Last month, discovery documents revealed that another Equusearch volunteer told investigators Buchanan may have falsified her search documents.

In another big development, Casey Anthony’s defense team will get to do their own examination of some of the state's evidence against their client. Bug expert Timothy Huntington will get to look at the coffin flies which prosecutors say were found in the trunk of Casey's car, along with larvae from a trash bag and paper towels also found in the truck of the car.

Another defense expert will get to examine a hair found in the trunk of Casey's car which prosecutors say came from a dead body.

Prosecutors have scheduled depositions with Roy Kronk and Brandon Sparks. Sparks told Casey's defense team that Kronk told him, weeks before finding Caylee, to watch the news, because he'd seen her skull and knew where the missing two year old was.

We got there just as school was getting out. So street was very busy. I just stood there and cried. To see how close Caylee was to home but how close she was to the street. It was like all Casey did was pull her car over and open the trunk and take a couple steps and toss her. It really was that close to the street. Went by the evil house. I don't think the A's live there anymore. The yard was cut but the flag is the same as it's been since the beginning and the decoration on the door. It looked like the bedroom windows had plastic containers in front of them. All the neighbors had Halloween stuff out. I really think they might have saved the house but they aren't living there. The house is very little and the street is very narrow. I don't think two cars can pass each other at the same time.

when I was down in Orlando back in Jan. 2009, we went over to Caylee's Memorial, and then down Hopespring Drive, stopped for a few minutes, and George kept peeking out the side window of the front door.....I guess you had to be there, but it was quite comical (for me)...but creepy to my mother. George looked like he was playing peek-a-boo....

maybe they're on another cruise....

Morning Monkeys,

Sunny I went to download pictures of A's house and for some reason I lost them. grrrrrrrrrrr.  I have the pictures of where Caylee was found but not the house. The three pictures are from the wooded fence to the left. The street was so so busy with parents picking up children I couldn't get a picture of the distant from the edge of the road to where the trees and bushes started.

The A's house had an empty look to it. While everybody on the street had Halloween decorations up and things in the yard the A's had nothing but the same faded spring flag out and wreath on the door. The two front windows looked like they had plastic containers stacked in front of them. They could have been very wide plastic blinds. But the width was about 7 to 8 inches.  So I don't know if they are living there or not. But both hubs and I had the same feeling like the house isn't being lived in.

I wish I hadn't lost the pictures. Up right next to the front door was some kind of plague or notice. If they are living somewhere else I would think all the neighbors are happy to have them gone. Our niece and husband came to see us when we were there. When nephew stated talking about his job I got all excited until I realized he worked for Kissimmee water department not Orlando. Was all set to ask if he knew Kronk.  ::MonkeyHaHa:: The family things I'm nuts any way.

A Grim Anniversary for Casey Anthony

Two years ago today, the Grand Jury in Orlando handed down an indictment  charging Casey Anthony with the first degree murder charge of her young daughter, Caylee Anthony.  It is now about two years and four months since anyone saw little Caylee alive.

By the time this case goes to trial in May 2011, Caylee will have been dead longer than she was alive.

It doesn't seem right, does it?

Meter Reader's Son To Be Deposed In Casey Case

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Details in the case against Casey Anthony were released Thursday. There are two more depositions scheduled by prosecutors.

On October 28, they'll question the son of meter reader Roy Kronk, who found Caylee's remains.

Kronk's son, Brandon Sparks, told Casey's lawyers that his father claimed in November of 2008, he knew where Caylee was.

Prosecutors will also depose defense witness, John samples, later this month.

Any word on when they'll be rescheduling LB's depo?
I'd like to see a doctor's note.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Thursday marks two years since Casey Anthony was indicted for first degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee Anthony. Anthony has been locked up without bond since then.

Anthony remains in a protective custody cell 23 hours each day. Her confinement in the 7-foot by 12-foot cell is costing taxpayers well over $30,000 per year.

“I don't think Casey Anthony has it good by any means,” said Orlando defense attorney Richard Hornsby.


Hornsby is not connected to the Anthony case, but does have a client in the same wing. He said he saw her in a classroom near her cell about a month ago.

“She was leaning back with her feet on a chair next to her and she was watching a soap opera on the TV,” Hornsby said.

According to Hornsby, women in protective custody often talk to one another.

“All the cells are made of metal so everything echoes,” he said. “You hear people whispering especially when they're not supposed to be talking loud back and forth."

Anthony has been behind bars for 730 consecutive days. Jail officials say the cost of feeding, housing and guarding her is about $92 per day, meaning her incarceration has cost taxpayers more than $67,000.

Corrections officials said cost figures that are not yet in for the past year will push the figure even higher.

As of now, she is the 40th longest serving inmate in the Orange County Jail. The jail houses more than 3,600 inmates.

"Casey Anthony has been very cooperative with officers and staff and is not considered to be a problem inmate,” a corrections spokesman said in a statement.

Anthony’s murder trial is not expected to begin until May.

If she is convicted and sentenced to death, Anthony would be moved to women’s death row at Lowell Correctional Institution in Ocala.

ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - The trunk of Casey Anthony’s Pontiac Sunfire has been carefully inspected by a team of expert witnesses. They also combed over a bag of trash, loaded with tiny little bugs called coffin flies, empty soda cans, a dirty pizza box and broken hangers.

Casey Anthony’s defense team arrived just after 9 a.m. on Wednesday and left just three and a half hours later around 12:30 in the afternoon.
Anthony attorneys Jose Baez and Cheney mason spent a second morning at the orange county sheriff’s office with the five forensic experts.

