John Trevena, a high-profile defense attorney with an office based in Largo, does not believe Pinellas County is the best place to find that jury pool. Trevena is not directly involved in the case, but was asked for his legal observations.

"I think it's a bad choice," Trevena said Sunday night. "I don't see any benefit in that short of a distance from the Orlando area to the Tampa Bay area. I think everyone here is equally familiar with the case as they are in the Orlando area. To me, it seems silly."

Trevena believes a rural area, possibly as far north as the panhandle, would be a better location to find a fair and impartial jury.

Jury selection for the Casey Anthony trial will take place in Pinellas County.
Judge Belvin Perry chose Pinellas County hoping to keep the jury impartial.
He ordered the location to be kept secret, saying he does not want any pretrial publicity in the area.
When he began talking about jury selection in January, Perry said it will be different, describing it as like going to summer camp.

Woman Accused Of First-Degree Murder In 2008 Death Of Her 2-Year-Old Daughter

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The trial of Casey Anthony, the young mother accused of killing her 2-year-old daughter Caylee, is begins Monday with jury selection in Pinellas County.

Because the trial of intense media interest in the case of the young woman accused of killing her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, the location wasn't announced until early Monday.

The case is drawing so much media attention, more than 600 media credentials have been requested.

"The pretrial publicity I've seen in this case is unprecedented in the state of Florida," said Circuit Judge Belvin Perry.

At the center of this media maelstrom is the ponytailed, 25-year-old Anthony, who could face the death penalty if convicted of first-degree murder. She also is charged with aggravated child abuse, aggravated manslaughter of a child and providing false information to law enforcement. She has pleaded not guilty and says a baby-sitter kidnapped Caylee.

Anthony waited a month before telling her mother that Caylee had disappeared in the summer of 2008. Anthony's mother then contacted authorities. Over the next several weeks, hundreds of volunteers scoured central Florida in search of any clues to Caylee's whereabouts. Meanwhile, numerous photos surfaced of Casey Anthony drinking, some of them allegedly taken during that first month.

The heart-tug of a missing apple-cheeked girl contrasted with images of the hard-partying, single mother and proved irresistible to talk-show hosts and bloggers. The Anthony case became a media sensation, as HLN talk show host Nancy Grace gave her the moniker "Tot Mom." Protesters suspecting Anthony had a role in her daughter's disappearance demonstrated outside of the home Anthony shared with her parents.

Open your hearing link page, then click the restore down next to the X if you're using Firefox then drag the page all the way to the edge and it will go half screen, then drag the hearing link over to the empty desktop area and drag that to the other side and that will go half screen too and they both will fit perfectly next to each other.

When I watch stuff on the Windows Media viewer that the akamai site brings up, after I minimize, if I click on the top right of the minimized bar, it brings up a tiny screen just above it. I use this to watch while I'm working.

O.K. Monkeys, I will be depending on you for the next 2 months to keep me up to date.  FINALLY, Justice for sweet Caylee is on it's way.  I want to see KC fry and I also want to see justice done to Sindy and Georgie boy.  My blood pressure could not take Sindy but I have followed from the beginning.  My theory has always been Georgie found Caylee when he looked in that trunk and knew at that moment what his evil spun had done.  He helped KC deposit of her daughter. JMO

Good Morning....Hard to believe this day has finally arrived, isn't it?  
I can remember how we all wondered when this day would finally begin.

Sleep was difficult for me last night as I know it was for a lot of you.  Today I will be praying for a jury that will have 'common sense', as well as a conviction for justice for a helpless 2 yr old precious child who was murdered by her mother IMO.  This case needs to set a precedent for people who murder their children will be held accountable to the nth degree.  This happens way too often IMO.

I want to say thank you to all of the monkeys who have never waivered in their pursuit of justice for Caylee...and of course, our Klaasend and all of our Mods for all of their diligence to keep us on target (not an easy task over the years).  Thank you to all of the monkeys for the updates, explanations and posts.

It is on my TV with sound on TruTV (formerly Court TV) channel 246.

