PALATKA, Fla. -- The father of the little girl who vanished in 2009, sparking an Amber alert that thrust the town of Satsuma into the national spotlight has learned his sentence on drug charges.

Ronald Cummings agreed to plead guilty to three of the five drug cases against him in August, in exchange for two of the cases being dropped.

This morning, he was sentenced to three years and a $50,000 fine, 15 years and a $100,000 fine, and 15 years in the three cases, to be served concurrently.

He faced a maximum of 70 years if sentenced to the max on all three cases to be served consecutively.

The concurrent sentences mean he faces 15 years total.

His mother took the stand this morning to plea for leniency in the sentence.

"He is a good father, he has two children," said Teresa Neves. "We might not know where one is, but he has two children."

Cummings, his ex-wife Misty Croslin and three other people were arrested in January on drug trafficking charges.

Croslin entered a no-contest plea in August and awaits sentencing in October, where she could be sentenced anywhere from about six years to 240 years.

Croslin was the last person to see Cummings' daughter in Feb. 2009, when she was babysitting Haleigh Cummings in The Cummings' Satsuma home.

Haleigh disappeared and has been the subject of a nationwide Amber alert since, though the sheriff has said he believes her to be dead.

Misty's attorney, Robert Fields, said in August that Misty had finally opened up about what happened that night, saying her brother and cousin took Haleigh.

PALATKA, Fla. -- Ronald Cummings, the father of a girl who disappeared 19 months ago, will serve 15 years in prison and is fined $200,000 for selling prescription drugs.

Ronald Cummings, along with his ex-wife, Misty Cummings, her brother, Hank Croslin Jr., and two other people were arrested in January on drug trafficking charges after an undercover drug sting by St. Johns and Putnam County detectives.

Misty and Hank have pleaded no contest to the charges. Croslin received a 15-year sentence and Misty Cummings faces sentencing in October.

Ronald Cummings, 26, who pleaded guilty in August, could have faced a maximum of 90 years in prison, but reached an agreement with prosecutors that two of five charges he faced would be dropped in exchange for Cummings testifying in any future criminal trial involving the disappearance of his daughter.

At a 15-minute sentencing hearing Friday morning, the state did not call any witnesses, but Cummings' mother, Teresa Neves, did make a brief, tearful plea for mercy for her son.

Judge Terry LaRue then sentenced Cummings to two 15-year and one seven-year sentence, but will allow the time to be served concurrently. Larue also sentenced Cummings to pay a $200,000 fine plus court costs, but that could be modified later by a civil judge.

All three defendants are central figures in the disappearance of Ronald Cummings' 5-year-old daughter in February 2009. After an Amber Alert, weeks of exhaustive searching and an investigation involving more than 4,000 leads, Haleigh remains missing. In April, the Putnam County sheriff said she is likely dead and described the case as a homicide investigation.

Terry Shoemaker, Ronald Cummings' attorney, told Channel 4's Tarik Minor that his client isn't buying his ex-wife and brother-in-law's account of Haleigh's disappearance, saying a cousin from Tennessee went to Cummings' mobile home to retrieve a gun and took Haleigh instead.

That cousin, Joe Overstreet, has been questioned at least twice by detectives, but never charged or named a suspect in Haleigh's case.

"Ronald has a hard time believing someone would go to the house to get a gun and take a child instead," Shoemaker said. "He questions that aspect of it."

Shoemaker said that if Haleigh's body is never found but police are able to make an arrest, testimony may be the basis of a criminal prosecution. He said Ronald Cummings' relationships with each party is important in developing a timeline leading up to Haleigh's disappearance.

PALATKA — Ronald Cummings will spend 15 years in prison for taking part in a string of drug deals selling prescription pills.

Cummings, 26, was sentenced this morning in Palatka on three of five counts of dealing that were recorded in an undercover operation that also arrested his former wife and three others.

Cummings, whose daughter Haleigh disappeared in February 2009, didn't comment to the judge in the 15-minute hearing.

His mother, Teresa Neves, told the court her son was a good man and father who had made bad decisions.

Circuit Judge Terry LaRue didn't comment on the case other than to impose sentences of 15 years apiece on two counts and three years on a third count to run concurrently. Two cases were dropped by prosecutors.

Cummings was the only person involved in the case to get a plea deal. His ex-wife, Misty Croslin, still faces sentencing in eight prescription drug-trafficking charges. Three others, including Croslin's brother Hank "Tommy" Croslin Jr., Cummings' cousin Hope Sykes and Misty Croslin's friend Donna Brock have all been sentenced to 15 years apiece.

Following the sentencing, Cummings' attorney, Terry Shoemaker, said he thought Ronald's willingness to testify in any cases involving Haleigh's disappearance or the drug cases played a role in the state's willingness to make a deal. Cummings could have been sentenced to 25 years.

Shoemaker said prosecutors may have been sympathetic that Cummings' daughter disappeared. Her case has not been solved and investigators believe the 5-year-old who vanished from Cummings' Satsuma mobile home where she was being watched by Croslin is dead.

Family members sobbed and hugged after the sentencing. Cummings also was fined $250,000.

Beautiful, you would have had a slap fit over Tee & CC's shoes today.  Professional dancer shoes, IMO. One wore gold, the other wore silver. [Swear-to-gawd. 5" heels. Astonishing.]  Tee has a rack on her I never noticed before today.  Dunno if they are real but they are HUMONGOUS.  Her hair was shorter, but not short.

grAnnette and Tee sat on separate rows. Very little convo except for Tee to advise grAnnette that she would be the only one testifying.

Crystal S seemed more authentically tearful than anybody else except the balloon lady and a youngish woman wearing blue. [Looked like she was maybe in her 20s.]  JMO - Crystal & Marie were extraordinarily gracious to Ron's family.

Tee & the rest of Ron's family snuck out of the side door after the hearing.  Crystal and Marie did an interview on the courthouse steps.  Terry answered 2 or 3 questions but had to scoot because he had to get to Orlando.

Crystal and some of her family seem convinced that Misty did it or at least knows who did. JMO.

In the hallway outside of the courtroom, Crystal & Marie waited for Ron's family and embraced and comforted all of them. It was especially touching to see Marie hugging Annette.

Outside, First Coast News reported Crystal Sheffield, Haleigh’s mother, and other family members in the courthouse parking lot, crying. All said they believed the sentence was too short.

So did members of Croslin’s family. “I don’t see how it’s fair at all,” Misty’s sister in law, Chelsea Croslin, told The Bald Truth Friday. “Misty kept changing her story, and it always benefited Ronald. That’s why he’d always say, “I believe Misty.’ I think she’s scared to death to tell what she knows. No one seems interested at all in even hearing what she might have to say. There are a lot of things in her story that don’t add up, but I think she’s changed it because Ronald threatened her. I still think she’s protecting Ronald out of fear.”

Other family members hugged nearby, and said the 15-year sentence was a bitter disappointment.

"We had hoped and prayed things would be different but nothing we could do about it right this minute. We just have to pray a little harder," said Annette Sykes, Haleigh's great grandmother.

Terry Shoemaker, Cummings attorney, said they were expecting this sentence because it is the minimum mandatory, and that his client has done what he could to help the other drug cases.

God Bless this angel, and I have to say I am impressed that both families were at least able to hug and comfort each other...that shows some class IMO. I have to say I don't know if I would have been so gracious. Again, I heard Ron gave up info he knew for a deal which pisses me off like nothing else, when your child is gone you tell all ASAP, the very minute LE arrives. It just shows how pathetically selfish he is to put his needs (shorter sentence) ahead of his child.........the sentence does seem short considering his history when compared to others. At least it is some weird sort of justice for HaLeigh, but for those who are still looking for her and think she is still alive it's heart breaking that not one damn scumbag in this bunch has decided to give them even a measure of peace, instead all in jail are still covering their ass. ::MonkeyMad:: ::MonkeyMad::

Islandmonkey I laughed till I almost wet my pants looking at their stripper shoes going to court!!!  Pure white trash testifying in court.  Please forgive me for saying that but I just couldn't help it.  I'm surprised TN didn't throw on her LE jacket over that dress!  Poor little HaLeigh, she would have ended up just like the rest of them.  You know it would be so nice if she was just taken by some sweet little family that wanted a child and she's living the life a child could only dream of!  Not what should happen either but it beats the actual truth.

15 years.. so in Florida does that mean Ron will be out in 7 1/2 years with 'good behavior'?  Here in Nebraska, it's one day off the sentencing for every good day served, which makes for half the time sentenced.  Hard to think that Ron will be the upstanding role model inmate tho.  Heh.