Still, not one of them would tell us exactly what they are focusing on, which could include any number of articles documented in hundreds upon hundreds of files -- possible evidence in the murder of Caylee Anthony.

“We collected from the list and property sheets what we felt was important to both the states case and ours,” said Baez.
On Wednesday, the team concentrated on evidence which deputies collected from the Pontiac Sunfire. The lead detective on the case said it smelled like there had been a dead body in the trunk.

Investigators tested several stains in the trunk for proof. They also tested the bag of garbage.

Discovery documents released by prosecutors revealed the state's entomologist found "coffin flies" in the vehicle, which breed in human corpses.

Before Wednesday’s visit by defense experts, Baez and dr. Henry lee were the only two team members to have inspected the Pontiac. Now, DNA experts from Europe, as well as an entomologist have had an opportunity to look at the evidence.

“Anytime you get a chance to inspect something you’ve never seen before, only in photographs, it’s a completely different way of looking at things,” said Baez. “Sometimes you pick up on things that are missed and lost sometimes. It’s a lot clearer.”

In other developments, lawyers will grill Casey Anthony’s big brother, lee, and her mother, Cindy, on Thursday. They will focus on a 911 call that started the search for little Caylee.

“There's something wrong. I found my daughter's car today, and it smells like there's been a dead body in the damn car,” Cindy Anthony is heard telling a 911 operator during a phone call placed in July of 2008.

Cindy later said that the odor could have been from rotting pizza. Lawyers for the state want Cindy to clarify herself again. They contend that her statement was an excited utterance and should be admissible in court. The defense wants the entire 911 call tossed out, saying it amounts to hearsay and not fact.
This will also be the first time since October of 2008 -- when Casey was arrested -- that George, Cindy, Lee and Casey will be in the same room. Cindy will be face-to-face with her own daughter as she is testifying, answering questions from the state and the defense.

“Like anyone that's going to testify in a courtroom, she’s a little bit nervous about that,” said Cindy Anthony’s attorney Brad Conway, “but you’ve got to remember she has already given a deposition, has talked about this on numerous occasions with numerous people, so she’s ready to go in and tell the truth tomorrow.”

After Cindy Anthony testifies in court, the judge is expected to make a decision on the admissibility of the 911 recordings and should rule on Thursday.

Anthony's murder trial is set to begin on May 9, 2011. She remains jailed on a charge of first-degree murder in the death of her daughter Caylee who was last seen in June of 2008, but she was not reported missing until a month later. Her remains were found in woods near the family's home on December 11, 2008. Investigators say the toddler's body was found with duct tape over her mouth.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Three findings buried deep in the trove of forensic evidence could be the link between Casey Anthony and her daughter's remains in the woods, a source said Tuesday.

In a report from the so-called "body farm" in Tennessee, Dr. Arpad Vass found a substance called "adipocere," which is commonly referred to as "grave wax" on paper towels recovered from a trash bag inside Anthony's car trunk. That dark, flaky substance he said comes from decomposing fatty tissues in humans and pigs.

In a more recent report, entomologist Neil Haskell found coffin flies on the paper towels and inside Anthony's car trunk. He concluded someone wiped up decomposition fluids in the trunk.

Anthony's attorney Jose Baez, said, "I've got four lawyers who are dying to cross-examine him."

The source within the investigation also points out an FBI lab finding that hairs recovered from Caylee Anthony's skull and to the single strand with the so-called death band recovered from the trunk.

The FBI report said they exhibit the "the same microscopic characteristics" and are "consistent with originating from the same source."

While that FBI report states the hairs do not constitute a basis for absolute personal identification, it can be argued the hair from a dead body inside Anthony's trunk matches strands from Caylee's skull.

Haskell also concluded that from the colonization of coffin flies at the scene, Caylee's remains were dumped there as early as late June. Combine that with evidence of "grave wax" from the towels and matching hairs from the scene and trunk, it appears to be a forensic trail leading right back to Casey Anthony, the source said.

Baez has declined to discuss these forensic issues specifically. His team has mentioned that the duct tape found on Caylee's skull was contaminated and contained a hair that did not belong to Caylee or Casey Anthony.

Anthony is in Orange County Jail on a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the death of her daughter Caylee, whose remains were found in Orange County woods in December 2008.

Zenaida Gonzalez's Attorneys Ask For Trial Date

Attorneys for the woman suing Casey Anthony for defamation are asking the judge to set a trial date.

In a notice filed on Tuesday, attorneys for Zenaida Gonzalez said they are ready to take their case to trial. John Morgan said he expects the trial to last five days.

Gonzalez said Casey Anthony ruined her good name and reputation by claiming someone named Zenaida Gonzalez kidnapped her daughter, Caylee.

Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter.

What a crazy mess this case is, a poor forsaken child betrayed by all those that should have loved and protected her. To mark the second anniversary of Casey Anthony’s indictment, WESH-Ch. 2 on Thursday tabulated the costs of her confinement for 730 straight days.

Housing Anthony at the Orange County Jail costs more than $30,000 a year, WESH’s Bob Kealing reported. He put the overall cost so far at $67,000. She is the 40th longest-serving inmate of 3,657 in the jail complex, Kealing added.

Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee. The trial is scheduled to start in May.

A jail spokesman described Anthony as a cooperative inmate. She spends 23 hours of every day isolated in her jail cell, but Orlando defense attorney Richard Hornsby recently saw her in a jail classroom watching a soap opera. That was a stroke of luck for WESH, which draws on Hornsby for legal analysis of the case. Hornsby said, “I don’t think Casey Anthony has it good by any means.”