In Session just said that the defense and prosecution were just handed jury documents and the court clerks are trying to decide jury seating.  That is why we don't see much going on at the moment.  Casey sure seems to be giving Baez the cold shoulder and only seems to be talking with Mason.

I have two friends who were called for this jury - Neither of them can serve as one has an ill wife, and the other is ill himself, but they thought they were called on another case.

REALITY train coming through -- trial will start next week and last 6-8 weeks. And then the beyotch can rot in prison.

The clerk is reading off people's names.  We can't hear it now, but could at the beginning.  I thought they weren't going to use names, just numbers.

The first time I saw Casey check whatever is coming out of her eyes was after she was indicted and a warrant issued for her arrest again.  she was standing by Baez with those big glasses on.  She looks at her hands as if she expects pearls to come out of her eyes.  When she stares at her Kleenex after wiping her nose, I don't know what she expects to see.  These people are so tacky. They all do that.  Are they saving it up to sell to ABC?

Juror 6 woman.  Does volunteer counselling , retired, allergic to fragrances and other stuff, married, had plans to take a trip end of June, does not like interstate driving.

I like her so far!

In previous hearings it is a record of what is being said in court.   The court stenographer is computerized now so it can be connected to her equipment so they get the transcription in real time.

Not being paid by your employer for jury duty should be an excusable hardship.
My job wouldn't pay me...I don't even have regular benefits.

Thinking now is a good time for a shower something Casey should think of before court if memory serves me correct she can shower everyday if she wanted.  The jail give you allotted time for shower or she could use the phone and we know she isn't calling any one on the phone

The only way it could be an "accident" is if Casey habitually gave Caylee chloroform to put her to sleep and she "accidentally" gave her too much.  But still, it would be during the commission of felony child abuse so no excuse. There's no way anyone can get her out of this.  Heck, I can't even understand what Jubilation T. Cornpone is saying much of the time.  But whatever the circumstances, I believe it was cold-blooded murder and I think she will be convicted of murder in the first degree.  I doubt they will sentence her to death, though.

I wouldn't want that woman who says she is allergic to perfume on the jury. 

Hi everyone! This is my first post-but have been a lurker for years! I live a few miles from the Pinellas County courthouse and drove by there on my way home from work an hour ago-it's a zoo over there! I have never wanted jury duty so bad as I do today!! Casey Anthony has been in our local news a lot over the past 3 years, and everyone I talk to knows about this case, so I'm not sure why they chose Pinellas County....but I'm glad they did! Justice is coming Caylee!

But, but..if he owns his own business and is the only employee..or has a few others that work for him..he would go bankrupt....sounds like that may be the case.  Jury duty for 8 weeks would be a hardship for me..and I would definitely go bankrupt..no workee= no money..and no workee for 8 weeks means I would lose all the business contacts I have now to others who would be available to do that work during that time.  Just my take and my circumstanes.

I personally would have more than a hardship and would probably lose my job to boot.
FL. is a right to work state, so normal practices don't apply (as they do up North).

I was called for a jury pool a few years ago, I wanted to do it, but they didn't even call my number. My employer would have had to pay me. No one should have to suffer any financial hardship if they are on a jury, IMO. Most of the persons selected before me were retired and didn't seem to have any obligations to family that came up.

Seems to me that anyone facing such a long jury duty would likely have a financial hardship, unless they are independently wealthy.  This jury selection could take forever.

hey there Wyks & I agree.   Its difficult for anyone that solely or shares in being financially responsible in a household, by the same token for those that do have a spouse I would ask further just how much of a hardship that would be.  In other words, I guess it would depend on what each party does & what that income bracket is.   If there isnt a distinction we'll be here for a year not a week.

A child in the nursing home that he takes care of....another person that defense wouldn't want on the jury. 

They will have a lot of younger ones who live paycheck to paycheck that could not miss 8 weeks of pay checks. Then we have retirees who have a secondary business that can't just walk away from their business. Looks like all we are going to get are well healed retirees, ones with good jobs and welfare drags.

I would bet the defense does not want the nurse they called earlier who said she could do it.

My DH and I are both retired. Either of us would be able to serve...but  I personally would hate to be away from my family, friends and my canine babies that long
