Sleuth - Yes, IMO he should be shaking in his boots.  I'm wondering if the timing of the Perpers report and the DNA report have anything to do with one another?  The DNA test results should be known by Monday as well.

Klaasend, I think the timing of the results is coincidental.  Mainly because the DNA orders came from the Bahamas and the autopsy from FL.  Just my guess.

Spain, while

maintaining relative price stability. This has been partly achieved by
relying extensively on

activity, tourism and

absence of changed public sector financial results the debt to GDP ratio
could increase to over

60% by 2009 and in the event there was to be additionally a drop of 4.7% in

Aruban police search home of Dutch teen

four hours. Two white-uniformed investigators from Holland

carried suitcases into the one-story, yellow-beige home,

which includes an attached apartment where the young man

lives. They later returned the suitcases to their white,

unmarked car.

Investigators also emerged from the house carrying two white

plastic garbage bags full of unidentified items. A German

Shepherd also sniffed around the property outside the

capital, Oranjestad.

Authorities towed a blue sport utility vehicle and a red

Jeep away from the house, which is surrounded by a low stone

wall and fronted by an expanse of trees and cacti.

comment as investigators wrapped up their search at about 4

p.m. Six police officers guarded the entrance to the

The latest news/rumour is that the 2 brothers from suriname dropped off the dutch boy who exchanged email addresses with Natalee and the 2 brothers were supposed to drop Natalee off at her hotel. Boy this is one convaluted case. from the above we can only assume that the brothers are responsible, which makes sense in a way because if it was the dutch boy that killed her then wouldn't the Suriname brothers give him up to the police. hmmm

But my doc is happy.  I have ONE more round of chemo left.  THen a PET CT scan (chest, abdomen, pelvis) to see what's going on.  There should be nothing going on.  I'm about chemo'd out here.  I don't know how some people do chemo year after year.  AND maintain a good attitude. It's tough enough to be where I am right now.  It's hard to sit next to someone getting chemo whose choice for the day is 1- get chemo or 2- go sit with their dying mother.  Words escape me.  And she's been at this for years.  Ovarian cancer is likely going to be a chronic condition for her.  And it makes me so sad.  On one hand, a chronic condition that you can manage beats a dirt nap.  But it's hard.

I am sorry you don't feel good, I am sure you'll begin to feel better in the next day or 2(I know that don't help now)  I am soooo excited that you only have 1 more treatment.  It seems like just a short time ago, you told us all of your illness.  I am so thankful that God has blessed you as he has.  I am sure the scans and all will turn out fine.

I do feel for all who are undergoing the chemo treatments.  I have had experiences with it happening in my family, and the others whose stories will break your heart- but it will also bless your soul and teach you some lessons about life.....Like don't sweat the small stuff, and be thankful for every day. I have met some amazing people along the way - as I am sure you have and my life is richer for that.

Rat poison has been found in pet food blamed for the deaths of several animals around the country, a spokeswoman for the State Department of Agriculture and Markets said Friday.

Spokeswoman Jessica Chittenden would not identify the chemical or its source beyond saying it was a rodent poison.

State agriculture officials scheduled a news conference Friday afternoon to release laboratory findings from tests on the pet food conducted this week. The deaths led to a nationwide recall.

I just read elsewhere that it is being reported that the wheat came in from China originally.

THis is the problem with importing food and food products from other countries. They just don't have the same standards that we have for pesticides, cleanliness, etc.
I used to worry this would happen and now I see it has come to pass.
(as have so many things I never thought would happen)

   I I have felt for some years that countrys that are against the United States might at a time try to introduce into our food supply a poison of just this type and they would have to run a test to see just how lax that our food inspections are at that time .
   What better test to use but on our own pets this would give a hostel nation a very good idea about how to place an element into our food chain which is very open to this kind of an attack .
   I am sad to say  that I believe it is going to take a instance of Major Proportions to get our Govt off its butt and to get our fellow Americans angry enough to DEMAND that some thing be done for our protection .

I heard that too, MeMere.  In fact, I was listening to Fox and someone said some vets are going back in their files of deceased pets that died from unexplained kidney failure and asking the owner if they can recall what foods they were feeding. Also, if any have any cans, etc, left over to check on seriel numbers.

I do believe that growing and canning veggies and raising meat may become something that we will be forced to do in the future.
Its good that you have a Mennonite farmer near you as they usually grow "organic". I have large farmstand down the road from me that grows a huge amount of produce on their land, so will also be able to buy what I don't feel like growing.
I have even considered another Nanny goat for milk and cheese. Heck, I still have the milking stand and buckets! :lol:

Isn't wayfarin another name for Koumadin (sp?), widely used for treating blood clots?  My ex is on that and always refers to it as rat poison.  Can have nasty side effects.