WESH and WFTV-Ch. 9 reported that the son of Roy Kronk, the meter reader who found Caylee’s remains, will be deposed via Skype on Oct. 28. The son lives in Washington state.

I just left Haleigh's thread fuming and come here and get the laugh of the week!  You are more creative than my five year old trying to get out of something....sadly Casey and her team might grab that theory and run with it....poor Casey was only doing what needed to be done to protect herself and family performing these seemingly strange rituals that actually make sense if we would just have an o pen mind.


Can anyone tell me how the  situation with Kronk is being addressed?  Did he actually say he had found Caylee before she was found?  How has this been explained.  I had  not taken it seriously before now.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Casey Anthony’s driver’s license has officially been suspended for non-payment fines.

According to court records, Anthony owes $381 as a result of her guilty plea in January to theft charges. A court sent the amount this week again to a collection agency.

The county often suspends driver’s licenses of those who don’t pay court costs and fines.
For the past two years, Anthony has been jailed without bond on charges of murdering her daughter, Caylee Anthony.

I agree!!! the truth is too overwhelming for them to deal with!! I dont think casey is prepared for what is to come soon!!! she is under the false pretense that she will walk out of there in masons arms!!!  she is already planning what she will do with all the money she thinks she will  make hell she probably is thinking of starring in her own movie!!!

Two things which stood out in that were the coffin flies - and the hairs in the garbage bags. WHY would there be hairs in the garbage bags? Maybe when cleaning up the fluids purged from the body some of Caylee's hairs fell out because the body was so severely decomposed?  The more I read the state releases, the MORE I believe they have a LOT of evidence no one knows yet. This is really damning evidence which no flunky that Bozo hires is going to be able to repute.

OMG..............what arrogance from that witch. Ironically, she would most likely have had all this over with by now and be serving about 8 years if she had kept that public defender because the public defender had the experience to know to get her a plea bargain on the murder charges before the body was found. As it turns out she is stuck with Bozo who was/is so inexperienced and narcissistic himself that he wants to take this to trial and will lose the case and maybe even her life. What an idiot KC is, but I can't say that I don't enjoy watching all this play out and her having to spend all this time in jail ALONE for what she did to that baby.

I have a feeling they are split up and living separate places.

Something I have not read anywhere is they can actually MATCH the coffin flies in the bag with Caylee to the ones in the trunk and I think that is a done deal we have not seen the evidence of yet.  I wonder if BOZO learned that in his "forensics" class.

Chica~ as far as either of them arguing in court, some days I really believe they will follow the same pattern as her fraud trial. Bluster their way all through to near the end and then try to work a deal if the State will go for it. Other days i think they'll go for broke, scrambling to get every last drop of tv face time they can, work the only real angle of defense which is try to imply shoddy police work, cause all the other avenues are bogus and would most likely require casey to testify. Don't know if it'll happen and there's not much any of us can do BUT one thing that we can do is try and make sure that they never try to use Caylee's demise to make a name for themselves in the child advocate world. It looks like the media just won't shun them because they're so sensational and bring ratings, even negative attention seems to be acceptable to the networks but charities have to hold a higher bar or people will not contribute and hopefully there's a moral reason too. Incoming- Florida House Speaker Dean Cannon will not sit down this morning in a law office in Orlando, take an oath to tell the truth then answer hard questions about his role in firing deposed Florida GOP Chairman Jim Greer.

Greer, 48, of Oviedo, is awaiting trial on six felony counts. Prosecutors allege that he stole $125,000 from the party while serving as its chairman.

Cannon was scheduled to be deposed at 10:30 a.m. today at the Office of Statewide Prosecution. His attorney, Frank A. Hamner, said that's not going to happen because neither he nor Cannon is available.

The deposition was set by Greer's attorney, J. Cheney Mason, who filed formal notice of it in on Wednesday.

That same day, Mason also filed notice that he would depose incoming Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolos this afternoon in Titusville.

Haridopolos' attorney immediately pushed back, filing a motion, asking a judge to put off that deposition, saying his lawyer wasn't available. Since then, the two sides have reached some sort of compromise.

Lawyers for both Cannon, R- Winter Park, and Haridopolos, a Brevard County Republican, say Mason scheduled the depositions without a sign-off by them.

An email from Mason to Haridopolos' attorney, Dean LeBoeuf, shows that Mason has grown weary with trying to get those depositions set.

"I am not going to wait until December; I do not care what all the additional conflicts are. We have done our best to coordinate with reasonable time. I fully recognize the impact of the politics, but must tell you that I am a-political and am concerned about defending my client. Politics be damned!"

Mason did not return phone calls Friday and this morning.

Casey Anthony's defense team has filed a new request to have her Orange County Jail records sealed in light of a new court ruling out of South Florida.

Attorneys Jose Baez and Cheney Mason want the court to seal her jail visitation log records as well as her jail commissary and telephone records.

The defense attorneys argue in their new motion that Florida's public records law was not meant to provide for such disclosures and that the release of such records "serves only to embarrass and invade the privacy of the defendant."

They also state in the motion: "Miss Anthony has not been convicted of any of the charges for which she is being held by the Orange County Jail."

Casey Anthony, 24, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee Marie. Her trial is expected to start in May.

Her lawyers cite a new ruling out of the 4th District Court of Appeal, stemming from a public-records request by the Sun-Sentinel in South Florida.

The newspaper made a public-records request through the Broward County Sheriff's Office for the recordings of phone conversations of incarcerated defendants in a high-profile criminal case there.

The defendants, minors charged as adults in a second-degree murder case, argued that release of their calls "would prejudice their defense by increasing public scrutiny on issues collateral to the case and would violate their rights to due process and a fair trial."

