Police search for missing baby, mother
By Nick Martin, Tribune
January 29, 2007
A teenage mother and her 1-year-old son were forced into a pickup truck and abducted early Monday morning near Mesa. But because of significant delays in reporting the abduction, a statewide Amber Alert was not launched until late that night.

As of 9:30 p.m., police were still looking for Noemi Ramirez, 19, and son Isidro Ramirez, who were last seen at 160 N. Crismon Road in a county island near Mesa, police said.

They were taken at 4:30 a.m. by two men in a blue, 1990 Chevrolet extended cab pickup truck with Arizona license plate 709-SCM, police said.

One was described as Hispanic, about 6-foot, 22 to 24 years old, with a muscular build, wearing light brown pants, a T-shirt and black tennis shoes. The other person’s description was unknown.

The only witness to the abduction was Noemi Ramirez’s mother, who told police her daughter shouted that she was being taken to California and did not know the men taking her.

The mother did not report the abduction until almost 2 p.m., because she only spoke Spanish and was trying to find a translator, police said. Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies were investigating the abduction and launched the Amber Alert about 8:30 p.m.

They asked anybody with information to call (602) 876-1011.

Mom says she, baby were not abducted
Associated Press
Jan. 31, 2007 09:21 AM

A 19-year-old Mesa woman and her 1-year-old son who were reported abducted early Monday - prompting the issuance of an Amber Alert for the baby- were found early today in Blythe, Calif. It appears there wasn't an abduction after all.

The Riverside County (California) Sheriff's Department said both 19-year-old Noemi Ramirez and her son, Isidro, are both OK.

Deputy Juan Zamora said Ramirez told a deputy that she had left her residence in Arizona of her own free will, and that she was in Blythe of her own free will. advertisement

Am Amber Alert for the baby was issued by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office after a witness reported that Ramirez and her baby were forced into a vehicle outside their Mesa home about 4:30 a.m. Monday. The witness said Ramirez yelled that she was being taken to California.