When 19-year-old Hope Sykes was sentenced in April to 15 years in prison for drug trafficking, she looked stunned. Then she cried.

The Satsuma teenager had pleaded no contest to selling 25 hydrocodone pills to an undercover officer. Her co-defendants - including her cousin Ronald Cummings, the father of missing Putnam County girl Haleigh Cummings - also face terms of at least 15 years under Florida's mandatory minimum drug sentences.

Among the toughest mandatory minimum laws in the nation, Florida mandates strict prison terms - with no time off for good behavior - for convictions of drug dealing, use of a gun during a crime and sex crimes involving children.

Under Florida's sentencing laws, for example, a person convicted of trafficking a weight of oxycodone that amounts to about 44 pills faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years in prison, according to policy analysis done in October for the Florida Senate.

But as Florida's prison population continues to swell and the state budget continues to shrink, some are asking whether mandatory sentences still are advisable from a standpoint of finances, fairness and effectiveness at deterring crime.

"Florida has some of the harshest penalties. The mandatory minimum for (trafficking) over 28 grams of Vicodin or oxycodone is 25 years. In Texas, it's two," said Deborah Fleischaker, state legislative affairs director of Families Against Mandatory Minimums.

Well, I for one am glad he got the 15 years and should have gotten more, makes up for the charges he was never charged with before and the crimes Im sure he has commited and never got caught at! I cant believe Teresa would sit her butt in court and say...He has two kids......omg, he has 3 kids, and being a GrandMother she couldnt even do the right thing and mention his son by Amber, sick......Im discusted with the whole bunch....I guess Ambers son is  really the lucky one, at least if the Cumming's family dont claim him then he will never have to be around the idiots! Goodbye Ronald and I hope you have to serve every minute of those 15 years, not a second less and I hope you have to think of HaLeigh every second and how you put her in danger. So, Ron gave them something. Too bad he didn't give it to them the same day Haleigh went " missing ". The man is all about himself. IMO, they all lied in the beginning to cover their azzes becasue there were drugs, drug deals, drug taking and all the rest of it and now they are all going to jail on newer drug charges. Karma.
Jail time ages a person in dog years, by the time any of them get out they will look and feel 7 times their ages.

Ronald gets 15 years

Quiet sobs from relatives of Ronald Cummings were heard in a Palatka courtroom Friday morning as the 26-year-old father of Haleigh Cummings was sentenced to 15 years in prison on drug charges.

Shackled and wearing a dark blue jail jumpsuit, Cummings was silent during the hearing. His attorney, Terry Shoemaker, spoke for him, confirming his plea of guilty to three counts of trafficking in hydrocodone pills.

Cummings originally faced five counts after a month-long undercover investigation in January. Cummings would have faced a minimum sentence of 25 years had the two not been dropped.

In a plea deal with prosecutors, Cummings had to provide information dealing with the narcotics case and the ongoing investigation into his 5-year-old daughter's disappearance.

"Personally I think that 15 years is too much, however that's what the statute requires and I understand the state's position," Shoemaker said.

The charges stem from three transactions in which he dealt in a total of 39.7 grams of hydrocodone worth $465.

A camera secretly recorded the transactions and the videos served as key evidence against Cummings and four more people charged after the investigation.

"I think that the reason that we were able to get a lesser sentence than the 25 years is because of Haleigh's case," Shoemaker said. "I think deep down the state feels sorry, whether or not they admit it, and realizes what Ronald's been through with Haleigh."

Cummings' mother, Teresa Neves, was the only person to testify Friday.

"I just want you to know that Ronald is a very good man," Neves said. "He has always been a very good father. He made a wrong choice. He has two children, we may not know where one of them is, but he does have two children that need him."

Crystal Sheffield, the children's mother, was present but declined to comment, saying that she was there for "my kids."

Haleigh disappeared from her Satsuma home on Feb. 10, 2009, and no sign of her has been found. The case was declared a homicide in April.

Shoemaker said Cummings spoke with investigators and "offered a lot of valuable information."

The majority of the information included details of the days leading up to Haleigh's disappearance, he added.

Others arrested in the case include Misty Croslin, 18; her brother, Hank Croslin Jr., 24; Cummings' cousin Hope Sykes, 18; and Donna Brock, 43.

Sykes and Hank Croslin Jr. each were sentenced to 15 years in prison, Misty Croslin is scheduled to be sentenced next month on eight counts of trafficking.

Putnam County sheriff's officials have said the drug investigation was not connected to the Haleigh case.

Authorities say Misty Croslin reported Haleigh missing at 3:27 a.m. just as Cummings returned from his night shift job at PDM Bridge in Palatka. Croslin said when she awoke about 3 a.m., the kitchen light was on, the back door was propped open with a concrete block and Haleigh was gone.

In a frantic 911 call, Cummings can be heard in the background yelling, "What did you do to my daughter?"

Crying, Croslin replied that she was sleeping.

The two married a month later, but divorced after seven months.

Allegations were recently made that Joe Overstreet, Croslin's Tennessee cousin, came to the home with Hank Croslin Jr. the night before Haleigh was reported missing and took the girl when he couldn't find a gun.

Croslin's attorney said her brother told investigators a similar story last spring, which triggered a three-day search of the St. Johns River near the Shell Harbour boat ramp.

No evidence was found in the search.

The sheriff's refuses to discuss the Haleigh case, saying it remains under investigation. Authorities have provided little information to the public about investigation's progress or status.

Last year, detectives said Misty Croslin had provided inconsistent statements to investigators and that she was key to solving the case.

Misty said it was Ron's baby. Ron also picked the kiddo up from Amber's Granda or Mum at one point. Guess Amber never went to court to get child support and have the paternity test done.
Doesn't matter really who the parents are, Amber has a drug issue, kid is growing up being raised by druggies. Unless the GP or parents are involved and they are sober peeps, kiddo doesn't stand a chance.

Misty's Shocking New Confession?



It was reported on the Jane Velez Mitchell show, "Issues" that Misty Croslin has been "cracked" by detectives and has given the "truth" of what "really happened" to Haleigh in the homicide investigation.

Misty Croslin has now has recanted her Cousin Joe story.
Students of Statement Analysis saw that Joe Overstreet appeared to have offered, unprompted, the "I didn't do it" on TV. This is something that the guilty (unprompted) struggle to do. We took it as truth, given if unprompted, though body language experts said he was lying.

Body language is fascinating and has its use, but must be based upon a standard for each individual, and that Statement Analysis, which listens rather than interprets, is far more reliable. Body language needs a reference point for each subject. (Dr. Eckman)

Fifty horses went searching, helicopters, people sacrificed their time and donated money to help Haleigh's search.

Yes...I agree completely!  What type of pond scum has a missing child and goes to an amusement park!   ::MonkeyNoNo::  Makes me absolutely sick...I could never do that because I would want my daughter to enjoy the theme park with me and just the fact that she was missing and Ron and Misty could just go on with their lives like she never existed (unless their was a camera and microphone present) speaks volumes.  They all (Misty, Ron, and Tommy) knew what went down that night...and they have all been in CYA mode regarding Haleigh ever since.  The fact that these pillbillies had the audacity to deal drugs when Haleigh was missing just shows that they thought they were above the law.

It is one of those things that I can't explain, just like in Kyron's case where I'm not with most people, guess it is a gut feeling, and it is hard to explain. But I can see that people don't think he was involved also.

NRCG...I agree...Something never sat right with Ron and his acting on camera and living la vita loca off camera.  And I feel the same about the Hormans...except the la vita loca.  I think both men...RC and KH...are very controlling in different manners.  RC is outwardly controlling and has no problem threatening people verbally and physically.  KH is controlling behind closed doors.  KH is very intelligent, very quiet and there is no way that he was as clueless as he tries to pass himself off.  In the news videos of both men and the women they are interacting with...Misty, Desiree, Terri...you can see how the women look at them...in a kind of apprehensive "am I doing the right thing" way so HE doesn't get upset.  This is, of course, my opinion...which some monkeys don't agree with...heck...I was even accused of being a TH supporter...too funny.  I support the truth and I support Innocent until proven guilty.  Fear of the guilty is how the guilty have avoided justice. 

In all the videos, pictures, and interviews I just do not see him as being the grieving or concerned parent. I do not see the fear in his eyes that says my child is missing and I may never see them again. What would be the VERY FIRST THING you would do if you came home from work and found out your child was missing? Call the police. Instead he puts this little girl on the phone to do it at least a half hour after he gets home. Did he go back into the woods to look? For crying out loud they lived on the edge of the woods, that would be my first thought of a place to look. I see absolutely nothing in his words or actions that shows he is a concerned parent. The words coming out of his mouth all sounded scripted to me. Even the time that he vowed revenge on whomever did this to his little girl. I may be totally wrong. If I am I will eat my words. But I think he knew from the get go exactly what happened to Haleigh.