Yes, it is Warfarin that is in Coumadin.  It is a blood thinner.

Yeah, None, before each of my surgeries they asked if I was on it and if so, to stop taking it as it can cause bleeding during and after surgery.

Yes it is a very powerful and effective drug, but as a blood thinner can cause uncontrolled bleeding.  As the ex says, if he were ever in a car accident and his spleen ruptured, it would be curtains within minutes.  Have also heard some stories about bruising and internal bleeding in the elderly related to this drug.  Must be taken in carefully controlled dosages and frequently monitored.

Sounds downright dangerous.

Yep!  But in his case, he developes potentially fatal blood clots in his right leg, so what do you do?!

Having an IVC filter ( ie Greenfield Filter)in place can also help prevent /lower the chances of a clot forming and traveling to a vital organ. These patients also usually need to be maintained on Coumadin also. These filters are usually reserved for times when a patient is at a particullary high risk. Within the last year or so they have develpoed temporary IVC filters which can be removed, but before that they had to remain in place once they were inserted.

This is actually something to think about whether you have a known history or not. For instance the recent Jetblue passengers that were left stranded on the planes for some 11 hours at JFK were possibly put at risk for developing just such problems. Well, the nurse at the hospital gave me a pair since they would have to toss them out anyway (they can't re-use any wearables like these on other patients according to their policy) and I asked her if they would help when I sit and paint or sew and she said they might and it couldn't hurt.
I don't have any clotting problems, but  I DO tend to sit a lot.
So..wondered if that would help or just be a PIA to wear and not really do any good!  :lol:

Not BB, but I am familiar with compression hose.  Most hospitals purchase compression hose that have equal pressure along the length of the hose.  These are intended for patients on bedrest (immobilized).  Compression hose for ambulatory (walking around, sitting) people should have gradual pressure rise (more pressure at ankle than calf).  These are the type airline pilots wear.  There are vascular surgeons that actually believe that wearing the equal pressure hose, INCREASE the risk of clotting in an ambulatory person. Unless you know the make of hose and characteristics, I would buy a pair of graduated pressure hose. IMO

IMO they probably wouldn't hurt. But the real thing to avoid would be "sitting" in the same position for any length of time without either walking around or lying down at intervals.

The TEDS are the elastic open-toed stockings (sometimes hard to put on  :evil: ) The "mechanical " devices are sequential compression devices ( ie venodynes). Both are to prevent venous stasis. The TEDS help by preventing blood from "pooling" in the lower extremities, and are often worn also by people that need to be on their feet for extended periods and also by people who may have varicose veins.

Trick for putting on the TEDS : Turn them inside out. Powder the inside . Put your toes in and pull up. They will right themselves (this is hard to explain :? ) and be on correctly without as much difficulty as trying to put them on in the traditional way of say Knee-high socks.

The other thing to remember is it is just as important to remove them for intervals as to wear them for intervals.

The "Motion to Quash" was filed by the Kalpoes attorneys pertaining to the Wrongful Death Suit.  It's a motion to quash the summons, basically saying there is no jurisdiction.

You did, Cat.  That is the first thing I thought when I heard it was warfarin-type poison.   :shock: Where had I just heard about that chemical and it was you.   :shock: Now you are psychic cat.

After my scare last year with one of my Yorkies and the aflatoxin I read lots of labels and Rule Number 1 is no imports.

Also of note is the fact that Del Monte makes Gravy Train, a similar chunks in gravy product and their stock went up as a result of the competition being in this trouble.  Checks and balances of sorts.

My dogs will not eat any chunks or gravy products anyway so this time I am OK.  And last year, the dog food company first said they would pay all expenses.  Then they cut it back to only a certain type of food and then only that food processed at a certain plant even though my vet said he was certain it was the cause of Jasmine's problems.  

Bottom line is they finally offered to send me a coupon for a free bag of their dog food as though I would want that and I was stuck with the vet bill over a thousand dollars and now Jasmine is developing a little hernia along the incision line that will require a second surgery.  

I hope this company doesn't get away with this like that but so far I have not heard them even pretend they will cover any expenses.  They are supposed to test each batch of ingredients which obviously they didn't do.  

This recall is much much larger and a lot more pets lost.  Class action law suit with heavy punitive damages seems in order but best bet is not to feed pets any more imported products.  They can't be trusted obviously.

