There are not words to tell how disappointed I am with Widget after reading that inflammatory post. Very little has offended me in here, but I take an attack on MY President and MY beliefs personally, folks. I counted Widget as a friend to this case before reading that. Now I wish I had an ignore button.

I am running out of gas FAST tonight so that's all I got for this evening, but I am looking forward to seeing y'all tomorrow!

SB,
I share your sentiments on this and just will not be a party to such shallow, hit-and-run attacks on my country and my President.  Ignorance is no excuse for this and discussing a sitting president or even candidate and method of death as Widget just did is just about sure to get a Secret Service visit.  At least, I sure hope so!

But this kind of thing is just about every day on one thread or another lately in some fashion or other.  The more of that I encounter, the less time I will waste wading through it.  Just my thoughts and reaction.

Yep, if the conservatives are going to say anything back, gotta move them all!  I do wish those who engage in the more subtle forms of practicing their politics would be censored and treated just the same.

Posting anti-war videos and commenting on them  are just as political as anything else. In fact without presenting both sides, it is very biased and propaganda.
Yes, war is awful and no one is Pro-War, but I do wonder what the faces of all the babies Saddam loaded those buses with that he drove out in the desert and buried, whole families alive in bus after bus, etc. 100,000 Kurds documented and admitted to by his henchmen.    I wonder what those babies' faces looked like as well and the single one in the video that was allowed to remain posted and not moved to here.

So is the definition of "political" anything conservative now? Sure seems that way some days.  And it doesn't have to be a threat to hang Bush to still be political and biased,  The more subtle digs are not lost on us either and they are very glaring to those who do not share in the sentiments.  But would it not be only fair that those posts also be deleted or moved as well?

I just ask that all be treated the same, no more no less for some than others.

The decision about linking the cases is virtually meaningless.

The website giving the scenario about how Natalee died has some very good points and info, in spite of the anti-Semitic slant. Bear in mind that not all Jews are rich, and not all rich people are Jews. They aren't the "elitists" ones that I am concerned with. It's NOT a Jewish thing.

I wish so badly that those doctors had been able to save that horse's life. It was a very long shot from the beginning, and they almost succeeded. It's a shame that so little is understood about such injuries. I'm not a horse racing fan but I wanted the horse to MAKE IT. What a gallant fighting try.

Widget, I don't know you and I defy anyone on this board to identify a single incident of me purposefully offending anyone.

You have, and are, offending me, and more importantly, values, ethics, and principles, that I hold dear.

Your party affiliation is a non-issue as far as I'm concerned. Whether you think Hillary Clinton is the best suited candidate for the upcoming Presidential election is something that I wish everyone had an informed opinion on. We should all vote our conscience, whoever "our" candidate is.

The issue of Iraq crosses over politics in my opinion. There are varying views on what our course of action, at this point,  should be. I feel strongly that this war will be fought on some battlefront, for the reasons that exist, whether they were defined as such by President Bush from the outset or not. We may not bring it, but the expressly stated objective of extreme Islam is that there be no other peoples on this planet that are not of the same faith. That eliminates most of America, Israel, and great sections of Europe.

If that were just "Philosophical wishful thinking", then they are entitled to their own beliefs. It's not. It's an active objective backed by tremendous wealth, intent, and planning. It's a focused threat with teeth, that has multiple tentacles throughout the Middle East, in America, and elsewhere.
Choosing where the main front of that war takes place is our choice. Whether to defend against it, is not an option unless we are willing to commit ourselves and our children to succumb to a terroristic world of their design

You seem to believe that a prudent course is to follow Hillary's declaration that to "pass the Iraq war on to the next President would be a travesty, and that all troops should be home by then." If that's the case, I certainly share the hope that our boys are home by then as well. I'm terribly frightened of the additional danger we place our troops in by anyone broadcasting deadlines for troop withdrawal.

Years ago, a similar young man to our troops now in Iraq, was captured in a war. He was imprisoned half way across the world from his home, and tortured. There was disagreement in this country as to the merits of that war, but like our boys in Iraq, he was there fulfilling his duty as directed by this country. His name is John McCain, the same man that you have stated should be sent back to the "Hanoi Hilton". How dare you.