LE was on RC from the very beginning. 

CC was told to get a change of clothes for RC & MC, because LE wanted the Duds worn on that night of the 911 Call.

LE showed good judgement, he took RC's & MC's clothes in as evidence.

While I am working hard on this, and have made great progress, I am a controlling person.  I am soft and totally trusting with my children only.

With adults, especially those I know, I act the same as Ron acted in the clip.  When I am listening to a story someone is telling, I tend to look off into space fully concentrating on what the other is saying.  My head will jerk slightly towards them ( still not looking at them ) if I hear something that sounds "off" to me.  I do not say anything, but I am letting it sink in, not even processing ( that comes later as I get madder and madder ..yes I know the word is" angry" but I get mad ).
The only facial expressions would be my lips pursing or tightening and maybe some slight head nodding.
 
I have also had to PRACTICE being still and not interupting, even if I were not there...somehow I thought I knew the answer based on past experiences or the particular lay out of a situation.  Example, when Ron corrects Misty about the space between them when sleeping, in my head I would see where the beds are and where I USUALLY see each sleep.  I would have corrected the person thinking they were  being stupid based on what MY mind was seeing.
please know I am remembering from my past, the things I have worked on for years to overcome.  I am no longer that person but can remember well because had to work so hard to overcome those traits.  It was all a result of hypervigilance and lack of trust.
I can see where Ron would have those types of trust issues and the false bravado that he is smarter than those around him.


As for Misty, I can see her disassociating from the interview due to being guilty or knowing more than she can let on.  Then the short answers until she comes to the "planned story" part. 

I am in no way professional,  I just remember my own dysfunctional coping techniques.

I do not think Ron was involved, but I know something is not right if you can in any way justify spending money and laughing when you baby is missing.  To know the child is helpless, scared, or even gone forever, would be more than I can handle.  Even the drunks I know would get drunk to forget, then let their anger out at everyone one and every thing.

I hope no one thinks I am being obnoxious here, it's just that I tend to see some of Ron's early behavior as learned coping strategies.

I have never trusted Ron and his family and that's that. I don't trust the Croslins either. And I never thought that cousin Joe did anything to Haleigh.

Do we know, from any other source beside Chelsea, that LE took the clothes Ron and Misty were wearing that night?
LE has said all along that R is not a suspect, so I guess they didn't find anything on his clothes, don't know about Misty's.

I still say Chelsea was not invested in Hayleigh, she had only known her for a short while, but she WILL say whatever it takes to save Misty, and her own husband Timmy.
If Chelsea knew anything of worth to this case, she should have said so long ago, I just don't believe her.

Thanks Muffy!  With penalties such as this in Florida, it's curious to me why anyone would mess around with drugs in that area.  Am guessing they figure they won't get caught. 

HH, I agree, my jaw hit the floor when I read Teresa's comment that Ron has 2 kids, even tho one is missing.  (something like that). First thing I thought of was what about Amber and Ron's lil one, he has THREE children, even tho one is missing.  That's a slap in the face to Amber by Teresa.  And to her grandson.  Whether Teresa wants to acknowledge that him or not, that doesn't make him any less real.  And Ron himself has acknowledged him, even if he doesn't want to 'be bothered' with him.  In a sense, yes, the lil boy is better off being ignored by the Cummings family... considering who the Cummings family actually is... It's likely a painful thing tho for Amber, and for that lil boy when he's older and understands the situation.  Sad.

Why Misty Croslin Did It – The Pee Theory

 

In the first couple days of the investigation of the Haleigh Cummings missing person case, Misty Croslin incriminated herself with comments about little Haleigh having wet her blanket. Just like Chelsea Croslin, I have had over a year to think about this case. In retrospect, there is absolutely no reason at all for Misty Croslin to have been talking about this, other than the fact that at the time Misty viewed this event to be very significant. Chelsea Croslin's Haleigh Overdose Theory Analyzed

This week, Chelsea Croslin, wife of Timmy Croslin (sister of Misty Croslin) appeared on the JVM show.

She has given her theory which says that Haleigh died of an accidental overdose when she found "drug boy" Ronald Cummings' pills and then Ronald orchestrated the cover up by coercing others into helping dispose of the body.

Is this plausible?

For many of us, it has been the most plausible explanation we have postulated. For others, there is strong opposition because they believe that Ronald Cummings was an innocent victim and a grieving father.

Let's look at the transcripts of the show, using Statement Analysis, as well as commentary of what we know about those involved in the case. This would include the following presuppositions:

1. Misty Croslin has been deceptive in particular, on the 911 call and initial interview with media (see prior analysis).
2. Ronald Cummings have been deceptive, including 911 call and his interview with Geraldo (see prior analysis)
3. Tommy Croslin has lied, failing polygraphs.

Last week Chelsea Croslin, the sister-in-law of Misty Croslin spoke out in an Exclusive interview on HLN's "Issues with Jane Velez-Mitchell" and gave her theory on what happened to missing Florida girl Haleigh Cummings.

Croslin said she thinks that Haleigh died by overdosing on pills belonging to the missing child's father, Ronald Cummings and that Tommy Croslin and Joe Overstreet disposed of the body.

Croslin also said she thinks the mysterious "man in black" that Haleigh's little brother claimed he witnessed abducting his sister, was in fact Ronald Cummings and that Ronald's work uniform was black, and that police have that uniform.

Art Harris reported on http://www.artharris.com/ that Ronald's uniform was blue. But is it possible that Jr could get blue confused with black? Would a blue uniform look like a black uniform if there were no lights on in the trailer and it was dark?

Chelsea Croslin also exposed Ronald Cummings as a twofaced little weasel. While Cummings was a regular on HLN's "Nancy Grace" and was known for crying in front of the cameras, Chelsea provided photos to HLN where after Haleigh went missing, Ronald was smiling, kissing and celebrating with Misty Croslin.

IMO all that Gma Flo knows is what her grandkids are telling her, or what she has seen on TV.
I believe Lisa's court date is Wed.

Misty was in the car with Ron when he picked up Haleigh at the busstop per Chelsea on Levi Page.

And Misty and Ron were not back together the night HaLeigh went missing.

It was Misty's blanket in van. ALL her things were still in van from RON throwing her things out per Chelsea.

Chelsea said Teresa and Annette paid Misty to babysit that night and she called Chelsea that afternoon.

Chelsea:  MISTY said she was at busstop BUT CC did not see her only Ron. Both Misty & Ron picked Haleigh up at bus stop.

 

Chelsea: Ronald and Misty left the windows up because Misty didnt want Chelsea to know she went back to Ronald.

2:40 is supposedly when Ron left for work and it was unusual for him to be home when Haleigh got home per Chelsea

Ronald picked up Misty up from PCSO..and told LE that Misty's interview was done and he pulled her out of interviews..

Misty and Ron told Chelsea they put the rat in the mailbox, says Chelsea, she knows this for a fact.

Well, we will have to wait and see what stories Chelsea will be telling tomorrow, lol.

I wonder what her answers would be for Tommy being at RC's mh that night, and other questions I would like to pose to her. Especially if Tommy is innocent why did he put himself at the scene of a crime, he and Joe Overstreet.

I LOVED the large type announcing the outcome of Tommy's request for a reduced sentence!!!  So appropriate.

I stopped assuming or expecting anything in this case, but I am so hoping this sends a clear message to Misty...if you have ANYTHING you had better give it up now.  I think the girl is living in denial, thinking a miracle will happen Friday.

A key figure in the Haleigh Cummings case lost his bid Monday for a reduced sentence on oxycodone trafficking charges.

Hank "Tommy" Croslin Jr. had petitioned to cut the 15-year jail term he received in August, with his attorney suggesting three to five years was more consistent with similar cases in Putnam County.

"Fifteen years might be a bit of overkill," defense attorney James Werter told Circuit Judge Terry LaRue.

But LaRue wasn't moved.


"I gave considerable consideration to it," the judge said of the sentence.

Croslin's sister, Misty, was babysitting Haleigh when the child was reported missing Feb. 10, 2009. No trace of the blond-haired kindergartner has been seen since and authorities say they believe she was killed.

An undercover investigation, complete with high-quality videos of illegal prescription drug sales late last year, quickly bore fruit, in stark contrast to the missing child-homicide probe. Several people close to the Haleigh case were jailed on drug charges in January.

