Pair Found in Burned Pickup Identified
posted 12/15/09 10:54 am

Sweet Home - Pulaski County authorities say two bodies found in a burning pickup near Sweet Home have been tentatively identified.

According to the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office, the bodies of 28-year-old Michael Palmer and his 2-year-old daughter, Hannah Dowdie, were found Saturday inside the vehicle, after workers at Granite Mountain Quarry saw smoke coming from Wilbern Road.

Pulaski County Sheriff's Office spokesman John Rehrauer says the bodies were charred beyond recognition. He says one body was found in the pickup's bed, and the other was in the cab's passenger compartment. Both Palmer and Dowdie have been reported missing since Saturday.

Further DNA testing is underway. The cause of death is not being released at this time because of the ongoing investigation.

Bodies said to be dad, daughter
Girl in burning truck county’s first baby of ’08, officers say
The Pulaski County sheriff ’s office Tuesday tentatively identified the human remains found in a burning pickup stuck in the mud Saturday near Sweet Home as a 28-year-old county man and his daughter, just about to turn 2.

Sheriff’s office spokesman John Rehrauer said Michael Palmer and his daughter, Hannah Grace Dowdie, had not been seen since Saturday. The bodies, found burned beyond recognition on dead-end Wilbern Road near Granite Mountain Quarries, were in a small GMC truck registered to Palmer, Rehrauer said.

Palmer’s body was in the bed of the truck. Hannah’s was in the cab.

Rehrauer said medical information from Monday morning autopsies - he declined to specify what - helped investigators make their preliminary identifications.

Foster Family Speaks Out

updated 12:50 a.m. ET, Wed., Dec . 16, 2009
The former foster family of the 2 year old girl whose body was found in a burning truck this weekend in Pulaski County is speaking out.

Kevin and Holly Carr say Hannah Grace Dowdie was placed in their care when she was just 7 months old. The Carrs tell KARK they had intentions to adopt, but add when they were given a new case worker in February they began having problems.

The Carrs said in November DHS made a decision to place Hannah back with her biological father, 28 year old Michael Palmer.

Palmer and Dowdie were both found dead inside a burning truck this weekend.
DHS said it can not confirm the child had previously been in foster care.

The Carrs said they are in no way blaming Palmer. They said they had expressed concerns to DHS about the placement, but could not elaborate on what those concerns were about. Read more atarkansasmatters.com.