That statement is impossible to make without revealing your crassness and disregard for the sons, daughters, wives, husbands, and children of those who are, right now, laying down their lives and liberty because our country has sent them to fight. Are they risking and enduring an inhumane sentence you would dismiss them to return to when their political belief disagrees with yours? Is that the pound of flesh you require for political disagreement with your omnipotence?

Disagree with the thinking and strategies that sent them there, and there's a healthy debate and I, for one, will respect your view.
Suggesting that our President is guilty of the rape of children, systematic genocide of hundreds of thousands of his own citizens at the hands of their own country's troops, terror tactics for the sole purpose of illiciting fear among any who might dare express an opposing opinion from his own, filmimg and directing the distribution of the "state" tortures to the masses to ensure that the message is clear, and relishing the thought of seeing him"strung up" like Saddam for those crimes, is more evidence of the content of your heart and your head.

I hear an echo.

Great Post CBB!

Widget,
You are totally out of line and should not even be allowed to post some of those things.  There are laws in place against threatening a sitting president or any presidential candidates and for very good reasons.

For your ignorant information, I don't yet have any grandchildren but my first born is in the employ of our government in the intelligence community and until his recent marriage I was the beneficiary on an insurance policy he is required to keep for the return of his remains.  He even has to pay for that thanks to the Democrats gutting our military and tying the hands of our intelligence in the past.  If also speaks to the nature of his job.  He has my full blessings and support.  Sleep well at night for people like him make it possible for you to do so and more so for those in this country.

I have being deployed in the next thirty days two Marines, one whom I might consider my Significant Other if I were a bit more involved with him and tended to pop cultural labels.  He is an older officer and is being sent for a second deployment because the Marines have lost so many of their officers so far and are a relatively small branch of the military.

The other is a close relative and is quite young but at least he does not have a family to worry about while he is serving.  My kid with only one year to go in med school says he may also do a tour with the Navy aboard surgical ship just as a service to his country before going into private practice.

If I did have grandchildren and my country was at war as it is now, they would NEVER have to be drafted as we are not that kind of people and for that I thank God Almighty!  So you are talking to the wrong person.

Saddam Hussein violated many of the terms of the cease fire from before and so this war is totally legitimate and the POTUS have every right to make these decisions.  Widget does not as Widget was not elected president and seems to be totally ignorant of the facts involved.

I have news for you.  The majority of people in this country elected Bush for a second term despite many voting irregularities which oddly enough have all turned out to be cheating by the DNC.  What a surprise!  Shades of when they defeated Nixon by entire precincts voting in alphabetical order in Chicago if anyone believes that crap.  But the slogan If It's Not Close, They Can't Cheat! did apply but he won by a comfortable margin.

So out of respect for the opinions of others and in this case the majority, you are spitting on our opinions and rights and that is totally rude and out of line.  You have no right to do that.  Our rights and opinions are just as valid as yours.

You do not seem to be very well informed, either.  Maybe instead of spewing hate, you might want to read up on things like The Third Great Jihad, The Global Jihad, The Muslim Brotherhood, etc. and learn that this is an ideology that does not adhere to one country and the very same militants and fighters change countries and wars at will.  It is ONE confrontation regardless of the location of the actual fighting.  If it is militarily better to confront in Iraq than Afghanistan and it certainly is and the military makes this decision, sorry but I think the pros and experts know one hell of a lot more about it than YOU!

Bush hold a degree from both Yale and Harvard and he obtained them when his father was a junior congressman from Texan who did not have enough clout to assist him in any way so don't even go there that he didn't really earn them.  Those are liberal institutions and they are not impressed by some lowly politicians son when they have enrolled princes and actual royalty.  Something tells me you do not hold higher or equal degrees or you would be better informed in history.

You mention OBL, well he has given 2015 for the return of the Caliphate.  We can fight them there or we can fight them here.  We did NOT start this and we can't stop it at will.  I am thankful for a President with the foresight to put our foot down right in the heart of the problem.  This is not going to go away no matter who is president or what they do.  It is in the heat and mind of the global jihadists to make war on us by any means and we simply do not have any means whatsoever to change that.  And that is the fact of the matter no matter who makes claims in ignorance to the contrary.