Hank Croslin Jr., 24, was arrested on two counts of trafficking.

His sister, Misty, faces seven counts in Putnam County and another St. Johns County, and is slated to be sentenced later this month.
Ronald Cummings, Haleigh's father, in August was sentenced to 15 years after authorities dropped three of the five charges against him.

His cousin, 19-year-old Hope Sykes, received a 15-year prison term in April.

During Monday's hearing, LaRue reiterated his surprise that Hank Croslin Jr. and the others would engage in the sales since they were in the public eye.

"I had trouble believing that they could do that, and I still do," LaRue said.

The judge said he felt the 15-year sentence was fair.

"It was drug dealing," he said. "No doubt about it."

As he did last month, Werter blamed Croslin's problems on his home environment and drug addiction. He said Croslin had tried to "break the cycle he grew up in."

Members of Croslin's family sat in the front row of the courtroom. Some sobbed during the hearing.

Behind them sat members of Haleigh Cummings' family, several wearing T-shirts or holding photos of the child.

Prior to the 20-minute hearing, Marie Griffis, Haleigh's maternal grandmother, hugged Ronald's mother outside the courtroom and after the hearing they stood talking in the shade outside the courthouse.

Ronald Cummings mother said she supported Croslin's sentence.

"They're not in here getting a reduced sentence and I don't think he should have either," she said.
Asked about her son, Neves said, "I don't even think he should have been in there but that's how it goes."

In August, a prosecutor said Hank Croslin Jr. remained a suspect in the Haleigh case.

Defense attorneys recently said he and his cousin, Joe Overstreet of Tennessee, went to the Cummings home in Satsuma looking for a gun and not finding it, Overstreet abducted Haleigh and dumped her body in the St. Johns River.

Overstreet has not been named as a suspect in the case and has not been charged. He was recently jailed on drug charges in Tennessee.

I know Teresa tried on numerous times to get Crystal to come back, she did it not for the reasons stated above as I was told, but because lil Con man was unhappy, she offered her all kinds of things to get her to come back. Crystal never saw Teresa for what she was-she wanted to believe TN was pure in motives (damn, almost puked typing that one) and did have feelings for Ron ONLY as the father of her children not that she had to be with him or was in love with him, more like had love for him as the children's father. I know it sounds confusing, but I know she is or was very naive and gullible even though they put her thru hell ::MonkeyNoNo::

I just hope and pray that the closer it gets to Misty's sentencing, that she will start getting scared and maybe, just maybe say something that will bust this case wide open, something needs to go ahead and happen, there's been so many times in the past that we thought things were about to happen and then......nothin.... HaLeigh needs justice!!

Personally, when I watched the video much later and Chelsea kept referring to Misty as "my sister" I knew she had been talking to the master of sway & deception (Levi P) prior to her interview  but that's JMO.  I can't stand that creep.  Not because of what he says but how he says it. 

Chelsea is going to lie thru her teeth JMO.  She may have put some good idea's together to make her story sound good bbbbuuuttt I think we got the bad guys where they need to be.  Just knowing that in some states today you get less than 15 for murder makes me feel a little better about it.  I think TC & MC are in this up to there eyeballs.  I only wish one of them would crack and tell but I won't hold my breath waiting because they can't w/out further incriminating theirselves. imo

Misty Croslin will be sentenced on one count of drug trafficking in St. Johns County. She faces nine more charges in Putnam County.

Misty was with Haleigh Cummings, 5, on the night she disappeared in February 2009.

On Friday, Misty will be sentenced on one count of trafficking in oxycodone in St. Johns County, facing a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison.

She still faces sentencing on seven counts of drug trafficking in Putnam County, where she could face up to 200 years. That hearing is set for Oct. 19.

Prosecutors said she could qualify for a reduced sentence as a youthful offender, since she was 17 at the time of the crime, which could reduce her sentence to between six and 25 years.

And just guessing, but because she was 17 might get a lighter sentence, who knows?

Lisa Croslin testified today that she was a "terrible mother." She used drugs, she said, when she was raising her daughter, and that Croslin failed seventh grade, then never returned to school.

Her mother and other family members are sitting behind her in the St. Johns County courtroom, and relatives of Haleigh Cummings are also in the courtroom.

As Misty Croslin became hysterical, her mother also said that she blackmailed her daughter for Xanax during the Haleigh investigation. She testified that she was unsure of her daughter's age, what a PTS is, and whether Misty Crosline can add.

Today Circuit Court Judge Wendy Berger is presiding; the first witness was FBI investigator Travis Smith.

Smith said Croslin told undercover agents she could get could get another 30 pills soon and that she had four sources for drugs. She also promised to buy 50 percoset, Smith said adding that she did all the calling and transactions with the FBI.

She was arrested earlier this year, along with her ex-husband and Haleigh's father Ronald Cummings. Croslin's brother Hank was also arrested for drug trafficking.

Smith said Croslin had a large network, 200 pills potentially. "That is a large amount of hydrocodone," he said.

"Why do you feel she is not innocent and she is a drug dealer?" her attorney asked.

"She had multiple sources," Smith replied. "She had the knowledge...the prices were dead on with the market rate."

ST. AUGUSTINE — Misty Croslin tearfully spoke on her own behalf in court this afternoon apologizing for getting into prescription drug dealing and how everything got out of hand after 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings vanished under her care.

IIRC Misty turned 18 in Dec. and was not arrested til 1/20/2010....so she was not a minor.. All just my opinion

18 yr old + 25 years in jail = 43 when she gets out.  The other charges will be interesting.

Misty's own Mother Lisa Crsolin testified today that she had blackmailed Misty for Xanex. What could Lisa possibly have used against Misty in order to blackmail her at all? I would venture to say that it likely involves the truth about the disappearance of Haleigh Cummings.
I sense that others are well aware of how to play this little "blackmail" game and are rather skilled at it themselves. I recall the interview of Ron with Geraldo Rivera when Mr. Rivera point blank asked if Ron was an informant:

If Misty's own Mother could so easily blackmail her then what is to stop anyone else, who may have witnessed this backmailing at this time or potentially any other incidences of the same type of behavior towards Misty, from doing the same to Misty or others involved in this case...?
And... What would happen if it were true that Ron Cummings were in fact an informant involved with cases prior to Haleigh's disappearance and what affect might Ron's level of truthfulness at this point in time have on those prior cases? How might Ron's possible guilt in the case of his missing Daughter impact other cases that may have in some form or another been reliant upon Ron's honesty?

I believe that the sentence handed down to Misty today for this one charge in this one county was appropriate based on the laws in Florida etc...

Haleigh deserved so much more.

I am afraid that this is the end of this case.  I do not think Haleigh will be found now, without more information and there is no leverage to get the info.  The thing that just grinds at me as that I do believe that Ronald knows and he will be out the soonest.  I would not be surprised if he was an informant.  Poor sweet Haliegh.

I am not sad for Misty the person she is now, I think she got what she deserved.
But my heart aches for the 12 year old that grew up way to fast when her parents kept her out of school and what ever else they may have allowed her to do. I have 5 daughters and I can not imagine any of them at 12 years old being old enough to make their own decisions. I think her mother and father should be right along with her in the prison sentence. I sincerely hope that both of them have to root around for food the rest of their lives and live in their car or become homeless. Misty is a direct result of what these two have allowed to happen.

Lenie, I agree with you.  I find this so sad.  Not sad because Misty got a twenty-five year sentence, I think she deserved it.  I'm sad to see a young person born without a chance and wasting her life.  I don't know what part she played in Hayleigh's disappearance, but I think it was a major part.  It's just that I feel sorry that people are born into this kind of life and are destined to have no life at all. 

Hayleigh seemed like such a sweet, happy little girl but she, too, was born without a chance.  I wish that people like these would stop so much reproducing.  It seems all they can do is take drugs and reproduce. 

So I'm not sorry about Misty, I'm sorry for the situation in general which produces young girls like her and knowing that they have no chance to be productive citizens.  They are never taught to aspire to anything better.  And somehow it never seems to occur to them that they can do better.

ST. AUGUSTINE — A history of abuse, neglect and repeated rape described in a St. Johns County courtroom Friday wasn’t enough to deflect a 25-year prescription drug-dealing sentence for Misty Croslin.

Croslin, 18, wept at times and wiped her eyes as she told about her parents’ drug and alcohol abuse, a history of living in campgrounds and being left alone to fend for herself with two brothers. Pregnant at 14, she ran away to New Jersey with a boyfriend but was found and brought back to Florida.