The trial court there issued an order for the Sheriff's Office not to release any recordings that included admissions; but the department could release any other recordings to the paper.

But the appellate court late last month found that the newspaper was not entitled to any of the recorded phone calls. The ruling found that treating such calls as public records would allow "anyone to request the recorded calls."

It found that "an accused child should be able to consult with a parent without the communication becoming a public record."

Finally, the DCA concluded, "An inmate's personal phone calls do not in any way reflect the actions of government and releasing the calls would not further the purpose of the Public Records act."

The state agency funding Casey Anthony's criminal defense is challenging many of the recent requests the defense team has made for certain costs in the case.

Casey Anthony attorneys, Jose Baez and Ann E. Finnell, filed a motion to set a "reasonable budget" for the "penalty phase" of the case.

They've requested costs for: a private investigator not to exceed $5,000; a psychiatrist or psychologist at a "reasonable hourly rate" not to exceed $7,500; costs for copying medical and school records not to exceed $1,000 and an additional 100 hours for a mitigation specialist at a "previously approved rate."

They've also requested travel expenses and lodging for Finnell, not to exceed $4,000; travel expenses for an investigator or mitigation specialist to go to Ohio with lodging and expenses not to exceed $1,500; and travel expenses and lodging for Finnell from Jacksonville to Orlando at approved rates if the case goes to trial.

The Justice Administrative Commission is authorized to pay "due process" costs in the case. The JAC recently filed a 9-page response, challenging
many of the defense team's specific requests.
It argues at length, for example, that Casey Anthony's lead counsel, Baez, should pay for Finnell's travel and lodging expenses.

Casey Anthony, 24, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee Marie. Her trial is expected to start in May. She faces the death penalty if convicted. Mitigation is a big part of the defense preparation in such capital cases.

Here's a breakdown of the JAC challenges for the requested costs:

•As for the $5,000 in investigative services, the JAC argues the defense "has the burden to show how the requested investigator is necessary to the defense of the case and how the failure to provide such service would prejudice the defense."

The JAC response also says the rates for investigators cannot exceed $40 per hour.

•As for the up to $7,500 for a psychiatrist or psychologist, the JAC response states "counsel needs to file a separate motion delineating the particularized need for the expert." The JAC objects to any out-of-state psychiatrist or psychologist and wants to be heard before the court authorizes any experts.

It also objects to any rate for experts outside established rates. For instance, psychological evaluations have a flat per-exam maximum rate of $350.

•The JAC does not object to paying "reasonable costs" for copying medical and school records, according to the response. But the defense will need to provide proof of payment of those costs before JAC will reimburse them.

•As for the additional 100 hours for the mitigation specialist, the JAC notes the court previously approved a "cap" of 384 hours for mitigation specialist Jeanene Barrett.

It is unclear whether that cap has been reached at this time," states the response from JAC Assistant General Counsel Bradley Bischoff.

The rate for such work is $40 per hour and the response states the court "must determine that the additional hours sought are reasonable and necessary for the defense of the case."

•As for Finnell's travel expenses and lodging, the response says, "JAC objects to reimbursement of travel expenses for any attorney in this case inasmuch as lead counsel is privately retained. Such travel expenses are overhead expenses that should be paid for through counsel's fee."

It goes on to say "the state should not bear the responsibility to cover travel expenses for a privately retained attorney who chooses to use the services of yet another attorney"

The response adds that although Finnell may not be charging Casey Anthony for her services "this is not a pro bono case; it is an indigent for costs case, where lead counsel has received a fee of $89,454.3."

Under JAC policies and procedures, the JAC would pay for attorney travel if the defendant was represented by one "pro bono attorney," but JAC "objects to paying for attorney travel where the defendant has retained privately paid counsel."

Later in the response, the JAC attorney argues, "Here the lead counsel has received compensation from a source other than JAC. Those funds should be used to cover the overhead expenses, including any attorney travel."

If travel is reimbursable, the JAC argues the defense "has the burden to show that any travel is necessary for the defense of the case."

As for the Ohio lodging and expenses for the investigator or mitigation specialist, the JAC argues the defense "has the burden to show how the requested travel is necessary to the defense of the case and how the failure to provide such travel would prejudice the defense."

The response cites the court's May 12 order, which says "out-of-state interviews and depositions shall be done through the use of video conferencing equipment available at the Orange County Courthouse."

It also objects to Finnell's travel and lodging expenses between Jacksonville and Orlando.

The response asks the court to set a hearing on the various expenses requested by the defense.

Anthony’s defense team may have new ammunition in its quest to keep her jail records private.

In new court filings, lawyers point to a recent ruling in south Florida that they claim sets a precedent to seal inmate records.

Defense attorneys argue that public access to Anthony’s jail commissary accounts and visitor logs only serves to embarrass Anthony and invade her privacy.
In the more than two years that Anthony has remained incarcerated, Florida public records laws have meant open access to information such as her jail account balance, what she orders from the Orange County Jail commissary and who has visited her. Recordings of phone calls and video of visits have also been available.
Anthony’s defense has filed a motion asking for Judge Belvin Perry to reconsider its defense to seal that information because of a new ruling.

A judge in south Florida ruled that the information is not necessarily public record.

Orlando defense attorney Richard Hornsby, who is not affiliated with the Anthony case, said the ruling could set key precedent for Anthony’s team.

“The law is clear -- the jail cannot just release this information to the public. It's going to have to be filtered through the state attorney's office or the court,” Hornsby said.

The ruling also raises questions as to whether Anthony’s parents, George and Cindy Anthony, can now visit their daughter in jail without a record of their conversation being released soon after.