Get real and educated and informed on what is really happening in the world instead of just making an ass of yourself.

The Stock Market just closed at yet another record high.  Feds leave rates alone.  Unemployment at historical all time low for the length of time there.  Growth continues at 3.5%.

Our economy is the envy of the entire world.  The EU has unemployment rates that are sky high in the 8% to 24% range.  We continue to prosper despite Katrina, a war on two fronts and 9-11.

These thngs don't just happen.

President Kennedy's inaugural address best expressed the American outlook.

"We shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty."

What a shame that we now have Ted Kennedy Democrats like Widget instead of real ones like President John F. Kennedy.

And if America has to go it alone, we are still the best hope of the entire world and should do the right thing even if the RealpolitiK of the left and liberals in this country and the self-serving socialist of the EU do not.

It is far better to do the right thing than be popular.  I am thankful for a President who doesn't cater to the popularity polls but sticks to doing the right and greater good under tremendous pressure to just cave and go along to get along as did his predecessor who left us vulnerable in every area.

It is not going to go away and I am very fearful for the next elections based on the recent one even though that is typical for a second term president in midterm elections.  I do hope this country will once again wake up and elect somebody who is up to the job of defending us.  Without that, nothing else much counts.

Hello,

When I read Widget's thoughts today, I copied them onto one piece of paper (like a poem) and printed it out and read it over several times.

Widget is a protest writer. Very much like protest singers such as Bob Dylan.

If this were 1966 and I read such sentences, I would think Bob would have written them.

They are absolutely antiwar statements and we were allowed to say anything in those days, especially in a song.  I guess we are out of luck when Widget cannot post the below as a protest against the government.

Anna

I want to (http://bestsmileys.com/cheering/7.gif) for your post and your families commitment to this country.   God Bless them and you for your support of this country!

I may accept Widgets remarks as a legitimate personal opinion, whether I agree or not,  if they weren't so radical and uninformative.  It's one thing to state ones opinions in a mature manner with words to back them up with.   But not one line statements as though they were an old rock singers anti-protest lyrics, with no legitimate facts to back them?.  JMO

LV,  you are correct in the fact that Widget does have the American right to free speech to what he/she thinks and feels.   That's why America is so wonderful!  But knowing full well this site is conservative, with acceptance for the most part for liberal views,  it's how you speak that can be important.  Widget only lost credibility with those types of statements.   But so be it,  speech like that doesn't win your cause.
You on the other hand, have more liberal views than others here, but at least you know how to state your cause in a credible manner.

Thank you Diana, for the nice compliment.

When Bob Dylan wrote lyrics early in his life, he grabbed a thought and added another thought and another and was able to carefully put songs together.

What I am saying about Widget is that he is doing the same thing. Yes, he WAS protesting the war and the president's part in it.

"Seems G W Bush Is On The Bin Ladin Side ..........
Diverts Troops From Afghanistan To Iraq .........
I Did nt Know Osama Was Sighted In Iraq ..........
Wait Til He Starts To Draft Your Grandkids Into The Army .........
He Says He Is The War President .......... " blah, blah.

With God on Our Side
Oh my name it is nothin'
My age it means less
The country I come from
Is called the Midwest
I's taught and brought up there
The laws to abide
And that land that I live in
Has God on its side.

Oh the history books tell it
They tell it so well
The cavalries charged
The Indians fell
The cavalries charged
The Indians died
Oh the country was young
With God on its side.

Oh the Spanish-American
War had its day
And the Civil War too
Was soon laid away
And the names of the heroes
I's made to memorize
With guns in their hands
And God on their side.

Oh the First World War, boys
It closed out its fate
The reason for fighting
I never got straight
But I learned to accept it
Accept it with pride
For you don't count the dead
When God's on your side.

When the Second World War
Came to an end
We forgave the Germans
And we were friends
Though they murdered six million
In the ovens they fried
The Germans now too
Have God on their side.

I've learned to hate Russians
All through my whole life
If another war starts
It's them we must fight
To hate them and fear them
To run and to hide
And accept it all bravely
With God on my side.

But now we got weapons
Of the chemical dust
If fire them we're forced to
Then fire them we must
One push of the button
And a shot the world wide
And you never ask questions
When God's on your side.