Well, at least she is locked up for a long while, It will give her a chance to think about what happened that night and about poor HaLeigh. I still believe with everything in me that she knows something and she needs to tell, she might even get some of those years cut off if she does. As it is now, she will sit there for years and years and if she thinks she will ever be able to be with Ron again she is really crazy, he will be out and about long before she is ever set free again.
  Also I think her Mother should have been locked up right then and there for the way she treated her children when they were growing up, its half her fault all this occured, if they had had a decent upbringing, Misty might not have felt the need to turn to Ronald or the drugs...Its a big mess all the way around and poor HaLeigh suffered for it all....

Yep, a new spin on things for real......if she had that baby and was made to give it away, could show cause her to act different with other children, could have messed up her mind somewhat...Id like to know more about that other child.

I do not believe for a minute that Misty was"born without a chance." Countless people go through situations more difficult than Misty's and they do not break the law nor do they show no regard for a precious 5 year old left in their care. Poverty can do many things but it does not sentence you to a life of crime ! It can be a powerful incentive to get an education and change your life for the better. I know this from personal experience. Misty threw her own life away and that is where the blame should be.
Her marriage to Ronald negates any status as a youthful offender. She became an emancipated minor when she chose to get married. At least it will be many more years before she has opportunity to hurt another child. Who knows, she may tell what she knows about the night Haleigh disappeared. The question is after all her lies, would we believe her ?

I'll tend to agree with this, but as she aged (even at 17)...she made her own choices...the wrong ones.

Jail may be a positive step in Misty's life.  She could learn to add and subtract, spell and find a vocation.

She gravitated to "make-up and hair" with Haleigh, perhaps, Misty could take a course in Jail to steer her in that

direction.  If she worked in a kitchen, that would give her more knowledge, than opening up a can of Beenie Weiners.

I believe she will survive and hopefully learn sometimes positive in jail.  Maybe she will remember what happened to HC:(

I agree with you.  Misty deserves everything she gets and more.
She had more chances in life than many successful people.

I grew up in a big mess.   I married at fifeteen ( not pregnant, just a way of life, my sister was thirteen ).  Out of five, I am the only one that made it out.  One way or another, your tax dollars are supporting the rest of them.  I made it because of an accumulation of many small words, movies, people that came my way during my life.  I have a two degrees ( social work and sociology of course ) and several certifications.  I have adopted children, birth children, worked for CPS.

My sister had five children.  Their lives make Misty's look like a day at the park.  The oldest took matters into her own hands.  At age seventeen she had her own apartment, drove a Mustang, worked full time, and graduated a year ahead of her class so she could get on with her life.   She did not do the dances, proms, etc.   She lied and finagled so no one discovered she was on her own.  She also ran interference and tried to care for her younger siblings.   She made it.  She is now an RN, has eight children to date, and has built a beautiful home large enough for her children.  She lives in a desireable community.  She breastfeeds her babies, is involved in the children's sports, music lessons, etc.
She sees things as black and white, right and wrong.  She is strict and demanding.   No middle ground for herself.  The stress will one day slow her down as it did me.  But we broke the cycle and our children are continuing without any real knowledge of the lives we lived.   We keep our children from really knowing our siblings and extended family members.

so, there is not one thing Misty could say that would cause me to give her leeway.  Living the lives we did, I can imagine what happened that night in the trailer and the minds set of those involved.  No, they do not sit around feeling bad.   Somehoe, everything is justified and minimzed.  I can remember my father saying if a drunk driver hits and kills a family, it is the families; fault.  They had no business out when they know the roads belong to the drunks after a certain time at night.  When justifying a burglary, they will bring up something that happened two generations ago.  Blaming the victim is an art, no mater what the crime and n o matter what the age.

In my opinion, there is justice.   It is highly likely everyone who could have been involved is in jail.  They will be there for a long time.  We have no idea what they will endure or if they will make it out alive.  People know and their names will forever be affiliated with the death of Haleigh.  While I do not think it  is something they will make them re pentent, it going to affect the rest of their lives one way or another.  And there will be no positive outcome for an of them.

ST. AUGUSTINE - Misty Croslin was sentenced to 25 years in prison Friday afternoon for trafficking oxycodone.

Croslin was the babysitter and - briefly - the stepmother of Haleigh Cummings, the 5-year-old South Putnam girl who disappeared from her home Feb. 10, 2009.

"You made the choice," Circuit Judge Wendy Berger told Croslin. "Now you've got to live with the choice you've made."

A full courtroom, which included family members of key players in the Haleigh Cummings case, heard testimony from Croslin, her mother Lisa Croslin, and state Department Law Enforcement Agent Travis Smith during the two-hour hearing held in the St. Johns County Courthouse.


Dressed in T-shirts with Haleigh's picture, family members of Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings, sat near Haleigh's mother, Crystal Sheffield and her family.

Across the aisle, members of Misty Croslin's family were seated in a row.

Croslin's attorney, Robert Fields, asked that the judge to consider Croslin's troubled upbringing and the influence of co-defendants Ronald Cummings, Croslin's brother Hank "Tommy" Croslin Jr. and former search volunteer Donna Brock and sentence her as a youthful offender, which carries a six-year sentence.

"She's a young child," Fields said. "She's been influenced and exploited by everyone she's come in contact with."

Misty Janette Croslin conceded from the stand that she should get some prison time for trafficking in hydrocodone, but it would have been a lot less than the 25 years she received during Friday's sentencing hearing.

She told St. Johns County Circuit Judge Wendy W. Berger that she was entitled to a break because, "I learned my lesson not to mess with drugs."

She said she wants to go back to school, get a job and have a family.

I do not (at this moment  ::MonkeyCool::) feel sorry for Misty.  She had choices, no matter how she was brought up, and she made the wrong choices, over and over.
I do think 25 years is too long for a drug charge. People commit  murders every day and get off with less than that.  I hope all these long prison sentences for drugs in Fla has a healthy dose of rehab and education thrown in,  so when they are released they can go on to make something of their lives. Even the Croslins.

And I agree with Higherhopes, Lisa should be prosecuted for the way she raised those kids, it is despicable.

I would also like to know about the father of that baby.  If she was left "to fend for herself with two brothers" I wonder if one of the me could have been the father.  It didn't say it was the boyfriends, only that she was pregnant and ran off with the boyfriend...

Just my 2 cents ::MonkeyTongue:: I DO think 25 yrs is excessive compared to murderer's, rapist and child molestors who get 10yrs or a slap on the wirst for their vile crimes, but I do think she had a part (atm  I am uncertain how much, but enough to warrant 25 yrs). That being stated Ron should have rec'd just as much due to his lengthy history of drug charges and his involvement in HaLeigh's disappearance, same with Tommy IMO. I did see Lisa testify and am shocked she is out with her history but even as low as she is she didn't dress in hooker shoes for court ::MonkeyHaHa::.

Also, I volunteered for yrs when I took a hiatus from work in 96 in the inner city Memphis at risk program for children and sadly think if even 1 of those poor kids who have lived a childhood that I compare to worse than a living hell it will be a miracle, if I could have adopted half of them I would as every day when I left I would cry and my heart was broken seeing the lives they lived and so called caregivers they answered to, one child name Otto had a brother 14 months older with the same name, the mom was so doped up on crack she thought the eldest Otto was dead.......and, they wore the same clothes to school daily, buttons missing and either too big or too small and the bulk of them lived with others who rec'd money from the state as a "foster parent" to "care" for them and if they even got a C on a report card they would be beat with belts, you name it. Several times I called DCF to report the caregivers and NOTHING happened, these were nobody's child in the eyes of the state, easier to toss them with whomever would shelter them and forget about the problem. I remember taking pumpkins the week before Halloween and asking the parents to come help carve them, not ONE helped and when the kids helped me unload the pumpkins, they asked me "are these real pumpkins".......I had to choke back the tears so they wouldn't see, and some of the kids were 12 yrs old and had never seen a pumpkin. I also took hot chocolate and marshmellows to the kids in winter and none used the marshmellows, I finally asked if they didn't like them and every one of them told me they didn't know what a marshmellow was. Needless to say it was a very draining time on my spirit because I NEVER knew the reality I lived 20 miles from, and not a damn thing I could do to change it......

More than anythin I pray one day these POS drug heads in prison will one day grow a set and tell what happened, but I am not holding my breath, but she deserves to be found, and those that don't know deserve to know what happened to her, maybe not the gruesome details but at least they might find a shred of peace knowing that she is not out there scared, sick, being abused......I couldn't even function to be honest with those questions hanging in my head, and it's time to put an end to this and bring her home finally.