A corrections spokesman said on Monday that his office had been informed of the south Florida decision and will follow existing statutes and case decisions.

Orange County Jail spokesman Allen Moore said in an e-mail that Casey Anthony has not made any recent inmate calls, the last one being in early August 2008.

Also, she has had no "video visitations" since Aug. 14, 2008. Those visitations would be with family or friends rather than members of her defense team.

A review of Casey Anthony's recent visits from this month and last month include logged visits from her attorneys, including Baez, Mason, Dorothy Clay Sims, Ann Finnell and Charles Greene.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- The state agency responsible for distributing funds for indigent clients like Casey Anthony is fighting how high the cost of the case could go after the addition of a new defense lawyer.

Anthony’s new death penalty expert, Anne Finnell, has filed paperwork informing Judge Belvin Perry that her expenses in preparing for a possible penalty phase in the case could cost taxpayers $20,000 or more.

Orlando defense attorney Richard Hornsby, who is not affiliated with the Anthony case, said penalty phase costs are unavoidable.

“The defense has to incur all those costs before the case goes to trial,” he said.
Finnell estimates an expert psychiatric witness could cost $7,500, but lawyers for the Justice Administrative Commission said the cost should be far less.

“While an indigent has a due process right to the assistance of experts in his or her defense, that right is not unfettered,” the filing read.

Finnell also estimated her travel costs to be $4,000, but the commission said those costs should come out of the $89,000 fee that Jose Baez has already collected from Anthony.

"The state should not bear the responsibility to cover travel expenses for a privately retained attorney who chooses to use the services of yet another attorney,” the commission said.

“If they're unwilling to pay their own costs, they're going to have to withdraw, or Jose Baez is going to have to pay for it out of his own pocket. It's fair and that's the way it works,” said Hornsby.

If the people are paying for her defense, the people should be allowed to see what is going on, maybe not her underwear, but definitely her visitors, records, and conversations.  If a specialist is supposed to see Casey and then does not, or hardly visits at all, how will the people footing the bill know if they are getting their money's worth?

The people of Florida should not have to write a blank check, they should know what they are paying for.

Thank you for posting this.  We have not looked at Casey's Cupid.com profile in a long time.  I think she created this profile in Mid-May... right?  About one month prior to Caylee's death.  Interesting how the profile focuses so much on proclaiming love for Caylee and the joys of motherhood.  This could actually go to premeditation.  Maybe?  Setting up this record ahead of time to refute the truth, which was that she needed to get rid of the child who was cramping her style and causing her trouble with her mom?  Knowing what we've learned about Casey since July 2008, the effort to project a certain image on this profile almost seems like a "protesteth too much" kinda thing, IMO.

Regarding the attempt to keep jail calls and visits from being released, Richard Hornsby is a doofus (IMO) for allowing himself to be quoted in the media saying "The law is clear" on this issue.

No it isn't.  The duhfense is trying to use a recent ruling in a case that is not similar to Casey's, and the Sunshine Law seems to hold sway in most cases.  They are attempting to use the recent decision as a precedent.  The law is NOT clear.  That is the whole point, IMO.  We'll have to wait and see what happens.

Justice for Caylee.

Des~ that's the first thought that came into my mind also. But ya know even if she was a model mom(which she wasn't) it doesn't change the fact that in a deliberate moment she chose to rid herself of the burden Caylee had become in regards to her single, free wheelin lifestyle and most importantly, her pipe dream about TonyL. She had by then reinvented herself as a student,career womansetting her cap on snagging a guy that wasn't ready for a family.
Think Susan Smith, she had been a fairly good single mom but the desire to be single without kids to appeal to her love interest, she heinously killed her boys.

Bearly, I don't think Baez even knows what the show is going to be. Casey may think she's in control but how can she even be aware of the whole new direction JB seems to be taking? Casey has been in the klink before the latest smear campaign against Kronk, the TES fiasco, the Macalusco brag that he could prove she couldn't have done it, Baez is going in circles but I'm sure you're right that casey still thinks she'
s the prom queen and "her team" (whoever that is at any given moment) follows her orders. I really can't wait for her to have to stand up next to JB and listen to a guilty verdict. Let's see how in control she feels then.

I've been on the fence about R. Hornsby.  On the one hand, he appears to be knowledgeable and savvy on the law.  On the other hand, his spiteful and childish attacks on Kathi B. and Bill Sheaffer are really over the top.  What makes me go "hmmmm" is his disdain for Baez and Co.  Wouldn't it be a laugh riot if he floated this case, (wasn't his article on this ruling a couple of weeks ago?) just to see if Baez went for the bait?  I believe the recent decision spoke only of minors being tried as adults, in addition, Casey is indigent.  These are two factors that I think would be major differences.  I can just see Baez hopping all over this one, "Hey, look, Big C, we can get Judge Perry to deny his own ruling AND I'm using Case Law for the first time." (Proudly beaming at himself, waiting for his gold star on his color coded paper.)
Hornsby's contempt for the defense team is apparent, and sometimes I think he feels that he has to show that he could do a better job.  (His springboard to fame and fortune, if you will.)I'm just not sure I trust Hornsby's motives, and I sure as heck don't trust the defense.

Should the public know extensive details about Casey Anthony’s time in jail?

Her attorneys have filed a motion asking Judge Belvin Perry to seal Anthony’s records in the Orange County Jail. She is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee. The public learns about everything from Anthony’s commissary purchases to her visits by attorneys.

WFTV-Ch. 9 quickly covered the new defense motion on sealing jail privacy. “The records are public for all inmates, but Casey’s defense team says releasing her records serves only to embarrass her and invade her privacy,” anchor Josh Benson said. “The argument has already  been rejected twice.”