In a many dark hour
I've been thinkin' about this
That Jesus Christ
Was betrayed by a kiss
But I can't think for you
You'll have to decide
Whether Judas Iscariot
Had God on his side.

So now as I'm leavin'
I'm weary as Hell
The confusion I'm feelin'
Ain't no tongue can tell
The words fill my head
And fall to the floor
If God's on our side
He'll stop the next war.

Masters of War
Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs

You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly

Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain

You fasten the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
As young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

We are in Iraq. Our troops are there. What has been accomplished since we've been there? We haven't found weapons of mass destructions. Those are facts.

So are these:
The dictator of that country has been disposed. The systematic genocide of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizens by Sadaam's terrorist regime, has ended. The state sponsored rape of children has stopped. The citizens of that country began by toppling down a statue of their tormentor and
Iraq has held free elections..........women were allowed to vote! A new democracy, put in place by Iraqi citizens, was established. The justice system established by that democracy, put the former dictator of that country on trial and followed a justice system to adhere to "fairness" despite murder and threat to everyone involved in that effort. They persevered, and they reached a verdict. Sadaam was found guilty of crimes against humanity. They carried out the sentence rendered in the name of justice, and they did that without a single American present.

Think about that. American troops and American idealism brought a new concept to those tortured people, and "Justice" took the first tentative steps that country has known. And Justice did not falter but held firm to be dispensed even upon the former head of that country! On that day, regardless of how you feel about our involvement in Iraq, our troops were heroes!

For many Iraqis it was a defining event. Many had not believed that through the corruption that was all they had ever known, Saddam and his iron fist would be released from prison and be re-established. They came to the streets in celebration for the first time unafraid of being seen. Let no one suggest that we have accomplished nothing in Iraq. What has happened in Iraq is no less than a miracle.

And in the wings are the terrorists factions, spurring on, supplying munitions, setting up pockets of insurgency, bolstering divisiveness among islamic groups, dividing up Iraq for their own purposes to advance their G'had on the world of infidels. Iran is deeply involved in the difficulties we are experiencing in what they intend to claim as soon as we retreat. When it gets heated they pull back across the borders only to resurface at first opportunity. Make no mistake, American troops in Iraq are a threat to them and their plans.

The principles of the "West" is the stated target for them, and a democracy in Iraq vs. a country they can devour as soon as we are gone is what's at stake. THAT is the defining reason we are there, regardless of why we went in. That clash of ideals will take place. Radical Islam has sworn that it will and they have the funds, the technology, the focused mindset, and the astounding plan to bring it about. Unless we are willing to succumb to their world, to their God, and their authority, we will have to make a stand. Where that stand takes place, we can, at this juncture, choose. I, for one, think Iraq is the best place to draw that line.

First, we have made a commitment to the people who are just emerging from an absolute oppresion that has never fostered or allowed a sense of "nationality". We fault the Iraqi troops for ineptness and lack of committment, and make no allowances for the vast differences of their experiences when compared to our own. Iraqi troops can be trained by our own in relatively short order, but stop and contrast the roles of leadership within their military for one moment. Our high ranking commanders and strategic personnell have come up through the ranks, and have had years of experience and training to be in those positions. There is no substitute for that experience.

Recently I saw where Iraqi troops had been ambushed and called on American troops for help. By the time US troops arrived, the Iraqi troops were all dead. Eight of the commanders had been executed. The troops had run out of ammunition and the commanders were lined up and executed. THEY RAN OUT OF BULLETS! That didn't happen because they weren't committed to the cause, and it didn't happen because they want us to fight the war for them. It happened from lack of experience, and it was tragic.

Have we thought of the fate of the troops and citizens in that country who have fought with us? How long do you think they will last at the hands of the terrorists who will pounce on that country for ownership as soon as we retreat and leave them to stand against the wave. It will be a lesson that no other country in that region will ever forget, and the US will never be trusted again by any individual, weak or mighty, who dares to dream of freedom.

