Police searching for missing Lewiston toddler

Story Updated: Oct 8, 2009 at 11:08 AM MDT

LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — Lewiston police say they're searching for a missing toddler after his father picked him up from a daycare without permission and failed to return the 2-year-old to his mother on time.

Police say an arrest warrant for suspicion of felony custodial interference has been issued for 39-year-old Charles Remacle, who is accused of taking Colin Matthew Remacle from a Lewiston day care on Oct. 1, the Lewiston Tribune reported.

Cathy Gropp, the boy's mother, said she repeatedly tried to contact her ex-husband and called police Monday when he failed to return the child by noon Sunday as expected.

Lewiston Police Capt. Tom Greene said officers are concerned because Remacle is bipolar and likely not taking any medicine. Greene said a search of his home earlier this week showed no sign he intended to leave the area.

Missing boy found; father arrested

Updated: Oct 8, 2009 07:13 PM EDT

PENDLETON, Ore. -- The search for a missing toddler is over, and his father is now behind bars in Oregon.

Umatilla Tribal Police confirm 49-year old Charles Remacle was arrested and booked in the Umatilla County Jail. He was arrested at the Wild Horse Casino in Pendleton this afternoon. Police say he took his son, 2-year old Colin Matthew Remacle from Lewiston, Idaho earlier this week, violating child custody laws.

Police say the child was with him at the time of the arrest. The boy will be in Oregon State custody until his mother arrives. Remacle suffers from bi-polarity and he is on probation for a domestic violence conviction.

He will be extradited back to Idaho. He faces charges for resisting arrest and will be charged through the state of Oregon.