The last victim of PCSO’s drug sting, an almost unrecognizable Misty Croslin, gets sentenced to 25 years on a charge of trafficking oxycodone in St. Johns County; because of ineffective counsel, but mostly for being just plain stupid. After being foolish enough to have plead no contest, did anyone really expect any other outcome?

Robert Fields to Misty’s detriment is no Jose Baez.
One can only wonder why Misty Croslin’s attorney, Robert Fields, was in court at all since he is not making any money. I ask: Does Robert Fields have a retirement plan with the prosecution; since he might as well be working for them. All Fields has done all along is metaphorically hold Misty’s hand, sympathize with her, and tried to convince her that he has worked very hard to get her off, but that it was just the big bad criminal justice system that finally had done her in. That is total nonsense. No well-financed drug criminal with any smarts at all will ever hire Fields, after this outcome. Fields counseling someone to plead no contest without a legally binding proffer agreement in place offered just plain bad advice that was tantamount to legal suicide, and Fields knew it all along, in my humble opinion.

Well, Misty still has several drug counts to go. Maybe if they swack her hard on the first count, she will sing to get the rest of the counts reduced. This judge is sending a message to all. She's chubbing up from nonmovement and comissary junk food.  The fat is filling in her jowls down to her neck and her cheeks and nose filled in plus the camera did no help either, IMO.  Yeah, unfortunately she did look better on drugs.  You can stay high all the time and forget to eat cause you would rather get high than eat!  Dumb azz girl!  She has more sentencing to come, right? 

Do you remember back in the beginning when there were post of misty's myspace ppage seems like someone had posted a link to some photo bucket photos of misty and her ex boyfriend before Ron and she had photos on there that made me think she had a baby or was pregnant.  But I cant find it on here.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Tonight gut-wrenching emotion and tearful testimony in a Florida courtroom as Misty Croslin gets sent to the slammer for at least 25 years.

Back in August Misty pleaded no contest to drug trafficking charges, but Friday no amount of pleading, begging and crying would save her from spending the next quarter century behind bars.

Misty said she was sorry for getting into prescription drug dealing and claimed that things spiraled out of control after 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings vanished. Misty, of course, was baby-sitting for Haleigh when the little girl went missing a year and a half ago. How much does Misty know about what really happened that night?

She has told a slew of stories but none has led cops to Haleigh. Will the prospect of an even longer prison term put pressure on Misty to crack before her next court hearing? Misty broke down when her mother took the stand. Listen to this.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: On a scale of one to ten, ten being the best, how would you rate yourself as a mother to those children?

L. CROSLIN: Not a good one.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Maybe a two or three? Do you know what PTA stands for?

L. CROSLIN: No, sir.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Did you ever participate in anything at the schools?

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Wow. What do you think of this dramatic development? Call me, 1-877-JVM-SAYS. Straight out to my fantastic panel; we begin with Art Harris, investigative reporter.

All right. We go from this tough girl to a girl who is sobbing uncontrollably in court looking at a quarter of a century behind bars. But that was sentenced on one count. Art, it wasn`t on all of the counts. Now they can really put the squeeze on her between now and her next hearing.

ART HARRIS, INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALIST: That`s right.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Lay it out for us. What are they going to do?

HARRIS: She -- she`s got eight days, Jane, to decide what if anything else she is going to say since I last was on your show and reported she has told law enforcement that Tommy took Haleigh out of the trailer. She has changed her story yet again and says she was sleeping and that she believes Tommy unlocked the trailer once earlier in the night and came back later to get Haleigh or let somebody else in. She is a little vague.

So now they`ve got eight days. She has eight days to come up with something. And that is what they`re leaning on. I can tell you that one of my sources at law enforcement in the car on the way to one of the hearings said, Misty, just take us to the body. She said I don`t know where the body is.

But they think she does. She knows more than she is telling, Jane, and -- and that is the strategy, to keep the pressure on.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: My, has this girl changed. I mean, she went from being a skinny, skinny girl who looked like she was 12 when she was 17 to now look at her at 18. It`s an unbelievable transformation. And I don`t think for the better, tragically.

Here is my big issue. Break down or breakthrough? Is Misty getting a sense finally of the gravity of her situation, that basically her whole life is being destroyed? Misty`s initial defiance seemed like a point of pride -- nobody is going to break me. Has she now surrendered to the truth of her predicament and will she break through and finally tell the truth?

Levi Page, what do you think?

LEVI PAGE, CRIME BLOGGER & INTERNET RADIO HOST: We can only hope that Misty Croslin will crack and tell exactly what happened to Haleigh Cummings because her story never added up from the very beginning of this case. She`s failed multiple polygraphs, she`s failed the layer voice analysis, hypnosis revealed that she was hiding something. She knows what happened but I got to tell you I think that she was -- one of the low -- lower on the totem poles in this case because I think what they`re trying to do, they`ve always said she is the key. They did not say she is the main one.

And who would she be covering for? Hum. Maybe it`s Ronald Cummings, the statutory rapist who likes underage girls so he can control them. And he got a plea deal and I think what they were going to do with that plea deal is get Misty nervous. What`s Ronald saying now, Misty? Maybe you better rat him out before it`s too late.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Yes let me just say this. Let me just say this --

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Ron`s -- Ron`s attorney is always invited on the show to tell his side of the story.

On Friday here on ISSUES, Art Harris, you stated that Misty is now pointing the finger at her brother Tommy but Chelsea Croslin said that`s not true and you guys got into a heated debate. Let`s recap.

HARRIS: Two weeks ago I reported at Art Harris.com that she did give up some information she had never revealed before. Whether it`s true or not --

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Like what?

HARRIS: -- she said her brother Tommy was the one who took Haleigh from the trailer.

CHELSEA CROSLIN, MISTY CROSLIN`S COUSIN: That`s a lie, Art. She never said that.

HARRIS: She said --

C. CROSLIN: Law enforcement told us all we did it, Art Harris. Law enforcement told us all we did it.

HARRIS: That`s right.

C. CROSLIN: They say everything and anything they can to get you to try and say whatever you want. They tried to tell me I did it.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: But I -- I think, Art, that what you`re saying makes sense on one level. It`s far more logical for Misty to cover up for her brother Tommy as opposed to covering up for let`s say Cousin Joe, who she`s also implicated.

HARRIS: That`s right.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: So Misty has repeatedly claimed Tommy was just acting as an assistant to Cousin Joe. But could she now be sort of inching toward the truth?

HARRIS: That`s right, Jane. And in fact that`s what law enforcement is entertaining that there are so many combinations possible here: Misty and Tommy; Misty and Ron; Misty, Tommy and Ron; Misty, Tommy, Chelsea and Timmy. I mean they don`t know who could have helped clean this mess up.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: More on the other side of the break.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Did anything significant happen to you in the 7th grade that caused you to miss school?

M. CROSLIN: I was raped.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Were you ever raped otherwise? How many other different people?

M. CROSLIN: Two.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: A shocking, heart-wrenching, emotional testimony from Misty Croslin when she took the stand this past Friday. Misty was trying to get the judge to go easy on her, but it didn`t work. She got socked with a harsh 25 year sentence and there she is crying -- crying.

And there`s more to come, more sentencing. In just about a week -- look at her. We`re very honored to have Chelsea Croslin, Misty Croslin`s sister-in-law joining us tonight as we see now the video of this girl, 18 years old, seeing her life really destroyed. What is going on in your heart, as somebody who cares for her?

C. CROSLIN: It`s just -- it`s so hard for us, because for one, she`s just been sentenced to the 25, she has many more charges to come. We know she`s going to get a lot more time than that.

Misty as being a first time offender, never having any interaction with police, we know this is a squeeze on her for Haleigh but it`s way too harsh for what she has done.

Nobody -- there`s somebody in Putnam County that was caught with 200 pills and they got sentenced to five years just recently. I was researching people in Putnam County and I found that out. That`s ridiculous for Misty to get so long in jail. It`s so hard because we`re just losing her.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: I think you`re right, Chelsea, I think they`re trying to put the squeeze on her. She has something like eight days to say something before her next hearing. What would you tell Misty right now, you have eight days Misty, what would you tell her to do?

C. CROSLIN: If I can get into a room with Misty where me and Misty could sit down and I could talk, I believe that I could get whatever it was out of her. I believe that she would tell me what she was hiding, because she does only have eight days and she knows she`s about to lose her whole life.

I believe I could use my daughter as lenience (ph) toward her, because of Misty`s bond with her. And I don`t know -- I can try just as much as anybody else has. But if I could get in with her, and I could talk with her, and try to tell her to tell the truth, face to face. I might make a difference. On the phone, she told me, I want to tell you but I can`t -- she knows she`s recorded.