I hope the news media stays to cover it, and I hope they get it right, because they aren't getting it right, now. Did you see what the AP, yes, the Associated Press did? Folks, the AP is a feeder service for all of the major news distribution and they reported around Thanksgiving that four Shiite mosques were invaded, burned, and the people in them killed while Iraqi troops stood by and watched. When push finally came to shove, they named their source for the information. Last week, independent news crews finally made their way into the area to film the ruins of the churches. They didn't have any problem locating them because they hadn't been touched and were in full operation. When the AP was confronted, their only public statement was that they would no longer name their sources!

You can't watch the news without hearing Hillary declare to the world that if the war isn't over before she's in the White House, it will be in the very month she moves in. I'm sure that's a red circled date on the calendars of every terrorist regime in the Middle East. She isn't the only one planning a move at that time. It's a date that will be drenched in red for others, too. There are children, hopeful innocents standing in the crossroads and looking for help to come. They'll see American backs turned to them in the distance obligated to Hillary's ambition. After all, she and Bill are returning to the White House.

My opinions

There is a tremendous difference in a war to which the entire Congress of the United States has signed on to and the Vietnam Conflict.

To their credit, both Presidents Bush sought authorization from Congress and received it.

That alone makes this a very different situation and it is The United States of America versus whatever the specified enemy of that declaration happens to be.  Also we have an all volunteer military which was one of the very major points of contention in Vietnam.

This is NOT Vietnam.  No one has been drafted and forced to be in the military against their will.  The claims leveled against that conflict do not apply.

And I certainly do not see the hate posts by Widget as anything close to poetry nor comparable to anything by Dylan.

Romanticizing his hate is indefensible.  Wishing torture on others is not what war protesters of even the 60's were about.

And while we are on the subject of those cretins, they now have the blood of two million who died in the killing fields of Southeast Asia as a result of our abandonment of our efforts in regard.

Ignorance is a terrible thing and those who undertake to dictate actions by their government without bothering to get the facts into their empty heads before demanding a specific action do not have that as an excuse for the blood now on their hands as a result of their shallow, ill-informed demands.

No one is "for" war.  Every thinking human hates and despises it.  However, in some instances, and Vietnam is a shining example of that, the alternative is so much worse.  Why is it our liberal press never covers the re-education camps and what happened when we did remove ourselves from Vietnam?  They need to keep as many of us as possible ignorant of what happened as a result of ill-conceived policies as possible lest we refuse to believe them next time.

Iraq is the next time.

Louise....I certainly did not say anything about Widget not being able to voice his opinions.....I, in turn, have a right to disagree POLITELY...which I did...Widget and I have no problems with one another...we are still friends even though we disagree on some issues ........please do not put words in my mouth. Thank you

Anna and Cbb great post as usual. Oh you too Sunny.

Anna I know you are a great researcher. I do not always bring links but I do read everything. I also have lived along time now. So I am very opinionated just like most of us here on the Political forum.

I would love to see a female in the White House but I definitley will not be voting for Hillery and of course I have high hopes that she will not win.

I admire Rudy but I am still keeping an open mind. I was very interested in Barac Obama but until I know more about his church I have that on hold. So time will tell.

Widget,
Mississippi and Alabama had massive destruction, too.  The big difference in those states and Louisiana is the fact they had Republican governors who did not sit on their cans and block federal aid at every turn.

The President has to be invited into a state by the governor and the one in Louisiana said she would get back to him two days before Katrina hit when he called offering assistance.

Ni gan left hundreds of busses to flood, buses that could have carried people to safety.

But just as a POTUS cannot invade a foreign country, he cannot a state without the governor's invitation.  Well, he might could but it just isn't done that way.

The Republican governors of both MS and AL made all interstate lanes northbound only and evacuated most of their people.  The Democrat governor from Louisiana said SHE would decide what was done when, etc. and Ni gen couldn't even control his police force who promptly started stealing new Cadillacs instead of their jobs.

And the FEMA trailers used are mostly trashed and when the tornado hit NA recently, they were unusable because those using them had not taken even rudimentary care of them and just destroyed them like for fun.

Stupid is as stupid does.

Just some of many differences that I see in that situation.

Hello Anna My Good Friend ( Outside  Politics )

If You Use All Your Money To Fight A War & Cant Take Care Of The

Wounded When They Arrive Back Home Your Stratagy Is Failing As

A President & You Need To Find Another Solution.

The Troops Get Better Care In The War Zone.