Anna - about a week ago I decided to purchase some "healthier" snacks for myself to quickly heat up.  I found some Pilgrim's Pride Eat Well Stay Healthy KIDS chicken breast nuggets.  Frozen and heat up in the microwave.  They are breaded and have fairly low sodium.

Everytime I ate them I'd get a stomach ache.  Now I'm wondering if there's a possibility that other foods could be contaminated in a similar manner.

For the last 5 years every time I eat store bought chicken I get terribly ill,, and I MEAN ill, a few times I thought I would just die in the bathroom, dizzy, crampy, and just in pain. Now I refuse to eat anything with chicken in it. I can't eat eggs either, but that progressed over 20 years and increased so bad that I don't go even have the desire. It's bad too..I LOVE chicken and egss.

 But I often wondered, if perhaps slowly we are being "experiments" to find tolerence levels. I have a lower tolerance than many people with drugs and meds, Gawd I am still on the stupid steroids from my allergic reaction to antibiotics last week lol. Tomorry will be my last day.
 I been in contact with a herbologist, I am going the natural way, the hell with meds and drugs.

 This spring I plan to order in some chickens to grow.

 Oh talking of growing, Spring has officially sprung at my house, My pussywillows are budding and the rabbit got moved out to his outdoor hutch. That's always a sign of spring for me lol.

Seamonkey - certain preservatives can bother me, also milk.  I just found it interresting that the chicken nuggets are covered with a wheat breading.  Who is their supplier?  Makes you wonder.

My husband is a celiac, which means he's not supposed to consume any wheat or oat gluten. If he does he gets immediately sick, and if he keeps doing it, he will become anemic. It could also leave him susceptible to stomach cancer. He walked into the living room just as the newscaster was talking about poisoned wheat gluten and started saying, "See- I TOLD you that stuff is poison."  :roll:

Celiac can be very serious.  We read up on it when my mother inlaw suspected she had it.  They claim she does not but she has the symptoms.  She's very careful now what she eats.

yeah and it makes ya think...why all of a sudden in the last 5-10 years there are so many gluten intolerant people ??? Never heard of it before, nor were there really any of the effects of it widely known.

Just be careful of the Soylent-Green, have heard bad things about it.

Oh I just remembered ( sorry I am slow, still effects of drugs in me)..but I remembered, a few months ago I did an experiment on myself. I made sure everything I ate had NO wheat gluten at all in it.

 I never felt better and more energetic and I actually showed no signs of IBS, which I was told I have, but the meds they gave me for IBS made me feel worse..go figure.
 
 I would like to go on a total wheat free diet, but it is kind of hard with kids and a hubby who eats like he is whole army unit in himself lol. It can get costly, but I figure once I get back on the ball and put my mermaids back to work I should be able to do it lol.

I was on some sort of very low dose antidepressant for five years because I had an allergic reaction to an antibiotic called macrobid that I took for a UTI...I had major hives and everytime I'd try to get off the meds, the hives would come back...

Well, here's what I'm writing about -

Every time I click on a page at SM (e.g., Refresh, Next Page, Post) I get a
message from my security app that it's detected "Chitika." I keep "moving it to the vault" but it's pretty annoying.

This ONLY happens at SM, and just started yesterday (Thursday).

Do you know anything about it?

Klaas, My second rule for dog food is that if the first listed ingredient is Yellow Corn, don't buy it.  Dogs are not supposed to eat primarily grain no matter how it is flavored.  There are too many better brands that list meat proteins and other veggies instead of grains.

I think there is a major problem with grains getting mold and fungi like the aflatoxin that almost killed my Jasmine.  Remember she had that open incision and you could actually see the internal ones from her being spayed because the outer incision would not hold and she was only held together by that awful compression bandage?   :shock:

And Aflatoxin is also listed as a WMD and one that Saddam Hussein had experimented with.  I don't want to sound like a conspiracy theorists as this stuff does occur in nature.  I have discussed with farmers locally a great deal since my encounter.  Cows tolerate it far better than hogs for some reason and it is usually fatal to the hogs.

But it is like a mold/fungi that gets in grains and then who or whatever eats the grains can get just deathly sick.  Also when we buy bread, it is usually already in the process of beginning to grow mold because of being in those plastic bags!  Often it is not the actual mold that is toxic but the spores when they pop and explode.  

Also, I wonder if frozen food is sometimes allowed to thaw and then is refrozen.  Think it has been real warm in your area?  Gosh, e coli used to never be in veggies, either.  But I do wonder how that much rat poison could be in that dog food accidentally.  It has to be a massive amount.  I surely hope some heavy duty investigation is going on about it.  We are talking industrial quantities when you think about how much it would take.

