12-year-old SF girl missing since Monday morning

April 16, 2008
San Francisco -- Police are searching for a 12-year-old San Francisco girl who has been missing since Monday morning when she failed to show up for school.

Billie McGee was last seen at her house on Howth Street in San Francisco's Ingleside neighborhood, near San Francisco City College. She said goodbye to an aunt who lives with her and told her mother she was going to take the bus to S.R. Martin College Preparatory School, where she is in the seventh grade and is an honor-roll student.

San Francisco Police Sgt. Steve Mannina said investigators are treating the disappearance as a missing person's case.

Her mother, Tina Brown, said Billie has never before run away. She fears the worst.

"Someone took her," Brown said.

Billie is 5-foot, 5-inches tall, African-American and weighs 140 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing her school uniform: a black and white jacket with a white collared shirt and black pants.

Anyone with information should call the San Francisco Police Department Missing Person Unit at 415-558-5508 or the department's operations center at 415-553-1071.

Police, Family Search For Missing SF 12-Year-Old

April 16, 2008
SAN FRANCISCO -- Family members passed out flyers and posted them on bus stop Tuesday hoping someone would come forward with information about the whereabouts of 12-year-old Billie McGee, a San Francisco girl who hasn't been seen since leaving for school.

McGee hasn't been seen since she left home Monday morning to catch a bus on Geneva Ave. to head off to school.

The seventh grader is described as being 5-5, 140 pounds. She was believed to be wearing a black and white jacket and black shoes.

McGee's aunt, Theaster McGee, got on board buses as they arrived at the stop on Tuesday, showing riders and drivers Billie's picture and asking if they had seen her.

"We want to know if she even got on a bus," Theaster McGee said. "If she did, she might have gotten off somewhere else."

Billie's other aunt, Debron Broughton, pleaded for the girl's return.

"Just come home Billie," she told KTVU. "If you have her, please give her back. Please give her back."

Her mother, Tina Brown, works overnight and did not arrive home in time to get her to school.

"Her school starts at 8 a.m.," Brown said. "When I knew I was gong to be late (I talked and) asked her if she could take the bus. She said 'Sure, Mommy I'll catch the bus'…That's the last time I talked with her."

Brown called the girl's school at 8:30 a.m. and was told her daughter had not arrived.

"I drove around," a tearful Brown told KTVU. "I followed the bus route…I went to the school…I just drove… I drove everywhere looking for my child."

McGee's classmates Tuesday wrote cards and created signs asking her to return. Counselors were at the school as well as police officers.

SAN FRANCISCO - A 12-year-old girl is safe at home this morning and is believed to have been with friends since she was reported missing Monday after she failed to show up at school in San Francisco, police said.
Billie McGee was picked up at a friend's house in Oakland by her mother late Wednesday night, according to officials. At 11:50 p.m. police learned McGee had been found and sent an officer to meet with McGee and her mother at their house in San Francisco to make sure everything was okay, officials said.

McGee never showed up at school Monday, prompting a police search that lasted more than two days.