If It Were'nt For Private Companies Assisting Wounded Victims & Their

Families This Fiasco Would Be Even Greater.

Almost NON-Existant Fed Funds For Katrina Victims Still Looms.

Did Halliburton Build That $17 Million Dollar Make-Shift Morgue That

Had A Real Price Tag Of $1 Million.

Bush & Cheney Have Loaded Their Pockets From All The Goins On In This

Unaccountable Government.

How Much Of The War Budget Goes Directly Into Their Pockets.

How Much Of The Katrina Funds Lined Their Pockets.

How Can YOU Respect Someone Who Has NO RESPECT For Our Country.

The Voice Of The People Want Us Out Of Iraq, After Finding Out The War

Was Started With LIES & DECEIT At The Top Levels Of Our Government

The People Finally Realize That This Man Bush Is NO GOOD.

His Popularity Has Sunk Lower Than The Occupancy Rate In ARUBA.

And Like His Father He Will Go Out Of Office In A Recession.

Go Dems.

It's kind of like the global warming scam  that freaking AL Gore... big ass windbag that he is... is getting nominated for his new "documentary" on global warming when he and his buddy CLINTON didn't bother to pass that all important legislation called the Kyoto Treaty when they were in office....

interesting how those things are NEVER mentioned when the Bush bashing starts...

Funny but Bush bashing seems to be a popular past-time of those that don't want to discuss those problems.... or ever say anything about how CONGRESS controls more budget cuts than the President...

HAVE YOU EVER HEARD THE WORD VETO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

have you ever heard of the word over ride??

you are complaining about Katrina... how about all the corruption that has been in New Orleans since the city began??? OH, but you're not about to admit that the Democrats that controlled New Orleans since inception pocketed the money.... now are you?

Yes The Word Over-Ride Is A Commission Above & Beyond.........

Yes Bush & Cheney Got Over-Rides On Everything They Touched .....

You Must Like Being In The Minority Since Bushs Approval Rating Is 27 ..

Really Surprised Your A Bush Cheerleader Mrs Red...............

You Who Supposedly Looks For The Truth ...........

But After All The Lies From Aruba You Just Got Accustomed To Lies .......

People like to dump it on Bush as if it's his fault. Sorry to say, but it wasn't. No one could of been prepared for this type of disaster, no one. (ie Katrina)Bush called New Orleans Governor and asked if they needed assistant and she said, "no, we have it under controll". He told her if she finds they do need help to let him know, they would be on stand by. So let's dump the fault where it is due.

Mayor of New Orleans: The Mayor chose to leave school buses in the low lands while his city flooded.
Americans poured out their hearts and souls to help the people of New Orleans after Katrina. The US government has thrown all sorts of money at this city in efforts to not only rebuild but also rejuvenate a city that still has time and money for Mardi Gras. While those of New Orleans scammed their way through FEMA to make out with a LOT of money for those who truly need it.
Any sense of justice would question decisions made by the Governor on down to Mayor Nagin - decisions that turned away an Amtrak train that could hold up to 1,000 people for evacuation. A City who was offered help by President Bush before Katrina struck and New Orleans Governor assured people they didn't need it. A City that couldn't articulate what they needed after Katrina struck. Police officers who instead of stopping looters, joined them. A City out of control who still hasn't learned.

So let's dump the fault where it is due.

First off widget, I'm not a DUDE, I'm all women.

Bush called into the Governor of LA to send in help. The Governor of LA said NO they can handle it. I don't care what anyone feels or thinks the President should of or could of done, without the Governor of LA specifically asking for help the President will not go in. He asked and was told NO. What of that you don't understand?

People were warned days before the hurricane hit to get out. They did not heed the warnings. They thought they could ride it out like they did hurricane Camelle from back in the 60s. They thought wrong. It's their own fault. Not the President. They were warned they may pay the consequences if they remain. They did not heed the warnings.  I don't care if they didn't have a car or are old, they could of walked across that bridge to the other side within that 3 or more days time to get out. I would of carried my sick grandmother on my back to get out or in a kids wagon if it meant to save my life or her life. The city should have emergency plans set in these type of emergencies. It's their responsibility not the Presidents. They should of known how to get hospital patients shuttled out, not leave their constituates behind while their electives took off without making sure all were out. Their own electives failed them, not the President.