The Rx that bothered me is an anti-inflammatory. (He also prescribed a muscle relaxer and something for pain.) However, when I started taking everything, my tummy started hurting almost as badly as my back.

The anti-inflammatory cautioned about taking only with food, which I did, but still ...

I left it off last night and this morning; that's why I'm FINALLY better today than I have been since Saturday.

So much of our food is over-processed and over-preserved.

Hope no one takes this personally - I certainly don't know what goes on in everybody's kitchen - but to me, the last straw was bagged salad. I would NEVER eat ANYTHING from the store without washing it myself.

Also it was the Pakistan cricket team's coach that died and suspected to be murdered.  The Pakistan team was staying in Jamaica.  They are a paranoid bunch about their cricket and would have given the coach a bad time when he returned to Pakistan if they lost.  It would have been bad enough to lose in a final but to be tipped out of the competition so early would be considered a national disgrace.  They burn effigies and riot over things like that.  Truly mad as it is only a sport.  Now there is talk of match fixing and other illegal activities like betting being involved so it may end up a real scandal.

I hear ya Bots, I'm a little phobic myself that way. I won't say NEVER but I do get heebies about Buffets and Salad Bars.  I DON'T do fast food, not because I don't like it but because IMO they generally have people working there that really don't want to be working there.
I NEVER send food back, if something ain't right, I'll just push it away and forget about it.
But that said, I do eat out regularly but agree that fixin' at home can't be beat.

I remember reading in a health book that allergy to wheat and wheat by-products is the widest known allergy in the world.  Probably because most of the Western world eat wheat.  And because it is such a large scale industry the truth about it causing so many allergies is kept quiet.  Rice and corn are much better for us.  There are a lot of healthier substitutes like Spelt flour and so on which you can get from health food suppliers, sometimes in bulk.  
The new age people were correct - we need to go back to growing and eating our own produce but it is not possible for so many who live in cities.  And what they call fresh in most food stores have been treated with all sorts of poisons, and "nuked" as well.
Storage is a big problem, like Anna wrote.  In the warmer States products like milk never keep as long as their use-by dates.  Delivered to shops in refrigerated vans but if shop not open when the van called, they just dumped the crates of milk (in plastic or cardboard containers) on footpath outside in the sun.  Must have done it a lot of good.  :roll:

Yep - and they still have it for sale even when the bags are blown up like balloons.

If anyone speaks with IBE, tell her that the product she is looking for is named EnviroTex. It can be found in hardware stores and the like. Not always available in craft shops like Michael's, contrary to what you might think. It can be hard to find.

A LOT of posts tonight about the poisoned pet food.

WHY ARE WE SURPRISED?

Didn't we expect stuff EXACTLY like this to happen in the aftermath of 9-11? We were TOLD that there would be more to come, in all sorts of different ways.

I personally think that we have done a FINE job of preventing all of the things that COULD have happened. The Anthrax scare was put down rather effectively. I look back on the last 5 years and am pleasantly surprised that we haven't had to face these things again.

I don't know if this thing now is a terrorist attack or not... I am inclined to believe it is a plot of some kind...

I don't know if the dog food was a plot or not but now wonder about even bread.  I have a lot of flour stored in refrigeration so maybe I will bake my own for a while and see what happens.

Now that Peaches mentions it, I do recall hearing something about recall of some kind of kid's chicken something-or-others.  You might find it on the FDA website.

But the store should have pulled them.  If they didn't, and they were recalled, I would be looking for another grocery store!

Well, now that is scary!  I don't like them.  They make a real ugly loud noise, too.  And the other one is absolutely huge and has been around for months.

I will look them up on the Internet and see if there is advice on how to make them go away.  I also saw something I would swear was an eagle recently.

Lots and lots of birds in this area and people come here for birding.  I have huge oak trees in my front yard that protect the pups when they are under their branches but I never know when one will run to an exposed area.  Will have to rethink this.

I think we need to start buying American products for Americans.  It's difficult enough to keep our own foodstuffs safe.   I haven't heard what the Chinese company who sold this poison had to say.  

Coumadin has been used as rat poison, but I think it's been outlawed because it's a grotesque and painful and cruel death even for rats.  They bleed to death.  They start bleeding from all orafices til they're dead.  