WESH-Ch. 2’s Bob Kealing highlighted that the defense team pointed to a legal precedent: a South Florida appeals court’s decision that not all jail information is public record.

WKMG-Ch. 6’s Tony Pipitone explained: “A South Florida court just ruled that not all jail records are public records. But that ruling’s not yet binding on judges here. The defense is using that recent decision to re-argue something that has been denied twice.”

Kealing said the Justice Administrative Commission, which gives funds to indigent clients,  is balking at estimates of what Anthony’s death-penalty phase could cost. The costs have been put at $20,000.

Orlando attorney Richard Hornsby, who offers legal analysis for WESH, said the costs are unavoidable because the defense must be ready. But the commission disputed the amounts. The commission also said that $4,000 in travel expenses for a new Anthony attorney should come from privately retained defense attorney Jose Baez.

WKMG’s Pipitone explained that the state will pay the minimum to give indigent Anthony a fair trial. “The law says indigent defendants are entitled to a defense that’s competent,” Pipitone said. “But they’re not entitled to an O.J. defense unless they can pay for it themselves.”

Been following the John Hawthorne case that JP is presiding over and today JP stated that he has sentenced 8 people to death in his 21 years as a judge and gave countless others life.  I'm really glad JP is the judge on Casey's case....I think he's the best we could ask for.   He just sentenced this 20 year old to 38 years and 5 years probation for second degree murder with a weapon {knife}.

I am reassured for the 100th time that he will rule on the side of justice for caylee. I think casey  and her mom will realy make a seen when she is sentenced ! my focus  will be on casey, cindy, baez when she is given her due.!

When the other boy testified that the boy that was murdered begged to be taken to the hospital I couldn't imagine that he wasn't charged with 1st degree.... ::MonkeyTears::

It wasn't first degree because he did not go there with the intent to kill him. And JH's friend, Cameron, should not have been given immunity IMO, because of the fact that both boys denied the victim help after the attack. With help, he may have had a chance to live.

he may not have gone there to murder him, but I do believe at some point me make the decision to kill him and IMO that should have constituted 1st degree. I agree that had either of them gotten him help he might have lived.  So sad

Did you happen to see Dr. G testify?  Oh, she can give off attitude and I can see her full of it when the defense tries their nonsense with her.  This will be one major highlight (for me anyway) of the trial.  Time seems to be clicking away pretty quickly right now and with the holidays it will go even faster. I'm so impatient for this trial to begin, it's so over due.

I have a a few thoughts regarding Patrick Bourgeois (one of the first guys to visit Casey in jail) 

If I remember correctly didn't Louis (Murt's friend) get her computer from Patrick?  Did LE ever get Louis's computer and check it for anything? (seeing how it came from Patrick Bourgeois.)

I have just always thought that there was something more going on with Patrick.  Whenever Patrick visited Casey in jail didn't Casey keep saying something about calling Mike???  Just a little fishy to me.... This may have already been discussed and cleared up.

Casey Anthony will be back in court Friday for a status hearing during which two motions filed by her defense team will be heard.

The motions that will be heard are a Motion to Determine Reasonable Budget for Due Process Costs in a Capital Case and Motion to Incur Certain Specified Costs
Anthony has pleaded not guilty on charges that she killed her daughter, 2-year-old Caylee Marie, claiming a babysitter kidnapped her toddler. Caylee was last seen in June of 2008, but she was not reported missing until a month later. Her remains were found in woods near the family's home in December 2008.

Anthony's trial is scheduled to start in May 2011 and they are still on schedule to meet that date.

Several defense motions in the Casey Anthony case, including issues over sealing her jail records and having the state pay for certain defense costs, will be taken up during a hearing on Friday, Oct. 29.

Court officials also announced today that Casey Anthony will attend the hearing scheduled for next week at the Orange County Courthouse. Casey Anthony has not appeared in court for the last couple of hearings and was not required to attend those.

Part of the hearing late next week will cover a recent defense motion asking the court to reconsider sealing Orange County Jail commissary records, telephone calls and visitation logs.

Defense attorneys Jose Baez and Cheney Mason have cited a recent Fourth District Court of Appeal decision finding that a jail inmate's recorded telephone conversations should not be released to the media or the general public.
"The expectation that a deputy or state attorney may listen to a call is very different from an expectation that anyone and everyone could listen to the calls," the DCA found in that ruling. "Sensitive or embarrassing information, or information that would otherwise be confidential, like financial information of the inmate or the person called, could be disclosed to the public."

Another part of the hearing will be devoted to costs the defense would like to have covered by the Justice Administrative Commission in the case, including certain travel and lodging expenses, mitigation specialist costs, copying costs, and the costs for a psychologist or psychiatrist.

The JAC has challenged many of the defense's specific requests, arguing, for example, that the defense team's lead counsel should pay for the travel and lodging expenses of another attorney recently brought on to the defense team.

The JAC this week requested a hearing on the budget and costs issues raised by the defense.

Casey Anthony, 24, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee Marie. Her trial is expected to start in May. She faces the death penalty if convicted.

Casey Anthony was declared indigent for costs in March. And the JAC is authorized to pay "due process costs" under state statutes.

Anthony hasn’t attended a hearing in her case since July, when several family members took the stand. The month prior, Anthony fell while exiting a courthouse elevator and could not attend the hearing. She is not required to attend case status hearings.

Judge Belvin Perry is expected to hear the defense’s arguments next week over two recently filed motions.
One asks for Perry to reconsider previous rulings over the public’s access to Anthony’s jail records, such as commissary purchases and visitors logs. The second pertains to a motion asking for Perry to set a budget for penalty phase costs that new defense lawyer Anne Finnell would incur.