So that`s -- I think I could get it out of her, I just -- I can`t get to her. Unfortunately I`m unstable financially with my family enough as it is, I can`t go back to Florida right now over the next eight days.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Now, Art Harris says that she`s now implicating her brother Tommy. You disagree with that, why do you disagree with that?

C. CROSLIN: Because Art Harris is full of crap. Misty`s never once said that Tommy`s the one who did anything to Haleigh. If anything, Misty has said her brother was there that night; her brother did take Haleigh out of the house with Joe. But never said she took her out of the house herself. Misty on her phone call the other night with me told me the whole Joe and Tommy story was a lie when I was yelling at her. She said they keep making me say it. I don`t know who they are. I don`t know if it`s another twist and turn for her story.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: And we must state that Joe is not being called a suspect.

HARRIS: Jane I can tell you that she`s let Joe off the hook but she says --

VELEZ-MITCHELL: We`re out of time. We`re going to stay on top of this one, you know that.

HARRIS: -- she says Tommy knows everything.

It's evident that neither Misty, Tommy, or even Ron care about what happened to Haleigh. It's all about saving their own tail. Hopefully this prison time will make them develop a conscious so that one day we all find out where little Haleigh lays.

Much is going on in our cirty.  I am wore out from everyone making excuses as to the high crme, the murder rate, etc.  I am reverting to seeing things as black and white with about ten persent grey. We are responsible for our choices.  If my five year old is dancing in his chair and breaks a bowl, he did it.  I'm not going to punish, but he knows the bowl is broken ONLY as a result of his actions ( this has really happened ).

Oh my gosh Bearly, too funny!  You are so right!  It amazes me how many flunkies can't read, write, spell, hold a job, etc., but good golly you best not cheat them one pill cause those nuts can count their drugs.  They can figure out how to scam money, gather it up, get to several doctors, use multiple pharmacies but they can't get and hold on to a job.  Pure BS!  As a Mother who had to use Medicaid when my Son was born a premie and my insurance on him capped, I would've submitted to a drug test as one of our FL politicians is proposing for those on welfare.  Some of these druggies are getting their drugs filled via FL Medicaid (filled for free and then selling them) and it burns my arse!  I also thought that when Misty started to see she wasn't going to get light sentences and Ron would be out wayyyy before her, that she might just start talking.  But I don't know what is up with this girl.  I really, really, wish someone influential to her would befriend her and tell her the truth about what is happening.  I don't think she realizes that if she would just tell the truth that it might help her get out of jail quick!  I know she has her hand in it somehow but if she'd just let them know something she may get a real life one day!  Give her a way out!  She doesn't have a soul around her smart enough to help her.

I think she had problems to begin with and her brain is fried from the drugs.  She needs mega counseling and I cannot believe she did not get help after being raped so young.  Her parents were druggies and should have been fixed like the animals they acted like.  This girl did not have a chance, but she still does not have a conscience and should not be out anytime soon.  I get so angry when people say drugs are a victimless crime.  Tell that to Haleigh.

Good afternoon!  I really want more justice for this child and keep coming back to this thread everyday.  In fact, it is in my favorites so I can click directly here.  But the lack of any real human emotion on the part of the key players makes my blood boil  ::MonkeyMad:: so I should stop torturing myself.

I married at age 15.  Just a part of our lives.  I left school in the 8th grade, passed the G.E.D. went on to a B.A in sociology and then mid way through a masters of social work at THE OHIO STATE UNIVESITY ( whatever!).  I quit the MSW program because of my demanding job and the need to see my children before they grew up and left home  ::MonkeyHaHa:: ::MonkeyHaHa::

My ex husband had a RURAL Kentucky education to the 8th grade.  When we married he could read words but not understand context.  He wanted to be a carpenter and his only goal was to learn to read blueprints.  He has had his own company for thirty plus years now, own beautiful homes in Ohio and Ky, and his wife never has to work. 

Thus, questionable DNA, poor family life and education, sleeping in our car, etc. was only a reason to get better.  Sinking to lower levels was not an option....the status quo was not an option.  Here we are in our fifties and the status quo is still not an option.

We have close family that chose differently.  They know the "pipeline" from Ohio to Florida.  It's a normal activity.

From their own mouths;
You need several hundred dollars cash.  You take the two day trip to Florida, hit the doctors offices paying with cash. They prescribed large amounts of the pain pills that must be filled in Florida, again, for cash. Then back home. The pills are for personal use but they sell to recoup their investments etc.  These are road trips to them.

If you have ever seen the show "intervention", one of the families was highlighted.   What a joke...they were there to intervene for one person while the entire family was involved one way or another.  It is a lifestyle that is well known and I do not see anyone cracking down on these drug mills in Florida. 

We have them here in Columbus as well,with a pipeline from KY to Ohio.  You can count the out of state tags at these well known places and even watch deals in the parking lots.  The amount of money that can be made is ludicrous'  they can make more money having fun than I can make full time on a county job ( pay was good ).  but they sure do not live like they have access to that kind of money.

I guess it just all makes me crazy.  It is not just the drug use or dealing...it is the horrendous life that traps the children. 

There are so many little Haleigh's we do not read about, and so many people with the same mind sets as the Croslins and Cummins.  Have you seen any REAL tears from the Croslin clan concerning Haleigh?  It is all Lip service and show.  They like being the center of attention and they only cry for theirselves.

Sentencing On Putnam County Charges Delayed

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- Misty Croslin won’t be sentenced on charges in Putnam County until 2011, but the last person to see Haleigh Cummings won’t be going far in the mean time.

Croslin was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Oct. 8 on one count of drug trafficking in St. Johns County.

She faces nine charges in Putnam county.

A sentencing hearing was supposed to be held on Oct. 19 on one of the drug trafficking charges, but the sentencing has been moved to Jan. 10, officials said on Friday.

Misty was with Haleigh Cummings, 5, on the night she disappeared in February 2009. Haleigh has not been seen since.

Recently, Croslin reportedly told investigators she heard Haleigh Cummings being attacked before she vanished.

Croslin, who was the girlfriend of Haleigh's father, Ronald, at the time, was arrested with the child's father in a drug sting.

Ronald has also been sentenced to 15 years on similar drug charges.

Misty Croslin’s sentencing on drug trafficking charges in Putnam County, scheduled to take place next week, has been rescheduled until early next year.

Croslin, the 18-year-old Putnam County woman who was with 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings when she was reported missing in 2008, was sentenced to 25 years in prison on a single count of drug trafficking in St. Johns County earlier this month and is awaiting sentencing on seven counts in Putnam.

On Friday, the State Attorney’s Office announced the hearing was moved to 1:30 p.m. Jan. 10.

Good evening to you my dear!  I can't find ONE wrong word in your post!  You are a true inspiration!  I know several people who wanted to make better than they came from and had the drive to succeed.  Some did and some didn't.  The lure of the 'easy' life kept them down, you know the one you don't have to work for and can feel good about yourself for!  Florida is trying to come down on these pill mills...several now won't let out of towners in but a lot still do.  Supposedly one of the new rules for next year is people who pay cash for all these pills will only recieve a 72hr Rx.  Now, in the beginning it was only for docs that dispensed in their office but now may extend to all.  The new OxyContin had really floored the real dopers and the Roxicodone has a limit on it somewhat.  We will see Terri.  When someone wants drugs they will find a way to get them and abuse them.  Yes, I agree poor HaLeigh was destined to become just like the rest of them.  She would have known no better unless something in her had the will and drive to "get out" of her situation.  I know I'm a rare one and I thank God I didn't know about drug abuse, divorce and unstability as a child.  What I do know I will share another day....!  Proud of you and your ex, Terri.  Thank you for not allowing yourself to be another statistic!

Thanks for confirming what I always suspected, Terri: An 8th grade education in Kentucky is roughly equivalent to a college degree in other states. ;-)

I don't think she will be transfered to prison until after she has been sentenced in Putnam Co. I think something is up. They have kept Tommy in St.John when there is no reason to, that we know of. Something up in Florida. I hope the truth will come out, finally.

Thank you, I knew that 4 donks.  And I saw the smiley in her post.  But others might not understand, and in the past there have been some from Ky and other states that were upset by similar comments.  That's why I put  ::MonkeyEek:: .  Even by someone from the home state and with a winky, it might be a slur to some.  If sailcat hadn't been from KY, there would have been a big red moderator's remark. 

Beautiful pic above...I was noticing her teeth, for drug addicts she sure has very nice teeth.  I'm glad they at least did one thing right for her.  I doubt seriously they took her to the dentist, you never know.  A child gone into thin air and not one single person cares enough to speak up, such a tragedy!