I believe there's a hearing next Tuesday or maybe that's a date for a response or something in one of the California cases.  Someone here knows the specifics because this is where I heard it.   :wink:

Oh that's awful Mishy to be on something that long and then have it return..how frustrating for you  :(. I have been prescribed on and off since September antibiotics for an UTI, they have tried various ones on me, all gave me some kind of reaction, this last one was a sulphar based one, which caused a razor-burn like rash to move up my legs. They put me on benadryl and steroids, I had to go off the benadryl because it wacked me out. The UTI I had didn't have any cultures showing it was an infection . It caused by a diverticulum i have that returned from 10 years ago when I had an opertion to remove it. From all that I have read, I suspect I had cystitis and not a typical UTI, because I was able to control it with diet. My urologist wants me to take an antibiotic every night for two months now, I refuse to. They just want to keep an infection from getting to my kidneys and bladder, well the way I look at it if it is on a prevenative measure now and not a matter of having to cure it ( I am sure the suphar knocked it out of me, IF indeed i had one to begin with , which I doubt..cultures were negative..) I can take cranberry pills at night to fight it off. I also am looking into a natural cure that seems only available in the UK right now for it. The herbologist here has a tincture and a tea for it too which I will probably try after I get a cystascope and renal ultrsound done to make sure my major organs are not affected first. I will be getting these procedures all done within the next two weeks..eeek.

Just an FYI on the pet food recall, little none had to take one of our pets into the vet this morning and learned some new facts regarding the recall. it seems one of the vet tech's had a cat on one of those foods, it became sick and as a result <gratefully it's survived>, our vet had to investigate all of this a bit deeper.

it seems that the wheat gluten was 'infected' with the rat poison because rats had chewed into the bags containing the gluten, their saliva contained the rat poison which then spread into the bags and infected the gluten. It also seems one pet food company actually refused the gluten and didn't use it, for they felt it appeared to be 'deteriorated'.

Our vet recommends we use organic food for now until this is all cleared up, due to the higher standards used in the production of those foods.

Aha!  I knew I wasn't imagining it was an eagle.  And some of these birds are HUGE, too, wingspan wide as my own arms outreached.  I am going to post a secocnd photo in the lounge on the panda thread of the hawk.

Do you have an example?  I only feed dry to the five cats and four dogs.  I think I buy Pedigree.  It's a yellow bag.  Lots to do today since I felt so crappy  the last two days.  Since the coffee is still in my stomach, maybe things are looking up.

You are a wealth of information.  I have TN River very close, it's just straight down, lol!  Bluffs and huge unpopulated areas like 800 acre hunting club where no one ever hunts plus trees planted for paper mill harvesting.  They could go live in those areas and not my back yard!

Must study up on birds as I am being over run up here!  One mocking bird has learned to imitate a puppy crying just to further terrorize me.  Guess even birds have a sense of humor.

I saw something on TV about a woman who moved to the desert and built her own little dome house.  She was new to the desert and loved the house, but some large bird took one of her cats.   :cry:

I saw an eagle up close and personal at a Pet Smart once.  He couldn't fly and the handler took him to places for PR.  My mom, who is afraid of parakeets and won't let my brother leave his Cockatoo out when she's there, had a semi-panic attack and headed for the back of the store.   :lol: They are huge.

I took Max (1yr golden) into Petsmart, and instead of his insane let's pull mom all through the pet store mode, we walked in, Max calmly by my side, I was like "oh, look at me", "look at my well behaved dog".  

We got some toys, bones, our basket was filling up, we went to the cat aisle and were picking out some gifts when Max looked up and saw the giant cat on the cat aisle sign, he started w/ a low growl, and backing up, then broke out in a mad dash for the front doors w/ me alternating between a beginning skiier going up the rope-tow and a stumbling drunk. Basket and toys flew in all directions. Ah, the good times.

 :lol: Fortunately, my mother didn't pull me along with her.  

Size - The female bald eagle is 35 to 37 inches, slightly larger than the male. With a wingspan which varies from 79 to 90 inches. The male bald eagle has a body length from 30 to 34 inches. The wingspan ranges from 72 to 85 inches. Bald eagles weigh from ten to fourteen pounds. Northern birds are significantly larger than their southern relatives.

That's a wing span of about 7 feet!  Bigger than most NBA players.   :shock:  Note the female is larger than the male, as Cat mentioned about hawks.

About the Pet Food. Menu Foods had a list. None of the wet Fancy Feast
I buy or the Iams dry for cats was on the list. I then got an email from Purina Canada Cat Club ( yes we belong ) telling me that anything Purina CANADA made was ok. So we are good.
I work for Agriculture and we have not had anything from anyone about this yet.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency CFIA is part of where I work and they do the inspections for human food. Maybe this should be changed.
If I get any of the press releases at my work addy, I will post them here.
I went to the organic store yesterday and bought local organic products I was so freaked out by this poison in the food chain, animal or human......
So much for any quality control mechanisms in these factories.

