Tennessee Woman Remains Missing; Holloway Search Center Offers Help

May 26, 2011 08:10 PM EDT

As a woman in Tennessee remains missing after several months, the Natalee Holloway Resource Center is going to help assist in the search. Shelley Lynn Mook was last seen after dropping her daughters off at her husband's home in Shelbyville, Tennessee. The young 24-year-old mother seemed to vanish in thin air, not unlike other similar cases in Tennessee.

The Natalee Holloway Resource Center specializes in distributing awareness materials focusing on missing people such as posters and search coordinations.

Search doesn't turn up Mook clues
June 2, 2011

Searchers hoping to find evidence leading to missing Harris Middle School reading teacher Shelley Mook reported no success following a search of large wooded areas in western Bedford and eastern Marshall counties Wednesday.

"She may have had contact with someone in that area," on the day of her disappearance, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokesperson Kristen Helm said, explaining why that area was searched. Helm would not specify whether the contact was in person, by telephone, cell phone or Internet.

Several items of clothing were found, Helm said, but none were considered suspicious. "You always find a few articles of clothing, but nothing we found is thought to be connected to the case."

Bedford County Sheriff Randall Boyce said he had been told by the TBI not to comment.

Mook was last seen Feb. 28 at the home of her ex-husband, Tyler Mook, as she dropped off their child before leaving to meet a maintenance man at a new home she was to rent. Her burned car was found that night southeast of Murfreesboro.

Tyler Mook has been considered a "person of interest," investigators said, but has had no comment and has hired a lawyer.

FBI analyzing items found in her burned-out car

The article talks about Shelley's mom, Debra Sikora, and how not only is she frightened for the safety of her own daughter who's been missing over a week, but she is frustrated at a system that seems to be failing her and her granddaughter who she says is being withheld from her by her daughter's ex. She has not been able to see Lilly since her daughter vanished even though she's come back into town to help search for her daughter.

Police records indicate a history of domestic violence involving Tyler Mook, according to investigators. Charges were filed after he allegedly tried to run Shelley's vehicle off Madison Street, Detective Sgt. Brian Crews of the Shelbyville Police Department said, and Boyce said deputies had been called to the Old Nashville Dirt Road while the couple lived there.

Shelley also had reported two incidents of vandalism at the Meadow Drive home where she lived following her divorce, Crews said. No charges were filed, but a neighbor saw Tyler driving up and down the street before one of the incidents and suspected he committed the act, according to Crews.

The skull found recently did not belong to Shelly Mook----it belongs to Bobby Smelcer

5.2.12 update
Skull Found In Duck River Identified As Missing Man

BEDFORD COUNTY, Tenn. - Police in Shelbyville have identified the skull found on the banks of the Duck River last month.

Officials said the skull belonged to missing man Bobby Smelcer. Smelcer had been missing since November 2010.

"I couldn't breathe," his daughter Jennifer Smelcer said Tuesday. "My heart pretty much stopped."

Authorities also made plans to more extensively search the area where the skull was found.

When Smelcer went missing, police found evidence at his home on East Lane Street in Shelbyville, which made them think he didn't leave there willingly. They found his cell phone, wallet and keys, along with some drops of blood.

Bobby had seven sisters and brothers, two daughters and several grandchildren.

Police have asked that anyone with information about Bobby Smelcer's disappearance to contact the Shelbyville Police Department at (931) 684-5811.

Mook custody denial affirmed
Thursday, November 8, 2012

A state appeals court has ruled against the ex-husband of missing Shelley Mook in the ongoing custody case involving the Mooks' daughter.
An opinion filed Tuesday in Nashville, and signed by Judge Frank G. Clement Jr., affirms the judgement of Circuit Judge Lee Russell and remands the case back to him.

Russell had found that Tyler Mook "was unfit to parent the child and that he posed a substantial risk of harm to the child due to his history of domestic violence and the danger from exposure to the father's drug activities and the father's associates," according to the appeals court opinion.

Child's home

The child is living with her materal grandmother, Debbie Sikora, who relocated to Pennsylvania. Tyler Mook and his parents, Jim and Kim Mook, had appealed the Circuit Court ruling which granted custody to Sikora.

Shelley Mook disappeared in early 2011.

Authorities have said that Tyler Mook is considered a "person of interest" in the disappearance.

Restraining order

Last month, a temporary restraining order was signed against Mook by Russell. The order prevents Tyler Mook and his parents from having any contact with the child, who has been the focus of a custody dispute since Shelley vanished.

Affidavits from Sikora and a counselor claimed that the child said there was talk with Tyler and Kim Mook about burning down Sikora's home in Pennsylvania, with the result being that the girl would then live with her father.