After the hurricane, rescue mission began. Coast Guard was sent in. This is a military team, not a civilian team. It takes a few days to organize a rescue mission. It's not an overnight mission. Obviously you have no experiance with the military or you might not feel the same. If you do, then you are misquided in your thoughts on the Presidents responsibilities.

I don't know what you people think but after many hurricanes have come through Pensacola FL we didn't yell for a President to send in troops to help us. And trust me, hurricane Ivan and Dennis wiped Pensacola FL out. Not as bad as Katrina but it looked like a bomb went off here. Many of us could not even return to our homes or many still to this day do not have their homes. Many in tents or moved to another city or state. It took over a year for my house repairs to be finished. For a month we were living out of a hotel in another city. Upon our return we had my mother, sister and nieces and nephews here with us until they could return home.

It's not the Presidents responsibility to rescue us or give us back what we lose in natural disasters. That is what insurance is for and what your elected State Governors, Mayors, Representatives are for. Maybe you should put the blame where it is due. Back onto LA elected officials and Representatives.

And just because the President flew over LA doesn't make him a bad person. You people need to come off your band wagon and get a real clue. LA electives are to blame for the lack of help. They didn't know who to contact obviously. They failed their own people, not the President. The President called in advance, 2 days prior, to send in help. He was told no. Not maybe, not I will think about it, not let me get back with you, not no but maybe later, but "No".  Then the electives try to put the blame on the President to cover their own asses. Sad but true.

As I wrote before...

The reason why Florida got Fed Funds quickly is because Florida has dealt with hurricanes for many years in our paths. Not because of the President being his kin. And Jeb Bush knows his job and responsibilities unlike those in LA. Clearly that makes a big difference too. Jeb Bush and our elected Representitives, for our Florida Sunshine State, have emergency plans already set incase of emergencies and drastic times.

From closely watching tv during Katrina, it was made clear LA Governor, Mayor and Representivies didn't. Now they are playing the blame game unto others instead of themselves.

Like any human being, I'm sure President Bush was in shock over 9/11.
I could go into why ex-Pres. Clinton could be held partially accountable for 9/11 happening but it would cause an out right war here.

Remember during Clintons term, secret ops were in place to take Osama out, they were waiting on command by Madam Albrieght(sp) and such and were told to abort because they were unsure if civillians were inside the building where Osama Bin Laudin was. Because of this one action, Clintons own advisors, 9/11 took place. Clintons informants were even told in advance about 9/11 but did not act on it. Sadly Pres. Bush knew nothing of it. And sadly everyone wants to point the finger at Pres. Bush as if it's his fault. All I can do is shake my head at those who clearly don't look at the truth.

I pray Hillary Clinton never holds Pres. office.  Mrs. ex-Pres. Clinton and Mr. Clinton already ruined our Health Care. They held more scandels than any other Pres. in office in record history.

THIS is what I'm posting about widget, it's absurd for you to make comments like that and also the ultimate in patronization to a female.

You have two daughters now, this isn't the 70's anymore when that type of ignorant comment will fly at least around some of us early feminists.

Mrs sure makes one wonder doesn't it?

I wanted to post this because it's written by an a journalist who obviously does not support Bush or the war, but what's more important is that despite that, he sees the dangers of what Pelosi is proposing.

I think this should be required reading for every voting american with their corn flakes, he tells it exactly like it is, every single crack in Pelosi's 'mad' strategy   and he doesn't drag it out, he's short and to the point which is something hard for me and I admire in others.

I don't have to agree with all that he says but I cannot deny he's dead-on regarding the consequences, which is WHY it's so important that we all think critically and not just TOE THE PARTY LINE. If you don't see what's happening in Washington, if you don't see that this is a clear partisan effort on the part of Pelosi to have the Dems capitalize on the anti-war sentiment to gain control in the next elections, you probably didn't learn what you should have in high school which is where critical thinking process should emerge and take hold in your life. We are one of if not the most educated populations/countries in this world, we should know better than to let this debacle happen in Washington. The decision regarding Iraq should rise and fall upon the large umbrella of potential consequences and not elections at home.