I know what you mean. I'm planning to go to the organic food store 30 minutes away to get my food.  Also, I'm thinking of making my dog's food now, even though his dry food, BilJak is not on the list.

A couple months ago, a friend of a friend of mine was tellimg me that she will not eat any shell fish anymore. She works at the FDA and shell fish come in from china and is relabled with other company names and no indication that it is from china.  She knows china is a country that does not regulate it's food products.

A few months ago, I was at a Walgreen's (like CVS, etc)  a woman in front of me was returning a bottle apple juice b/c she read on the label that it was from china and did not want to drink it.  A lot of our apple juices come form china.

I want our (CA and US) to better regulate and lable origins of ingreds.

I have always read labels, but I am surprised at this China thing.
I usually do not buy the cheapest brands and I do look for where stuff comes from. But with stores like WalMart, etc the big box stores, a person would have no idea where this S&*T comes from.
I also read the local papers for who got shut down for unsanitary
practises. I had to toss out a whole pile of bakery products one time last year and then I became the unofficial bakery inspector around here !
Went so far as to inspect CostCo's and a local bakery via the windows.

If there is food available from a local supplier, then that is where I get it
because I know it was inspected even tho s*&t happens everywhere.

We are on Daylight Saving time ... it is now 12:30 PM PT .... which would have made it 3:30 PM Eastern Time ... two weeks aqo.  My confustion come from not knowing if the East is on Daylight Savings time.  I think I will phone my cousin in Nova Scotia and ask her what time it is.  LOL

Patti, I live a 45 minute drive from Vancouver, British Columbia.  I normally agree that our area is beautiful but ... after one week of pouring rain ... without letup ... my thoughts are conflicting.

About 2 weeks ago, I bought blueberries from either an organic supermarket or Trader Joes... I don't notice until I got home that the  blueberries came from Brazil. It was in a plastic container with holes.

It made me wonder at the time all the stuff it could have been exposed to from there to here and why it was still fresh coming that far.

However, the container made it easy for me to clean the berries in a little bleach and water, though.

I saw that Alton Brown on the Food Channel keeps his bleach %+ water in a spray bottle. Neat idea. Many don't clean their produce well enough.

I have a neighbor that will not used bleach for anything as it's not environmental friendly... (neither is death)

I think the soybeans at COSTCO are from China. I remember a friend and I were discussing, last year, how hard it is to buy American.

The whole thing goes back to treaties of trade OK'd by Congress and no one writing negatives about them to Congress. They creap up on us little by little and then we have the situation like with the dog/cat food :roll:

Just think, the countries in the EU lost their individual Constitutions. Will we under the Trade agreement between US, Canada and Mexico?

When you think of all the people handling our food, it's a wonder we don't have more problems. There is enormous trust put into those who pick our food and pack it.

When I watch on the Food Channel, the program called unwrapped I am surprised at the number of food workers in different states who don't wear gloves or hair thingies... if I see a product being make there that I don't like what I see, I no longer buy the product.

Then again, I haven't bought anything of Jane Fonda either (so my private protesting goes back far)

The last time I heard China was having a hard time feeding their own

Just got back from Boston. First I must say it was worth every second and dollar spent. Please Please contact every news station in boston as tommorow is the last day!! We had fox and nbc show up but no telling how much air time we will receive. Local boston stations not national if you can..

Boston has to be the center for American travels to Aruba.. Aruba spent Big Big bucks on there dozen or soo employees and a monstrous Booth. They have been feeding on these bostonians for a long time. I heard my share of horror story’s today.

I did speak to some Arubans and one nasty one.. Ill fill ya in..in a bit.. Need to eat  Ill post about how the day went in a bit.. Lets just I saw a near traffic accident as the lady freaked when she saw us and the justice for Natalee sign and our shirts  Lots of people asking what they can do to help

IBE you are from the midwest! Friends of mine from MI also mentioned lack of hairnets. I haven't seen a hair net on a food person since I was little, and even then it may have been only on t.v. like a re-run of the Lucy show!  But I agree that "food touchers" need to be more concerned w/ sanitary conditions.  My favorite is a person makes my sandwich w/ plastic gloves, then takes my money still wearing the plastic gloves, then goes back to the deli counter. WTH!!!!!

I once had a worker at Wendy's reach inside my car and pet my dog and let the dog lick their hand!  I was horrified for me dog, sorry but that was my first concern.   :lol:

Then this person went right back to dispensing food, taking money, more handling of food, etc.

