At a press conference Friday, the missing student's father, Gregg LaPore, said that his son is fascinated by weather, which may have been the reason why he decided to go out Wednesday night, the Chicago Tribune reported.

A powerful storm system passed through the Midwest on June 12, bringing torrential rains, gusty winds, hail and lightning to the area.

A missing persons report describes Hudson-LaPore as weighing 110lbs and standing at 5 feet 7 inches, with blond hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and black sneakers.

According to the missing student’s family, Hudson-LaPore, a junior majoring in biochemistry, had just finished his final exam Wednesday afternoon

Family: Body pulled from lake may be missing student
8:18 a.m. CDT, June 19, 2013

Police officers recovered a body from Lake Michigan on the South Side this morning, and a family spokesman said it may be that of a 20-year-old University of Chicago student missing since last week.

“We believe this might be the young man,” said Andrew Holmes, a spokesman for the family of Austin Hudson-Lapore who disappeared near the lakefront last Wednesday.

Police received a call just before 6:30 a.m. today about a body in the water east of the 3900 block of South Lake Shore Drive, Police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada said. No identification was  released, but Estrada said the body was of a white male.

Among those at the scene was Hudson-Lapore's father, Gregg LaPore. Standing with Holmes, who has been active in the search for Hudson-Lapore, LaPore told reporters he was not prepared to speak but the family may make a statement later today.

In a brief phone interview later, Holmes said LaPore was gathering family members to tell them the search may be over.