War deadline is worst strategy
By Michael Goodwin

Saturday, March 17, 2007

With their plan to set a deadline for pulling our troops out of Iraq, Democrats in Congress are proving the wisdom of an old maxim: Nothing is so bad that it can’t be made worse.

The war is a disaster and President Bush has been a lousy commander in chief, with the disgraceful treatment of wounded warriors the latest proof. The public is sick of the mess and wants the war to end yesterday.

Voter disgust gave Democrats their midterm election victories. But now that they have power, Dems are stumped about how to turn anti-Bush slogans into policy. After weeks of fiddling around with various pieces of legislation and resolutions, their leaders have hit on something the party is rallying around.

Unfortunately, the solution they’ve settled on — binding legislation to pull all combat troops from Iraq by March 31, 2008 — is the worst one possible.

Think of the impact around the world. If you’re the enemy, you know you’ve won — all you have to do is wait for us to ship out. If you’re one of our G.I.s, you’re being told to keep risking your life, but however it turns out, we’re bringing you home on an arbitrary schedule. If you’re an Iraqi civilian friendly to us, we’re leaving you to the wolves.

If you’re the nut job president of Iran, whoopee, you’ve driven the Great Satan off the battlefield. If you’re Osama bin Laden, you raise a glass of camel pee to toast a victory over the infidels. And if you’re one of our allies in Europe or Asia, you wonder what the hell is going on in America.

Like I said, this “solution” takes a bad situation and makes it worse.

Ultimately, the legislation would come to nothing because Bush has promised to veto it. No doubt that’s partially why some Dems are hedging their bets. Sen. Hillary Clinton, who had advocated a cap on troops and opposed a deadline, says now she supports the new plan but insists it really isn’t a deadline, despite what Majority Leader Harry Reid says.

“It’s a goal, it’s not a hard deadline, it’s a goal,” Clinton told The New York Times. “We’re just trying to create some pressure on the president. That’s the whole point here.”

She better tell that to Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who wants to pull the troops out by the end of this year. If Clinton votes for any deadline when the Senate bill comes up next week, she’ll be for it, no matter how she tortures the meaning of “is.” Surely she doesn’t want to go down the road of “I voted for it, but I was really against it.” A similar whopper about her 2002 vote supporting the invasion isn’t exactly a best seller on the campaign trail.

Therein lies the Dems’ dilemma, especially those with White House ambitions. The war is off the tracks and Bush won’t listen to reason. Troop requirements for his surge are growing beyond the promised 21,500, and our new commander says even more may be needed, and for a long time. Even then there is no guarantee Iraqis will choose reconciliation over slaughter, or that their government will be more than a front for warlords.

All of which means there are no good answers in Iraq or at home. There are only bad ones, and worse ones. Then there is the worst of all — a fixed deadline for withdrawal.

The first lottery after the reinstitution of the draft lottery was held on December 1, 1969, at Selective Service National Headquarters in Washington, D.C. This event determined the order of call for induction during calendar year 1970.

That would have been for induction 37 yrs ago.

Most folks in theater in 1970 and later were wearing Jungle Boots.

you know Widget, I am not one that needs to resort to emotion or lies to prove my points.  I don't have the posts or emails where you said you were 39, but I guarantee that there are other people that remember you saying that.

Here is what I would like to see though.... why is it that you simply can not  come into this thread and talk like everyone else?  It is your way or the damn highway... and if I don't have that luxury why should you?

You are blantantly disrespectful and quite frankly an assbite in how you speak to people.....

everyone I have ever met that lives in Costa Rica is nothing more than a blowhard trustfund baby that can't even begin to think or survive in any surrounding other than the cocoon of trustfund living which quite frankly isn't the reality for most people --

it is completely funny to me that those that don't have to , or know how to work love to tell others how to do so....

so see, Widget, it's very easy to draw conclusions based on emperical evidence isn't it?

so see, Widget, it's very easy to draw conclusions based on emperical evidence isn't it?

But holding my opinions to myself, because quite frankly a few of you scare the hell out of me lol.

I hear ya Seamonkey.

I enjoy reading the political forum (most of the time  :) ) and I do have opinions on most everything. But y'all are so much smarter than I am, so I just read and think.