Finnell estimated her costs could reach $20,000.

Big Name Depositions Scheduled In Anthony Case

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A number of high profile depositions will take place next week in the case against Casey Anthony.

Those to be deposed include Anthony’s ex-fiance, Jesse Grund, and the son of the former meter reader who discovered Caylee Anthony’s remains.

Judge Belvin Perry has set a series of deadlines for depositions in the case to take place, which is why more are now being scheduled.

Court documents indicate three of the depositions are scheduled for Tuesday, including Anthony’s former fiancée, Grund, his father, Richard Grund, and Orange County Corrections Officer Sylvia Hernandez. Hernandez was fired after allowing Anthony to exchange secret letters with a jailhouse pen pal.

On Wednesday, defense attorneys will depose lead detective Yuri Melich. He previously testified in court that Anthony’s car had the strong odor of a decomposing body.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A private investigator working for the defense is being accused of witness tampering, WFTV was told by two EquuSearch volunteers Wednesday. They said both witnesses gave similar stories.

Defense private investigator Jeremy Lyons is being accused by two EquuSearch volunteers of trying to change their testimony about searching the scene where Caylee"s remains were later found. One has already been deposed by the defense and the other has given a statement to investigators.

Lyons was in court recently examining EquuSearch records. He keeps a low public profile, but behind the scenes, he's talking to EquuSearch volunteers who are not happy about it.

Brett Churchill and Brett Reilly, both prosecution witnesses in Casey Anthony's murder case, feel Lyons was trying to get them to change their testimony.

"I felt in my mind, yes, he was trying to tamper with me, in a sense," Churchill said.
"As far as I'm concerned, it's almost like tampering with other witnesses to misrepresent the truth that way," Reilly said.

Both say the exact area on Suburban Drive where Caylee's remains were found December 11, 2008, was under water and unsearchable until the month before.

Churchill had already been questioned under oath by the defense for two and a half hours, but says that didn't stop the defense investigator from going to his house and lying to him about Reilly's story.

"He basically was asking me if what I said in my deposition was the exact story because he had others who fared differently, one of them being Brett Reilly," Churchill said.

Reilly says he warned Lyons not to twist his words after seeing what the defense has done to others. He says Lyons promised not to, but then found out he did exactly that.

WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer says the defense investigator is traveling through dangerous territory.

"The statute specifically says you cannot engage in misleading conduct," Sheaffer said.
Reilly said he complained to defense attorney Cheney Mason about the situation and both told the sheriff's office.

Casey is headed back to court Friday, October 29, for a status hearing. At the hearing her defense team will ask a state agency to reconsider a recent request for thousands of dollars in funding to cover lodging and travel expenses.

The Justice Administrative Commission had previously challenged that request, saying the defense needs to prove the money is really needed for the case.

Two Texas EquuSearch complained to WFTV-Ch. 9 that a defense private investigator in the Casey Anthony case tried to tamper with their testimony.

The two men said investigator Jeremy Lyons tried to get them to change their testimony about searching for Caylee Anthony’s remains, WFTV’s Kathi Belich reported tonight.

Volunteers Brett Churchill and Brett Reilly say the area — where the toddler was later found — was underwater when they searched it. Both men are prosecution witnesses, and both told Belich that Lyons’ actions were like tampering. Both men complained to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office about Lyons, and Reilly also complained to defense attorney Cheney Mason, Belich reported.

In other developments, Anthony will attend the next hearing in her case on Oct. 29, WFTV and WESH-Ch. 2 reported.

WESH’s Bob Kealing listed the key depositions to be conducted next week in the Anthony case. Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter.

Former Anthony fiance Jesse Grund and his father, Richard, are scheduled for Tuesday. Lead detective Yuri Melich will testify on Wednesday. Prosecutors will question Brandon Sparks, who lives in Washington state, via webcam on Thursday. Sparks is the son of Roy Kronk, the meter reader who found Caylee’s remains.

Bumping:  Some of these parodies are a bit over the top for my taste, but I actually found this one to be quite funny.  Casey is ridiculous.

Such a disturbing case:  Sadistic rapist/killer murders bound adult female victim by suffocating her with strips of duct tape over her mouth and nose.  Duct tape was the murder weapon, as it may very well have been in poor Caylee's case.

Given the defense penchant for ripping innocent citizens reputations apart, is it any wonder some felt threatened?

I find him very immature and lacking in true knowledge of the law. Either he is working with the defense or he is just as stupid as the defense attorneys from many of the statements he has made. From the report on wftv, they act like no charges will be filed. I will NEVER understand why so many things like this get shoved under the rug. It doesn't seem to matter what tricks the defense gets accused of, nothing happens. I give up.

Yes, if he designates here as a "material witness" the police will pick her up and deliver her.

I am not sure on this but if a contempt of court warrant is issued, it goes out on a BOLO and she will be picked up in her state. Those are not just state wide (ex: child support contempt orders) The other alternative is for the judge to declare her a material witness in a murder case and I believe the feds will pick her up on that one.  I have a call into my brother to find out, but I have seen the material witness one used in this state to pick up people from other states. Most states have reciprocal agreements on judge's orders to provide a person when there is a court order.

I would think the witnesses would have to file a criminal complaint with the DA to get this enforced. Maybe in Fl the state can do it without the witnesses filing it first. If I were one of them, I would have already had that jerk arrested.

Long-time Casey Anthony defense attorney Linda Kenney Baden has left the defense team citing financial limitations in continuing to represent her.