When you start to notice things, it all gets sort of sickening.  Good for our diets and cutting back on eating I suppose.

The wheat was apparently bought in Canada where the food was canned.  But we also buy it in this country because they sell it cheaper than we can grow it.  Now we know how,  :( But we used to produce the finest quality of wheat ever and in tremendous abundance as we have two crops per year.  Wheat will do well in cool weather and does not require a tropical growing region but the regulations for farmers in this country makes it more expensive to produce than it can be done in countries without such regs in place.

We must watch more closely those making these ridiculous laws and manipulating the world markets in this way.  Otherwise, they are going to kill us all!

Well, my dad brought home some apple juice from CVS today....guess where it was manufactured???? CHINA!!!!!! And the label says it is pasteurized!!!!

I try to buy local. It isn't always possible, but like with chickens, there is a chicken plant just outside the city and I get that brand.
Can't buy local veggies in the winter, etc.
And I have no idea why in the middle of the grain producing prairies where I am that there is gluten with poisonous rat saliva from China in cat food or dog food ! !
I don't buy food from WalMart and in fact, rarely go there.
Because of where I work there are several ppl who live outside the city and are involved in farming, and sell their stuff to us.

Just bringing this forward from the last page to help folks find it.  I am so proud of these monkeys for doing this!  It sort of turns the whole thing around and makes the Aruban presence at the show reflect back on Justice for Natalee.

And many years ago the valet for Elton John, who was setting up Elton's dressing room backstage at the Boston Gardens asked a local working in hospitality (at the Gardens) where can he (the valet) get a cup of tea, the local looked at him and said "why not try the harbor" and walked away.

They are a tough people and do not take to injustices and apparently do not forget.

Getting back to the food issue... Canadian wheat and oilseed products are the best in the world. High quality control.
ps... the brewing industry is highly regulated and I think beers are good !!  I worked when I was a little Kat just out of school for a grain broker who bought malting barley. I worked in his lab and did testing and statistical anaylsis so that he would know what to bid on and buy.
It is a very clean fermenting process and there is alot of testing every step of the way.

NM Yes, just south of Indianapolis, now transplanted to So. CA. but my heart and soul is still midwestern! I have refused to pay and eat food if I have seen them handle money then handle my food or stack plates of food on top of each other.

I found a bone in a KFC BBQ sandwich around 1993, I think. Never bought one again. Then on a conf. in San Diego I decided, June 2005, to get another BBQ sandwich. My friend said I turned white and then stared laughing...(had another with a bone in it.)

The first one I sued for medical for I really didn't want the hassle of a long court case as I was re-grouping from a house fire; the last one all I could do is laugh and return it. They gave me another that I checked out and gave to a friend. Have only been to KFC about 5 times since the first bone and I love their chicken, but could never figure out how they cut some of the parts... never matched to mom's cuts of chicken when I was growing up.

Was only 1/2 listening to CNN TV when, I think, they said they had info that affected dog/cat food cans were still on the shelves in the East... I think they said NJ,

but can't be sure. Said more info at 10 pm.

Hope I am correct on the info but I am sad on the dog/cat food.

I love that celtic cross stained glass...My friend does stained glass and I've been asking him to make me a little stained glass cross to hang from my rear view mirror for the longest...I am having dinner with him tomorrow night and I think I'll bring it up again LOL and ask him to make it a celtic cross...

hummm, Mishy, I had a "dream" more like a day-dream that a tidal wave washes over Auba and all that is there after the wave cleans that POS is Natalee waving to a rescue helicopter, a US rescue helicopter.

i bought my mother a stained glass cross that was hand blown by a true artisian...put it on a chain.....for christmas...very special!

Cuz, that cross sounds lovely...I want a small one for my rear view, and thought I could wear it sometimes too. My friend has just completely rearranged all his furniture in his house and doesn't have his stained glass studio set up completely yet...I need to motivate him to get that baby set up. He has a piece of cobalt blue mirror glass that came from an art deco table (there were 2 and he bought one and I bought the matching one years ago--his eventually broke, but mine is still in fabu condition), but he saved the glass and wants to use some of that in the cross...It should be gorgeous when he finally makes it!!

Isn't Glenfiddich Scottish, I have a vaugh memory of trying to do a 62 mile whiskey tour and never made it past the 1st one. I thought is was Glenfiddich, oh wait, maybe Glenlevit (?sp) I'm a lightweight and it was 10AM!!!

Had shredded wheat today... from Trader Joes. Wheat came from Canada. I felt much better... would have thrown it out if not from US or Canada. Grapefruit juice I buy, I think at Von's is from Mexico.