Break in the Haleigh Cummings case?



Recently Misty Croslin, the last person to see missing child Haleigh Cummings alive was sentenced to 25-years in prison for drug trafficking. Croslin was busted along with her brother Tommy Croslin and her ex-husband Ronald Cummings - who is the father of Haleigh.


Ronald Cummings was sentenced to 15-years for drug trafficking after snagging a plea deal. In exchange for a deal, Cummings gave up new information that he had been withholding from the police. Art Harris reported on "Issues with Jane Velez-Mitchell" that Cummings gave up information concerning a timeline, and information on various players involved in the case.

Now just before Misty Croslin faces a judge in Putnam County Florida, to learn her fate for drug trafficking in that jurisdiction, we learn that the sentencing has been delayed for 3 months. Croslin faces basically the rest of her life in prison.

Why the delay?

In my opinion, Croslin has given investigators new information in the case and authorities need time to make sure the information she has given them is correct before they give her a deal.

I hate to get too excited, but I am so hoping Misty is giving new info.  I cannot for the life of me understand why she would not have "saved herself" long ago.  I CANNOT buy Chelsea's assertion that Ron has Misty in his control and she is willing to give up her entire life to cover for him.  I also cannot understand how she would think Ron cared one iota for her once he agreed to testify against her.

I so totally agree with you.  I am thinking she has only two ways of the truth coming out;

1)  she has physical evidence that cannot be disputed ( at this point, how much evidence would that require? )

2)  the actual perp tell one hundred percent of the truth.  If they tried to hedge or downplay the severity, we could not take them 100% at their word.
Barring a miracle, the truth will be told amongst family only...Haliegh's justice is that they are not on the street enjoying life.

It is so ironic I found this site when I saw my first few NG shows.  At the time she was doing the Trenton case and I really liked her style...I did not know it was theatrical or in my mind, exploitative.   Then, when Caylee disappeared NG was a staple in my home.  I soon figured out this was not for me.  So,  now I check in with NG rarely.


I worked for CPS;  same experiences you have described.  There are a few cases that will be with me till the end. 

I lived in Eastern Ky. along the Tug river separating KY from WVa.  Now, I am looking at Adair County, Columbia Ky.  With what is happening in my area, I want my boys "back on the farm".

I am thinking that regardless of the fairness, Misty ( or the others involved ) have no reason to be out of prison.  If they cannot change then to think about the fairness of thestiff sentences is a mute point.  In truth, the only reason I give Misty any thought is in the HOPES she will finally bring peace to this family.

I agree with you about Nancy Grace. I used to really admire her and never missed her show. But she's become so over-the-top, theatrical, and rude that I can't handle it any more. And as a father, it really disturbs me to see how she uses her children as props.

I know what you mean about raising the kids "down on the farm." Our children grew up in the middle of nowhere and I believe it was a positive environment for them.

I also agree with your sentiments about Misty. I had my own issues with addiction - long before it became "fashionable" - and I firmly believe that incarceration is not the ultimate answer to the problem. But in this case - which involves trafficking as well as a complete disregard for the welfare of children - I say lock 'em up and throw away the key. I do hope that enough pressure is applied that someone will decide to tell the truth about that poor little baby and bring some sort of relief to those who really loved her.

Well, I know I am not a huge contribution to this thread, but I do know that Ronald (no matter his probs/incarceration on drugs, etc.) does NOT know where the girl is.....NOW. He is NOT an innocent in the matter that should reflect my posts, as he did leave the children with MISTY and my prior posts reflect that, but he did not kill her NOR does he know where her body is. PERIOD. IMO.

Sounds like a form of appeal to me.

Missing 17-Month Old in Interlachen

   
(Interlachen)- Putnam County Sheriff's deputies are searching a small pond in Interlachen for a 17 month old boy.

Lt. Johnny Greenwood says that the boy was being supervised by his mother early this evening when he disappeared. Deputies responded around 6:18pm, about 20 minutes after the child vanished.

Deputies are currently searching wooded areas around the house at 846 Cousintown Road and the PCSO dive team is searching a small pond on the property.

Alachua County's helicopter and bloodhounds are also being used.

Specialists from Alachua and Marion counties were assisting in the search for a toddler who disappeared from the yard of his Putnam County home Wednesday evening.

According to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, the 17-month-old boy was reported missing from his family's home at 846 Cousintown Road at 6:18 p.m. The child's mother told officials he had been playing in the yard and was missing for about 20 minutes before deputies were called.

A search for the child was being conducted in wooded areas around the home by deputies. Members of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office Dive Team were called in to search a small pond. A helicopter from the Joint Aviation Unit of the Alachua County Sheriff's Office and Gainesville Police Department, as well as bloodhounds from Lowell Correctional Institution in Marion County, also were assisting in the search late Wednesday.

Putnam County became the focus of intense scrutiny on Feb. 2, 2009, when another child was reported missing. Haleigh Cummings was 5-years-old when she disappeared from her father's home in the Hermit's Cove area. She has not been seen since, despite intensive searches.

INTERLACHEN - Screams of anguish pierced the night Wednesday after a young boy's body was found in a pond.

A diver from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office discovered the body about 9:40 p.m., some three hours after 16-month-old Clayton Neil Smith was reported missing.

The call to 911 triggered a massive search involving nearly 60 officers who used a helicopter, tracking dogs and their eyes and hands. Neighbors eager to help carried camping lanterns and flashlights as they scoured woods across the street.

Clayton would have turned 17 months old today.

"Oh God, no!" yelled a man who was standing not far from the search command post on Cousintown Road, south of Interlachen. "No!"

Also, a woman screamed "Let me see my baby" as she was led crying into a neighbor's house.

The recovery of the body changed the sheriff's office work from the search for a missing child to the investigation of an unattended death, said Maj. Gary Bowling, director of law enforcement for the agency.

"It appears to be an accidental drowning," Bowling said.

The toddler's body was found in shallow water about six or seven feet from the bank, Bowling said.

Divers had been methodically checking the pond for nearly 90 minutes, starting at the bank closest to the child's home on Cousintown Road south of Interlachen.

Authorities also utilized leads from an Alachua County Sheriff's Office helicopter equipped with sophisticated heat-seeking gear. As the helicopter circled, deputies on the ground were given coordinates of spots to check not far from the boy's house.

The careful and deliberate effort was unsuccessful, however, and the helicopter left about an hour later.

The sheriff's office response was significant, with dozens of deputies on the dusty dirt road off County Road 315 within a half-hour and the detailed protocol for a lost-or-abducted child was implemented.

Several deputies were involved in training Wednesday night and reassigned to West Putnam, Bowling said.

"We called everybody out of training to the scene," he said.

Other agencies also rushed to help, including the state Department of Corrections, which sent officers and bloodhounds from the Lowell Correctional Institute.

Authorities were first called at 6:18 p.m. and told Clayton, who was last seen playing in the yard, had been missing about 20 minutes.

The sheriff's office used its computer system to call homes in the area and alert residents that a child was missing.

Trailer-mounted spotlights had just been brought to search area and set up when the body was found.

The investigation was expected to continue today, Bowling said.

Task Force Dismantles Palatka Gang
3 Gang Members Arrested In Dealing Illegal Narcotics

PALATKA, Fla. -- Three Palatka gang members have been arrested following a two-year investigation into illegal narcotics distribution activities by the "23rd Street" gang, as was announced Wednesday by the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Tri-County Narcotics Task Force, the Palatka Police Department, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

According to investigators, the gang members were involved in distributing large quantities of pharmaceutical Roxicodone pills on a monthly basis in the Putnam County area. Investigators said the drug activities are believed to be the primary source of income for the criminal street gang.

Alton Clark, 22, was charged with criminal racketeering, conspiracy to commit racketeering, three counts of trafficking in oxycodone and four counts of sale of a controlled substance.

Devon Edwards, 24, was charged with criminal racketeering, conspiracy to commit racketeering, six counts of trafficking in oxycodone and three counts of sale of a controlled substance.

Saquan Moore, 28, was charged with criminal racketeering, conspiracy to commit racketeering, two counts of trafficking in oxycodone and one count of sale of a controlled substance.

Investigators said the three men comprised the leadership of the gang and are each being held on bond set at more than $2 million. Clark and Edwards were arrested Wednesday in Lauderhill and booked into the Broward County Jail, while Moore was arrested at a Putnam County home and booked into the Putnam County Jail.

"This is the first Racketeering Influenced Corrupt Organization case in the history of the Palatka Police Department," Palatka Police Chief Gary Getchel said in a news release.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
