaded guilty to the Pate and Shunick murders in August 2012, and is serving life in Angola.

Here is a synopsis of each filing:  (There is long list with various cases etc.  I've snipped the ones relevant for this thread)

 ::snipping3::

5) Filed on 6/24/2013: Lavergne is seeking punitive damages against a private investigator for alleged libel and slander. He says the investigator told others that he believed Lavergne was responsible for Ali Lowitzer's disappearance from Spring, Texas. Lavergne says he never owned a white 2010 full size truck that was the alleged evidence that connected him to the crime; he said he had a green truck in 2010. Because of these reports, Lavergne said he was convinced he couldn't get a fair trial and he had no choice but to plead guilty. (6:13-cv-02123)

Tips about missing Spring girl lead police to Ohio brothel
Posted January 29, 2014, Updated January 30, 2014

SPRING, Texas -- While police raided an alleged prostitution house in Columbus, Ohio, a mother in Spring waits.
"It's sickening," admitted Jo Ann Lowitzer. "It's a sick, nervous feeling."
Columbus officers and a private investigator descended on the house in the Franklinton area, looking for Lowitzer's daughter, Ali.
"There's a part of you that hopes it's not your daughter that's being put in that situation that's held against her will and drugged and prostituted," she said.
Ali Lowitzer hasn't been seen since getting off her school bus in April 2010.
That is until a private investigator working for the Lowitzer's got a tip that led to Ohio.
The private investigator told them that not only did people at the house recognize Ali from pictures, but the investigator herself even caught a glimpse of the now 19-year-old.
"There's a lot of different emotions that go along with not just a possible sighting for Ali but our PI saying she saw Ali," said Lowitzer.
In the Tuesday night raid, police only found a couple of people inside and Ali wasn't one of them.
 ::snipping3::
Lowitzer is still hopeful that the tip will eventually pan out and her daughter finally comes home.
Ali's 20th birthday is on Monday, Feb. 3.

Today is Ali's 20th Birthday.... She has been missing sine 2010, at the age of 16. 16-year-old Alexandria Lowitzer, known as Ali, was last seen on surveillance video getting off her bus just 3 houses down from her home. Private investigator searches for missing Spring girl four years after she disappeared
April 26, 2014

SPRING, Texas -- Family and friends of missing teen Ali Lowitzer will remember the girl four years after she disappeared.
"I'll never forget about her but I also don't want anyone else to forget about her because it's been four years," said Ali's mom Jo Ann Lowitzer.
Lowitzer has been given new hope recently by a private investigator named Amber Cammack.
She's the PI who has come closer than anyone else to cracking the case of the girl who would now be 20.
She believes Ali might have been trafficked to Columbus, Ohio and was being kept at a brothel.
"We know this girl exists that resembles Ali," said Cammack. "We know that she is being prostituted out but we cannot say that it is our Ali until we get our hands on her."
When police raided the house in January, they didn't find Ali.
Back home in Spring, Jo Ann Lowitzer is printing flyers and bookmarks and preparing to remember her daughter four years after she disappeared.

On Saturday, April 26, Lowitzer and Cammack will be at the strip mall where Ali used to work at 22760 Cypresswood Drive in Spring handing out flyers with Ali's information printed on them and child ID kits.

geezze, Braces on Upper & Lower Teeth, at 20 they should be coming off,
and while missing 4yr, they needed adjustments, most folks have to pay
cash for dental work, its not like everyone can remove the braces
how hard can that be, send flyers to every dentists newsletter and journal publication,
and Ali prob had hard brace not veneers, if you google img her name, she
dosent smile, so prob hard braces like these

Hope for Ali; Alexandria Joy Lowitzer
April 25

Ali continues to amaze me. I wish I could see what she would be creating now. This is her grandmas garage she spray painted. Miss her creativeness. Miss her bunches. #HopeForAli

Jackie McPhee Root I am so proud of Ali's artwork on my garage. It was amazing to watch her in action. I gave her a 10"x10" picture and asked her to paint me a mural. She had never used spray paint as a medium before but jumped right in and in two days this was the result!! It can be seen from the roadway and people still stop by to look at it. I love this so much it will never be removed!!!

SPRING, TX - Texas Center for the Missing is a partner of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children’s. Each year, partner agencies hold events on and around National Missing Children's Day (May 25th) to raise awareness around the threat of child abduction, inform families about ways to keep their children safe, and support victims' families. This year, TCM continues to bring awareness to Ali Lowitzer, a local teen girl from Spring,Texas, who exited her school bus on April 26, 2010, and turned to walk towards work.  She was never seen again. Someone took her. We don't know who or why. With the public’s help sharing her pictures, we know we will find the right person that knows where she is. Join us as we continue to bring awareness to this nationwide observance in the United States.  Clear Channel Outdoor is providing the billboards at no charge to this effort.

On Friday, Texas Center for the Missing in partnership with Clear Channel Outdoor  launched its countdown to National Children’s Missing Day on May 25, 2014.  The digital Billboard Panel No. 1024 facing south on Eastex Freeway (Hwy. 59) in Humble just south of FM 1960 on the west side of the street features one of many missing kids who have gone missing from all over the world.  For the complete story on Ali’s disappearance, visit her Facebook page at Hope for Ali; Alexandria Joy Lowitzer or visit her website at www.alexandrialowitzer.com.

JoAnn Lowitzer, Mom of Ali Lowitzer, and Beth Alberts, CEO, Texas Center for the Missing, were present at the site for the launch as well as Lee Vela, Public Affairs for Clear Channel.

Date:

June 7th Noon at Moosenuckles- 4307 Treaschwig, Spring Tx. 77373

April 26, 2010 changed my life forever. My daughter Alexandria “Ali” Lowitzer got off the school bus and was never seen again. No one has seen or heard from her. Someone took her. Who or why? We don’t know. Despite the runaway status that law enforcement gave her at the beginning, we fought 24/7 to get them to help us find her. Now they know she is no runaway and are actively working the case, but me and John have continued our own investigation and with our PI and run down every lead we get. To do this it takes money. Money we don’t have. But from having an annual fund raiser we are able to bring awareness that Ali is still missing. And with the donations I am able to continue to buy ink and paper to print her missing flier, make buttons with her face, have T shirts made and even able to rent digging equipment for searches when needed.  Every year I tell myself this will be the last fund raiser, this will be the year we find her. But here I am again andI will never stop searching until she is found.

Please come out and help us raise funds to keep Ali’s reward fund going and to bring awareness that she IS still missing.

We will have BBQ sandwiches and chips for $5

50/50 raffle tickets for $1

DJ at 3 p.m.

Live auction at 4 p.m. (lots of metal beer signs, baskets and more)

Spinning Still Band will play live at 8 pm.

Ali was 16 when someone took her. That someone is still out there. Please share Ali’s story and help this from happening to the next girl. www.alexandrialowitzer.com

I hope this woman is still alive.

I cannot figure why they announced they were looking for her in a brothel in Ohio.  Why not wait until the next time they saw her and then have law enforcement detain her until they found out what was going on?  Didn't they think, if this was her, she would be removed as soon as someone saw they were looking in that specific place?