It's very hard to buy American anymore and some of us were teased very badly when we backed that movement.

I just went on the beer tours. A one stop suits all kinda tour.
Went to a Mezcal ?? tour in Mexico one year and the workers whose teeth had rotted away were in big vats using their none too clean feeties to mush the stuff up or whatever.Afterwards were said Si Senor to a wee drink. Or three as they passed the jug around. We had to sit it out in a little restaurant because it rendered us unable to drive for a few hours.

Here's the real deal.

There are 5 of them.
1 with a HUGE sign.
2 with little itty bitty signs.
1 with a Natalee T-Shirt.

They are quiet, but answered questions.
Until the channel 7 camera showed up.
They yelled in unison something about "Justice for Natalee". Then went quiet again.

When they were inside the premises, (cost 10 bucks each) they were quiet and respectful, and did NOT harrass anyone. They knew better.

Aruba was the first booth as you walked in.
They had a 360 degree booth so that it was accessible as you entered and exited the main doors. There were 5 "manned" counters- each with 2 people. At each "corner" of their booth area (and no where else other than the front door) were stationed security dudes. They were plain clothed (suits) but it was obvious why they were standing there with their hands folded in front of them.

The people at the booths were both Aruba residents (reps from hotels) , and American travel agents. I spoke with the Aruban reps and came away just dying to go to Aruba. I already love those people, they were so helpful and kind. (and happy!)

Well Heres my experience today:

First off I am soo proud to be in Boston Today!!Dave and Beth..You two are a huge inspiration for me!! Please keep up the fight!! We are here for you and we will never give up hope.

I think just being there we had a big effect. I could tell by the looks on peoples faces as they approached me. Kind of like seeing a old friend...Not all of course but enough  Alot were there for the freebees. Some wanted to know what they could do to help and be involved..Some just said they will never go to Aruba they know the story.. Other's had questions some had horror stories. Even had some food service guy at one time telling Natlees story to some canadian. Some lady in this mercedez stopped in traffic was jabbin her husband,goin nuts,pointing and obviously stunned. She was blocking traffic so I spent about 5 seconds with her giving her the handouts. I could see the tears in her eyes as she said justice for natalee and drove off. It seemed like the women were most Interested but a few men said Im here for ya my brother 100%.

I wish we had a thousand bumberstickers and more news coverage as I didnt want to leave at all. I know we made a diffrence but the potential is completely untapped..If we can get some news coverage from local boston stations that would be enormous!!! I cant tell you guys what a huge market the Northeast is for Aruba. The ATA went all out for this one!!

Alot of people of course asked if I was related to the family. I had to explain that I was just a volunteer. Wasnt like me to be standing out in the cold in Boston protesting. But I am outraged and if you saw what this family went through you would be too. I told them to look into Natalee's story and they will be shocked at the injustice.

We were all real gentle today in how we talked and why we were protesting today. Most everyone knows Natalee but not everyone knows the true injustice. Alot were stunned that they havent found Natalee. I think everyone realizes that it was paulus and his connections, the Govt and not the good people of aruba. Even some of the ATA told us that. All in all a good day.

BTW: I did go to the aruba booth. I didnt talk to them in great detail about Natalee as two of the bloggers had a chat yesterday. But what they said pretty much was a bit surprising. I will let the other blogger tell ya as I dont want to get words mixed up. All in all they were nice people. Although only one person argued with me today and made a outrageous comment comparing what happened with Natalee is comparison to Our president.  She happened to be some blonde working for ATA. Funny too cause I had a aruba brochure and Ia guy came up to me and complained about her..lol

that woman on cnn just confused me about really wet food and other canned food. They all just say ask your vet.  I think I'm going to make Max's food. All my pets growing up ate table food and lived long healthy lives.

Those were the days when my system just shook stuff off.
Brought a whole bottle back ( didn't get confiscated ) and my Dad drank it . Not all at once 'cause he lived till he was 81.
Anyway, it sounds as if Boston was a good thing and the Monkeys and I knew they would were respectful and polite and informative to all they came in contact with. Sure the ATA will be telling a story ot two when they go back. Hope there is news coverage in that area.

It was a rehash of everything that has happened to this point.  Glad Kimberly showed it, keeps Natalee's name in the news.

They are basically giving a recap of what happened in Aruba.  They keep showing Joran and the Kalpoes in handcuffs.

They are also showing the number to the Tipline (877) 628-2533 saying if you have any information please call.  There is a million dollar reward for the whereabouts of Natalee Holloway and there is a $250,000 reward to solve this case.

This is good because it keeps it in the news.
