 Posted December 2, 2010 10:38 AM

Contact lenses brand 1 Day Acuvue TruEye lenses have been recalled by Johnson and Johnson for eye stinging.

The lenses were voluntarily recalled by the company early this year. The recall has now expanded to 492,000 boxes in 25 nations. It does not affect products sold in the U.S.

The company says more than 75 percent of the recalled producst were shipped to Japan. Other countries in Europe, Asia-Pacific and Canada were also affected. Customers say they feel a pain or stinging in the eye when inserting the lenses.  J&j analysts say there were higher-than-expected levels of acid used on manufacturing the lenses. These acids had not been properly removed.

The nearly half a million boxes are less than 1 percent of lenses sold by the New jersey based company.