Kenney Baden's motion to withdraw as counsel in the high-profile case was filed in court this afternoon.

The New York City based attorney cited financial reasons for her departure and state rules surrounding Casey Anthony being declared indigent for costs in the murder case.

She noted that the defense team must comply with Justice Administration Commission rules in this case.
As out of state counsel I have been traveling to Florida and elsewhere to properly represent Ms. Anthony," she wrote in her motion. But, she added, it is her "understanding that the JAC prohibits payment of such costs to out of state attorneys even though they have rendered and are rendering their services free of charge."

Kenney Baden goes on to say she cannot continue representing Casey Anthony "in the absence of substantial funds to cover the costs of travel and reimbursement for expenses, which she anticipates will increase as trial approaches…"

She added that like Andrea Lyon, who also withdrew from the case as an out of state counsel earlier this year, she has worked hundreds of hours on the case.

"I believe in the client's innocence to the charges and do not wish personally or professionally to withdraw from this case," she wrote. "Nonetheless, because the state of Florida fails to reimburse out of state pro bono attorneys for expenses, I am forced to make this application…"

She says she cannot represent Casey Anthony "from afar without the necessary interactions and appearances in Florida."

Casey Anthony, 24, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee Marie. Her trial is expected to start in May. She faces a possible death sentence if convicted.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- One of Casey Anthony’s defense lawyers has backed out of the case, according to court documents filed on Friday.

Linda Baden filed a motion to withdraw in Orange County.

Baden was brought in to work on much of the forensic issues in the case.

She is the second high-profile attorney to leave the defense team in the last four months. No specific reason was given.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- One of Casey Anthony’s attorneys has decided to leave her defense team.

Linda Kenney Baden filed a motion to withdraw as counsel on Friday.

Casey Anthony is facing murder charges for the death of her young daughter, Caylee, in 2008.

Before joining Anthony’s defense team, Baden represented O.J. Simpson when he was charged with murder in California.

Casey has been declared indigent, which means the state is covering the costs for her defense.

Lawyer Leaves Casey Anthony Defense Team

ORLANDO, Fla. -- One of Casey Anthony’s attorneys has decided to leave her defense team.

Linda Kenney Baden filed a motion to withdraw as counsel on Friday. She is the third attorney to leave Anthony's defense team this year.

Baden is a forensics and cross-examination expert, and worked on Anthony's case since 2008.

Casey Anthony is facing murder charges for the death of her young daughter, Caylee, in 2008.

Baden left the defense team because of issues regarding money. Casey was declared indigent, which means the state is covering the costs for her defense. The case had required Baden to travel to Orlando from New York to be in the courtroom, but the state won't reimburse out of state attorneys working pro bono.
Hours after learning Baden was leaving Casey Anthony's defense team, WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer said Anthony's remaining attorneys, including J. Cheney Mason, will have a tough time filling Baden's shoes.

"Although Mr. Mason is a very very experienced and good lawyer, he's not known as an expert in the area of forensic evidence. This is going to be a significant loss to the defense," said Sheaffer.

This comes after high-profile attorney and anti-death penalty advocate Andrea Lyon left the Anthony defense team in June, also citing financial reasons. In February, Todd Macaluso left the defense team because of a disciplinary issue with the California state bar, for which he was eventually disbarred.

"We've seen a number of attorneys who have been involved in this case who have advanced some personal interest of their own in representing Casey, that after they've exhausted that, have left the case," said Sheaffer.

Before joining Anthony’s defense team, Baden represented O.J. Simpson when he was charged with murder in California.

Blink, this is from the Casey Anthony case and it appears that Florida and Washington have an agreement where if Florida wants to subpoena someone from Washington, Washington issues the subpoena.  I wonder if NJ and Florida have the same arrangement.

Central Florida News 13 saw it as “a major shakeup for Casey Anthony’s legal team.”

It was Linda Kenney Baden’s resignation from the team. “This is the most significant departure we’ve seen thus far,” WFTV-Ch. 9 legal analyst Bill Sheaffer said.

Sheaffer predicted that the other attorneys — including “very, very experienced and good” Cheney Mason — would have trouble making up for Kenney Baden’s forensic expertise.

Kenney Baden, who had been on the Anthony team since 2008, cited financial reasons for leaving the case of indigent client Anthony. Kenney Baden could no longer afford to work on the case for free, Central Florida News 13 said, citing her as a key member of the team. Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee. The murder trial is scheduled to begin in May.

WFTV’s Eric Rasmussen noted that attorney Andrea Lyon also left the case for financial reasons and attorney Todd Macaluso departed the case for a disciplinary issue in California. Macaluso was later disbarred.

In his analysis, Sheaffer said, “We’ve seen a number of attorneys who have been involved in this case who have advanced some personal interest of their own in representing Casey, that after exhausting that, have left the case.”

But WFTV also noted that the Anthony team added three lawyers last month.
One of Kenney Baden’s most memorable moments in the case came during a “48 Hours Mystery” interview a year ago on CBS.

A stranger killed the toddler, Anthony’s defense team said in an interview with Maggie Rodriguez. “Somebody else is the killer of this child,” Kenney Baden said.

He would be gone already, but he can't find the exit door.

I don't think any of us are surprised by this. But I thought that the state of Florida passed some legislation recently that an attorney couldn't leave a case. And it was specifically because of this case. So was that for only local attorneys like Baez and Mason and not for these of state ones? Maybe my memory isn't working well these days.  ::MonkeyHaHa::

Dosen't apply to pro bono only paid attys that spend all the clients funds and then file for indigent status. They are required to stay with the case...Baez. ::piggy::
